IB Chemistry Tutor in DAMAC Hills 2

Most parents hiring an IB chemistry tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 arrive with the same two sentences: organic chemistry has become impossible, and the grade has slipped since Year 12. Both are predictable, both are specific, and neither is fixed by covering the syllabus again. IB Gram matches a chemistry specialist at the level your child sits and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in DAMAC Hills 2

Why IB chemistry slips in Year 12, and what actually fixes it

Chemistry is the Diploma science where a student can be working hard, revising diligently, and still watching the grade fall. The reason is that the course changes character partway through. IGCSE and MYP chemistry reward knowing things: formulae, reagents, trends, definitions. Diploma chemistry rewards explaining why, and particularly why a reaction goes the way it does. A student who revises by memorising runs out of road somewhere in the organic topic and often cannot say what happened.

There are two walls and they are reliably the same two. Organic mechanisms are the first. A student can recite that a halogenoalkane plus hydroxide gives an alcohol, and still lose every mark on a question asking them to explain the attack, because they have never been taught to reason about electron density, partial charge and where a nucleophile goes. The second is energetics and thermodynamics — enthalpy cycles, entropy, Gibbs free energy — where the arithmetic is manageable and the sign conventions quietly destroy answers.

Underneath both sits moles. Stoichiometry, concentration, limiting reagent, percentage yield, gas volumes. Students arrive from IGCSE able to balance an equation and not able to carry a multi-step calculation through unit conversions under time pressure, and because every topic uses it, a weakness in moles presents as a weakness in everything. Any diagnostic worth having checks this before it checks anything the student named.

Then the Internal Assessment, worth 20% of the grade, and lost far more often at the design stage than in the writing. A chemistry investigation needs a research question with a genuinely measurable variable, a method that can produce enough data to say something about uncertainty, and controlled variables that were actually controlled. Students typically ask for help once the data is collected, by which time the available mark has been set.

The practical realities out here shape the help. DAMAC Hills 2 sits along the Al Qudra corridor and almost every Diploma student travels out to school — Motor City, Dubai Sports City, deeper into the city. A half three finish becomes a 4:45pm arrival home in afternoon traffic, and a tutor who still has to drive here makes it half six. IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only.

And the supply is thin. The IB accounts for roughly 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils across 227 schools, spread citywide, with only the final two years sitting the Diploma. Chemistry at Higher Level is a narrow specialism within that, and the probability that a qualified HL chemistry teacher lives near DAMAC Hills 2 with a free weekday evening is low. Online matching makes the question irrelevant.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry asks for something different at each stage, and the help that works changes with it. These are the stages we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 families.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences, the chemistry strand

Marked against four criteria on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B asks for an investigation designed with controlled variables and criterion C for data processed and the method evaluated, which is where Diploma practical skill begins.

A DAMAC Hills 2 parent reading a strong criterion A and a weak criterion C is not looking at a general science problem but at the experimental strand specifically. Fixing it in Years 9 and 10 is the cheapest preparation for Diploma chemistry available, and it predicts how a student will handle the individual investigation two years later.

DP SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry Standard Level

Written papers plus the Internal Assessment at 20% of the grade. Breadth rather than depth, which makes coverage the risk: a topic taught in a hurried fortnight can stay unlearned until a mock finds it. Precise use of chemical language is examined constantly — a nearly-right definition scores nothing.

SL chemistry is a frequent choice for DAMAC Hills 2 students heading towards life sciences, nutrition or business, and is often paired with Biology. The pairing is sensible, but the two subjects reward different habits: biology rewards recall structured by command term, chemistry rewards explanation, and students sometimes apply the biology habit to a chemistry paper.

DP HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry Higher Level

Additional depth across the course plus an extra written paper, with the Internal Assessment still at 20%. HL organic chemistry extends into reaction pathways and stereochemistry, and HL energetics into entropy and spontaneity. The level rewards students who can build an argument across several steps and penalises formula lookup.

This is the level most medicine, dentistry and pharmacy applications require, which means DAMAC Hills 2 families often need precisely the specialist the neighbourhood cannot supply. It is also where local availability most often reaches zero, which is the whole case for matching online rather than by distance.

BridgeAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

IGCSE or MYP into Diploma chemistry

The step that catches strong students. IGCSE chemistry rewards recall and single-step calculation; Diploma chemistry expects mechanism-level explanation and multi-step quantitative work. A high IGCSE grade is not protection, and the slip usually shows by November of Year 12.

The intervention that works is a short block on moles, concentration and multi-step calculation plus an introduction to reasoning about electron density, taken in the summer or early Year 12. Done then it is inexpensive; done in Year 13 it is a rescue with two years of content sitting on top of it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the chemistry topics and components DAMAC Hills 2 students most often need work on, with the specific place marks go. Availability varies by level and term and is confirmed at the trial lesson.

Moles, stoichiometry and concentration

HL and SL

The layer every other topic stands on. Multi-step conversions between mass, moles, volume and concentration, limiting reagent, percentage yield and gas calculations. A weakness here presents as a weakness in everything else, so it is the first thing a diagnostic should test.

Organic chemistry: mechanisms

HL and SL

Nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and, at HL, longer pathways and stereochemistry. The marks are in explaining why a species attacks where it does, using electron density and partial charge. Reagent lists memorised without that reasoning collapse on an unfamiliar question.

Energetics and thermodynamics

HL and SL

Enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies, and at HL entropy and Gibbs free energy. The chemistry is usually understood and the sign conventions are usually not, so answers are internally consistent and wrong. This is a technique fix rather than a content one.

Equilibrium and kinetics

HL and SL

Le Chatelier reasoning, equilibrium constants, rate equations and, at HL, determining orders from data. Students often state what shifts rather than explaining why, and the HL rate-determination questions are where data-handling confidence shows.

Acids, bases and redox

HL and SL

pH and pKa calculations, buffers, titration curves and electrochemical cells. Titration-curve interpretation and buffer reasoning are reliably examined and reliably weak, and both improve quickly with worked practice against the mark scheme.

Atomic structure and periodicity

HL and SL

Electron configuration, ionisation energy trends and the explanations behind them. Students can state a trend and lose every explanation mark because the answer omits shielding, nuclear charge or atomic radius as the reason rather than the label.

Bonding and structure

HL and SL

Intermolecular forces, molecular geometry and the link between structure and physical property. Explaining a boiling point difference properly requires naming the force and comparing its strength, and partial answers lose most of the credit available.

Data analysis and uncertainty in chemistry

HL and SL

Percentage uncertainty in titrations and mass measurements, significant figures justified by the apparatus, and whether a result supports a conclusion. Examined in the papers and decisive in the investigation's processing and evaluation marks.

The Chemistry Internal Assessment

HL and SL, 20% of the grade

An individual investigation against published criteria. Lost most often at design: no measurable variable, insufficient repeats, a range too narrow to show a trend, or a controlled variable that was not controlled. Criterion reading in week one beats draft reading in week ten.

Practical technique and the alternative to the bench

HL and SL

Titration precision, dilution, gravimetric technique and the reasoning behind them. Bench work happens at school; what one-to-one work adds is prediction, anomaly handling, uncertainty treatment and writing up to the expected standard.

Chemical language and command terms

HL and SL

State, outline, explain, deduce, discuss and evaluate each want a different shape of answer, and chemistry punishes imprecision harder than most subjects. A knowledgeable student answering the wrong command term is a routine and entirely fixable loss.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways DAMAC Hills 2 families use chemistry tutoring, all online over live video. Which one fits depends on whether the gap is the quantitative layer, the mechanisms or the investigation.

Weekly course support

A fixed slot with one chemistry specialist following the school's own scheme of work, closing gaps in the week they appear rather than after a mock finds them. Over a two-year Diploma this is what produces a grade, and it is the only mode in which a tutor learns which errors are habits rather than accidents.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Matched to Higher or Standard Level correctly
  • Paced against the school's current topic, not a textbook order
  • Reviews framed by topic and by command term

Quantitative foundations block

A short, specific run on the layer underneath the course: moles, concentration, multi-step conversions, limiting reagent, percentage yield and the uncertainty treatment that goes with them. Most students who name organic chemistry as the problem need some of this too, and six to ten sessions usually settles it.

  • Diagnostic on real multi-step calculation questions first
  • Six to ten sessions with a written topic list as the scope
  • Best taken in the summer before Year 12 or early in Year 12
  • Transfers directly into the investigation's processing marks

Internal Assessment coaching

Process support on the investigation carrying 20% of the grade. The tutor helps shape a research question with a measurable variable, checks the method can produce enough data to analyse, and gives criterion-level feedback on a draft the student has written. Every measurement, calculation and sentence stays the student's own.

