IB University Admissions Guidance in Dubai

IB university admissions guidance in Dubai is mostly about reading documents correctly and acting while things can still change. A predicted grade is built from evidence the school already holds. An offer that names a Higher Level subject means that subject and not a points total. Equivalency is the Ministry's process, not a school's. This page sets all of it out, with the dates counted backwards. Sessions run online, one to one.

  • Predicted grades are built from evidence; ask what feeds them and when
  • An offer naming a Higher Level subject means that subject, literally
  • Equivalency is performed by the Ministry of Education, not by a tutor
  • No institution's requirement is reproduced here, because they change

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Three documents decide most of this

An IB candidate's university outcome is shaped by three documents, and most Dubai families have read none of them closely. The first is the predicted grade sheet the school produces, built from classwork, internal assessments and mock performance. The second is the offer itself, which is usually more specific than families remember and almost always more literal. The third is whatever the Ministry of Education publishes about recognising a foreign secondary certificate, if the student intends to study or work in the UAE.

Each has a window in which it can be influenced and a point after which it cannot. Predicted grades are finalised at a date the coordinator can tell you, and the evidence feeding them is produced in the first Diploma year and the first half of the second. An offer's conditions are fixed once accepted. Equivalency is a process with its own documentation requirements that nobody can shortcut. Acting inside those windows is almost the whole of what useful admissions guidance consists of.

The most common and most expensive error is reading an offer loosely. A conditional offer that names a points total and specific Higher Level grades means both, and a student who hits the total while missing the named Higher Level has not met it. Every year families optimise the total and lose the place, usually because they worked from memory rather than from the written wording. Print it, read it, and plan the final term around the binding condition rather than the comfortable one.

This page carries no university's requirements. Requirements differ between institutions, between campuses of one institution, between intakes and sometimes between routes inside a department, and a figure published on a tutoring site goes stale without anybody noticing. What is published here instead is the structure and the order, which does not change, plus the two sourced items that are stable: the published Ministry requirement on the British and American tracks, and the shape of the application calendar.

It is also worth stating plainly what IB Gram is and is not. We are a tutor-matching platform, so what we can affect is the grade in a named subject and the quality of a student's academic work. We do not act as an admissions consultancy, we do not write personal statements or application essays, and we cannot and do not promise a place anywhere. Tutoring is not a requirement for admission and nobody should suggest otherwise.

Sessions are delivered online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai, since that is an India-only service. In an admissions year that matters practically: a candidate juggling six subjects, the core and application deadlines can take a 20:00 session without anybody adding a drive, and the marked work accumulates in one file the student can show a school.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An admissions year does not start in the final term. These three stages are where the evidence behind an application is actually produced.

Pre-DPAges 15-16 · Year 11

Subject and level selection

The single most consequential admissions decision happens before any Diploma content is taught, when Higher Level subjects are chosen. Routes that require named Higher Level subjects are closed or opened here, usually without anybody mentioning admissions, and the choice is made on IGCSE or MYP evidence that maps imperfectly onto Higher Level demand.

Dubai schools run option processes on their own timetables, often before IGCSE results arrive. Ask the school which Higher Level combinations it can timetable, because a subject that is theoretically available and practically unschedulable closes a route just as effectively.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

First Diploma year

The year the evidence behind the predicted grade is produced: classwork, the first internal assessments, and the end-of-year internal examinations. It is also the last comfortable moment to change a level. A student who waits for the final year to engage with admissions has already generated most of the record a prediction will be built from.

Dubai schools run internal examinations towards the end of this year and those results frequently feed predictions directly. A marked paper in each offer-critical subject before those examinations is worth more than the same work afterwards.

DP2Ages 17-19 · Year 13

Final Diploma year

Applications, predicted grades, internal deadlines and written papers all land in one year. The useful discipline is to identify the binding condition in each offer and weight the final term's work towards it, rather than spreading effort evenly across six subjects out of anxiety.

