IB MYP Tutor in DAMAC Hills 2

Parents searching for an IB MYP tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 usually start from a report they cannot read: a 7 in criterion A, a 3 in criterion D, and no grade that explains what to do next. That report is more useful than it looks, and a tutor who works criterion by criterion can show you why. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Work organised by criterion, the way the MYP is actually marked
  • Tutors who have taught the MYP, not Diploma tutors scaled down
  • One-to-one live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE

Reading an MYP report, and what it is actually telling you

The Middle Years Programme is the stage at which Dubai parents most often lose the thread. A primary report said their child was doing well. A Diploma report will carry a familiar number out of seven. In between sit five years of reports showing four letters per subject, each scored out of eight, with no overall grade and no obvious instruction about what to do. Families in DAMAC Hills 2 come to us at this point more than at any other, and the first job is usually translation rather than teaching.

Here is the key. The MYP marks every subject against four criteria, each on a 0-8 scale, and the criteria differ by subject group. In Mathematics they are knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. In Sciences they are knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The criteria are not four attempts to measure the same thing. They measure genuinely different capabilities, which is why a profile of 7, 4, 5, 3 is informative and an average of those four numbers is not.

So a report showing a strong criterion A and a weak criterion D is not telling you that your child is a middling student. It is telling you something precise: they know the content and they cannot apply it to an unfamiliar real-world context, or they can investigate but cannot communicate the result. Those are different problems with different remedies, and a tutor who teaches more content to a student with a criterion D problem will spend a term on the wrong thing.

The second thing worth knowing is that the MYP is the honest preparation for whichever Diploma route follows, and the criteria predict it. A student strong in investigating patterns is being told something about Analysis and Approaches maths. A student strong in applying mathematics in real-life contexts is being told something about Applications and Interpretation. A student weak in the sciences' processing and evaluating criterion will struggle with the Diploma individual investigation two years before anyone mentions it.

The practical side out here is the Al Qudra corridor. DAMAC Hills 2 students mostly travel to school in Motor City, Dubai Sports City or further, and a half three finish becomes a 4:30pm arrival home in afternoon traffic. MYP-age students can sustain a 5pm or 5:30pm session comfortably, which is the band most families here settle into, and a tutor who still has to drive out pushes that past six. IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only.

Supply matters as well. The IB is roughly 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools, and MYP-specific tutoring is thinner still, because many tutors who advertise IB experience mean the Diploma. An MYP tutor who has not worked with the criteria will teach competently against the wrong target.

At a glance

  • Four criteria per subject, each 0-8, differing by subject group
  • A criterion profile is an instruction, not a score to be averaged
  • Criterion strengths predict which Diploma maths and science routes will suit
  • The Personal Project in Year 11 is assessed against its own criteria
  • MYP-age students work best at 5pm to 5:30pm after a Dubailand school run
  • Online one-to-one only in the UAE; no IB Gram home visits anywhere here
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The MYP spans five years and asks for very different things at each end. These are the stages we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 families, with what each actually demands.

MYP 1-3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

MYP Years 1 to 3, Years 7 to 9

The years in which criterion-based working becomes a habit or does not. Students meet tasks that ask them to investigate, communicate and reflect rather than simply answer, and the ones who treat every task as a test of recall score below what they know. Reports begin to show the four-letter profile that parents find hard to read.

DAMAC Hills 2 sees many arrivals from other systems at this stage, and a child moving in from CBSE or an American school meets criterion-based assessment for the first time. They are frequently quick and accurate and still marked down, because the task asked for a justified generalisation and they produced an answer. That is a fixable mismatch, not a weakness.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

MYP Years 4 and 5, Years 10 and 11

The demand rises sharply and the stakes become real, because these are the years that decide Diploma subject and level choices. Year 11 adds the Personal Project, a substantial independent piece assessed against its own criteria, which competes with everything else for the same hours.

This is where most of our DAMAC Hills 2 MYP work sits. The useful intervention is criterion-specific rather than general: identify which one or two criteria are consistently low across subjects, because the same underlying skill usually drives both, and work there rather than adding content hours.

Personal ProjectAge 15-16 · Year 11

The MYP Personal Project

An independent project of the student's choosing, assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills, reflecting and communicating the process. Marks are lost on process documentation far more often than on the product itself — students build something impressive and record almost nothing about how they did it.

