IGCSE Resit Tutor in Dubai

An IGCSE resit tutor in Dubai is worth hiring only once two documents exist: the component breakdown that shows where the marks went, and confirmation of which centre will enter your child for the November series. This page is about evidence - what a marked paper proves, what moves a grade, and what to check each month. Sessions are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Plan built from the component breakdown, not the grade
  • Entry route confirmed before any sessions are booked
  • Grade movement checked monthly against marked papers
  • Free trial lesson on the paper that lost the marks

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

A resit plan stands on two documents

The first document is the statement of results broken down by component. A grade alone tells you almost nothing about whether a resit will move it. A breakdown tells you which paper lost the marks, how far below the boundary the candidate sat, and whether the shortfall was spread evenly or concentrated in one component. Those three facts decide whether a resit is a five-week job, a five-month job, or the wrong instrument altogether. Your school's examinations officer can obtain the breakdown, and it is the first thing to ask for rather than the second.

The second document is written confirmation of the entry route. A resit has to be entered through a school or a registered examination centre, and not every Dubai school will enter a former student. Several centres in the emirate accept private candidates, and the practical questions are which boards they offer, whether they can accommodate a subject with a practical or coursework component, and what the entry deadline is. Verify all of that directly with the centre, because availability and board coverage differ and change.

Once both documents exist, the work is narrow. Resit candidates rarely need a whole course retaught. They need the specific marks the breakdown identified, recovered through marked practice on the board's own papers. The habit this page argues for is evidencing that movement month by month: a marked paper at the start, a marked paper in the middle, a marked paper near the end, with the mark on each recorded. A resit plan without that trail is a plan running on hope.

Dubai adds two practical factors. The June series is the main UAE sitting and November is the resit route, with results from a November series reaching students in the following January: Pearson's record shows November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. That timing matters if a sixth-form place or a Ministry of Education equivalency submission depends on the grade, because the gap between sitting and result is months rather than weeks. Confirm the current series timetable from the board's own page rather than from any restated date.

One more decision belongs at the start, which is how many subjects go into the plan. Most resit candidates are carrying something else at the same time: a sixth-form timetable, a Diploma, or a job. Spreading the available hours across three subjects reliably produces no visible movement in any of them, while one subject chosen on the breakdown usually moves. The criterion is recoverable marks per hour, not which grade looks worst on the certificate.

All UAE sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For resit candidates the format earns its place twice: the candidate is often no longer on a school timetable and has daytime availability, and the specialist needed is defined by a syllabus code rather than by proximity.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A resit decision looks different depending on what the grade is needed for. Here is how each stage treats it.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11 candidates resitting

Students still in school who sat in June and want to improve in November. Usually the simplest route, because the school is already the registering centre and the subject teacher can supply mark schemes and the component breakdown without difficulty.

Dubai schools vary in how readily they enter current students for a November resit alongside starting sixth form, and some discourage it on workload grounds. Ask the examinations officer early, because the entry deadline for the November series falls well before the papers and the sixth-form term will already be underway.

POST16Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Sixth-form students resitting

Candidates already in A Level or Diploma courses who need a specific IGCSE grade for a subject prerequisite, a university requirement or an equivalency submission. The constraint is time: the resit competes with a full post-16 timetable.

This is the most common Dubai resit case we see, and the one where narrowing matters most. A Year 12 student carrying three A Levels or six Diploma subjects cannot resit three IGCSEs well. One subject, chosen because the breakdown shows recoverable marks, is the plan that works.

PRIVATEAny age

Private candidates

Candidates entering independently through a registered examination centre rather than through a school. The route exists in Dubai, and the questions are which boards a centre offers, whether practical or coursework components can be accommodated, and what the deadlines are.

Private entry is also the route used by adults completing the five subjects required for a Ministry of Education equivalency submission on the British track. Centres differ in board coverage, so confirm with the centre directly before planning around a particular syllabus code.

EQUIVAny age

Resitting for equivalency

As reported in July 2026, the British track for Ministry of Education equivalency requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels.

