Tutoring
IB DP Economics tutor — Sushant Lok and Golf Course Extension, Gurgaon
IB Economics taught at home, online or as a mix: diagram technique, the HL quantitative paper, and three commentaries that students almost always leave far too late.
Role Overview
Economics looks like the comfortable Group 3 choice and then turns on students in the Internal Assessment. Three commentaries, each 800 words, each needing a real news article and a diagram that earns its place. Families book this role in DP1 once the first commentary comes back at 7 out of 14.
Job Description
Diagram work is non-negotiable and takes much of the teaching time: drawn accurately, labelled fully, and explained in prose that refers to the diagram rather than describing it.
HL students additionally need Paper 3, the quantitative paper, which is mechanical and very learnable but almost never gets enough class time.
Commentary supervision runs across the whole engagement: article selection, the key-concept link, and the evaluation paragraph that separates a 10 from a 13.
You decide per student whether you teach at their home, online, or a mix of the two. Most engagements on this role start in person and move revision sessions online. In-person requests only come from Sushant Lok Phase 1, Sectors 65 to 70 and the Golf Course Extension Road corridor.
In-person students follow the home tuition split: the first month is 50-50, then 100% is yours for as long as the engagement lasts. Online sessions pay you 70% of the fee with no first-month split. Both are paid out on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Build a commentary schedule in the first month so all three are not written in the same fortnight.
- Teach the evaluation paragraph explicitly, because most students write description and expect evaluation marks.
- Cover Paper 3 calculation for HL students regardless of where the school timetable has reached.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.
Requirements
- The full Economics course across all four units, with real command of the HL quantitative content.
- Diagram accuracy to examiner standard, including the ones students habitually draw wrong.
- Experience marking IA commentaries against the current criteria and the key concepts.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.
Nice To Have
- Experience as an Economics IA moderator or Paper 3 examiner.
- Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
- Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.
Benefits
- You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged, so there is no negotiation after you have taught.
- Students are matched to you by programme, subject and level before you accept.
- No joining fee, no subscription and no exclusivity - teach elsewhere as well.
- Monthly payouts on the 1st with an itemised statement.
- You choose per student whether the engagement is in person, online or mixed.
