IB Retake Tutor in Dubai

An IB retake tutor in Dubai is usually hired in the fortnight after results, when the decision still looks like one question and is actually four: which subjects, which components, what it costs, and whether the offer at the other end survives the delay. This page answers the cost question in AED first. All sessions are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What a retake costs, in money and in months

The first thing to establish is the size of the bill, because it decides everything else. A retake carries three separate costs. There is the examination registration itself, which is set by the IB and administered through a school or an authorised centre, and which your school's Diploma coordinator will quote: we do not publish a figure for it because the amount depends on the centre and the number of subjects, and an invented number here would be worse than none. There is tutoring, which is the part this page can price from published market data. And there is the opportunity cost of the months, which is usually the largest of the three and almost never counted.

On tutoring, published Dubai market rates read in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to 300 an hour and IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and one premium provider AED 650. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. Bestimate's Dubai monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A retake in two subjects across a six-month run therefore sits in a predictable range, and the right way to budget it is monthly.

Those are market figures, not IB Gram's price list, and they are published here because most pages ranking for Dubai IB queries publish no price at all. What they tell a family is useful: the tutoring cost of a focused two-subject retake is usually smaller than parents fear, and considerably smaller than a repeated school year. The expensive part of a retake is rarely the teaching.

The second thing to establish is scope, and this is where money is most often wasted. A retake is not a repeat of the Diploma. Candidates retake individual subjects, and within a subject the written papers are re-sat while the internally assessed work may in some circumstances be carried forward rather than redone. The rules on what can be carried forward and for how many sessions are set by the IB and administered by your coordinator, so confirm your own case with them before paying for anything. A plan built on the wrong assumption here wastes months.

Every UAE session runs one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For retake work that matters because the candidate is often no longer at school, sometimes no longer in Dubai, and needs a specialist in one specific component rather than a general tutor nearby.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A retake decision depends on which part of the Diploma fell short. Here is how each component behaves when a candidate goes again.

DPAges 16-19 and beyond

Diploma Programme subjects

Each of the six subjects can be retaken separately, and most candidates retake one or two rather than all. The written papers are re-sat in a later session; internally assessed components follow the IB's carry-forward rules as administered by the centre.

Dubai candidates usually retake through their own school, which continues to act as the registering centre after graduation in many cases. Where a school will not or cannot register a former student, the coordinator can point to the process for registering through another centre, and that question should be asked in the first week after results.

COREAges 16-19 and beyond

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Both are externally assessed and contribute up to three points through the published matrix. A candidate short on points sometimes finds the cheapest available improvement here rather than in a subject, and the work is writing to criteria rather than re-sitting papers.

Core components are the most overlooked part of a Dubai retake plan. A candidate one or two points short of an offer should ask the coordinator what the core contributed and whether either component is in scope for resubmission, before committing to months of subject revision.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

CP candidates sitting DP courses retake those courses on the same basis, with the career-related study and reflective project following the programme's own rules. The smaller subject load usually makes a focused retake simpler to plan.

Few UAE schools run the CP, so CP retake candidates in Dubai often find generic retake advice does not apply to their situation. The coordinator at the original school is the only reliable source on what a CP retake involves for that candidate.

RESULTImmediately after results

Enquiry upon results, before any retake

Before committing to a retake there is a separate route: asking for a re-mark or a clerical check through the school within the IB's published deadlines. It is cheaper and faster than a retake and sometimes resolves the problem entirely.

The deadlines for this are short and run from the results release, so it is the first conversation to have rather than the second. Dubai coordinators handle these requests routinely, and a candidate two marks below a grade boundary should always ask about it before pricing a retake.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every subject responds to a six-month retake run at the same speed. Below is what can realistically change in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Responds well to a retake run if the losses were technique: unwritten method, the final parts of long questions, non-calculator fluency. Genuine content gaps across calculus take longer than one session cycle.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistical interpretation and modelling justification improve quickly with marked practice. The exploration, where in scope, is a second lever because its criteria are published and learnable.

Chemistry

HL and SL

A heavy content load makes a full re-learn impractical in a short window, but targeted work on Paper 2 extended responses and organic mechanisms produces measurable movement.

Biology

HL and SL

One of the better retake subjects, because most lost marks are command-term shape rather than missing content. A candidate who learns the required answer structures can move a grade without learning new material.

