IB Physics Tutor in DAMAC Hills 2

Families who hire an IB physics tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 almost always describe the problem as the content. It usually is not. It is uncertainties, graph linearisation, definitions written loosely, and working that stops before the method marks are earned. IB Gram matches a physics specialist at the right level, teaches one-to-one over live video, and fits the slot around your Dubailand school run.

  • Matched to Physics at the level your child actually sits, HL or SL
  • Diagnostic on real paper questions before any plan is written

Why IB physics goes wrong, and why it is rarely the topic

Ask a Diploma physics student what the problem is and you will usually get a topic name. Electricity. Thermodynamics. Fields. Occasionally quantum. Ask to see a marked paper and the picture changes: the content was broadly understood, and the marks went on uncertainties handled wrongly, a graph that was never linearised, a definition written in approximately the right words, and working that arrived at an answer without showing the step that carried the credit.

That gap between what students name and what papers penalise is the whole reason a physics specialist is a different purchase from a general science tutor. A capable graduate can explain Newton's laws. Explaining why a particular uncertainty propagates as a percentage rather than an absolute, and what that does to the gradient of a best-fit line, is a different competence — and it is examined directly.

Higher Level makes it sharper, because HL candidates sit a third paper that Standard Level does not. That paper tests experimental technique and data analysis as a skill in its own right: reading an instrument to a sensible precision, spotting that a method cannot answer the question it was set, choosing what to plot so that a relationship becomes a straight line, and saying what a result's limitations are. Schools teach it, but they teach it inside a crowded practical timetable, and a student who missed a few weeks of it rarely recovers the technique from a textbook.

Then there is the mathematics underneath. IB physics assumes algebraic fluency, confident rearrangement, logarithms where exponential relationships appear, and comfort with gradients and intercepts. A student taking Applications and Interpretation maths alongside Physics Higher Level is carrying a real load, because the physics course expects manipulation their maths course does not drill. That combination accounts for a noticeable share of the DAMAC Hills 2 enquiries we see.

The practical side of getting help here is the Al Qudra corridor. DAMAC Hills 2 sits well out, and almost every Diploma student in the community is driven to school in Motor City, Dubai Sports City or deeper into Dubai. A half three finish becomes a 4:45pm arrival home in afternoon traffic, and a tutor who still has to drive out turns that into a half six start. IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only — so a session starts when your child is home rather than when the traffic clears.

The pool matters too. The IB is around 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools, spread citywide, and only the final two years sit the Diploma. Physics at Higher Level is a narrow specialism within that, so the chance a qualified HL physics teacher lives near DAMAC Hills 2 with a free weekday evening is low. Online matching makes that irrelevant.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics at each stage of the IB continuum asks for something different, and the useful help changes with it. These are the stages we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 families.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences, the physics strand

MYP Sciences is marked against four criteria on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B asks a student to design an investigation with controlled variables, and criterion C asks them to process data and evaluate the method — which is the direct ancestor of Diploma practical work.

DAMAC Hills 2 parents often read a strong criterion A and a weak criterion C as a general science concern. It is not: it is specifically the experimental strand, and it is the one that predicts how a student will cope with Diploma physics. Working criterion by criterion in Years 9 and 10 is the cheapest possible preparation.

DP SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Standard Level

Two written papers plus the Internal Assessment at 20% of the grade. The content is broad rather than deep, which means the risk is coverage: a topic taught in a hurried week in Year 12 can quietly stay unlearned until a mock exposes it. Definitions and the correct use of units are examined relentlessly throughout.

SL physics is a common choice for DAMAC Hills 2 students heading into economics, business or life sciences, and it is frequently paired with Applications and Interpretation maths. That pairing works, but the physics course still expects rearrangement and graph work that AI does not emphasise, so the maths underneath needs checking early.

DP HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Higher Level

Additional content depth plus a third written paper that tests experimental technique and data analysis directly. The Internal Assessment is still 20%. HL rewards students who can sustain a multi-step argument with units and uncertainties carried correctly through every stage, and penalises those who treat each question as a formula lookup.

This is the level where local specialist supply around DAMAC Hills 2 most often reaches zero. It is also the level that engineering and physical-science degree applications most commonly require, so families frequently need exactly the tutor the neighbourhood cannot provide. Online matching exists for precisely this case.

BridgeAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

IGCSE or MYP to Diploma physics

A real step, and an underestimated one. IGCSE physics rewards recall and single-step calculation; Diploma physics expects derivation, multi-step reasoning and uncertainty treatment. A student with a strong IGCSE grade can be genuinely struggling by November of Year 12, which is the curriculum rather than the student.

The intervention that works is a short block in the summer or early Year 12 on algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, graph interpretation and uncertainty basics. Done then it is inexpensive. Done in February of Year 13 it is a rescue, and the foundations are now carrying two years of content.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the physics topics and components DAMAC Hills 2 students most often need work on, with the specific place marks go in each. Availability varies by level and term and is confirmed at the trial lesson.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Projectiles, momentum, energy and circular motion. Students usually know the equations and lose marks on sign conventions, on resolving forces in an unfamiliar direction, and on choosing an energy argument where a force argument would have been shorter and safer.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

The most commonly named weak topic and often a genuine one. Internal resistance, potential dividers and the behaviour of real components under load. Students can apply Ohm's law and cannot reason about what happens to a circuit when one component changes.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Superposition, standing waves, diffraction and simple harmonic motion. Phase relationships are the recurring difficulty, and diagrams are where credit is won or lost — a correctly labelled wave diagram answers several marks of question on its own.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat and the kinetic model. The marks here sit in precise definition and in whether a student can explain a temperature change at the level of particles rather than restating the formula they used.

Fields: gravitational, electric and magnetic

HL and SL

Field strength versus potential is the distinction students most often blur, and HL questions exploit it directly. Sketching a field pattern correctly and reasoning about work done moving a charge or mass through it is examined repeatedly.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Binding energy, decay, the photoelectric effect and energy levels. The arithmetic with very large and very small numbers in standard form costs students marks independently of whether they understand the physics, which is worth diagnosing separately.

Uncertainties and error propagation

HL and SL

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, how each propagates through addition, multiplication and powers, and what that implies about how many significant figures an answer may claim. Examined across every component and taught in a hurry almost everywhere.

Graph work and linearisation

HL and SL

Choosing what to plot so a relationship becomes a straight line, then reading physics from the gradient and intercept. This is the single highest-return skill in the course and it is a technique rather than a topic, which is why it responds quickly to one-to-one work.

The practical and data-analysis paper

Higher Level

Reading instruments to sensible precision, identifying a flawed method, selecting controlled variables, evaluating whether data supports a conclusion. A different skill from the content papers, met late in most schools, and worth preparing for separately.

The Physics Internal Assessment

HL and SL, 20% of the grade

An individual investigation assessed against published criteria. Most marks are lost before any data exists: a research question with no measurable variable, too few repeats to say anything about reliability, or a range too narrow to show a relationship.

The maths underneath physics

HL and SL

Algebraic rearrangement, indices, logarithms for exponential relationships, trigonometry for resolving vectors, and gradient reasoning. Students taking Applications and Interpretation maths alongside physics often need this layer taught explicitly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways DAMAC Hills 2 families use physics tutoring, all online over live video. Which one depends on whether the gap is content, technique or the investigation.

Weekly course support

A fixed slot with one physics specialist following the school's own scheme of work, closing content gaps as they appear rather than after a mock reveals them. Across a two-year Diploma this is what produces a grade, and it is the only mode in which a tutor learns which errors are habits.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Matched to Higher or Standard Level correctly
  • Paced against the school's current topic
  • Reviews framed by paper and assessment objective

Technique block: uncertainties, graphs and the practical paper

A short targeted run on the skills that cost the most marks and are taught in the greatest hurry. Uncertainty propagation, significant figures, choosing what to plot, reading physics from a gradient, and for HL candidates the practical and data-analysis paper specifically. Six to ten sessions usually settles it.

  • Diagnostic on real data-analysis questions first
  • Six to ten sessions with a written topic list as the scope
  • Explicit preparation for the Higher Level practical paper
  • Transfers directly into Internal Assessment quality

Internal Assessment coaching

Process support on the investigation that carries 20% of the grade. The tutor helps shape a research question with a genuinely measurable variable, checks the method will produce data worth analysing, and gives criterion-level feedback on a draft the student has written. Every measurement, calculation and sentence stays the student's own.

