IB Results Day in the UAE: How to Read the Result and What to Do Next
What actually arrives on IB results day, how 45 points are built, when an enquiry upon results is worth paying for, and the honest arithmetic of a November retake for UAE families.

In this guide · 14 sections
IB results day is the one day in the IB Diploma Programme that nobody rehearses, and in the UAE it arrives while half the family is in another country. Two years of coursework, mocks, internal assessments and a final exam series resolve into a number between 1 and 45, delivered to a phone screen, often while the family is somewhere other than home. Most of what goes wrong in the following week is not caused by the number. It is caused by families acting in the first ninety minutes on information they have not finished reading.
This guide is for parents and students in the UAE going through an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme results release — in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah or any of the northern emirates. It sets out what actually arrives on the day, how the total is assembled, how to read the subject breakdown instead of the headline, when an enquiry upon results is worth paying for, what a missed university offer really means here, and how retaking in the November session works as arithmetic rather than as a consolation prize.
One thing this guide deliberately does not do: it does not print your results date. That is not an oversight, and the reason matters enough to explain before anything else.
When Do IB Results Come Out for Students in the UAE?
The IB publishes one results release date and time per examination session, and it is the same worldwide — results day is not localised to the UAE. What that date is for your cohort must come from your school's IB Diploma Programme coordinator or from the IB's own assessment pages at ibo.org. We are not going to publish an IB date here, because the only way to state one responsibly is to have read it on the IB's own site for the current session, and a date reprinted on a blog goes stale silently while the page carries on looking authoritative.
That is not pedantry. A tutoring company in the UAE published a February–March exam window for UAE candidates, which is a series the board in question offers to India only, and parents acted on it. A wrong date is worse than no date, because a parent who has no date goes and finds the right one. So treat any results date you see on a commercial page — including ours — as a prompt to check, never as the answer.
The shape of the session, as opposed to the date, is stable and worth knowing. The IB runs a May examination session and a November examination session. UAE schools overwhelmingly sit the May session, because the UAE academic year ends in the summer, so the typical UAE candidate gets results in the summer and starts university the following autumn. The November session exists, is sat by schools on a southern-hemisphere calendar, and — this is the part UAE families care about — is the route for a candidate retaking a subject after a May result.
What Actually Arrives on Results Day?
Not a certificate, and not a single number. What is released is a results statement: a grade for each of your six subjects on a 1 to 7 scale, the outcome for the core components, the total points, and whether the diploma has been awarded. The subject grades are the substance. The total is a summary of them.
Several things do not arrive on the day, and families waste the morning looking for them. Individual paper marks are not in the release. Component-level marks are not either. Grade boundaries are not published to candidates in the results statement. The formal certificate follows later through the school. And the reason for a grade — the thing every family actually wants — is not available at all unless you pay for a specific service, which is covered further down.
Everything in the right-hand column is something a family can lose an hour to on the worst possible morning. Decide in advance that the left column is all you are going to get, and the first hour becomes usable.
- subject grades, each on the 1 to 7 scale
- 6
- the maximum points available from the core, added to the subject total
- 3
- the maximum total points for the diploma
- 45
- individual paper marks disclosed in the results statement

How Is a Total Out of 45 Actually Assembled?
Six subjects contribute a maximum of 7 points each, which is 42. The core — Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay — contributes up to 3 more. That is the whole arithmetic, and seeing it laid out changes how families read a disappointing total.
The proportions matter because of where attention goes during the two years. The core is worth up to 3 points out of 45, which is under 7% of the total, and yet it reliably consumes a disproportionate share of a student's stress in the final year. Meanwhile a single subject grade is worth up to 7 points, more than double the entire core. A student who drops a grade in two subjects has lost more than the core could ever have given them.
Proportions are arithmetic from the 45-point structure, not a statistic. Core points are awarded on a published matrix combining the two components.
