IB DP Math AI HL Tutor in Dubai

The expensive decision for an IB DP Math AI HL tutor in Dubai is almost never the hourly rate. It is whether your child is in the right maths course, how many hours Paper 3 quietly absorbs, and whether the person teaching the statistics half actually teaches statistics. This page prices Applications and Interpretation HL by component, names the published dirham anchors with their sources, and sets out what a quote should itemise. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every dirham anchor here is a published market figure with its source named
  • Costed by component and by deadline, not as an open weekly commitment
  • One-to-one over live video, so no part of the hour pays for Dubai traffic
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free, so it cannot justify a rate

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The costly decisions in Applications and Interpretation HL are not hourly

Families comparing tutors for Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level usually start by collecting hourly rates. It is the wrong first move, because in this particular course three other decisions each carry a larger price tag than the difference between a good rate and an excellent one. Whether the student is in the right maths course at all. How many hours the Higher Level investigation paper absorbs before anyone budgets for it. And whether the person being paid can actually teach the statistics content, which is the half of this syllabus that general maths tutors handle worst.

Delivery, first. IB Gram provides tuition in Dubai as one-to-one lessons over live video. There are no home visits in the UAE; home tutoring is a service offered only in India. On a cost page this is a line item rather than a disclaimer. Published rate data in this market puts in-home visiting work above the equivalent online rate, and the gap is travel. In Dubai an approach drive across the city at six in the evening is not short, and somebody pays for it whether the invoice itemises it or not.

The second structural point about this course is supply. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level is sat by fewer students than Analysis and Approaches, and the subset of tutors who are genuinely comfortable with hypothesis testing, regression analysis, graph theory and matrices is smaller still. That pushes the band upward for reasons of scarcity rather than difficulty, which matters because scarcity pricing responds to flexibility. A family able to use a weekend morning gets a better match at the same number than a family insisting on the busiest weekday hour in term time.

Third, and most expensive of all, is the route question. A meaningful number of Dubai students choose Applications because it is described to them as the lighter option, discover that the Higher Level version is not light, and then face a decision with a deadline attached. Moving course mid-programme costs catch-up hours, and staying in the wrong one costs two years of inefficient support. Either way the cost of the decision dwarfs the cost of the hour, and it is settled by evidence rather than by preference.

So this page prices by component rather than by week. What Paper 1 and Paper 2 technique absorb. What the Higher Level investigation paper absorbs, which is more than families expect. What the exploration absorbs when the data is real rather than textbook. What a route change absorbs. And what each of those is worth buying at the top of the market rather than the middle.

All dirham figures here are published market anchors with the publisher named. Nothing on this page is an IB Gram price list, because the honest number depends on the components involved and the weeks remaining, and it is given after a free trial session rather than before one.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three maths routes and one preceding programme sit around an Applications and Interpretation HL candidate in Dubai, and the price of support differs sharply between them. Most of the money families waste is spent in the wrong one of these four boxes.

AIHLAges 16-19 · Across both Diploma years

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Three written papers, with technology permitted throughout, plus the mathematical exploration. The Higher Level content reaches into graph theory, matrices, complex numbers in applied contexts, hypothesis testing, regression and numerical methods, and the third paper sets extended investigations rather than short questions.

In Dubai this course is often chosen by students heading for business, economics, data or design pathways. The pricing consequence is that specialist availability is thinner than for Analysis and Approaches, so the rate band reflects supply, and timing flexibility is worth more here than negotiation.

AISLAges 16-19 · Across both Diploma years

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Two papers rather than three, with the same applied flavour and a lower content ceiling. Relevant on a cost page because the single biggest saving available to some families is recognising that the Standard Level version was always the right course, which removes the third paper from the budget entirely.

A Dubai school's internal deadline for a level change is usually earlier than families expect, and it is set by the coordinator rather than the board. Two dated marked scripts on comparable question types are the evidence that conversation needs.

