IGCSE Maths Tutor in DAMAC Hills 2

Hiring an IGCSE maths tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 is a spending decision as much as an academic one, and most families here make it without a single published number to work from. This page gives you the AED bands the Dubai market actually charges, attributed to whoever published them, and then says plainly where the money gets wasted. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

What families in DAMAC Hills 2 pay for IGCSE maths, and what they get

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this search publish no price at all, and two of the ones that do quote US dollars, which is not a currency any family in DAMAC Hills 2 pays school fees in. One ranking agency's own frequently-asked-questions section asks how much tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. So the ordinary experience of shopping for an IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai is to be quoted a number on a phone call with nothing to compare it against.

Here is the published market instead. Budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE, IB and A Level tutors run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate research giving the specialist band as AED 200-450 plus. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650. In-home visiting is AED 180-500 an hour including travel. Every one of those figures was read from the publishing provider's own page in October 2026.

Monthly is the number a household actually feels. Bestimate estimates a weekly one-hour arrangement at AED 240-600 a month for budget tutoring, AED 600-1,200 for mid-tier and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four in-home two-hour visits.

None of those are IB Gram prices. We do not publish a rate card on these pages, because the honest number depends on the board, the tier, the year group and the weeks remaining, and a figure that ignores those is a marketing device rather than a quote. What we will do is tell you what the market charges, say what each band genuinely buys, and then be specific about where DAMAC Hills 2 families most often spend money that produces nothing.

That last part is the useful half of this page. Maths is the subject families worry about most, which means it is the subject they buy most impulsively — fastest available tutor, lowest advertised rate, whichever evening slot is free. Each of those decisions has a predictable failure mode, and each one is avoidable with a question asked before the first invoice rather than after the third.

Lessons for DAMAC Hills 2 are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. That is relevant to the cost conversation, because from the Al Qudra corridor the in-home premium is substantially a driving charge, and a driving charge is the one part of a tutoring invoice that teaches nobody anything.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai hourly spread: AED 33 at the budget end to AED 650 premium
  • Monthly for one weekly hour: AED 240-600 budget, 600-1,200 mid, 1,000-2,000+ specialist
  • In-home visits AED 180-500 including travel; from this corridor much of that is the drive
  • The commonest waste is a budget generalist handed a Year 11 Extended-tier student
  • Ask for the board and tier before agreeing any rate: 0580 Core and 4MA1 Higher are different jobs
  • No IB Gram rate card here; a quote follows the free trial lesson
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What you are buying changes completely with the year group, and so does the price of getting it wrong. These are the stages we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 maths students.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9 maths, the cheap year

Nothing is externally examined, so nothing feels urgent, and that is exactly why it is the cheapest place to fix a maths problem. Algebraic fluency, fraction and index work and the habit of writing method down all cost a fraction here of what they cost in Year 11, when they have to be repaired under time pressure alongside new content.

DAMAC Hills 2 sees a lot of mid-stage arrivals from other systems, and a child joining in Year 9 from CBSE or an American school meets a different topic order partway through. A short diagnostic block here is the single best-value purchase in the whole sequence, and almost nobody makes it.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, where the grade is actually bought

The first examined year, when most syllabus content is delivered and tier placement is confirmed. One session a week here is unurgent and inexpensive, and it prevents the three-sessions-a-week rescue that a Year 11 family ends up paying for. It is also the last point at which a tier change is realistic.

The arithmetic is worth doing. A weekly mid-tier session through Year 10 at the published AED 600-1,200 monthly band costs less over the year than a Year 11 specialist block at AED 1,000-2,000 a month plus the extra subjects it usually drags in. Families compare rates per hour and rarely compare totals.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the expensive year

Mocks, entries, then the series. The work shifts from content to producing marks: timing, showing method, reading a question for what it asks. This is when most families buy, at the highest rates, for the shortest remaining window, and it is where the specialist exam-year band of AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month comes from.