The other reason to understand the assembly is that it tells you which conversations are worth having on results day. The total is a consequence. If it is lower than expected, exactly one of three things happened: a subject grade came in below the prediction, the core produced fewer points than assumed, or the expectation was never realistic. Those three have completely different responses, and the subject breakdown tells you which one you are looking at within about two minutes.
The IB also publishes the conditions under which a diploma is awarded, including minimum requirements and a set of failing conditions that can withhold a diploma even where the total looks adequate. Those conditions change in detail over time and are set out in the current Diploma Programme assessment procedures. Read them from your coordinator's copy of the current document rather than from any blog, including this one — a diploma-not-awarded outcome with a respectable total is almost always one of these conditions, and it is the single most misread result there is.
What Should You Do in the First Hour?
Read the subject grades before the total, and say nothing final to anyone for an hour. That is the whole recommendation, and it is harder than it sounds because the total is the number the portal shows first and the number the relatives will ask for.
The first hour has three jobs and none of them is a decision.
- 1Verify the result is complete. Check that every subject you sat has a grade against it, that the core outcome is present, and that nothing says pending. Incomplete results happen for administrative reasons and they resolve, but a family that reads a gap as a failure has an unnecessarily terrible morning.
- 2Compare each subject against its prediction, individually. Write the six predicted grades and the six actual grades side by side. Not the totals. The pattern across the six is the diagnosis.
- 3Find the enquiry upon results deadline. Not because you have decided to use it, but because it is short and it is the only option on the list that expires. Everything else — a university conversation, a retake, a gap year — is still available next week. This one is not.
What not to do in the first hour: do not contact a university admissions office, do not accept or decline an insurance offer, do not post anything, and do not pay for a remark. Every one of those is a decision that benefits from the subject breakdown you have not finished reading.
The order matters more than the speed. Each of the three jobs is reading, and none of them is a decision.
Families who do only the fourth row have usually had a better week than families who did everything else. If the plan after today turns out to be a resit, our IB retake tutoring in Dubai and IGCSE resit tutoring in Dubai pages set out what the work looks like once the subject is named.
How Do You Read the Subject Breakdown Rather Than the Total?
Lay the six predicted grades against the six actual grades and look at the shape, because the shape names the cause. There are four patterns and they are genuinely distinguishable.
| Pattern across the six subjects | What it usually indicates | The sensible first response |
|---|---|---|
| One subject down by one grade, five on target | Normal variance at a boundary, or one weak paper | Check whether that one subject blocks a university condition before anything else |
| One subject down by two or more grades, rest on target | A single component went badly, or a specific topic was not covered | This is the strongest candidate for an enquiry upon results |
| Three or more subjects down by one grade each | The prediction set was optimistic across the board | A remark will not fix this; look at retake or alternative-offer routes |
| Higher Level subjects down, Standard Level on target | Depth was the gap, not effort | Relevant to retake subject choice and to any Higher Level requirement in an offer |
| Diploma not awarded despite an adequate total | Almost always a specific failing condition, not the total | Ask the coordinator which condition, immediately — it determines every option |
The reason to do this on paper rather than in your head is that the total hides the diagnosis. Two students with the same total of 32 can be in entirely different situations: one who went 7, 6, 6, 5, 4, 2 with a Higher Level subject at 2 may have an unmet offer condition and a clear retake target, while one who went 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 with the same total has no single weak point and nothing a remark could plausibly change. Same number, opposite strategies.
The last row is the point of the whole section. A total of 32 is not a diagnosis, it is a summary of six diagnoses, and the first family above has a one-subject project while the second has a strategy problem. Where the weak subject is maths, our Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level and Applications and Interpretation Higher Level pages are the two different projects that follow, and our guide to IB Maths AA against AI for UAE students explains why a retake is sometimes the moment to change course.