  • Research question narrowed until the variable is genuinely measurable
  • Method checked for range, repeats and controlled variables
  • Feedback mapped to the published criteria and their mark allocations
  • No writing, no supplied data, no editing to a finish

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DAMAC Hills 2

01

The two walls: organic mechanisms and energetics

Almost every chemistry enquiry we take from DAMAC Hills 2 names one of these, and they fail for opposite reasons, which is why they need different teaching.

Organic chemistry fails because it is taught, and revised, as a catalogue. Reagent plus substrate gives product. Learn the list. That survives until a question gives an unfamiliar molecule or asks for an explanation of the mechanism, at which point a student with a perfect catalogue has nothing to say. What the marks actually reward is reasoning about electron density: where a molecule is electron-poor, why a nucleophile is attracted there, what happens to the intermediate, why one pathway dominates. Taught that way, organic chemistry becomes the most predictable topic in the course rather than the least.

Energetics fails for the opposite reason. The concepts are usually understood and the execution is unreliable. Sign conventions are the main culprit — an exothermic value entered as positive, a cycle traversed in the wrong direction, an entropy change whose sign contradicts the physical description the student just wrote. The arithmetic is not hard; the bookkeeping is, and it produces answers that are internally consistent and entirely wrong.

Both are fixable quickly once correctly identified, which is the argument for diagnosing rather than covering. The table below sets out each wall, the real cause, and the work that moves it. The useful column is the last one, because in both cases the remedy is not more content.

THE TWO IB CHEMISTRY WALLS, DIAGNOSED
TopicWhat students usually doWhy marks are lostThe work that moves it

02

What a chemistry paper rewards that revision notes do not

  • Command terms decide the shape of the answer, and the shape decides the mark
  • Name the specific force or factor, then complete the reasoning — do not gesture
  • Method marks are forfeited by mental arithmetic; every step goes on paper
  • Practise against the mark scheme rather than against a sense of having understood

Chemistry punishes imprecision harder than any other Diploma science, and the punishment is invisible in revision. A student reading their notes understands the content. The same student writing an answer loses marks because the sentence was nearly right, and nearly right scores nothing in a subject where the mark scheme specifies the explanation.

Command terms are the first mechanism. State wants an answer. Outline wants a brief account. Explain wants a cause. Deduce wants a conclusion drawn from given information. Discuss wants balance. Evaluate wants a supported judgement. A student who understands periodicity and answers explain with a statement of the trend has written something true and scored nothing, because the question asked why and the answer said what.

The second is the specificity of explanation. Asked why one compound has a higher boiling point, an answer naming intermolecular forces in general gets partial credit at best; an answer naming the specific force, comparing its strength and connecting that to the energy needed to separate molecules gets the marks. The difference is not knowledge. It is the habit of finishing the reasoning rather than gesturing at it.

The third is unshown working in quantitative questions. Marks are available for method, and a student who computes several steps mentally and writes one line forfeits credit they genuinely earned. This is a behaviour change rather than learning, takes a few weeks of marked practice with a rule that every step goes on paper, and is probably the cheapest grade movement available in the subject.

03

The Chemistry Internal Assessment is decided before the data exists

A fifth of the chemistry grade comes from an individual investigation, and by the time most students ask for help the marks that mattered are already set — not in the write-up, but in the fortnight when the research question was chosen and the method planned.

The design faults recur. A research question whose independent variable cannot actually be varied systematically with school apparatus. A range so narrow that any trend sits inside the uncertainty. Too few repeats to say anything honest about reliability. A controlled variable that was not controlled, discovered at the evaluation stage when the only remaining option is to admit it. A titration-based investigation with an uncertainty larger than the effect being measured. None of these can be rescued by a better conclusion.

So the valuable intervention is early and it is permitted in full. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards and what it is worth, test whether a proposed question can be investigated with the equipment available, check that the planned range and number of repeats will generate analysable data, point out that a chosen method's uncertainty will swamp the result, and give criterion-level feedback on a draft the student has written.

