IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Production City

The first question an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Production City should ask is which science qualification your child is entered for. Combined Science, Coordinated Sciences and three separate sciences are different awards with different codes, different content depth and different practical papers. Most families do not know which they have. IB Gram teaches Production City students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched to the syllabus code and the practical route, not just to science
  • Separate specialists for biology, chemistry and physics where needed
  • Timed questions marked against the published mark scheme, point by point
  • Free trial lesson on the topic your child is stuck on this week

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Production City

Three different science awards, and nobody tells you which one you have

Before any tutoring conversation, a Production City family needs to know which science qualification their child is sitting. Cambridge offers Combined Science, which is a single award covering all three sciences at reduced depth; Coordinated Sciences, syllabus 0654, which is a double award covering all three at greater depth; and three separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, each a full award in its own right. Pearson has its own equivalents, including Science Double Award and the separate 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1.

These are not variations on a theme. They differ in content depth, in the number of papers, in how many grades appear on the certificate and in what sixth-form entry they support. A student on Combined Science who intends to take A Level Chemistry may find they have not covered material the course assumes. A student on separate sciences has three times the content to revise and three sets of papers to pace. Tutoring planned without knowing which award is in play is tutoring planned for somebody else's child.

The second question nobody asks is the practical route. Cambridge science syllabuses offer a practical test and an alternative-to-practical paper, and the school chooses which one candidates are entered for. That choice changes what needs practising entirely: an alternative-to-practical paper assesses experimental design, apparatus recognition, data handling and evaluation on paper, while a practical test assesses the student doing it. Both are teachable, and they are not the same preparation.

Dubai Production City, which residents call IMPZ, has no secondary campus inside its boundary. Students travel to Motor City, Dubai Investments Park, Al Barsha and Jebel Ali, and those schools do not all use the same board or the same award route. In a household with two children at two campuses, both studying science, the answers can differ.

This page is written at syllabus level because that is what a parent can verify. What each award contains, which practical route does what, where marks disappear in each of the three sciences, and what past-paper practice should look like. Delivery is one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run in India only.

Everything here was reviewed in October 2026. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running to 19 November 2026. Where a timetable is involved, read the board's own live PDF rather than any restatement, including this one, because a restated date is only as current as the page it sits on.

Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences

A double award covering biology, chemistry and physics in one integrated syllabus, producing two grades on the certificate. Content depth sits between Combined Science and the separate sciences, and the paper structure covers all three disciplines in each paper. It is the most common route in Dubai British-curriculum schools for students who want science breadth without three full awards.

Because each paper spans three disciplines, a Production City student with one weak science cannot avoid it the way a separate-sciences candidate could by prioritising. That makes targeted work on a single weak discipline unusually valuable here, and it is the reason Coordinated candidates often need subject-specific rather than general science tutoring.

Cambridge IGCSE separate sciences

Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 taken as three full awards, each tiered Core and Extended with Core capped at grade C. Content depth is greatest here, and each subject has its own papers plus a practical component. Three awards means three grades and significantly more revision, which is both the strength and the cost.

Separate sciences are the standard route for a Dubai student heading towards A Level sciences or medicine, and sixth forms in this emirate frequently prefer them. The practical consequence for a Production City family is three sets of papers to pace in the same study leave, which is a timetabling problem as much as a content one.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences

Pearson offers Science Double Award alongside separate Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1, graded 9-1 and untiered in the International GCSE sciences. Practical skills are assessed within the written papers rather than through a separate practical test, which changes revision priorities compared with Cambridge.

Pearson publishes provisional timetables for sessions a year ahead and revises them, so plan against the live official PDF. Results dates drive the Dubai resit conversation: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The science content that generates the most requests in this cluster, with the specific place marks go missing. The same topics recur across combined, coordinated and separate routes at different depths.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended, all routes

Current, potential difference, resistance, series and parallel circuits. The reliable loss is explaining a change in brightness without naming the quantity that changed. Calculating total resistance in parallel is the second, usually from adding resistances rather than reciprocals.

