IGCSE Science Tutor in DAMAC Hills 2

Looking for an IGCSE science tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 usually means asking whether anybody nearby knows the syllabus your child is actually entered for. It is a fair worry, because science is not one entry: triple award, double award and coordinated sciences are different qualifications with different papers. IB Gram matches by entry and syllabus code and teaches one-to-one over live video.

  • Matched to the entry: triple, double or coordinated, Cambridge or Pearson
  • Three syllabus codes checked before anybody is proposed
  • One-to-one live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in DAMAC Hills 2

Does anybody near DAMAC Hills 2 know your child's science entry?

The honest answer is that general science tutors are reasonably available out here and entry-specific ones are not, and that distinction is the whole point. Parents searching for an IGCSE science tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 are usually not worried about finding somebody who can explain photosynthesis. They are worried about hiring somebody who will teach broadly correct science while missing that the school entered coordinated sciences rather than three separate subjects, and that the paper looks nothing like what is being practised.

Because science is three or four different purchases depending on the entry. A triple-award student sits Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate qualifications and receives three grades — Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. A coordinated-sciences student covers all three disciplines in a single qualification and receives one or two grades, with reduced content in each. A double-award student sits a combined qualification worth two grades. The topics overlap. The depth, the paper structure and the grade outcome do not.

Add the board question on top. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers for the same subject, tier differently, and assess practical work by different routes. Dubai schools are not obliged to use one board across the curriculum and plenty do not, so a household can have maths on Pearson and sciences on Cambridge without anybody mentioning it. One email to the school office returns all of it: the entry route, the board, and the syllabus code per subject.

The geography is the other half of the problem. DAMAC Hills 2 sits out along the Al Qudra corridor, in a belt of newer villa communities where the residential build-out ran well ahead of the professional tutoring supply. Dubai's tutors cluster near the older school districts. A tutor prepared to drive out here on a weekday evening is a smaller group than a tutor prepared to work in Al Barsha, and once you require the correct entry, board and subject, that group can empty.

IB Gram's response is not to find somebody closer. Lessons for DAMAC Hills 2 families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. The pool is therefore defined by which specification a tutor teaches, which is the variable the grade depends on, rather than by who is willing to drive down Al Qudra Road at six.

KHDA reported 387,441 pupils across Dubai's 227 private schools in 2024-25, with UK-curriculum schools at 37% of enrolment, the largest single bloc. That is an enormous IGCSE science cohort, which explains why the market is full of general science tutors advertising to it, and why so few of them will tell you which entry and code they teach. Ask. A specialist answers in one sentence.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Science support is a different job at each stage, and the stage you are at should decide what you buy. These are the stages we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 families.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9 science, before the entry is set

The year the science entry begins to be decided, usually on class performance and set placement. Nothing is examined externally, so nothing feels urgent, which is exactly why it is the cheapest place to influence the outcome. Explaining rather than stating, and handling simple calculations with units, are the two habits that matter.

DAMAC Hills 2 sees many mid-stage arrivals, and a child joining in Year 9 from CBSE or an American school meets a different topic order partway through. A diagnostic here, before the entry is fixed, is the single best-value science purchase in the sequence and almost nobody makes it.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, the content year

Most of the science syllabus is delivered here across whichever entry was chosen, and the entry is confirmed. Triple-award students are carrying three subjects' worth of content simultaneously, which is the real difficulty rather than any individual topic being hard.

The scheduling question starts here for triple-award families: three sciences cannot each have a weekly tutor without consuming the entire week. We would rather diagnose which one subject is actually weak and work there than sell three sessions, and that conversation belongs in Year 10 rather than Year 11.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, mocks and the series

The work shifts from learning content to producing marks: command-term discipline, showing method in calculations, and the practical-paper reasoning that schools reach last. Grades arrive as 9-1 or A*-G depending on subject and board, and both appear on UAE reports.

By February of Year 11 a triple-award student with three weak sciences cannot realistically fix all three, and we will say so. Concentrating on the one with the best movement-per-hour, and entering November for another if needed, is a better plan than diluting across three.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the science grades open

Most UAE British-curriculum schools split after Year 11 into A Levels or the IB Diploma. A Level sciences and IB Higher Level sciences generally expect separate-science grades at a good standard, and coordinated sciences can limit which post-16 options are straightforwardly available.