The main UCAS deadline falls in January each year with the current date published on UCAS's own site, United States applications run through the winter, and UAE university applications and any equivalency work run on their own timetables. All of that collides with the internal deadline period.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Offers name subjects, so this grid is organised by which routes each subject typically appears in and where its marks are most recoverable late in the final year.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The subject named in more competitive offers than any other, particularly for engineering, mathematics, physics, computing and some economics routes. Late recoverable marks sit in written method and in the Higher Level third paper, which is short and routinely unpractised.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Accepted by many routes and not all, which is why the published requirement must be read rather than assumed. Recoverable marks are in written interpretation: stating what a result means, what the model assumes and where it fails.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Frequently named at Higher Level for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and related routes, often with a minimum grade attached. Calculation method and organic mechanism detail are the fastest recoverable marks in the final weeks.

Biology

HL and SL

Named alongside chemistry on many life-science and medical routes. Data-based questions are the most recoverable component late, because they test precise reading rather than recall, and the mark scheme's accepted terminology is learnable from marking.

Physics

HL and SL

Named for engineering and physical sciences, usually with mathematics. Units, significant figures and explicit statements of principle are where offer-critical marks leak, and all three are presentation habits rather than content.

Economics

HL and SL

Named by some business and economics routes, with mathematics more often the binding requirement. Diagram accuracy and the evaluation at the end of extended responses are the recoverable marks, and both move inside four marked questions.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Relevant both as a subject grade and as evidence of written English for institutions that accept it in place of a separate language test. Check whether the institution does, because that single answer can remove a test from a crowded final year.

Language B

HL and SL

Occasionally a named requirement and more often a contributor to the total. Worth examining when a total is one point short, since late marks in reading and listening components can be more recoverable than in a content-heavy science.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Diploma core

Up to three points of the forty-five, and the only points that are banked long before the written papers. For a candidate sitting one point below an offer total, these are the cheapest points in the whole Diploma and they are decided in the first half of the final year.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a tutor can legitimately support an admissions year, all delivered online. None of them is an admissions consultancy, and none of them involves writing an application.

Offer-critical subject block

Weekly work in the single subject an offer actually names, chosen from the written offer wording rather than from the subject causing most anxiety. Each session sets and marks a timed component, with raw marks logged so the gap to the required grade is visible rather than guessed at.

  • The subject chosen from the offer's literal wording
  • Timed components sat and marked every week
  • Raw marks logged against the grade the offer requires
  • A monthly comparison on papers of equal difficulty

Core points block

Four sessions on Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which carry up to three points and are banked long before the written papers. For a candidate sitting a point below an offer total, these are the cheapest available points and the only ones decided this early.

  • An Extended Essay question tested for researchability
  • Draft comments naming the criterion and the band
  • Theory of Knowledge essay structure against the prescribed title
  • Nothing written for the student at any point

Results-period decision block

Two or three sessions after results, built on component marks rather than on the subject grade, to establish whether a retake can realistically reach an offer condition and by when. Some families use it and decide not to retake, which is a legitimate and valuable outcome.

  • Component marks obtained before any decision
  • Losses classified as content, command term, method or time
  • A written estimate of what is recoverable and in what time
  • An explicit answer when the condition is not reachable

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai

The tutors below teach Diploma subjects at named levels. That is the part of an application a tutor can legitimately affect: the grade in a subject an offer actually names. Each profile states the subject, the level and whether the tutor marks whole papers, so a family can fund the subject the offer depends on rather than the one causing most anxiety.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a university actually reads, and who produces it

An application file is assembled from parts with different authors, and families routinely try to influence the parts they cannot while ignoring the parts they can. The subject grades are the student's. The predicted grades are the school's, built from evidence the student generated earlier. The reference is the school's. Any personal statement or essay is the student's. Test scores, where required, are the student's. Equivalency documentation, where required, is the Ministry's process.

Knowing who owns each part tells you where effort belongs. A family cannot negotiate a reference and can absolutely change which subject gets the final term's tutoring hours. A family cannot shortcut equivalency and can begin the documentation early. A family cannot alter a predicted grade by asking, and can ensure the evidence feeding it is as strong as possible before it closes.

The second thing worth mapping is timing, because every part has a point of no return. The predicted grade closes before most applications. The internal assessment marks that feed it close earlier still. Offer conditions fix on acceptance. The written papers are last, which is why they feel like the whole thing and are in fact the final quarter of a two-year process.