What a tutor may not do is produce the work: no writing any section, no supplying data or calculations, no model investigation to adapt, no editing a draft to a finish. The student signs an authorship declaration and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice. This search result contains operators selling completed Internal Assessments — one advertises them at AED 3,750 — which risks the entire Diploma rather than one component.

Chemistry Higher Level and the medicine route

A large share of the DAMAC Hills 2 chemistry enquiries we take are really about medicine, dentistry or pharmacy, and the honest framing matters because the subject is usually a hard requirement rather than a preference.

What we can say plainly: many medical, dental and pharmacy programmes specify chemistry, frequently at Higher Level, and often alongside a second science. What we will not do is publish a points threshold or an entry requirement for any named university, because those are set by the institution, change between cycles, and differ between UAE, UK, European and North American systems. Check the actual published requirement of the actual programmes your child is considering, including UAE institutions, and check it for the entry year rather than the current one.

Nor will we suggest that tutoring is required for any admissions outcome. That would be a false-urgency claim about a competitive process whose variables — interview performance, admissions testing, personal statement, school reference, the strength of a particular year's applicant pool — are mostly outside a chemistry tutor's reach. What chemistry support can do is narrower and real: make sure the HL chemistry grade is not the thing that removes the option.

For planning, the useful consequence is timing. A student aiming at a chemistry-requiring degree needs HL chemistry secure by the end of Year 12, not improving through Year 13, because applications and predicted grades are made before the final result exists. That pushes the sensible start date for support to early Year 12, which is also when it is cheapest and most effective.

05

Practical and data skills when the tutoring is online

  • Bench technique happens at school and no tutor replaces it
  • Prediction, anomaly handling and uncertainty are where the marks concentrate
  • Written experimental questions test evaluating a method, not performing one
  • Ask the school which practical components are assessed and how

This is the reasonable objection to online chemistry tuition, and it deserves an answer rather than a reassurance. Nobody on a screen can stand beside a burette and correct a student's technique at the meniscus.

What is true is that bench technique is a small share of the assessed marks and the part of it that is assessed happens at school. Titration precision, dilution, gravimetric handling — these are taught and practised in the laboratory, and no tutor, in person or online, substitutes for that. A provider claiming otherwise is overselling.

What one-to-one work does add is the reasoning around the bench, which is where most of the available marks live. Predicting what an experiment should produce before it is run. Deciding what to do with an anomalous result rather than discarding it silently. Calculating percentage uncertainty from the apparatus and judging whether the effect is larger than it. Writing up so that the processing and evaluation criteria are actually addressed. Every one of those is a paper-and-screen skill and improves faster one-to-one than in a class.

The same applies to the written papers, where experimental questions ask students to evaluate a method rather than perform one: identify the flaw, name the controlled variable that was missed, say whether the data supports the stated conclusion. That is examinable reasoning, and it is what we teach. Ask your child's school which practical components are assessed and how, and we will match a tutor who has prepared students for those specific components.

06

Fitting chemistry into a DAMAC Hills 2 week

  • Mechanism work needs an alert hour; recall revision tolerates a tired one
  • Year 12: usually 4:45pm straight off the Motor City or Sports City run
  • Year 13: usually 8pm for ninety minutes, for full paper sections with marking
  • Weekend mornings suit investigation work better than scattered weekday hours

Chemistry needs a particular kind of hour. Mechanism work especially requires a student to hold several things in mind at once — structure, charge, what moved where — and a tired student cannot do it. Booking whichever slot is available is a worse decision here than in a recall-heavy subject.

The timetable out here is tight. A half three finish in Motor City or Dubai Sports City means a 4:45pm arrival home once the afternoon traffic on Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is counted; from an inner-city IB school it is nearer five. Because nobody is driving to you, a session can begin at 4:45pm, which for a Year 12 student is often the best hour available. For Year 13 the better choice is usually 8pm for ninety minutes, when a full past-paper section plus marking fits without rushing.

Weekend mornings are the underused option, and for chemistry they are particularly effective during an Internal Assessment term: two hours of uninterrupted work on method design or data processing is worth more than three scattered weekday half-hours. It also competes with nothing else in the week.

Ramadan is planned rather than discovered. School days shorten and evenings reorganise around Iftar, so DAMAC Hills 2 families typically move to a late-morning, early-afternoon or post-Iftar slot, or pause part of the month and resume with a heavier block. Prayer times are built into the slot from the start. What we work to avoid is the drift of cancel, reschedule, cancel — in chemistry that breaks the thread quickly, because mechanism work builds directly on the previous session.

