IGCSE Maths Tutor in Dubai Production City

An IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai Production City should be able to tell you, in the first ten minutes, which syllabus your child is entered for and what the grade ceiling is on their tier. Most cannot. This page is the syllabus detail instead: paper structures, the topics where marks reliably disappear, and what past-paper practice should actually look like. IB Gram teaches Production City students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched by syllabus code, not by the word maths
  • Tier ceilings explained before any revision plan is written
  • Timed questions marked against the published mark scheme, point by point
  • Free trial lesson on the topic your child is stuck on this week

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Production City

Two syllabuses, four tiers, and one of them has a grade ceiling

Before any tutoring question, a Production City family needs two pieces of information: which board their child is entered with, and which tier. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is tiered Core and Extended, and Core is capped at grade C. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, syllabus 4MA1, is tiered Foundation and Higher on a 9-1 scale. A student on the lower tier of either cannot reach the top grades however hard they work, and a surprising number of families discover this in Year 11.

Dubai Production City, which residents call IMPZ, has no secondary campus inside its boundary. Students travel to Motor City, Dubai Investments Park, Al Barsha and Jebel Ali, and the schools they attend do not all use the same board. In a school entering candidates with both, the board can differ by subject, so a report card carrying 9-1 grades beside A*-G grades is not an error. It is two boards.

That matters more in mathematics than anywhere else, because the syllabuses diverge in content emphasis and the papers are structured differently. Revising from Cambridge past papers for a Pearson entry wastes a term. Practising the Extended content when the student is entered for Core wastes energy on material that will not appear. Both happen regularly, and both are avoidable with one email to the exams officer.

So this page is written at syllabus level. What each paper contains, where the mark schemes catch students topic by topic, what a tier decision actually costs, and what a serious past-paper programme looks like as opposed to simply doing more papers. These are things a parent can verify, which is more than can be said for most claims in this market.

Delivery is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run in India only. For mathematics the online format has a particular benefit: a shared digital whiteboard keeps every worked solution, so a student revising in the spring is reading their own tutor's working rather than reconstructing it from a notebook.

Everything here was reviewed in October 2026. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson runs May/June and November. Where a timetable is involved, read the board's own live PDF rather than any restatement, including this one.

One habit is worth stating before the detail begins, because it underlies most of what follows. In mathematics, marks are awarded for visible reasoning as well as for the right answer, and the mark scheme lists those method marks separately. A student who does the algebra mentally and writes only the result is giving away marks they had already earned, on every paper, in every tier, on both boards. Fixing that one habit usually recovers more than any topic revision, and it is where we start.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three mathematics qualifications appear in this cluster at this stage, and they are frequently confused with one another. The distinction between a tier and a separate syllabus is the one that causes the most trouble.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

Tiered Core and Extended. Core covers number, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry at a basic level, statistics and probability, with a grade ceiling of C. Extended adds functions, harder algebraic manipulation, more demanding trigonometry including the sine and cosine rules, vectors and transformations. Each tier is assessed by two written papers sat at the end of the course.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise. Ask your Production City child's exams officer for the zone in writing before planning any revision schedule around published dates.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Tiered Foundation and Higher, graded 9-1, assessed by two written papers per tier. Higher tier content includes algebraic fractions, functions and their inverses, calculus at an introductory level in some specifications, vectors and advanced trigonometry. Foundation tier has a grade ceiling in line with Pearson's published tier arrangements for the qualification.

Pearson publishes provisional timetables for sessions a year ahead and revises them, so plan against the live official PDF. Results dates matter for Dubai resit decisions: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics

A separate qualification rather than a tier, taken alongside 0580 Extended by a small and strong cohort. Content includes functions, the quadratic discriminant, simultaneous equations with non-linear terms, binomial expansion, trigonometric identities, differentiation, integration and kinematics. It is the closest thing to A Level Mathematics available at sixteen.

The cohort sitting 0606 in any single Dubai community is small, which is why genuinely experienced 0606 tutors are scarce locally and why the subject is one of the clearest cases for online matching. A student taking it is usually heading for A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics and benefits enormously from the head start.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Topic by topic, where IGCSE mathematics marks actually disappear. These notes are drawn from marking student scripts rather than from a syllabus summary, and they apply across both boards unless stated.