By February of Year 11 the honest conversation is about triage rather than coverage. We would rather name the one or two subjects where a grade can move in the time available than take a fee for five. That conversation costs us money and it is the one worth having.

ResitAges 16+ · after the June series

November entry and resits

A narrow, cheaper purchase: one subject, a defined topic list, a fixed endpoint at the November papers. Six to ten sessions is often the whole requirement, which makes it dramatically better value than a general arrangement running all year.

Worth knowing before planning: UAE candidates sit the June and November Cambridge series. The February/March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with November results reaching students in January.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE maths is one subject with several distinct cost centres inside it. These are the components and adjacent courses DAMAC Hills 2 families buy help with, and what each is genuinely worth paying for.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The commonest entry in Dubai UK-curriculum schools. Core caps below the top grades; Extended covers the full syllabus. Paying for Extended-level tutoring while entered for Core is a straightforward waste, and so is the reverse, so confirm the tier before agreeing a rate.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

A different specification with its own tiering and paper structure. Past papers are not interchangeable with Cambridge. A term of the wrong board's practice is the second most common wasted spend we see, and it is invisible until the real paper arrives.

Algebraic manipulation

Both boards, both tiers

The foundation layer, and where most Year 11 students who name a different problem actually need the work. Expanding, factorising, rational expressions, rearranging formulae. Cheap to fix in Year 9, expensive in Year 11, and the single highest-return topic in the subject.

Non-calculator fluency

Both boards

Fractions, indices, surds, standard form and mental estimation under time pressure. Students with calculator habits lose marks steadily rather than dramatically. A short, specific block closes it, which makes it good value compared with general revision.

Multi-step problem solving

Extended and Higher tiers

Unstructured questions where nothing indicates which technique applies. This is pattern recognition, built only by working many real questions with feedback, and it is the main thing a specialist delivers that a generalist cannot.

Showing method

Both boards, both tiers

Method marks are available throughout and are forfeited daily by students who can reach a right answer in their head. Changing this habit is a behaviour change rather than a knowledge gain, takes a few weeks, and is possibly the cheapest grade movement available.

Geometry and trigonometry

Both boards

Circle theorems, bearings, three-dimensional trigonometry and the sine and cosine rules. Students often know the rules and cannot see which applies to an unfamiliar diagram, which again is recognition practice rather than content teaching.

Statistics and probability

Both boards

Cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal intervals, tree diagrams and conditional probability. Unequal-interval histograms are a reliably examined topic that students reliably get wrong, and it can be taught properly in a single session.

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606

Taken alongside 0580 Extended

A bridging course for students heading to A Level or Higher Level Diploma maths. Calculus and trigonometric identities arrive early, and residual algebraic weakness is exposed immediately. Worth paying for only if the post-16 route needs it.

Post-16 bridging

Year 11 into Year 12

A short block on the algebra, functions and trigonometry that A Level or IB Analysis and Approaches assumes and IGCSE does not fully build. Taken in the summer it is inexpensive; taken in November of Year 12 it is a rescue at rescue prices.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases of very different sizes, all delivered online over live video. The cheapest one that solves your actual problem is the right one.

Fixed-scope single-topic block

The smallest useful purchase. One named weakness, a topic list agreed as the scope, six to ten sessions, then a review and a deliberate stop with no automatic rollover. For a capable student with one hole — unequal-interval histograms, circle theorems, algebraic fractions — this is usually the entire requirement.

  • Scope written down before the first session
  • Six to ten sessions, then an honest stop
  • Typically the lowest-total-cost option that changes anything
  • Also the right shape for a November resit entry

Weekly through Year 10

One session a week across the first examined year, following the school's topic order and closing gaps as they appear. In total cost over two years this is usually cheaper than a Year 11 rescue, and it is the only mode in which a tier change is still a live option.

  • Sixty minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Tier compatibility reviewed while the decision is still open
  • Paced against the school scheme of work
  • Half-term reviews against specification objectives

Year 11 exam-term intensive

The most expensive mode and sometimes the necessary one. Two or three sessions a week from after the mocks, working correct-board past papers under timed conditions with the error pattern deciding what gets taught. We quote it only after a diagnostic, and we will say when the time left does not justify it.

