IGCSE Tutor Cost in the UAE

IGCSE tutor cost in the UAE is not one number. It is the output of a school system with five regulators, a federal tutoring permit that costs the tutor nothing, and a Dubai private sector of 227 schools teaching 17 curricula. This page takes the published AED bands apart and shows who decided each part of them, from the emirate that approves your school's assessment methods to the exam board that closes entries months before the papers. Lessons from IB Gram are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Why a straight answer on price needs the school system behind it

An hour of IGCSE support in the UAE is advertised anywhere between AED 33 and AED 650. Both ends of that range are real and both are legal. Budget online providers publish starting rates from AED 33 to AED 65 an hour; qualified subject tutors working online sit in a published band of roughly AED 150 to AED 300; specialist IGCSE, IB and A Level tutors are quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above; the premium end of the Dubai market reaches AED 650. A visiting in-home hour, where the travel sits inside the fee, is published at AED 180 to AED 500. Those are market figures from provider rate cards and from a 2026 Dubai tutoring cost survey, not IB Gram's price list.

A twenty-fold spread is not a mystery once you see what sits under it. The UAE school system hands different decisions to different bodies, and each decision lands somewhere in the hourly rate. Your emirate's authority licenses the school and, in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, approves its curricula and assessment methods. The federal Ministry of Education sets the subjects every private school must timetable whatever curriculum it is licensed to teach. MoHRE issues the permit that makes paid private tutoring lawful, free of charge, to categories of people as different as a registered schoolteacher and a sixteen-year-old pupil. The exam board fixes the entry deadline, the timetable zone and the results date. None of those bodies sets a tutoring fee. Together they decide who may charge you, for what, and in which weeks the money can still change a grade.

That is the useful way to read a quote. A rate of AED 60 an hour and a rate of AED 400 an hour can both be permitted under the same ministerial resolution, because the permit confirms the right to teach privately and says nothing about subject depth, syllabus knowledge or exam-series experience. Dubai held private school fees flat for 2026-27 under an economic incentives package worth AED 1.5 billion, and no equivalent mechanism holds tutoring rates anywhere in the country. Private tuition is a private contract between a family and a permitted individual or a licensed institute.

So this page does the arithmetic in the order the system imposes it. First the published bands, mapped to the permit categories that can legally occupy each one. Then the four separate bills a UAE IGCSE family receives and who decides each. Then Dubai's own enrolment numbers, which are the demand side of your quote. Then the overheads a licensed tuition centre carries before it teaches anybody, the Abu Dhabi ethics rule that closes the cheapest route on purpose, the three ministry subjects you cannot buy a different version of, and the exam calendar that decides whether an hour bought in March is worth what an hour bought in September was.

One thing is settled before you start comparing. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video. Home visits are part of our service in India and nowhere in the Emirates, so no tutor on the platform travels to a UAE address. That is a cost structure as much as a format: you are paying for a Chemistry 0620 or Computer Science 0478 specialist on Gulf Standard Time rather than for whoever is willing to drive to your community at 5pm on a Tuesday.

An IGCSE quote should name a board, a tier and a series before it names a price, because those three things decide how many hours the course needs and when they are worth buying. These are the routes UAE schools actually enter, with what each does to a tutoring budget.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, Core tier

The Core tier covers the shared content of a Cambridge syllabus and is examined on papers that stop at a capped grade. In Maths 0580 and the sciences a Core entry is sat on different papers from an Extended entry, so Core teaching is not the same lesson delivered more slowly. It is a narrower specification with its own past-paper set and its own mark allocations.

UAE schools use Core entries where a pupil's Year 9 evidence does not support Extended, and the decision is made inside the school, not by the board or the emirate authority. For a family this is the single largest cost variable in the whole plan: hours spent chasing Extended content for a Core candidate buy nothing, and hours spent securing the top of the Core range are usually the cheaper route to a usable grade.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, Extended tier

The Extended tier carries the supplementary content and the papers that reach the full grade range, which is what a sixth form asking for a grade 7 in Maths or Physics is looking for. Extended papers reward multi-step problems and extended written reasoning rather than recall, which is why they absorb more teaching time per topic than the Core versions of the same subject.