What chemistry tutoring costs in this market

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai research giving the specialist band as AED 200-450 plus. Budget online advertises from AED 33-65, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. In-home visits are AED 180-500 including travel. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

Chemistry at Higher Level is one of the subjects where the budget band fails most visibly. A capable graduate can teach periodic trends and balance equations. Teaching organic mechanism reasoning, and teaching it so a student can handle a molecule they have never seen, is a different competence, and so is knowing what the investigation's processing criterion actually rewards. A term at AED 50 an hour with somebody who has never supervised a chemistry investigation produces pleasant sessions and no movement.

Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 for one weekly hour of budget tutoring, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits.

Each figure belongs to the provider named beside it. None is an IB Gram price — we publish no rate card on these pages, because the honest number depends on level, the specific gap and the weeks remaining. Take the free trial lesson and get a quote after the diagnostic.

What we will not claim about a chemistry result

  • No grade, points, improvement or admissions guarantees
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No regulator claims, no UAE office, no unevidenced examiner descriptions
  • An honest diagnostic verdict instead, including when the time is too short

No grade guarantee. Not a 7, not a points improvement, not a particular paper score, and specifically not an admissions outcome. The variables — prior quantitative fluency, weeks remaining, whether the investigation was designed well, whether the student has ever been taught to finish an explanation — are not all under a tutor's control.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which means none at all. No average chemistry score achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, sometimes in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never say how any of them was produced.

No regulator or awarding-body claim, and no examiner descriptions. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not describe tutors as IB examiners because current examiner status is not something we can evidence. Examiner status confers no access to marking, boundaries or paper content whatever is implied. We host no IB past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables; they belong to the IB and we link the official source.

What we will give you is a diagnostic verdict. After watching your child work real paper questions, a chemistry specialist will say whether the gap is the quantitative layer, mechanism reasoning, explanation technique or the investigation, roughly how long each takes to move, and whether the available time is enough. Occasionally the answer is that it is not, and that concentrating on two of those rather than four is the better plan.

Where we tutor

DAMAC Hills 2 and the Diploma science school run

The schools offering Diploma chemistry are rarely the nearest ones to this corridor, and that drive is what decides when a session can start. Here is the belt around DAMAC Hills 2.

DAMAC Hills 2

Off the Al Qudra corridor, formerly Akoya Oxygen. Diploma students travel out, typically to a school finishing at half three, which means a 4:45pm arrival home once afternoon traffic is counted.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community and serves the younger end. Diploma chemistry students from here travel in the same direction as their DAMAC Hills 2 neighbours and share the same evening.

Dubai Sports City

Fifteen to twenty minutes towards town, with GEMS United and Bradenton Preparatory Academy. The nearest cluster where Diploma-level science teaching is genuinely available.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole and a settled British-curriculum population, and a very common destination from DAMAC Hills 2. This cluster sets the realistic earliest session time for the community.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established neighbour on the Emirates Road side, sharing the school pool. Collection often runs twenty minutes earlier, which makes a 4:30pm chemistry slot workable.

Mudon

Al Qudra side, mostly younger families. Science enquiries here are usually MYP criterion work or Year 11 bridging rather than Diploma rescue — the cheaper point to intervene.

Town Square

Further along the corridor with commuting parents, so chemistry sessions land after six or at weekends. Local HL chemistry supply is as thin as in DAMAC Hills 2.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and what the class is on now

Higher or Standard Level, which school, and the current topic. Also whether a chemistry-requiring degree is in view, because that changes the timeline: HL chemistry needs to be secure by the end of Year 12 when predicted grades are made, not improving through Year 13.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic that tests moles first

Whatever the student names as the problem, a specialist starts with multi-step quantitative questions, because a weakness in moles and concentration presents as a weakness in every topic. Then mechanism reasoning on a molecule they have not seen, and one explanation question against the mark scheme.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the chemistry specialist

The tutor who would continue teaches a full session, no card required and no obligation. Chemistry explanation style matters: a tutor who is correct and moves too fast through a mechanism produces a term of agreeable sessions and no movement. One hour shows you what no description can.