AAHLAges 16-19 · Across both Diploma years

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

The pure and theoretical route, with a calculator-free paper and an emphasis on proof and formal technique. Included because switching between the two Higher Level courses is one of the most expensive moves a Diploma student can make, and because some destinations expect this route specifically.

University prerequisite expectations differ by destination and by course, and they change. Any claim about which UAE or overseas institution requires which maths route should be verified on that institution's own admissions page before it influences a decision, because an out-of-date requirement is an expensive thing to inherit.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against criteria A to D on an eight-point scale. Students arriving into Applications HL from MYP 5 often have strong applied and investigative habits and limited experience of timed papers, which affects which components need funding first and therefore the shape of the budget.

Several Dubai schools run the full continuum, so a student may reach Higher Level maths having never sat an externally marked timed paper. The cheapest early spend in that case is on examination behaviour rather than on content.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Applications and Interpretation HL is best costed strand by strand, because the hours each one absorbs vary by a factor of several and so does the kind of tutor who can teach it. Below, each strand is described by where the hours actually go.

Statistics and probability

Applications and Interpretation HL

The largest cost centre in the course. Hypothesis testing, regression, correlation, distributions and the interpretation of all of it. Hours here are expensive because the pool of maths tutors genuinely comfortable with inference is small, and because interpretation marks need writing practice as well as calculation.

Number and algebra

Applications and Interpretation HL

Including logarithmic and exponential scales, approximation and error, and complex numbers in applied form. Cheap to support in isolation and frequently the first thing a generalist reaches for, which is why it is also the most commonly over-funded strand on this syllabus.

Functions and modelling

Applications and Interpretation HL

Fitting models to data, piecewise and composite models, and judging which model suits which situation. The marks lost are usually judgement marks rather than algebra marks, so sessions that only drill manipulation buy very little here.

Geometry, graph theory and matrices

Applications and Interpretation HL

Voronoi diagrams, adjacency matrices, minimum spanning trees, transformations with matrices. Unfamiliar to most tutors trained on a traditional syllabus, which makes it the strand where a specialist most clearly outperforms a generalist and where the rate premium is justified.

Calculus and numerical methods

Applications and Interpretation HL

Including differential equations, slope fields and numerical approaches. Hours absorbed here depend heavily on how well the student handles technology, because the marks reward using the right tool and recording enough reasoning on paper to earn credit anyway.

Paper 1 technique

Applications and Interpretation HL

Short-response work across the syllabus with technology permitted. The recurring loss is a correct screen result with no stated reasoning, which scores a fraction of the same answer supported by working. A cheap and fast fix, and a good first purchase.

Paper 2 technique

Applications and Interpretation HL

Extended-response work where context and interpretation carry marks alongside the calculation. Students who answer numerically and stop lose marks they had already earned, which is a writing habit rather than a mathematical gap.

Paper 3 investigations

Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level only: extended investigative problems that build across parts, where an early error propagates. The most hours-hungry component in the course and the one most budgets omit, because it does not map onto any chapter of the textbook.

The mathematical exploration

Applications and Interpretation HL

Coursework assessed against lettered criteria. For Applications candidates it usually involves real data, which adds sourcing, cleaning and justification work before any mathematics happens. Priced as a scoped block against the school's submission date rather than as weekly hours.

Economics, Business Management and Computer Science

HL and SL

Listed because the applied mathematics in these subjects overlaps with Applications HL, and a student struggling with regression in one is usually struggling with it in both. Supporting the shared skill once is cheaper than funding two subjects separately.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Format drives both the rate and the match quality in a thin-supply course. The three below are priced differently by the market and, more importantly, absorb different numbers of hours to reach the same point.

Ninety-minute weekly session

The default for Higher Level Applications rather than the usual hour, because the investigation paper and the modelling questions do not fit into sixty minutes with marking and review either side. Longer sessions cost more per sitting and fewer of them are needed, which usually nets out cheaper across a term.

