Tutoring
IB PYP home tutor — Palam Vihar and Sector 23, Gurgaon
Primary Years Programme support at home for Grades 1 to 5: reading fluency, number sense, and the inquiry work primary parents find hardest to help with.
Role Overview
Primary tuition is not a smaller version of secondary tuition. A six-year-old who has stopped enjoying reading needs a different kind of session entirely, and parents here are often unsure whether tuition at this age is even appropriate. Being honest about when it is not is part of the job.
Job Description
The bulk of the work is reading fluency and comprehension, place value and number sense, and written expression, which are the three things that compound if they are left.
PYP runs through units of inquiry rather than textbooks, so sessions connect to the school's current unit rather than following a separate curriculum.
Sessions are shorter here, typically 45 to 60 minutes, and three short sessions a week beat one long one at this age.
This is in-person teaching at the student's home. You list the areas you can genuinely reach and we only send you requests inside Palam Vihar, Sectors 21, 22 and 23, Dwarka Expressway sectors 109 to 113 and the Bijwasan border. Declining a location, a society or a timing costs you nothing and needs no explanation.
The first month's fee for each new student is split 50-50. That is our one-time charge for finding the family, arranging the demo and setting up the match. From the second month you keep 100% of the fee for as long as you teach that student, which works out at roughly 98% of a two-year engagement. Payouts land on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.
Responsibilities
- Keep sessions to 45 to 60 minutes and build them around the school's current unit of inquiry.
- Report progress in plain language, with what the parent can do between sessions.
- Say so if a child does not need tuition, or needs a specialist assessment instead.
- Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
- Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
- Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
- Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.
Requirements
- Experience teaching Grades 1 to 5, with genuine primary pedagogy rather than scaled-down secondary teaching.
- Reading intervention technique: phonics where it is still needed, fluency and comprehension strategies after that.
- Patience with parents who want faster progress than a seven-year-old can give.
- A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
- Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
- Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
- Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.
Nice To Have
- A primary teaching qualification, or experience with dyslexia-aware reading intervention.
- Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
- Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.
Benefits
- You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged, so there is no negotiation after you have taught.
- Students are matched to you by programme, subject and level before you accept.
- No joining fee, no subscription and no exclusivity - teach elsewhere as well.
- Monthly payouts on the 1st with an itemised statement.
- You define your travel zones and can change them whenever you like.
