Grade 12 IB DP Tutor in Dubai

A grade 12 IB DP tutor in Dubai is hired into the most expensive and most constrained part of the programme. Predicted grades have already gone out, university offers are conditional on numbers nobody controls, and the final weeks can change some things and not others. This page says which, with the Dubai market rate in AED and the source attached, and it covers results day, remarks and the retake route. Lessons are one-to-one and live online.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What is still movable, and what is already fixed

The honest starting point for a Grade 12 family in Dubai is that some of the year is already decided. Predicted grades have been submitted and university offers rest on them. Internal assessment marks in several subjects are submitted or close to it. The Extended Essay is written or nearly. Theory of Knowledge is largely done. What remains genuinely movable is examination performance in specific components, and that is a smaller target than families assume and more tractable than they fear.

This matters because the final year is the most expensive in the programme. Bestimate's published Dubai 2026 estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, against AED 600-1,200 for the same weekly session in the mid-band and AED 240-600 at the budget end. A qualified subject tutor working online in Dubai sits at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Named specialists run AED 200-450 and upwards, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650. In-home visits add a travel premium Bestimate puts at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors at AED 200-500.

Spending at that band only makes sense if it is aimed at something that can move. A student weak on Paper 1 technique in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, which is sat without a calculator at both levels, has real marks available: technique and notation under time is a finite, trainable thing. A student whose Chemistry HL weakness is two years of unlearned content across the whole syllabus has far fewer marks available per hour in March, and a provider who implies otherwise is selling hope.

The second thing a Grade 12 family needs is the shape of what comes after the examinations. Results day, the enquiry-about-results window, and the retake route are all real options with real deadlines, and almost nobody plans for them in advance. The enquiry window in particular is short, it opens on results day, and a family discovering it for the first time on results day has already lost days of it.

Third, the practical constraint that defines the year: everything happens at once. Mock examinations, final internal assessment submissions, university applications and interviews, and then the examinations themselves. A tutoring plan that ignores that calendar will be abandoned by February. One built around it — triage after the mocks, one subject at a time, in the weeks that are actually available — survives.

All IB Gram tuition in the UAE is delivered one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is an India-only service. We publish no IB exam or results date on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and a wrong date in a final-year plan is worse than no date at all.

At a glance

  • Predicted grades are already submitted; the movable target is examination component performance
  • Exam-year specialist support sits at AED 1,000-2,000+ a month, per Bestimate's published Dubai estimates
  • Technique under time is trainable in weeks; two years of missing content is not
  • The enquiry-about-results window is short and opens on results day
  • Mocks, final internal assessments and university applications collide in the same months
  • We publish no IB session or results date; ask your coordinator and verify on ibo.org
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Grade 12 is the second Diploma year and the last. What follows it — results, remarks, retakes or an alternative route — has its own structure, and knowing it changes decisions made in March.

DPAges 17-19 · Grade 12

Diploma Programme, Year 2

The final year: internal assessments completed and submitted, the Extended Essay finished, Theory of Knowledge assessed, mock examinations sat, then external examinations. UAE schools sit the May session. Subject grades run 1 to 7, with up to three bonus points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, for a maximum of 45.

In Dubai the final-year calendar is compressed by university applications running through the same months, often to several systems at once. A student applying to the UK, the United States, the UAE and sometimes India simultaneously is managing four different deadline structures on top of six subjects, which is the real reason final-year tutoring plans collapse.

DPPost-Grade 12

Diploma retake and the November session

A candidate may retake subjects in a subsequent session to improve a Diploma result, registering through a school as an examination centre. Internal assessment marks can in some circumstances be carried forward rather than redone, which is a question for the coordinator rather than a tutor.

The route Dubai families most often discover too late. A retake is a registration made through a school, with its own deadline, and a candidate who has left school needs a centre willing to enter them. Asking the coordinator before results day what the retake process would look like costs nothing and converts a panic into a plan.

DPAges 16-17 · Grade 11

Diploma Programme, Year 1

Six subjects begun simultaneously, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, with internal assessments introduced and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge processes beginning. Subject changes are usually still possible early in the year.

Included for one reason: almost everything expensive about Grade 12 would have been cheaper in Grade 11. The same technique work in DP1 sits in the mid-band at AED 600-1,200 a month per Bestimate's estimates rather than the exam-year band, and there is time for a habit to change rather than be patched. For a family with a younger child, that is the usable lesson.