  • Diagnostic on the correct board's papers before any quote
  • Two or three sessions weekly through the final term
  • Honest triage: which subjects can move, which should wait for November
  • Scales down rather than running to the papers by default

01

The four ways DAMAC Hills 2 families waste money on maths tutoring

  • Budget generalist plus exam-year student: cheap per hour, total waste
  • Wrong board: invisible until the paper arrives, costs a term
  • Travel premium bought for its own sake rather than for presence
  • Five subjects at once in Year 11, so none of them gets enough attention

These are not hypothetical. They are the four patterns we see most often when a family comes to us after a year of paying somebody else, and each one has a question that would have prevented it.

First: a budget generalist handed an exam-year student. At AED 33-65 an hour a capable graduate can genuinely help a Year 8 with homework. Put the same person in front of a Year 11 sitting Extended tier and they will teach plausible mathematics that is not the specification, pleasantly, for a term, with no change in paper performance. It felt cheap, which is what makes it the most expensive mistake available. The preventing question: which specification do you teach, and at which tier?

Second: the wrong board. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 set different papers with different tiering. A term of the wrong board's past papers trains the wrong instincts about what a question wants, and it is invisible until the real paper arrives. The preventing question is one email to the school office asking for the code.

Third: paying the travel premium for proximity when proximity was not the problem. In-home visits are published at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from the Al Qudra corridor a real share of that is driving. For a younger child who needs physical presence that is money well spent. For a Year 11 working through past papers, it buys a car journey. Fourth: buying five subjects in February of Year 11 when two could move and three could not — which is how a family spends the specialist exam-year rate across a load that dilutes every session.

02

What the Dubai market charges, cheapest band first

Sorting the market by price rather than by prestige makes the decision clearer, because it shows what each step up actually adds. The bottom band buys attention and company. The middle buys specification knowledge. The top buys scarcity, and sometimes a credential you cannot verify.

Working up: budget online tutoring from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya at AED 33-52 and EdFlik at AED 45-65. Tuition-centre group classes typically AED 60-150 per student per hour. Qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE, IB and A Level tutors AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate putting the band at AED 200-450 plus. In-home one-to-one AED 180-500 including travel. Premium named tutors AED 500-650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Two cautions on the top end. A premium rate is not evidence of a premium outcome, and claimed examiner status should be treated as a claim until it is evidenced — examiner status also gives nobody access to marking, boundaries or paper content, whatever is implied. We do not describe our tutors as examiners, because current examiner status is not something we can demonstrate to you.

Every figure here was read from the publishing provider's own page in October 2026 and belongs to that provider. None is an IB Gram price. We quote after a diagnostic and a free trial lesson, because board, tier, year group and weeks remaining all change the answer and a number quoted before those are known is not a quote.

Cost per grade rather than cost per hour

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for this decision, because the same hourly rate produces wildly different results depending on when it is spent and on what. A family comparing AED 150 against AED 270 is answering a less important question than a family comparing eight sessions in Year 10 against thirty in Year 11.

Consider the arithmetic over the two examined years. A weekly mid-band session through Year 10 at the published AED 600-1,200 monthly range runs to roughly AED 6,000-12,000 across the school year, and arrives in Year 11 with foundations secure and a tier decision taken deliberately. A family that skips Year 10 and buys a Year 11 specialist intensive at the published AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, usually across more than one subject, frequently spends as much in five months and starts from a worse position.

The cheapest intervention of all is the one almost nobody buys: a short fixed-scope block in Year 9 on algebraic fluency and non-calculator work. Six to ten sessions in the mid band, perhaps AED 1,500-3,000 in total at published rates, addressing the exact layer that Year 11 students most often turn out to need. It feels unnecessary because nothing is examined yet, which is precisely why it is cheap.

The table puts four realistic spending patterns side by side with what each buys. It is built from the published market bands rather than from our prices, and the figures are indicative totals rather than quotes. The point is the last column.

