IB DP Chemistry HL Tutor in Dubai

The price of an IB DP chemistry HL tutor in Dubai ranges from under AED 50 an hour to over AED 600, and the published rates alone will not tell a parent why. This page compares the provider models a Dubai family can actually buy from, sets out what an hour includes at each price, and names the Higher Level topics that reward one-to-one time. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video. The first one is free.

  • Every AED figure here is a published market rate with its date stated
  • No IB Gram price list is invented; the first lesson is free with no card
  • Chemistry HL runs to 240 taught hours against 150 at Standard Level

Why two Chemistry HL quotes in Dubai can differ by a factor of ten

A Dubai parent who asks three providers what Higher Level chemistry support costs will get three incompatible answers. One quotes AED 45 an hour. One quotes AED 270. One quotes AED 650 and declines to say what the hour contains. None of the three is lying. They are selling different things under the same word, and the unit of comparison that would make the difference visible is almost never published.

The useful unit is not the hour. It is the hour plus whatever happens between hours. A tutor who teaches for sixty minutes and leaves is selling contact time. A tutor who marks a timed Paper 2 question against the published scheme before the lesson, spends the lesson on the script, and writes a note afterwards is selling diagnosis, and the diagnosis is what moves a chemistry grade. Two families spending the same AED 1,200 a month can be buying entirely different products, and the cheaper-per-hour arrangement is frequently the more expensive one per mark recovered.

Higher Level chemistry raises the stakes because the course is large. It runs to roughly 240 taught hours against 150 at Standard Level, across the same six themes, with a longer Paper 1 carrying more multiple-choice items, a longer extended-response Paper 2, and the same 24-mark scientific investigation. The additional content is not evenly difficult. Organic mechanisms, acid-base calculations with buffers and pH curves, energetics including entropy and spontaneity, electrode potentials and rate equations derived from data account for most of the hours a Dubai family ends up paying for. Spotting that early is worth more than any discount.

Context helps too. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. The emirate's sector keeps growing: seven new private schools open for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. Tutoring is the one education cost in this market with no regulator setting a ceiling, which is exactly why a family should price it deliberately.

What follows is a cost analysis rather than a brochure. Six provider models with their published AED bands. What an hour includes at each tier. Tutoring measured against school fees and examination entry. The arithmetic of a pair or a small group. Four spending patterns that reliably waste money. The Higher Level topics that justify one-to-one rates and the ones that do not. What can and cannot be bought around the scientific investigation. And what a parent can verify before paying anyone. The aim is that a family finishes this page able to price a quote rather than simply react to one.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost behaves differently at each stage of an IB school career, because what a family is buying changes. The three programmes below are where Dubai spending on chemistry support actually occurs.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Chemistry HL is the most commonly bought science support at this stage because it is both large and a prerequisite for several competitive degrees, which concentrates demand into the two Diploma years.

In Dubai, Diploma spending clusters in two places: the winter of DP1, when the investigation and the Extended Essay collide, and the spring of DP2 before the written papers. Rates do not formally rise in the exam term, but availability tightens, and the specialist slots at a given price fill first. A family that books a recurring slot in September is buying at a different effective price from one booking in March.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years of criterion-assessed study with optional eAssessment. Science support bought at this stage is cheaper per hour and tends to be about study habits and scientific writing rather than examination technique, because there is no external paper to prepare for in most settings.

Dubai families often underspend in Year 10 and Year 11 and then overspend in DP2. Money put into algebraic fluency and laboratory write-up discipline during MYP is the cheapest chemistry support available in this market, because it removes the two faults that later need specialist rates to repair.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

DP courses alongside a career-related study and a personal and professional skills course. A CP student taking Chemistry HL sits the same papers and submits the same investigation as a Diploma candidate, so the support required, and its cost, is identical.