If a particular subject is the problem, that is also where tutoring becomes a specific rather than a general purchase. A student who needs Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches lifted by two grades for a November retake is buying something very different from a student who needs a general confidence rebuild, and different again from one whose points were lost on the core rather than in a subject - which is where Theory of Knowledge support and Extended Essay support belong, and the subject pages — Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, Chemistry Higher Level, Economics Higher Level — exist because that difference is the whole job.
When Is an Enquiry Upon Results Worth Paying For?
When you have a specific, structural reason to believe a grade is wrong, and when a one-grade change would actually alter an outcome. Not when the result is merely disappointing.
An enquiry upon results is the IB's formal route for re-examining a candidate's result after release. It is requested through your school, not by the family directly, it carries a fee set by the IB and charged through the school, and it operates to a deadline that is short by design. Ask your coordinator for the current fee schedule, the available categories of enquiry, and the exact deadline for your session — those are the three facts you need, all three are held by the school, and none of them should be taken from a blog.
The decision itself is more tractable than families expect, because it reduces to two questions asked in order.
First: is there a structural reason? A grade one mark below a boundary is a reason.
The gap between a 6 and a 7 is often 6–10 raw marks across three papers — roughly two marks per paper.
Which is why the structural test is about position, not disappointment: a mark below a boundary is a mechanical argument, whereas three subjects each one grade down is a pattern no marking error distributes that evenly. If the gap is a predicted-grade problem rather than a marking one, our predicted grade improvement and Physics Higher Level pages are the two places that conversation usually lands. A subject where the student's own account of the exam diverges sharply from the result is a reason. A subject sat in unusual circumstances, with a documented issue in the room, is a reason. "We expected better" is not a reason, and neither is a pattern of three subjects each one grade down, because an administrative or marking error does not usually distribute itself evenly across three different papers in three different subjects.
Second: would one grade change anything? If the student is two grades short of an offer condition, a successful enquiry on one subject does not get them there. If they are one grade short on the specific subject a university named, it might get them everything. Work out the consequence before paying, because an enquiry that succeeds and changes nothing is the most expensive possible way to feel better.
Be clear-eyed about outcomes too. Enquiries can move a grade up, leave it unchanged, or — depending on the category of enquiry requested — move it down. Ask your coordinator which categories carry that risk for your session before requesting one. Any provider who tells you a remark is free of downside has not read the service descriptions.
What Does a Missed University Offer Actually Mean in the UAE?
Less than it feels like at 9am, and the reason is structural. UAE families typically hold a mix of offers across several admissions systems at once — UK universities through UCAS, North American universities on their own timelines, European and Australian institutions, and UAE-based universities and international branch campuses — and those systems do not share a deadline, a clearing mechanism or a tolerance for a missed condition.
That mix is an advantage on results day, and it is one that families in single-system countries do not have. A missed UK condition does not touch a North American offer at all. A UAE branch campus admissions office is reachable in your own working hours. And UAE institutions run intakes that do not all pivot on one summer morning.
The right-hand column is the structural advantage UAE families have and rarely use on the day. Holding offers across unconnected admissions systems means a missed UK condition is a UK problem, not a results problem, and our guide to UAE university admission with an IB diploma covers what the local route actually asks for.
| Offer type | Who to contact first | What is realistically negotiable |
|---|---|---|
| UK firm offer, one grade missed | The university's admissions office, directly and early | Universities can and do confirm places below condition where the cohort allows it |
| UK insurance offer | Confirm status before releasing anything | Do not decline an insurance place while a firm decision is unresolved |
| North American offer | The admissions officer named on your file | Different timelines entirely; a missed IB total is weighed against the whole application |
| UAE university or branch campus | Admissions in person or by phone, same day | Local intakes and your ability to attend in person both work in your favour |
| Nothing confirmed anywhere | Your school's university guidance lead | Late vacancies, a November retake, or a considered gap year are all live routes |
The practical sequence is to establish what is confirmed before you negotiate anything. Read every offer's status before making a single call, because families routinely release a perfectly good insurance place while trying to rescue a firm one.