A candidate short of the five-subject count is in a different position from one chasing a high grade: the target is a pass rather than a top band, which usually means a much shorter plan. Equivalency is a Ministry process and no tutoring provider performs, influences or guarantees it. Verify your own requirements through the official channel.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below is what a November run can realistically achieve in each subject, with the codes to confirm on the entry.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Pearson 4MA1

Moves well where the breakdown shows unwritten method or blank final questions. A candidate who was weak across algebra and geometry needs most of a course, which a single term rarely delivers.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Moles calculations and electrolysis are the recoverable marks. Organic chemistry is often taught late in a school course, so a June candidate may have met it thinly, which a resit run can genuinely fix.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Unit and prefix discipline and equation selection respond quickly. Electricity is the usual topic gap. Confirm with the centre how the practical or alternative-to-practical component is handled for a resit.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Among the strongest resit subjects, because most marks are lost to command-term shape rather than missing content. Learning the required answer structures moves a grade without new material.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Marks come back through precise quotation and analysis of effect, and through controlled register in directed writing. Six to ten weeks of marked timed responses is the usual shape.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

The summary task and the listening paper are where the marks sit. Word limits and own-words requirements are applied strictly, and candidates lose marks for content they did understand.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450 · Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Fast movers in a resit window. A supported judgement in the evaluation question and accurate diagrams between them account for most of the recoverable marks.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417 · Pearson 4CP0

Pseudocode conventions and trace tables are learnable in a few weeks. Candidates who code competently often lose marks purely on the format the mark scheme requires.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 · Pearson 4PM1

A harder resit because the questions are long and interdependent, so partial method earns little. Realistic only where the breakdown shows the content was broadly secure.

Arabic and Islamic Education

MoE-mandated alongside the licensed curriculum

Required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. Note that they are excluded from the five subjects counted for equivalency on the British track.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Resit support divides into three shapes, and the breakdown decides which one is appropriate. All three run one-to-one over live video.

Breakdown review

One session reading the component breakdown against the board's mark scheme, before any teaching is agreed. The output is a judgement on how many marks are realistically recoverable and in which paper, plus a view on whether the resit is worth entering at all.

  • Component breakdown read against the mark scheme
  • Recoverable marks estimated per paper
  • Written summary for the family
  • Includes the case for not resitting

Single-subject November run

Weekly sessions in one subject from the result through to the November papers, with a marked paper at the start, the middle and the end so movement is evidenced rather than assumed. The shape that works for a candidate carrying a post-16 timetable.

  • One subject, chosen on the breakdown
  • Board-specific past papers only
  • Marked paper at three checkpoints
  • Monthly cost agreed at the outset

Equivalency pass block

A short block for candidates who need a pass rather than a high grade, usually to complete the five-subject count for a Ministry of Education equivalency submission. Narrower and cheaper than a grade-chasing plan, and often finished in weeks.

  • Target is a pass, not a top band
  • Content narrowed to the highest-mark topics
  • Entry route confirmed with the centre first
  • Equivalency itself remains a Ministry process

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the component breakdown proves

A grade is a summary. The breakdown is the evidence, and it answers the only question that matters before entering a resit: how many marks are actually recoverable. A candidate three marks below a boundary with one weak paper and two strong ones is a different proposition from a candidate thirty marks below with the shortfall spread evenly, and the two should not buy the same plan.

Read it in three passes. First, the distance to the boundary, which tells you the size of the job in marks rather than in feelings. Second, the distribution across papers, which tells you where the job is. Third, where available, the pattern within a paper: blank questions indicate pacing or coverage, low marks on long questions indicate technique, and uniformly middling marks indicate shallow knowledge across the syllabus.

That third reading is the one that changes plans. Blank final questions on a Mathematics paper usually mean a pacing problem, which is weeks of timed practice rather than a term of teaching. Correct content scoring half marks in Biology means command terms, which is faster still. Uniformly middling marks across every topic is the expensive case, because it means the content was never secure and a term may not be enough.

The table below is how we present the reading back to a family. It is deliberately quantitative, because a resit decision made on a feeling about how June went is the decision most likely to waste a term. Ask the examinations officer for the breakdown before any tutoring conversation; it is a routine request and it usually arrives within days.

Where to sit a resit in Dubai

  • Ask the original school first, and get the answer in writing
  • Confirm board coverage and the entry deadline with any centre
  • Settle how practical components are handled before entering
  • Check the syllabus code and the grading scale at the same time

No plan survives without an entry. A resit is entered through a school or a registered examination centre, and the candidate's original school is the first place to ask. Some Dubai schools enter former students routinely and others decline, usually on capacity grounds, so get the answer in writing rather than assuming. Where the school declines, the examinations officer can normally describe the route through another centre.

