IB and IGCSE tutors for Dubai Production City families

Households searching for IB and IGCSE tutors in Dubai Production City are mostly apartment families in a media and print free zone, often on freelance or small-business permits, with children spread across three or four examination boards. That combination changes what good tutoring looks like: bought in blocks rather than retainers, verified before it starts, and delivered one-to-one over live video.

  • Tutoring bought in defined blocks, with the scope agreed in writing
  • Permit status and subject specialism checkable before you pay
  • Every lesson one-to-one over live video, never a home visit
  • Every AED figure on this page names who published it

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Production City

An apartment community in a free zone, with four curricula in one building

Dubai Production City sits off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road between Motor City and Dubai Studio City, built as a free zone for printing, publishing, packaging and media production and now dominated by mid-rise apartment towers with a mall and a lake at the centre. The residential population is almost entirely apartment-based, which rules out the villa-household assumptions most tutoring pages are written on.

The working profile is distinctive too. A large share of residents are employed by or run businesses inside the free zone, and a meaningful number hold freelance or small-business permits rather than conventional salaried contracts. That matters for tutoring in a practical way nobody writes about: income is lumpy. A household invoicing project by project cannot comfortably commit to an open-ended monthly arrangement, and the standard tutoring model, which is an indefinite weekly retainer, is a poor fit.

The third feature is curriculum spread. There is no school inside the community, so children travel to Motor City, Sports City, Jumeirah Village or Al Barsha South, and the neighbours are not on the same system. One stairwell will hold a child on an Indian board, a child on Cambridge IGCSE, a child on Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and a child in the IB Middle Years Programme, each with different papers, different series and different internal deadlines. Advice passed between families is therefore often confidently wrong.

One more feature of the community shapes the enquiries. A free zone built for printing, publishing and media production attracts people whose own work is project-based and deadline-driven, and who are used to scoping a piece of work before agreeing to it. They ask the questions a producer asks: what exactly am I buying, how long is it, what does it cost in total, and what happens if it does not work. Those are reasonable questions about a tutoring arrangement and almost nothing in this market is set up to answer them, which is why so many households here end up buying nothing at all.

Put those three together and you get the specific requests we see from this community: what does this actually cost in total, can we buy a defined block rather than an open commitment, and how do I know the person on the other end of the call is who they say they are. Those are good questions and most providers answer none of them directly. Three of the six agency pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all.

This page answers them. It covers who lives here and what each household wants, how to buy tutoring in blocks with the scope written down, who is legally permitted to tutor in the UAE and how a parent verifies it, what a quoted rate includes and which extras appear later, when a tuition centre is the better purchase, what a free-zone resident should know before tutoring themselves, and what Dubai's school expansion means for a family choosing now. Lessons are one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not visit homes in the UAE; home visiting is an India-only service.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programme families run across the schools this community uses, and the mix inside one building is the complication. The notes below cover what distinguishes each for a parent trying to compare two children.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two boards with different papers for the same subject. Cambridge uses four-digit codes such as 0580 for Mathematics, with a Core and Extended split that fixes the grade ceiling at entry. Pearson Edexcel uses codes such as 4MA1 and offers modular entry on some subjects. Past papers from the wrong board teach the wrong mark scheme.

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE centres - the February/March series is offered to India only - and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with a separate timetable for each, the entry for a June sitting closing in the spring rather than anywhere near the exam term. Pearson runs May or June and November, with the November 2026 International GCSE timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Two children in this community can therefore sit the same subject in different months.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, totalling thirty-two and converted to a 1 to 7 grade. There is no public examination at most schools, which confuses parents comparing an MYP child with a sibling sitting IGCSE: one has terminal papers and the other has a continuous assessment record.

MYP provision used by this community sits mainly in Al Barsha South and the Jumeirah Village schools. Because the programme is assessed continuously, a dip is visible earlier here than in an IGCSE course, which is an advantage if a parent knows how to read the criteria rather than the grade.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects graded 1 to 7, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an internal assessment weighted by its subject guide, so coursework and papers both matter and neither can rescue the other entirely.

Confirm all IB dates and deadlines with your school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org. This page publishes none, because they could not be verified from the IB directly for this project, and in practice the school's internal deadlines bind a student weeks earlier.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects most often requested from this community, described by where the marks are actually decided rather than by syllabus heading.