  • Long enough for a multi-part investigative question in one go
  • Fewer sessions needed than an hourly pattern for the same ground
  • Marking happens between sessions, not inside the paid time

Scoped Paper 3 block

A defined set of sessions on the Higher Level investigation paper alone, bought as a block in the run-up to mocks. It is the component most budgets omit and the one where a specialist most clearly saves hours, because knowing how these questions build is a specific skill rather than general competence.

  • Targets the component no textbook chapter covers
  • Bought as a block with a finish line, not weekly
  • Where a specialist rate is most clearly worth paying

Exploration block against the school's date

Scoped to the coordinator's submission deadline. For Applications candidates this includes the data work: finding a defensible dataset, cleaning it, and justifying its use before any analysis. That stage absorbs more hours than families expect and is where an unscoped arrangement quietly expands.

  • Covers data sourcing and justification, not just the mathematics
  • Dated drafts with criterion-referenced comments only
  • Closes on the submission date rather than renewing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What drives the Applications HL number in Dubai

Take the published anchors first so there is something concrete to reason from. At the low end of this market, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, which is university-student territory. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate work puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tuition at AED 200 to 450 and above, in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 with home tutors reaching AED 500, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Those are the market's own numbers, attributed to whoever published them.

Within that range, five things move an Applications HL quote, and they are not equally negotiable. Format is the largest and the most controllable: a visiting hour carries a Dubai approach drive inside it, and choosing live video removes the component rather than discounting it. Component is second: Paper 3 work and exploration supervision sit above general content teaching everywhere in this market, and reasonably so.

Third is supply, which is the Applications-specific factor. Fewer students sit this course than Analysis and Approaches, and the proportion of maths tutors who are fluent in hypothesis testing, regression, graph theory and matrices is smaller again. Scarcity pricing does not respond to haggling; it responds to flexibility, which is why the same specialist is easier to secure at 20:00 or on a weekend morning than at the busiest hour of a term-time weekday.

Fourth is session length. Ninety minutes costs more per sitting than sixty and usually costs less per unit of ground covered in this course, because an investigative question cannot be set, attempted and reviewed inside an hour with anything useful left over. Fifth is timing in the year: availability thins as a session approaches, so arranging a mock-period block early is cheaper than arranging it late, even when the sessions themselves start later.

02

Cost by component, not by week

A weekly commitment is the wrong unit for this course, because the components absorb very different amounts of time and only some of them reward a specialist rate. Pricing by component also makes a budget finite, which a weekly arrangement never is.

Paper 1 technique is the cheapest and fastest purchase on the list. The characteristic Applications loss is a correct answer from the calculator with nothing written down, and teaching a student to record the stated reasoning alongside the result recovers marks on questions they were already getting right. A short block, mid-market rate, visible on the next script.

Paper 2 is a writing problem more than a maths problem. Interpretation and context carry marks, and students who produce a number and stop lose credit already earned. Again a short block rather than a term, and again not a job that needs the top of the market.

Paper 3 is the expensive one and the one most budgets omit entirely. Higher Level investigations build across parts, so an early error propagates and a student who has never practised the format loses marks structurally rather than mathematically. This is where a specialist earns the premium, because recognising how these questions are constructed is a specific skill. The exploration is the other place a premium is justified, and for Applications candidates it carries hidden hours: finding a defensible dataset, cleaning it, and justifying its use before any analysis begins.

The strands differ too. Statistics and the graph theory and matrices material are where a generalist most often improvises, and improvisation is the most expensive teaching there is because it has to be repeated. Number and algebra is where generalists are comfortable, which is why it tends to be over-funded relative to what it costs the grade.

03

The price of the route decision

This is the most expensive thing on the page and the one families least often price. Applications and Interpretation is sometimes described to Dubai students as the lighter maths option, and at Higher Level that description is misleading. A student who chose it on that basis can end up in the most demanding version of the course they were trying to avoid.

Three scenarios recur. First, a student in Applications HL who should be in Applications SL: the content ceiling and the third paper are the problem rather than the subject, and moving removes an entire component from the budget. Second, a student in Analysis HL who would be better served by Applications HL, usually someone strong with data and context and weak at formal proof. Third, a student in Applications HL who needs Analysis for a destination course, which is the only one of the three where delay is genuinely costly.

