IGCSE Past Papers Practice in Dubai

IGCSE past papers practice in Dubai goes wrong for one reason more than any other: the student is working from the wrong paper. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers for the same subject, Cambridge runs Core and Extended tiers with different grade ceilings, and every Cambridge paper carries a variant digit tied to an administrative zone. This page starts with the code on the entry form and works outwards. Sessions run online, one to one.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Start with the code on the entry form

There are two large IGCSE boards in Dubai schools and they do not set the same examination. Cambridge International runs IGCSE with syllabus codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE with codes such as 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. Both are called IGCSE in conversation, both appear on Dubai school websites, and a past paper from one is of limited use to a candidate entered for the other. The first question in any session is therefore which code is on the entry form.

Families rarely know, and that is not a failing. Schools do not always print the code where parents look, siblings at different schools sit different boards, and a student who transferred mid-year may be entered for something other than what they were taught in Year 10. Thirty seconds of checking prevents a term of practice on the wrong paper, and it is the cheapest intervention on this page.

The second thing to establish is the tier. Cambridge splits several subjects into Core and Extended, and the two routes sit different papers and carry different grade ceilings. A student working through Extended papers while entered for Core is practising content they will not be examined on; a student on Core papers who is entered for Extended is under-preparing for the harder of the two. Pearson tiers mathematics as Foundation and Higher, with the same consequence.

The third is the variant. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and the board states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after working from the wrong zone's timetable. Papers carry a variant digit that reflects this structure. Your child's centre knows which variant it sits, and practising the right one means the question style, not just the timetable, matches.

Only after those three facts are settled does the actual work begin, and it is the same work in every subject: sit a paper under timing, mark it against the published scheme, classify every lost mark, then fix the habit rather than reread the topic. Most IGCSE losses in this market are not content losses. They are unwritten method, misread command words, imprecise biological or physical language, and the alternative-to-practical skills nobody teaches at home.

Sessions are delivered online, one to one, over live video with the script on a shared screen. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai, since that is an India-only service, and for paper work online is the practical format: annotations go onto the student's own script and stay in the file. Papers and mark schemes themselves are Cambridge and Pearson copyright, so we point at the official sources rather than distributing files.

At a glance

  • Code first: 0580 and 4MA1 are different examinations
  • Tier second: Core and Extended have different grade ceilings
  • Variant third: the centre knows which zone it sits in
  • Then marked papers, with each lost mark classified by cause
  • Online, one to one; no home visits anywhere in the UAE

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Paper practice has a different job in each school year, and buying the Year 11 version in Year 9 wastes money while buying the Year 9 version in Year 11 wastes time.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9, pre-IGCSE

No IGCSE papers exist for these years, and anyone selling them is selling the wrong thing. What transfers is the habit of checking an answer against a mark scheme rather than against a textbook, plus the algebra and the scientific vocabulary that the IGCSE papers assume without teaching.

Dubai schools run Checkpoint tests in some years, and Cambridge offers Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint in March, May and October. Those are useful as a first experience of an externally marked paper, and Year 9 is the right point to fix the habit of writing method out in full.

Year 10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE first year

Topic-level questions marked to the scheme, not whole papers. Half the syllabus is untaught, so a full paper mostly measures the gap rather than the technique. The high-value work in Year 10 is learning what the scheme pays for on the topics already covered, which compounds over the next eighteen months.

Dubai schools finalise tier decisions for Core or Extended during or at the end of Year 10, and a marked paper on taught topics is better evidence for that decision than a class test. Ask the school when the tier is confirmed and whether it can still be changed.

Year 11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE examination year

Whole papers under timing, marked and reworked, with the alternative-to-practical or practical component given its own treatment. The constraint is hours in the week across eight or nine subjects, so papers have to be allocated to the subjects where marks are actually recoverable rather than spread evenly.

Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June series with November available as the resit route. Pearson International GCSE runs in a May/June window and a November window. The February and March series that appears in search results is offered to India only, so it is not a route for a candidate sitting in Dubai.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is listed with its codes on both boards and the component where marks are most recoverable, because that is what decides which papers are worth sitting.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Method marks are the recoverable mark here. The scheme pays for a visible route to the answer, so a student who works mentally and writes one line discards marks already earned. Extended and Higher papers also reward algebraic persistence on multi-step questions rather than speed.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge assesses practical skills through a separate practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson assesses them inside the written papers. That single structural difference changes what practice is needed, and it is the most common mismatch when a family uses the wrong board's papers.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations and ionic equations with state symbols carry marks that a correct final answer does not earn on its own. Organic chemistry questions reward named conditions and reagents. Both are visible on a marked script within one paper.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

The subject most sensitive to wording. The rate of photosynthesis increases because light intensity increases earns the mark where the plant grows better earns nothing. Practice has to be done with the scheme open, because the accepted vocabulary cannot be guessed.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences

Cambridge 0654 and 0653; Pearson Science Double Award

Three sciences compressed into two or one award, with a paper pattern that differs from the separate sciences. Students entered for these are often given separate-science past papers by mistake, which over-prepares some topics and leaves others untouched.

First Language English and English Language A

Cambridge 0500; Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and reading analysis on Cambridge; a different task structure on Pearson. Marks are lost on audience, form and purpose rather than on grammar, and comparing two of the student's own timed attempts is the fastest way to see it.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A separate qualification from First Language English, with comprehension and functional writing rather than literary analysis. Entering the wrong one, or practising the wrong one, costs a grade that has nothing to do with the student's English.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455; Pearson 4BS1 and 4EC1

Application to the named business or economy in the stem is where marks concentrate, and generic textbook answers score poorly. Evaluation at the end of longer questions is the most commonly missing component on a marked script.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470; Pearson 4GE1 and 4HI1

Both reward structure over recall: case study detail with place names and figures in geography, source handling and sustained argument in history. Past paper practice works because the structures repeat across sessions in a way the content does not.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all online, chosen by what the student needs rather than by a standard package. Each produces marked scripts you keep.

Code check and diagnostic paper

A short first engagement that establishes the board, the code, the tier and the variant, then has the student sit one whole paper of that exact specification under timing. The tutor marks it to the published scheme and classifies every lost mark. For many families this one exchange reorganises a whole revision plan.

  • Board, code, tier and variant confirmed before anything is set
  • One correct-specification paper sat under real timing
  • Lost marks classified by cause, not just counted
  • A written note you can take to the school

Component clinics: practical, calculation or extended writing

Short blocks on one component rather than one subject. Cambridge Paper 6 alternative to practical, mole calculations, geography case study structure, business evaluation paragraphs. These are the highest-return hours available because the technique is narrow and the marks are concentrated in one place.

  • Three to four sessions on a single component
  • Scheme wording drilled on real questions of the right variant
  • Timed at component length rather than paper length
  • Clear end point, with what remains written down

Paper cycle across the examination term

One full paper a fortnight in the two subjects where marks are most recoverable, with topic work between them driven by the previous script. Raw marks are logged with paper references so the first and third attempts can be compared on equal terms rather than by impression.

  • A full paper every fortnight, same conditions each time
  • Raw marks logged with code, paper number and variant
  • An error log maintained by the student and audited by the tutor
  • Review at the third paper, with the plan changed if marks have not moved

That distinction matters more here than anywhere else on this site, because a tutor fluent in Cambridge 0620 structured questions is not automatically fluent in the Pearson 4CH1 paper your child is actually entered for.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Same subject, two boards, two different examinations

A Dubai household can easily contain two children both studying IGCSE Mathematics and sitting entirely different papers. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ in paper count, paper length, tier names, grade ranges and the balance between short and extended questions. Neither is harder in any general sense. They are simply different examinations, and practice on one transfers only partially to the other.

The sciences show the structural difference most clearly. Cambridge assesses practical skills through a separate component: either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, which carries its own share of the final grade. Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers rather than in a separate component. A Cambridge candidate who never practises the alternative-to-practical paper has left a fifth of the grade untouched; a Pearson candidate who spends weeks on it has prepared for a paper they will not sit.

English is where the mismatch does most damage, because the qualifications look interchangeable and are not. Cambridge First Language English and English as a Second Language are separate syllabuses with different tasks, and Pearson's English Language A has its own structure again. A student practising comprehension tasks for a paper that asks for directed writing will be fluent in the wrong skill on the day.

The table pairs the common subjects across both boards with the difference that actually changes practice. Check your child's entry form against it before buying or downloading anything, and if the school has entered different subjects with different boards, label the practice material by code from the start.