Physics: forces and motion

Core and Extended, all routes

Speed, acceleration, the equations of motion, moments and pressure. Moments questions are lost on omitting the distance from the pivot or on mixing units. Graph questions need the gradient interpreted as a named quantity, not just calculated.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended and separate routes

Relative formula mass, moles, concentration and reacting masses. This is the gate in chemistry: a student who is slow here loses marks across the whole paper. Unit confusion between cubic centimetres and cubic decimetres is the most expensive single slip.

Chemistry: electrolysis

Core and Extended, all routes

Products at each electrode, half equations and the effect of the electrolyte. Marks go missing on half equations written without balanced charges, and on predicting products without reference to the reactivity of the ions present.

Chemistry: organic and rates

Extended and separate routes

Homologous series, addition and substitution, plus reaction rate and catalysts. Rate explanations lose marks when a student writes that particles move faster without naming collision frequency or the proportion with sufficient energy.

Biology: transport in plants and animals

Core and Extended, all routes

Xylem and phloem, transpiration, the circulatory system and gas exchange. The volume of terminology is the difficulty. Students describe a structure where the question asked how the structure's features suit its function, which is a different answer.

Biology: homeostasis and coordination

Extended and separate routes

Temperature and blood glucose control, the nervous system and hormones. Negative feedback questions need the receptor, the coordinator, the effector and the correction named in order; students name two of the four and lose half the marks.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

Core and Extended, all routes

Monohybrid inheritance, genetic diagrams, variation and selection. Genetic cross questions are lost on not defining the allele symbols used, which the mark scheme requires, and on omitting the phenotype ratio when asked for it.

Practical and investigative skills

All routes

Variable control, apparatus choice, tabulating results, plotting, drawing a line of best fit, calculating a gradient and evaluating a method. Assessed through the practical paper on Cambridge routes and inside the written papers on Pearson, and worth targeting as its own skill either way.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, chosen by the award route and by what the script shows. A Coordinated candidate and a separate-sciences candidate need genuinely different arrangements.

Single-discipline repair inside a double award

For a Coordinated Sciences or Combined Science candidate with one weak discipline. Because every paper spans all three sciences, a weak physics strand cannot be avoided by prioritising elsewhere, so targeted work on that one discipline lifts every paper. One session a week on the weak science, taught by a specialist in it.

  • Specialist in the weak discipline, not a general science tutor
  • Content mapped to the depth the double award actually requires
  • Mixed questions so the weak strand is practised in context
  • Error log showing whether the losses are content or command term

Separate sciences, paced across three subjects

For a student sitting three full awards, where the problem is often timetabling rather than any single subject. Sessions rotate by priority, set from component marks rather than impressions, and the revision schedule is built so three sets of papers in one study leave do not collide. This is as much planning work as teaching work.

  • Priority order set from component marks across the three subjects
  • Revision schedule built around the actual exam timetable
  • Specialists used for whichever subject is costing most marks
  • Shared error log so command-term work transfers across all three

Practical paper preparation

Targeted work on whichever practical route the school entered the student for. For an alternative-to-practical paper that means apparatus recognition, variable control, tabulation, plotting, gradients and evaluation, all on paper. For a practical test it means the same skills plus rehearsing the procedural sequence. Both are teachable and they are different preparations.

  • Route confirmed with the exams officer before any work begins
  • Graph skills drilled: axes, scales, best fit, gradient as a named quantity
  • Variable control and evaluation phrased the way the mark scheme awards
  • Apparatus recognition practised from diagrams, not from memory

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Production City

01

Combined, coordinated or separate: find out which award you have

This is the single most useful thing a Production City family can establish, and it takes one email. Cambridge Combined Science is a single award covering all three sciences at reduced depth, producing one grade. Coordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award covering all three at greater depth, producing two grades. The separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, are three full awards producing three grades.

The consequences run in several directions. Content depth differs, so a student on Combined Science has genuinely not met material that a separate-sciences candidate has. Grade count differs, which matters for a sixth-form application counting subjects. Revision volume differs by a factor of two or more. And sixth-form entry preferences differ, with many Dubai sixth forms preferring separate sciences for A Level science routes.

Pearson's structure is parallel but not identical. It offers Science Double Award alongside separate Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1, graded 9-1, and the International GCSE sciences are untiered rather than split into Core and Extended. A student moving between a Cambridge school and a Pearson school mid-course can meet content they were never taught and lose content they had already mastered.