Physics

HL and SL

Data-booklet discipline, uncertainty treatment and significant figures are quick wins. Fields and induction gaps need sustained work, so a retake plan usually prioritises the former.

Economics

HL and SL

Among the fastest subjects to improve in a retake window. Diagram accuracy and a supported evaluation move whole mark bands, and both are teachable within weeks.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis responds to marked timed practice. The oral and HL essay components are constrained by the centre's arrangements, so confirm with the coordinator what is in scope.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study technique improves quickly once the candidate applies tools to the stimulus rather than reciting them. A good retake subject for a candidate short by one grade.

Psychology

HL and SL

Narrowing the study bank and learning a smaller set precisely is a few weeks of work with a clear mark effect, which makes this a practical subject to add to a retake plan.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Where resubmission is in scope, work is feedback on the candidate's own claims, counterclaims and examples against published criteria. Core points can decide an offer and cost less to pursue than a subject grade.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Retake support comes in three shapes, priced very differently. All three are one-to-one over live video.

Decision session

One session before any commitment, working from the results statement and component breakdown. The output is a recommendation: retake these components, ask about a re-mark first, or do not retake at all. Families frequently find this session saves them the cost of the plan it was meant to design.

  • Results statement read component by component
  • Re-mark route considered first
  • Costs set out in AED before any booking
  • Includes the case for not retaking

Two-subject focused run

The common shape: weekly sessions in one or two subjects across the months before the next session, aimed at the specific components that lost marks. Marked practice between sessions, with the plan reviewed against evidence at the halfway point.

  • Component-level targets, not whole syllabuses
  • Timed papers marked between sessions
  • Monthly cost agreed at the start
  • Paused deliberately around travel or work

Core and single-component block

A short block where the gap is one or two points and the cheapest route is a core component or a single paper rather than a subject grade. Often three to six sessions in total, and frequently the best value available to a candidate just short of an offer.

  • Used when the gap is one or two points
  • Criteria read with the candidate
  • Writing remains entirely the candidate's own
  • Lowest total cost of the three shapes

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Pricing a Dubai retake honestly

A retake budget has three lines and most families only see one. The registration cost is set by the IB and administered by the centre, and your Diploma coordinator will quote it for your specific subject count; we publish no figure for it because it varies by centre and an invented number would be worse than silence. The tutoring line can be priced from published market data. The third line, the months, is the one that decides whether the first two are worth paying.

The tutoring figures below are other providers' published Dubai rates read in October 2026. Read them as a monthly commitment rather than an hourly one, because a retake run is measured in months. A two-subject plan at one weekly hour each, at the specialist band, lands in Bestimate's AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above monthly range for exam-year specialist support; the same plan in the mid band lands nearer AED 600 to 1,200. Across a five or six-month run those are materially different totals, and the right band depends on whether the work is content or mark-scheme level.

Three variables move the number. Subject count is the first and the one families control most directly: two subjects costs roughly twice one, and candidates frequently plan to retake more subjects than their results statement justifies. Level is the second, with Higher Level sciences and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at the top of every band. Component is the third: work on one paper is cheaper than work across a whole subject, and a results statement broken down by component shows whether that narrower option exists.

The useful comparison is not between tutoring providers. It is between a retake and the alternatives: accepting a different offer, taking a foundation route, deferring, or applying again with the same grades to institutions where they are sufficient. A retake that costs several months and a four-figure sum in AED to move one subject by one grade may be worth it for a medicine applicant and clearly not worth it for someone whose target course would have accepted the original result.

What carries forward and what must be re-sat

This is the question that decides the size of the job, and the answer is specific to the candidate. In general terms, a retake candidate re-sits the written papers for the subjects they are retaking in a later session, while internally assessed work may in some circumstances be carried forward from the original session rather than produced again. The rules on which components can be carried forward, for how many sessions, and under what conditions are set by the IB and administered by the registering centre.

That means the authoritative answer comes from your Diploma coordinator and from current IB documentation, not from a tutoring page. We say that plainly because the cost of getting it wrong is months: a candidate who assumes an Internal Assessment must be redone may spend half the run on a component that was already banked, and a candidate who assumes the opposite may arrive at a deadline with nothing to submit.

Ask the coordinator four things in the first conversation. Which components for each retake subject must be re-sat. Which may be carried forward, and whether that is automatic or requested. What the registration deadline is for the next session. And whether the school will act as the registering centre for a former student. Those four answers, written down, are the foundation of any retake plan worth paying for.