  • Research question narrowed until the variable is measurable
  • Method checked for range, repeats and controlled variables
  • Feedback mapped to the published criteria and their marks
  • No writing, no supplied data, no editing to a finish

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DAMAC Hills 2

01

What each physics component is worth and where marks disappear

Students revise topics; examiners mark components. Organising preparation around the second is what separates a student who knows physics from one who scores it, and the distinction is particularly stark in this subject because so much of the assessment is skill rather than recall.

Every Diploma physics candidate sits written papers plus the Internal Assessment at 20% of the grade. Higher Level adds a third written paper testing experimental technique and data analysis. The loss patterns per component are consistent enough to plan against: the short-answer paper punishes definitions written in approximately the right words; the structured paper rewards visible method and penalises an answer with no working; and the practical paper catches students who have never been taught to evaluate a method rather than execute one.

The most expensive habit across all of them is stopping too early. A physics answer earns marks for the steps, not only the result, and a student who computes mentally and writes one line forfeits credit they had genuinely earned. Changing that is a behaviour change rather than a knowledge gain, it takes a few weeks of marked practice, and it is probably the cheapest grade movement available in the subject.

The table sets the components against their real failure modes. The last column names what to practise, which is almost never the topic the student would have named.

One point about weightings, since parents ask. The exact percentage each paper carries is published in the current subject guide and the school can confirm it, so we do not restate figures here that the IB may revise. What does not change is the shape: the content papers reward precision and visible method, the practical paper rewards evaluation, and the investigation rewards design. Plan against the shape.

Uncertainties and graphs: the part that is not physics content

If there is one section of this page to act on, it is this one. Uncertainty handling and graph linearisation are examined across the whole course, are worth a substantial number of marks, are not conceptually difficult, and are taught in a rush in almost every school because the practical timetable is crowded. That combination makes them the highest-return work available in IB physics.

The specific confusions are predictable. Absolute uncertainty treated as percentage, or the reverse. Uncertainties added when they should be combined as fractions. A final answer quoted to six significant figures when the measurement justified two. An uncertainty on a gradient estimated by eye with no attempt at a maximum and minimum line. Each of those is a single-session fix, and each recurs in every paper until it is fixed.

Linearisation is the other half. Many physics relationships are not straight lines, and the examinable skill is choosing what to plot so that they become one — plotting against the reciprocal, the square, or the logarithm, depending on the relationship — and then reading a physical quantity from the gradient or intercept. Students who have met this only once tend to plot the raw variables, get a curve, and have nothing to say about it.

This also transfers straight into the Internal Assessment, where the processing and evaluation marks depend on exactly these skills. A student who handles uncertainty properly in their investigation is accessing marks that a student with identical data and sloppier analysis cannot. The table below is the checklist we work through.

UNCERTAINTY AND GRAPH TECHNIQUE: WHAT TO DO AND THE USUAL ERROR

03

The Internal Assessment is lost at the design stage

  • Most IA marks are decided in the planning fortnight, not in the write-up
  • Measurable variable, adequate range, enough repeats, genuinely controlled variables
  • Permitted: criteria explained, method tested, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not permitted: writing, supplying data, model investigations, editing to a finish

Twenty per cent of the physics grade comes from an individual investigation, and by the time most students ask for help the marks that mattered have already been decided. Not in the writing. In the fortnight when the research question was chosen and the method was planned.

The recurring design faults are specific. A research question with no genuinely measurable independent variable, so nothing can be varied systematically. A range too narrow for a relationship to show above the noise. Too few repeats to say anything honest about reliability. A controlled variable that was not actually controlled, which the student discovers at the evaluation stage when it is too late to do anything but confess it. None of these is a writing problem and none of them can be fixed by a better conclusion.

A tutor who reads the criteria with the student in week one is therefore worth several who read a draft in week ten. The permitted work is substantial: explaining what each criterion rewards and what it is worth, testing whether a proposed question can be investigated with the equipment available, checking the planned range and repeats will produce analysable data, and giving feedback on the student's own draft against the criteria.

