Role Overview
Chemistry HL rewards a student who can see a mechanism and penalises one who memorised reactions. Most students on this route arrive having memorised reactions. The work is rebuilding the structure underneath so that the unseen question in Paper 2 becomes answerable.
Job Description
Organic chemistry and the HL mechanisms account for the largest share of lost marks, followed by energetics and the calculation-heavy parts of Paper 1.
The Chemistry IA is where a grade is most easily recovered, because it is marked on method and evaluation rather than on being right, and most students treat it as a school lab report.
These are mainly DP1 and DP2 students at schools such as Pathways and Suncity World School, so sessions follow those schools' assessment calendars.
This is in-person teaching at the student's home. You list the areas you can genuinely reach and we only send you requests inside Nirvana Country, South City II, Sectors 50 and 51, and the Vipul Belmonte to Park Place stretch. Declining a location, a society or a timing costs you nothing and needs no explanation.
The first month's fee for each new student is split 50-50. That is our one-time charge for finding the family, arranging the demo and setting up the match. From the second month you keep 100% of the fee for as long as you teach that student, which works out at roughly 98% of a two-year engagement. Payouts land on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Teach mechanisms as reasoning about electron movement rather than as reactions to memorise.
- Review IA drafts against the criteria and say what is missing without writing it.
- Drill Paper 1 calculation under time, including the data booklet skills students neglect.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.
Requirements
- Full HL Chemistry including the organic mechanisms and at least one option.
- Confident mole, equilibrium and thermodynamics calculation at Paper 1 pace.
- A working grip on the Chemistry IA criteria, especially Evaluation, where most marks are left on the table.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.

- Chemistry Extended Essay supervision or examining experience.
- Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
- Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.