Several centres in Dubai accept private candidates, and the questions to ask are specific. Which boards do they offer, because Cambridge and Pearson coverage differs by centre. Can they accommodate a subject with a practical or a coursework component, which is the constraint that most often rules a subject out for a private candidate. What is the entry deadline, which sits well before the papers. And what the total entry cost is, which the centre quotes and which we do not publish because it varies and an invented figure would mislead.

The practical-component question deserves emphasis. For a science resit, how the practical element is assessed depends on the board and the centre: Cambridge offers a practical examination or an alternative-to-practical written paper depending on the centre, and Pearson assesses practical skills within its written papers. A private candidate needs to know which applies before committing, because the answer changes both the revision plan and whether the subject can be sat at that centre at all.

Two further checks are worth making in the same conversation. Confirm the syllabus code the centre will enter, since it may differ from the one the candidate studied, and confirm which grading scale results are reported on, because UAE centres use both A* to G and 9 to 1. Neither question is difficult and both change what the candidate should be revising.

03

The November series counted backwards

A resit run is short, so the calendar does most of the work. Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only and has no application to a UAE candidate. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. For a UAE resit the November series is the route, and the entry deadline sits months before the papers.

Pearson's published record shows the shape of the tail clearly. Its November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so plan from the live official timetable rather than from any restatement, including this page's.

That January results date is the most consequential fact on this page for Dubai families. If a sixth-form place, a university condition or a Ministry equivalency submission depends on the resit grade, the decision-maker will not see it until the new year. Check with the institution or the authority whether that timing works before entering, because a grade that arrives after a deadline has no value to the thing it was meant to achieve.

One Cambridge administrative detail matters too. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct zone version of the timetable, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The centre handles this; the candidate's job is to work from the timetable the centre issues.

Evidencing grade movement month by month

The argument of this page is that a resit plan should be auditable. A candidate who cannot show, in marks, that the work is landing is a candidate whose family will discover in November whether the term was worth it. That is avoidable: papers are available, mark schemes exist, and a marked paper produces a number.

The method is simple and we use it on every resit run. A full paper is sat under timed conditions in the first fortnight, marked against the board's scheme, and the mark recorded. The content work then proceeds against the gaps that paper confirmed. A second full paper is sat at roughly the halfway point and marked the same way. A third is sat in the final fortnight. Three numbers, on comparable papers, marked to the same scheme.

What the three numbers show is usually one of four things. Steady improvement, in which case the plan continues. No movement despite the work, in which case the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes rather than intensifies. Movement that stalls, which normally means the easy technique marks were recovered and the remaining gap is content. Or a mark already above the target, which means sessions can stop and the money can stay in the family's pocket.

That last outcome happens more often than families expect, particularly where the June result was a pacing failure rather than a knowledge one. We raise it when the evidence shows it. A provider with no marking habit has no way of knowing, which is one reason marking should be part of a resit plan rather than an extra.

05

What a Dubai resit costs, and what a parent can verify

Two costs sit on a resit: the entry and the tutoring. The entry is quoted by the school or centre and varies, and we publish no figure for it because an invented number would be worse than none. The tutoring can be priced from published market data, and the useful discipline here is to check each figure against the provider that published it rather than taking any aggregate on trust, including ours.

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026: Tutopiya lists from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget end; qualified online subject tutors run AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150; IGCSE and IB specialists are published at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and one premium provider at AED 650. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. Monthly comparators include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

For a resit the band should follow the diagnosis. A candidate recovering command-term marks in Biology needs someone who knows the mark scheme, which is the mid band at minimum. A candidate who simply will not sit down and work through past papers may be adequately served at the budget band, and paying specialist rates for supervision is waste. A candidate chasing a top grade on a difficult code needs the specialist band. Matching the band to the job is the part of this decision that saves the most money.

What a parent can verify, and should: the provider's own published rate page with the date read, the syllabus code the tutor teaches, whether marking is included or extra, the entry deadline from the centre in writing, and the marked papers from the sessions themselves. Everything on that list is checkable. Any claim that is not checkable, including satisfaction percentages and star ratings with no sample or date, should be treated as decoration.

Why resit work is delivered online here

Resit candidates make the clearest case for the format. They need a specialist in one syllabus code, their availability is irregular, they are frequently carrying a post-16 timetable or working, and some are no longer in Dubai at all. Matching on the code rather than on the postcode is the only sensible approach, and it is why IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer only in India; all UAE sessions are one-to-one over live video.