Core or Extended: the grade ceiling nobody mentions early enough

Cambridge tiering is the decision that most often surprises Dubai families, and it usually surprises them too late to change. In mathematics, Core candidates sit one paper pattern and Extended candidates another, and the two routes do not reach the same grades. The Core route has a ceiling; the Extended route has a floor below which a candidate is ungraded. That means a comfortable Core grade and a struggling Extended grade are not simply two points on one scale.

The implication for paper practice is direct. A student entered for Core should be sitting Core papers, where the questions are pitched at that content and the timing matches. Working through Extended papers builds confidence in nothing: the student meets content they will not be examined on and concludes they are weak at a subject they are in fact entered to pass comfortably. The reverse mistake leaves an Extended candidate under-practised on the hardest third of their paper.

Tier decisions are made by the school, usually during or at the end of Year 10, and there is normally a window in which they can be revised before entries are submitted. A marked paper of the correct tier is the best evidence available for that conversation, far better than a class test, because it shows performance under the real timing and the real wording. Ask the school when the tier is confirmed and what evidence it will consider.

The table compares the two routes on the points that matter for a practice plan. The last row is the one to read with your child: the right-fit signal is prior performance on the correct tier under timing, not ambition or anxiety.

03

The variant digit and the six zones

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and publishes timetables by zone. The board's own guidance states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam as a result of using the wrong one. That is as explicit a warning as an examination board ever issues, and almost nobody writing about IGCSE preparation in this market repeats it.

The same structure shows up in the papers themselves. Past papers are published with a variant digit attached to the paper number, reflecting the different versions sat across zones in the same series. Practising a different variant is not useless, because the syllabus and the mark scheme conventions are shared, but the question styles and the balance of topics do vary, and a student who has only ever seen one variant can be unsettled by another.

The practical steps are small. Ask the exam centre, which is usually your child's school, which zone it sits in and which variant its papers carry. Note that down beside the syllabus code. When selecting past papers, use that variant as the default and treat the others as additional practice. Before the series, open the live official timetable for your zone rather than a copy published on a tutoring or revision site.

The table lists the four things worth checking, where each appears, and who actually knows the answer. None of these questions costs anything to ask and all of them are easier to resolve in the first term than in the week before a paper.

Where the marks actually go, component by component

Component weightings are published in each syllabus document and they are not evenly distributed, which means revision time should not be either. In the Cambridge separate sciences, the multiple-choice component, the main theory paper and the practical component each carry a different share, with the main theory paper carrying the largest. A student spending equal time on all three is misallocating hours, and the component that most often gets neglected is the practical one.

On a marked script the losses sort into a small number of recurring types. Unwritten method in mathematics and in chemistry calculations, where the scheme pays for the route and the student supplied only the destination. Imprecise language in biology, where a correct idea in loose wording earns nothing. Missing units and significant figures in physics. Generic answers in business and economics where the question named a specific firm or economy. Missing evaluation at the end of extended responses across every essay-based subject.

None of those is a content problem, and that is the useful finding. A student who believes they do not understand chemistry, and who in fact loses most of their marks to unwritten steps and missing state symbols, needs a fortnight of habit change rather than a term of re-teaching. The marked paper is what distinguishes the two cases, and it is why the diagnostic paper comes before any plan.

The table below uses the Cambridge separate-science pattern as the worked example, because it is the most commonly mis-revised. Confirm the exact weightings for your child's code and series against the published syllabus document, since specifications are revised and a figure from an old paper set may no longer apply.

The alternative-to-practical paper, and how to practise it at home

  • Results table conventions: quantity and unit in the heading
  • Instrument precision, including the half-division convention
  • Scales that use most of the grid, and lines of best fit
  • Specific errors and specific improvements, never human error

The Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper is the most neglected component in Dubai IGCSE preparation, and the reason is understandable: it looks like a practical paper, families assume it needs a laboratory, and so it gets skipped. It does not need a laboratory. It is a written paper about practical work, and almost every mark on it is available to a student working at a desk with past papers and the mark scheme.

What it actually tests is a short list. Drawing a results table with the quantity and the unit in the heading. Reading an instrument to the precision the instrument allows, including the half-division convention on a measuring cylinder or thermometer. Choosing a scale that uses most of the grid. Plotting accurately and drawing a line of best fit rather than joining points. Identifying a specific source of error and a specific improvement, where human error and more trials earn nothing.