The table below sets out the shape of the question rather than the rules themselves, which belong to the IB. Use it as the list to take to the coordinator meeting, and write their answers in the right-hand column before any tutoring is booked.

03

Deciding whether to retake at all

The most valuable thing we do on this page is talk some families out of a retake. A retake makes sense when a specific, named outcome depends on a specific, identifiable grade change that the evidence suggests is achievable. It makes much less sense as a general response to disappointment, and that is the version that most often gets bought in the fortnight after results.

Start with the results statement broken down by component, which the coordinator can obtain. A candidate who missed a grade by a mark or two in one paper is in a different position from one who was well below across all components. The first is a strong retake case and may even be a re-mark case. The second usually means the underlying learning was not there, and five months of tutoring at specialist rates may still not reach the target.

Then establish what the grade is actually for. Universities differ enormously: some will accept the original offer after a short conversation, some hold places for a year, some require a fresh application cycle, and some will not consider a retake candidate for competitive programmes at all. That is a question for the admissions office in writing, not for a tutoring provider or a forum, and the answer sometimes makes the whole decision for you.

The decision matrix below is the one we use in a first session. It is deliberately blunt, because a retake consumes months that cannot be returned and the cost of a wrong decision is much larger than the cost of the tutoring that follows it.

04

Planning a retake run backwards from the session

  • Confirm the session and the registration deadline with the coordinator first
  • Close the content phase before the final six weeks
  • Finish with full papers under timed conditions, marked
  • Use daytime availability if the candidate has left school

The IB runs two examination sessions a year, in May and November, and UAE schools sit the May session as standard. A retake candidate chooses a session and then works backwards. We do not publish specific IB session or results dates on these pages, because the IB's own site is the authoritative source and the coordinator holds the centre's version; any date we restated could be revised without this page noticing.

The order, though, is stable and worth planning around. Registration closes well before the session. Where internally assessed work is in scope, its submission deadline sits months before the papers. Revision rotation needs to finish with several full papers under timed conditions, which means the content work has to be done before the final weeks rather than during them. A plan that arrives at the last month still teaching content has already failed.

A six-month run divides naturally into three phases. The first six to eight weeks are content repair on the specific topics the component breakdown identified. The middle phase is mixed: topic work plus timed questions, with marking in between so the pattern is visible. The final six weeks are full-paper rotation under exam conditions, with the content work closed off. Candidates who invert that order, leaving papers until the end without having practised them, find out too late that pacing is the problem.

Two Dubai-specific notes. Retake candidates are often no longer on a school timetable, which frees daytime hours and widens specialist availability considerably, and the better plans use that rather than defaulting to evening slots. And Ramadan will fall inside most retake runs: shortened days, a different rhythm, and sessions commonly moving to a post-Iftar time, which candidates frequently prefer.

05

What actually improves in five months, and what does not

A retake run is long enough to change technique completely and not always long enough to rebuild a subject. Knowing which applies is the difference between a plan that works and one that spends five months confirming the first result. The component breakdown from the results statement is what tells you, which is why we ask for it before anything else.

Technique moves fast. Unwritten method in Mathematics and Physics, command-term mismatch in Biology, missing evaluation in Economics and Business, imprecise reference in English: all of those are patterned losses that respond to marked practice within weeks. A candidate whose breakdown shows good coverage and poor execution is the ideal retake case, and often needs fewer sessions than they expect.

Content rebuilds slowly, and honesty here saves money. A Higher Level Chemistry candidate who was weak across organic chemistry, energetics and equilibrium is looking at most of a syllabus, and five months at one hour a week will not cover it. Either the hours go up substantially, or the plan narrows to the papers where the most marks are recoverable, or the retake is the wrong instrument. We say which of those we think applies rather than taking the booking and discovering it in March.

The third category is components whose availability is constrained rather than academic: oral assessments, performance work, practical arrangements for a former student. Those are centre questions, and if the answer is that the arrangement is not available, no amount of teaching changes the outcome. Ask early, because the answer can rule a subject out of the plan entirely.

06

Why retake support works better online in the UAE

Retake candidates are the clearest case for online delivery in this entire market. They often have no school timetable, they are frequently travelling or working, their need is one or two specific components rather than a general subject, and their deadline is fixed. The right tutor is defined by knowing that component, and in Dubai the chance that such a person also lives within a reasonable drive of a given community is small.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. All UAE sessions run one-to-one over live video, consistent with every other country page on this site. For a retake run that also solves the continuity problem: a candidate who spends August abroad, or who moves cities mid-run, keeps the same tutor and the same plan. In-home arrangements pause when either party moves, and on a five-month run with a fixed session date those pauses are expensive.