The line is authorship, and it is firm. A tutor may not write any part of the investigation, supply data or calculations, provide a model to adapt, or edit a draft to a finish. The student signs an authorship declaration and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice. This search result contains operators selling completed Internal Assessments — one advertises them at AED 3,750 — and buying one risks the whole Diploma rather than one component.

04

The maths a physics student is assumed to have

This is the hidden prerequisite, and it explains a large share of the physics struggles we diagnose. IB physics assumes a level of algebraic comfort that the course itself does not teach: rearranging an equation with the unknown in the denominator, working with indices and standard form at speed, using logarithms when a relationship is exponential, resolving vectors with trigonometry, and reasoning fluently about gradients and intercepts.

Where this bites hardest is the combination of Physics Higher Level with Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation. AI is an excellent course and emphasises modelling, statistics and technology rather than algebraic manipulation, which means a student may be doing well in maths and still lack the specific fluency their physics paper demands. That pairing is common in Dubai schools and it is not a mistake, but it needs the algebra taught explicitly alongside rather than assumed.

The diagnostic consequence is that we look underneath the named topic. A student who says fields are the problem often cannot rearrange the expression confidently enough to see what the question is asking. A student who says the practical paper is impossible often cannot take logarithms of both sides to find a power relationship. Teaching more fields content to the first student, or more experimental theory to the second, misses the layer where the marks are going.

In practice this means a short algebraic block early is one of the best investments a Year 12 physics family can make, and it is cheaper and faster than it sounds. Six to ten focused sessions on rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning changes how every subsequent physics session lands.

05

Fitting physics into a DAMAC Hills 2 week

  • Physics needs an hour the student can still think in, not the first free slot
  • Year 12: usually 4:45pm straight off the Motor City or Sports City run
  • Year 13: usually 8pm for ninety minutes, for full data-analysis questions
  • Weekend mornings suit physics better than scattered weekday hours

Physics is cognitively dense, and the hour it is taught in matters as much as who teaches it. A tired student can read and absorb something; a tired student cannot follow a derivation or hold three variables in mind while rearranging an expression. Booking whichever slot happens to be free is therefore a worse decision in physics than in most subjects.

The clock out here is unforgiving. A school day ending at half three in Motor City or Dubai Sports City means a 4:45pm arrival home in afternoon traffic on Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road; from an inner-city IB school it is closer to five. Because nobody is driving to you, a session can begin at 4:45pm, which for a Year 12 student is often the best hour available. For a Year 13 student the better choice is usually 8pm for ninety minutes, when a full data-analysis question plus marking fits without rushing.

Weekend mornings are the underused option and they suit physics particularly well, because the subject rewards sustained work on one thread rather than scattered half-hours. Two hours on a Friday or Saturday morning during an Internal Assessment term is frequently the most productive block in the week, and it competes with nothing else.

Ramadan needs planning rather than improvising: school days shorten, evenings reorganise around Iftar, and families here typically shift to a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot, or pause part of the month and resume with a heavier block. Prayer times are built into the slot from the start. What we try to avoid is the drift of cancel, reschedule, cancel, which in physics breaks continuity faster than in any other subject because each session builds directly on the last.

06

What physics tutoring costs in this market

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai research giving the specialist band as AED 200-450 plus. Budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33-65, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. In-home visits are AED 180-500 including travel. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

Physics has a sharper version of the budget-band problem than most subjects, because the thing a cheap generalist cannot do is exactly the thing the marks depend on. Explaining Newton's laws is within reach of many capable graduates. Teaching uncertainty propagation correctly, insisting on a maximum and minimum line through error bars, and knowing what the practical paper rewards is not. A term at AED 50 an hour with somebody who has never marked a data-analysis question is the clearest example of a cheap purchase producing nothing.

Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 for budget tutoring at one hour a week, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits.

Read those bands as attribution rather than as a price list of ours: each figure belongs to the provider named beside it, and none of them is an IB Gram price. We publish no rate card on these pages, and the reason sits in the paragraph above - the honest number depends on the level, on the specific gap the marked work exposes, and on the weeks remaining. A family in DAMAC Hills 2 whose daughter is losing marks on uncertainty treatment in the autumn term is buying something quite different from one whose son has a thin fields topic with a term to go, and one advertised figure would misprice both of them. So the trial lesson is free, the diagnostic happens inside it, and the quote comes after the diagnostic rather than before it.