IGCSEAges 14-19 · Years 10-13

IGCSE and A Level, as the alternative route

Single-subject qualifications assessed largely by external written examination, taken individually. Cambridge International runs June and November series for UAE candidates; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with published final and provisional timetables per series.

Relevant to a small number of Grade 12 families for a specific reason: a student whose Diploma result will not support their intended destination sometimes has an A Level or single-subject route available as a recovery option. It is a conversation for a school counsellor rather than a tutor, but it exists, and the board calendars above are the sourced dates to plan it against.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is listed with the component where final-year marks are realistically recoverable. In Grade 12 the question is never the subject; it is the component and the question type.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, and it is the most recoverable component in the Diploma: technique, notation and speed under time are finite and trainable in weeks. Content gaps across the whole syllabus are not.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The recoverable marks are in interpretation questions, which ask what a result means in context and are short written compositions. Students who can compute and cannot comment lose heavily, and that is a writing fix rather than a mathematics one.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Physical chemistry questions — enthalpy cycles, entropy, equilibrium — are where final-year marks cluster, and they are topic-shaped rather than diffuse, so they can be targeted. Broad syllabus gaps in March are a volume problem with low marks per hour.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty treatment is the highest-return final-year target: propagating errors, error bars, justifying stated precision. It is a nameable set of techniques rather than a body of content, which is exactly what makes it recoverable late.

Biology

HL and SL

Answer discipline rather than content. Command terms set different scopes — 'outline' against 'explain' against 'evaluate' — and a student who writes everything for every term loses marks and running time together. Fixable in a handful of sessions.

Economics

HL and SL

Final-year marks sit in data-response and extended-answer technique: diagram accuracy, evaluation paragraphs that reach a judgement, and application to the stimulus rather than a general account of the theory.

Business Management

HL and SL

Paper 1 uses a pre-released case study, which makes it one of the few genuinely preparable components in the Diploma. Students who treat the pre-release as background reading rather than as preparation leave marks on the table.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, and technique on it is recoverable late because it is a repeatable procedure. Paper 2 depends on reading that cannot be bought in the final term.

English B

HL and SL

Text types and register carry the marks, and the conventions of each assessed text type are finite. That makes English B one of the better final-year purchases, because the target is a list rather than a body of knowledge.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Largely complete by the final term. Where the prescribed-title essay is still in progress there are bonus points available, and a tutor can explain the assessment structure and give feedback on the student's own draft, but not write any of it.

Extended Essay

Core

Usually finished. Where it is not, the realistic help is process coaching and written feedback on the student's own drafts against the criteria. Nothing is drafted, edited to completion or supplied, at any price and at any point in the year.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format targets a different part of the endgame. All are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

Post-mock triage block

The highest-value final-year purchase. After the mocks, the marked papers are read to identify which components and which question types actually lost marks, and the remaining weeks are allocated against that. Most students lose marks in two or three identifiable places, not uniformly.

  • Starts from the marked mock papers, not from the syllabus
  • Produces a written list of components and question types to target
  • Allocates the remaining weeks explicitly, including what will not be covered
  • Two or three sessions for the triage itself, then targeted work

Single-component intensive

Concentrated work on one component — Paper 1 non-calculator technique, Physics uncertainty treatment, English A guided analysis — under timed conditions, with papers marked against the official mark scheme and returned in writing. Technique is the thing that moves in weeks.

  • One component, one question type at a time
  • Timed practice rather than content teaching
  • Marked against the official mark scheme, with written feedback
  • Official papers and mark schemes linked from the board, never supplied

Final internal assessment and core finishing

Where an internal assessment, Theory of Knowledge essay or Extended Essay is still open, process coaching against the school's submission date. Criteria explained letter by letter with the marks attached, written feedback on the student's own drafts, and nothing written, edited to completion or supplied.

  • A fixed session count against the school's own submission date
  • Criteria explained by letter, with the marks attached
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • No drafting, ghostwriting or model answers at any price

Results-day and retake planning

One or two sessions before results day rather than after it. The purpose is to know in advance what the enquiry-about-results window is, what a remark can and cannot change, what a retake registration involves, and which subjects would be worth retaking if a number comes in low.