Dubai's CP offering is small and usually tied to business, aviation or health pathways. Where chemistry appears in a CP timetable it is often for a health-science destination, which means the grade carries an admissions consequence and families treat the spend as non-discretionary. Placement blocks push the tutorial to weekends, where availability is scarcer and the effective price is higher.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry HL is this page's subject. Families comparing costs usually want to know which other subjects can share a weekly arrangement, because two subjects with one tutor is the one genuine discount available in this market.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Six themes across structure and reactivity, assessed by a split Paper 1, an extended-response Paper 2 and a 24-mark investigation. The Higher Level extensions that absorb paid hours are organic mechanisms, buffers and pH curves, entropy and spontaneity, electrode potentials and rate equations.

Biology

SL and HL

Four themes with the same assessment architecture. Chemistry and biology share enough molecular content that one tutor can often cover both, which is where a genuine reduction in total spend comes from rather than from a package discount.

Physics

SL and HL

Five themes assessed on the same model. The overlap with chemistry is measurement: uncertainty propagation, significant figures and graph linearisation are marked in both subjects, so paying twice to learn them once is a common and avoidable cost.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. Chemistry HL students taking AA usually handle logarithmic pH work and rate-equation manipulation faster, which reduces the number of chemistry hours needed on the calculation-heavy topics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Technology-active and statistics-heavy. AI students taking Chemistry HL frequently need extra time on logarithms and on rearranging equilibrium expressions, and that time is cheaper bought inside a chemistry session than as separate mathematics tuition.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL and HL

Assessed with a scientific investigation on the same four criteria as chemistry. Where a student takes both, investigation feedback can be sequenced so one block of sessions serves two internal assessments rather than two blocks serving one each.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

An interdisciplinary course counting as a science or a humanities subject. Its data-handling and systems content overlaps with chemistry's quantitative work, and students taking it alongside Chemistry HL rarely need separate support for the numerical sections.

Psychology

SL and HL

Approaches, options and an internal assessment based on a simple experimental replication. The statistical treatment in that report is the usual reason a Dubai psychology student asks for science or mathematics help, and it is a short block rather than an ongoing cost.

Design Technology

SL and HL

Written papers and a design project. Materials science content overlaps with chemistry's structure and bonding themes, and the project raises the same authorship boundary that the scientific investigation does.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition and a prescribed-title essay. Chemistry students write well on the natural sciences as an area of knowledge, and TOK support is usually two or three sessions rather than a term, which keeps it a minor line in any budget.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy the support, each with a different cost profile. All are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai, and in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India.

Recurring weekly slot

A fixed 90-minute session each week with a marked timed question returned beforehand. This is the lowest effective cost per mark recovered, because the marking generates the diagnosis and the fixed slot avoids the premium paid for scarce last-minute availability in the exam term.

  • Priced on session length and marking volume, both stated before booking
  • Booked in September rather than March, when specialist slots are open
  • Cancellation notice agreed in writing at the start

Topic block

A short defined run of sessions on one Higher Level area, typically organic mechanisms, acid-base calculations or energetics. A block has a known total cost, which suits families who want a ceiling on spending rather than an open arrangement.

  • Fixed number of sessions with a stated scope and a stated price
  • Ends with a marked question set on that topic alone
  • No rollover into a second block without a new decision

Exam-term intensive

Two or three sessions a week in the final weeks, each built on a full timed paper marked before the lesson. The most expensive pattern per week and the shortest in duration, and the one most often started later than it should be.

  • Full papers sat under timed conditions and returned marked
  • Weekend blocks for families in outlying communities
  • A stated end date rather than an open commitment

Six ways to buy Chemistry Higher Level help in Dubai, and what each model charges

Comparing an IB DP chemistry HL tutor in Dubai against another provider is only possible once the models are separated. There are six on offer in this emirate, and their economics differ more than their advertising suggests. A specialist agency matches a subject expert and takes a margin for doing so. An international marketplace lists independent tutors and charges a platform fee, usually quoting in dollars. A freelance tutor found through a community group sets their own rate with no intermediary. A tuition centre with premises runs small groups at a per-student rate. School-run support, where a school offers extra sessions, is sometimes included in fees. And a parent-arranged study group costs nothing but a timetable.