Each move has a deadline set by the school rather than the board, and in most Dubai schools it is earlier than families assume. That turns the decision into a cost question with a clock on it. Catch-up hours after a switch are real: moving between the two Higher Level courses means covering content the new course assumes and unlearning habits the old one rewarded, and it is the largest block of hours in any of these scenarios.

The evidence a coordinator will take seriously is two dated marked scripts on comparable question types, with the losses categorised. Not a parent's impression and not a tutor's opinion. That evidence costs a trial session and one marked paper to produce, which makes it the cheapest piece of decision-making available in the whole programme.

One caution on destinations. University prerequisite expectations vary by institution and by course and they change between admissions cycles. Any statement about which route a particular UAE or overseas university expects should be read on that institution's own admissions page before money or a decision rests on it, and no page should be trusted to have kept up, including this one.

WHAT EACH ROUTE DECISION COSTS
ScenarioWhat it costs in hoursWhat it changes in the budgetThe deadline it sits behind
Applications HL to Applications SLLight; the content overlaps substantiallyRemoves the third paper from the plan entirelyThe school's level-change window, set by the coordinator
Analysis HL to Applications HLHeavy; new applied strands to coverAdds a Paper 3 block and a statistics blockThe school's course-change window, usually earlier than expected
Applications HL to Analysis HLHeaviest; proof and technique have to be builtAdds a sustained content block across a termThe same window, and the one families regret missing
Staying in the wrong courseOpen-ended, across two yearsInefficient weekly support with no finishing conditionNo deadline, which is precisely the problem
Producing the evidence to decideOne trial session and one marked paperNothing, if the trial is genuinely freeNone; do it now rather than in the spring
04

The statistics half, and why a generalist costs more

  • Ask what conditions a hypothesis test requires before it is applied
  • Ask what a conclusion must state to earn the interpretation marks
  • Ask whether they have taught graph theory and matrices for examination
  • Calculator competence is not statistical competence
  • Content covered twice is the most expensive outcome available

If one paragraph on this page saves a Dubai family money it should be this one. The statistics and inference content in Applications HL is the part of the syllabus where general maths tutors are weakest, and paying somebody to learn it alongside your child is the most expensive form of tutoring available.

The content itself is specific: hypothesis testing with its stated conditions and conclusions, regression and correlation with the interpretation marks that go with them, distributions, and the judgement about which test or model suits which situation. It is not hard content for somebody who has worked with it. It is unfamiliar content for a tutor whose own training was in pure mathematics, and unfamiliarity shows up as hours.

The symptom is recognisable. Sessions on statistics that stay at the level of pressing the right calculator buttons, with the conditions unstated and the conclusion left as a number. A student taught that way produces correct figures and loses the interpretation marks, which are a substantial share of what these questions carry. Then the same ground is covered again later, at the same rate, because nothing durable was installed the first time.

The test is cheap to run. Ask a prospective tutor what conditions a hypothesis test requires before it can be applied, and what a stated conclusion has to include to earn full credit. Somebody who works with this content answers immediately and in specifics. Somebody who does not will answer about procedures. That question costs nothing and routinely saves a term of inefficient hours.

The same logic applies to graph theory and matrices, which appear on this syllabus and on very few traditional ones. A tutor who has never taught a minimum spanning tree or an adjacency matrix in an examination context will be reading ahead, and you will be paying for the reading.

05

What an Applications HL quote should itemise

A quote in this market is usually a single number per hour, which hides the things that actually determine what you pay across a term. Four questions turn that number into something comparable.

First, what the hour includes. Is marking inside the paid time or outside it. If a ninety-minute session contains thirty minutes of the tutor marking in silence, the real teaching rate is higher than quoted. Second, what happens to a session cancelled because a Dubai school moved a mock week or an exam-leave date, which happens every year and is a reasonable thing to have an answer for.