The physics year counted backwards from the May session

UAE schools sit the Diploma in the May session, and planning a physics year backwards from there shows why early help is worth more than late help. The Internal Assessment is worth 20% and is finished long before any exam revision starts. The practical paper, for HL candidates, needs technique built over months rather than crammed.

One honesty note. The IB's own site blocks automated retrieval, so no IB exam or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org. We write about the May session as the one UAE schools sit and publish no specific date — get those from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org, which are the only sources worth planning around. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published and we use them: Cambridge runs June and November series, with the February/March series offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

The sequence that works: algebraic foundations and uncertainty technique secured early in Year 12, because everything afterwards uses them. Internal Assessment question chosen in the second half of Year 12, while it can still be a good question rather than an available one. Investigation completed to the school's internal deadline. Mocks. Then a final term that is almost entirely paper technique, including dedicated practical-paper work for HL candidates.

The practical consequence for a DAMAC Hills 2 family is that early Year 12 is the best time to start and March of Year 13 is the worst. In March the only remaining lever is technique, which is genuinely worth marks but is smaller than foundations plus the investigation plus technique together.

08

What we will not claim about physics results

  • No grade, points or improvement guarantees of any kind
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No regulator claims, no UAE office, no unevidenced examiner descriptions
  • An honest diagnostic verdict instead, including when the time is too short

No grade guarantee. Not a 7, not a specific improvement, not a particular paper score. The variables — prior algebra, weeks remaining, whether the Internal Assessment was designed well, whether the student has ever been taught to show working — are not all under a tutor's control, and an offer that ignores that is a sales device.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which means none. No average physics score achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, and no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, occasionally in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never state how any of them was produced.

No regulator or awarding-body claim, and no examiner descriptions. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not describe its tutors as IB examiners because current examiner status is not something we can evidence. Examiner status also confers no access to marking, boundaries or paper content, whatever anybody implies. We host no IB past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables either; they belong to the IB and we link the official source instead.

What we will give you is a diagnostic verdict. After watching your child work real paper questions, a specialist will say whether the gap is content, the maths underneath, uncertainty technique or the investigation, roughly how long each takes to move, and whether the available time is enough. Sometimes the answer is that it is not, and that concentrating on two of those rather than four is the better plan.

Where we tutor

DAMAC Hills 2 and the physics school run

Which school your child attends decides what time a physics session can start, and the schools offering Diploma physics are rarely the nearest ones. Here is the belt around DAMAC Hills 2.

DAMAC Hills 2

Off the Al Qudra corridor, formerly Akoya Oxygen. Diploma students travel out, often to a school with a 3:30pm finish, which in afternoon traffic means a 4:45pm arrival home at best.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community and serves the younger end. Diploma physics students from here travel out in the same direction as their DAMAC Hills 2 neighbours.

Dubai Sports City

Fifteen to twenty minutes towards town, with GEMS United and Bradenton Preparatory Academy. The nearest cluster where Diploma-level science teaching is actually available.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole and a settled British-curriculum population. A very common destination from DAMAC Hills 2 and the cluster that sets the realistic earliest session time for the community.

Arabian Ranches 3

The nearest established neighbour on the Emirates Road side, sharing the school pool. Collection often runs twenty minutes earlier, which widens the evening for a 4:30pm physics slot.

Mudon

Al Qudra side, mostly younger. Science enquiries here are usually MYP criterion C work or Year 11 bridging rather than Diploma rescue, which is the better point to intervene.

Town Square

Further down the corridor with commuting parents, so physics sessions land after six or at weekends. Local HL physics supply is as thin as in DAMAC Hills 2.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the school's current topic

Higher or Standard Level, which school, and what the class is working on now. Also which maths course your child takes, because Applications and Interpretation alongside Physics HL changes what the diagnostic needs to check underneath the physics.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic on real paper questions

The student works through structured questions and at least one data-analysis question while a specialist watches. This is where the gap appears, and in physics it is usually technique or algebra rather than the topic the student named.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the physics specialist

The same tutor who would continue teaches a full session, with no card required and no obligation. Physics explanation style matters: a tutor who is correct and too fast produces a pleasant term with no movement. One hour tells you what no description can.