The table below sets out each element with its author, its closing point, and what a family can realistically do. The final column is the honest one: for three of these rows the answer is nothing, and knowing that frees attention for the rows where the answer is something.

02

How a predicted grade is built, and when to ask

  • Ask what informs the prediction and when it closes, in the first year
  • If mocks weigh heavily, the weeks before them are the ones to fund
  • The first Internal Assessment can function as an admissions document
  • Bring a marked paper to the conversation, not an assertion

A predicted grade is a professional judgement by subject teachers about the grade a candidate is likely to achieve, and it is assembled from evidence rather than produced by a formula. The usual inputs are classwork across the first Diploma year and the start of the second, internal assessment marks, and performance in the school's internal or mock examinations. Schools differ in how they weight those, which is why the question to ask is not what the prediction is but what informs it.

The timing matters more than the mechanism. Predictions are finalised at a date the coordinator can tell you, and almost all the evidence behind them is generated before that date. A student who engages with admissions in the final term is engaging after the inputs have been produced. A student who asks in the first Diploma year what feeds the prediction, and when it closes, can act on the answer.

Two specific actions follow from that answer. If mock performance weighs heavily, the mocks matter more than their status as practice suggests, and the weeks before them are worth funding. If internal assessment marks weigh heavily, then the first Internal Assessment in each subject is an admissions document, which is a framing most students have never heard. Either way, the action happens early or not at all.

Predictions are not a negotiation and asking for an uplift rarely helps. What does help is bringing evidence: a marked paper at genuine difficulty, under timing, in the subject where the prediction looks low relative to recent work. A teacher can weigh that. They cannot weigh an assertion that the student is capable of more, however true it may be, and a family that understands this distinction has a far better conversation.

03

Reading an offer literally

Conditional offers for Diploma candidates are usually compound: a points total plus specific subject grades at a specific level. Taking an illustrative example rather than any real institution's requirement, an offer expressed as a total with three named Higher Level grades requires every element of it. A candidate who exceeds the total while falling a grade short in one named Higher Level subject has not met the offer, and that is the single most common way a place is lost.

This is not a trick and it is not unusual. The named subjects are there because the course needs them, and an admissions office that specified Higher Level Chemistry at a particular grade did so because the first year of the degree assumes it. Substituting a brilliant Standard Level grade or an extra point elsewhere does not supply what the course was asking for.

The practical discipline takes ten minutes and is skipped constantly. Print every offer. Underline each condition separately. Identify which one is furthest from the student's current position, and make that the binding condition. Then weight the final term's funded hours towards it rather than spreading them across six subjects. A student spending equal time on everything when one Higher Level grade is at risk is allocating by anxiety.

The table sets out how different offer shapes should change a plan. It uses generic shapes rather than any institution's actual requirement, because requirements differ by institution, campus, intake and route, and should be read from the published source for the specific intake and kept on file.

OFFER SHAPES AND WHAT EACH ONE MAKES BINDING
Offer shapeWhat is actually requiredThe binding conditionWhere the final term's hours belong
A points total onlyThe total, however assembledWhichever subject has the most recoverable marksSpread across the two highest-recoverability subjects

04

The calendar, counted backwards

An admissions year is a logistics exercise and the collisions are predictable, which means they can be planned around. The main UCAS deadline falls in January each year, with the current date published on UCAS's own site. United States applications run through the autumn and winter, with early rounds considerably earlier. UAE university applications run on their own institutional timetables. Any Ministry equivalency work runs on the Ministry's.

Those external dates land on top of the school's internal deadlines. Internal Assessment deadlines in six subjects, the Extended Essay submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay, and the predicted grade finalisation all sit in the same half of the final year as the applications. That overlap, rather than the difficulty of the courses, is what makes the second Diploma year feel unmanageable to families who have not mapped it.

No IB examination or results date appears on this page. The IB publishes its own dates and they could not be verified from the IB's own site for this page, so your Diploma coordinator holds the confirmed dates for your child's session. What can be said is the order, which does not change: internal deadlines, then predictions, then applications, then mocks, then written papers, then results.