Number: bounds and estimation

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Upper and lower bounds produce more lost marks per question than any other number topic. Students round rather than bound, or take the upper bound of a denominator when calculating a maximum. The correction is mechanical and takes one session, and it reappears on both papers.

Algebra: manipulation and rearrangement

Extended and Higher

Changing the subject of a formula where the subject appears twice, and simplifying algebraic fractions. Marks go missing because students work in their heads and write only the result, forfeiting method marks the mark scheme awards separately from the answer.

Algebra: quadratics

Extended and Higher

Factorising, completing the square and the quadratic formula. The recurring loss is a student using the formula where the question clearly wanted completed square form for a minimum point, then having no way to answer the second part of the question at all.

Trigonometry: non-right-angled

Extended and Higher

Sine rule, cosine rule and area of a triangle. Two failures dominate: choosing the wrong rule because the given information was not labelled on a sketch, and the ambiguous case of the sine rule where two answers exist and only one is given.

Geometry: circle theorems

Extended and Higher

High-frequency and high-return. The marks are for naming the theorem used, not merely for the correct angle, so a student who reaches the right number without writing angle in the same segment loses reasoning marks that were available for free.

Mensuration and similarity

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Area and volume scale factors are the standard trap: students apply the length scale factor to a volume. Writing the ratio as a cube before substituting prevents it entirely, and it appears in some form on most papers.

Statistics: cumulative frequency and histograms

Extended and Higher

Frequency density is the single most misunderstood quantity in the qualification. Students plot frequency against unequal class widths and lose every mark on the question. Reading a median or interquartile range off a cumulative frequency curve needs the plot at the upper class boundary.

Vectors and transformations

Extended and Higher

Column vector arithmetic is straightforward; describing a transformation fully is not. A rotation needs the angle, the direction and the centre, and an answer giving two of the three scores partially. Enlargement needs the scale factor and the centre.

Probability: tree and Venn diagrams

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Conditional probability without replacement is where the grade is decided at the top of the tier. Students reuse the original denominator on the second branch. Drawing the tree with denominators written in before any multiplication removes the error.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, chosen by what the student's script shows rather than by what the report card says. The diagnostic comes first in all three.

Tier decision and foundation repair

A short block in Year 10 when the Core-or-Extended, Foundation-or-Higher decision is still genuinely open. The student attempts timed questions from both tiers and the decision is made from the scripts. Alongside it, the prior-knowledge gaps that make the higher tier look impossible get closed, because they are usually fractions and negative numbers rather than anything advanced.

  • Timed questions from both tiers attempted, not discussed
  • Prior-knowledge gaps identified and closed in dependency order
  • Written summary of the evidence to take to the school
  • Honest recommendation, including when the lower tier is the right call

Weekly topic consolidation

One session a week following the school's teaching order, consolidating each topic within a fortnight of it being taught. Mathematics is cumulative, so a gap left in Year 10 does not sit still; it compounds. This is the cheapest pattern per mark recovered and the one almost nobody books, because nothing feels urgent in Year 10.

  • Session content follows the school scheme of work week by week
  • Every worked solution saved on a shared whiteboard for later revision
  • Short written note on the topic covered and the work set
  • Fixed weekday slot from 5:30pm Gulf Standard Time for commuters

Past-paper and mark-scheme block

Timed questions and whole papers marked against the published mark scheme rather than against a model answer, with a categorised error log. Marking properly is the part most students skip, and it is the part that produces improvement, because it shows which specific marks their own script earned and which it did not.

  • Topic questions first, then whole sections, then full papers late
  • Marked point by point for method marks as well as answers
  • Error log categorised by topic, notation and timing
  • Board-matched papers only; a wrong-board paper is practice for nothing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Production City

01

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, compared properly

The two syllabuses running in Dubai British-curriculum schools are not interchangeable, and the differences go beyond the grading scale. Cambridge 0580 tiers into Core and Extended with Core capped at grade C. Pearson 4MA1 Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher and reports on the 9-1 scale. Both assess by two written papers per tier, and both allow a calculator in line with their own published arrangements, which the school confirms.