Mathematics

IGCSE 0580 and 4MA1

The Core and Extended decision caps the grade before any paper is sat, and it is taken by the school. Within the paper, unshown method and misread question demands account for most recoverable marks, both of which respond to timed practice against a mark scheme.

Physics

IB HL and SL, IGCSE 0625 and 4PH1

Circuit reasoning when conditions change is the IGCSE sticking point. At Diploma level the problem is the move from recall to derivation, along with uncertainty handling in practical work that is examinable and rarely practised deliberately.

Chemistry

IB HL and SL, IGCSE 0620 and 4CH1

Mole calculations presented without units or working lose marks that the chemistry would otherwise have earned. Higher Level depth in energetics and kinetics cannot be absorbed late, and the internal assessment needs a question narrow enough to measure.

Biology

IB HL and SL, IGCSE 0610 and 4BI1

Content volume pushes students into rereading rather than answering. Marks follow command terms precisely, so a description offered where an explanation was demanded scores nothing, and that habit is cheap to correct.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

IB HL and SL

Reasoning marks dominate, so an unjustified correct answer collects a fraction of the available credit. Higher Level adds a long problem-solving paper, and the exploration must contain genuine mathematics rather than an applied formula.

Business Management

IB HL and SL

Marks follow application to the stimulus rather than recall of frameworks. The internal assessment needs an organisation willing to share real figures, which households working inside a free zone are often unusually well placed to arrange.

Economics

IB HL and SL

Diagram precision decides grades, and an unlabelled axis costs marks the written analysis cannot recover. Higher Level adds quantitative questions, and commentaries need published articles chosen to support the required analysis.

English Language

IGCSE 0500 and 0990

Directed writing and comprehension under time pressure. The frequent loss is register rather than language: a strong piece written in the wrong form for the stated audience loses marks before the quality of the English is considered.

Computer Science

IB HL and SL, IGCSE 0478

Pseudocode conventions differ between boards, and a student who learned Python at school can write answers an examiner cannot credit. The IB solution needs a real client and documented success criteria, arranged early in the first Diploma year.

Arabic as an additional language

MoE mandatory stream and IGCSE 0544

Taught in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab pupils. Children who join Dubai schooling later need script and vocabulary work the timetable cannot pace individually.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover what this community buys. All are delivered online one-to-one, and the main difference is how the commitment is structured rather than how the teaching works.

Defined block of sessions

An agreed number of sessions with a stated objective and an end point, rather than an open monthly arrangement. A block typically runs six or eight sessions, finishes with a review against marked school work, and is renewed deliberately or not at all. This suits project-based household income and makes the total cost knowable in advance.

  • Session count, objective and total cost agreed in writing before the first lesson
  • A review against marked work at the end of the block
  • No automatic rollover and no cancellation notice to negotiate
  • Renewal is a decision rather than a default

Weekly teaching against a named syllabus

The conventional arrangement for a student in an examination year who needs sustained work. Same tutor, same slot, following the school's scheme of work, with the syllabus code confirmed in the first session because this community runs several boards at once.

  • Board and code confirmed from the examination entry, not from memory
  • Homework set against the school's next assessment
  • Written note after every session naming what was covered
  • Six-week review on work a teacher marked

Short diagnostic engagement

One or two sessions with no commitment attached, designed to establish whether there is a problem and what kind. For a household deciding whether to spend at all, this is the cheapest useful purchase and sometimes it ends with a recommendation to spend nothing.

  • Marked work reviewed with the student rather than described by the parent
  • A written summary naming content, technique, timing or confidence
  • An honest statement where no paid work is needed
  • No obligation to continue and no pressure to

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Production City

01

Who lives in Dubai Production City, and what each household wants

Four household types produce nearly all the enquiries from this community, and they want visibly different things. The first is a family working inside the free zone on a salaried contract, with school-age children at Motor City or Sports City schools, asking the ordinary question about a slipping grade. These are straightforward and usually resolved with a weekly slot against the right syllabus code.

The second is a freelance or small-business household, where income arrives project by project. They ask about total cost and about commitment length before they ask about subjects, and they are right to. An open-ended monthly retainer is a genuinely poor product for this household, and providers who only sell that are excluding a large part of this community's demand without noticing.

The third is a multi-board household, often with children at two different schools on two different systems, where the parent is trying to compare two reports that are not comparable. The useful first step there is not tutoring at all; it is establishing what each child is actually entered for, which takes one email to each school and resolves half the confusion.