  4. 04

Set the slot where mechanisms can be followed

Around the DAMAC Hills 2 school run and prayer times — usually 4:45pm for Year 12, 8pm and ninety minutes for Year 13, or a weekend morning block during an investigation term. We will say when a proposed slot is too late to be useful rather than take it.

  5. 05

Review by topic and command term

Every few weeks the tutor reports against something checkable: whether multi-step calculations are now reliable, whether explanations finish rather than gesture, which criterion the investigation draft is weak on. If nothing has moved, that is where the plan or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Mechanisms taught as reasoning, not as a catalogue

Organic chemistry fails when it is revised as reagent-product pairs, because an unfamiliar molecule leaves the student with nothing to say. Taught from electron density and partial charge it becomes the most predictable topic in the course.

Moles diagnosed before anything else

A weakness in the quantitative layer presents as a weakness in every topic, so a diagnostic that starts with the named topic usually starts in the wrong place. We test multi-step calculation first, whatever the student says the problem is.

The investigation coached at design, not at draft

Twenty per cent of the grade, and most of it decided in the planning fortnight. We check the variable is measurable, the range will show an effect and the apparatus uncertainty will not swamp it — while there is still time for the answer to change anything.

Honest about what online cannot do

Bench technique happens at school and no tutor replaces it. What one-to-one work adds is prediction, anomaly handling, uncertainty treatment and writing up to the criteria, which is where most of the assessed marks actually sit.

No admissions claims for the medicine route

Many medical and dental programmes specify chemistry at Higher Level, and the requirement belongs to the institution and the entry year. We will not publish a threshold or suggest tutoring is required for an admissions outcome.

AED figures attributed, and no guarantees

Every rate names the provider that published it and the month it was read, and none is an IB Gram price. No promised grade, no improvement percentage, no claimed regulator approval, no hosted past papers and no UAE home visits.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills 2: your questions answered

Why has my child's chemistry grade dropped since starting the Diploma?+

Because the course changes character. IGCSE and MYP chemistry reward knowing things — formulae, reagents, trends, definitions. Diploma chemistry rewards explaining why, especially why a reaction proceeds as it does. A student who revises by memorising runs out of road in the organic topic and often cannot say what went wrong, because their method worked for two years. The fix is not covering the syllabus again; it is being taught to reason from electron density and to finish an explanation rather than gesture at it.

Why does organic chemistry feel impossible to my child?+

Almost always because it has been learned as a catalogue: this reagent plus that substrate gives this product, memorise the list. That survives until a question presents an unfamiliar molecule or asks for the mechanism, at which point a perfect catalogue provides nothing. The marks reward reasoning about where a molecule is electron-poor, why a nucleophile is attracted there, what the intermediate is and why one pathway dominates. Taught that way, organic chemistry becomes the most predictable topic in the course rather than the hardest.

What is the quickest chemistry improvement available before mocks?+

Three things, in order. First, sign conventions in energetics written down as a fixed rule and then drilled, because the chemistry is usually understood and the bookkeeping is what fails. Second, a rule that every step of a calculation goes on paper, since method marks are being forfeited by mental arithmetic. Third, command-term discipline: explain wants a cause, deduce wants a conclusion from given data, and a knowledgeable student answering the wrong command term scores nothing. All three are weeks rather than months.

How much is the chemistry Internal Assessment worth and when should we get help?+

Twenty per cent of the grade at both levels, and the help is worth most in the fortnight when the research question and method are chosen. The recurring faults are an independent variable that cannot be varied with school apparatus, a range too narrow for a trend to exceed the uncertainty, too few repeats to say anything about reliability, and measurement apparatus whose uncertainty swamps the effect. None of those is rescuable by a better conclusion, which is why week-one criterion reading beats week-ten draft reading.

Can a tutor help with the chemistry investigation without crossing the line?+

Yes, and the permitted ground is wide. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards and its mark allocation, test whether a proposed question is feasible with available equipment, check the planned range and repeats will produce analysable data, point out that an apparatus uncertainty will dominate the result, and give criterion-level feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any section, supply data or calculations, provide a model to adapt, or edit to a finish. The student signs an authorship declaration.

Is Chemistry at Higher Level required for a medicine application?+

Many medical, dental and pharmacy programmes specify chemistry, frequently at Higher Level and often alongside a second science, but the requirement belongs to the institution and the entry year rather than to a general rule. Check the actual published requirement of the actual programmes being considered, including UAE institutions, for the year of entry. We will not publish a threshold or imply tutoring is required for any admissions outcome. What support can do is narrower: make sure the chemistry grade is not what removes the option.