This is the consequence of the entry decision that families most often learn late. If a chemistry-requiring degree is anywhere in view, the triple-versus-coordinated question in Year 9 matters more than any individual grade, and it is worth resolving deliberately rather than by default.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE science subjects, entries and components DAMAC Hills 2 students need help with, with the codes to check and the specific place marks go.

Biology, separate science

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Recall volume plus command-term precision. Describe, explain and suggest want different answers, and a knowledgeable student writing the wrong one scores low. Experimental design and data-interpretation questions reward structured weekly practice more than re-reading notes.

Chemistry, separate science

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles and stoichiometry are the wall. Students who can balance an equation still lose marks converting between mass, moles and volume against a clock. Qualitative analysis and the required ion tests are heavily examined and quick to secure once named.

Physics, separate science

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Precise definitions, units carried through every step, and rearranging a formula under pressure. Electricity, waves and energy transfer recur as weak topics. Graph work and reading instruments to sensible precision are examined directly.

Coordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0654 double award

All three disciplines in one qualification with reduced content in each, awarding two grades. A tutor who teaches separate-science depth to a coordinated student wastes time on content that will not be examined, which is a specific and common mismatch.

Combined Science

Cambridge 0653 single award

A single grade covering all three disciplines at further reduced depth. Suited to students carrying a broad subject load, and the entry most often misidentified by tutors who assume triple award because the school teaches three teachers' worth of lessons.

The Alternative to Practical paper

Cambridge separate and coordinated sciences

A written paper assessing experimental understanding: reading instruments, spotting flawed method, identifying control variables, tabulating and plotting results. Taught last in most schools and often where the most marks are lost, which makes it unusually good value to target.

Practical skills and data handling

Both boards, all entries

Precision, anomalous results, simple uncertainty reasoning and drawing conclusions supported by the data. These are paper skills as much as bench skills, and they transfer across all three sciences at once, which makes them efficient to teach.

Scientific calculation

Both boards, all entries

Rearrangement, units, standard form and percentage calculations. A shared weakness across all three sciences, so fixing it once improves three grades. Students usually name a topic; the diagnostic usually finds this.

Command terms in science

Both boards, all entries

State, describe, explain, suggest, compare and evaluate each want a different structure. This is the cheapest available grade movement in science and it is almost never taught explicitly, because schools are busy covering content.

Separate-science bridging to A Level or IB

Year 11 into Year 12

A short block on the quantitative and explanatory habits that A Level and IB sciences assume and IGCSE does not fully build. Taken in the summer it is inexpensive; taken in November of Year 12 it becomes a rescue.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways DAMAC Hills 2 families use IGCSE science tutoring, all online over live video. For a three-science household the choice matters more than usual, because the week has limits.

One science, weekly

The commonest and usually the right arrangement, even for a triple-award student. The diagnostic identifies which of the three has the most movement available per hour, and that subject gets a fixed weekly slot while the others are left to school and independent revision.

  • Sixty minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Matched to entry, board and syllabus code
  • Chosen by diagnostic, not by which subject the student dislikes most
  • Half-term reviews against specification objectives

Shared-skills block across all three

A short run on what all three sciences examine identically: scientific calculation and rearrangement, command-term discipline, data handling and the Alternative to Practical reasoning. One block improves three grades at once, which makes it the best value available to a triple-award family.

  • Six to ten sessions with a written topic list as the scope
  • Explicit coverage of the Alternative to Practical paper where it applies
  • Benefits biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously
  • Best taken in Year 10 or early Year 11

Year 11 exam-term focus

From after the mocks to the series, working correct-board and correct-entry past papers under timed conditions with the error pattern deciding the next session. Quoted only after a diagnostic, and we will say when three sciences cannot all be moved in the time left.

  • Diagnostic on the right entry's papers before any plan
  • Timed practice marked to the published mark scheme
  • Honest triage across the three sciences
  • Also the right shape for a November resit in one subject

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DAMAC Hills 2

01

Triple, double or coordinated? The entry decides what you are buying

This is the first question and most parents cannot answer it, partly because schools describe it loosely and partly because the timetable looks similar whichever route is taken. A student may have three science teachers and three sets of lessons and still be entered for a single coordinated qualification.

The three routes diverge in content depth and in grade outcome. Separate sciences, the triple-award route, means Biology, Chemistry and Physics as independent qualifications with three grades — Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 — each covering its full syllabus. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 covers all three disciplines in one double-award qualification with reduced content in each, awarding two grades. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 is a single-award version at further reduced depth, giving one grade.