Across Dubai, where UK-curriculum pupils are 37 per cent of the private sector, Extended is the default entry in the academic schools and the pressure point is the gap between a grade 6 and a grade 7. Published market rates for Extended-tier subject specialists sit in the AED 200-450 band. The decision to pay those rates is best made in Year 10, when there are still terms rather than weeks to use.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's International GCSE suite runs to its own syllabus codes, such as 4MA1 for Mathematics A, and is examined in May/June and in November each year. Some subjects allow a modular pattern, so a candidate can bank units rather than sit everything at the end. The specifications differ enough from Cambridge that past-paper practice is not interchangeable.

A UAE family often discovers the board only when the entry confirmation arrives. It matters for money: a November series exists in the Pearson calendar, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with the previous November's results reaching students on 22 January 2026. A modular route spreads tutoring across more months and more sittings than a single terminal series does.

AFTERAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Post-IGCSE routes: A Level and IB Diploma

IGCSE grades are the entry currency for the sixth form, and a school's own offer for A Level Physics or Higher Level Chemistry is normally expressed in IGCSE grades. The federal equivalency route for the British track also expects accredited subjects at A or AS Level on top of the IGCSE count, which is why the Year 11 result has consequences well past Year 11.

The practical effect in the UAE is that Year 11 money is buying two things at once: a certificate and a sixth-form place. Dubai adds seven private schools for 2026-27, four of them UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, which creates places but does not lower published grade requirements. Families planning an IB Diploma after IGCSE should treat Maths tier as the decision with the longest shadow.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Price follows scarcity at subject level more than at tier level. These are the IGCSE subjects UAE families ask for most often, with what the teaching actually involves and where the market pool is thin enough to move a rate.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The deepest tutor pool in the country and therefore the most competitive rate. Extended work turns on algebraic fluency, transformations and the longer multi-step questions near the back of the paper. Marks are lost in method lines that are never written down, which is a habit that takes weeks rather than hours to change.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Numerate and unit-heavy, with a practical component examined either as a laboratory paper or as a written alternative. Most UAE candidates sit the written alternative, which rewards being able to describe a method, identify a control variable and read a results table rather than being handy with apparatus.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and organic chemistry account for a large share of lost marks at Extended level. Specialists in this subject are scarcer in the UAE market than Maths specialists, which is visible in quoted rates for exam-term hours in the AED 250-400 range.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Looks approachable and is marked strictly. Extended answers need precise terminology and command-term discipline: describe, explain and suggest are scored differently, and a correct idea in the wrong register scores nothing. Genetics and transport in plants are the usual repair jobs.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510, 0511)

Core and Extended

A large entry across UAE schools and often the subject that decides whether an equivalency file has five usable grades. Reading comprehension and the summary task are trainable within a term; the speaking component is handled by the school and needs rehearsal rather than content.

English Language and Literature (Cambridge 0500, 0475)

First language

Directed writing and the comparative question reward structure above vocabulary. Tutoring here is mostly timed practice with line-by-line feedback on the student's own writing, which is slower work than content subjects and usually booked as a longer weekly block.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Pseudocode, trace tables and the theory paper on data representation and networks. One of the thinnest tutor pools in the Emirates: schools teach it, specialist private tutors for it are harder to find, and quoted rates sit at the upper end of the market band as a result.

Business Studies and Economics (Cambridge 0450, 0455)

Single tier

Marks live in application and evaluation, not definitions. A candidate who can define elasticity but cannot apply it to a named case study loses the top band on every long question. Short, frequent essay-plan sessions beat long content lectures in both subjects.

Additional and Further Mathematics (Cambridge 0606, 0607)

Extended only

Taken by the strongest sets as a bridge to A Level or Higher Level Maths, including calculus and trigonometric identities that sit outside the standard syllabus. Very few private tutors in the UAE market offer it, and availability rather than price is usually the binding constraint.

Arabic as a first and additional language

School-dependent

Timetabled in every UAE private school under federal rules, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab pupils. Outside support has to work to the school's own programme, because different or additional content needs prior ministry permission, so a tutor's job here is practice and feedback rather than a parallel syllabus.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways UAE families buy IGCSE hours, each with a different cost profile. The right one depends on how far away the series is and whether the problem is content, technique or confidence under timed conditions.

A weekly one-to-one hour across Years 10 and 11

The cheapest route per grade moved, because it spreads the work across terms rather than weeks and uses the school's own sequence. A weekly hour in one subject from early Year 10 gives a tutor room to fix method habits, which is the slow work that cannot be compressed into an exam-term block.