The Personal Project is also the first serious rehearsal for the Diploma's Extended Essay and Internal Assessments, and students who learn to document a process here find the Diploma coursework dramatically less alarming. A tutor coaches the process and the reflection; the project remains entirely the student's own.

MYP to DPAge 16 · Year 11 into Year 12

The step into the Diploma

The largest curriculum step in the IB continuum. Criterion-based internal assessment gives way to external examination plus Internal Assessments, content depth increases sharply, and Higher Level subjects demand sustained independent work. Students comfortable in MYP 5 can be struggling by November of Year 12.

Criterion profiles are the best available predictor of this step, and nobody uses them. A student with a weak sciences processing and evaluating criterion will find the Diploma individual investigation hard; a student with weak mathematics communication will lose marks in the Exploration. Both are addressable in Year 11, cheaply, before the Diploma starts.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the MYP subject groups DAMAC Hills 2 families most often ask about, with the criteria that apply and where marks are genuinely lost in each.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended, MYP 1-5

Criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B rewards generalising from a pattern and justifying it, which no traditional maths lesson drills, and criterion C marks the quality of mathematical communication rather than the answer.

Sciences

Integrated and discipline-specific, MYP 1-5

Criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B asks for an investigation designed with controlled variables; criterion C asks for data processed and the method evaluated. These are the direct ancestors of Diploma practical work.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover analysing, organising, producing text and using language. Students lose marks by summarising a text rather than analysing how it produces meaning, exactly as they later will in Diploma Paper 1. Organisation is marked explicitly, which rewards planning before writing.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Criteria cover listening, reading, speaking and writing, assessed by phase rather than by year group. A student can be in a different phase from their year peers, which confuses parents and is entirely normal. Progress is measurable because the skills are discrete.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. The critical-thinking criterion is where most marks go missing: students describe sources rather than evaluating their reliability and usefulness, which is a teachable technique rather than a talent.

Design

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution and evaluating. Documentation carries the marks, and students routinely produce a good outcome with almost no record of the design cycle, which caps the score regardless of the product's quality.

Arts

Visual, performing and music, MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively and responding. The process journal is where marks sit, and students who treat it as an afterthought lose credit their practical work had already earned.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, and reflecting and improving performance. Written and reflective components surprise families who expect a purely practical subject, and they are where the marks are often lost.

The Personal Project

MYP 5, Year 11

Assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills, reflecting and communicating. Process documentation decides the score far more than the product does, which is why the single most useful coaching intervention is establishing a documentation habit in the first fortnight.

Approaches to learning skills

Across all subject groups

Thinking, research, communication, social and self-management skills, assessed implicitly through the subject criteria. Weak self-management shows up as low scores across several subjects at once, which is the pattern worth spotting on a report before any subject tutoring is bought.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways DAMAC Hills 2 families use MYP tutoring, all online over live video. The choice depends on whether the issue is one subject, one criterion across several subjects, or the Personal Project.

Criterion-focused weekly work

A fixed slot aimed at the one or two criteria that are consistently low across the report rather than at a single subject. Often the same underlying skill — justifying a generalisation, communicating a method, evaluating rather than describing — drives low scores in two or three subjects at once, so working the criterion lifts several at a time.

  • Starts from the report's criterion profile, not from a subject name
  • Sixty minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Tasks built to resemble the school's own criterion-assessed tasks
  • Reviews stated in criterion terms, so progress is checkable

Single-subject MYP support

Where one subject is genuinely behind rather than one skill being weak across several. Mathematics and Sciences are the commonest, usually in MYP 4 and 5 when content depth rises. The tutor follows the school's unit sequence and works to the criteria that unit is assessed against.

  • Paced against the school's current unit of inquiry
  • Criterion targets stated for each unit
  • Suited to MYP 4 and 5, where content depth increases
  • Includes explicit preparation for the step into the Diploma

Personal Project coaching

Process support for the Year 11 project. The tutor helps scope a project that is achievable in the time, establishes a documentation habit in the first fortnight, explains what each criterion rewards, and gives feedback on the student's own process journal and report. The project itself stays entirely the student's work.