Third, whether materials are charged. Published syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards, should be referenced and linked from the official sources rather than redistributed, and should certainly not appear as a line item on an invoice. A provider charging for board material is charging for something they should not be supplying.

Fourth, the tax and invoicing position. This page does not state the UAE treatment of tuition fees as fact, because that would require a citation from the tax authority. What a family should do is ask two direct questions: is the quoted figure inclusive of VAT, and do you hold a tax registration number. A provider who answers both plainly has told you something useful about the operation, and one who cannot has told you more.

On free trials, the only honest version states the conditions next to the word: the length, who is eligible, and whether card details are needed to book. A trial that produces a marked piece of work and a scoped plan is worth taking. A trial that is a sales call with a maths flavour is not, and the difference is visible from what you are holding afterwards.

FOUR THINGS A QUOTE SHOULD MAKE EXPLICIT

06

Tutoring cost in the Dubai context

A rate in isolation feels large. Set against the rest of a Dubai education budget it is usually a small line, and families make better decisions with the scale in front of them.

The anchor is fees, and they have been held. The regulator confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. The sector itself is large and growing: 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, seventeen different curricula, with UK curricula at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. Enrolment rose 6 per cent during 2025-26, six new schools opened that year, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven more, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places.

Against an annual international school fee, a scoped Paper 3 block or an exploration block is a modest fraction, and each attaches to a specific component of the grade. Where the arithmetic turns bad is an open weekly commitment across two years on a course the student should have left, which is why the route section sits above this one.

There is also a set of costs outside tutoring that belong in the same spreadsheet. Enquiries upon results, remarks and retake entries carry board fees. A retake means a second preparation period as well as a second entry. The correct calculator model, replaced if a school changes its requirement. University admissions tests and application fees, which land in the same months as the heaviest tutoring spend. And Ministry equivalency, which is a Ministry process rather than something a tutoring service performs, arranges or guarantees, and which should be confirmed through the official channel.

One honest note on what this page will not do. It will not state an IB examination or results date, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and no session date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Dubai schools sit the May session, and the dates that bind your child are the coordinator's internal deadlines.

07

What to do before paying anybody

  • Ask the maths department which component the grade was weakest on
  • Categorise every loss on one marked script before buying anything
  • Settle the route question before the school's change window closes
  • Buy components with finish lines rather than an open weekly slot
  • Flexibility on the slot buys a better specialist at the same rate

Three things cost nothing, take an evening, and change what you end up buying. Families who do them spend less and spend it better.

First, get the component picture from the school. Ask the maths department which components the current grade was built from and which was weakest. A department will answer that readily. It converts a grade of 4 into something actionable, and it often reveals that the problem is the investigation paper rather than the content, which changes the whole plan.

Second, read one marked script with a pen. Label every lost mark as method, knowledge, instruction or accuracy. A script dominated by method and instruction losses is a cheap, fast fix and does not need the top of the market. A script dominated by knowledge losses in the statistics strand needs a specialist and a longer block. Those are two completely different budgets, and the script tells you which you are in.

Third, settle the route question with evidence rather than feeling. If there is any doubt about whether Higher Level Applications is the right course, produce two dated marked scripts and take them to the coordinator before the school's change window closes. The worst outcome in this course is two years of competent support propping up the wrong choice, and that outcome is entirely avoidable in the autumn.

Then, when you do buy, buy a component with a finish line. A Paper 3 block before mocks. An exploration block against the submission date. A short Paper 1 and Paper 2 technique block. Each of those ends, which is what keeps a budget finite and what lets you judge whether the money worked.

On availability, the honest position for this course: Applications at Higher Level is thinner on specialists than Analysis, and the busiest term-time evening hour sometimes has nobody suitable free. What you will be offered then is a different time, an adjacent specialist who can begin now, or a date. Paying a specialist rate for a generalist who is reading ahead is the single most expensive mistake available here, and it is the one this page is written to prevent.