FOUR SPENDING PATTERNS COMPARED, USING PUBLISHED DUBAI MARKET BANDS

The tier decision changes the value of every dirham

No amount of tutoring moves a student above the ceiling of the tier they are entered for, which makes tier the first thing to establish and the thing most parents are never told clearly. Cambridge offers 0580 Mathematics in Core and Extended versions; Pearson runs 4MA1 at Foundation and Higher. Core and Foundation cover a reduced syllabus and cap below the top grades.

Spending in the wrong direction is easy here. A family paying specialist rates for a child entered on Core, aiming at a grade the Core paper cannot award, is buying something that cannot be delivered. A family paying budget rates for a child on Extended who needs the full syllabus covered is buying something too thin to work. Neither mistake is visible on an invoice.

The tier decision is usually taken by the department during Year 10 on the basis of class performance, and is often reversible for a while. That window is where tutoring has its maximum financial leverage, because moving tier opens grades that no amount of later practice can reach. Once entries are confirmed by the centre, months before the papers, the question is closed.

So the sequence that spends money well is: establish the tier, check it against the post-16 route the child actually wants, change it in Year 10 if there is a mismatch, and only then buy teaching. Reversing that order is how families spend a year of fees inside a ceiling they did not know existed.

Why we charge nothing for the thing that tells you most

  • One full trial lesson, with the tutor who would continue, no card required
  • The diagnostic comes first and uses the correct board at the correct tier
  • In maths the named topic is usually not the real gap
  • Any condition attached to a free offer should be on the same screen as the word

The free trial lesson is not a sales device and it is not taught by a different person from the one who would continue. The specialist proposed for your child teaches a full session, and you and the student judge it afterwards. If the explanation style does not land, nothing has been spent and we propose somebody else.

The reason it is free is straightforward: in maths, explanation style matters more than in any other subject, and no amount of written description predicts it. A tutor with the right specification knowledge and the wrong pace for your child will produce a term of pleasant sessions and no movement. One hour tells you what a brochure cannot, and charging for that hour would mean families commit on worse information.

The diagnostic sits before the trial. The student works through real questions from the correct board at the correct tier while a specialist watches. That is where the genuine gap appears, and in maths it is almost always underneath the named topic: a student who says trigonometry is the problem usually needs algebraic rearrangement, and a student who says statistics is the problem usually needs to read the question more slowly.

Being specific about the free part matters because the word free gets misused in this market. The trial is one full lesson, with the proposed tutor, with no card required and no obligation to continue. If any condition attaches to an offer you are given elsewhere, it should be stated on the same screen as the word free, and frequently it is not.

06

Is the tutor you are paying permitted to teach in the UAE?

This belongs in a cost discussion because it is a risk you are paying for without being told. Private tuition in the UAE requires a permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's service is Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, applied for via its smart app, website or e-services with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Because the permit costs nothing and takes two working days, there is no legitimate price reason for a tutor not to hold one. Eligibility is wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, and Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify amounts, so ignore any figure circulating informally.

The permit also carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes the same restriction for Abu Dhabi school staff. A provider offering your child's own classroom teacher privately is telling you something about itself.

For completeness: an individual needs the MoHRE permit, and an organisation running tutoring from premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership and claims none, and has no UAE office or centre.

07

What a maths grade is worth downstream

Spending decisions make more sense with the downstream consequences in view, and for maths they are unusually concrete.

The immediate one is post-16 access. Most UAE British-curriculum schools split after Year 11 into A Levels or the IB Diploma, and maths-heavy courses at both — A Level Mathematics, IB Analysis and Approaches, particularly at Higher Level — expect a strong Extended-tier or high-grade result. A capped tier or a weak grade closes those doors quietly, and the closing happens before anybody discusses university.

The second is equivalency. For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student needs five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus either one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five, which catches families out because both are mandatory in Dubai schools. Maths is almost always one of the five a plan depends on.

