Tutoring

IB DP Biology HL tutor — Sectors 43 and 52, Gurgaon

Biology at Higher and Standard Level around Sectors 43 and 52, taught in person or online, including the statistics and IA work Biology students are least prepared for.

Sectors 43 and 52, Gurgaon (home, hybrid or online) Freelance, part time or full time IB DP Biology (HL and SL)

Role Overview

Biology attracts students who expect to memorise, then meets them with a data-based Paper 2, a statistics requirement in the IA, and a syllabus too large to learn late. The job is to move them onto understanding and to start the IA while there is still time to collect data twice.

Job Description

Content volume is the real enemy, so the teaching has to build recall structures such as diagrams, pathways and comparison tables rather than re-explaining topics once each.

The IA needs a biological system that can actually be sampled in Gurgaon, enough repeats to analyse, and a statistical test the student can justify. Most first drafts fail on the second of those.

Data-based questions in Paper 2 are where HL students lose the most, because they are asked to interpret an unfamiliar experiment rather than recall a topic.

You decide per student whether you teach at their home, online, or a mix of the two. Most engagements on this role start in person and move revision sessions online. In-person requests only come from Sectors 43, 44, 45, 51 and 52, Sushant Lok Phase 1 and the Huda City Centre side of Sector 29.

In-person students follow the home tuition split: the first month is 50-50, then 100% is yours for as long as the engagement lasts. Online sessions pay you 70% of the fee with no first-month split. Both are paid out on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.

Responsibilities

  • Start IA planning in DP1 so there is time for a second round of data collection.
  • Build recall tools with the student rather than for them.
  • Set data-based questions from unfamiliar experiments every fortnight.
  • Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
  • Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
  • Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
  • Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.

Requirements

  • The full HL Biology course plus one option, taught to exam standard.
  • Statistics for the IA: standard deviation, t-test, chi-squared, and the judgement of which applies.
  • Experience with data-based question technique, not just content delivery.
  • A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
  • Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
  • Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
  • Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.

Nice To Have

  • Biology IA moderation or Extended Essay supervision experience.
  • Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
  • Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.

Benefits

  • You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged, so there is no negotiation after you have taught.
  • Students are matched to you by programme, subject and level before you accept.
  • No joining fee, no subscription and no exclusivity - teach elsewhere as well.
  • Monthly payouts on the 1st with an itemised statement.
  • You choose per student whether the engagement is in person, online or mixed.