The fourth is an apartment household with a space problem rather than an academic one. Two children, one quiet room, and a lesson that needs a desk and a headset. That is a real constraint and it has practical answers: shorter sessions at staggered times, a headset rather than speakers, and a lesson scheduled when the flat is quietest rather than when a template says it should be.

02

Why a project-income household should buy blocks rather than retainers

The default tutoring product is an indefinite weekly arrangement billed monthly, with a notice period. It exists because it suits providers: revenue is predictable and attrition is slow. For a household whose income arrives in lumps, it is the wrong shape, and the usual outcome is a family that avoids tutoring entirely until a crisis, then buys expensively under deadline pressure.

A block fixes that. Agree a number of sessions, an objective, and a total figure before the first lesson. Six or eight sessions is usually enough to establish whether an arrangement is working and to move something measurable. At the end there is a review against marked school work and a decision: renew, stop, or change something. No notice period, no rollover, no awkward conversation about cancelling.

The discipline this imposes is good for the teaching as well as the budget. An open arrangement has no natural moment to ask whether it is working, which is precisely why so many drift on for months without anyone checking. A block has an end date built in, and the end date forces the question. Providers dislike that for obvious reasons, and it is the main reason to insist on it.

What to get in writing is short: the number of sessions, their length, the objective, the total cost, what happens if a session is missed by either side, and whether anything else is charged. If a provider will not write that down, that is the answer to the question you were asking. We will, and the figure does not change afterwards.

03

Is the person teaching your child legally permitted to do it?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and the position is clearer than most parents assume. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days.

The eligibility list is broad rather than narrow. It includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. That last category surprises parents and is genuinely in the published guidance. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified, and this page does not quote one.

There is a separate and important restriction on school staff. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported and should be verified against the current policy document before anyone relies on it, but the direction is unambiguous: your child's own classroom teacher, privately, is not an arrangement to seek out.

For a free-zone community where a number of residents hold individual permits of their own, there is a final point. A permit authorises an individual to provide private lessons. It does not authorise premises, staff or a centre, and it is not an accreditation from any education regulator. Nobody holding one has been approved by KHDA, and any provider describing themselves that way is making a claim the permit does not support.

How a parent verifies a tutor in five questions

Verification is easier than it sounds and almost nobody does it. The questions below take five minutes and eliminate most of what goes wrong in this market, which is not fraud so much as mismatch: a competent tutor teaching the wrong board, or a generalist taking a Higher Level subject they have never taught.

First, ask which syllabus code and level they have taught, and how recently. The answer should be specific, naming 0580 or 4MA1, Higher or Standard Level, rather than mathematics in general. Second, ask what they would do in the first session. A tutor who says they would read the student's most recent marked script is describing a diagnosis; one who says they would assess the student's level with their own test is often describing a sales process.

Third, ask whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. The permit is free and valid for two years, so there is no good reason not to hold one, and the question itself tells you how seriously the arrangement is being treated. Fourth, ask what they will and will not do with coursework. The right answer includes explicit refusals, and a tutor who is vague here is a risk to your child rather than to you.

Fifth, ask what you will receive after each session and what happens if progress does not come. A written note and a review date against marked school work is the correct answer. No written record and no review point is how arrangements drift for months. None of these five questions requires you to know anything about the subject, which is precisely why they work.

05

What a quoted rate includes, and the extras that appear later

Published rates in this market are both scarce and incomplete. Three of the six agency pages ranking for these searches quote no figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars rather than dirhams. The table below collects Dubai market rates published in October 2026 with the publisher named for each band. These are market figures, not an IB Gram price list, and their value is as a benchmark for a quote you have in hand.

The question that matters more than the headline rate is what sits inside it. Ask whether the figure is per sixty-minute hour or per session, because a ninety-minute lesson quoted at an hourly rate is a different number. Ask whether marked homework, a written session note and messaging between lessons are included. Ask about registration fees, materials charges, minimum session blocks, and what happens financially when a session is cancelled by either side.

Monthly packaging is common and worth reading carefully. Packages seen in this market in October 2026 include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year work. A package is good value when it matches what your child needs and poor value when it bundles sessions you will not use.

One contextual figure. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package worth AED 1.5 billion. For this community that means tutoring is the part of the education budget still in play, which is an argument for spending it in defined, reviewed blocks rather than as an indefinite standing cost.