Published rates read in October 2026 place these roughly as follows. Budget online providers advertise from AED 33 to AED 65 an hour. Qualified online subject tutors are commonly quoted at AED 150 to AED 300. In-home one-to-one visits run AED 180 to AED 500 including travel. IB and A-Level specialists sit at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Premium named tutors have been advertised as high as AED 650. Monthly packages in the market include about AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts monthly spend for weekly one-hour sessions at AED 240 to AED 600 at budget level, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

The variable that most changes value is not the model but whether the price includes a marked script. A specialist at AED 300 who returns a marked Paper 2 question before each lesson is producing a diagnosis. A freelance tutor at AED 120 who teaches from a textbook is producing contact time. For a course as large as Chemistry HL, the diagnosis is what decides which of 240 taught hours need revisiting, and buying it is cheaper than revisiting all of them.

We quote our own arrangement against a stated session length and a stated amount of marking, and we do not publish a rate card on these pages because the honest answer depends on both. The first lesson is free and no card details are taken for it. Any provider, ours included, should be willing to say in writing what an hour contains before a family commits to a term.

What the AED number is paying for, line by line

An hour of chemistry support contains up to six distinct pieces of work, and the gap between a cheap arrangement and an expensive one is which of them are present. The contact hour itself is the visible part. Behind it sit script marking against the published scheme, preparation keyed to the school's current unit rather than a generic sequence, a written session note, resource work such as question sets built around a specific weakness, and administration including matching and rescheduling.

Pricing a tutor by the contact hour alone therefore compares a complete arrangement with an incomplete one. A family paying AED 150 for an hour of contact time with nothing around it is paying AED 150 for an hour. A family paying AED 300 for an hour that includes a marked question, a tailored question set and a note is paying for perhaps ninety minutes of a tutor's working time. The second figure is higher and the rate per unit of actual work is lower.

There is a further asymmetry in Higher Level chemistry specifically. Marking a chemistry extended-response answer properly takes time, because the marks are distributed across method, state symbols, significant figures, and the explanation itself, and a marker has to show the student where each went. A provider who includes marking at a low rate is usually either doing it quickly or not doing it at all, and a returned script with a number on the top and no annotation is the tell.

The practical move for a parent is to ask for the breakdown in writing before booking. Which of the six lines are included? How long is the marking turnaround? Does the note come to the parent or only to the student? Those three questions separate providers faster than any rate comparison, and most providers in this market have never been asked them.

Tutoring cost in context: Dubai school fees, the 2026-27 freeze and examination entry

Tutoring is rarely the largest education line in a Dubai household budget, and seeing it beside the others changes how families decide. Dubai's private school sector enrolled 387,441 pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula, with International Baccalaureate programmes accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment. On 22 May 2026 KHDA confirmed there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion.

That freeze matters to a tutoring decision in a specific way. School fees for 2026-27 are a known quantity, which makes the discretionary education spend easier to plan than in a year when both numbers are moving. The sector is also expanding: seven new private schools open for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. More IB provision means more Chemistry HL candidates, and demand for specialist support in a single subject at a single level tends to tighten availability before it moves price.

Examination entry is the other context line, and it is one families routinely forget. Entry for IB candidates is handled by the school, which registers candidates and passes on the cost within fees or as a separate charge depending on the school. A student sitting as a private candidate, which occasionally happens after a mid-year move, faces a different arrangement entirely and should ask the school and the examination centre directly. Cambridge and Pearson publish their own entry deadlines well ahead of each series, and in the UAE those series are June and November for Cambridge and May/June and November for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. Pearson's published November 2026 timetable ran to 19 November 2026, with entries closing long before it opened; for the Cambridge June papers, entries close in the spring and the exact date comes to the centre rather than circulating as folklore. A private candidate has to find a centre willing to enter them inside one of those windows, which is a second reason to start the conversation a term early rather than in the term the papers fall.

Set against those, a tutoring decision is more tractable than it feels. The question is not whether AED 1,000 a month is a lot in the abstract. It is whether that spend, with marking included, produces a mark log that changes a predicted grade in a subject that gates a degree application. Where it does not, the right answer is to stop paying, and we would rather write that in a six-week review than keep a slot filled.