There is a specific evidence advantage as well. Marked papers are annotated on a shared screen and saved, so the three checkpoint papers and every marked question in between exist as documents the family can look at. The whole argument of this page is auditability, and a trail of annotated papers is what auditability looks like in practice. Work done on paper at a kitchen table leaves no comparable record.

The in-home premium also looks different on a short, deadline-bound run. Published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour carry travel inside them, and a resit candidate frequently has daytime availability that an in-home tutor cannot use because they are teaching elsewhere. Online, daytime slots are genuinely available, and they widen the specialist pool more than any other single factor.

The honest exception, as always, is the candidate who will not work without someone present. That is a real pattern and worth naming rather than pretending away. But a resit requires independent practice between sessions whatever the delivery format, so a candidate who cannot work alone needs a different conversation about habits before anyone is hired.

07

Coursework, practicals and what nobody can promise

  • Coursework stays the candidate's own work, with feedback only
  • Practical arrangements are settled with the centre before entry
  • No provider can state in advance the mark a grade will require
  • Board documents are linked at source, never redistributed

Three cautions. The first is that any coursework or controlled assessment in scope must be the candidate's own work. A tutor can teach the skill, explain the criteria, discuss a plan and give feedback on a draft the candidate wrote; a tutor cannot write it, rewrite it or edit it to completion. Boards investigate malpractice, and a finding can void a grade or an entire entry, which on a resit means losing the thing the resit was for.

The second is practical components, which are a centre question rather than a teaching one. How a science practical element is handled for a resit depends on the board and the centre, and for a private candidate it is the most common reason a subject cannot be sat where they hoped. Settle it with the centre before entering, because no amount of revision fixes an entry that was never possible.

The third is that no provider can promise a grade. Boundaries are set by the boards after each series and move with the paper, and they are published afterwards rather than in advance. A provider quoting the mark that will earn a grade is guessing. What a resit plan can honestly offer is recovery of the marks the breakdown identified, evidenced by marked papers along the way, which is the part anyone can act on.

On materials, we link to Cambridge and Pearson's own timetable and syllabus pages rather than redistributing papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables, which belong to the boards. The candidate's school or centre is the right source for official copies, and a provider offering a downloadable bank of board material is telling you something about its judgement.

08

Starting a resit plan with the evidence in hand

Send three things: the statement of results with the component breakdown, the subject and syllabus code, and what the grade is needed for and by when. The third item decides more than the first two. A grade needed for a sixth-form place in September is a different problem from one needed for an equivalency submission with no fixed date, and the November results timing makes that distinction decisive.

The first session reads the breakdown against the mark scheme and gives a view in marks: how many look recoverable, in which paper, and over what period. Sometimes the answer is that a re-mark enquiry should come first. Sometimes it is that one subject is worth resitting and the second is not. Occasionally it is that the June result was a pacing failure and six weeks of timed practice will do, which is a much smaller purchase than the family came for.

The trial lesson is free and carries no condition beyond booking a time. For a resit we spend it on a real question from the paper that lost the marks, because that is the quickest way to separate technique from content, and those two carry very different costs and timescales.

From there the plan runs monthly with three marked checkpoint papers, and it is reviewed on those numbers rather than on impressions. If the marks are not moving, the diagnosis changes rather than the intensity. If they pass the target early, we say so and stop. Either way the family can see the evidence, which is the point of the whole arrangement.

Where we tutor

Resit candidates across Dubai

Resit candidates are often between institutions or carrying a post-16 timetable. Here is how that looks across the communities we hear from.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Established British schools, so most candidates here resit through their own school. The examinations officer can usually supply the component breakdown within days.

Al Barsha and The Greens

Several schools within a short radius, with different board entries. Candidates moving to a new sixth form sometimes resit through one school while studying at another.

Dubai Hills Estate

Newer schools and more Pearson entries. Confirming the code before buying past papers matters here, because a resit plan on the wrong board's papers wastes the whole term.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Jumeirah Park

Large Year 11 cohorts, so November resit demand peaks sharply in September. Booking a specialist early is the difference between the right tutor and whoever is left.

Mirdif and Al Qusais

More candidates resitting for a Ministry of Education equivalency submission rather than for a sixth-form place, which changes the target from a high grade to a pass.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Candidates often have daytime availability if they are not in school, and daytime sessions widen the specialist pool considerably.