The third is simply time. A student who arrives in Year 12 with shaky algebra will spend the first term of an A Level or Diploma maths course repairing it, usually with paid help, at exactly the moment the new course is accelerating. That is a cost incurred later for a saving made earlier, and it is the clearest argument for buying in Year 9 or Year 10 rather than Year 11.

08

What we will not sell you

  • No grade, tier or improvement guarantees
  • No statistics without n, date and method — so none
  • No past papers or mark schemes hosted; official sources linked instead
  • No UAE home visits at any price; the smallest effective purchase proposed instead

No guarantee of a grade, a tier change or an improvement. The variables are not under a tutor's control, and in a market where several ranking pages do offer guarantees, declining to is information rather than modesty.

No statistics without a sample size, a date and a method, which in practice means no statistics at all. No average grade achieved by students we have taught, no percentage improved, no satisfaction score, and no self-generated star rating. Competitors publish figures like 4.9 from several hundred reviews, sometimes two conflicting versions on the same page, and none of them states how the number was produced. A figure like that is decoration priced as evidence.

No awarding-body material as downloads. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and we cite and link them rather than hosting them. No description of our tutors as examiners, because current examiner status is not something we can demonstrate. And no home visits anywhere in the UAE, at any price, because there is no UAE visiting service to buy.

What we will sell you is the smallest thing that solves the problem. If a fixed-scope block of eight sessions on algebraic manipulation is what the diagnostic shows, that is what we propose, and we will say so even when a weekly arrangement running to the series would be worth more to us. A fixed-scope block ends on the date the scope says it ends, and the review at that point is an honest one rather than a renewal conversation dressed as a review.

Where we tutor

The Dubailand belt, and what location does to the price

Where you live changes the cost of in-home tutoring and nothing else, which is itself worth knowing. These are the communities around DAMAC Hills 2.

DAMAC Hills 2

Off the Al Qudra corridor, formerly Akoya Oxygen. Far enough out that any in-home rate quoted here carries a significant driving component, whether or not the invoice itemises it.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community, so the school run is short. In-home quotes here are marginally lower than for DAMAC Hills 2, which tells you what the difference is actually paying for.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School. Budgets here weigh the travel premium most carefully, and it is the community where online rates get the fairest hearing on their merits.

Mudon

Al Qudra side, largely Years 7 to 9. The best-value place to buy maths support in the whole belt, because fixing algebra at thirteen costs a fraction of repairing it at sixteen.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established community on the Emirates Road side, sharing the school pool. Slightly shorter runs, slightly lower in-home quotes, same thin supply of board-specific maths specialists.

Serena

A quieter Dubailand community on the same corridor with the same structure: housing here, schools a drive away, and no meaningful local pool of Extended-tier maths tutors.

Town Square

Further along with commuting parents, so sessions land late or at weekends. The in-home premium quoted into Town Square is comparable to DAMAC Hills 2 for the same reason.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the board, the code and the tier

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher. One email to the school office returns all three. A rate quoted before these are known is a guess, and a tutor matched before they are known is a coin toss.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic on the correct paper

The student works real questions from the specification and tier they are actually entered for while a specialist watches. This is where the gap appears, and in maths it is usually underneath the named topic — algebra rather than trigonometry, reading rather than statistics.

  3. 03

We propose the smallest thing that works

Sometimes that is eight sessions on one topic. Sometimes it is a weekly slot through Year 10. Occasionally it is a Year 11 intensive. We quote after the diagnostic, and if the honest answer is that the time left does not justify the spend, we say that instead.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson with that tutor

One full lesson with the specialist who would continue, no card required, no obligation. If the explanation style does not suit your child, nothing has been spent and we propose someone else. In maths this hour tells you more than anything written down.

Review against the specification, and stop when done

Progress reported against specification objectives rather than impressions, and a fixed-scope block ends when the scope is covered. No automatic rollover into open-ended tutoring unless you ask for it, because an arrangement that continues by default is the quietest way a family overspends.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure attributed and dated

Three of six ranking competitors publish no price and two quote US dollars. Every AED band here names the provider that published it and the month it was read, so you can check any of them, and none is presented as an IB Gram rate.