One-to-one, a pair, or a small group for Chemistry HL

The arithmetic of sharing looks compelling and holds only under conditions that are rarer than parents expect. Two students sharing a 90-minute session at a combined rate below two separate sessions is a genuine saving, and for some work it costs nothing in quality. Teaching a mechanism, walking through a mark scheme, or working an equilibrium calculation at the board are all fine with two students present. The saving collapses the moment the two students need different things, which in Higher Level chemistry happens quickly.

The conditions for a pair to work are narrow: the same level, the same school or at least the same point in the scheme of work, and similar current attainment. Two DP2 students at the same school both losing marks on buffer calculations are an excellent pair. A DP1 and a DP2 student are not, even as siblings, because the second will spend half the session waiting. A student at grade 4 and a student at grade 6 in the same class are usually not either, since the first needs the mechanism re-taught and the second needs harder questions.

Tuition centres in Dubai advertise group classes at per-student rates well below any one-to-one figure, and for broad revision of a theme that can be reasonable value. What a group cannot do is diagnose. The marks a specific student is losing on a specific question type are invisible in a class of eight, and the pace is set by the median. Families often use both deliberately: a centre class for content coverage and a small number of one-to-one hours for script work. That combination is frequently the cheapest route to a mark log.

Where siblings are involved we ask about the investigation before agreeing to a shared arrangement. Two students in the same house working with the same tutor on scientific investigations creates an authorship question nobody needs, and the simplest answer is separate tutors for that component even where the teaching is shared.

Four spending patterns that waste money in Higher Level chemistry

  • Undiagnosed coverage re-teaches hours the student already holds
  • An unmarked hour removes the only record of where marks went
  • Waiting until spring costs availability rather than rate
  • Unevidenced examiner branding is a claim, not an advantage

The first is paying for coverage a student already has. A family that books a term of general chemistry sessions because a report said grade 5 is buying a re-teach of 240 hours, most of which are intact. Without a marked script nobody knows which themes are weak, so the tutor starts at theme one and the student sits through material they knew. Two months later the grade has not moved and the conclusion drawn is that tutoring does not work. The conclusion that should be drawn is that undiagnosed tutoring does not work.

The second is buying hours instead of marking. The cheapest available hour almost never includes a marked script, and in a subject where marks are distributed across method, state symbols, significant figures and explanation, the script is the only honest record of where they went. A family spending AED 600 a month on four unmarked hours is usually getting less than one spending AED 600 on two hours with marking.

The third is starting the exam-term intensive late. Availability tightens in the spring, specialist slots at a given price fill first, and the pattern a family wanted at AED 250 is often only available at a higher figure or at an unusable time. The same arrangement booked in September costs the same per hour and comes with two terms of mark log behind it. Nothing about the rate changes; the effective price of waiting is paid in availability.

The fourth is paying for reputation that cannot be evidenced. Premium rates in this market are sometimes attached to examiner branding. Where a tutor's current examining status cannot be evidenced, the premium is being paid for a claim, and examiner status in any case gives no access to marking, boundaries or paper content. A marked script and a mark log are evidence. A description on a profile is not.

06

Where Higher Level chemistry hours convert into marks, topic by topic

Not every part of Chemistry HL rewards one-to-one time equally, and a family spending deliberately should know which parts do. The Higher Level course runs across the same six themes as Standard Level, covering models of the particulate nature of matter, bonding and structure, classification of matter, what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. The extensions sit inside those themes rather than beside them.

The areas that reliably absorb paid hours are the ones where a student cannot self-check. Organic mechanisms are first: a student can write a plausible-looking arrow-pushing sequence and have no way of knowing it is wrong, and the marks are awarded for specific features including charges, curly arrow origins and intermediates. Acid-base work is second, because pH curves, buffer calculations and logarithmic arithmetic compound errors silently. Energetics including entropy and spontaneity is third, where sign conventions decide whole answers. Electrode potentials and rate equations derived from experimental data complete the list.