  • The enquiry window understood before results day, not on it
  • What a remark actually reconsiders, and what it does not
  • The retake registration route, which runs through a school as centre
  • A plan on paper, so a bad number produces a decision rather than a panic

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the last twelve weeks can actually change

The single most useful thing a Grade 12 family can know is which kinds of weakness respond to late work and which do not, because the difference decides whether exam-year money is well spent or wasted. The dividing line is technique against volume.

Technique responds to late work, reliably and sometimes dramatically. Paper 1 in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is sat without a calculator at both levels, and non-calculator fluency, correct notation and speed under time are a finite set of trainable behaviours. Uncertainty treatment in Physics is a nameable list of procedures. Command-term discipline in Biology is answer-length control. Guided analysis technique in English A Paper 1 is a repeatable procedure. All of these can move several marks in six to ten focused sessions, because the student already holds the knowledge and is losing marks in the execution.

Volume does not respond in the same way. A student who has not learned two years of a Higher Level science syllabus has a volume problem, and twelve weeks of tutoring will cover part of it at a low rate of marks per hour. That is not a reason to do nothing; it is a reason to be told the truth and to triage ruthlessly, picking the topics with the heaviest exam presence rather than attempting the lot.

There is a third category worth naming: the already fixed. Predicted grades have gone and conditional offers rest on them. Internal assessment marks that have been submitted cannot be revisited. Reading for English A Paper 2 cannot be done in April. Spending exam-year money on any of these is spending on something that has closed, and a provider who takes the booking without saying so is not helping.

02

Predicted grades: what they are, and what they are not

  • Predictions are the school's professional judgement, submitted to universities
  • A conditional offer rests on the final result, not on the prediction
  • The evidence base — especially mocks — is what can legitimately change
  • No provider can promise a grade, a prediction or an admission outcome

Predicted grades are produced by the school, subject by subject, and submitted to universities as the basis for conditional offers. They are a professional judgement about likely performance, not a negotiation and not a target. Understanding that saves a great deal of final-year distress in Dubai households, where the predicted grade is often treated as either a promise or an insult.

The practical consequences are three. First, a conditional offer is conditional on the final result, not on the prediction, so a student holding an offer built on a prediction they are currently below has work to do rather than a guarantee. Second, a student predicted below what an offer requires generally cannot have the prediction raised by lobbying; what can change is the evidence base, which means performance on school assessments and mocks. Third, universities differ in how they treat a shortfall, and that is a counsellor question rather than a tutor one.

Where tutoring legitimately interacts with predictions is through the evidence. Schools predict from performance data, and the mock examinations are usually the most heavily weighted piece of it. A student who improves component technique before the mocks is improving the data the prediction rests on. That is a real and legitimate route, and it is a reason to spend in the autumn term of Grade 12 rather than in the spring.

A caution that belongs here. No provider can promise a grade, a prediction, a point total or an admission outcome, and anybody who does should be disbelieved on that basis alone. What can be described honestly is which components have recoverable marks and roughly how many sessions a technique fix usually takes. Beyond that, the examination is the examination.

03

Triage after the mocks: reading the papers rather than the grades

The mock examinations are the most useful diagnostic event in the Diploma and most families use them only as a scoreboard. A mock grade tells you roughly where a student stands. The marked mock papers tell you exactly which components and which question types lost the marks, and that is the information the final term should be planned around.

The pattern is consistent across students: marks are lost in two or three identifiable places rather than spread evenly. A Chemistry HL student might lose most of their marks on equilibrium calculations and on extended-response questions that ask for justification, and almost none on the recall questions everyone assumes are the problem. A Maths AA student might be losing twelve marks on Paper 1 to notation and arithmetic slips and four to genuine content gaps. Those two students need entirely different final terms.

The triage process is simple and takes two or three sessions. Go through each marked paper, categorise every lost mark by component and question type, count them, and rank. Then allocate the remaining weeks against the ranking, stating explicitly what will not be covered — because a plan that implies everything will be covered is not a plan. A family who has done this knows exactly what they are buying and can tell at the end whether it worked.

One further use of the mocks that families miss: running time. A student who leaves a question blank in a mock has a timing problem, not a knowledge problem, and timing is among the fastest things to fix. Blank final questions on a paper almost always mean the earlier answers were too long, which traces back to command-term discipline and is worth more than any content revision.

What the final year costs in Dubai, and which weeks are worth buying

This is the most expensive band in the market and the one where value varies most. Bestimate's published Dubai 2026 estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, against AED 600-1,200 in the mid-band and AED 240-600 at the budget end. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Named specialists run AED 200-450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650.