Content emphasis differs in ways that change revision priorities. Cambridge Extended places weight on functions, transformations and vectors; Pearson Higher gives more attention to algebraic fractions, inverse and composite functions, and in some entry patterns introductory calculus. A student moving between schools mid-course, which happens often in this cluster, can meet a topic they have never been taught and miss one they have already mastered.

Grading creates confusion on a Dubai report card. A student holding 9-1 grades in two subjects and A*-G grades in three is not inconsistent; they are entered with two boards, which schools running both do routinely. Nobody volunteers this, so it is worth asking directly and getting the answer in writing.

The operational consequence is simple and strict. Revise with past papers from the board of entry only. A Cambridge paper is excellent practice for a Cambridge candidate and a misleading use of an afternoon for a Pearson one, because question phrasing, mark allocation patterns and the balance of topics all differ. The exams officer can confirm the entry in a single line, and that line should precede any revision plan a family pays for.

02

The tier decision, and what a ceiling actually costs

Cambridge 0580 Core is capped at grade C. That is the single most consequential fact in IGCSE mathematics and it is often explained to families late, vaguely, or not at all. A student on Core who works hard and performs at the very top of the tier still cannot be awarded a B, and if their sixth-form entry requirement is a B or a grade 6, the tier has already decided the outcome.

The decision is genuinely open in the first term of Year 10 and narrows every term afterwards. By the second term of Year 11 a move up is close to impossible, because Extended content the student never met has to be learned alongside revision of everything else. So the decision should be made early and on evidence: a timed paper from each tier, marked properly, with the scripts on the table.

There is a real case for the lower tier and we will make it when it applies. A student who is genuinely insecure on number and basic algebra will score more marks, more reliably, on Core than they will on Extended, and a secure C is worth more than a scattered E. The error is not choosing the lower tier; it is choosing it without knowing about the ceiling, or choosing the higher tier out of anxiety when the foundations are not there.

What usually makes the higher tier viable is not advanced work at all. It is fractions, negative numbers, index laws and rearrangement. Close those four and a student who looked incapable of Extended frequently turns out to have been missing Year 8 rather than Year 11, which is both the good news and the reason the decision needs evidence rather than impressions.

TIER DECISION, EVIDENCE AND TIMING
When the decision is madeHow open it isWhat evidence to useRisk if taken wrongly
Year 10, first termFully openTimed paper from each tier, marked properlyLow; a move either way is still practical

03

Where the mark schemes actually catch students

  • Method marks: write the step, or forfeit marks already earned mentally
  • Frequency density: plot density, never raw frequency, against unequal widths
  • Scale factors: cube the length ratio before substituting for a volume
  • Sine rule: check for the ambiguous case and give both solutions where asked
  • Circle theorems: name the theorem, because the reasoning mark is for the name
  • Conditional probability: write the denominators on the tree before multiplying

Marking student scripts rather than reading syllabus summaries produces a short, repetitive list. The same errors appear across both boards and both tiers, and most of them are notational or procedural rather than conceptual, which is why they are worth attacking first: they are quick to fix and they recur on every paper.

Method marks are the largest single loss. The mark scheme awards visible reasoning separately from the final answer, so a student who rearranges an equation mentally and writes only the result forfeits marks they genuinely earned. In a two-paper qualification, establishing the habit of writing the step is worth more than most topic revision, and it takes two or three sessions of deliberate practice to establish.

Then come the specific traps. Frequency density, where students plot raw frequency against unequal class widths and lose the whole question. Volume scale factors, where the length ratio is applied instead of its cube. The ambiguous case of the sine rule, where two answers exist and one is given. Circle theorems, where the reasoning mark requires naming the theorem rather than merely reaching the angle. Conditional probability without replacement, where the first denominator is reused on the second branch.

None of these is hard to teach. All of them are invisible in classwork, because a student doing an exercise on circle theorems knows which theorem the exercise is about. They only surface in a mixed paper under timing, which is exactly why past-paper work has to be timed and mixed rather than topic-by-topic all the way to the exam.

04

A past-paper programme that is more than doing papers

  • Mark against the published mark scheme, not an answer key
  • Topic questions first, mixed sections next, full papers last
  • Every attempt timed, because the traps only appear under time pressure
  • Error log categorised by topic, notation and timing
  • Papers from the board of entry only; we do not distribute board material

Most students do past papers, mark them against the answers, note the score and move on. That produces a plateau after three or four papers, which families then read as a ceiling on ability. It is not. It is a marking problem.

