India tutoring
Why India is the deepest market for this work
India hosts a very large number of IB World Schools and an even larger number of Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel schools, concentrated in the metros but spreading steadily into tier-two cities as international-curriculum demand follows corporate relocation. What has not kept pace is the supply of tutors who genuinely know those curricula.
That mismatch is the opportunity. Most private tutors in India are trained on CBSE and ICSE, and the habits transfer badly: an IB Diploma internal assessment is not a CBSE project, and an IGCSE mark scheme rewards a kind of precision that board-exam coaching does not teach. A tutor who understands criterion-referenced marking or an Extended tier paper is scarce in almost every Indian city, including the big ones.
The result is that experienced international-curriculum tutors in India set their own rates and are rarely short of work, while generalist tutors compete on price. Which of those you are is mostly a function of knowing the assessment model, and that is learnable.

You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged; families see it before booking the demo. Rates vary more by city, curriculum and level than by anything else — Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru sit at the top, Diploma Higher Level pays more than IGCSE, and the January-to-April window before the May session is when rates peak.
What we take depends only on mode. Home tuition is split 50-50 for the first month with each new student, then 100% yours for as long as you teach them. Online is a flat 70/30 in your favour, every month, with no reduced first month.
We collect the fees from the family in rupees and pay you by bank transfer or UPI on the 1st of the following month, with an itemised statement. You never invoice a family and you never chase a late payment — that is specifically what the platform does.

Eligibility
What we look for in an IB or IGCSE tutor
Every application is read by a person. In India the thing that most often separates an accepted application from a rejected one is not the degree — it is whether you can show you understand international-curriculum assessment rather than board-exam coaching.
Subject command at the level you teach
A degree or teaching qualification in the subject, or a track record with IB or IGCSE students. You should be comfortable a level above what you teach.
Understanding of international-curriculum assessment
This is the real bar. MYP criteria and task-specific clarifications, DP internal assessment and grade boundaries, or your IGCSE board's papers and mark schemes — not the CBSE or ICSE equivalents.
Government photo ID for verification
Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID, reviewed before your profile goes live. This is an identity check, not a police check, and your profile states that.
An Indian bank account or UPI ID
Payouts go by bank transfer or UPI to an account in your own name. Keep the details current so a payout is never delayed.
Experience in an IB or Cambridge school in IndiaHelps, not required
Strongly weighted and the clearest thing a parent looks for, but we accept excellent CBSE, ICSE and university-background specialists who have learned the international assessment model.
Your own transportHelps, not required
Only relevant if you take home students. It widens your viable areas considerably in Indian metro traffic and makes weekday evening slots in outer areas workable.
How to start
From application to your first paid class
The application takes about twenty minutes. If you take home students, the travel-zone step matters most — in an Indian metro it determines whether a slot is sustainable or not.
1
Send your profile
List your subjects and levels, your curricula, your mode, and if you want home students, the specific areas or sectors of your city you can reach. Add your availability and your fee.
2
Upload your ID and credentials
A government photo ID plus your degree, teaching qualification or examiner evidence. Our academic team reviews all of it before your profile goes live.
3
Academic review
We check subject depth and international-curriculum knowledge against what you claimed. If you are stronger on IGCSE than on Diploma HL we will list you that way rather than reject the application.
4
Your verified profile goes live
Showing your city, areas, subjects, levels, mode, availability and fee, with the verification badge from the ID check.
5
We send you matched students
Home matching puts tutors in the area first, then those who travel there. Online matching is nationwide. You see the area, subject, level and timing before accepting and can decline.
6
Free demo, then you start
The first class is a free demo — at the home with a parent present, or over video. Your fee is already visible to the family. Your first payout lands on the 1st of the following month.

Where the demand actually is, city by city
International-curriculum demand in India is concentrated but not evenly. Delhi NCR — and within it Gurgaon and Noida especially — has the densest cluster of IB and Cambridge schools in the country, driven by corporate relocation and a large expatriate and returnee population. Mumbai is the next deepest market, with established IB schools across the western suburbs and South Mumbai.
Bengaluru's demand is heavily shaped by the technology sector: a large population of families who have lived abroad, expect an international curriculum, and are comfortable with online tutoring. Hyderabad has grown quickly for the same reason. Pune has a substantial and long-standing international school population, and Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad all have real but smaller clusters.
The genuinely interesting shift is in tier-two cities. Cambridge schools in particular have spread into places like Indore, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Kochi, Chandigarh and Lucknow, usually with one or two schools and very few local tutors who know the curriculum. If you live in one of those cities, you may be one of a handful of qualified options locally — and online lets you serve the rest of the country from there regardless.