The areas that reward self-study at least as well are the descriptive and recall-weighted parts: periodicity trends, bonding types, classification, and the factual content of the structure themes. A well-organised student with past papers and the data booklet can make progress there alone, and paying specialist rates to be told what a table in a textbook already says is poor value. We say this plainly at the first session, because a parent who knows which half of the course to buy help for spends less and gets more.

Spectroscopy sits in between. Interpreting mass spectra, infrared spectra and proton nuclear magnetic resonance data is highly coachable and quick to improve, often in two or three sessions, after which the student can practise independently. That is the shape to look for: short blocks with a visible end, rather than an open arrangement that quietly becomes the default.

Paying for work on the scientific investigation, and the line that cannot be bought

  • 24 marks across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts is legitimate and often the highest-value spend
  • Completed internal assessments are sold in this market and risk the Diploma
  • A dated draft history is free and is the only real authorship evidence

The scientific investigation is 20 per cent of the Chemistry HL grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each, and capped at 3,000 words. The criteria are research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Because the component is worth a fifth of the grade and is produced over months rather than in a hall, it is where families spend most readily and where the market behaves worst.

What can legitimately be paid for is teaching and feedback. A tutor may explain how each criterion is read, comment on a draft the student has produced, point out that an evaluation names human error rather than a specific instrument effect, and teach uncertainty propagation on separate data that the student then applies to their own results. That work has real value: investigation marks are commonly lost on structure and on evaluation specificity rather than on chemistry, and both respond to criterion-referenced feedback.

What cannot be bought is authorship. The investigation is submitted as the student's own work and the school certifies it on that basis. A tutor may not choose the research question, process the student's data, restructure the document or supply text. There are providers in this market selling completed internal assessments, at figures around AED 3,750 in one documented case. Buying one puts a student at risk of a malpractice finding and the loss of the Diploma, and the money is the smallest part of what is lost.

The practical safeguard we use costs nothing: a dated record of every draft received and every comment returned. If a school ever raises an authorship question, that timeline is the only useful evidence anyone can produce. We suggest families keep their own copy, whoever they work with, and we suggest asking any provider to commit to the same practice in writing before paying for investigation support.

Medicine and pharmacy from Dubai: what the Chemistry HL grade is being bought for

Most Dubai families paying specialist rates for Chemistry HL are doing so because of where the grade leads. Medicine, dentistry and pharmacy programmes commonly specify chemistry, frequently at Higher Level, and often a second science. Those requirements are published by each university for each programme and they move between admissions cycles, which is why a decision taken on a two-year-old forum post is an expensive mistake.

The honest framing is that the grade is a gate rather than a purchase. No amount of tutoring guarantees a chemistry grade, and anybody presenting a spend as a route to an offer is selling something they cannot deliver. What spending can do is produce evidence early enough to change a plan: if a marked mock in the autumn of DP2 shows a grade 5 against a requirement of 6, a family has time to adjust the application list, add a foundation route, or concentrate the remaining hours on the two topics costing most. That is worth paying for. A term of undiagnosed sessions in the spring is not.

Separately, the UAE Ministry of Education runs an equivalency process for secondary certificates, and it is not the same thing as a university prerequisite. For the British track the documented requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five, plus one A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. For the American track, English proficiency requires 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Math. No IB points threshold should be quoted unless it has been read on the Ministry's own site.

None of this requires tutoring, and no provider performs or guarantees equivalency. The process belongs to the Ministry and the family, and any page suggesting otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory procedure.

Checking what you are paying for: permits, agreements and unused sessions

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • A Dubai operation with premises needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit
  • Four written questions about inclusions, notice, unused sessions and matching prevent most disputes
  • Enquiry forms collect timetable and level, not grades or photographs

Before money changes hands there are three things a Dubai parent can verify, and most families verify none of them. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, any specific figure quoted to you is unverified.