Establish what is confirmed before you negotiate anything. The order is the protection, not the speed.
Step one is the one families skip, and it is the only step that is irreversible if done wrongly. If the sequence ends in a resit rather than an offer, our IB November session exam preparation page sets out what the autumn then has to contain. If you are working through this from scratch, our university admissions guidance for IB students page sets out how the route choices interact, and our guide to UAE university admission with an IB diploma covers the local institutions in more detail.
Where Does Ministry of Education Equivalency Fit After Results?
Equivalency is a separate process from your results and from any university offer, and it is run by the UAE Ministry of Education, not by the IB and not by us. It is the mechanism by which a foreign secondary certificate is recognised in the UAE, and it is typically what a student needs in order to use their qualification locally — for a UAE university, or for certain employment and licensing purposes.
Two things are worth stating precisely, because this is where published guidance gets garbled. First, the Ministry's requirements are curriculum-specific: for the British track, requirements published in July 2026 and reported by Gulf Today include five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among those five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One well-ranked competitor page states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five.
Second — and this is the important one for a Diploma Programme family — we will not publish an IB points threshold for equivalency, because we have not read one on the Ministry of Education's own site. The article that sets out the British and American track requirements states no IB points figure. Anyone publishing a confident IB equivalency number without a moe.gov.ae citation is guessing with your child's university application. Go to the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation authority and get the current requirement from them.
- accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects required, not six
- 5
- the minimum grade, or grade 3
- E
- of those five that may be Arabic or Islamic education
- 0
- accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level
- 1
Requirements published in July 2026 and reported by Gulf Today. No IB points threshold appears, because none was published; verify with the Ministry of Education before acting.
Note which number is missing. Every figure above is British-track, and the absence of an IB row is the honest answer to the question most Diploma families ask here. Our MoE equivalency guide for IGCSE students works through the five-subject rule in detail.
What you can usefully do on results day is start gathering documents, because the attestation chain takes longer than any part of the academic process. Our guide to the equivalency certificate for IB and IGCSE students sets out the document sequence. Note too that tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, and any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.
Is Retaking in the November Session Worth It?
It depends almost entirely on one number: how many grades you need to move, in how many subjects. One subject by one grade is a realistic project. Three subjects by two grades each, in the time a November session allows, usually is not — and a provider who tells you otherwise is selling hours rather than giving advice.
The November session is the IB's second examination session each year, and for a UAE candidate who sat in May it is the nearest retake opportunity. The honest arithmetic runs as follows. You have roughly a summer and the early part of the autumn term. The content is already taught, which is the good news. The bad news is that the student is no longer in a school structure for that subject: no timetabled lessons, no teacher setting deadlines, no cohort. What a retake actually requires is a self-directed exam-technique programme, and the failure mode is not knowledge. It is the absence of externally imposed structure in a gap between two phases of life.
| Your situation after the May result | Retake realism | What the plan has to contain |
|---|---|---|
| One subject, one grade short of a named offer condition | Strong | Targeted work on the weakest component, full past-paper cycles under timed conditions |
| One Higher Level subject, two grades short | Possible | A full re-teach of the weakest topics, not revision; weekly written feedback |
| Two subjects, one grade each | Demanding but real | Two separate plans with separate tutors if the subjects are unrelated |
| Three or more subjects | Unrealistic for one session | Reconsider the goal, not the timetable; a foundation route or a different offer may serve better |
| Diploma withheld on a failing condition | Depends entirely on the condition | Get the condition named by the coordinator first; it dictates what must be resat |
Entry for a retake goes through a school or an examination centre, and the entry deadline sits months before the exam window — which means the decision window on a retake closes long before the preparation does. That ordering trips families up every year. Our November session exam preparation and IB retake tutoring pages set out how the preparation is structured, and the IB exam timetable guide for the UAE explains the entry-deadline ordering in full.