Marking against the published mark scheme rather than an answer key is the difference. A mark scheme shows which marks a specific script earned and which it missed: this line earned the method mark, this one did not, this answer needed the unit to score. That is diagnostic information. A score out of eighty is not. A student who finds that two thirds of their lost marks are method marks has a completely different problem from one whose losses cluster in statistics.

Sequence matters as well. Topic questions first, while the content is fresh from the school lesson. Then mixed sections under timing, because mixing is what reveals the traps that topic practice hides. Then full papers, late in the process, when the student can actually finish one. A full paper attempted in October mostly teaches a Year 11 student that they cannot yet sit a full paper.

We do not reproduce or distribute Cambridge or Pearson past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, which are copyright material. We work from papers your child or their school legitimately holds and reference the official source. Any provider offering a downloadable library of mark schemes is distributing material they do not own.

05

Additional Mathematics 0606, and who should take it

  • 0606 is a separate qualification, not a tier of 0580
  • Content includes differentiation, integration, binomial expansion and kinematics
  • It is the strongest available preparation for A Level Mathematics
  • The honest filter is comfortable top-of-Extended performance on 0580
  • Local 0606 tutoring supply is thin because the cohort in each community is small

Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics is a separate qualification rather than a tier of 0580, and it is routinely confused with one. It is taken alongside 0580 Extended by a small, strong cohort, usually in Year 11, and it covers functions, the quadratic discriminant, non-linear simultaneous equations, binomial expansion, trigonometric identities, differentiation, integration and kinematics.

It is the best preparation available at sixteen for A Level Mathematics, and for a student heading towards engineering, physics, economics or mathematics itself, that head start is substantial. Students who have met differentiation at IGCSE arrive in Year 12 able to concentrate on the new abstraction rather than on the mechanics. Those who have not spend the first term catching up.

It is not for everybody, and the honest filter is 0580 Extended performance. A student who is comfortably scoring at the top of Extended will manage 0606 and benefit from it. A student who is working hard for a B on Extended will usually do better putting that time into securing the Extended grade, because 0606 is genuinely demanding and a poor grade in it helps nobody.

The practical difficulty in this cluster is supply. The 0606 cohort in any single Dubai community is small, so the number of local tutors who have actually taught it is small too, and the number free on a weekday evening in IMPZ is smaller again. It is one of the clearest cases in the whole subject for matching on expertise rather than geography.

06

What maths tuition costs in this part of Dubai

Start with what the market actually charges, because almost nobody in this search publishes it. Three of the six main competitor pages in our research give no price at all and two quote US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. The figures below were read in October 2026 from competitor pages and the Bestimate 2026 Dubai rate table, and they describe the market rather than our prices.

Budget and university-student tutors advertise from AED 45 an hour, with EdFlik listing AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Qualified subject tutors online run roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists sit at AED 200-450, with TutorChase quoting AED 270, and premium or examiner-led tutors reach AED 500-650 or more. In-home one-to-one runs roughly AED 180-350, rising to AED 500 at specialist levels.

For IGCSE mathematics specifically, the band a family needs is narrower than the range suggests. A Core or Foundation student who needs procedural practice and somebody to check their working is well served at the lower end, and paying specialist rates for that is money wasted. A Higher or Extended student working on bounds, functions, the ambiguous case and conditional probability under timing needs mark-scheme fluency, which sits in the middle band rather than the premium one.

Context is useful. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. We publish no price list on these pages; we start with a free trial lesson and a conversation about which band the actual problem sits in.

Permits, regulators and the coursework boundary

  • KHDA inspection reports for every Dubai private school are public and free
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, valid two years, under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No official fine schedule for unpermitted tutoring is published
  • Tutors give feedback on the student's own work and never produce assessed work
  • IB Gram holds no regulator approval, accreditation or UAE premises

Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, with annual inspections published on a six-band scale. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah has SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Individual tutors need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its app, website or e-services system. u.ae states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

Mathematics carries little assessed coursework at IGCSE, but the honesty boundary still applies to school-set tasks and investigations. A tutor teaches the skills, explains what the criteria reward, and gives feedback on drafts the student wrote. A tutor does not write, rewrite or complete the work. We also do not reproduce board syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes.

