Role Overview
Kochi has a small but serious IB cohort, and almost no tutors who have taught the Diploma chemistry course specifically. Students arrive having been taught the Kerala or CBSE syllabus with IB labels attached, which does not survive contact with Paper 2.
Job Description
Organic mechanisms and energetics carry the most teaching time, followed by the calculation speed Paper 1 demands.
IA supervision should start early and be designed around apparatus the school will actually allow the student to use.
Hybrid suits the local geography, since Kakkanad and Panampilly Nagar are a long crossing at peak hour.
You decide per student whether you teach at their home, online, or a mix of the two. Most engagements on this role start in person and move revision sessions online. In-person requests only come from Kakkanad, Edappally, Panampilly Nagar, Kadavanthra, Vyttila and the Aluva corridor.
In-person students follow the home tuition split: the first month is 50-50, then 100% is yours for as long as the engagement lasts. Online sessions pay you 70% of the fee with no first-month split. Both are paid out on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Teach to the IB course and its command terms, not a relabelled national syllabus.
- Begin IA planning in DP1 and keep it to a written timeline.
- Drill mechanism reasoning rather than reaction memorisation.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.
Requirements
- Full HL Chemistry taught to the IB assessment model rather than a national syllabus.
- Chemistry IA supervision to the criteria, especially Evaluation.
- Confident Paper 1 calculation with the data booklet.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.
Nice To Have
- Experience teaching students moving from CBSE or state boards into the Diploma.
- Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
- Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.