  • Taught over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the school run
  • Pointed at one named syllabus code and one series from the first lesson
  • Monthly written note on what moved and what has not

A paid block before a series

Eight to twelve concentrated hours aimed at a specific paper, usually booked after mock results. This is the format most families buy and the most expensive per hour of change, because technique under timed conditions is all that can realistically shift in the final weeks. It works best when the diagnosis is already clear.

  • Built from the student's own mock script, not from a generic revision plan
  • Timed questions marked against the published command terms
  • Scheduled around Ramadan and Eid so paid weeks are teaching weeks

A single diagnostic hour

One paid hour that answers whether paid hours are the right purchase at all. A specialist reads the mock script, names what is actually holding the grade, and says plainly if the fix is school-side, revision-habit-side or genuinely a teaching gap. Families with nine subjects and one budget start here more often than they expect.

  • Ends with a written diagnosis you keep whether or not you book more
  • Covers tier and board fit as well as content gaps
  • Free trial lesson available first, with no card details taken

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What an IGCSE hour costs in the UAE, and which authority has any say over it

An IGCSE tutor cost in the UAE lands between AED 33 and AED 650 an hour as published in 2026, and no UAE authority sets, caps or approves any figure in that range. Emirate regulators approve school tuition fees. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah they also approve curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Private tuition between a family and a permitted tutor sits outside all of that.

What the regulators do decide is who is allowed to charge you. Paid private tutoring in the UAE runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through MoHRE, and the eligible categories stretch from a teacher registered at a government or private school to an unemployed resident, a university student and a pupil aged fifteen to eighteen. One permit, one legal status, five very different kinds of teaching, and they do not cost the same.

That is why the band table below is organised by who occupies each price point rather than by adjectives like premium or affordable. A quote of AED 60 an hour is usually a permitted student or recent graduate working from the textbook. A quote of AED 300 is usually a subject teacher with a syllabus code in their head and a drawer of past papers they know by paper number. Both are lawful; only one of them can tell you why your daughter lost four marks on an electrolysis question.

Treat every figure on this page as market information with a date attached. The bands come from provider rate cards published in 2026 and from a 2026 Dubai tutoring cost survey. They are not IB Gram prices, and any provider quoting you a number should be willing to say what it includes, what it excludes and when it was last reviewed.

Four bills, four different people deciding: how money reaches a UAE IGCSE family

Parents talk about the cost of IGCSEs as one figure. It is four, and only one of them is a tutoring fee. Confusing them is how families end up paying twice for something already inside the school fee, or discovering an entry cost in the same month they committed a revision budget.

The school fee is approved by the emirate authority. In Dubai, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second package of economic incentives valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, fee approval sits with the emirate authority alongside approval of curricula and assessment methods. Inside that fee sit the mandatory ministry subjects and, in most schools, the exam entries.

The exam entry is a separate transaction between the school as a centre and the board. Cambridge and Pearson publish deadlines rather than parent-facing prices: a centre sets what it recharges, and a private candidate pays whatever the centre they register with charges. No board publishes an AED figure, so any provider quoting you one should name the centre it came from.

The tutoring fee is the only line in the four that is genuinely yours to negotiate, and the only one with no approving authority above it. The fourth line is the one nobody budgets: the cost of fixing something late, which is almost always more expensive than the same work done in Year 10, and occasionally not purchasable at all once an entry deadline has closed.

03

Dubai's enrolment numbers are the demand side of your quote

Tutoring rates in this country are not set by tutors. They are set by how many families want the same hour. Dubai publishes enough data through its regulator to work out why the mid-band has stayed competitive while exam-term hours have not.

In 2024-25 the Dubai private sector taught 387,441 pupils across 227 schools offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest share at 37 per cent, Indian at 26 per cent, American at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. More than a third of a very large sector sitting UK-curriculum examinations is why Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE tutors are the most plentiful category in the market, and why Maths 0580 is the cheapest specialist hour you will price all year.

The supply side keeps moving. Six new private schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent; for 2026-27 Dubai adds seven more, four of them UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. New UK-curriculum places mean a larger IGCSE cohort next year, which pushes demand for the same April and May evening slots rather than spreading it.

The practical reading for a parent is seasonal, not annual. The pool of permitted IGCSE tutors in the Emirates is at its deepest in September and its thinnest in the eight weeks before a series, and that is when the 500-650 band fills. Nothing about the published school-fee freeze changes that, because the scarcity being priced is a Tuesday at 5pm in April, not a place in a school.