We name where the money gets wasted

Budget generalist plus exam-year student, the wrong board's past papers, a travel premium bought for its own sake, and five subjects at once in February. Those four patterns cost DAMAC Hills 2 families more than any rate difference does.

Tier before teaching

No amount of tutoring beats the ceiling of the tier entered. We establish Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher first, check it against the intended post-16 route, and raise a mismatch while Year 10 still makes it fixable.

The smallest effective purchase

If a diagnostic shows one topic missing, we propose eight sessions and stop, even though a weekly arrangement to the series would be worth more to us. Fixed scope, written down, with no automatic rollover.

Free means one full lesson, no conditions

With the specialist who would actually continue, no card required and no obligation. The word free gets misused in this market; any condition attached to an offer should be on the same screen as the word, and often is not.

No guarantees and no decorative numbers

No promised grade, no improvement percentage, no self-generated rating, no claimed regulator approval, no hosted past papers and no UAE home visits. What you get is a diagnostic verdict that sometimes says the time available is not enough.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills 2: your questions answered

What does an IGCSE maths tutor cost for a DAMAC Hills 2 family?+

The published Dubai spread, read in October 2026, runs from AED 33-65 an hour at the budget end (Tutopiya AED 33-52, EdFlik AED 45-65), through AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor (Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150), to AED 200-450 and above for a specialist (TutorChase AED 270, Bestimate AED 200-450+), with BartyED at AED 650 premium. In-home visits are AED 180-500 including travel. Those belong to the providers named, not to us. We quote after a diagnostic, because board, tier and year group change the answer.

What should we budget per month for maths help in Year 11?+

Bestimate's Dubai research puts specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month for one weekly hour, with mid-tier at AED 600-1,200 and budget at AED 240-600. In practice Year 11 families often buy two or three sessions a week in the final term, which multiplies the monthly figure. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits. The cheaper route is to buy the same total earlier, across Year 10, rather than compressed into five months.

Is a cheap maths tutor ever good value for an exam-year student?+

Rarely, and this is the commonest expensive mistake in this market. At AED 33-65 an hour a capable graduate can genuinely help a Year 8 with homework and keep them company through it. Handed a Year 11 entered for Extended or Higher tier, the same person will teach plausible mathematics that is not the specification, agreeably, for a term, and the paper performance will not move. The low hourly rate makes the total feel small, which is exactly why it goes unexamined until results day.

Does the in-home premium buy anything for IGCSE maths out here?+

It buys physical presence, which is genuinely worth money for a younger or less self-managing student — someone to take a phone off the table and notice attention going before you do. For a Year 11 working through correct-board past papers, it buys a drive down Al Qudra Road. In-home rates are published at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, and from this corridor a real share of that is the journey. The thing that moves a maths grade is whether the tutor knows the specification, and that is uncorrelated with how close they live.

When is maths tutoring cheapest to buy?+

Year 9, which is when almost nobody buys it. A fixed-scope block of six to ten sessions on algebraic fluency and non-calculator work costs perhaps AED 1,500-3,000 at published mid-band rates and addresses the exact layer that struggling Year 11 students usually turn out to need. It feels unnecessary because nothing is examined yet. Year 10 is the next best, at roughly AED 6,000-12,000 across the year for a weekly mid-band session, and it arrives in Year 11 with foundations secure and the tier chosen deliberately.

Can tutoring move my child above their tier's grade ceiling?+

No. Cambridge 0580 Core and Pearson 4MA1 Foundation cover a reduced syllabus and cap below the top grades, so no amount of teaching inside that entry produces an uncapped grade. This is why tier is the first thing to establish and why paying specialist rates inside a capped tier is money spent on something undeliverable. The decision is usually taken by the department during Year 10 and is often reversible for a while, which is where tutoring has its maximum financial leverage. Once the centre confirms entries, the question is closed.