IB Gram is not KHDA approved, Cambridge accredited or Pearson approved, holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a specific licence for training institutes with premises, and has no UAE office. Ask any provider calling itself approved which permit it means; the precise answer is informative.

Starting with the syllabus code in hand

  • Send the syllabus code, the tier, the next assessment date and a marked paper
  • Free trial lesson on the current sticking point, with a written note afterwards
  • One free rematch if the first tutor is not the right fit
  • Availability given as a date; 0606 can take a week or more
  • No UAE home visits; home tutoring is an India-only service for us

Send four things and the match becomes exact rather than approximate: the syllabus code, the tier, the next assessment date, and a recent marked paper. The code and tier come from the exams officer in one email. The marked paper is worth more than a report card, because it shows whether the losses are method marks, specific topics or timing, and those three need different work.

Then take the free trial lesson, which is a real teaching hour on this week's sticking point rather than a consultation. You get a short written note afterwards on what the tutor found, in topic and mark-scheme terms. No card is held, nothing renews, and if the match is wrong we rematch once at no charge.

On availability we give dates. Mainstream 0580 and 4MA1 matches are usually two to three days. 0606 Additional Mathematics is thinner and can run to a week or more, because the cohort is small and so is the pool of tutors who have taught it. If the specialist is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, we say so before you book rather than afterwards.

Production City sessions usually land at 5:30pm Gulf Standard Time or later on weekdays, with weekend mornings better for full timed papers. During Ramadan, post-Iftar slots are a normal request and the slot is held. What we will not do, in IMPZ or anywhere in the UAE, is send a tutor to your address; that service runs in India only.

Where we tutor

Which board the campuses around Production City actually use

Six neighbouring communities, noted for what a mathematics student needs from each. The useful variable here is the campus and its board, not the housing stock.

Dubai Production City (IMPZ)

No campus inside the community, so a student's board depends entirely on which school the bus serves. Families here are more likely than most to have two children on two different boards.

Dubai Investments Park

Greenfield International School sits here. Students on an IB continuum pathway meet criterion-based mathematics rather than tiered IGCSE, which changes what support they need entirely.

Al Furjan

Arbor School inside the community serves a British curriculum cohort. Strong local demand for Extended and Higher tier work, and the community where 0606 Additional Mathematics enquiries are most frequent.

Discovery Gardens

Dense and large, with a substantial Year 10 and 11 population. Demand concentrates on Core and Foundation tier support, where the priority is securing the available grades rather than chasing an A*.

Jebel Ali

The Winchester School Jebel Ali and Delhi Private School Dubai serve this area. Long bus routes mean students are often home after five, making six o'clock the honest first weekday slot.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The longest school day in the cluster. Weekend morning sessions work better here than weekday evenings for the sustained concentration a timed paper demands.

Green Community

Low-density enclave within Dubai Investments Park, a short run from Greenfield. The one adjacent community where a weekday session before five is realistic through the term.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Production City

Motor City, Sports City and Dubai Investments Park

The nearest campuses to Production City. Mostly British curriculum at secondary, so Cambridge and Pearson both appear, sometimes in the same school. Confirming which board applies to mathematics specifically is the first step for any family from this ring.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Greenfield International School
  • Renaissance School Dubai
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Jebel Ali, Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Large established campuses on long bus routes. A mix of British and Indian curriculum, so households here sometimes have one child on IGCSE mathematics and another on a CBSE syllabus in the same term, with different topic orders and different holidays.

  • The Winchester School Jebel Ali
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • Arbor School
  • The Apple International School
  • Bright Riders School

Schools are named as the educational context families in this area work within. IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the syllabus code and tier in writing

One email to the exams officer: board, syllabus code, tier and series for mathematics. Cambridge 0580 Core is capped at grade C and Pearson 4MA1 is Foundation and Higher on a 9-1 scale, so the answer changes both the revision material and what grade is achievable at all.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper, not a grade

A marked script shows whether the losses are method marks, particular topics or running out of time. Those three need different plans and different numbers of hours. A report card shows only that something is wrong, which is the one thing you already knew before searching.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson, then decide

A real teaching hour on this week's sticking point, followed by a short written note on what the tutor found in topic and mark-scheme terms. No card held, nothing renews. If the match is wrong, say so and we rematch once at no charge.