What to expect
The Indian academic year, and when you will be busy
Most Indian international schools run an April-to-March academic year, while IB Diploma candidates in India typically sit the May examination session, which is set by the IB rather than the school calendar. That combination produces a particular rhythm worth planning around.
The year opens in April and May with new students settling into a curriculum, and that is when longer engagements start. Demand builds through the second half of the calendar year as mid-year assessments arrive and Diploma Year 1 students realise what internal assessment involves. The hard peak is January to April, in the run-up to the May session and the IGCSE May/June series, and that is when rates are highest and good HL tutors have no free slots.
The quiet stretch is late May through July, after the exams and before the new cohort's work begins in earnest. That window is filled by two things: IGCSE students bridging up into the Diploma or A-levels, who want a head start over the summer, and retake candidates after results in July.
Monsoon is worth a mention if you take home students, because it is a practical reality rather than a footnote. June to September in much of the country makes evening journeys unreliable, and tutors who have not planned for it lose students to cancellations. Many of our home tutors move some or all of their slots online for those months, which the per-mode split handles without any renegotiation.

Teaching detail
Coming from a CBSE or ICSE background
A large share of applications we receive in India come from strong teachers whose entire experience is CBSE or ICSE. We accept many of them, and the ones who do well all did the same thing: they learned the assessment model before their first demo class rather than after it.
The subject knowledge usually transfers without difficulty — a good CBSE physics teacher knows physics. What does not transfer is the shape of the assessment. CBSE and ICSE reward content recall and a worked answer in a familiar format. IGCSE mark schemes award marks against specific command words and expect precision about them. MYP does not produce a percentage at all; it produces four criterion grades against task-specific clarifications the school's own teacher has written. The IB Diploma adds internal assessment coursework, marked by the school and moderated externally, plus Higher and Standard Level versions of every subject.
The most common failure in a first demo class is a tutor teaching content confidently while the student quietly realises the tutor does not know what the paper will ask them to do. Reading one past paper and its mark scheme in your subject, end to end, prevents nearly all of it.
Start with IGCSE rather than Diploma Higher Level if you are making this transition. IGCSE is closer to what you already teach, the demand is larger and steadier, and a term of good IGCSE results on the platform is the fastest route to being listed for Diploma work.
Subject knowledge transfers; assessment habits mostly do not
Read one full past paper and its mark scheme in your subject before any demo
IGCSE is the easier entry point than DP Higher Level
Learn your subject's command words — IGCSE marks hang on them
What to expect
Teaching online across India from wherever you live
Online is how most Indian tutors on the platform build the bulk of their timetable, and it removes the city constraint completely. A Maths AA HL specialist in Pune can hold students in Gurgaon, Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the same evening, which no home-tuition timetable can match at any rate.
Because the whole country shares one time zone, matching is simpler here than it is internationally: the after-school window is roughly 4pm to 9pm everywhere, plus weekend mornings. If you have availability in that band you are matchable nationwide. Tutors who can also teach in the later evening pick up Gulf and UK families on top of Indian ones.
The practical requirements are the usual ones, with one Indian-specific note: a backup connection genuinely matters. A mobile hotspot on a second network costs little and saves the class that would otherwise be cancelled during a power or broadband outage. Cancelled classes are not billed to the family and so are not paid, so the backup pays for itself quickly.
One national time zone makes the 4–9pm after-school band matchable anywhere
A second-network mobile hotspot prevents the outage that costs you a class
A graphics tablet is close to essential for maths and science
Late-evening availability adds Gulf and UK families to your Indian ones
Tutor policy
The terms you are agreeing to
Summaries of our tutor policy clauses, including the ones specific to being paid in India.
Home tuition: 50-50 for month one, then 100% yours
Each new home student's first month fee is split evenly as our one-time fee for the match. From month two we take nothing for as long as you keep teaching them. Per student, so each new student has their own first month.
A flat 70/30 in your favour every month, with no reduced first month. The platform fee covers matching, demo scheduling, fee collection, chasing late payment and replacing a student who stops.
Fees for a calendar month's classes are paid on the 1st of the next month to the account you give us, with a statement listing every student, class, fee and split. If the 1st is a Sunday or bank holiday it goes the next working day.
IB Gram invoices the family and chases late payment. If a family pays late, the amount is added to your next payout once received. You are never asked to collect cash or ask a family for money.
Tutors are independent professionals, not employees. Income tax on your earnings is your responsibility, your monthly statements are your record for filing, and where we are legally required to deduct tax at source we deduct it and show it on the statement.