A planning shape drawn from the table above, not a measurement, and certainly not a promise. No provider can guarantee a grade in any of these positions.
The curve falls away faster than families expect, and it falls on the number of grades rather than the amount of effort. A student aiming at 45 from a strong base is doing something different again, which is what our IB score 45 coaching and Grade 12 IB Diploma tutoring pages are built around.
What Makes IB Results Day in the UAE Harder for Families Specifically?
The family is usually not in the same place. UAE expatriate households travel in the summer, and a May-session results release lands squarely in that window: the student may be with grandparents in another country, one parent may be back at work in the Emirates, and the DP coordinator may be on leave in a third time zone. That is a logistics problem dressed up as an emotional one, and it is solvable in advance.
Three preparations remove most of the pain. Convert the release time into the time zone each family member will actually be in, and agree in writing who reads the result first. Confirm before term ends which member of school staff is reachable in the release week and how — because the enquiry upon results deadline does not pause for anybody's annual leave. And check whether the student can access the results portal from the country they will be in, with the credentials they will have on them, on a device that is not a borrowed laptop.
- Results morningRead the six subject grades before the total; verify nothing is pending
- Same dayEstablish what is confirmed across every offer you hold before negotiating anything
- Within 48 hoursDecide on an enquiry upon results only if a one-grade change would alter an outcome
- First weekContact admissions offices directly where a condition is missed; start equivalency documents
- Second weekIf a retake is the route, confirm the entry route and centre before planning the teaching
- Autumn termRetake preparation runs without a school structure, so the structure has to be built
How Is IGCSE Results Day a Different Shape?
Different board, different calendar, and much harder dates to get wrong — which makes IGCSE a useful illustration of why we are so cautious with the IB ones. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results have a documented, checkable history: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.
Those two lines tell you something structural. The gap between sitting a paper and holding a result is roughly ten to twelve weeks for a summer series, and the November series resolves in the January that follows. A Year 11 student finishing IGCSEs in the summer therefore has results in hand before the Diploma Programme begins, which is why IGCSE results in the UAE function mainly as a subject-selection decision rather than a university one.
- Pearson Edexcel International GCSE June 2026 results to centres
- 19 Aug 2026
- the same results to students
- 20 Aug 2026
- November 2025 results to students
- 22 Jan 2026
- from sitting a summer paper to holding the result
- 10-12 weeks
Dated Pearson Edexcel releases, which is why they appear here while no IB date does. Confirm your own against your centre.
Those four lines are the argument for the caution at the top of this page: Pearson's dates are checkable and printed, and the IB's are not ours to print. The same discipline runs through our IGCSE exam timetable guide for the UAE.
| Compare across | IB Diploma results | Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions sat by UAE candidates | May and November | May/June and November |
| What the result decides | University offers, equivalency, the diploma award | Sixth-form and Diploma Programme subject selection, Higher Level readiness |
| Dated example we can verify | None we publish — confirm with your DP coordinator and ibo.org | June 2026 to centres 19 August 2026, to students 20 August 2026 |
| Nearest resit route | The following November session | The November series, with results reaching students the following January |
| Who holds your exact date | Your school's DP coordinator | Your exam centre, against the live Pearson timetable |
The subject-selection consequence is the one worth acting on. An IGCSE grade pattern is the best available evidence for whether a student should take a subject at Higher Level, and it is far more reliable than enthusiasm. A student who got a 6 in IGCSE Mathematics and wants Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is making a decision that an honest tutor will push back on, and the right time for that conversation is August, not the following March.
No IB results month is lit here on purpose: that date comes from your Diploma Programme coordinator, not from this page.
Lay the lit months side by side and the planning consequence is obvious. A Year 11 IGCSE result lands in August, in time to shape Diploma subject choices; a Diploma result lands in the travel season and drives a university decision. Our mock exam preparation and IGCSE past-paper practice pages cover the two sides of that calendar, and families in the capital can see the same work on our Abu Dhabi November session exam preparation page.