The table counts the year backwards from results with what should already be settled at each point. Build your own version with your school's actual dates in the first term; the exercise takes half an hour and is the single most useful piece of admissions preparation available to a Dubai family.

AN ADMISSIONS YEAR, COUNTED BACKWARDS
StageWhat should already be settledWho holds the dateThe cost of being late
Results releasedThe retake arithmetic modelled before the grade arrivesThe IB; your coordinator holds the confirmed dateA decision made in panic rather than from component marks
Written papersHours weighted to the binding offer conditionThe IB; confirmed by the coordinatorEffort spread evenly while one named grade slips

Internal deadlines, first half of the yearInternal assessment drafts and the core components on trackThe schoolBanked marks below ability, affecting predictions too
05

The core points, and why they are the cheapest on the sheet

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to three points towards the forty-five, and they are the only points in the Diploma that are banked well before the written papers. For a candidate sitting one point below an offer total, that makes them the cheapest points available, and they are also the ones most often left until the deadline week.

The asymmetry is worth stating. A point gained on a written paper in the final term requires moving a subject grade, which means recovering a substantial number of raw marks under examination conditions. A point gained from the core requires a better Extended Essay and a better Theory of Knowledge essay, written over months, with feedback, without a clock. Those are not equally difficult tasks, and yet families consistently fund the first and ignore the second.

The practical work is narrow and well understood. For the Extended Essay, the question has to be narrow enough to research in four thousand words, which is a single session's work and determines the ceiling of everything after it. For the Theory of Knowledge essay, the prescribed title has to be engaged with rather than written around, which is a structural discipline rather than a knowledge one.

The boundary applies here as everywhere. A tutor can test whether a research question is researchable, explain what a criterion descriptor requires, challenge an argument, and comment on a draft by naming the criterion and the band. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or complete any part of an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. These are assessed components, and submitted work that is not the student's own is malpractice with the consequence falling on the student.

06

Equivalency and attestation, described rather than promised

If a student intends to study at a UAE institution, or to work in the UAE afterwards, recognition of their secondary certificate by the Ministry of Education is likely to come up. It is a process with its own documentation requirements and its own timetable, run by the Ministry, and no tutoring service performs it, secures it or can guarantee its outcome. Describing it accurately is useful; implying any control over it is not.

Two tracks have published requirements that are stable enough to state. On the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. On the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test.

For the IB Diploma specifically, no points threshold appears anywhere on this page, because none could be verified from an official Ministry source for it. That omission is deliberate and it is the honest position. A figure circulating on tutoring sites is exactly the kind of number a family plans around and then discovers was invented, and the Ministry's own channel is where the current requirement should be read.

The practical advice is short. Start the documentation conversation early rather than in the final term, because certified documents and attestations take time that an examination year does not have spare. Ask the school what it has seen other families need. And treat tutoring as entirely separate from this: it is not a requirement for equivalency, for admission or for progression, and any suggestion otherwise is a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process.

07

What a tutor can legitimately do, and what we do not do

It is worth being precise, because this is a market with a good deal of blurring. A tutor can raise a subject grade by teaching the subject and by marking work against the published standard. A tutor can coach the process on an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay without producing any of it. A tutor can help a student understand what an offer requires and where their marks currently sit against it. That is a real and useful contribution to an admissions outcome.

What IB Gram does not do is act as an admissions consultancy. We do not write personal statements or application essays, we do not submit applications, we do not advise on which institutions to apply to as a commercial service, and we do not represent students to universities. A student's counsellor at school owns that work, and in Dubai most IB schools have one. Asking the counsellor early and arriving prepared gets more from them than any paid substitute.

Nor can anybody promise a place. No tutor, platform or consultancy can promise admission, a points total or a subject grade, and any claim of that kind should end the conversation. Tutoring is also not a requirement for admission: students are admitted to universities every year without any of it, and suggesting otherwise is a false-urgency claim about somebody else's decision process.