  • Scope narrowed until the project is achievable alongside everything else
  • Documentation habit established early, when it still changes the score
  • Criterion-level feedback on the student's own journal and report
  • No producing, writing or finishing any part of the project

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DAMAC Hills 2

01

What the four criteria actually measure, by subject group

No competitor page publishes this, and it is the single most useful thing an MYP parent can have in front of them when reading a report. The criteria are not generic. They are specified per subject group, and knowing which is which turns an opaque profile into a to-do list.

In Mathematics the four are knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. In Sciences they are knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. In Individuals and Societies they cover knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. In Language and Literature they cover analysing, organising, producing text, and using language.

Each is marked 0-8, and the published descriptors make it clear what moves a score. A criterion A score reflects whether the content is known and can be used. A low score on an investigation or inquiry criterion reflects whether the student can design or generalise rather than whether they know the material. A low communication criterion reflects presentation of reasoning rather than the reasoning itself. A low evaluation or critical-thinking criterion reflects whether the student can judge rather than describe.

The table below sets out the criteria across subject groups with the diagnosis each low score implies. Read your child's report against it and the next step usually becomes obvious — and frequently it is not a subject tutor at all, but work on one transferable skill that is dragging three subjects down together.

MYP CRITERIA BY SUBJECT GROUP, AND WHAT A LOW SCORE MEANS
Subject groupCriterion AThe other threeWhat a low non-A score usually means
MathematicsKnowing and understandingInvestigating patterns; communicating; applying maths in real-life contextsContent is fine; the student cannot generalise, cannot present reasoning, or cannot transfer to context
SciencesKnowing and understandingInquiring and designing; processing and evaluating; reflecting on the impacts of scienceCannot design a controlled investigation, or cannot process and judge data
Individuals and SocietiesKnowing and understandingInvestigating; communicating; thinking criticallyDescribes sources instead of evaluating their reliability and usefulness
Language and LiteratureAnalysingOrganising; producing text; using languageSummarises instead of analysing, or writes without planning structure
Language AcquisitionListeningReading; speaking; writingA specific skill strand is behind; phases run independently of year group
DesignInquiring and analysingDeveloping ideas; creating the solution; evaluatingGood outcome, no documented design cycle — the commonest capped score
ArtsKnowing and understandingDeveloping skills; thinking creatively; respondingProcess journal neglected, so practical achievement is not credited
02

Why averaging the four numbers hides the answer

  • Two profiles with the same average can need completely different teaching
  • Look for one criterion low across several subjects — that is one problem, not three
  • A consistently strong criterion is a signal about Diploma route choice
  • Bring the actual report, not a summary of it, to the first conversation

This is the mistake almost every family makes with an MYP report, and it is entirely understandable, because every other reporting system a parent has met produces a single figure. Faced with 7, 4, 5 and 3, the instinct is to conclude that the child is around a 5 and could do better. That conclusion discards the only information the report contained.

A profile of 7, 4, 5, 3 and a profile of 5, 5, 5, 4 average similarly and mean completely different things. The first describes a student who knows the material well and cannot yet investigate, communicate or transfer it — a technique problem with specific, teachable remedies. The second describes a student with a uniform, modest grasp of everything, which is a content problem and needs content teaching. Buying the same tutoring for both is how a term gets wasted.

The pattern worth looking for is a criterion that is low across several subjects at once. A student scoring poorly on communication in Mathematics, on organising in Language and Literature, and on documentation in Design is not weak in three subjects. They have one self-management and structuring problem appearing in three places, and fixing it once lifts all three. We see this constantly, and it is almost never what a family comes to us asking for.

The opposite pattern also matters: a strong criterion that nobody has noticed. A student with consistently high investigating-patterns scores in Mathematics is showing an aptitude that points towards Analysis and Approaches and, eventually, towards quantitative degrees. Reports carry that signal for five years and almost nobody reads it, which is a shame given what the Year 11 subject choice decides.

03

The Personal Project is scored on process, not product

  • Criteria reward planning, skills, reflection and process communication
  • An impressive product with no documentation scores below a modest one with good records
  • Establish a dated journal habit in the first fortnight, not the final month
  • Coaching only: no producing, writing or finishing any part of the project

Year 11 adds an independent project of the student's choosing, assessed against its own criteria, and the way it is marked catches families out every single year. Students build, make or organise something genuinely impressive and receive a moderate score, and nobody can explain why.