How Does Tutoring Change After Results?
It becomes narrower, shorter and more measurable, and that is the point. Before results, tutoring is an open-ended improvement project against an unknown target. After results, you have a specific grade in a specific subject and a specific reason it fell short — which turns tutoring from a subscription into a job with a finish line.
That changes what good looks like. A post-results plan should name the component being targeted, not just the subject. It should run on timed past-paper cycles with written feedback, because the gap at this stage is almost never knowledge and almost always execution under exam conditions. It should have a stated number of weeks against the entry deadline, not an open-ended monthly commitment. And it should include an honest early checkpoint, with the tutor prepared to say by week four that the target is not reachable in the time available.
How we deliver this, plainly. For families anywhere in the UAE, IB Gram teaches online, one to one, over live video. We do not send tutors to homes in the UAE — in-home visiting tuition is an India-only service of ours. For post-results work, online is also simply the better fit: the student is likely to be travelling in the release window, the subject need is often narrow enough that the right teacher is not in your emirate, and a retake programme that survives a change of country is worth more than one that depends on a car journey. We make no claim of approval from the IB, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education, we do not guarantee grades, and we will tell you when a target is not reachable in the weeks left.
If you are at the start of this and want to see what structured preparation involves, our IB exam preparation and past-paper practice pages set out the method, and the Abu Dhabi retake tutoring page covers the same work for families in the capital.
Frequently Asked Questions About IB Results Day in the UAE
- Six subject grades, 7 points each42 points
- Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay3 points
Arithmetic from the 45-point structure. Core points are awarded on a published matrix combining the two components rather than added separately.
As a whole pie rather than two bars, the proportion lands properly: the core is under 7% of the diploma, and a single subject grade is worth more than twice everything the core can give. That is why the answers below keep returning to the six subject grades rather than to the total.
What time are IB results released for students in the UAE?
The IB publishes one results release time per examination session, in a reference time zone, and it applies worldwide — there is no separate UAE release. To get the exact moment in Gulf Standard Time for your cohort, ask your school's Diploma Programme coordinator or check the IB's own assessment pages at ibo.org. We deliberately do not print an IB date or time on this page, because a date reprinted on a commercial page goes stale without anyone noticing while the page continues to look authoritative. Convert the official time once, write it down, and agree who in the family reads it first.
What do IB results actually show on the day?
A results statement: a grade from 1 to 7 for each of your six subjects, the outcome of the core components, the total points out of 45, and whether the diploma has been awarded. It does not show individual paper marks, component marks or grade boundaries, and the formal certificate follows later through your school. This surprises families who expect to see where marks were lost. That information is only available through a formal enquiry upon results, requested through the school, and not from the results statement itself.
How are 45 IB points made up?
Six subjects contribute up to 7 points each, giving a maximum of 42, and the core — Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together — contributes up to 3 more, for a total of 45. Core points are awarded on a published matrix combining the two components rather than added separately. The proportion is worth internalising: the core is under 7% of the total while a single subject grade is worth up to 7 points. Confirm the current subject and core requirements with your Diploma Programme coordinator, since the detail of diploma award conditions is set out in the IB's current assessment procedures.
Can IB results be wrong, and can a grade be changed?
A result can be re-examined through an enquiry upon results, which is the IB's formal route and is requested through your school rather than by the family. It carries a fee set by the IB and charged through the school, and the deadline is short by design. Depending on the category of enquiry requested, a grade can go up, stay the same, or go down, so ask your coordinator which categories carry that risk for your session. Request one only when there is a structural reason to doubt a grade and a one-grade change would genuinely alter an outcome.
Should I ask for a remark if my child is one mark off a grade boundary?