The second is the status of the organisation. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That permit is a specific thing issued to a specific kind of business. IB Gram does not hold it and does not operate premises in the UAE, which is why these pages describe online delivery and nothing else. Any provider describing itself as approved by a UAE authority should be able to produce the permit number.

The third is the agreement. Four questions settle most disputes before they happen: what does the hourly figure include, what notice is required to move a session, what happens to a session paid for and not used, and what happens if the tutor is not the right match. Written answers to those four are worth more than any discount. We state ours before the first paid session, and the first session itself is free with no card details taken.

On data, lead forms on these pages collect information about a minor, and the UAE Personal Data Protection law applies. We collect the student's year group, subject, level and school timetable because the match depends on them, we do not ask for grades, photographs or identity documents at enquiry stage, and a privacy link sits on every page with a route to deletion.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and what tutoring actually costs there

Delivery is online across the emirate, so a family's area does not change our rate. It does change what the in-home alternative costs locally, because an in-home rate carries the drive. The notes below are about that difference.

Emirates Hills and Jumeirah Islands

Villa communities where in-home quotes sit at the upper end of the Dubai band, often AED 350 to AED 500 an hour including travel. The pool of tutors willing to drive there on a weekday evening is small, which is what raises the figure rather than the subject itself.

Dubai Hills Estate

Central enough that in-home rates stay mid-band, with several Diploma schools within a short drive. Families here compare the online and in-home options most evenly, and the deciding factor is usually whether marking is included rather than price alone.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Dense school access and short commutes, so in-home quotes are lower here than in the outer villa communities. The common spend pattern is a short exam-term block rather than a two-year arrangement.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Tilal Al Ghaf

Newer outlying developments where travel time pushes in-home quotes up and availability down. Online delivery removes that premium entirely, which is the single clearest cost argument in these communities.

Mudon and Damac Hills

Growing family areas with school runs in several directions. Parents here frequently ask whether siblings can share a session to halve the cost; the arithmetic for that is set out in the small-group section below, and it only works where both students are on the same level.

Al Warqa and Mirdif

Established Deira-side communities with long cross-city school routes. In-home tutoring here carries a real travel cost for an evening slot, and weekend blocks are the pattern families choose when they want someone in the room.

Dubai Creek Harbour

High-rise living with a young school-age population and limited local Diploma provision, so students commute. The usable weekday window is narrow, and an online session at 6.30pm is often the only arrangement that does not cost a meal or a sleep hour.

Al Barsha South and Arjan

Apartment communities close to several large campuses. Group tuition centres advertise heavily here at per-student rates well below one-to-one, and the trade-off between those and a specialist hour is the conversation we have most often with these families.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask what the hour contains before asking the rate

Send us the school, the level and the current unit, and ask what is included. We answer in writing: session length, marking turnaround, whether the note goes to a parent, and what notice moves a session. Compare that answer with the market bands on this page.

  2. 02

Free first lesson built on a marked question

The student sits one timed extended-response chemistry question beforehand. The free session is spent on that script, identifying which themes are intact and which are costing marks. No card details are taken, and the note afterwards says whether weekly support is warranted.

  3. 03

Buy the half of the course that needs buying

From the script we name the topics worth one-to-one time and the topics a student can cover alone with past papers and the data booklet. Most Chemistry HL students need help with three or four areas, not with 240 taught hours.

  4. 04

Fix the slot early rather than cheaply

Specialist availability tightens in the spring while rates stay the same, so a slot booked in the autumn is the same price and a better arrangement. We set one recurring time around school periods and mandatory subject lessons.

  5. 05

Review the spend at six weeks

After about six sessions we compare the mark log with the first script and state one of three outcomes: continue, change focus, or stop. Where the log shows no movement, we say stop. A slot kept full is not the same thing as a grade moving.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source and its date

The AED bands here are published Dubai market rates read in October 2026, with the Bestimate rate table and advertised packages named. KHDA, MoHRE and u.ae supply the regulatory statements. Nothing on the page is a statistic we cannot attribute.

