IB MYP Individuals and Societies home tutor — Sector 57, Gurgaon

MYP humanities at home around the Sector 57 school belt: history, geography and economics taught as inquiry, with the research and critical thinking criteria taken seriously.

Sector 57, Gurgaon (home tuition) Freelance, part time or full time IB MYP Individuals and Societies, Years 3 to 5

Role Overview

Individuals and Societies asks MYP students to investigate, evaluate sources and write an argued piece, and most of them simply report what they found. Criterion B for investigating and Criterion D for thinking critically are the two that move, and both are teachable.

Job Description

Students here work in units that may cover history, geography or economics depending on the school's planner, so breadth across the three matters more than depth in one.

Source evaluation is the recurring weakness: origin, purpose, value and limitation recited as a formula rather than used as an argument.

Year 5 students heading for DP History or Geography need the essay structure started now, because the Diploma will assume it.

This is in-person teaching at the student's home. You list the areas you can genuinely reach and we only send you requests inside Sectors 54 to 57, Sushant Lok Phases 2 and 3 and Rosewood City. Declining a location, a society or a timing costs you nothing and needs no explanation.

The first month's fee for each new student is split 50-50. That is our one-time charge for finding the family, arranging the demo and setting up the match. From the second month you keep 100% of the fee for as long as you teach that student, which works out at roughly 98% of a two-year engagement. Payouts land on the 1st of each month with an itemised statement.

Responsibilities

  • Teach source evaluation as argument, not as a four-letter acronym.
  • Build the investigation plan with the student before the research starts.
  • Point Year 5 work towards DP essay structure where that is the student's route.
  • Plan each session around the student's current school unit rather than a syllabus order of your own.
  • Set and publish your own fee, and decline any student who is not a fit.
  • Report progress to the family at the review points agreed when the engagement starts.
  • Keep agreed session times and give at least 24 hours' notice through IB Gram if a session has to move.

Requirements

  • MYP Individuals and Societies criteria A to D, with the command terms and the research process.
  • Enough history, geography and economics to teach whichever unit the school is on.
  • Source evaluation and argued writing at Years 3 to 5 level.
  • A degree in the subject or a closely related one. Teaching experience counts, but subject knowledge is checked first.
  • Verified government ID and at least one credential we can confirm with the issuing institution.
  • Two references we can contact, at least one from a school, college or family you have taught.
  • Reliable travel to the listed areas at the times you have offered, in real traffic.

Nice To Have

  • Experience teaching MYP interdisciplinary units or the Personal Project.
  • Experience with the specific school's internal assessment calendar.
  • Availability for a longer weekend slot in the eight weeks before mocks.

Benefits

  • You set your own fee and we publish it unchanged, so there is no negotiation after you have taught.
  • Students are matched to you by programme, subject and level before you accept.
  • No joining fee, no subscription and no exclusivity - teach elsewhere as well.
  • Monthly payouts on the 1st with an itemised statement.
  • You define your travel zones and can change them whenever you like.