  4. 04

Set the slot where physics can be thought about

Around the DAMAC Hills 2 school run and prayer times — usually 4:45pm for Year 12, 8pm and ninety minutes for Year 13, or a weekend morning block during an Internal Assessment term. Physics does not survive a tired hour, so we will say when a slot will not work.

Review by component, not by impression

Every few weeks the tutor reports against something checkable: whether uncertainty propagation is now reliable, whether working is being shown, which criterion the investigation draft is weak on. If nothing has moved, that is where the plan or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We diagnose technique, not the topic

Students name electricity or fields; marked papers show uncertainties, unlinearised graphs, loose definitions and unshown working. Starting from a marked paper rather than the school report is what makes the first month productive.

The practical paper prepared for separately

Higher Level candidates sit a paper testing experimental technique and data analysis as a skill in its own right, and most schools reach it late inside a crowded practical timetable. We treat it as its own body of work rather than as revision.

The maths underneath checked first

IB physics assumes rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning that the course does not teach. For a student taking Applications and Interpretation maths alongside Physics HL, teaching that layer explicitly changes how every later session lands.

The investigation treated as 20% of the grade

Because it is, and because most of its marks are decided in the planning fortnight. We coach the research question early, check the range and repeats, and give criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft without touching the authorship.

Sessions at an hour physics survives

Nobody follows a derivation while tired. We plan from your school's finish time rather than from our availability, and no travel either side is the only reason a 4:45pm start exists from the Al Qudra corridor at all.

AED figures attributed, and no guarantees

Every rate here names the provider that published it and the month it was read, and none is an IB Gram price. No promised grade, no improvement percentage, no claimed regulator approval, no hosted past papers and no UAE home visits.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills 2: your questions answered

Why is my child struggling with IB physics when the IGCSE grade was strong?+

Because the step is real. IGCSE physics rewards recall and single-step calculation; Diploma physics expects derivation, multi-step reasoning, uncertainty treatment and graph work. A student with a strong IGCSE result can be genuinely lost by November of Year 12, and that is the curriculum rather than a decline in ability. The effective fix is a short early block on algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, graph interpretation and uncertainty basics, done in the summer or early Year 12 before two years of content gets built on an unstable layer.

What is the Higher Level physics practical paper and how is it prepared for?+

It is the third written paper that only HL candidates sit, and it tests experimental technique and data analysis directly: reading instruments to sensible precision, spotting that a method cannot answer its question, choosing controlled variables, judging whether data supports a conclusion, and linearising a relationship to read physics from a gradient. Schools teach it inside a crowded practical timetable and usually reach it late. It responds well to a separate block of past data-analysis questions, one a week, marked properly rather than discussed.

How much of the IB physics grade is the investigation worth?+

Twenty per cent, at both Higher and Standard Level, and most of those marks are decided before any data exists. The recurring design faults are a research question with no measurable independent variable, a range too narrow for a relationship to show above the noise, too few repeats to say anything honest about reliability, and a controlled variable that was not actually controlled. None of those is a writing problem, which is why a tutor reading the criteria with the student in week one is worth several reading a draft in week ten.

Can a tutor help with my child's physics Internal Assessment?+

With it, substantially; instead of them, not at all. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards and what it is worth, test whether a proposed research question can be investigated with the equipment available, check that the planned range and number of repeats will produce analysable data, and give feedback against the criteria on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any part of it, supply data or calculations, provide a model to adapt, or edit it to a finish. The student signs an authorship declaration.

What are the commonest uncertainty mistakes in IB physics?+

Four, and all are single-session fixes that recur in every paper until fixed. Adding percentage uncertainties where absolutes should be added, for quantities added or subtracted. Adding absolutes where fractional or percentage uncertainties should be combined, for quantities multiplied or divided. Forgetting to multiply the percentage uncertainty by the power when a quantity is raised to one. And quoting a final answer to the calculator's precision rather than the precision the measurement justified. Each is examined across components and each is taught in a hurry almost everywhere.

What does linearising a graph mean and why does it matter so much?+

Many physics relationships are not straight lines, and the examinable skill is choosing what to plot so that they become one — against the reciprocal, the square, or the logarithm, depending on the relationship — and then reading a physical quantity from the gradient or intercept. It matters because it appears in the practical paper, in structured questions, and in the Internal Assessment analysis marks. Students who have met it once tend to plot the raw variables, produce a curve, and have nothing to say about it. It is a technique rather than a topic, so it responds fast.