The published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour carry travel inside them, and across a long run that is a significant sum spent on movement rather than teaching. Monthly in-home packages appear in the market at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits, against around AED 799 for eight online sessions. For a candidate paying for their own retake, that difference is often the difference between two subjects and one.

Where in-home genuinely helps is with a candidate who cannot self-direct at all, and for whom someone arriving at the door is the only reliable mechanism for getting work done. That is a real situation. It is also one worth naming honestly rather than solving with a tutoring purchase, because a five-month retake run requires independent study between sessions regardless of how the sessions are delivered.

07

Honesty, re-marks and what nobody can promise

  • No grade or points guarantee, from us or from anyone
  • Assessed work is taught and reviewed, never written for the candidate
  • Ask about an enquiry upon results before pricing a retake
  • Session dates come from the IB and your coordinator, not from this page

Three cautions belong on any retake page. The first is that no provider can guarantee a grade or a points total. Grade boundaries are set after each session and move with the paper, and examination performance varies on the day. Any guarantee is either a conditional refund arrangement or an unhonourable claim, and we offer neither.

The second concerns internally assessed work. Where an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay is being produced or resubmitted, it must be the candidate's own work. A tutor can explain criteria, interrogate a research question, teach a technique and give feedback on a draft the candidate wrote. A tutor cannot write it or edit it to completion. At least one provider ranking for UAE IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments at around AED 3,750; for a retake candidate, a malpractice finding would end the attempt it was meant to rescue.

The third is that the re-mark route should always be considered before the retake route. An enquiry upon results is cheaper, faster, and handled through the school within short published deadlines that run from results release. A candidate one or two marks below a boundary should ask about it in the first days, not after a month of deciding. Coordinators in Dubai handle these requests routinely.

Finally, on documents: we link to official IB material rather than redistributing subject guides, mark schemes or grade boundary tables, and we do not publish IB session dates because ibo.org is the authoritative source and the coordinator holds the centre's version. A page that restates exam dates it cannot maintain is a page that will eventually tell a candidate the wrong thing.

08

Starting a retake plan in the fortnight after results

Send three things: the results statement, the component breakdown if the coordinator has provided it, and the specific outcome the retake is meant to achieve, named precisely. 'A better score' is not a target. 'Grade 6 in Chemistry HL, because the offer requires it and the university has confirmed it will consider a November retake' is, and it makes every later decision obvious.

The first session is a decision session rather than a lesson. We read the breakdown, consider whether a re-mark should come first, identify which components are in scope, and say what we think the realistic outcome is. Sometimes the answer is that one subject is worth retaking and the second is not. Sometimes it is that the retake is the wrong instrument altogether, and we would rather say that in the first hour than sell five months.

The trial lesson is free and carries no condition beyond booking a time. For retake candidates it is usually most useful spent on a real question from the paper that lost the marks, because that is the fastest way to find out whether the problem is technique or content, and the two carry very different costs.

After that the plan is monthly, costed in advance, and reviewed at the halfway point against marked work rather than impressions. If the evidence says the target is out of reach, we say so with enough time left for the candidate to choose a different path. On a retake, that warning is worth more than the sessions it ends.

Where we tutor

Where retake candidates in Dubai are based

Retake candidates are often between institutions, sometimes travelling, and rarely on a school timetable. Below is how that plays out across Dubai.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Candidates here are usually retaking to protect a specific overseas offer, so the plan is driven by the university's deadline rather than by the session calendar.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Internationally mobile households. Retake candidates frequently travel during the run, which makes a recurring online slot the only workable arrangement.

Al Barsha and Dubai Science Park

Several Diploma schools nearby, and candidates often retake through their original school. The coordinator relationship matters more than proximity to a tutor.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Graduates here are commonly working or interning during a retake run, so sessions sit in the evening and the plan has to tolerate an irregular week.

Mirdif and Al Qusais

More candidates applying to UAE institutions, where the relevant deadline is later and the retake plan has more room than an overseas one.

Dubai Hills Estate

Younger cohorts with United States applications in play. Retake planning here often runs alongside a reapplication cycle rather than a deferral.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

Villa communities where a retake candidate is often at home full time. Weekday daytime sessions become possible, which widens the specialist options considerably.