The honest offer is therefore narrower than the category name suggests, and more checkable. Identify the binding condition from the written offer. Measure where the student currently stands in that subject with a marked timed paper. Fund that subject and the core points. Log raw marks so the gap is visible rather than assumed. Everything on this page is designed so a family can judge that work themselves rather than take it on trust.

08

The evidence record for an admissions year

In a year with this much happening, the record is what prevents drift. Four documents, kept together, do most of the work: the printed offers with their conditions underlined, a single calendar holding internal deadlines and application dates, a log of raw marks by subject with dates and conditions, and the comments on core component drafts.

The raw mark log is the one families never keep and the one that matters most. For each offer-critical subject, record the paper, the level, the date, the conditions and the raw mark, every time one is sat. Over a term that produces a line rather than an impression, and a line can be compared against the grade the offer requires. Without it, the conversation in March is about feelings, and feelings in an admissions year are reliably pessimistic.

The second useful document is a one-page summary of where each offer condition stands: met, likely, at risk, or not reachable. Updating it monthly forces an honest conversation and often reveals that the subject everybody is worried about is comfortable while a quieter one is the actual risk. That reallocation is frequently worth more than additional hours.

The table lists the documents with who holds them and what each one is for. None of them requires expertise to maintain, and all of them can be kept in one folder. In a year where everything happens at once, a folder beats a memory, and it also means that any conversation with a teacher, a counsellor or an admissions office starts from the same set of facts rather than from three different recollections of what was agreed.

09

Buying this honestly

Published Dubai rates give the arithmetic for the part a tutor can affect. A qualified online subject tutor sits at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB work is quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED's premium named tier at AED 650. A twelve-session offer-critical subject block therefore runs roughly AED 2,400 to 5,400, and a four-session core points block AED 800 to 1,800.

Refuse any admissions service that promises a place, a points total or a subject grade. Nobody can deliver those, the claim is unverifiable, and a provider willing to make it is telling you something useful about the rest of their advice. Refuse equally any suggestion that tutoring is required for admission or for equivalency, which is a false-urgency claim about somebody else's process.

Refuse any offer to write a personal statement, an application essay, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. The first two are the student's own representation of themselves and the last two are assessed components where submitted work that is not the student's own is malpractice, with the consequence falling on the student.

Insist instead on three things. The binding condition identified from the written offer, in writing. A marked timed paper in that subject with a raw mark and a date, as a baseline. And a monthly comparison against the grade the offer requires. No university requirement, no Ministry threshold for the IB, no success rate and no admission statistic appears anywhere on this page, because requirements go stale and the rest could not be produced with a sample size, a date and a method.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

What location changes in an admissions year is school counselling capacity and timetabling, both of which vary across the city. These notes cover the practical pattern.

Emirates Hills and Dubai Hills

Large Diploma cohorts mean a counsellor handling many applications in the same weeks. Families who arrive with the offer wording printed and the binding condition identified get more out of a short meeting than those who arrive with questions.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Dense school provision and short commutes, so a weekday session is realistic even in a busy final year. Useful for the offer-critical subject work that has to happen alongside applications rather than after them.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Households frequently applying across several systems at once, with UK, US and UAE deadlines running in parallel. One calendar holding all of them plus the school's internal deadlines is the single most useful document in the house.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Long eastern commutes compress the evening in a year that has no spare time. A weekend block for whole timed papers in the offer-critical subject holds better than two tired weekday sessions.

Downtown, Business Bay and Al Jaddaf

Central towers near continuum IB schools, with many families holding offers overseas and locally at once. Equivalency questions come up here more than elsewhere and should be put to the Ministry early rather than late.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

The university belt, with students frequently considering local institutions alongside overseas ones. Published entry requirements for each local programme should be read directly, since they differ by programme rather than by institution.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Print the offers and underline every condition

Each condition separately, for every offer including the fallback choices. Then identify which one sits furthest from the student's current position. That is the binding condition, and it should drive the final term rather than the subject that generates the most anxiety at home.

  2. 02

Ask what feeds the predicted grade, and when it closes

Put the question to the coordinator in the first Diploma year, not the final term. If mock performance weighs heavily, the weeks before mocks are the ones worth funding. If internal assessment marks weigh heavily, the first Internal Assessment is effectively an admissions document.