Where we tutor

Where in Dubai the quote changes, and why

Two area-specific factors move a Dubai maths quote: the approach drive a visiting tutor prices in, and how late the student is actually able to think. The second one determines how much choice you have at any given rate, which in a thin-supply course matters more than the rate itself.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence

Dense apartment living with short school runs to the western corridor but heavy evening traffic for anyone driving in. An in-home quote here absorbs a slow approach rather than a long one, and the effect on the number is the same.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Similar school access with a working-parent pattern that pushes sessions late. Families here often want 20:00 starts, which is outside the most contested band and therefore easier to staff with a genuine Applications specialist.

Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Longer runs to the main Diploma schools and a growing student population. The format advantage is largest in areas like this, because the specialist pool stops being a function of distance and the hour contains no drive at all.

Dubai Hills Estate

Strong cohorts and fast class pacing, which produces students who are not failing and are behind on the statistics strand. Spending here is best directed at inference and interpretation rather than at general revision, which is a cheaper and narrower purchase.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer communities with students bussed across the city, so the day ends late. Shorter weekday sessions with marking done between them work better than long evening blocks, and they cost less for the same effect.

The Villa and Dubailand

Villa communities at the eastern edge with the longest approach drives in the emirate. Historically the most expensive addresses for visiting tuition, and the ones where live video changes the economics most sharply.

Deira and Al Mamzar

Established schools and a different commute pattern, often toward the northern side of the city. Several families here add Higher Level maths support alongside a subject the school streams tightly, which is a scoped purchase rather than a standing one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

The western Diploma corridor

Most Applications HL candidates in Dubai sit in schools along this stretch, and their coordinators' internal deadlines set when exploration work has to be funded. Getting that date in the autumn is worth more to a budget than any discount, because it stops the same work being bought twice.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the component, not the subject

Applications HL support for the statistics strand, for Paper 3, or for exploration supervision are three different jobs with three different price points. An enquiry that names the component is matched faster and more accurately than one that names the course, because the specialist pool is organised that way.

  2. 02

Send one marked script and the school's dates

A marked paper shows whether the losses are method, knowledge, instruction or accuracy. The coordinator's deadline sheet shows when exploration work has to exist. Together they prevent the most common waste in this course, which is buying weekly content hours for what is actually a format problem.

  3. 03

    Settle the route question first

If there is doubt about whether Higher Level Applications is right, resolve it before spending on a term of support. Two dated marked scripts with categorised losses is the evidence a coordinator will act on, and producing it costs a trial session rather than a budget.

  4. 04

Take the trial, then get the figure

A working session over live video, booked without card details and timed around the Dubai school day. It produces a marked piece of work and a scoped plan naming components and a session count. Our own rate follows it, because a number quoted before anyone has seen a script is a guess with a decimal point.

  5. 05

    Buy blocks that end

A Paper 3 block before mocks, an exploration block against the submission date, a short technique block for Papers 1 and 2. Each has a defined session count and a finishing condition. Blocks that end are what make a Higher Level maths budget finite and reviewable rather than a standing order.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by component, with finish lines

Paper 3, the statistics strand and exploration supervision are costed as scoped blocks against a date rather than as an open weekly commitment. That is the difference between a budget you can read in advance and one you discover at the end of DP2.

Every figure attributed to its publisher

The dirham anchors on this page are published by the providers named, with their own framing. Nothing here is an IB Gram price list, because the honest number depends on which components are involved and how many weeks remain, and it follows a free trial session.

The statistics half taken seriously

Hypothesis testing, regression and interpretation are where generalist maths tutors improvise, and improvised teaching is paid for twice. Matching on the applied strands rather than on the subject name is the specific thing that stops that happening in this course.

No approach drive inside the hour

Lessons are one-to-one over live video. Published visiting rates in this market sit above their online equivalents because a Dubai evening drive is priced in either way, and removing the format removes the cost rather than negotiating it down.

The route question answered with evidence

Two dated marked scripts with categorised losses, taken to the coordinator before the change window closes. It is the cheapest piece of decision-making in the programme and it prevents the most expensive outcome, which is two years of support propping up the wrong course.