The weeks worth buying are not evenly distributed. The autumn term is worth buying because it feeds the mock performance that feeds the predicted grades. The weeks immediately after the mocks are worth buying most of all, because that is when the diagnosis exists and there is still time to act on it. The weeks immediately before the examinations are worth less than families assume, because by then the student is at capacity and additional input displaces consolidation.

The weeks genuinely not worth buying are the ones consumed by university applications and interviews, where a tutoring slot is simply one more thing the student will miss, and the final fortnight, where what helps is rest, timed practice and the student's own revision rather than new teaching. Booking at the exam-year band through those weeks is the commonest way a Grade 12 budget is wasted.

One more thing on value. In-home visits in this market carry a premium Bestimate puts at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor. In the final year that premium buys the commute while the binding constraint is finding someone who knows a specific Higher Level component intimately — a pool that does not grow because you are willing to pay for travel.

Results day, enquiries and remarks: know this in advance

  • The enquiry-about-results window is short, opens on results day and runs through the school
  • An enquiry reconsiders marking; it is not a second attempt at the paper
  • Pearson: June 2026 results to centres 19 August 2026, students 20 August 2026
  • Ask the coordinator about the retake and carry-forward process before results day

Almost no Dubai family plans for results day, and the one feature of it that matters most is a deadline. The enquiry-about-results window — the process by which a result can be reconsidered — is short, opens on results day, and runs through the school rather than through the family. A family learning about it on results day has already lost days.

Understand what an enquiry does and does not do. It is a reconsideration of marking, not a second chance at the examination and not an appeal against the paper's difficulty. It can change a mark and therefore a grade, in either direction in some systems, and it costs money. It is most worth considering where a result is well below both the prediction and the student's demonstrated performance, and least worth considering where the result matches the mock and the prediction. The school is the right source on cost, process and advisability.

For students sitting Cambridge or Pearson qualifications alongside the Diploma, the board timings are sourced and usable. Pearson's pattern: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates — the February/March series is offered to India only. For IB dates, ask the coordinator and verify on ibo.org; we publish none here.

Then the retake route. A candidate may retake subjects in a later session to improve a Diploma result, registering through a school as an examination centre, and in some circumstances internal assessment marks can be carried forward rather than redone. That is a question for the Diploma coordinator, and the right time to ask it is before results day, not after. A family who knows the answer in advance can make a decision on results day instead of spending a week finding out what their options are.

06

Academic honesty in the year the pressure peaks

  • Allowed: timed papers set and marked, criteria by letter, written feedback on the student's own drafts
  • Not allowed: writing, dictating, supplying data, editing to completion, model answers
  • A flagged investigation in the final year arrives when there is no time to remedy it
  • Official papers and mark schemes are linked from the board, never reproduced or supplied

The final year is when somebody will offer to produce the work rather than teach it, and when a stressed family is most likely to accept. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is an IB malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the student — who can be excluded, losing the Diploma and any offers resting on it — not on the seller, who keeps the fee.

What a tutor may legitimately do, including in April, is substantial. They may teach content, explain each assessment criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, interrogate a research question, teach methodology, mark the student's work against the official mark scheme, give written feedback on the student's own drafts, and teach referencing. For examination components they may set timed papers, mark them and categorise the errors, which is the core of everything this page recommends.

What a tutor may not do is write any part of submitted work, dictate sentences for transcription, supply a dataset or methodology as the student's own, edit a draft into a finished state, or provide a model answer to be adapted. The test remains whether the student could explain and defend every line of the work in an oral examination. In the final year that test has teeth, because an investigation flagged at moderation is flagged when there is no time left to remedy it.

On materials, the position is unchanged by urgency: we do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. We reference them and link the official source. A provider offering unreleased material in the final term is offering a malpractice exposure wrapped as an advantage.

07

MoE equivalency and the UAE university route

For a Grade 12 student applying to a university in the UAE, the Ministry of Education equivalency process converts a school certificate into something a UAE institution can accept. It is an administrative process and it has its own timeline, which is worth establishing in the final year rather than after results.

The published requirements for the British track are specific: passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. At least one page ranking in this market states six IGCSE subjects are required, which is wrong.

For the American track, English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB track we will not publish a points threshold, because we have not read one on moe.gov.ae and an unsourced number in a final-year family's planning would be a serious liability. Ask the Ministry or the school's university counsellor and get it in writing.