  3. 03

    Baseline the offer-critical subject

One whole timed paper at the real level, marked against the published standard, with losses classified as content, command term, method or time. Record the raw mark, the level, the date and the conditions. That number is what the monthly comparison is measured against.

  4. 04

    Secure the core points early

Up to three points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, banked long before the written papers and written without a clock. For a candidate a point short of an offer total these are the cheapest points available, and they close in the first half of the final year.

  5. 05

Model the retake arithmetic before results

Work out, in advance, which component marks would need to move and by how much if a condition is missed, and ask the institutions in writing what they will accept and by when. A decision made from component marks beats one made in the week after results.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We state what a tutor cannot do

No tutor, platform or consultancy can promise a place, a points total or a subject grade, and tutoring is not a requirement for admission or for equivalency. Saying that plainly is unusual in this category and it is the precondition for trusting anything else on the page.

The binding condition drives the spending

Funded hours go to the subject the written offer actually names, identified by printing the offer and underlining each condition. Optimising a points total while missing a named Higher Level grade is the most common way a Dubai family loses a place.

The core points are treated as the cheapest

Up to three points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, written over months without a clock, against a point on a written paper requiring recovery of many raw marks under examination conditions. Those are not equally difficult tasks.

No requirements reproduced, on purpose

University requirements differ by institution, campus, intake and route, and no IB points figure for Ministry equivalency could be verified from an official source. Both are read from the source for the specific intake and kept on file rather than published here.

A raw mark log instead of reassurance

Paper, level, date, conditions and raw mark, every time one is sat, compared monthly against the grade the offer requires. Without it, the conversation in the final term is conducted on feelings, which in an admissions year are reliably pessimistic.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How is a predicted grade actually produced?+

It is a professional judgement by subject teachers, assembled from evidence rather than calculated. The usual inputs are classwork across the first Diploma year and the start of the second, internal assessment marks, and performance in the school's internal or mock examinations, weighted differently by different schools. So the useful question is not what the prediction is but what informs it and when it is finalised. Ask the coordinator in the first Diploma year, because almost all the evidence behind the prediction is generated before it closes.

Can a predicted grade be changed once it has been issued?+

Rarely by request, and sometimes by evidence. Asking for an uplift on the grounds that a student is capable of more does not usually move anything, because a teacher cannot weigh an assertion. What a teacher can weigh is a marked paper at genuine difficulty, sat under timing, in the subject where the prediction looks low relative to recent work. Bring that rather than an argument. And ask early, since the useful window is before the prediction is finalised rather than after.

What does an offer of a points total plus named Higher Level grades mean?+

Both, independently. Taking an illustrative shape rather than any institution's actual requirement, an offer expressed as a total with three named Higher Level grades requires the total and every named grade. Exceeding the total while falling a grade short in one named Higher Level subject does not meet it, and that is the most common way a place is lost. The named subjects are there because the course assumes them. Print the offer, underline each condition separately, and plan the final term around the furthest one.

Does a Standard Level grade ever substitute for a named Higher Level grade?+

Rarely, and it should never be assumed. Where a course names a subject at Higher Level, the specification is usually literal, and a Standard Level grade in the same subject is not treated as supplying what the course asked for however high it is. Nor does an extra point elsewhere compensate. The only reliable source is the institution's published requirement for the intake in question, read directly and kept on file, including for the insurance choices where this mistake does the most damage.

What do the three core points actually do for an offer?+

They count towards the total, up to a maximum of three from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay combined, and they are the only points banked well before the written papers. For a candidate sitting one point below a required total they are the cheapest points on the sheet, because they come from work written over months with feedback and no clock rather than from recovering raw marks under examination conditions. They are also the points most often left until a deadline week, which is why they are worth funding early.

What is equivalency and will my child need it?+

It is the process by which the UAE Ministry of Education recognises a foreign secondary certificate, and it typically matters if a student intends to study at a UAE institution or to work here afterwards. It is the Ministry's own process with its own documentation requirements and timetable, and no tutoring service performs it, secures it or can guarantee its outcome. Start the documentation conversation early rather than in the final term, because certified documents take time an examination year does not have spare. Read the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel.