Marking is priced in, not sold as an extra

A chemistry script shows where method, state symbols, significant figures and explanation marks went. Arrangements quoted without marking are cheaper per hour and more expensive per mark recovered, and we say which one a family is buying.

We will tell you not to buy something

Periodicity, bonding types and classification reward organised self-study with past papers. Paying specialist rates for material a textbook already sets out is poor value, and naming that at the first session costs us hours and keeps families longer.

No invented price list and no outcome promises

Our fee depends on session length and marking volume, the first lesson is free with no card, and no tutor can guarantee a chemistry grade. Where a mark log shows no movement, the honest recommendation is to stop rather than to add sessions.

The authorship line is stated before it is tested

Investigation support is criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own drafts with a dated version history. Completed internal assessments are sold in this market; a candidate who submits one risks the Diploma, which is a cost no saving covers.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What are the six ways to buy Chemistry Higher Level help in Dubai?+

A budget online platform, a specialist agency, an international marketplace, a freelance tutor working in-home, a tuition centre running small groups, and school-run support where a school offers extra sessions. A parent-arranged study group is a seventh option that costs nothing. Published rates read in October 2026 place budget platforms at roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, qualified online tutors at AED 150 to AED 300, in-home freelance visits at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel, and IB specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. The models differ less in price than in whether marking and a choice of tutor are included.

Which provider model gives a Dubai family the most teaching per dirham?+

Measured per contact hour, a tuition centre group class is cheapest and a premium named tutor is dearest. Measured per mark recovered, the picture reverses for a student who does not know where marks are going, because a group class cannot diagnose and the pace follows the median. The combination many families settle on is a centre class for broad coverage of a theme plus a small number of one-to-one hours with marking for script work. The single factor that most changes value is whether a marked script against the published scheme is included, not which model the provider belongs to.

Does the quoted hourly rate include marking my child's past papers?+

Ask, in writing, because the answer varies and it is the most important line in any quote. An hour of chemistry support can contain up to six pieces of work: contact time, script marking, preparation keyed to the school's unit, a written session note, a question set built on a named weakness, and administration. Budget arrangements normally contain the first only. A returned script with a number on the top and no annotation is the sign that marking is nominal. Marking a chemistry extended answer properly takes real time, because marks sit separately in method, state symbols, significant figures and explanation.

Is a pair or small-group arrangement sensible for Chemistry HL?+

Only under narrow conditions: the same level, the same point in the scheme of work, and similar current attainment. Two DP2 students at one school both losing marks on buffer calculations are a good pair and the saving is real, often bringing the cost to around 60 to 70 per cent of two separate sessions. A DP1 and a DP2 student are not a good pair even as siblings, because one waits. Nor are a grade 4 and a grade 6 student from the same class, since one needs re-teaching and the other needs harder questions. For investigation feedback we recommend separate tutors regardless.

How does tutoring spend compare with Dubai private school fees?+

Tutoring is usually the smaller line, and seeing them together helps. Dubai's private sector enrolled 387,441 pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25 with 17 curricula represented, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that fees would not rise for 2026-27 under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Against a known school fee, monthly tutoring in this market runs roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at budget level, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support, per the Bestimate Dubai rate table. The question is whether the spend produces a mark log that changes a predicted grade.

Did Dubai school fees rise for the 2026-27 year?+

No. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. The sector also expanded: seven new private schools open for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, following six openings during 2025-26 and a 6 per cent rise in enrolment. For a family budgeting Chemistry HL support, a fixed school fee makes the discretionary line easier to plan deliberately rather than reactively.

Which Chemistry HL topics are worth paying one-to-one rates for?+

The ones where a student cannot self-check. Organic mechanisms come first, because a plausible-looking arrow-pushing sequence can be wrong in ways a student cannot detect, and marks sit in charges, arrow origins and intermediates. Acid-base work with pH curves and buffers is second, since logarithmic arithmetic compounds errors silently. Energetics with entropy and spontaneity is third, where sign conventions decide whole answers. Electrode potentials and rate equations from tabulated data follow. Periodicity, bonding types and classification reward organised self-study with past papers and the data booklet, and paying specialist rates for them is poor value.

