Role Overview
0500 looks like a subject you cannot tutor and is in fact highly trainable. The reading questions have a structure, the summary question has a technique, and directed writing has a form that can be taught. Students lose marks to habits, not to a lack of talent.
Job Description
The summary question is pure technique, selecting points and compressing them into continuous prose, and it improves faster than anything else on the paper.
Directed writing has to hit an audience, a form and a purpose. Students write good essays that answer none of the three and cannot see why they lost marks.
Where Literature 0475 is taken alongside, the texts are set by the school, so teaching has to work from their editions and their essay titles.
This is in-person teaching at the student's home. You list the areas you can genuinely reach and we only send you requests inside Sectors 102 to 113, Sobha City, Puri Emerald Bay, Vatika Seven Elements and the Bajghera Road corridor. Declining a location, a society or a timing costs you nothing and needs no explanation.
The first month's fee for each new student is split 50-50. That is our one-time charge for finding the family, arranging the demo and setting up the match. From the second month you keep 100% of the fee for as long as you teach that student, which works out at roughly 98% of a two-year engagement. Payouts land on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Train the summary question deliberately until the technique is automatic.
- Mark directed writing against audience, form and purpose every single time.
- Keep a record of the student's recurring errors and revisit it monthly.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.
Requirements
- 0500 reading and writing papers to Cambridge standard, including summary question technique.
- Close marking of extended writing with specific, actionable comments.
- Literature essay structure where 0475 is taken alongside.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.