The explanation is that the criteria reward planning, applying skills, reflecting and communicating the process — not the quality of the object produced. A student who designs a complex outcome and documents almost nothing about how decisions were made, what went wrong, what was learned and how the goal evolved is being assessed on the thin part of their work. Meanwhile a student with a modest project and a thorough, honest process journal scores well.

That makes the single most valuable intervention a documentation habit established in the first fortnight, before there is much to document. Not a retrospective write-up assembled in the final month, which reads as reconstruction because it is. Students who keep a short, dated entry after each working session have the raw material for genuine reflection; students who do not are writing fiction about their own project.

A tutor's role here is coaching and strictly coaching. Helping scope a project achievable alongside everything else a Year 11 is carrying. Explaining what each criterion rewards. Establishing the documentation habit. Giving feedback on the student's own journal and report against the criteria. What a tutor may not do is produce, write or finish any part of the project — the student signs for their own work, and this project is also their rehearsal for the Diploma coursework where the same rule applies with higher stakes.

04

The step from MYP 5 into the Diploma

This is the largest curriculum step in the IB continuum and the one families are least prepared for, because MYP 5 reports do not look like a warning. Criterion-based internal assessment gives way to external examination plus Internal Assessments. Content depth rises sharply. Higher Level subjects expect sustained independent work. Students who were comfortable in MYP 5 can be genuinely struggling by November of Year 12.

What makes this frustrating is that the MYP report predicted it and nobody read it that way. The sciences processing and evaluating criterion is a direct forerunner of the Diploma individual investigation, which carries 20% of a science grade. The mathematics communicating criterion forecasts how a student will fare in the Exploration. The Individuals and Societies critical-thinking criterion forecasts the Extended Essay. A student with low scores in those specific places is being told, two years early, where the Diploma will hurt.

The second part of the step is the subject and level choice at the end of Year 11, which the criterion profile also informs. Strong investigating patterns in Mathematics points towards Analysis and Approaches; strong applying-in-context scores point towards Applications and Interpretation. Strong criterion A with weak inquiry in Sciences suggests Standard Level will be more comfortable than Higher. None of that is deterministic, and all of it is better than choosing on which subject feels nicer in Year 11.

The practical recommendation is a short block in the second half of Year 11 or over the summer, targeted at the one or two criteria that forecast trouble. It costs a fraction of a Year 12 rescue and it arrives before two years of content has been built on top of the gap.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies alongside the MYP

This is absent from almost every competitor page and it is a real part of an MYP student's week in Dubai. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The structure is specific. KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with Arabic the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

There are two further details worth knowing as a parent. KHDA requires that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a concrete, checkable credential point. And mandatory-subject instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools permitted to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advice that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes.

One constraint applies directly to tutoring in these subjects: for the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. That is a genuine limit on how any provider may describe Arabic, Islamic or Social Studies support, and it is why we describe this work as helping a student with the material their school teaches rather than as an alternative curriculum.

06

Fitting MYP sessions into a DAMAC Hills 2 week

  • MYP students work best around 5pm, after the run and some food
  • MYP 4 and 5 can push to 6pm; below MYP 3, earlier is genuinely better
  • Weekend mornings suit this age group better than late weekday slots
  • Ramadan pattern agreed in advance rather than improvised week by week

MYP-age students have a narrower usable window than Diploma students, and getting that wrong wastes the money regardless of how good the tutor is. A fifteen-year-old can work at eight in the evening. A twelve-year-old cannot, and a Year 8 student who has spent fifty minutes in a car after a full school day is not going to produce their best thinking at half six.

The arithmetic out here: a half three finish in Motor City or Dubai Sports City means a 4:30pm arrival home in afternoon traffic. Because nobody is driving to you, a session can begin at 5pm after a break and some food, which for MYP students is the sweet spot — late enough to have decompressed, early enough to still concentrate. MYP 4 and 5 students can push to 6pm comfortably. Below MYP 3, earlier is better and we will say so.