Each of those is trainable in minutes and is almost never taught at home, which makes this the highest-return component in the subject per hour spent. A student who has drawn fifteen results tables to the scheme's conventions will not lose those marks again. A student who has read five thermometers and five measuring cylinders at the correct precision has fixed a loss that recurs on every science paper they sit.

The practical test, where a school enters candidates for it instead, is a different proposition and does need laboratory access, which the school provides. A tutor can still work on the written elements, the planning and the error analysis, but the handling practice belongs at school. Ask which of the two components your child is entered for, because the answer changes the preparation completely.

06

How many papers, and which ones, when the week has nine subjects in it

A Year 11 student in Dubai is typically entered for eight or nine subjects, which makes time the binding constraint rather than access to papers. Spreading practice evenly across all of them produces no complete marked paper in any, which is the most common failure in a self-written revision plan. The alternative is uncomfortable and effective: rank the subjects by recoverable marks and give the top two the paper cycle.

Recoverable marks are not the same as weak grades. A subject where the student is losing marks to method and wording has high recoverable marks, because habit change is fast. A subject where whole topics are missing has low recoverable marks in the short term, because the fix is re-teaching and that takes a term. Ranking by recoverability rather than by current grade is what makes a short plan work, and it needs one marked paper per subject to establish.

A workable allocation for a Dubai Year 11 in the second term looks like this. One full paper a fortnight in each of the two highest-recoverability subjects, marked and reworked. One component clinic in a third subject, usually alternative to practical or a calculation type. Self-marked topic questions in the rest, audited by a tutor once a month. That is far fewer paid hours than most families expect and produces more marked scripts than most packages do.

Then stop adding. The point at which more papers stop helping is visible in the error log: when the same four categories of loss have been cleared and new losses are isolated rather than patterned, the remaining gains come from content revision and sleep. A tutor who says so at that point is worth keeping; one who proposes more hours is selling attendance.

07

What a session fixes, and what it cannot

A session can fix a habit quickly. Writing method, respecting a command word, using the scheme's accepted biological vocabulary, laying out a results table, converting units before substituting, putting an evaluation sentence at the end of a twelve-mark answer. These are the marks the Dubai IGCSE cohort leaves behind most consistently, and they move within two or three marked papers because the student can see the difference between their own two attempts.

A session can also fix a mis-set plan, which is often worth more than any teaching in it. Establishing the board, the code, the tier and the variant, then reallocating practice to the right papers, routinely recovers more marks than the tutoring itself. That is why the code check comes first and why it is a short engagement rather than a term commitment.

What a session cannot do is replace a term of untaught content in a fortnight, and anybody promising otherwise is describing something that does not happen. Where whole topics are missing, the honest answer is a longer plan with an explicit statement of what it will and will not reach by the series date. Families who are told that early make better decisions, including the decision to enter a subject in the November series instead.

No tutor can promise a grade, and this page carries no success rate, average grade or satisfaction figure, because none could be produced with a sample size, a date and a method. Papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge and Pearson and are referenced here rather than supplied. What is on offer is narrower and checkable: the correct specification identified, whole papers marked to the published scheme, raw marks logged, and losses classified so you can see what changed.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

The scheduling problem here is eight or nine subjects in one Year 11 week, not distance. These notes cover where the realistic paper-sitting slot falls in different parts of the city.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

British-curriculum villa communities with large Year 11 cohorts and school mocks clustered in the same fortnight. Weekend mornings fill quickly here in the second term, so a timed paper slot is worth claiming early.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills

Long internal drives and a heavy co-curricular calendar, which tends to push the two-hour sitting to Saturday morning and the rework session to a weekday evening. That split works well and should be planned rather than improvised.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Short school runs make a 16:30 weekday start realistic, which is unusual in Dubai. Useful for Paper 6 and alternative-to-practical work, which needs only an hour rather than a full paper slot.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Eastern communities with long commutes to several British schools, so weekday timed papers rarely hold. Families here get more from one well-run weekend paper a fortnight than from three cancelled weekday attempts.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Sports City

Apartment communities with many mid-year arrivals, which produces the specific risk this page is about: a student taught one board in Year 10 and entered for another in Year 11. Check the entry form rather than the school's website.

Deira, Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Dense school provision, older campuses, and households with children across both Cambridge and Pearson entries. Two boards in one home is normal here, and it is worth labelling the practice folders by code.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Photograph the entry form

The statement of entry carries the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject, and the school exams officer can confirm the zone and variant. One photograph settles the questions that decide which papers are worth sitting, and it prevents the single most expensive error in IGCSE revision.