So ask the exams officer for the board, the syllabus code, the tier where one applies, and the series, in writing, per science. Then bring that to any tutoring conversation. We match on the code because a Coordinated candidate and a separate Physics candidate need different depth on the same topic, and a tutor working at the wrong depth wastes the hour in both directions.

02

The practical route, and why it changes what you revise

Cambridge science syllabuses offer two practical assessment routes, and the school chooses which one candidates sit. One is a practical test in which the student performs an experiment under exam conditions. The other is an alternative-to-practical paper which assesses the same skills on paper: recognising apparatus from a diagram, identifying variables, completing a results table, plotting, drawing a line of best fit, calculating a gradient and evaluating a method.

Most Dubai families do not know which route their child is entered for, and it changes revision priorities substantially. Preparing for an alternative-to-practical paper is paper work, and it is among the most learnable components in the whole qualification because the question types repeat and the mark scheme rewards specific phrasing. Preparing for a practical test adds procedural rehearsal that only a laboratory can supply.

Pearson's International GCSE sciences take a different approach, assessing practical skills within the written papers rather than through a separate practical component. The effect is that practical skill questions are distributed through the paper, so a student cannot prepare for them as a discrete block and has to meet them wherever they appear.

Whichever route applies, the underlying skills are the same and they are badly taught almost everywhere, because they sit between topics rather than inside one. Axes labelled with quantity and unit. Scales chosen so the plotted points use most of the grid. A line of best fit drawn as a line rather than joined dot to dot. A gradient calculated and then named as a physical quantity. Variables identified as independent, dependent and controlled, with the control explained rather than listed.

03

Where marks go missing in each of the three sciences

  • Physics: name the quantity, relationship, direction and effect, in that order
  • Physics: parallel resistance uses reciprocals; moments need the distance from the pivot
  • Chemistry: mole fluency underpins the whole paper and is worth drilling first
  • Chemistry: balance equations, include state symbols, balance charges in half equations
  • Biology: features suiting function is a different answer from describing the structure
  • Biology: negative feedback needs receptor, coordinator, effector and correction

Across hundreds of scripts, the losses in IGCSE science concentrate in a short list, and the list differs by subject. Knowing which applies to your child turns a vague revision plan into a specific one, and it is the first thing a timed paper reveals.

In physics, the pattern is explanation structure and unit discipline. A student who says a lamp gets dimmer because more current goes elsewhere has described the result and named nothing the mark scheme can credit. The fix is to name the quantity that changed, the relationship, the direction and then the effect. Moments questions lose marks on omitted distances; parallel resistance questions lose them on adding resistances rather than reciprocals.

In chemistry, the pattern is quantitative fluency and equation discipline. Mole reasoning underpins reacting masses, concentration and electrolysis calculations, and a student who is slow at it loses marks across the whole paper. Half equations written without balanced charges, state symbols omitted and unbalanced equations are the standard notational losses.

In biology, the pattern is terminology and command terms. The content volume is the real difficulty rather than its conceptual depth, and the mark schemes are precise about vocabulary. Students also answer the wrong question: asked how a structure's features suit its function, they describe the structure. Negative feedback questions need receptor, coordinator, effector and correction named in order, and most students supply two of the four. Genetic cross questions carry a similar requirement, since the mark scheme expects the allele symbols to be defined before the diagram is drawn, and a student who omits the definitions loses marks on a cross they completed perfectly.

04

Command terms do the same work in IGCSE as at Diploma level

  • State wants a fact; explain wants a named reason or mechanism
  • Compare needs both items in the same statement, not two separate accounts
  • Calculate requires visible working, which carries method marks
  • Allocate roughly a minute per mark and check the mark value before starting
  • Command-term work transfers across all three sciences and every paper

The highest-return teaching in IGCSE science is not a topic. It is reading the instruction. State wants a fact. Describe wants an account of what happens or what features exist. Explain wants a reason or a mechanism named. Suggest wants a plausible answer where more than one is defensible. Calculate wants working shown as well as an answer. Compare wants both things referred to in the same sentence.