Weekend mornings are the alternative and for this age group they are often better than any weekday slot. Two hours on a Friday or Saturday morning during a Personal Project term, or during a unit with a criterion-assessed task due, is more productive than scattered tired half-hours. It is also the honest answer for a household running school runs to two or three different schools.

Ramadan and the school calendar get planned rather than discovered: shortened days, evenings reorganised around Iftar, and a shift to late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slots, or a deliberate pause with a heavier block afterwards. Prayer times are built in from the start. The pattern we work to avoid is cancel, reschedule, cancel, which with younger students ends an arrangement faster than anyone admits.

07

What MYP tutoring costs, and the mismatch to avoid

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate putting the band at AED 200-450 plus. In-home visits are AED 180-500 including travel. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

MYP sits in an unusual place on that ladder, and it is worth understanding before you buy. The budget band is more viable here than it is for the Diploma, because a capable graduate can genuinely help an MYP 2 student with content and confidence. What the budget band cannot do is work to the criteria, and if the report shows a criterion problem rather than a content problem, that limitation is the whole issue.

The specific mismatch to avoid is the opposite one: paying Diploma specialist rates for a tutor who has never taught the MYP. Many tutors advertising IB experience mean the Diploma, and a Diploma specialist handed an MYP 3 student will teach excellent content against the wrong target — more depth, when the report was asking for justified generalisation or documented process. That is an expensive misfit and it looks entirely satisfactory for a term.

Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 for one weekly hour at the budget band, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist work. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. All figures belong to the providers named; none is an IB Gram price. We quote after the diagnostic, because the honest number depends on the year, the criterion and whether the Personal Project is in play.

What we will not claim about MYP progress

  • No criterion, grade or improvement guarantees
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No regulator or KHDA teaching-approval claims of any kind
  • Sometimes the honest answer is that the report is fine and no tutoring is needed

No guarantee of a criterion score, a grade or an improvement. Criterion scores move when a student changes how they approach a task, which takes practice and happens on the student's timeline rather than ours, and an offer that ignores that is a sales device.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which means none published. No average criterion scores achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, sometimes in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never state how any of them was produced.

No regulator or awarding-body claim. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE or IB approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not claim KHDA teaching approval of any kind — which is a real credential for Arabic and Islamic Education teachers in schools, and not something a tutoring platform holds. We also host no IB material as downloads; subject guides and criteria belong to the IB and we reference them.

And no promise that a tutor will visit a DAMAC Hills 2 address, because we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE at any price. What we will do is read the report with you, say which criterion is actually driving the problem, and sometimes tell you that no tutoring is needed — that the profile describes a student who is doing fine and whose parents have been reading an unfamiliar scale as a bad result.

Where we tutor

DAMAC Hills 2 and the communities on this corridor

MYP-age students need an earlier session than Diploma students, and the school run decides whether that is possible. Here is the belt around DAMAC Hills 2.

DAMAC Hills 2

Off the Al Qudra corridor, formerly Akoya Oxygen. MYP students travel out to Motor City, Sports City or further, which puts the workable session band at 5pm to 6pm rather than earlier.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community, so families there have a short run and can use a 4pm or 4:30pm slot, which suits MYP-age attention better than anything later.

Mudon

Al Qudra side, with a population concentrated in exactly the MYP years. Enquiries here are often about reading the criterion report rather than about a specific subject weakness.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, with the shortest run in the belt and therefore the widest usable afternoon for a younger MYP student.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established neighbour on the Emirates Road side, sharing the school pool. Earlier collection times make a 4:30pm MYP session realistic here.

Serena

A quieter Dubailand community with the same structure and the same scarcity of tutors who have actually worked with MYP criteria rather than Diploma content.

Town Square

Further along the corridor with commuting parents, so MYP sessions often have to be weekend mornings, which for this age group works better than a late evening slot anyway.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the actual report, not a summary

We want the criterion scores per subject, because the profile is the diagnosis. A parent's summary — doing badly in science — discards exactly the information that would tell a tutor whether the problem is content, investigation design, data processing or reflection.

  2. 02

We look for a criterion low across subjects

Before recommending any subject tutoring, we check whether one transferable skill is dragging several subjects at once. Communication in maths, organising in language, documentation in design: that is one problem in three places, and fixing it once lifts all three.