Coverage and fallback stated plainly

Applications at Higher Level has a thinner specialist pool than Analysis. When nobody suitable is free in the busiest term-time hour you are told, with an alternative time, an adjacent specialist or a date, rather than being given someone who will be reading ahead at your expense.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should we budget for AI HL across the two Diploma years?+

Budget by component rather than by month. A short technique block for Papers 1 and 2, a substantial Paper 3 block in the run-up to mocks, an exploration block scoped to the school's submission date, and a statistics block if the marked scripts point there. Published anchors give the scale: Unitors advertises IB tuition from AED 200, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate puts specialist work at AED 200 to 450 and above. Those blocks together are a smaller total than an open weekly commitment across twenty-four months, and unlike it they end.

Why do AI HL rates sit above AA SL rates in Dubai?+

Mostly supply, not difficulty. Fewer students sit Applications at Higher Level than Analysis at Standard Level, and the proportion of maths tutors genuinely fluent in hypothesis testing, regression, graph theory and matrices is smaller still. Thin supply lifts the band. The useful consequence is that scarcity pricing responds to flexibility rather than negotiation: the same specialist is far easier to secure for a weekend morning or a 20:00 start than for the busiest ninety minutes of a term-time weekday, at the same quoted rate.

Is Paper 3 support charged separately, and should it be?+

It should be scoped separately, which usually means a block rather than a different rate. The Higher Level investigation paper is the component most budgets omit, because it does not correspond to a textbook chapter and nothing in the school's scheme of work announces it. Investigations build across parts, so an early error propagates and a student who has never practised the format loses marks structurally. Buying it as a defined block before mocks is both cheaper and more effective than discovering the gap in the mock results and buying panic hours in the spring.

What does it cost to switch into AI HL in the middle of DP1?+

In hours, a lot: the applied strands that Analysis does not cover, plus unlearning habits the previous course rewarded. In money, it is the largest single block most families in this situation buy. The deciding factor is usually not cost but the deadline, because the change window is set by the school's coordinator and is often earlier than parents expect. Produce two dated marked scripts with the losses categorised and take them to the coordinator early. A switch decided in the autumn costs a fraction of one decided in the spring.

Is it cheaper to stay in AA HL and get help, or move to AI HL?+

It depends entirely on what the marked scripts show, and the question should not be answered on feel. If losses are concentrated in formal proof and calculator-free technique while the student handles data and context well, moving may remove the problem rather than treating it. If losses are spread across all topics, the course is not the issue and a switch buys new content to learn as well as the old gap. The cheap move is to produce the evidence first, because it costs a trial session and settles a decision worth a year of support.

How many hours does the AI HL exploration absorb when the data is real?+

More than families budget, because the mathematics is only the second half. An Applications exploration usually involves a real dataset, and finding one that is defensible, cleaning it, and justifying its use takes sessions before any analysis happens. Scope the block to the coordinator's submission date rather than buying weekly hours, since an unscoped arrangement expands to fill the time available. The hours are worth buying at specialist level because the criteria are where marks are won, and a supervisor who knows them saves several drafts of drift.

Do we need to buy software or data for an Applications exploration?+

Generally no. Publicly available datasets and a spreadsheet handle the overwhelming majority of Applications explorations, and the student's own graphical calculator covers the rest. Be sceptical of any requirement that converts into a purchase, and be more sceptical of an offer to supply a dataset and an analysis together, which starts to look like supplying the work. What a supervisor can legitimately do is question whether a dataset is defensible and whether its limitations have been acknowledged, both of which carry marks.

Which AI HL topics are the most expensive to fix late?+

The statistics and inference strand, and graph theory and matrices. Both for the same reason: they are unfamiliar to many tutors trained on a traditional syllabus, so a late start means paying somebody to get fluent while your child waits. Statistics is also interpretation-heavy, and interpretation is a writing habit that needs weeks rather than a session. Number and algebra is the opposite case, cheap and fast, which is why it tends to be over-funded. The marked script tells you which category you are actually in.