The mismatch this creates is concrete and expensive. A tutor who assumes triple award and teaches separate-science depth to a coordinated student spends sessions on content that will not be examined. A tutor who assumes coordinated and teaches reduced depth to a triple-award student leaves the top of each syllabus uncovered. Both scenarios look fine week to week and neither is visible until a paper arrives.

The entry also has a consequence beyond Year 11 that families frequently discover too late. A Level sciences and IB Higher Level sciences generally expect separate-science grades at a good standard, and the coordinated route can narrow which post-16 options are straightforwardly available. If a chemistry-requiring or physics-requiring degree is anywhere in view, the entry decision in Year 9 or Year 10 matters more than any single grade.

02

Three syllabus codes, three different papers

Once the entry is established, the board and code question follows, and it is the one that most often goes unasked. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers for the same subject. Content overlaps heavily. Paper structure, formula provision, practical assessment route and the command-term vocabulary each board favours do not.

What this means practically is that past papers are not interchangeable. A term of Cambridge 0625 physics practice for a student entered on Pearson 4PH1 teaches real and correct physics while training the wrong instincts about what a question is asking for and how much to write. It is invisible until the real paper arrives, which is why it is one of the more expensive mistakes in this market and one of the easiest to prevent.

Dubai schools also mix boards across departments. A household can have maths on Pearson and sciences on Cambridge, or biology on one board and physics on another where departments made independent decisions. The school office will confirm all of it in one email, per subject. Bring those codes to any tutoring conversation and refuse to hire anyone who cannot say immediately which specification they teach.

One further difference worth knowing: Pearson offers modular assessment in some subjects, which changes when a result can be banked and therefore changes the whole planning picture compared with a single terminal series. If your child is on a modular route, that is a fact worth building a plan around rather than discovering mid-year.

03

The Alternative to Practical paper, and why it is undervalued

  • A written paper, so it responds directly to one-to-one screen work
  • Tests reading instruments, spotting flawed method, tables, graphs, conclusions
  • The same reasoning earns marks in all three sciences at once
  • Taught last in most schools, which is why the marks are sitting there

For many Cambridge science entries the assessed practical route is a written Alternative to Practical paper rather than laboratory assessment, and it is reliably where students lose the most marks relative to effort spent. Three things conspire: it is taught last, it is a different skill from content revision, and parents have usually never heard of it.

What it actually tests is experimental understanding on paper. Reading a measuring instrument to a sensible precision. Spotting that a described method cannot answer the question it was set. Identifying which variable needed controlling and was not. Constructing a results table with correct headings and units. Plotting points, drawing a line of best fit, reading a value from the graph and saying what it means. Judging whether a conclusion is supported by the data presented.

Every one of those is a paper-and-screen skill, which has two useful consequences. First, it responds very well to one-to-one online work, because the whole task is a document being marked and discussed. Second, it transfers across all three sciences simultaneously — the same reasoning earns marks in biology, chemistry and physics — which makes it the single most efficient thing a triple-award family can buy.

Where a school runs assessed laboratory work instead, bench technique happens at school and no tutor substitutes for it. What one-to-one work adds there is the surrounding reasoning: predicting the expected result, handling an anomaly, simple uncertainty treatment, and writing up to the expected standard. Ask the school which route each science is entered for, because the answer changes what is worth preparing.

04

Three sciences, one week: how to divide the tutoring

This is the practical problem a triple-award family in DAMAC Hills 2 actually faces, and the market's answer — three tutors, three sessions — is almost always the wrong one. Three weekly sessions plus a long school run plus the homework three sciences generate leaves a student with no independent study time, and independent practice is where science grades are made.

The better approach has two parts. First, buy the shared skills once. Scientific calculation and rearrangement, command-term discipline, data handling and the Alternative to Practical reasoning are examined identically across biology, chemistry and physics. A six-to-ten session block on those improves three grades, and it is the cheapest intervention available to a three-science household.

Second, after the diagnostic, pick one subject for weekly work — the one with the most movement available per hour, which is often not the subject the student complains about most. Students usually name the subject they dislike; the diagnostic frequently finds that the recoverable marks sit elsewhere, in the subject where the content is nearly there and the technique is not.

What we will not do is sell three weekly sessions to a family who would be better served by one plus a shared-skills block. That is a smaller sale and it is the honest recommendation in most three-science cases. The table below lays out how a week divides under each approach so the comparison is concrete rather than rhetorical. Read the fourth column first, because the cost to the student of a full week is the part no price list shows.