The permit that lets someone charge you is free, and open to a school pupil

This is the fact that explains the bottom half of the price range, and almost nobody writing about tutoring costs in the UAE mentions it. The private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Because it costs nothing, a permit is not a quality signal and a permitted tutor is not automatically an experienced one. The eligible categories include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school pupils aged fifteen to eighteen. A sixteen-year-old with a permit and an A* in Maths can lawfully charge your Year 10 for help, and some of the AED 33-65 band is exactly that.

What the permit does tell you is that the person charging you is operating inside the law. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. The ministry has not published a fine schedule, so no figure should be quoted at you, and a provider who cannot say which permit route its tutors use is telling you something.

Ask for the permit position, then ask the separate question that actually sets the price: which syllabus code, which tier, which series, and which papers have you taught through to results. The permit confirms the right to teach privately. It says nothing about whether the hour is worth AED 60 or AED 400.

What a licensed tuition centre pays for before it teaches anybody

A group class at a Dubai centre and a freelance hour at your kitchen table are priced by different arithmetic, and the difference is regulatory as much as commercial. An individual needs one free permit. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from the regulator.

That process has shape and cost. Initial approval comes first, there is a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal has to be requested at least thirty days before expiry. On top of the permit sit rent on a teaching space, trade licence fees, staff visas, and the obligation to keep the whole file current every year. None of that teaching happens before any of it is paid.

So a centre's group rate of AED 100-150 per pupil per hour is not simply an undercut of a one-to-one rate. It is premises and compliance divided by the number of children in the room. That can be real value for a Maths revision class where twelve pupils are making the same mistake, and poor value where one child needs their own electrolysis question unpicked.

A platform that teaches one-to-one over live video carries neither the premises nor the institute permit, and the honest version of that is not that it is cheaper by nature. It is that the overhead sits in matching, scheduling and quality checks rather than in rent, and that the tutor pool is the whole roster rather than whoever the centre has hired for that branch. Never accept the shorthand that a licence to run premises is an endorsement of teaching quality; it is a permit to operate a place.

Abu Dhabi closed the cheapest route on purpose

The first thing many UAE families try is not the market at all. It is the teacher who already teaches their child, asked quietly about evenings. In Abu Dhabi that route is closed by design, and understanding why saves an awkward conversation and a risky arrangement.

ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff, as reported in the Gulf press, prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to pupils enrolled at their own school. A teacher tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and that permit's code of conduct also bars serving pupils affiliated with their own school. Treat this as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document before relying on the exact wording, but the direction is unambiguous.

The reasoning is a conflict of interest a parent should want removed. A teacher who sets the internal assessment, writes the forecast grade and marks the mock should not also be paid privately by the family of a candidate in that class. Removing that option is what protects the integrity of the grade you are eventually relying on.

What it leaves is a ladder of support worth climbing in order, because the first two rungs are free. Subject clinics and intervention sessions the school already runs cost nothing and are run by the person who knows the entry. A different teacher within the same school may be permitted, subject to the school's own policy. Only after that does a paid external tutor make sense, and at that point the job is to buy a specialist in the right board, tier and code rather than proximity.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies: hours you cannot buy a different version of

Three subjects on your child's timetable are not IGCSE options and are not negotiable. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in UAE private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, and the federal baseline is explicit that private schools are free on curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies while adhering to the ministry's general regulations. In Dubai, KHDA's requirements had to be in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The rules are specific enough to change what outside support can legitimately sell. Schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab pupils and for Arabic as a first language. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must have appropriate approval from the regulator to teach those subjects.

Then the line that matters most for a tutoring budget: for these mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. You cannot buy a better Arabic syllabus. Anyone offering a parallel programme for these subjects is either describing school homework support in grander words or proposing something the rules do not allow.

Instructional time is counted in forty-minute lesson units, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and the guidance advises that no mandatory-subject lesson should run under twenty-five minutes. Useful arithmetic when a provider quotes a session: a school period is not an hour, and a quote per period against a rate per hour is a twenty-five to thirty-three per cent difference in what you are actually buying.

The money is committed months before the papers are sat

Exam boards do not publish prices for parents, but they publish the deadlines that decide whether your money can still change anything. The pattern is consistent and counter-intuitive: the decisions with the largest financial consequence happen long before the exam season a family is saving for.

Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Its published key dates for the February-March 2027 series show the shape clearly: final entries due 27 November 2026, the exam period 3 February to 4 March 2027, forecast grades due 27 February 2027, results released on Cambridge International Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. The entry closed more than two months before the first paper.

Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone; Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs run in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so confirm dates on the board's own page before committing money to a plan.

Read against those dates, the value of an hour changes through the year. Tier decisions and board confirmation are worth money in Year 10 and worth nothing after an entry closes. A visible mark gap found in a January mock can still be worked on for a June series. An eight-week block bought in April is buying technique, not content, and should be priced and judged as such.

Why a Computer Science 0478 hour costs more here than a Maths 0580 hour

Subject is a bigger price variable than tier, board or emirate, and the reason is supply. With 37 per cent of Dubai's private pupils on a UK curriculum, the schools that teach IGCSE are concentrated in a handful of subjects, and so are the teachers who could tutor them.

Maths, the three separate sciences and English have the deepest pools in the country. There are more teachers of them, more recent graduates who sat them, and more published rate cards that compete on them. That competition is what keeps the mid-band around AED 150-300 for a qualified online tutor of those subjects.

The thin end is narrow and rarely discussed. Computer Science 0478, Additional Mathematics 0606, Further Pure Mathematics, Design and Technology, and first-language Arabic have small cohorts and few specialist private tutors anywhere in the Emirates. When a subject pool is thin, the constraint that bites first is not price; it is whether anybody is free at all in the eight weeks before a series. The premium that appears in those weeks is scarcity, not quality.

The honest position is to say so, and to say what happens when the answer is nobody. If no UAE-based specialist covers a syllabus code at the hour a family needs, we say so rather than substituting a generalist and calling it a match. Where a specialist outside the UAE teaches the same specification, the lesson is still one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the rate is quoted before anything is booked.

What no amount of money may buy

  • What a tutor may do: teach the specification, model methods, question an argument, mark the student's own work
  • What no fee may buy: a written IA, coursework, a portfolio piece or any assessed component
  • What is not ours to sell: board syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables
  • What we will not assert: regulator approval, board partnership, a UAE office, or an unevidenced examiner status

Some things in this market are for sale and should not be. Pages ranking for IGCSE and IB searches in the Emirates openly sell finished assessed work for four-figure sums. Buying it is the most expensive decision available to a family on this page, because the price is not the fee; it is the candidate's qualification.

The line is simple to state. A tutor may teach the specification, model a method, discuss a plan, ask hard questions about an argument, and give written feedback on work the student wrote. A tutor may not write, redraft to completion or supply coursework, a portfolio piece or any assessed component. Where coursework is part of an IGCSE, the school's own internal deadlines and declarations apply, and a tutor who offers to work around them is proposing malpractice rather than tuition.

Published material has a boundary too. Syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the boards. We reference them, name them by code and point at the official pages; we do not reproduce them or supply them as downloads, and a fee charged for board material a school can obtain through its own centre access is a fee worth refusing.

The same discipline applies to claims. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and says so. No tutor here is described as a current examiner unless that status can be evidenced, and examiner experience is never offered as access to marking, boundaries or paper content. A provider willing to blur any of those lines for a sale will blur others later.

A visiting tutor and a live video hour are two different purchases

Families comparing quotes usually assume they are comparing the same product at different prices. They are not. The published in-home band of AED 180-500 an hour and the qualified online band of AED 150-300 buy different things, and the difference is bigger than the money.

IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video. Home visits are part of what we do in India and not in the Emirates, so no tutor on the platform travels to a UAE address. We would rather state that at the top of a page about cost than let a parent discover it after a deposit. The case for the format stands on its own terms: a family in Khalifa City or Fujairah gets a Chemistry 0620 Extended specialist on Gulf Standard Time, rather than the best available teacher within a twenty-five minute drive.

The practical differences show up in the parts of tutoring that are not the hour itself. A visiting arrangement prices travel into the fee, loses sessions to traffic and school-run timing, and limits the pool to one emirate's commuting radius. A video lesson starts at 7pm after prep without anyone driving, shares a screen onto the student's own marked script, and records nothing unless a family asks for it.

There are honest trade-offs. A child who needs a supervised room to focus is better served by a parent in the next room than by any format change. A connection problem costs a lesson. The written alternative to practical is the examined route for most UAE candidates anyway, so the laboratory objection matters less than it sounds. Price both options on the same table, as below, and the comparison answers itself for most families.

What changes about the cost in each emirate

The published rate bands are national and the rules around them are not. Who licenses your school, who approves its assessment methods and whether a visiting tutor can realistically reach you all vary by emirate, which is why the same subject feels differently priced in Dubai and in Fujairah.