When a tuition centre is the better purchase

One-to-one tuition is not always the right answer, and a page selling it should say so. A small group class at a tuition centre can be better value where a student needs structured revision coverage of a syllabus rather than diagnosis of a specific weakness, where the subject is examined by predictable paper types, and where the student works better with peers than alone. For a budget-constrained household it also buys more contact hours per dirham.

The limits are equally clear. A group cannot diagnose. If two students in a class of six have different gaps, the teaching addresses neither precisely, and a student who is quietly lost in school will usually be quietly lost in a group as well. Group classes cannot supervise an individual component, because an investigation or an essay is by definition the student's own. And the timetable is the centre's rather than yours, with two car journeys attached.

The comparison below sets out the models honestly rather than against an invented competitor. Each has a job it does well. Where a household's problem is coverage, a centre is often the sensible purchase. Where the problem is a specific recurring error, a missed foundation or an unfinished coursework component, one-to-one is what moves it, and a group is an expensive way of not addressing it.

Two practical cautions about centres. Any tuition operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute rather than an individual tutor permit, so asking about it is reasonable. And a centre advertising itself as approved by an examination board for teaching, as opposed to being an approved examination centre for sitting papers, is making two different claims that are easy to conflate.

If you are thinking of tutoring yourself from a free-zone licence

This community contains a lot of people who teach something, and the question comes up often enough to answer directly on a parent-facing page. An individual providing private lessons needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit described above, which is free and valid for two years. A free-zone trade licence for a media or consultancy activity does not substitute for it, and the two regulate different things.

The line that matters is between an individual and an operation. Once there are premises, employed teachers or a centre offering timetabled classes in Dubai, the relevant instrument is a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. That process begins with an initial approval, allows a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and requires annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. It is a substantial undertaking rather than a formality.

The reason this belongs on a page for parents is the claim it generates. Holding either instrument does not make anyone accredited by the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or the Ministry of Education, and the phrase a parent should be most sceptical about in this market is the claim that a platform's tutors have been approved by KHDA. An individual permit is not an approval of teaching quality, and a training-institute permit is a licence to operate premises rather than an endorsement of a curriculum.

IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, no board accreditation and no UAE premises, and does not present itself as holding any of them. We are an online tutor-matching platform, and the honest description of what we offer is one-to-one teaching over live video by tutors matched on subject and level. Anything beyond that would be a claim we cannot evidence, which is exactly what several pages in this search cluster do.

08

What Dubai's school expansion means for a family choosing now

Supply conditions shape what a family can do, and Dubai's private school market is unusually well documented. In the 2024-25 academic year it held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen different curricula. By enrolment share the UK curriculum accounted for 37 per cent, the Indian curriculum 26 per cent, the US curriculum 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. That last figure explains something families in this community notice: IB places are a smaller share of a very large market, so they cluster in particular districts rather than being available everywhere.

The market is also growing quickly. Six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. For 2026-27 Dubai adds seven new private schools, four following the UK curriculum and three offering the International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. For a parent in an apartment community with no school inside it, that is directly relevant: new capacity in nearby districts changes the commute, and new schools typically open with small upper year groups and thin option blocks.

The fee position matters alongside it. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. A household budgeting for the year can treat school fees as fixed and tutoring as the variable, which is the opposite of the usual assumption.

The practical conclusion for a family choosing a school now is to ask about year-group size rather than about the overall inspection band. A new school with three IB classes in the primary phase and eleven students in Year 12 is a different proposition from an established one, and the difference shows up precisely in the subjects a small option block cannot run. KHDA inspection reports break performance down by phase and subject, which is where that question gets answered.

Getting started from Dubai Production City

Start with the entry details, because this community runs several boards at once and half the confusion resolves there. Send each child's school, the exact syllabus code and tier from the examination entry, the most recent marked work, and the date of the next assessment. If two children are on different systems, say so, because the advice is genuinely different and should not be averaged.

Then buy a diagnostic rather than a plan. One or two sessions, no commitment, spent reading marked work with the student to establish whether the problem is content not known, technique not trained, timing lost under pressure, or confidence gone. You get a written summary naming which. A meaningful number of those summaries conclude that no paid work is needed yet, and we would rather write that than sell a block.

If work is warranted, we will propose a defined block with the session count, objective and total cost written down, ending in a review against marked school work. No rollover, no notice period, no automatic renewal. For a household with project-based income that structure is the difference between tutoring being usable and being avoided until a crisis.