The arithmetic of getting this wrong is simple and brutal. A student writing a paragraph for a one-mark state question has spent two minutes earning one mark, and will be short of time on the six-mark question later. A student describing where the question said explain scores nothing, because there is no line in the mark scheme for an accurate description of the outcome.

Compare questions deserve a specific mention because they are so often half-answered. A compare question needs both items addressed in the same statement: this one is higher than that one, rather than a paragraph about one followed by a paragraph about the other. Students who write two separate accounts frequently score zero on a question they understood completely.

This is also the most transferable thing we can teach. A student sitting three separate sciences gets the benefit in all three papers, and a Coordinated candidate gets it across every paper they sit. Three to five sessions of deliberate structure work, with timed short-answer questions marked against the mark scheme, is usually enough to change it measurably.

05

Past-paper work in three subjects at once

  • Set priority from component marks across all three sciences, not from anxiety
  • Command-term work first when losses look similar in all three subjects
  • Topic questions, then mixed sections, then whole papers, staggered by subject
  • Build the revision schedule against the actual exam timetable, not a generic plan
  • We reference official board material rather than redistributing it

For a separate-sciences candidate the hard part is not any single subject; it is managing three revision programmes and three sets of papers landing in the same study leave. Families usually respond by revising whichever subject feels worst, which concentrates effort where anxiety is highest rather than where marks are most recoverable.

The alternative is to set priority from component marks. Ask the school for component-level results across all three sciences. A student losing most marks to command-term structure across all three has one problem, cheap to fix and worth doing first because it pays three times. A student with a specific content hole in chemistry electrolysis has a different problem, confined to one paper.

Sequence within each subject follows the same rule as elsewhere. Topic questions first, while the school content is fresh. Then mixed sections under timing, because mixing exposes the traps topic practice hides. Then whole papers, late, when the student can complete one without exhaustion. For three subjects, that sequence has to be staggered rather than run in parallel, or the student does twelve weeks of topic questions and no timed papers at all.

We do not reproduce or distribute Cambridge or Pearson past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables, which are copyright material. We reference the official source and work from papers the student or school legitimately holds. Your child's science teachers can supply past papers through the school, which is both legitimate and usually faster.

06

What science tuition costs in this part of Dubai

Science is where the cost question gets genuinely complicated, because three subjects can mean three tutors. A family paying for weekly biology, chemistry and physics support at the specialist band is making a substantial commitment, and in most cases it is not the right purchase.

The Dubai market bands, read in October 2026 from competitor pages and the Bestimate 2026 rate table. Budget or university-student tutors at AED 45-150, with EdFlik listing AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Qualified subject tutors online at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists at AED 200-450, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium or examiner-led from AED 500-650, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home one-to-one at AED 180-350, rising to AED 500.

The better pattern for most families is sequential rather than parallel. Identify from component marks which single science is costing the most, work on that for a defined block with a specialist, then move. Command-term and graph-skill work, which pays across all three, can be bought once rather than three times. That typically halves the spend against three concurrent weekly arrangements and produces more.

Context worth having: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. These are market figures rather than IB Gram prices. We publish no price list here and start with a free trial lesson instead.

Permits, regulators and the honesty boundary

  • KHDA inspection reports for every Dubai private school are public and free
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, valid two years, under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No official fine schedule for unpermitted tutoring is published
  • Tutors give feedback on the student's own work and never produce assessed work
  • IB Gram holds no regulator approval, accreditation or UAE premises

Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, with annual inspections published on a six-band scale. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah has SPEA; Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge; and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Individual tutors need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time via its app, website or e-services system. u.ae states that tutoring without the permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

On academic honesty, the boundary applies to any school-set investigation or coursework. A tutor teaches the skills, explains what the criteria reward, questions the approach, and gives feedback on drafts the student wrote. A tutor never writes, rewrites or completes assessed work or generates data. The consequence of crossing that line falls on the student.

IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved, Cambridge accredited or Pearson approved, holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a specific licence issued to training institutes with physical premises, and has no UAE office. Ask any provider describing itself as approved which permit it means.