Dubai

KHDA licenses 227 private schools teaching 17 curricula to 387,441 pupils, with UK curriculum the largest share at 37 per cent. The deepest tutor pool and the most published rate cards in the country, which keeps the mid-band competitive, and the highest premium rates too.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and sets professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff. Those rules, as reported in the press, bar a teacher from paid tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school, which removes the cheapest informal route many families try first.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Assessment approval sitting with the emirate is a reason to confirm what your school is actually entering before paying for paper practice.

Ajman

Private schools here answer to the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority, so the questions a parent asks about curriculum and assessment go to the school and the ministry. Local specialist supply in less common IGCSE subjects is thin, and live video removes that limit.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah, approves fees, curricula, programmes, activities and assessment methods. Published in-home rates carry travel that a northern-emirates address makes expensive, which is the main reason families here compare formats rather than tutors.

Fujairah

Also under federal Ministry of Education supervision. A visiting specialist for Computer Science 0478 or Additional Mathematics 0606 is close to unobtainable at any price on the east coast, so the realistic comparison is between a generalist nearby and a subject specialist over video.

Umm Al Quwain

Ministry of Education supervision again, and the smallest private sector of the seven. The market-rate tables published for Dubai are the only public reference point most families have here, which makes it worth knowing that those figures are Dubai figures with Dubai travel inside them.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai: the UK-curriculum core

The largest IGCSE entry in the country sits in these schools and their feeders, which is why specialist Maths and science tutors are easiest to find on a Dubai timetable and hardest to find at 4pm. Inspection reports for each school are published by the regulator and are worth reading before any hours are booked.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai British School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

A smaller IGCSE cohort than Dubai and a tighter local tutoring market, with ADEK's staff ethics rules shaping what support a school can offer informally. Families here routinely compare a visiting generalist against a subject specialist taught over video, and the subject specialist usually wins on syllabus fit.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah schools work under SPEA, while Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah schools work under the federal Ministry of Education. Published in-home market rates of AED 180-500 an hour assume short travel; across these emirates the travel assumption breaks, and the format comparison matters more than the brand of provider.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, the tier and the series

Before any figure is discussed we ask for the syllabus code on the entry confirmation, the tier, the series your child is entered for and the emirate the school sits in. Those four facts decide which specialists can help and what the realistic hours look like. A quote given without them is a guess.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

The trial is with the specialist who would teach the course, not a sales call, and no card details are taken to book it. The tutor reads a recent mock or piece of marked work beforehand and uses the lesson to test whether the diagnosis holds. If the fit is wrong, say so and we match again.

  3. 03

A written plan with the hours priced

You receive the proposed number of hours, what each block is for, the rate per session and the dates, in writing, before anything is paid. If the plan depends on an entry deadline or a results date, those appear in it with the board's own page named so you can check them yourself.

  4. 04

A monthly note, and the option to change

Each month brings a short written account of what moved, what has not and what the next block should target. Tutors can be changed without penalty, and we will say when more hours are unlikely to help as readily as when they are. Paid weeks are scheduled around Ramadan, Eid and school breaks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every AED figure here has a source and a date

The bands on this page come from provider rate cards published in 2026 and a 2026 Dubai tutoring cost survey, and they are labelled as market information rather than our price list. Three of the six pages currently ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote a currency UAE families do not transact in.

The regulatory position stated, not implied

We name KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the RAK Department of Knowledge and the federal Ministry of Education for what each one actually does, and we claim approval from none of them. The MoHRE private tuition work permit and Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 are named so a parent can check a tutor's position for themselves.

A specialist, not a postcode

Matching by syllabus code rather than by commuting distance is what makes Computer Science 0478 or Additional Mathematics 0606 available to a family in Fujairah on the same terms as a family in Jumeirah. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the school day.

Honesty boundaries written down

A tutor here teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. No fee buys a written coursework piece, a portfolio or any assessed component, and we do not reproduce board syllabuses, past papers or mark schemes. That boundary protects the qualification you are paying to improve.

We say when nobody is available

If no UAE-based specialist covers a code and a tier at the hour you need, we say so instead of substituting a generalist. Where a specialist elsewhere teaches the same specification, the delivery, the timing and the rate are all stated before you book.