  2. 02

Sit one paper of the exact specification

Correct board, correct code, correct tier, correct variant where possible, sat under full timing in one go with no notes. Then self-mark against the published scheme before anyone else sees it. That self-marking is where the student first meets what the scheme actually pays for.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on that script

A real session with the tutor who would continue, no card details taken beforehand, spent on the student's own marked paper. It ends with the losses classified by cause, a ranking of which subjects have the most recoverable marks, and a proposed number of sessions with an end date.

  4. 04

Run the cycle in two subjects, not nine

One full paper a fortnight in the two highest-recoverability subjects, with topic work between them driven by the last script and a component clinic in a third subject. Raw marks are logged with code, paper number and variant so the first and third attempts compare on equal terms.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The code comes before the tutor

Matching starts from the syllabus code on the entry form rather than the subject name, because 0580 and 4MA1 are different examinations. In a city where siblings commonly sit different boards, this one check prevents a term of practice on the wrong paper.

Tier and variant treated as facts, not details

Core and Extended reach different grades, and Cambridge warns that the wrong zone timetable can cost a candidate an exam. Both are written down beside the code at the start, and papers are selected against them rather than by what is easiest to find.

The practical component is not skipped

The alternative-to-practical paper is a written paper that needs no laboratory and carries a real share of the grade, and it is the most neglected component in this market. Fifteen results tables drawn to the scheme's conventions fixes a loss permanently.

Two subjects done properly beats nine done thinly

Subjects are ranked by recoverable marks rather than by current grade, and the paper cycle goes to the top two. That produces complete marked scripts instead of a term of partial attempts spread across an entire timetable.

Official sources referenced, nothing distributed

Cambridge and Pearson own the papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents, and we link them rather than send them. That also protects your child from practising a superseded specification from a retyped file, which is the real risk of the free aggregator sites.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How do I find out which syllabus code my child is actually sitting?+

The statement of entry or exam entry form lists the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject, and the school exams officer can confirm all three plus the centre's zone. Do not rely on the school website, which often names subjects without codes, or on what was taught in Year 10, because entries can change. One photograph of the entry form settles it. This matters because Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are both called IGCSE Mathematics and set different papers of different lengths with different tier structures.

What does the variant number on a Cambridge past paper mean?+

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes different versions of papers and timetables across them. The variant digit attached to a paper number reflects that structure. Practising another variant is not wasted, since the syllabus and mark scheme conventions are shared, but topic balance and question styles vary, so a student who has only seen one variant can be unsettled by another. Ask the centre which variant it sits, and use the live official timetable for your zone rather than a copy from a revision site.

Are Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel past papers interchangeable?+

Only partially, and the gaps matter. The subject content overlaps heavily, so a Pearson chemistry paper is not useless to a Cambridge candidate, but paper lengths, question formats, tier structures and mark scheme conventions all differ. The clearest example is practical science: Cambridge assesses it through a separate practical test or alternative-to-practical paper, while Pearson assesses it inside the written papers. A Cambridge candidate using only Pearson material will never practise a component worth a real share of their grade.

What is the highest grade my child can get on the Core tier?+

Core is capped below the top grades, which is the fact families most often discover too late to act on. Extended reaches the top grades but has a floor, below which a candidate is ungraded rather than awarded a low pass. That means a secure Core grade and a struggling Extended grade are not two points on one scale. Ask the school when the tier is confirmed, whether it can still be changed, and what evidence it will consider, then give it a marked paper of the correct tier sat under timing.

How do we practise the alternative-to-practical paper without a laboratory?+

You do not need one. It is a written paper about practical work, and nearly every mark is available at a desk with past papers and the mark scheme. The skills are specific: results tables with quantity and unit in the heading, reading an instrument to the precision it allows including the half-division convention, choosing a scale that fills the grid, plotting and drawing a line of best fit, and naming a specific source of error with a specific improvement. Human error and do more trials earn nothing on this paper.

Does Pearson Edexcel International GCSE have a separate practical paper?+

No. Pearson assesses practical understanding within the written papers rather than through a separate practical test or alternative-to-practical component. That is the single structural difference most likely to derail a revision plan built with the wrong board's material. A Pearson candidate spending weeks on Cambridge alternative-to-practical papers is preparing for an examination they will not sit, while still needing the practical understanding that appears inside their own written papers. Confirm the component list for your child's code with the school before allocating any revision time.

