IB DP English A Language and Literature online tutor — Gurgaon
Online teaching for Gurgaon Diploma students: the individual oral, Paper 1 unseen analysis, and the HL essay that falls due far earlier than anyone expects.
Role Overview
English A is the subject where a bright student plateaus at a 5 and cannot work out why. Almost always the cause is that they are summarising rather than analysing, and nobody has shown them the difference on their own writing. That is what this role fixes, line by line, on the student's own drafts.
Job Description
The individual oral works from a global issue and two extracts and has to be rehearsed properly rather than performed from a script, which examiners spot immediately.
Paper 1 is unseen text analysis under time, and the highest-value skill is reading an unfamiliar text type quickly and finding something worth saying about how it is built.
HL students carry the 1,500-word HL essay as well, which needs a line of argument agreed early rather than a topic chosen late.
All teaching on this role is online, from your own device and connection. Families expect a shared whiteboard, screen share and written working they can keep afterwards, not a camera pointed at a notebook.
Online classes pay you 70% of the fee every month, with no first-month split and no joining fee. You set the fee, we publish it unchanged, and payouts land on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Mark drafts on the student's own text with specific, criterion-referenced comments.
- Rehearse the individual oral with real questioning and recorded timings.
- Set unseen Paper 1 texts under timed conditions every fortnight once DP2 begins.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Teach from a quiet space with a stable connection, and send written working after each session.
Requirements
- The current Language and Literature course, including the learner portfolio and the global issues framework.
- The ability to mark a student's own writing closely and show the gap between summary and analysis.
- Experience preparing individual orals to the assessment criteria rather than to a memorised script.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- A quiet room, a connection that holds a video call, and a device that handles screen share and a writing tablet.
Nice To Have
- English A examining experience, or supervision of Category 1 or 3 Extended Essays.
- Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
- Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.
Benefits
- You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged, so there is no negotiation after you have taught.
- Students are matched to you by programme, subject and level before you accept.
- No joining fee, no subscription and no exclusivity - teach elsewhere as well.
- Monthly payouts on the 1st with an itemised statement.
- Teach from anywhere, in the hours you have told us you are available.