Two cautions. Equivalency and attestation are processes the Ministry and the emirate attestation authority run; they are not services IB Gram performs, influences or guarantees, and we describe them only so that a timeline can be planned. And nothing about tutoring is required for equivalency, admission or progression — any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process they have no part in.

Permits, availability and the final-year calendar in Dubai

  • MoHRE permit: free, valid two years, two working days, no published fine schedule
  • Do not seek an arrangement with the teacher who writes the prediction and marks the IA
  • Specialist HL availability is tightest in the weeks right after the mocks; book early
  • In the final term, agree the Ramadan slot change in advance rather than weekly

On whoever you pay at the most expensive point in the programme: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and MoHRE's service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published fine schedule, so treat any quoted amount as unverified.

There is a restriction worth knowing in a year when families will try anything. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. An arrangement built around your child's own Diploma teacher — who also writes the prediction and marks the internal assessment — is not one to pursue. This is press-reported, so verify against current ADEK guidance.

On availability, the final-year squeeze is real and it is seasonal. Demand for Higher Level science, Maths AA HL and HL Economics specialists peaks across the whole Dubai market in the weeks after the mocks, which is exactly when families decide they need them. A specific evening hour in one of those subjects frequently cannot be filled at short notice, and when that is the case we say so rather than booking a generalist against a Higher Level component. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base including IB specialists in India, delivered identically by live video.

On the calendar, the UAE working week runs Monday to Friday with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, so Friday evening is a school night. During Ramadan the school day shortens and the productive window moves, for many families to after Iftar — and in the final term that shift matters more than at any other point, because displaced revision does not get made up. Agree in advance that the slot moves rather than renegotiating it weekly.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and a final-year week

In Grade 12 the usable hours are scarce and the commute decides which exist. An unusable slot booked at the exam-year band is the most expensive mistake available.

Al Barsha and Tecom

Central with short drives to several clusters, so an early evening start holds even in a loaded term. One of the better bases for an intensive block in the weeks after mocks.

Dubai Hills Estate

Schooling inside the community keeps the run short, so an earlier weekday slot is realistic. In Grade 12 the earlier hour is disproportionately valuable, because the later ones go to coursework and applications.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short commutes to the older school belt. The competition here is between tutoring, Creativity Activity Service completion and university interviews, which is a calendar negotiation rather than a traffic one.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

A long run along the Al Khail corridor for some schools, so later weekday starts. In the final term a weekend double session is usually more productive than two tired weekday evenings.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment living with a drive to most schools, so evening slots are standard. During the application and mock weeks, weekend work produces markedly better results here than a late weekday session.

Mirdif and Al Khawaneej

Short commutes and a dense school presence, which supports an earlier start. Families here can usually hold two sessions a week through the intensive phase without the week collapsing.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several institutions with short journeys, supporting a twice-weekly intensive pattern in the weeks after mocks when it matters most.

Business Bay and Downtown

Few schools nearby and outward commutes, so late weekday starts. In the final term the honest pattern here is one weekday session and a longer weekend one rather than two weekday slots nobody can use.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Established Dubai Diploma cohorts

Schools with long-running Diploma cohorts usually have settled mock calendars, clear internal submission dates and experienced counsellors who know the results-day and enquiry process. In the final year that administrative maturity is worth a great deal.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. Newer cohorts can mean smaller Higher Level groups and a counselling team handling its first few results days, which is worth knowing in advance.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Start from the marked mock papers

Not the mock grades. Every lost mark categorised by component and question type, counted and ranked. Two or three sessions produce a written list, and that list is what the remaining weeks are allocated against, including an explicit statement of what will not be covered.

  2. 02

    Separate technique from volume honestly

Technique — notation, timing, command-term scope, uncertainty treatment, guided analysis procedure — moves in six to ten sessions. Two years of unlearned content does not, and should be triaged to the heaviest-weighted topics with expectations stated upfront rather than discovered in April.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson in the identified component

One session, no charge, with a tutor matched to that subject and that component. By the end of it you should have a named question type and a plan for it. If the match is wrong you say so, and we match again before any payment at exam-year rates.

  4. 04

Protect the weeks that are not worth buying

Application and interview weeks, and the final fortnight. A slot booked through those is a slot the student will miss or cannot use, and at the exam-year band that is the most expensive waste available. Plan the gaps deliberately rather than letting them happen.