Does taking AI maths alongside Physics HL cause problems?+

It creates a specific gap worth planning for rather than a problem. Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and technology rather than algebraic manipulation, so a student can be doing well in maths and still lack the rearrangement, index and logarithm fluency their physics paper assumes. The combination is common in Dubai schools and workable, provided the algebra underneath is taught explicitly alongside. Six to ten focused sessions on rearrangement, indices, logarithms and gradient reasoning changes how every later physics session lands.

Is there an HL physics specialist living near DAMAC Hills 2?+

Usually not. The IB is about 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils spread across the whole emirate, only the final two years sit the Diploma, and Physics at Higher Level is a narrow specialism inside that. The pool of people who have taught it to final grade is small citywide, and most of them are serving school staff whose permit code of conduct bars tutoring students enrolled at their own school. Online matching removes distance from a problem in which distance was never the binding constraint.

What time should a physics session be scheduled out here?+

At an hour the student can still think in, which in physics matters more than most subjects — nobody follows a derivation while tired. For Year 12 that is usually 4:45pm, straight off the Motor City or Dubai Sports City run, a slot that exists only because nobody is driving to you. For Year 13 it is often 8pm for ninety minutes, when a full data-analysis question plus marking fits without rushing. Weekend mornings suit physics particularly well because the subject rewards sustained work on one thread.

Will a physics tutor come to our home in DAMAC Hills 2?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram delivers physics tuition to DAMAC Hills 2 one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Other Dubai providers do visit, at published rates of AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from the Al Qudra corridor a real share of that is the drive. For Diploma physics the binding constraint is whether the tutor can teach the practical paper and uncertainty work, which is unrelated to how close they live.

What are DAMAC Hills 2 families paying for IB physics help?+

Published figures read in October 2026: qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 an hour with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate giving AED 200-450 plus, budget online from AED 33-65 with Tutopiya and EdFlik, in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel, and BartyED at AED 650 premium. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist exam-year work. Those belong to the providers named; we quote after the diagnostic.

Is a cheap tutor ever enough for Diploma physics?+

Rarely, and physics shows why more clearly than most subjects. At AED 33-65 an hour a capable graduate can explain Newton's laws perfectly well. What they generally cannot do is teach uncertainty propagation correctly, insist on maximum and minimum lines through error bars, or tell a student what the practical paper actually rewards — and that is precisely where the marks are going. A term with somebody who has never marked a data-analysis question is the clearest example in this market of a cheap purchase producing nothing at all.

My child has mocks in six weeks. What is worth doing in that time?+

Technique, in a specific order, and nothing else. First, the rule that every step goes on paper, because method marks are being forfeited by a student computing mentally. Second, uncertainty propagation, which is four fixable confusions and recurs in every paper. Third, past structured questions marked properly rather than discussed, with the error pattern deciding the next session. Content gaps larger than a topic or two are not realistically closable in six weeks, and we will say so after the diagnostic rather than imply otherwise.

Would one tutor covering both physics and maths help our Year 13?+

Often yes, and in this pairing specifically there is a real argument for it. The algebraic and graphical demands overlap heavily, so one specialist can stop a student treating the two as unrelated and can teach the rearrangement layer once rather than twice. It also lets one person weigh a Physics Internal Assessment deadline against a maths mock instead of two tutors each optimising for their own subject. What we will not do is stretch a tutor across courses they do not genuinely teach to save a second match.

When are IB physics exams for schools near DAMAC Hills 2?+

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no specific IB date, and the reason matters: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org, and we will not put an unverified date in front of a family who will plan around it. Get exact dates from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. For IGCSE siblings, Cambridge runs June and November series — February/March is offered to India only — and Pearson runs May/June and November.

Bring a marked paper, not a topic name

The quickest way to make an IB physics tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 useful is to stop describing the problem as a topic and start from a marked paper. Send us the level, the school, which maths course your child takes and what time they get home, and a physics specialist will work through real questions with them — including a data-analysis question — and tell you whether the gap is content, algebra, uncertainty technique or the investigation. Then a free trial lesson with that specialist, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