The Springs and The Lakes

Students here commonly sat nine or ten subjects in June. Choosing one subject to resit rather than three is the single most useful planning decision.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Internationally mobile families. A recurring online slot survives travel between the June result and the November papers, which an in-person arrangement does not.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Asking your own school first

The original school is the simplest entry route and the fastest source of the component breakdown and mark schemes. Ask the examinations officer whether they will enter the candidate for November and by what deadline, and get the answer in writing.

  • Dubai College
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Jebel Ali School

When a different centre is needed

Where the original school will not enter a former student, the examinations officer can describe the route through another school or a registered examination centre. Confirm board coverage and the handling of practical or coursework components with that centre directly.

  • Hartland International School
  • Safa British School
  • Sunmarke School
  • South View School
  • GEMS Founders School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Schools are listed only as local context for candidates asking about entry routes in Dubai; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and entry arrangements must be confirmed with each centre.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Request the component breakdown

Ask the examinations officer for the result broken down by component. It arrives within days and it is the document that tells you whether a resit is a six-week job, a term's work or the wrong instrument entirely.

  2. 02

Confirm the entry route in writing

Which centre will enter the candidate, which board and code, how practical components are handled, and the entry deadline. Without this in writing there is no plan, however good the tutoring arrangements look.

  3. 03

Say what the grade is for and by when

A sixth-form place, a university condition, or a Ministry equivalency submission. November results reach students in January, so the timing of the need decides whether the November series is any use at all.

  4. 04

    Sit a marked baseline paper

A full paper under timed conditions in the first fortnight, marked to the board's scheme, with the mark recorded. Everything after that is measured against this number rather than against impressions.

  5. 05

Check the marks at three points

Baseline, midpoint and final papers, marked the same way. Steady movement means the plan continues; no movement means the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes; passing the target early means sessions stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The breakdown decides the plan

We read the component breakdown against the mark scheme before agreeing any teaching, and we estimate recoverable marks per paper. A resit entered on a feeling about how June went is the most common way a term is wasted.

Movement is evidenced, not asserted

Three marked full papers at the start, middle and end of the run, on comparable papers marked to the same scheme. Three numbers tell a family whether the work is landing while there is still time to change course.

Entry route settled first

Which centre, which code, which board, how practicals are handled, and when entries close. We raise all of it before sessions begin, because no revision plan survives a missed entry deadline.

The band matched to the job

Supervision, mark-scheme teaching and top-band work are different purchases at different published rates. We say which the diagnosis calls for rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

We say when to stop

If the checkpoint papers pass the target early, sessions end. If they do not move at all, the diagnosis changes rather than the hours. Both conversations happen on evidence rather than at the end of the term.

No guarantees, no claimed approvals

Boundaries are published after each series, so no grade can be promised and we promise none. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, Cambridge or Pearson endorsement and claims none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

When can my child resit an IGCSE in the UAE?+

In the November series, which is the resit route for UAE candidates; the June series is the main sitting. Cambridge's February and March series is offered to India only and does not apply here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE also runs in November. The timing consequence matters: Pearson's record shows November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026, so a November grade is known in the new year rather than within weeks. Work from the board's live official timetable and the centre's own letter rather than any restated date.

What should I ask for before deciding on a resit?+

The statement of results broken down by component, which the examinations officer can obtain and which usually arrives within days. It tells you how far below the boundary the candidate sat, which paper lost the marks, and whether the shortfall was concentrated or spread. Three marks below in one paper is a different proposition from thirty marks below across all of them, and the two should not buy the same plan. A resit decision made without the breakdown is the most common way a Dubai family wastes a term.

Can my child resit through our own school in Dubai?+

Often yes, and it is the simplest route because the school is already a centre and can supply the breakdown and mark schemes easily. Some Dubai schools decline to enter former students, usually on capacity grounds, so ask the examinations officer and get the answer in writing. Where the school declines, the officer can normally describe the route through another school or a registered examination centre. Do this first, because the November entry deadline falls well before the papers and no revision plan survives a missed entry.

How do private candidates enter an IGCSE resit in Dubai?+

Through a registered examination centre rather than a school, and the questions to ask that centre are specific: which boards it offers, whether it can accommodate a subject with a practical or coursework component, what the entry deadline is, which syllabus code it will enter, and the total cost. Board coverage differs by centre and changes, so verify directly rather than relying on any third-party list. The practical-component question is the one that most often rules a science subject out for a private candidate, so settle it before paying.