  4. 04

Fix the habit before the content

In the first sessions we establish the habit of writing the method step, because the mark scheme awards visible reasoning separately from the answer. For most students this single change recovers more marks than any topic revision, and it applies to both papers in both tiers.

  5. 05

    Move to mixed timed papers

Topic practice hides the traps, because a student doing circle theorem exercises knows the topic. Mixed questions under timing is what exposes frequency density, scale factors and the ambiguous case, and that is when the error log becomes genuinely useful.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus code

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams with different tiers, different grading and different content emphasis. We ask for the code before matching anybody, because a student revising from the wrong board's past papers is practising for an exam nobody is sitting.

The tier ceiling explained early

Core on 0580 is capped at grade C. Families are frequently told this late or not at all, and by the second term of Year 11 a move up is close to impossible. We make the decision on timed scripts from both tiers, and we will recommend the lower tier when the evidence supports it.

Marked against mark schemes

Work is marked point by point against the published mark scheme, not an answer key, so a student sees which marks their own script earned. A score out of eighty tells a family nothing diagnostic; a breakdown showing two thirds of losses are method marks tells them exactly what to do.

0606 taught by people who have taught it

Additional Mathematics is a separate qualification with a small cohort, so local supply is thin and generalists often take it on. We match on actual 0606 experience and tell you honestly when the wait is a week, rather than filling the slot with somebody learning it alongside your child.

Honest about which band you need

A Core student needing procedural drill does not need a specialist at AED 200-450 an hour, and we say so. Budget tutors advertise from AED 45. Paying premium rates for practice that a cheaper tutor could supervise competently is the most common overspend in this market.

A saved archive of worked solutions

Online delivery keeps a shared whiteboard record of every solution, which matters in a cumulative subject. Spring revision starts from the student's own October working rather than from a textbook and a vague memory of how the method went.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Production City: your questions answered

Is Cambridge Core really capped at grade C?+

Yes. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 tiers into Core and Extended, and Core carries a grade ceiling of C. A student on Core who performs at the very top of the tier still cannot be awarded a B. If their sixth-form entry requirement is a B or a grade 6, the tier has effectively decided the outcome before any revision begins. This is the single most consequential fact in the subject and it is often explained to families late, vaguely or not at all, so ask the exams officer which tier your child is entered for.

Can my son still move from Core up to Extended in Year 11?+

Technically sometimes, practically rarely after the first term. Extended content he has never met would have to be learned alongside revision of everything else, which is a very hard year. The decision is genuinely open in the first term of Year 10 and narrows every term afterwards. If a move is being considered, ask the school for a timed Extended paper, have it marked properly, and decide from the script. What usually makes Extended viable is not advanced work but fractions, negative numbers, index laws and rearrangement.

How do I find out whether my child sits 0580 or 4MA1?+

Email the exams officer and ask for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the series, in writing. In a Dubai school entering candidates with both boards, mathematics can be on one and the sciences on another, which is why a report card can show 9-1 grades beside A*-G grades without anything being wrong. Nobody volunteers this information. It matters because question phrasing, mark allocation and topic balance all differ, so revising from the wrong board's past papers is a wasted term rather than a wasted afternoon.

What is the most common avoidable loss in IGCSE maths papers?+

Unwritten method. The mark scheme awards visible reasoning separately from the final answer, so a student who rearranges an equation in their head and writes only the result forfeits marks they genuinely earned. It is a habit rather than a knowledge problem, which means it can be established in two or three sessions of deliberate practice, and across two written papers it recovers more marks for most students than any single topic revision would. We attack it before content in almost every case.

Why does my daughter lose every mark on histogram questions?+

Almost certainly frequency density. Where class widths are unequal, the vertical axis must be frequency density, calculated as frequency divided by class width, not raw frequency. A student who plots frequency loses the entire question rather than part of it, which is why it looks catastrophic on a script. It is a ten-minute fix conceptually and then needs three or four questions of practice to become automatic. Reading a median or interquartile range from a cumulative frequency curve has a companion rule: plot at the upper class boundary.