What IGCSE science help costs around DAMAC Hills 2

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE, IB and A Level tutors run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate putting the band at AED 200-450 plus. In-home visits are AED 180-500 including travel. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

For a three-science household the monthly arithmetic is the number that matters. Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 a month for one weekly hour of budget tutoring, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Multiply any of those by three and the reason we argue against three weekly tutors becomes financial as well as educational. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits.

The entry question has a cost dimension too. Paying specialist rates for separate-science depth when the child is entered for coordinated sciences is paying for content that will not be examined, and it is invisible on an invoice. So is paying for the wrong board's past papers. Both are prevented by one email before the first session rather than discovered after the third month.

Every figure belongs to the provider named beside it. None is an IB Gram price — we publish no rate card on these pages, because the honest number depends on entry, board, how many sciences are in play and the weeks remaining. Take the free trial lesson and get a quote after the diagnostic.

The June series, the November route, and the series UAE candidates do not sit

One correction first, because it circulates among UAE parents constantly and acting on it costs a term. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. If anybody has told you a March resit is available for your child, they are describing another country's provision.

Cambridge runs International GCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school which zone it sits in rather than downloading a timetable from a search result.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. For how a November route times out in practice: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November results reach students in January — the November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, so work from the live official PDF rather than any date restated on a tutoring site.

For a three-science family the November route is genuinely useful rather than a consolation. A student who did well in two sciences and poorly in one can re-enter that single subject, work a narrow fixed-scope block over the summer and first term, and have a January result in time to update post-16 applications. That is a better plan than trying to lift three grades at once in the spring of Year 11.

07

Is the science tutor you hire permitted to teach in the UAE?

Private tuition in the UAE is a permitted activity, and most parents have never been told. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Because it costs nothing and takes two working days, there is no legitimate reason for a tutor not to hold one. Eligibility is wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, and Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify amounts, so disregard any figure circulating informally.

The permit's code of conduct bars a tutor from serving students affiliated with their own school, and press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes the same prohibition for Abu Dhabi school staff. A provider offering you your child's own science teacher privately is telling you something about itself.

An individual needs the MoHRE permit; an organisation running tutoring from premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, claims none, and has no UAE office or centre.

What we will not tell you about science grades

  • No grade, tier or improvement guarantees in any science
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none published
  • No past papers or mark schemes hosted; official sources linked instead
  • No UAE home visits; honest triage across the three sciences instead

No guarantee of a grade, a tier change or an improvement in any of the three sciences. The variables are not under a tutor's control, and in a market where several ranking pages do offer guarantees, declining is information rather than modesty.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which in practice means no statistics at all. No average science grades achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction figure, no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish such numbers routinely, sometimes in two conflicting versions on the same page, and almost never state how any of them was produced.

No awarding-body material hosted. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson; we cite and link them rather than supplying them as downloads. No description of tutors as examiners either, because current examiner status is not something we can evidence, and examiner status gives nobody access to marking or boundaries whatever is implied.

And no home visits anywhere in the UAE at any price, because there is no UAE visiting service to buy. What we will do instead is diagnose which of the three sciences has the most movement available, recommend the shared-skills block where it is the better value, and tell you when three grades cannot all be lifted in the time remaining. That verdict is sometimes unwelcome and it is always more useful than a plan built to be agreeable.

One more omission. We publish no specific exam dates beyond naming the series, because awarding bodies revise timetables and a date restated on a tutoring page is the version a family should trust least. Cambridge and Pearson both publish live official timetables, your school knows its Cambridge administrative zone, and those are the sources worth acting on.

Where we tutor

DAMAC Hills 2 and the communities along the corridor

Every community on this stretch has the same structure — housing here, schools a drive away — and the same shortage of entry-specific science tutors. These are the neighbours.

DAMAC Hills 2

Off the Al Qudra corridor, formerly Akoya Oxygen. Secondary students travel out daily, so a half three finish typically means a 4:30pm arrival home and no earlier start for any session.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community, giving families there a short run and the option of a 4pm session that DAMAC Hills 2 households generally do not have.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, with the shortest run in the belt for those enrolled. Budgets here weigh the in-home travel premium carefully against an online rate.

Mudon

Al Qudra side, largely Years 7 to 9. Science enquiries here are often about the triple-versus-coordinated decision rather than about a weak grade, which is the right time to ask.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established community on the Emirates Road side, sharing the school pool. Collection runs earlier, which widens the evening for a three-science household.