Three limits stated before payment. We make no promises about grades, we place no tutors in UAE homes because every lesson is one-to-one online, and we hold no permit, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson and will not imply one. Where a specialist is scarce, we will tell you how long the match will take before you commit rather than after.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai Production City

The communities around Dubai Production City differ in housing type and in which school cluster they feed, both of which change what a tutoring arrangement has to accommodate.

Dubai Studio City

Immediately adjacent and similar in character: media businesses, apartment towers, no school inside the community. Families in both areas use the same Motor City and Sports City schools and the same bus routes.

Motor City

The nearest school cluster, reachable in under ten minutes outside peak. The internal road loop clears quickly, so children at school here are often home by 16:00, which makes an early slot workable.

Dubai Sports City

Also close, with primary and secondary provision and a high proportion of children in club sport. Training schedules compete with tutoring slots here more than traffic does.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Triangle

North-west across the E311, with substantial British-curriculum capacity. A common destination, and a route that moves well except in the mid-afternoon.

Al Barsha South

Where families go for IB continuum and larger established secondary schools. The longest regular journey from this community, which pushes Diploma students towards later evening slots.

Dubailand and Mudon

South-east along the inland corridor, villa communities with their own primary schools. Families occasionally move between these and Production City, and the change in housing type changes where a child can work undisturbed.

Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

South-west towards the metro and the coast, with a similar apartment profile. Households there face the same constraints: shared space, mixed boards and a preference for defined blocks of tutoring over open commitments.

Send the entry details for each child

School, exact syllabus code and tier from the examination entry, most recent marked work, and the next assessment date. Where two children are on different boards, send both sets, because the past papers, mark schemes and series differ.

  2. 02

Buy a diagnostic, not a plan

One or two sessions with nothing attached, spent reading marked work with the student. The written summary says whether the problem is content, technique, timing or confidence, and sometimes says that no paid work is needed yet.

  3. 03

    Agree a block in writing

Session count, length, objective, total cost, what happens when either side misses a session, and confirmation that nothing else is charged. The figure does not change afterwards, and there is no notice period because there is no rolling commitment.

  4. 04

    Verify before the first lesson

Ask which syllabus code and level the tutor has taught and how recently, whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and what they will refuse to do with coursework. Five minutes of questions removes most of what goes wrong.

  5. 05

Review at the end of the block

Progress measured on work a teacher marked, not on how sessions felt, with three honest options: renew, stop, or change the tutor or diagnosis. A block has an end date built in, which is what forces the question to be asked at all.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Blocks, not open-ended retainers

A defined number of sessions with a written objective, a total cost and a review at the end. For households whose income arrives project by project, that is the difference between tutoring being affordable and being postponed until there is a crisis.

Verification you can do yourself

We publish the five questions to ask any tutor, including ours, and the regulatory position behind them. A parent who can check a syllabus code, a permit and a coursework boundary does not need to take anyone's marketing on trust.

The right board, not the better-known one

In a community running Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, the MYP and Indian boards in one building, matching the tutor to the exact code and series matters more than anywhere. Practising the wrong board's papers is the most common wasted term here.

Honest about when we are the wrong purchase

Where a household needs structured syllabus coverage rather than diagnosis, a small group at a centre may be better value, and this page says so. A provider that never recommends an alternative is not giving advice.

No claims we cannot evidence

No grade promises, no invented statistics, no KHDA or examination-board approval, and no UAE premises. Every rate names its publisher, every regulatory statement names its source, and where something could not be verified the page says so.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Production City: your questions answered

Can we buy a fixed number of sessions instead of a monthly commitment?+

Yes, and for a project-income household it is the better structure. A block of six or eight sessions with a stated objective, a total cost agreed in writing and a review against marked school work at the end gives you a knowable figure and a natural decision point. There is no rollover and no notice period to negotiate. The discipline also helps the teaching, because an open arrangement has no moment at which anyone has to ask whether it is working.

How do I check that a tutor is legally allowed to teach privately here?+

Ask directly whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, there is no good reason for a serious tutor not to hold one, and asking tells you how the arrangement is being treated.

Is it true that a school student can hold a tutoring permit?+

Yes. The published eligibility list for the private tuition work permit includes teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. That last category surprises most parents. It is not a reason to dismiss a young tutor for straightforward homework support, but it is a reason to ask about subject depth before putting a Higher Level Diploma subject in their hands.