What is the ambiguous case of the sine rule and why does it matter?+

When the sine rule is used to find an angle, there are often two valid answers in the range, because sine takes the same value at an angle and at its supplement. Students find one, write it down and lose the second mark. Whether both are required depends on the question and on any diagram given, which is exactly the judgement the mark scheme is testing. The habit to build is to check whether the obtuse solution is geometrically possible before committing, and to state both when the question allows them.

Is 0606 worth adding for a Production City student heading to A Level?+

Only if they are comfortably scoring at the top of 0580 Extended. 0606 is a separate qualification rather than a tier, covering functions, the discriminant, binomial expansion, trigonometric identities, differentiation, integration and kinematics, and it is the strongest preparation for A Level Mathematics available at sixteen. For a student working hard for a B on Extended, the same hours are better spent securing that grade. Local tutoring supply for 0606 is genuinely thin because the cohort in any one Dubai community is small, so match on experience rather than proximity.

How should past papers actually be used?+

Marked against the published mark scheme rather than an answer key, under timing, and in the right order. Topic questions first while the school content is fresh, then mixed sections under time pressure, then full papers late in the process. Mixing is what exposes the traps that topic practice hides, because a student doing circle theorem exercises already knows the topic. Keep a categorised error log: a student who learns that two thirds of their losses are method marks has a completely different problem from one whose losses sit in statistics.

Will you send us Cambridge or Pearson past papers and mark schemes?+

No. Board past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables are copyright material and we neither reproduce nor distribute them. We reference the official source, link to it, and work from papers your child or their school legitimately holds. Your child's mathematics teacher can supply past papers through the proper channel, and that is the route to use. Any provider offering a downloadable library of mark schemes is distributing material it does not own, which is worth noticing for what else it might be casual about.

Does my child need a different calculator for each board?+

Check with the school rather than assuming, because both boards publish their own permitted-calculator arrangements and schools apply them. What matters more in practice is fluency with whichever model your child actually uses: the difference between a student who can compute a standard deviation and a trigonometric value in degrees and radians without hesitation, and one who hunts through menus mid-paper, is minutes rather than marks in principle but marks in reality. We check device fluency explicitly in the first sessions, because it is invisible in classwork.

What does weekly maths tuition cost in Dubai Production City?+

The Dubai market band for a qualified subject tutor online is roughly AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Budget and university-student tutors advertise from AED 45, with EdFlik at AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, which is genuinely enough for Core or Foundation drill. Specialists sit at AED 200-450, with TutorChase at AED 270. Those figures were read in October 2026 from competitor pages and the Bestimate Dubai rate table and describe the market rather than our price list, which is why we start with a free trial lesson.

Do you send a maths tutor to our building in IMPZ?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE lessons as one-to-one live video, and home visiting is a service we run in India only. For mathematics the online format has a specific advantage: the shared whiteboard keeps every worked solution, so spring revision starts from the student's own tutor's working rather than a half-remembered notebook page. Independent home tutors do work in this area at roughly AED 180-350 an hour, and for a younger child who needs a hand kept on the page they can genuinely be the better choice.

When can sessions start for a Year 11 student commuting out of Production City?+

Realistically from 5:30pm Gulf Standard Time on weekdays. With no secondary campus inside Dubai Production City, students bus to Motor City, Dubai Investments Park, Al Barsha or Jebel Ali and are typically home between four and half past, needing food and a break before anything demanding. Dubai South and Emaar South families often need six o'clock or later. Weekend mornings are better for full timed papers, which need sustained concentration that a weekday evening after a long bus day rarely supports.

Which exam sittings are open to a Dubai IGCSE maths candidate?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, and the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, warning it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise. Ask your exams officer which zone applies.

Are private maths tutors in Dubai required to hold a permit?+

Yes. A MoHRE private tuition work permit is required, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its app, website or e-services system. u.ae states that tutoring without the permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so distrust any amount quoted to you.

The code and the tier come first

Everything useful follows from two answers. Which syllabus is your child entered for, and which tier? A Cambridge 0580 Core candidate has a grade ceiling of C and should be revising Core material from Cambridge papers. A Pearson 4MA1 Higher candidate is on a 9-1 scale with a different content emphasis and needs Pearson papers. Get both answers in writing from the exams officer, send a recent marked script, and take a free trial lesson. Then the hours go into method marks, frequency density and the ambiguous case rather than into generic practice.