Serena

A quieter Dubailand community with the same geography and the same lack of any local pool of entry-specific science tutors at Year 11 level.

Town Square

Further along the corridor, dense with British-curriculum families and commuting parents, so science sessions land after six or on weekend mornings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the entry route, the board and the three codes

Triple award, double award or coordinated; Cambridge or Pearson; and the code per subject — 0610, 0620, 0625 or 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1, or 0654 or 0653. One email to the school office returns all of it, and we will not propose a tutor without it.

  2. 02

Diagnostic across all three, not just the complaint

The student works questions from each science at the correct entry level while a specialist watches, including one data or practical-reasoning question. That is how we find which subject has the most movement per hour, which is often not the one the student named.

  3. 03

We recommend the smallest effective plan

Usually a shared-skills block on calculation, command terms and practical reasoning, then one science weekly. Occasionally two. Almost never three. That is a smaller sale than three tutors and it is the honest recommendation in most three-science cases.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson with the proposed specialist

One full lesson with the tutor who would continue, no card required and no obligation, at the time you intend to keep. If the explanation style does not suit your child, nothing has been spent and we propose somebody else.

  5. 05

Review against the specification, then stop

Progress reported against specification objectives rather than impressions, and a fixed-scope block ends when the scope is covered. No automatic rollover into open-ended tutoring across three subjects, which is the quietest way a science family overspends.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We ask which entry before anything else

Triple award, Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Combined Science 0653 are different qualifications with different content depth and different grade counts. Teaching separate-science depth to a coordinated student wastes sessions on content that will not be examined.

Matched by syllabus code, per subject

Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 set different papers, and Dubai schools mix boards across departments. We ask for the code of each science because a term of the wrong board's past papers trains the wrong instincts invisibly.

The Alternative to Practical treated as its own work

A written paper where students lose the most marks relative to effort, taught last in most schools, and the same reasoning earns marks in all three sciences. It is the most efficient single thing a triple-award family can buy.

We argue against three weekly tutors

Three sessions plus three sets of homework plus a long school run leaves no independent study time, which is where science grades are actually made. A shared-skills block plus one weekly subject is cheaper and works better.

Correct UAE exam-series information

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March series is India-only. Pearson International GCSE runs May/June and November, with November results reaching students in January — a real route for one weak science.

AED figures attributed, no guarantees made

Every rate names the provider that published it and the month it was read, including the three-subject multiples, and none is an IB Gram price. No promised grades, no claimed regulator approval, no hosted past papers, no UAE home visits.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills 2: your questions answered

How do I find out which science entry my child is on?+

Ask the school office directly, because the timetable does not tell you: a student can have three science teachers and still be entered for a single coordinated qualification. You want the entry route — separate sciences, Coordinated Sciences 0654 or Combined Science 0653 — plus the board and the syllabus code for each subject. It matters because the content depth and grade count differ, and because a tutor teaching separate-science depth to a coordinated student spends sessions on material that will not be examined.

What is the difference between triple award and coordinated sciences?+

Triple award means biology, chemistry and physics as three independent qualifications covering their full syllabuses, awarding three grades — Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 covers all three disciplines in one double-award qualification with reduced content in each, awarding two grades. Combined Science 0653 is a single-award version at further reduced depth. The topics overlap but the depth, paper structure and grade outcome do not, and the entry also affects which post-16 science routes are straightforwardly available.

Does coordinated science limit A Level or IB options later?+

It can, and this is the consequence families most often learn late. A Level sciences and IB Higher Level sciences generally expect separate-science grades at a good standard, so the coordinated route can narrow which post-16 options are straightforwardly open. Check the published entry requirements of the schools and programmes your child may move into, rather than relying on general advice. If a chemistry-requiring or physics-requiring degree is anywhere in view, the entry decision in Year 9 or Year 10 matters more than any single grade does.

Which science syllabus codes should I ask the school for?+

For Cambridge separate sciences: 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics. For Cambridge combined routes: 0654 Coordinated Sciences double award or 0653 Combined Science single award. For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE: 4BI1 Biology, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4PH1 Physics. Ask per subject rather than assuming one answer covers everything, because Dubai departments make independent board decisions and a household can genuinely have biology on one board and physics on another. Bring the codes to any tutoring conversation.