Starting with the code and the practical route in hand

  • Send the board, the syllabus code per science, the tier and the practical route
  • Component marks across all three sciences set the priority order
  • Free trial lesson on the current sticking point, with a written note afterwards
  • One free rematch if the first tutor is not the right fit
  • No UAE home visits; home tutoring is an India-only service for us

Send four things and the match becomes exact: the board, the syllabus code per science, the tier where one applies, and which practical route the school entered the student for. All four come from the exams officer in one email, and they change what a tutor should be doing in the first session rather than the fifth.

Add component marks and a recent marked script if you have them. For a separate-sciences candidate, component marks across all three subjects are what set the priority order, and priority order is most of the value in the first plan. For a double-award candidate, the script usually shows which single discipline is dragging every paper.

Then take the free trial lesson, which is a real teaching hour on the current sticking point rather than a consultation, with a short written note afterwards. No card is held, nothing renews, and if the match is wrong we rematch once at no charge. Mainstream science matches usually take two to three days, longer in the four weeks around mocks when early evening slots go first.

Production City sessions usually land at 5:30pm Gulf Standard Time or later on weekdays, with weekend mornings better for graph and practical-paper work. During Ramadan, post-Iftar slots are a normal request and the slot is held. What we will not do, in IMPZ or anywhere in the UAE, is send a tutor to your address; that service runs in India only.

Where we tutor

Which science routes the campuses around Production City use

Six communities around Production City, noted for what their feeder campuses tend to enter candidates for. Confirm with the exams officer rather than relying on any generalisation, including these.

Dubai Production City (IMPZ)

No campus inside the community, so the award route depends entirely on which school the bus serves. Science students here are typically home between four and half past, putting weekday sessions from 5:30pm.

Dubai Investments Park

Greenfield International School on site runs the IB continuum, so students there meet MYP sciences rather than tiered IGCSE science, which is a different assessment system altogether.

Al Furjan

Arbor School inside the community serves a British curriculum cohort. Strong demand for separate sciences support here, often from students aiming at A Level chemistry or biology.

Discovery Gardens

Large and dense, with demand skewed to Coordinated Sciences and Combined Science support, where the priority is securing grades across three disciplines rather than depth in one.

Jebel Ali

The Winchester School Jebel Ali and Delhi Private School Dubai serve this area on long bus routes. Students often arrive home after five, making six o'clock the realistic first weekday slot.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The longest school day in the cluster. Weekend mornings work better here than weekday evenings for practical-paper and graph work, which needs sustained concentration.

Green Community

Low-density enclave inside Dubai Investments Park with the shortest run in the cluster, and the one adjacent community where a weekday session before five is realistic.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Production City

Motor City, Sports City and Dubai Investments Park

The closest campuses to Production City, mostly British curriculum at secondary. Both Cambridge and Pearson appear, and award routes differ between schools, so the syllabus code is the first thing we ask any family from this ring to confirm.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Greenfield International School
  • Renaissance School Dubai
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Victory Heights Primary School

Jebel Ali, Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Large established campuses on long bus routes serving the southern communities. A mix of British and Indian curriculum, so households here sometimes have one child on IGCSE sciences and another on a CBSE science syllabus with a different topic order.

  • The Winchester School Jebel Ali
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • Arbor School
  • The Apple International School
  • Bright Riders School

Schools are named as the educational context families in this area work within. IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find out which science award it is

Combined Science, Coordinated Sciences 0654 and the separate sciences are different awards with different depth, different grade counts and different sixth-form value. One email to the exams officer settles it, and it changes what depth a tutor should teach at from the first session onwards.

  2. 02

    Confirm the practical route

Ask whether the school entered your child for a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, or whether practical skills sit inside the written papers as with Pearson. The answer changes revision priorities substantially, and the alternative-to-practical paper is among the most learnable components in the qualification.

  3. 03

    Set priority from component marks

For three separate sciences, component marks tell you which subject is costing the most and whether the losses are content or command term. Losses that look the same across all three mean one cheap intervention that pays three times, rather than three concurrent weekly arrangements.

  4. 04

    Free trial lesson, then decide

A real teaching hour on this week's sticking point, followed by a short written note on what the tutor found in topic and command-term terms. No card held, nothing renews. If the match is wrong you say so and we rematch once at no charge.