How many papers should my child sit per IGCSE subject?+

Three complete papers, properly marked, usually reveal everything a fourth would. The far more common error is the opposite: eight or nine subjects given one partial paper each, so no subject gets a full diagnosis. Rank subjects by recoverable marks rather than by current grade, and give the paper cycle to the top two. A subject losing marks to method and wording has high recoverability and improves in a fortnight; a subject with whole topics missing needs re-teaching and a longer plan.

What does modular entry mean with Pearson Edexcel?+

On some Pearson International GCSE specifications, assessment can be taken in stages across more than one series rather than all at the end, which is what modular means in this context. Availability differs by subject and changes over time, so it is a question for your child's school exams officer rather than something to assume from a general description. Where it is available, it changes the revision calendar substantially, because a paper sat earlier is a paper that cannot be improved later without a resit, and plans have to be built around that.

My child's answers look right but the marks are low. What is going wrong?+

Almost always one of five recurring losses rather than missing knowledge. Unwritten method in mathematics and chemistry calculations, where the scheme pays for the route and only the answer was supplied. Imprecise wording in biology, where a loose but correct idea earns nothing. Missing units or significant figures in physics. Generic answers where the question named a specific firm, place or economy. And no evaluation sentence at the end of an extended response. All five are habits, and all five move within two or three marked papers.

Will you give us a folder of IGCSE past papers and mark schemes?+

No. Cambridge and Pearson own those papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents, and distributing them is not ours to do. The practical reason matters more to your child than the legal one: material passed around privately is often from a superseded specification or retyped with errors, and a student who learns the accepted mark scheme wording from a flawed copy has learned the wrong thing. The school is the first and best source, and both boards publish official material through their own channels.

Should my child move between Core and Extended before entries close?+

Treat it as an evidence question rather than a confidence question. Have the student sit a full paper of each tier under proper timing, marked to the scheme, and look at the raw marks and the pattern of losses. A student scoring comfortably on Extended with losses that are all method and wording usually belongs there. A student who is running out of time and leaving whole questions blank on Extended may be better served by a secure Core grade. The school owns the decision, so bring it the marked papers.

Do your tutors come to homes in Jumeirah or Arabian Ranches for paper sessions?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE, since that is an India-only service, and all sessions are delivered online over live video. For paper work this is the format that actually suits the task. The student's own script is shared on screen and annotated live, the annotations stay in the file, and raw marks accumulate in one place across the term. It also means the tutor is chosen for knowing your child's specification rather than for living within driving distance of your community.

Is it too late to start paper practice halfway through Year 11?+

No, but the plan has to narrow. With a full term left, two subjects can run a complete paper cycle and a third can take a component clinic, which is a realistic and useful amount. With six weeks left, the honest version is one diagnostic paper per priority subject, then habit work on the losses it exposes, with no promise of covering untaught content. Being told which of those two situations you are in, in writing, is more useful than being sold the same package either way.

Which IGCSE subjects do UAE students lose the most marks in?+

On marked scripts the recurring losses cluster in a few places rather than in whole subjects. The science practical component, because it is assumed to need a laboratory and gets skipped. Mathematics method marks, because able students work mentally. Biology wording, because the accepted vocabulary cannot be guessed. Business and economics application, because generic textbook answers ignore the named context in the stem. And evaluation at the end of extended responses across every essay subject. None of those is a content weakness, which is why they are worth attacking first.

Can one tutor cover two children sitting different boards?+

For the same subject, sometimes, but it should be asked rather than assumed. A tutor who genuinely teaches both Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 can work with both children, provided the practice material and mark scheme conventions are kept separate and labelled by code. Where the tutor knows one board well and the other loosely, two tutors serve the children better. Households in Dubai with children at different schools frequently sit different boards, so labelling folders by code from the start saves a great deal of confusion later.

Photograph the entry form first

Before any revision timetable, any download and any tutoring, find the statement of entry and note four things per subject: board, syllabus code, tier, and the centre's zone or variant. Then have your child sit one paper of exactly that specification under full timing and self-mark it against the published scheme. Book the free trial lesson and spend it on that script. By the end you should know which losses are habits and which are content, which two subjects have the most recoverable marks, and how many sessions the plan needs with an end date on it. Everything else follows from the code.