How much does it cost to have practised the wrong exam board?+

A term, usually, and it is invisible until the real paper arrives. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different specifications with different tiering and paper structures, and past papers are not interchangeable. A tutor drilling the wrong board teaches correct mathematics while training the wrong instincts about what a question is asking for. The preventing step is free: one email to the school office asking for the board and syllabus code of each subject, because Dubai schools routinely use both across different departments.

Would a Dubailand tuition-centre group class be better value for us?+

Per head, yes; per outcome, it depends entirely on the student. Dubai centre listings put group classes at roughly AED 60-150 per student per hour against AED 150-300 for a qualified one-to-one tutor. A group works when a student's gap is the same as the group's gap and they will speak up. It works poorly when the gap is specific, because the pace is set by the middle of the room and nobody diagnoses an individual. For a DAMAC Hills 2 family there is also the drive out and back for every session.

How many maths sessions a week should we actually pay for?+

One, in most cases, and two only in an exam term with a diagnosed reason. Maths rewards consistency and reflection between sessions more than volume: a student given three hours a week often does less independent practice, because the tutoring replaces it rather than directing it. Where we do recommend two or three, it is for a specific window with a defined endpoint rather than as a standing arrangement. More sessions is the easiest thing for any provider to sell and frequently the least effective thing to buy.

Why is the trial lesson free, and what is the catch?+

There is no card required and no obligation to continue, and the lesson is taught by the specialist who would actually carry on rather than by a salesperson. It is free because in maths explanation style decides whether the money works, and nothing written down predicts that — a tutor with the right specification knowledge and the wrong pace produces a pleasant term and no movement. Charging for the hour would mean families commit on worse information. If you are offered something free elsewhere, check whether its conditions appear on the same screen.

Does a higher hourly rate mean a better maths tutor?+

Not reliably. The published Dubai top end is AED 500-650 and above, with BartyED at AED 650, and a premium rate reflects scarcity and reputation rather than demonstrated outcomes. Treat claimed examiner status as a claim until it is evidenced, and note that examiner status gives nobody access to marking, boundaries or paper content whatever is implied. We do not describe our own tutors as examiners, because current examiner status is not something we can demonstrate to you. Specification knowledge plus the right explanation pace is what you are buying.

Which maths topics give the best return on tutoring spend?+

Algebraic manipulation first, because almost everything else sits on it and most Year 11 students who name a different problem need this one. Then showing method, which is a habit change worth real marks and costs a few weeks. Then non-calculator fluency, and then the reliably examined topics students reliably get wrong — unequal-interval histograms, circle theorems, three-dimensional trigonometry. Each of those is a fixed-scope block with a visible endpoint, which makes them far better value than open-ended general revision.

Do we have to keep paying once the gap is closed?+

No, and we will tell you when it is. A fixed-scope block ends when the agreed topic list is covered, with a review and a deliberate stop rather than an automatic rollover into open-ended tutoring. An arrangement that continues by default is the quietest way a family overspends on tutoring, and it is easy for any provider to let happen. If you want to continue weekly after a block, that is a decision to make rather than a drift to notice six months later.

Does the tutor need a UAE permit, and does it cost us anything?+

A permit is required and it costs the tutor nothing, which means there is no price reason for anyone to lack one. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website or e-services. Eligibility covers school and sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Ask to see it. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no amounts are published.

Why does maths matter for UAE equivalency?+

Because it is almost always one of the five subjects a plan depends on. For the British track, Ministry of Education equivalency requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus either one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five, even though both are mandatory in Dubai private schools. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae; IB Gram does not process or guarantee equivalency and nobody should imply tutoring is required for it.

Know the board, the tier and the total before you pay anything

The useful version of hiring an IGCSE maths tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 is three facts and one hour. The facts: which board and syllabus code, which tier, and which of the twenty-four months from Year 10 you are standing in. The hour: a free trial lesson with the specialist who would continue, after a diagnostic on the correct board's paper. We will then propose the smallest thing that solves the problem and quote it, or tell you the time left does not justify the spend. Everything is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