  5. 05

Ask the coordinator about results day before it arrives

The enquiry-about-results window and its deadline, what a remark reconsiders, the retake registration route, and whether internal assessment marks can be carried forward. All free to ask, all much harder to find out in the week the results land.

  6. 06

    Stop at the examinations

The plan ends when the papers do. Where a retake becomes relevant after results, that is a new and separate decision made against a specific subject and a specific session, not a continuation of a slot that was running anyway.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We say what the final term cannot change

Submitted internal assessment marks, predicted grades and the reading for English A Paper 2 are closed. Spending exam-year money on them is spending on something that has shut, and saying so costs us the booking and is the only useful answer.

Triage from the papers, not the grades

Mock grades are a scoreboard; marked mock papers are a diagnosis. Students lose marks in two or three identifiable places rather than evenly, and the final term should be allocated against that list with what is being skipped stated explicitly.

Weeks ranked by value, including the ones to skip

The weeks after the mocks are worth most. Application weeks and the final fortnight are worth nothing and are where final-year budgets are typically wasted. Planning the gaps deliberately is part of the plan rather than a failure of it.

No promises about grades or admissions

No provider can promise a grade, a point total, a prediction or an admission outcome, and anybody who does should be disbelieved on that basis. What can be described is which components have recoverable marks and roughly how long a technique fix usually takes.

Honesty with the pressure at its highest

The final year is when completed coursework is offered for sale, at AED 3,750 in one documented case. The consequence falls on the student. Our boundary does not move with the calendar: marked papers, criteria explained, feedback on the student's own drafts, nothing authored.

Clear about what we are not

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, no KHDA approval or regulator accreditation, no UAE office. We publish no IB session or results date because the IB's site blocks automated checking, and where we cannot match a Higher Level component at your hour we say so.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Can anything realistically change in the last twelve weeks of the IB Diploma?+

Technique can, substantially. Non-calculator fluency and notation for Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Paper 1, uncertainty treatment in Physics, command-term scope and answer-length control across every subject, and guided analysis procedure in English A Paper 1 are all finite trainable behaviours where the student already holds the knowledge and is losing marks in execution. Six to ten focused sessions can move several marks. What does not change in twelve weeks is two years of unlearned content, reading for the Paper 2 comparative essay, or a submitted internal assessment mark.

How much does a Grade 12 IB tutor cost in Dubai?+

The final year sits in the most expensive band. Bestimate's published Dubai estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, against AED 600-1,200 in the mid-band. A qualified subject tutor working online is AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, while named specialists run AED 200-450 and upward with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits add a travel premium Bestimate puts at AED 180-350. These are market figures with sources; ours follows a free trial lesson.

Can a predicted grade be changed if it is below our offer?+

Not by lobbying. A predicted grade is the school's professional judgement submitted to universities, and a conditional offer rests on the final result rather than on the prediction. What can legitimately change is the evidence base the school predicts from, and the mock examinations are usually the most heavily weighted part of it. That is a real route and it is a reason to spend in the autumn term rather than the spring. Where a shortfall persists, how a university treats it is a counsellor question rather than a tutor one.

What should we do with the marked mock papers?+

Read them rather than the grade. Go through each paper, categorise every lost mark by component and question type, count them and rank. The pattern is consistent: marks are lost in two or three identifiable places rather than spread evenly. A Chemistry student losing most marks on equilibrium calculations and extended-response justification needs a different final term from one losing them on recall. The triage takes two or three sessions and produces a written list that the remaining weeks are then allocated against.

Which weeks of the final year are not worth paying for?+

The university application and interview weeks, and the final fortnight. In the application weeks a tutoring slot is simply one more commitment the student will miss, and at the exam-year band that is the most expensive waste available. In the final fortnight the student is at capacity and new input displaces consolidation; what helps then is rest, timed practice and their own revision. Plan those gaps deliberately rather than letting the slot run and be missed.

Why is a blank final question on a mock paper important?+

Because it is a timing problem rather than a knowledge problem, and timing is among the fastest things to fix. A blank last question almost always means the earlier answers were too long, which traces back to command-term discipline: writing a full explanation for a question that asked for an outline. Two to four sessions of answer-length control, with timed practice, typically recovers more marks than the same hours spent revising content. It is also the single most overlooked diagnostic in the marked mock paper.