  5. 05

    Stagger the past-paper sequence

Topic questions, then mixed sections, then whole papers, but staggered across the three subjects rather than run in parallel. Run in parallel, a student spends twelve weeks on topic questions and never reaches a timed paper in any subject, which is the most common revision failure at this level.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code and the route

A Coordinated Sciences candidate and a separate Physics 0625 candidate need different depth on the same topic. We ask for the syllabus code and the practical route before matching anybody, because a tutor working at the wrong depth wastes the hour in both directions.

Specialists, not a science generalist

Biology, chemistry and physics have different marking conventions and different traps. Where a student needs one discipline repaired we use a specialist in it, including inside a double award, because every paper in a double award spans all three and the weak strand cannot be avoided.

Practical skills taught as their own subject

Axes labelled with quantity and unit, scales using most of the grid, a best fit line drawn as a line, a gradient named as a quantity, variables controlled with the method stated. These sit between topics and are badly taught almost everywhere, which makes them cheap marks.

Sequential blocks instead of three tutors

Three concurrent weekly arrangements cost roughly three times what sequential blocks set from component marks do, and usually achieve less. We say so, because telling a family to buy less is the fastest way to be believed about everything else on the page.

Every AED band here carries the competitor or rate table it came from and the month it was read. Three of the six main competitor pages in our research publish no price at all and two quote USD, which UAE families do not transact in.

Hours protected, not spent travelling

Online delivery means a late bus from Al Barsha, a closed road or a half-term abroad shifts a session rather than cancelling it. We do not offer UAE home visits, and across a three-subject revision programme that reliability is worth more than physical presence.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Production City: your questions answered

How do I find out if my child is on Combined, Coordinated or separate sciences?+

Email the exams officer and ask for the board, the syllabus code per science, the tier where one applies and the series, in writing. Cambridge Combined Science is a single award at reduced depth, Coordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award at intermediate depth, and Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 are three full awards. They differ in content, in grade count and in what sixth forms will accept for A Level sciences, and nobody volunteers the information unless you ask for it directly.

Does the award route affect A Level science entry in Dubai?+

Often, yes. Many Dubai sixth forms prefer separate sciences for A Level science routes, because the content depth is greatest and because three grades give an admissions tutor more to work with. A Coordinated Sciences candidate can usually progress but should check the specific sixth form's stated requirement, and a Combined Science candidate aiming at A Level chemistry may find they have not covered material the course assumes. Ask the sixth form directly rather than relying on a general impression, and ask before Year 10 choices are final if possible.

Our school entered him for the paper practical option. What changes?+

It assesses practical skills on paper rather than in a laboratory: recognising apparatus from a diagram, identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables, completing a results table, plotting points, drawing a line of best fit, calculating a gradient and evaluating a method. Cambridge offers it as an alternative to a practical test and the school chooses which candidates sit. It is among the most learnable components in the whole qualification because the question types repeat, which makes targeted past-paper work on it unusually good value in the final term.

Why does my son lose marks on physics explain questions?+

Because he is describing the outcome rather than naming the mechanism. A question asking why a lamp dims when another is added awards marks for the change in total resistance, the effect on current, and then the brightness. Writing that current goes elsewhere describes the result and names nothing creditable. The structure that fixes it is mechanical: name the quantity that changes, name the relationship, state the direction, state the effect. Three to five sessions of structure work usually changes it measurably, and it transfers to the other two sciences.

Which chemistry topic should we fix first?+

Moles, almost always. Relative formula mass, moles, concentration and reacting masses underpin stoichiometry, electrolysis calculations and most quantitative questions, so a student who is slow at it loses marks across the whole paper for reasons unrelated to chemical understanding. The most expensive single slip is unit confusion between cubic centimetres and cubic decimetres, a factor of a thousand. Four to six sessions of timed mixed drill usually makes the method automatic, and that work can be supervised competently at the budget rather than specialist band.

Is biology really just memorising a lot of words?+

The content volume is the main difficulty, but the marks are lost on precision rather than volume. Mark schemes are exact about vocabulary, and students also answer a slightly different question from the one asked: told to explain how a structure's features suit its function, they describe the structure. Negative feedback questions need the receptor, coordinator, effector and correction named in order and most students supply two of four. Genetic cross questions require the allele symbols to be defined, which students omit. Each of those is a structural habit rather than more memorising.