How are chemistry practicals handled if lessons are online?+

Bench technique — titration precision, dilution, gravimetric handling — is taught and assessed at school, and no tutor, in person or online, substitutes for it. What one-to-one work adds is the reasoning around the bench, which is where most of the available marks live: predicting what an experiment should produce, deciding what to do with an anomaly, calculating percentage uncertainty from the apparatus, and writing up so the processing and evaluation criteria are actually addressed. Written experimental questions also test evaluating a method rather than performing one.

Is moles really the problem when my child says organic is?+

Frequently, and it is why our diagnostic starts there regardless of what was named. Stoichiometry, concentration, limiting reagent and percentage yield sit underneath every topic in the course, so a weakness in multi-step conversion presents as a weakness in everything. Students arrive from IGCSE able to balance an equation and unable to carry a calculation through unit conversions under time pressure. A short quantitative block fixes it, and every subsequent session in every other topic lands better afterwards.

Is there an HL chemistry specialist near DAMAC Hills 2?+

Usually not. The IB is roughly 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils spread across the whole emirate, only the final two years sit the Diploma, and Chemistry at Higher Level is a narrow specialism inside that. The pool of people who have taught it to final grade is small citywide, and most are serving school staff whose permit code of conduct bars tutoring students enrolled at their own school. Online matching removes distance from a problem where distance was never the constraint that mattered.

Will a chemistry tutor come to our villa in DAMAC Hills 2?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram delivers chemistry tuition to DAMAC Hills 2 one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Other Dubai providers do visit, at published rates of AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from the Al Qudra corridor a real share of that is driving. For Diploma chemistry the binding constraint is whether the tutor can teach mechanism reasoning and investigation design, which has nothing to do with proximity.

What do DAMAC Hills 2 families pay for IB chemistry support?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026: qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 an hour with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate giving AED 200-450 plus, budget online from AED 33-65 with Tutopiya and EdFlik, in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel, and BartyED at AED 650 premium. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist exam-year work. Those belong to the providers named; we quote after the diagnostic.

Can a cheap tutor cover Higher Level chemistry?+

Rarely, and HL chemistry shows the limits of the budget band clearly. At AED 33-65 an hour a capable graduate can teach periodic trends and balance equations competently. What they generally cannot do is teach organic mechanism reasoning so a student can handle a molecule they have never seen, or tell you what the investigation's processing criterion actually rewards. A term with somebody who has never supervised a chemistry investigation produces agreeable sessions and no movement, and the low hourly rate is what stops anyone examining it.

When should chemistry support start for a Year 12 student here?+

Early Year 12, for two reasons. First, the quantitative layer and mechanism reasoning both need time, and everything taught afterwards sits on them, so securing them early makes the rest of the course cheaper. Second, if a chemistry-requiring degree is in view, the grade needs to be secure by the end of Year 12 because predicted grades are made before the final result exists. By March of Year 13 the only remaining lever is paper technique, which is worth real marks but is the smallest of the three.

Should chemistry and biology be taken with the same tutor?+

Usually not at Higher Level, and this is one pairing where we would rather match two specialists. The content depth pulls apart at HL, and the two subjects reward different habits: biology rewards recall structured by command term, chemistry rewards explanation built from mechanism. A tutor strong in one often imports the wrong habit into the other, which is a subtle but real cost. Chemistry and physics share the quantitative layer and pair more naturally where one tutor genuinely teaches both.

When do IB chemistry exams fall for DAMAC Hills 2 students?+

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no specific IB date, and the reason is worth saying: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org, and we will not put an unverified date in front of a family who will plan around it. Get exact dates from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. For IGCSE siblings, Cambridge runs June and November series — February/March is India-only — and Pearson runs May/June and November.

Send a marked paper and the current topic

An IB chemistry tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 earns their fee by finding the right gap, and the gap is rarely where the student points. Send us the level, the school, what the class is working on and what time your child gets home, and a chemistry specialist will test the quantitative layer first, then mechanism reasoning on an unfamiliar molecule, then one explanation question against the mark scheme. You will get an honest verdict and a free trial lesson with that specialist. Everything is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