When do application deadlines fall relative to the IB calendar?+

In the same half of the final year as the internal deadlines, which is the collision that makes the year feel unmanageable. The main UCAS deadline falls in January each year with the current date on UCAS's own site, United States applications run through the autumn and winter with early rounds much earlier, and UAE institutions and the Ministry run their own timetables. Meanwhile internal assessment deadlines in six subjects, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay all close. Build one calendar in the first term.

Do you write personal statements or act as admissions consultants?+

No. IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform, so what we can legitimately affect is the grade in a subject an offer names and the quality of the student's own academic work. We do not write personal statements or application essays, submit applications, or represent students to institutions. Your child's school counsellor owns that work, and most Dubai IB schools have one. Arriving at that meeting with the offers printed and the binding condition identified gets considerably more out of it than any paid substitute would.

What happens if my child misses an offer condition by one grade?+

Contact the institution rather than assuming the outcome, because responses vary and some are more flexible than families expect, particularly where the total was met and a single named grade was narrowly missed. Do that quickly and in writing. In parallel, get the component marks behind the subject grade rather than just the grade, because they determine whether a retake could realistically reach the condition and by when. A decision made from component marks beats one made from a disappointing number.

Do UAE universities read the Diploma the same way as institutions abroad?+

They read it, and the specific requirements differ by programme rather than by institution, which is the practical point. A programme at a local institution may name subjects and grades, or a points total, or additional local requirements, and a sister programme at the same institution may differ. Read the published requirement for the exact programme and intake, keep a copy, and check whether equivalency or attestation is expected as part of the process. No institution's requirement is reproduced on this page for that reason.

Do tutors come to our home in Dubai for this work?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE, since that is an India-only service, and all sessions are delivered online over live video. In an admissions year that is a practical benefit. A candidate carrying six subjects, the core and several application deadlines can take a late session without anybody adding a drive to the evening, and the marked work and raw mark log accumulate in one file the student can show a teacher or a counsellor.

Which subject should we fund if an offer looks at risk?+

The one the offer names that sits furthest from the student's current position, measured from a marked timed paper rather than from a report comment. That is frequently not the subject causing the most anxiety at home, and the reallocation is often worth more than extra hours. Where an offer names only a points total, fund the two subjects with the most recoverable marks instead, which means those losing marks to command terms, method and pacing rather than to absent content.

Is a retake worth it to secure a university place?+

Sometimes, and it is answerable with arithmetic rather than hope. Get the component marks, not the subject grade, and establish whether the loss was concentrated in one paper and whether it was habit-shaped or content-shaped. Then ask the institution in writing whether it will accept a result from a later session for the intake in question and by what date. Where the condition is reachable and the institution will wait, a narrow block has a good case. Where either fails, it does not.

What should we keep on file across the admissions year?+

Four things, in one folder. The printed offers with every condition underlined separately, including the fallback choices. One calendar holding the school's internal deadlines, the mock window and every application date. A raw mark log recording paper, level, date, conditions and mark for each timed attempt in the offer-critical subjects. And the comments on core component drafts, naming criterion letters and bands. Add a monthly one-page summary marking each offer condition as met, likely, at risk or unreachable.

Does tutoring improve the chance of an offer?+

It can raise a subject grade, which is the part of an application a tutor is able to affect, and that is all anyone can honestly claim. It is not a requirement for admission: students are admitted every year with no tutoring at all, and any suggestion that it is required is a false-urgency claim about somebody else's decision process. No success rate or admission statistic appears on this page, because none could be produced with a sample size, a date and a method, and nobody can promise a place.

Print the offer, then measure the gap

Admissions work in an IB year is mostly document discipline. Print every offer including the fallbacks and underline each condition separately, so the binding one is obvious rather than assumed. Ask the coordinator what feeds the predicted grade and when it closes, early enough that the answer is still useful. Then take one marked timed paper in the subject the offer actually names and record the raw mark, the level, the date and the conditions. Book the free trial lesson, bring that script, and ask for a monthly comparison against the grade the offer requires. Nobody can promise a place; a measured gap is better than reassurance.