Do we need three separate tutors for three sciences?+

Usually not, and the sequential alternative costs roughly a third as much. Ask the school for component marks across all three subjects. If the losses look similar in all three, you have a command-term and graph-skills problem, which is one intervention of four to six hours that pays in three papers. If one subject is clearly worse, buy a six to eight week block with a specialist in that subject, then reassess. Three concurrent weekly arrangements at AED 150-300 an hour each is a large commitment that rarely matches the actual diagnosis.

How do we revise three sciences without the papers colliding?+

Build the schedule against the actual exam timetable rather than a generic plan, and stagger the sequence rather than running it in parallel. Each subject needs topic questions first, then mixed sections under timing, then whole papers. Run all three in parallel and the student spends twelve weeks on topic questions and never reaches a timed paper in anything. Staggering means one subject moves to timed papers while another is still on topic work, which is uncomfortable to plan and much more effective in practice.

What graph mistakes cost the most in science papers?+

Four recur. Axes labelled with a quantity but no unit, or with neither. Scales chosen so the plotted points occupy a quarter of the grid, which loses accuracy marks on reading values off. A line of best fit drawn by joining the points dot to dot, which is a different claim about the data. And a gradient calculated correctly and then never named as a physical quantity, so the examiner cannot award the interpretation mark. All four are mechanical, all four are drilled out in a handful of sessions, and all four appear on every route.

Are Cambridge and Pearson sciences interchangeable for revision?+

No. Cambridge separate sciences are tiered Core and Extended, with Core capped at grade C, and offer a practical test or alternative-to-practical route. Pearson's International GCSE sciences are untiered on a 9-1 scale and assess practical skills inside the written papers. Question phrasing, mark allocation patterns and topic balance all differ, so revising from the wrong board's past papers is practice for an exam your child is not sitting. A student moving between a Cambridge school and a Pearson school mid-course should expect genuine content gaps in both directions.

Can online lessons cover practical science work?+

For the assessed skills, yes, and often better than in-person because graph construction and table completion happen on a shared whiteboard that saves every step. Experimental design, variable control, apparatus recognition from diagrams, tabulation, plotting, gradient work and evaluation are all paper skills. What online tutoring cannot replace is the hours a student spends handling apparatus, which is the school's responsibility. If the school entered your child for a practical test rather than the paper alternative, the lab rehearsal has to come from the school.

Which exam sittings are available to a Dubai science candidate?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, and the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, warning it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise. Ask your exams officer which zone applies.

What time can science sessions start for a Production City student?+

Realistically from 5:30pm Gulf Standard Time on weekdays. With no secondary campus inside Dubai Production City, students bus to Motor City, Dubai Investments Park, Al Barsha or Jebel Ali and are typically home between four and half past, needing food and a break before anything demanding. Dubai South and Emaar South families often need six o'clock or later. Weekend mornings are better for graph and practical-paper work, which needs sustained concentration that a weekday evening after a long bus day rarely supports.

Does your science tutor come to our home in Dubai Production City?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE lessons as one-to-one live video, and home visiting is a service we run in India only. Across a three-subject revision programme the online format is what keeps the sessions happening when a bus is late or a road is closed, and graph work on a shared whiteboard is saved for later revision. Independent home tutors do work in this area at roughly AED 180-350 an hour on published Dubai market rates, and for a younger child needing physical supervision they can be the better choice.

Are private science tutors in Dubai required to be licensed?+

Yes. A MoHRE private tuition work permit is required, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its app, website or e-services. u.ae states that tutoring without the permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so distrust any amount quoted.

Code, tier, practical route, then priority

Four facts, all available in one email to the exams officer, determine what IGCSE science tutoring should do. Which award: combined, coordinated or separate. Which tier, where tiering applies and where a grade ceiling may already have decided the outcome. Which practical route, because an alternative-to-practical paper is learnable in a way a practical test is not. And which subject is actually costing the most marks, which only component marks can tell you. Get all four, send a recent marked script, and take a free trial lesson before buying anything.