Can my child be tutored by their own class teacher?+

It is not an arrangement to seek out. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy document, but the direction is clear. A different teacher who knows the same syllabus is the straightforward alternative.

What does it mean when a provider says its tutors are approved by KHDA?+

In practice, nothing you can rely on. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises and staff, which is a licence to operate rather than an endorsement of teaching quality. An individual tutor holds a MoHRE permit, which is also not an approval of quality and not issued by an education regulator at all. Neither makes anyone accredited by the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or the Ministry of Education. Treat the phrase as a marketing claim and ask what specifically is held.

Two of my children are on different boards. Does advice transfer between them?+

Less than you would hope. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers for the same subject, with different command terms and mark schemes, and their series fall in different months. An MYP child is assessed continuously against four criteria while an IGCSE sibling sits terminal papers. A tutor who suits one is not automatically right for the other, and past papers from the wrong board actively teach the wrong technique. Start by confirming each child's board, code and series in writing with the school.

Where should a child take an online lesson in a two-bedroom apartment?+

Anywhere with a desk, a chair and a headset, which matters more than the room. A headset removes most of the household noise problem in both directions and is the single cheapest improvement available. Where two children need lessons, stagger them rather than running both at once, and prefer shorter sessions, which are easier to fit into a quiet window. We schedule around when the flat is actually quiet rather than around a standard slot.

Is a group class at a centre ever better value than one-to-one?+

Yes, for a specific job. Where a student needs structured coverage of a syllabus and timed practice rather than diagnosis of a particular weakness, a small group buys more contact hours per dirham and the peer setting helps some students work. What a group cannot do is diagnose an individual gap, adapt pace to one child, or supervise an investigation or essay, which is by definition the student's own work. If the problem is a recurring specific error, one-to-one is what moves it.

What should be written down before the first lesson?+

Six things: the number of sessions, their length, the objective, the total cost, what happens financially if a session is missed by either side, and confirmation that nothing else is charged. Ask specifically about registration fees, materials charges and minimum blocks, because those are where a headline rate becomes a different number. A provider unwilling to put that in writing has answered the question you were really asking.

Do tutors come to apartments in Dubai Production City?+

No. Home visits are a service IB Gram operates only in India, and every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video. For an apartment community that is usually the better arrangement: no visitor in a small flat, no travel cost folded into the rate, and a tutor chosen for your child's exact syllabus rather than for living close enough to drive over. Market figures also put in-home rates above online rates at every level, with the difference being travel time.

What do monthly tutoring packages in Dubai actually cost?+

Packages observed in this market in October 2026 include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year work. A package is good value only when the session count matches what your child needs rather than what is convenient to bill.

Are school fees going up this year?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a household budgeting the year, that means fees can be treated as fixed and tutoring is the movable part, which is an argument for buying it in reviewed blocks rather than as an indefinite monthly standing cost.

How many IB schools are there actually in Dubai?+

The International Baccalaureate accounted for 7 per cent of private school enrolment in Dubai in 2024-25, in a market of 387,441 students across 227 schools offering seventeen curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent and the Indian curriculum at 26 per cent. For 2026-27 Dubai adds seven new private schools, three of them offering the IB, creating 16,846 new places in total. The practical consequence is that IB provision clusters in particular districts rather than being available in every neighbourhood.

What should I ask a new school about its sixth form?+

Year-group size and option blocks, not the inspection band. Ask how many students are in the current Year 12, how many option columns the timetable runs, how many students took each Higher Level subject last year, and whether each subject is taught by a specialist. A school opening with strong primary provision and eleven students in Year 12 cannot offer the choice an established one can, and KHDA reports break performance down by phase and subject where the band does not.

What will IB Gram not do or claim?+

We will not promise a grade or publish a success statistic we cannot support with a sample size, date and method. We will not send a tutor to a UAE address, because delivery here is online only. We will not write, rewrite, translate or complete any part of an assessed component. We hold no permit, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we operate no office, centre or branch in the UAE.

Agree the scope before you agree the subject

For a household in this community the useful order is unusual: establish what each child is actually entered for, buy one diagnostic session with nothing attached, then agree a defined block with the session count, objective and total cost written down. That gives you a knowable figure, a real decision point at the end, and a tutor matched to the exact syllabus rather than to the better-known board. Send the entry details and the last marked piece of work and we will tell you what the diagnosis is, what a block would cost, and whether a small group at a centre would serve you better than we would.