How many marks can a resit realistically recover?+

It depends entirely on what the breakdown shows. Blank questions at the end of a paper indicate pacing, which timed practice fixes in weeks. Correct content scoring half marks indicates command terms, which is faster still. One paper far below the others indicates paper-specific technique, which is a defined job. Uniformly middling marks across every topic indicate content that was never secure, and a single series may not be enough for that. We estimate recoverable marks per paper in the first session rather than quoting a general improvement.

How do we know the resit work is actually landing?+

By marking full papers. We sit a complete paper under timed conditions in the first fortnight, mark it to the board's scheme and record the mark, then repeat at the midpoint and again near the end. Three numbers on comparable papers show whether the plan is working while there is still time to change it. Steady movement means continue; no movement means the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes rather than intensifies; passing the target early means stopping. A plan with no marking habit cannot tell you any of this.

Which IGCSE subjects resit best in a single term?+

Biology, Economics, Business Studies and Computer Science, because their recoverable marks are structural: command-term shape, a supported judgement, pseudocode conventions. English Language responds to six to ten weeks of marked timed responses. Mathematics moves quickly where the losses were unwritten method or blank final questions and slowly where algebra and geometry were never secure. Additional Mathematics and Further Pure are the hardest, because long interdependent questions give little credit for partial method, so they need the content to have been broadly sound.

Will a November grade arrive in time for a sixth-form place?+

Check with the institution before entering, because the answer is often no. Pearson's published record shows November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026, so a November grade lands in the new year. If a Dubai sixth form wants the grade before a September start, a November resit cannot supply it, and the useful conversation is with the school about conditional entry or an alternative subject. If the grade is for an equivalency submission with no fixed date, the timing matters much less.

Can a tutor help with coursework for a resit subject?+

Within clear limits. A tutor can teach the underlying skill, explain the marking criteria, discuss the plan and give feedback on a draft the candidate has written. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it or edit it to completion. Boards investigate malpractice and a finding can void the entry, which on a resit means losing the grade the whole term was for. A useful test is whether the candidate can explain their own argument without notes a week later; if they cannot, the work was not theirs.

Do you come to our home in Dubai for resit sessions?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE tutoring one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. Resit candidates are the strongest case for that: they need a specialist in one specific syllabus code, their availability is irregular, and many have daytime hours free because they are no longer on a school timetable. Daytime availability widens the specialist pool considerably. Published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour also carry travel inside them, which buys movement rather than teaching.

What does a resit cost in Dubai?+

Two lines. The entry fee is quoted per subject by the school or centre and varies, so ask for it in writing with the deadline; we publish no figure because an invented one would mislead. Tutoring at published Dubai rates read in October 2026 runs AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists. Ask whether marking of full papers is included, because on a resit the marking is the evidence you are buying.

Is it worth resitting just to raise one grade for equivalency?+

Often yes, and the plan is much smaller than families expect. As reported in July 2026, the Ministry of Education's British track requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. A candidate short of the count needs a pass rather than a top band, which usually means weeks of narrowed work on the highest-mark topics. Equivalency itself is a Ministry process that no tutoring provider performs or guarantees, so verify your own requirements officially.

Should we try a re-mark before entering a resit?+

If the candidate was close to a boundary, yes, and quickly. Enquiries about results run through the school within short windows that start from the results release, and they are cheaper and faster than entering a resit. Dubai examinations officers handle these requests routinely. It will not help a candidate who was well below the boundary, but for one a few marks short it can resolve the problem entirely, which makes it the first call rather than a fallback after a term has been booked.

How many subjects should a candidate resit at once?+

Usually one, occasionally two, and rarely more. Most resit candidates are carrying something else: a sixth-form timetable, a Diploma, a job. A Year 12 student with three A Levels cannot resit three IGCSEs well, and spreading the available hours across several subjects reliably produces no visible movement in any of them. The breakdown decides which subject to choose, and the criterion is recoverable marks per hour rather than which grade looks worst on the certificate.

Two documents, then a plan

Ask the examinations officer for the component breakdown, and ask a centre in writing which board and code it will enter your child for and by when. With those two documents a resit plan can be built in marks rather than in hope: how many are recoverable, in which paper, and over how many weeks. Send them with the subject and what the grade is needed for, and the first session will give you that reading, including when the answer is a re-mark or no resit at all. The trial lesson is free, one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.