Can we pay for help with the chemistry investigation?+

You can pay for teaching and feedback, which is often the highest-value spend in the course, and you cannot pay for authorship. The investigation is 20 per cent of the grade, marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and capped at 3,000 words. A tutor may explain how each criterion is read, comment on drafts the student has produced, note that an evaluation is generic, and teach uncertainty propagation on separate data. A tutor may not choose the research question, process the student's results, restructure the document or supply text. Providers selling completed internal assessments put the Diploma itself at risk.

What does a medical-school application mean for Chemistry HL spending?+

It raises the stakes and should change the timing rather than the total. Medicine, dentistry and pharmacy programmes commonly specify chemistry, frequently at Higher Level, with a second science, and those requirements are published per programme and change between cycles. No tutoring can promise a chemistry grade, so what the spend buys is early evidence: a marked mock in the autumn of DP2 showing a grade 5 against a requirement of 6 gives a family time to adjust the application list, consider a foundation route, or concentrate hours on the two costliest topics. A term of undiagnosed sessions in the spring buys none of that.

How do we check that a tutor may legally be paid in the UAE?+

Ask for the permit rather than for reassurance. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule, so any quoted fine amount is unverified. An operation with Dubai premises needs a separate KHDA permit.

What should a tutoring agreement say about replacement and cancellation?+

Four things, in writing, before the first paid session. What the hourly figure includes, broken down into contact time, marking, preparation and notes. What notice is required to move a session and whether that notice differs in the exam term. What happens to a session paid for and not used. And what happens if the tutor turns out not to be the right match for the level and the course. Written answers to those four prevent most disputes in this market and cost nothing to obtain. We state ours before any payment, and the first lesson is free with no card details taken.

Are monthly chemistry packages better value than paying by the hour?+

Sometimes, and the test is flexibility rather than headline price. Packages advertised in Dubai include about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Eight sessions a month is a high cadence for Chemistry HL and suits a student rebuilding several topics; it suits a student who needs three or four targeted blocks much less well. Before committing, check whether unused sessions expire, whether sessions can move during mock weeks, and whether marking is included. A package that locks a family into a cadence they cannot use is not a discount.

Does an examiner-branded tutor justify the higher rate?+

Only where the status can be evidenced, and even then the advantage is narrower than the branding implies. Premium rates in this market reach AED 650 an hour. Current examining status gives no access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, and any suggestion otherwise should be treated with real scepticism. What actually predicts progress is a marked script, a mark log by topic and command word, and a tutor who has taught this course at this level recently. Those are checkable. A description on a profile is not, and we would rather a family paid mid-band for evidence than top-band for a label.

How much should a Dubai family budget for exam-term chemistry revision?+

Working from the Bestimate Dubai rate table, specialist exam-year support runs around AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above a month for weekly one-hour sessions, and a two or three session weekly intensive sits above that. The more useful budgeting move is to fix the duration. An exam-term intensive with a stated end date and full timed papers marked each week has a known total; an open arrangement does not. Booking the slot in the autumn costs the same per hour and secures availability that tightens in spring, which is the real price of waiting rather than any change in rate.

Does an online Chemistry HL hour cost less than a visiting tutor's hour?+

Usually yes, and the reason is travel. In-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including the drive, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online subject tutor and AED 200 to AED 450 and above for a specialist. The larger difference is not price but pool. An in-home arrangement narrows the choice to tutors who can reach your community on a weekday evening, which for one named subject at one level is a poor trade. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai; in-home tutoring is offered only in India, and Dubai families are taught online instead.

Price the hour, then price what the hour contains

The market bands on this page exist so a Dubai family can judge any Chemistry HL quote, ours included, against something other than the next advertisement. Ask what an hour includes, what notice moves a session, and what happens to one that is paid for and unused. Then book the free first lesson, which is spent on one marked timed question rather than on a sales conversation, and read the note that follows. If it says your child needs three topic blocks rather than a two-year arrangement, that is what it will say. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