Does a statistics specialist cost more than a general maths tutor?+

Often slightly, and in this course it is usually the cheaper option in total. A generalist working through hypothesis testing for the first time teaches calculator procedure, leaves the conditions unstated and the conclusion as a number, and the same ground gets covered again later at the same rate. Content paid for twice is the most expensive outcome available. Test it with one question before hiring: what conditions does a hypothesis test require, and what must a conclusion state to earn full credit. The answer separates fluency from familiarity immediately.

What should an AI HL quote itemise before we pay it?+

Four things. Whether marking happens inside or outside the paid session, because marking inside can consume a third of the teaching you bought. What happens to sessions when a Dubai school moves a mock week, which happens every year. Whether any materials are charged, noting that board documents should be referenced and linked rather than redistributed or invoiced. And the tax position: ask directly whether the figure includes VAT and whether a tax registration number is held. Plain answers to all four make two quotes comparable for the first time.

Is a group AI HL class cheaper, and does it work for Paper 3?+

Cheaper per student, and a reasonable format for content delivery when everyone in the group is at a similar point in the same strand. It works poorly for the investigation paper, because the skill there is an individual's own approach to an unfamiliar multi-part problem and the useful feedback is on that individual's choices. A workable compromise is a shared session on the statistics content plus a short individual block on Paper 3 technique, which keeps the per-student cost down without blunting the part that needs one-to-one attention.

What does an in-home AI HL visit in Dubai add to the price?+

Published data puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 with home tutors reaching AED 500, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the gap is travel. In Dubai that is a slow evening crossing rather than a long distance, but the effect on the hour is identical. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; tuition here is one-to-one over live video, and home tutoring is an India-only service. For a thin-supply course the format also widens the pool, which matters more than the saving.

What tax and invoicing questions should we ask before paying?+

Two, and ask them of every provider you compare. Is the quoted figure inclusive of VAT, and do you hold a tax registration number. This page does not state the UAE treatment of tuition fees as fact, because that would require a citation from the tax authority, and nor should any other page. What a family is entitled to is clarity about the number they are being asked to pay. A provider who answers both plainly has told you something about their operation, and one who deflects has told you more.

Does the calculator model change what we spend?+

It can, in two ways. Technology is permitted throughout this course, so fluency on the specific model the school requires is part of the subject rather than an extra, and practising on a different model builds reflexes the examination will punish. If a school changes its required model mid-course, that is a real cost. The other way is less legitimate: be wary of any tutoring arrangement that requires a hardware purchase. A device with a camera, paper, a pen and the student's own calculator covers everything needed for live-video sessions.

What can we do for nothing before paying for AI HL support?+

Three things, in one evening. Ask the maths department which components the current grade was built from and which was weakest, which converts a grade into something actionable. Read one marked script with a pen, labelling every loss as method, knowledge, instruction or accuracy. And if there is any doubt about the route, produce two dated marked scripts and take them to the coordinator before the change window closes. Those three steps routinely change what a family ends up buying, and they cost attention rather than money.

When does the next AI HL dirham stop buying anything?+

At three recognisable points. When a scoped block has shown up on the next marked script, because the skill now belongs to the student and renewing buys nothing. When nothing is produced between sessions, because the constraint is the student's week rather than teaching and no rate solves that. And when the student can mark their own work against a published markscheme, finish each paper in time and name their weak question types, at which point a session a fortnight through the final term and then nothing is the correct shape.

Price the decisions, then the hours

The families who spend least on Applications and Interpretation HL in Dubai are not the ones who found the lowest rate. They are the ones who settled the route question in the autumn with two marked scripts, scoped a Paper 3 block before mocks, booked the exploration block against the school's own submission date, and asked one hypothesis-testing question before hiring anyone for the statistics strand. Send a marked script and the coordinator's deadline sheet, take a free trial session over live video, and the plan that comes back will name components and session counts rather than a monthly figure.
