Tutoring
IB and IGCSE Maths and Science home tutor — Kolkata
Mathematics and science at home across Kolkata for IGCSE and senior MYP students, covering both boards in a city where neither has many specialist tutors.
Role Overview
Kolkata has fewer international-board tutors than its cohort needs, so a single engagement here often spans two boards and three subjects. The role suits a generalist with genuine depth at Year 9 to 11 level rather than a single-subject specialist.
Job Description
A typical week might be IGCSE Extended mathematics for one student and MYP integrated science for another, so planning has to stay flexible.
The Ballygunge and Alipore cluster and the New Town and Rajarhat cluster are 45 minutes apart in traffic, which realistically means choosing one.
Several families here are also deciding whether to move the child to IGCSE for Years 10 and 11, and want an honest opinion rather than a sales pitch.
This is in-person teaching at the student's home. You list the areas you can genuinely reach and we only send you requests inside Ballygunge, Alipore, New Town, Salt Lake, Rajarhat and the EM Bypass corridor. Declining a location, a society or a timing costs you nothing and needs no explanation.
The first month's fee for each new student is split 50-50. That is our one-time charge for finding the family, arranging the demo and setting up the match. From the second month you keep 100% of the fee for as long as you teach that student, which works out at roughly 98% of a two-year engagement. Payouts land on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Keep separate, written plans per student rather than one shared scheme of work.
- Give families a straight answer on the MYP to IGCSE question when they ask.
- Hold evening slots reliably across the chosen cluster.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.
Requirements
- IGCSE Extended mathematics and at least two sciences, plus MYP criteria A to D.
- The breadth to carry different boards for different students in the same week.
- A chosen Kolkata cluster you can reach on time.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.
Nice To Have
- Experience with both Cambridge and IB assessment in the same school year.
- Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
- Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.
Benefits
- You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged, so there is no negotiation after you have taught.
- Students are matched to you by programme, subject and level before you accept.
- No joining fee, no subscription and no exclusivity - teach elsewhere as well.
- Monthly payouts on the 1st with an itemised statement.
- You define your travel zones and can change them whenever you like.