No UAE office, no inflated claims

IB Gram runs no centre or branch in the Emirates and does not pretend otherwise, holds no regulator accreditation, and publishes no rating or success figure it cannot evidence with a number, a date and a method. What is on this page is checkable.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Does any UAE authority set or cap what an IGCSE tutor may charge?+

No. Emirate authorities approve private school tuition fees, and in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah they also approve curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. None of them approves, caps or publishes a rate for private tutoring. What the federal system regulates is who may charge you: paid private tutoring runs on the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. So the published spread of roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour is a market outcome, not a regulated scale, and every figure you are quoted is a private contract term you can question.

Dubai approved no private school fee rise for 2026-27. Does anything hold tuition rates down too?+

Nothing does. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. That decision governs fees the school charges, which an authority approves. Private tutoring has no approving authority above it, so rates move with demand. The practical consequence is seasonal: the pool of permitted IGCSE tutors is deepest in September and thinnest in the eight weeks before a series, which is when premium bands of AED 500 to AED 650 an hour fill up.

The private tuition work permit is issued free of charge. Why does a permitted tutor still quote more?+

Because the permit and the teaching are separate things. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. It confirms a legal right to teach privately and says nothing about subject depth. What you pay for above the floor of the market is specification knowledge, exam-series experience and the ability to diagnose why a mark was lost rather than show a correct answer. Ask which board, which tier, which syllabus code and which series the tutor has taken through to results. That answer, not the permit, explains a rate.

A university student offered IGCSE Maths at AED 60 an hour. Is that permitted, and what is missing at that price?+

It is permitted. University students are an eligible category for the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is why the AED 33 to AED 65 band exists legally in this market. What is usually missing is specification-level knowledge. A recent candidate remembers their own papers accurately and can explain a method clearly, which genuinely helps a Year 10 who is behind on content. They rarely know where Extended-tier marks are allocated, how the command terms are scored, or what a particular paper does with multi-step questions. For a tier decision or a technique rebuild before a series, that gap matters.

Can a sixteen-year-old legally be paid to tutor my child here?+

Yes. The eligible categories for the private tuition work permit include school pupils aged fifteen to eighteen, alongside registered schoolteachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents and university students. One permit covers all of them, which is the clearest evidence that a permit is a legality check rather than a quality signal. Peer tutoring at the bottom of the published range can work for confidence and for keeping up with homework. It is not a route to moving a grade 6 to a grade 7, changing tier, or rebuilding exam technique, and nobody should price it as though it were.

What does a licensed Dubai tuition centre carry that a freelance tutor does not?+

An operation with premises and staff needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from the regulator: initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. On top of that sit rent, trade licence costs, staff visas and administration. A freelance tutor needs one free permit. That overhead is why a centre's one-to-one rate sits above a freelancer's, and why its group classes are priced per pupil. A licence to operate premises is not a statement about teaching quality, and should not be sold as one.

Our school is in Sharjah, where the authority approves assessment methods. What should we pay for there?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, and the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge works the same way. For a family that means the school's assessment pattern is settled above the school, so paying for paper practice against the wrong pattern is wasted money. Get the board, the syllabus code and the tier in writing from the school first. Then buy hours against that specification. The emirate authority is the reason to confirm rather than assume; the board is what the hours should target.

Is there cheaper support inside the school itself before we pay anyone privately?+

Usually, and it is worth exhausting first. Subject clinics, intervention groups and departmental revision sessions are inside the fee you already pay and are run by staff who know exactly which papers your child is entered for. Ask the head of department what is available and who attends. One caution: in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar teachers from paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving pupils affiliated with the teacher's school. Free school support is encouraged. A private arrangement with your child's own teacher is not.

Why will a provider not include Cambridge past papers and mark schemes in a paid package?+

Because they are not the provider's to sell. Syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are published by Cambridge and Pearson and belong to them. A reputable tutor references them, names them by code and points to the official pages, which schools and registered centres can access directly. Reproducing them as downloads is copyright infringement, and for unreleased material it is an exam-security problem as well. If a quote has a line item for board material, ask which centre supplied it. In most cases your school can obtain the same material at no charge.

Dubai is adding seven schools and 16,846 places. Does extra supply make tutoring cheaper?+

Not in the way families hope. Dubai adds seven private schools for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 places, after six opened in 2025-26 with enrolment up 6 per cent. More UK-curriculum places means a larger IGCSE cohort, which increases demand for the same after-school hours rather than reducing it. Extra places do lower the chance of being unable to find a school, and they slowly deepen the teaching pool in the emirate. Neither effect reaches the 5pm slot in April, which is where UAE tutoring prices are actually made.