What is an enquiry about results and when do we have to decide?+

It is the process by which a result can be reconsidered, and the window is short, opens on results day and runs through the school rather than the family. It is a reconsideration of marking, not a second attempt at the examination and not an appeal against difficulty. It can change a mark and therefore a grade, and it costs money. It is most worth considering where a result is well below both the prediction and demonstrated performance. Ask your coordinator about the process and the deadline before results day, not on it.

How does an IB retake work from Dubai?+

A candidate may retake subjects in a later session to improve a Diploma result, registering through a school acting as an examination centre, and in some circumstances internal assessment marks can be carried forward rather than redone. Both of those are questions for the Diploma coordinator rather than for a tutor, and the right time to ask is before results day. A student who has left school needs a centre willing to enter them, which takes time to arrange. Knowing the answer in advance turns a bad number into a decision rather than a week of research.

Is it worth paying for a specialist rather than a regular subject tutor in the final year?+

For a narrow set of jobs, yes. A Higher Level component where the problem is genuine content depth, or an internal assessment still open and going badly, justifies the AED 200-450 and upward band where TutorChase publishes AED 270. For technique work — timing, notation, command terms, uncertainty procedure — a qualified subject tutor at AED 150-300 does the same job, and the extra money would move more total marks as a second subject. One caution from the research: do not pay a premium for examiner positioning you cannot independently verify.

Do you send a tutor to our home in Dubai for final-year revision?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. In the final year the travel premium is particularly poor value: Bestimate puts in-home visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500 against AED 150-300 online, and the binding constraint is finding someone who knows a specific Higher Level component intimately. That pool does not grow because you will pay for travel.

Can a tutor still help with an internal assessment that is nearly due?+

Within the same boundary as at any other point in the year, which urgency does not move. A tutor may explain each criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, interrogate the research question, teach methodology, read the student's own draft and give written feedback against the criteria, and teach referencing. A tutor may not write any part of it, dictate sentences, supply a dataset or methodology, edit a draft to completion, or provide a model to adapt. An investigation flagged at moderation in the final year arrives when there is no time left to remedy it.

When do IB results come out and should we plan around that date?+

We do not publish a specific IB exam or results date on these pages. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so any date here would be second-hand, and a wrong date in a final-year family's planning is worse than none. Ask your Diploma coordinator for the entered session and the results date in writing and verify against ibo.org. For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications sat alongside, the dates are sourced: Pearson's June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

What does UAE equivalency require if our child applies to a university here?+

For the British track, passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. For the American track, SAT Math 450 or above plus English via IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT reading and writing 450. For the IB we will not publish a points threshold we have not read on moe.gov.ae. The Ministry runs this process; IB Gram has no part in it.

Why is it hard to book an HL science tutor right after the mocks?+

Because the whole Dubai market reaches the same conclusion in the same fortnight. Demand for Higher Level science, Maths AA HL and HL Economics specialists peaks immediately after the mocks, which is precisely when families decide they need one. A specific evening hour in one of those subjects often cannot be filled at short notice, and when that is the case we say so rather than booking a generalist against a Higher Level component. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base including IB specialists in India.

How should the final term be scheduled around Ramadan?+

By agreeing the change in advance rather than renegotiating weekly. During Ramadan the school day shortens and the productive window moves, for many families to after Iftar, and in the final term displaced revision does not get made up later because there is no later. Fix the revised slot once, for the month. The UAE working week runs Monday to Friday with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, so Friday evening remains a school night, and Eid breaks are announced rather than fixed far ahead, which argues for a plan with some slack in it.

Can a Dubai DP tutor promise a grade improvement in Grade 12?+

No, and nobody honestly can. What can be described is which components have recoverable marks, why, and roughly how many sessions a particular technique fix usually takes — six to ten for non-calculator technique or uncertainty treatment, two to four for answer-length control and timing. What cannot be offered is a promised grade, a promised point total, a promised prediction or a promised admission outcome. A provider offering any of those is making a claim about an examination they do not mark, and it is a reason to discount everything else they say.

Buy the weeks after the mocks, and skip the ones that cannot work

The final Diploma year is the most expensive point in the programme and the one where value varies most, so the plan matters more than the rate. Read the marked mock papers rather than the grades, separate technique from volume honestly, put the money into the weeks right after the mocks, and protect the application weeks and the final fortnight from a slot nobody can use. Ask the coordinator about the enquiry window and the retake route before results day. Book a free trial lesson in the component the papers actually name. Sessions are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time; we do not send tutors to UAE homes.