Downtown and Business Bay

Short commutes and compressed weeks. Requests arrive quickly after results and the first question is almost always the total cost.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai schools that commonly register retake candidates

A retake is registered through a school or authorised centre, and the original school is usually the first place to ask. Established Diploma schools handle these requests routinely and can explain what is in scope for a given candidate.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Deira International School
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches

Where to ask when the original school cannot register you

Not every school will register a former student, and some candidates have left the country. The coordinator at the original school can describe the route to registering through another centre, and that question belongs in the first week after results rather than later.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Greenfield International School

Schools are named only as local context for candidates asking about registration routes in Dubai; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Get the component breakdown

Ask the Diploma coordinator for the results broken down by component. It is the document that tells you whether a retake is about one paper, one subject or the whole programme, and the three cost very different amounts.

  2. 02

    Ask about a re-mark first

An enquiry upon results runs through the school within short deadlines from results release. It is cheaper and faster than a retake, and for a candidate a mark or two below a boundary it should be the first call rather than the second.

  3. 03

    Settle scope with the coordinator

Which papers must be re-sat, what may be carried forward, when registration closes, and whether the school will register a former candidate. Those four answers are the foundation of any plan worth paying for.

  4. 04

Name the outcome the retake is for

A specific grade, in a specific subject, for a specific offer that the institution has confirmed it will consider. Without that, a retake is months spent against an undefined target.

  5. 05

Cost it monthly, then review at the halfway point

The plan is priced per month at the outset and tested against marked work in the middle of the run. If the target is out of reach, we say so while there is still time to choose a different route.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The costs come first

Registration, tutoring and months, set out before a session is booked. Market tutoring figures are published with their source, and we give no figure for registration because the centre sets it and an invented number would mislead.

Scope narrowed to components

A retake is rarely a repeat of a year. Work is aimed at the papers and components the breakdown identifies, which is usually smaller and cheaper than families assume when they call.

We say when not to retake

If the target course would accept the existing result, or will not consider retake candidates, or if the breakdown shows the learning was not there, we say so in the first session rather than after five months.

Built for candidates without a timetable

Retake candidates often have daytime availability, travel mid-run, or have left Dubai. A recurring online slot keeps the same specialist and the same plan through all of that.

The re-mark route is raised first

An enquiry upon results is cheaper and faster than a retake and sometimes resolves the problem completely. Deadlines are short, so we raise it before any discussion of sessions.

No guarantees, no claimed approvals

Nobody can promise a grade, and we do not. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry or IB endorsement and claims none, and we publish no statistic without a source.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB retake cost in Dubai altogether?+

Three lines. Examination registration is set by the IB and administered through the centre, and your Diploma coordinator will quote it for your subject count; we publish no figure because it varies and an invented one would mislead. Tutoring at published Dubai market rates read in October 2026 runs AED 150 to 300 an hour in the mid band and AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists, which Bestimate's monthly estimates put at AED 600 to 1,200 and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above respectively. The third line is the months, which is usually the largest cost and the least counted.

Do I have to retake the whole Diploma or just one subject?+

Retakes are by subject, and most candidates retake one or two rather than all six. Within a subject, the written papers are re-sat in a later session, and internally assessed work may in some circumstances be carried forward rather than produced again. The rules on what carries forward, for how long and on what basis are set by the IB and administered by the registering centre, so confirm your own case with the Diploma coordinator before paying for anything. Planning on the wrong assumption here is the most common way a retake run wastes months.

Should I ask for a re-mark before deciding to retake?+

Yes, if you are close to a boundary. An enquiry upon results runs through the school within published deadlines that start from the results release, and it is cheaper and faster than a retake. A candidate one or two marks below a grade should ask in the first days rather than after a month of deliberation, because the deadlines are short. Dubai coordinators handle these requests routinely. It sometimes resolves the problem entirely, which makes it the first call rather than a fallback after the retake plan is already paid for.

Will my university still consider me if I retake?+

It varies enormously and you need the answer in writing from the admissions office, not from a forum or a tutoring provider. Some institutions will hold a place for a year, some will accept a short conversation and keep the original offer, some require a fresh application cycle, and some will not consider retake candidates for competitive programmes at all. That answer sometimes makes the whole decision for you, which is why we ask for it before designing a plan. It costs nothing to ask and it can save five months.