    A short diagnostic on a criterion-assessed task

The student works a task of the kind their school actually sets, assessed against the real criteria, while a tutor watches. That shows whether they know the content and are answering the wrong question, which at MYP level is the commonest situation by a wide margin.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

One full lesson with the tutor who would continue, no card required and no obligation, at the time you intend to keep. At MYP age pace and rapport matter more than credentials, so this hour is the only reliable information available.

  5. 05

    Review in criterion terms

Progress reported as which criterion has moved and what the student now does differently, not as a general impression. If nothing has shifted after a few weeks, that review is where the plan or the tutor changes rather than where reassurance is offered.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We work from the criteria, not from a subject name

The MYP marks four criteria per subject on a 0-8 scale and they measure different capabilities. A tutor who teaches more content to a student with a criterion D problem spends a term on the wrong thing, pleasantly.

MYP experience, not Diploma experience scaled down

Many tutors advertising IB experience mean the Diploma. A Diploma specialist handed an MYP 3 student teaches excellent content against the wrong target, which is an expensive misfit that looks satisfactory for months.

We read the report as a prediction

A weak sciences processing criterion forecasts trouble with the Diploma individual investigation; weak mathematics communication forecasts the Exploration. Those signals sit in reports for five years and almost nobody uses them, which is the cheapest preparation available.

The Personal Project coached on process

It is scored on planning, skills, reflection and process communication rather than on the product. We establish the documentation habit in the first fortnight, when it still changes the score, and the project stays entirely the student's own.

Sessions at an hour this age group can use

MYP students work best around 5pm after the run and some food, and below MYP 3 earlier is genuinely better. We plan from your school's finish time and will recommend a weekend morning rather than take a slot that will not work.

No guarantees, and sometimes no sale

No criterion or grade promises, no invented statistics, no regulator claims and no UAE home visits. Occasionally we read a report and tell a family their child is doing fine and the unfamiliar scale was the problem.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills 2: your questions answered

What do the MYP criteria A to D actually mean?+

Four different capabilities, specified per subject group and each marked 0-8. In Mathematics they are knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. In Sciences they are knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. In Individuals and Societies they cover knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. They are not four attempts at the same measurement, which is why the profile matters and the average does not.

Why does my child's MYP report have no overall grade?+

Because the programme deliberately reports capability by capability rather than as a single figure. Each subject carries four criterion scores out of eight, and the point is that a 7 in one and a 3 in another is an instruction about what to work on rather than a middling overall result. The absence of a single grade is disorienting if you have come from a percentage-based system, but the information content is higher: a profile tells a tutor where to start, which a single number never does.

Should I average my child's four criterion scores?+

No, and it is the commonest mistake MYP parents make. A profile of 7, 4, 5, 3 and one of 5, 5, 5, 4 average similarly and mean entirely different things: the first is a student who knows the material and cannot yet investigate, communicate or transfer it, which is a technique problem with teachable remedies; the second is a uniform modest grasp of everything, which needs content teaching. Buying the same tutoring for both wastes a term. Bring the actual scores, not an average.

What does a low criterion D mean in MYP maths?+

In Mathematics, criterion D is applying mathematics in real-life contexts. A low score there alongside a strong criterion A means the content is known and the student cannot transfer it to an unfamiliar practical situation — they can do the technique when told which technique it is, and not when the question is dressed as a real scenario. That is pattern-recognition and modelling practice rather than more content, and it also says something useful about the eventual Analysis and Approaches versus Applications and Interpretation choice.

My child's scores are low in one criterion across three subjects. What now?+

That is one problem in three places rather than three subject weaknesses, and it is the most efficient thing to fix. Communication low in Mathematics, organising low in Language and Literature and documentation low in Design is usually a single structuring and self-management issue surfacing wherever it is assessed. Working the underlying skill once lifts all three subjects, which is cheaper and faster than three subject tutors. This is the first thing we look for on a report, and it is almost never what a family comes asking for.

Why did an impressive Personal Project get a moderate score?+

Against criteria covering planning, applying skills, reflecting and communicating the process — not on the quality of the object produced. Every year students build something genuinely impressive, document almost nothing about how decisions were made or what went wrong, and receive a moderate score nobody can explain. A modest project with a thorough, dated process journal outscores it. The most valuable intervention is establishing the documentation habit in the first fortnight rather than reconstructing it in the final month, which always reads as reconstruction.