That is the strongest case there is, provided the grade in question matters. Work through two questions in order: is there a structural reason to doubt the grade, and would a single grade change alter an actual outcome such as a named university condition? If the student is two grades short of the condition, a successful enquiry on one subject will not reach it, and an enquiry that succeeds while changing nothing is an expensive way to feel better. Get the current deadline, fee schedule and enquiry categories from your coordinator before deciding.
What should I do if my child missed a university offer condition?
Establish what is already confirmed across every offer you hold before you contact anyone, because families routinely release a sound insurance place while trying to rescue a firm one. Then contact the university's admissions office directly and early — universities can and do confirm places slightly below condition depending on the cohort. UAE families usually hold offers across several unconnected systems, so a missed UK condition does not touch a North American or UAE branch-campus offer at all. Your school's university guidance lead should be involved on the same day.
Is an IB retake in November realistic for a UAE student?
It depends on how many grades you need to move, in how many subjects. One subject by one grade is a realistic project. One Higher Level subject by two grades is possible with a full re-teach of the weakest topics rather than revision. Three or more subjects in a single session is not realistic, and the right response is to reconsider the goal rather than the timetable. The real obstacle is structural, not academic: the student has no timetabled lessons, no teacher setting deadlines and no cohort, so the plan has to supply the structure the school used to.
When do I have to decide about a November retake?
Earlier than you would expect, because the entry deadline sits months before the exam window. Entry goes through a school or an examination centre, and the decision window closes long before the preparation does — so the choice is often made in the weeks right after results, while the family is still processing them. Ask your coordinator or centre for the current entry deadline as soon as a retake is under discussion. Planning the teaching before confirming the entry route is the most common sequencing error in post-results planning.
Does an IB diploma need Ministry of Education equivalency in the UAE?
Equivalency is the Ministry of Education's process for recognising a foreign secondary certificate in the UAE, and it is typically needed to use the qualification locally, including for UAE universities. It is separate from your results and from any university offer, and it is run by the Ministry, not by the IB or by a tutoring provider. We will not publish an IB points threshold for equivalency because we have not read one on moe.gov.ae — the published guidance we could verify covers the British and American tracks and states no IB figure. Get the current requirement from the Ministry or your emirate's attestation authority.
How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE require for equivalency?
Requirements published in July 2026 and reported by Gulf Today state five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among those five, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. At least one well-ranked tutoring page states six subjects, which does not match the sourced requirement. Verify the current rule with the Ministry of Education before acting, since published requirements are revised.
When do IGCSE results come out compared with IB results?
They run on different calendars. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results have a checkable history: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026 — roughly ten to twelve weeks after a summer series, with the November series resolving the following January. IB Diploma results come from the May or November session and the exact date must come from your Diploma Programme coordinator. For most UAE families, IGCSE results are a subject-selection decision and IB results are a university one.
Will tutoring guarantee a better grade on a retake?
No, and nobody should tell you otherwise. What good post-results tutoring does is make the attempt measurable: it names the specific component being targeted rather than the subject, runs timed past-paper cycles with written feedback, states a number of weeks against the entry deadline, and includes an honest checkpoint at around week four where the tutor is willing to say the target is not reachable in the time left. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and holds no approval from the IB, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education. For UAE families we teach online, one to one, over live video.
The one-line version of IB results day, and what we will not do
The one-line version. Read the six subject grades before the total, find the enquiry upon results deadline within the first hour because it is the only thing that expires, establish what is confirmed before you negotiate anything, and treat a retake as arithmetic about grades and weeks rather than as a consolation.
What we will not do. We will not print an IB date we have not verified, publish an equivalency points figure the Ministry has not published, or suggest that tutoring is required for equivalency, university admission or school progression. For families in the UAE our teaching is online, one to one — IB tutoring and revision classes explain how that runs in practice.
Beyond the Diploma, our IGCSE tutoring pages cover the Year 11 side of the same August, when an IGCSE grade pattern is the best evidence anyone has about Higher Level readiness.