What is the Alternative to Practical paper and why does it matter?+

For many Cambridge science entries it is the assessed practical route: a written paper testing experimental understanding rather than bench work. It asks a student to read instruments to sensible precision, spot that a method cannot answer its question, identify an uncontrolled variable, build a results table with correct headings and units, plot and interpret a graph, and judge whether a conclusion is supported. It is taught last in most schools, it is where students lose most marks relative to effort, and the same reasoning earns marks in all three sciences.

Should we hire three tutors for triple-award science?+

Almost never. Three weekly sessions plus the homework three sciences generate plus a long DAMAC Hills 2 school run leaves no independent study time, and independent practice is where science grades are made. The better sequence is a shared-skills block first — scientific calculation and rearrangement, command terms, data handling, practical reasoning, all examined identically across the three — then one science weekly, chosen by diagnostic. At published mid-band rates, three separate weekly tutors runs to AED 1,800-3,600 a month.

Which of the three sciences should we tutor first?+

The one with the most movement available per hour, which is frequently not the one the student complains about. Students name the subject they dislike; a diagnostic often finds the recoverable marks sit elsewhere, in the science where the content is nearly there and only the technique is missing. That is why we test all three at the correct entry level before recommending anything, and why a plan built from a school report rather than from marked questions tends to start in the wrong place.

Is scientific calculation really the problem across all three sciences?+

Very often, and it is the most efficient thing to fix because one block improves three grades. Rearranging a formula with the unknown in the denominator, carrying units through a multi-step calculation, standard form at speed, and percentage work appear in chemistry stoichiometry, physics formulae and biology data questions alike. Students name a topic; the diagnostic finds this underneath it. Along with command-term discipline and practical-paper reasoning, it is the shared layer that a three-science household should buy once rather than three times.

How are science practicals handled if our lessons are online?+

It depends on the entry, so ask the school. Where the assessed route is a written Alternative to Practical paper, the whole task is a document to be marked and discussed, which is exactly what one-to-one screen work does well — and it is where the most marks are available. Where a school runs assessed laboratory work, bench technique happens at school and no tutor substitutes for it, in person or online. What one-to-one work adds there is prediction, anomaly handling, simple uncertainty treatment and writing up to the expected standard.

Is there a science tutor near DAMAC Hills 2 who knows our entry?+

General science tutors are reasonably available out here; entry-specific ones at Year 11 level are not. Dubai's tutor supply clusters around the older school corridors rather than the newer Dubailand communities, so the group willing to drive down Al Qudra Road on a school night is small, and smaller again once you require the correct entry route, the correct board and the correct subject. Online matching removes the proximity filter, which was never the variable the grade depended on.

Will a science tutor visit our home in DAMAC Hills 2?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram delivers IGCSE science tuition to DAMAC Hills 2 one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Other Dubai providers do visit, at published rates of AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from this corridor a real share of that is driving. For three sciences the in-home model is rarely attempted anyway, because the weekly cost and the travel time compound across subjects.

What should a three-science family in DAMAC Hills 2 expect to spend?+

At published Dubai rates read in October 2026, one weekly hour runs AED 240-600 a month at the budget band, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more at the specialist exam-year band. Multiply by three for three separate weekly tutors: AED 720-1,800, AED 1,800-3,600 and AED 3,000-6,000 or more respectively. Those are the providers' published figures, not ours. The reason we recommend a shared-skills block plus one weekly subject is that it is cheaper and, in most cases, more effective.

Can my child resit one science in the February or March series?+

Not in the UAE. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, and UAE candidates sit the June and November series. The belief circulates widely here and planning around it costs a term, so confirm with your school. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. For a three-science family the November route is genuinely useful: re-enter the single weak subject, work a narrow fixed-scope block over the summer and first term, and have a January result in time for post-16 applications.

Does our science tutor need a UAE permit?+

Yes. Any individual charging for private tuition in the UAE needs a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website or e-services. Eligibility covers school and sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Since it costs nothing and takes two days, there is no legitimate reason to lack one. Ask to see it and verify with MoHRE.

My child is weak in all three sciences with mocks done. What now?+

Triage, honestly. Three grades cannot all be lifted substantially in a final term, and a provider implying otherwise is selling. After a diagnostic we would normally propose the shared-skills layer — calculation, command terms, practical-paper reasoning — because it touches all three at once, plus focused weekly work on whichever single science shows the most movement per hour. For another subject, a November entry with a narrow block over the summer is frequently the better outcome than a diluted spring.