How many months does a realistic retake run need?+

Five to six is the usual shape, divided into three phases: content repair on the specific topics the breakdown identified, then mixed topic and timed work with marking in between, then full-paper rotation under exam conditions in the final six weeks. The order matters. Candidates who leave full papers until the last fortnight discover pacing problems too late to fix them. A shorter run can work where the losses were purely technical, and a longer one is needed where content was weak across a whole syllabus.

Which subjects are realistic to improve in one retake cycle?+

Economics, Business Management, Biology and Psychology move fastest, because their lost marks are usually structural: missing evaluation, command-term mismatch, imprecise study detail. Mathematics improves quickly where the losses were unwritten method or the final parts of long questions, and slowly where calculus content was never secure. Higher Level Chemistry and Physics are the hardest to rebuild in one cycle because of content volume, so plans in those subjects usually narrow to the papers where most marks are recoverable rather than attempting the whole syllabus.

Can a retake candidate still gain the three core points?+

Core points come from the published matrix combining Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay grades, and whether either is in scope for a retake candidate depends on the candidate's circumstances and the centre's arrangements. It is worth asking early, because a candidate one or two points short of an offer sometimes finds the cheapest available route is a core component rather than months of subject revision. The coordinator is the authoritative source. If resubmission is in scope, the work is writing to published criteria, which is tractable and short.

Is a retake worth it if I was below target in all six subjects?+

Usually not within a single session. A results statement that is well below target across every component generally means the underlying learning was not secure, and five months of weekly tutoring will not rebuild six subjects. The honest options then are a longer plan, a narrower retake on two subjects where the most marks are recoverable, or a different route altogether such as a foundation programme or an alternative course. We would rather set that out in the first session than take a booking that the evidence does not support.

Do you provide a tutor at home in Dubai for a retake?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE tutoring one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. Retake candidates are the clearest case for the online format: they often have no school timetable, frequently travel or work during the run, and need a specialist in one or two specific components rather than a general tutor nearby. Published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour also carry travel inside them, which across a five-month run is a large sum spent on movement rather than teaching.

Can I keep my original Internal Assessment mark?+

In some circumstances internally assessed work can be carried forward rather than produced again, but the conditions are set by the IB and administered by the registering centre, so this is a question for your Diploma coordinator rather than for a tutoring page. Ask whether it is automatic or has to be requested, and get the answer in writing before planning. A candidate who assumes the Internal Assessment must be redone may spend half the run on work that was already banked, and the reverse mistake is worse.

What if my old school will not register me for the session?+

Ask the coordinator anyway, because they can usually explain the route to registering through another school or authorised centre. This belongs in the first week after results rather than later, since registration deadlines sit well before the session and a candidate without a registering centre has no plan at all, whatever tutoring is in place. Some Dubai schools register former students routinely and others do not, so the answer is institution-specific and worth getting early and in writing.

How do sessions work if I am working or travelling during the run?+

They continue, which is the practical argument for the online format. Retake candidates are frequently working, interning or abroad for part of the run, and a recurring slot over live video keeps the same specialist and the same plan through all of it. Candidates no longer at school also have daytime availability, which widens the specialist options considerably compared with evening-only slots. Ramadan falls inside most retake runs, and sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar time, which many candidates prefer.

Can anyone promise the grade I need on a retake?+

No. Grade boundaries are set after each session and move with the difficulty of the paper, and performance on the day varies for reasons nobody controls. Any guarantee in this market is either a conditional refund arrangement with terms buried somewhere or a claim that cannot be honoured. What a retake plan can do is remove the predictable losses that the component breakdown identified. That is the part anyone can act on, and it is the part we price and plan against.

What is the single biggest mistake retake candidates make in Dubai?+

Deciding in the first week of disappointment rather than in the second week with the component breakdown in hand. The breakdown changes the decision more often than not: it reveals that one paper rather than one subject lost the marks, or that the gap is in the core, or that the shortfall was broad enough to make a one-session retake unrealistic. The second most common mistake is not asking the university what it will accept before committing, which is a free question with a decisive answer.

Price it, scope it, then decide

A retake is three costs and one decision. Send the results statement, the component breakdown if you have it, and the specific grade the retake is meant to achieve, and the first session will tell you whether a re-mark should come first, which components are in scope, what a realistic plan costs per month at market specialist rates, and whether we think the target is reachable. If it is not, we will say so while there is still time to choose another route. The trial lesson is free, one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.