Can we pay for a stronger Arabic syllabus than the one our school is licensed to teach?+

No, and that is a rule rather than a preference. For the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are timetabled in UAE private schools whatever international curriculum the school teaches, and schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils, with language-of-instruction rules for each. Outside support for these subjects is practice and feedback on the school's own programme. Anyone selling a parallel Arabic curriculum is either renaming homework help or proposing something the rules do not allow.

Why does an hour of IGCSE Computer Science 0478 cost more here than an hour of Maths 0580?+

Supply. Maths has the deepest tutor pool in the country, with more teachers, more recent candidates and more competing rate cards, which holds the qualified online band near AED 150 to AED 300. Computer Science 0478 has a small cohort and few specialist private tutors anywhere in the Emirates, so quoted rates sit at AED 250 to AED 450 and the real constraint before a series is whether anyone is free at all. The same applies to Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure Mathematics. Where scarcity is doing the pricing, book early rather than paying more later.

If our daughter sits IGCSE papers as a private candidate, which costs fall to us?+

The entry itself has to go through a centre, and the centre sets what it charges a private candidate. Neither Cambridge nor Pearson publishes a parent-facing AED figure, so ask the centre directly and in writing. Deadlines are the harder cost: Cambridge's final entries for the February to March 2027 series were due on 27 November 2026, months before the papers. Teaching, materials and any practical arrangements are also yours rather than a school's. Budget for entry, teaching and the administrative time, and treat the entry deadline as the point after which money can no longer change the subject list.

A provider quotes AED 650 an hour for an examiner. What should we ask before paying it?+

Three questions. First, what evidence of current examiner status exists, because the status is asserted far more often than it is held, and nobody should describe a tutor as an examiner without being able to show it. Second, what the hour actually delivers that a strong subject teacher's hour does not; examiner experience is not access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, and should never be sold as if it were. Third, whether the premium reflects scarcity in the subject or only in the diary. The top of the published Dubai market reaches AED 650, and sometimes that is simply a full calendar in April.

Cambridge entries close months before the papers. When should the money actually be spent?+

Earlier than most families spend it. Cambridge's published key dates for the February to March 2027 series show final entries due 27 November 2026, exams from 3 February to 4 March 2027, forecast grades due 27 February and results on 13 May. Before the entry closes, money can still change the board decision, the tier and the subject list, which are the highest-value decisions in the whole plan. After it closes, hours buy content and technique only. An hour bought in Year 10 is working on habits; an hour bought eight weeks out is working on timing and precision, and should be judged on that.

We are in Fujairah. Does distance from Dubai change what we are charged?+

It changes in-home rates and not online ones. Published UAE in-home rates of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour have travel inside them, and those figures assume short Dubai or Abu Dhabi journeys. From an east-coast address, a visiting specialist in a thin subject is close to unobtainable at any price. Private schools in Fujairah come under the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority, which changes who you ask about curriculum, not what you pay. Teaching over live video is priced identically in Fujairah and in Dubai, because there is no journey in it.

We are comparing a visiting tutor with IB Gram. What are we actually buying?+

Two different products. A visiting arrangement buys a teacher in the room, with travel inside the fee, a pool limited to your commuting radius and sessions that traffic can cost you. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video, matched by syllabus code and tier, on Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are part of our service in India and not in the Emirates, so no tutor here travels to a UAE address. What that buys instead is a Chemistry 0620 Extended or Computer Science 0478 specialist for a family in Khalifa City or Umm Al Quwain on the same terms as a family in Jumeirah.

What does the free trial lesson include, and is anything payable before it?+

Nothing is payable and no card details are taken. The trial is a full lesson with the specialist who would teach the course, not a sales call. We ask for the syllabus code, the tier, the series and a recent piece of marked work or a mock script beforehand, so the hour is spent testing a diagnosis rather than collecting information. You finish with a written view of what is holding the grade and what the hours would target. If the match is wrong, say so and we propose a different tutor at no cost.

Start with the four facts, then look at the number

An IGCSE tutor cost in the UAE only means something once the board, the tier, the syllabus code and the series are on the table, because those four facts decide which specialists exist and which weeks are still useful. Send them to us with the emirate your child's school sits in and we will say what the realistic hours are, where the published market bands sit for that subject, and whether paid hours are the right purchase at all. The trial lesson is with the tutor who would teach the course, nothing is payable to book it, and every lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