Your phone number, CV, ID and bank details are used only to verify you, match you and pay you, as set out in our privacy policy and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We never sell your data.
Teach home students in a common area with an adult in the house, never alone with a minor behind a closed door. Online, camera on and no recording without parental consent. Communication goes through a parent or a chat including them.
Do not move a student we introduced to a private arrangement or take fees directly from the family. Home tuition is already 100% yours from month two, so there is nothing to gain; doing it leads to removal.
Most Indian private tutors are CBSE or ICSE trained. Knowing how the IB and Cambridge actually assess puts you in a much smaller pool, in every city including the metros.
Your city stops being a ceiling
One national time zone means an online tutor anywhere in India is matchable with families everywhere in India, in the same 4–9pm after-school band.
Home tuition becomes 100% yours
After the first month we take nothing. Over a two-year engagement that is roughly 98% of everything the family pays — unusual in the Indian tuition market.
You never collect cash or chase a parent
We invoice the family and follow up on late payment. Payouts arrive by bank transfer or UPI with an itemised statement, so your records are ready for filing.
Monsoon does not have to cost you students
The split is applied per class by mode, so moving a home student online for the monsoon months needs no renegotiation and no loss of the engagement.
Tier-two cities are wide open
Cambridge schools have spread well beyond the metros, usually with very few local tutors who know the curriculum. Being one of a handful locally is a real advantage.
Tutor questions
Questions from applying tutors
Which Indian cities have the most IB and IGCSE tutoring demand?
Delhi NCR is deepest, with Gurgaon and Noida the densest sub-markets in the country, followed by Mumbai and Bengaluru. Hyderabad and Pune are substantial and growing fast. Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad have real but smaller clusters, and Cambridge schools have spread into many tier-two cities where local tutor supply is very thin.
I teach CBSE or ICSE. Can I tutor IB and IGCSE students?
Often yes, and we accept many such applications. Your subject knowledge transfers; your assessment habits largely do not. IGCSE mark schemes hang on command words, MYP produces criterion grades rather than percentages, and the Diploma adds internal assessment and two levels per subject. Read a full past paper and mark scheme in your subject before any demo class.
How much do IB and IGCSE tutors earn in India?
You set your own fee, so it depends on your rate, city, curriculum and level. Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru pay most, Diploma Higher Level more than IGCSE, and rates peak January to April. Our share is fixed by mode: home tuition 50-50 in month one then 100% yours, online a flat 70% yours.
Can I teach students in other Indian cities from my own?
Yes, online, and most of our Indian tutors build the bulk of their timetable that way. India shares one time zone, so if you are available in the 4pm to 9pm after-school band you are matchable nationwide. A Pune-based tutor can hold Gurgaon, Bengaluru and Hyderabad students in one evening.
When exactly do I get paid, and how?
On the 1st of the month after the classes were taught, by bank transfer or UPI to an account in your own name. September's fees are deposited on 1 October. If the 1st falls on a Sunday or bank holiday the transfer goes out the next working day, with an itemised statement per student.
Do I have to collect fees from families?
No, and you should not. IB Gram invoices the family, collects the fee and chases late payment. If a family pays late the amount is added to your next payout once we receive it. You are never asked to handle cash or to ask a parent for money.
What about income tax?
You are an independent professional, not an employee, so income tax on your earnings is your responsibility. Your monthly statements give you a clean record for filing, and where we are legally required to deduct tax at source we deduct it and show it on the statement.
How does the monsoon affect home tuition?
Realistically, it makes evening journeys unreliable from June to September in much of the country, and tutors who do not plan for it lose students to cancellations. Many of our home tutors move some slots online for those months. The split is applied per class by mode, so that needs no renegotiation.
Which ID do you accept for verification?
Any government photo ID — Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID. We review it before your profile goes live. It is an identity check only, not a police or criminal-records check, and your profile says that rather than implying more.
Is there demand in tier-two cities?
Yes, and it is the least competitive part of the market. Cambridge schools in particular have spread into cities like Indore, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Kochi, Chandigarh and Lucknow, usually with one or two schools and very few local tutors who know the curriculum. Online also lets you serve the whole country from there.
When is the busiest time of year?
January to April, in the run-up to the IB May session and the IGCSE May/June series. That is when rates are highest and capable Higher Level tutors have no free slots. The quiet stretch is late May to July, filled by retake candidates and students bridging from IGCSE into the Diploma.
Is there a fee to join?
No. No joining fee, no subscription, no charge to appear in matches and no charge to receive a student request. We earn only from the commission split on fees for classes that actually took place.
List what you teach and whether you want home students in your own areas, online students across India, or both. Applying takes about twenty minutes and a person reads every application.