Where does Personal Project coaching stop being allowed?+

With the process, substantially. A tutor can help scope a project that is achievable alongside everything else a Year 11 carries, explain what each criterion rewards, establish the documentation habit early, and give feedback on the student's own journal and report against the criteria. A tutor cannot produce, write or finish any part of the project. The student signs for their own work, and this project is also their rehearsal for Diploma coursework where the same rule applies with considerably higher stakes.

Why is Year 12 so much harder than MYP 5?+

Because it is the largest step in the continuum. Criterion-based internal assessment gives way to external examination plus Internal Assessments, content depth rises sharply, and Higher Level subjects expect sustained independent work. Students comfortable in MYP 5 can be struggling by November of Year 12. What is frustrating is that the MYP report predicted it: a weak sciences processing and evaluating criterion forecasts difficulty with the Diploma individual investigation, and weak mathematics communication forecasts the Exploration.

Do MYP criterion scores predict the right Diploma subject choices?+

They are the best available signal and almost nobody uses them. Consistently strong investigating patterns in Mathematics points towards Analysis and Approaches and, eventually, quantitative degrees. Strong applying-in-context scores point towards Applications and Interpretation. Strong criterion A with weak inquiry in Sciences suggests Standard Level will be more comfortable than Higher. None of it is deterministic and all of it beats choosing on which subject feels nicer in Year 11, which is how the decision is usually made.

Is an MYP tutor different from an IB Diploma tutor?+

Yes, and the difference costs money when it is ignored. Many tutors advertising IB experience mean the Diploma, and a Diploma specialist handed an MYP 3 student will teach excellent content against the wrong target — more depth, when the report was asking for justified generalisation or documented process. It looks entirely satisfactory for a term. Ask directly whether a tutor has worked with the MYP criteria, by name, for the subject group in question, and treat a vague answer as a no.

What time should an MYP session be for a DAMAC Hills 2 family?+

Around 5pm for most MYP students: late enough to have decompressed after the run from Motor City or Dubai Sports City and eaten something, early enough to still concentrate. MYP 4 and 5 students can push to 6pm comfortably. Below MYP 3, earlier is genuinely better and we will say so rather than take a later booking. Weekend mornings often work better than any weekday slot for this age group, and for households running school runs to two or three schools they are frequently the only honest answer.

What does MYP tutoring cost for a DAMAC Hills 2 family?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026: budget online from AED 33-65 an hour (Tutopiya, EdFlik), qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270, and in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist work. The budget band is more viable at MYP than at Diploma for content help, but it cannot work to the criteria.

Do DAMAC Hills 2 MYP pupils still sit Arabic and Islamic Education?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA requiring its current arrangements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating combined classes are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. These subjects sit alongside the MYP, not inside it.

Will an MYP tutor come to our house in DAMAC Hills 2?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram delivers MYP tuition to DAMAC Hills 2 one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. We acknowledge that physical presence matters more at MYP age than at Diploma age, and for a younger or less self-managing child an in-home tutor genuinely has an advantage. Other Dubai providers offer that at published rates of AED 180-500 an hour including travel. The free trial lesson is how you test whether the format works for your child.

My child moved from another system and the MYP marking seems unfair. Is it?+

Usually it is unfamiliar rather than unfair, and the mismatch is specific. Students arriving from a drilled, answer-focused system are frequently quick and accurate and still marked down, because the task asked for a justified generalisation, a designed investigation or a documented process and they produced an answer. The content knowledge is often ahead of their classmates'. What is missing is the shape of response the criteria reward, which is teachable in weeks rather than years once somebody names it.

Send the report and we will read it with you

The useful first step with an IB MYP tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 is not booking lessons. It is sending us the actual criterion scores, subject by subject, and letting a tutor who knows the MYP tell you what the profile is asking for — a content gap, an investigation-design gap, a communication gap, or one self-management problem showing up in three subjects at once. Sometimes the answer is a short block on one criterion, sometimes a weekly subject slot, and occasionally that the report is fine. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no UAE home visits.
