IB DP Home Tutor in the UAE

Parents looking for an IB DP home tutor in the UAE are usually asking two questions at once: what does this cost, and what does the money actually buy. Visiting Diploma tutors in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are advertised between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour, with travel priced inside the number whether or not anyone itemises it. IB Gram answers the same need as one-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, so the fee buys teaching hours rather than a drive across the emirate.

  • Live one-to-one video lessons, timetabled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Market AED rates published on this page, each with its source named
  • Higher Level specialists matched by subject, not by driving distance
  • Written feedback on your child's own drafts, never work produced for them

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What an IB DP home tutor costs in the UAE, and what the money is really buying

The phrase covers three different purchases. The first is a subject rescue: a Higher Level science or Mathematics grade that fell at the first mock and needs weekly attention for eighteen months. The second is a component purchase, bought in a block: four hours of Internal Assessment supervision, six on the Extended Essay, three on a Theory of Knowledge essay. The third is a technique purchase in the final term, where the content is known and the marks are being lost to timing, command terms and unfinished papers. These three jobs cost very different amounts, and the commonest budgeting mistake a UAE family makes is to buy the first when the evidence points at the third.

The UAE market publishes enough to price all three. A generalist or university-student tutor working online advertises from AED 33 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik listing from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. A qualified subject teacher online runs roughly AED 150 to AED 300; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. A tutor who travels to a UAE address is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table sitting at AED 180 to AED 350. Declared specialists in IB, IGCSE and A-Level sit at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase quoting AED 270, and a named or examiner-tier tutor can reach AED 650, as BartyED advertises. Those are market figures collected in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

Four things move a Diploma quote inside those bands, and only one of them is about the tutor's biography. Scarcity does most of the work: a Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level teacher or a Chemistry HL option specialist is simply rarer than a Standard Level Business Management tutor, and rarity sets the rate. Proximity does the rest. A search that filters by what is reachable within a thirty-minute drive of Mirdif or Al Reem Island returns a short list, and a short list prices up. Exam proximity is the third: the same hour is dearer in February than in September because everyone wants the same ten weeks. Format is the fourth, and it is the only one a family controls outright.

This is where the honest answer to the search matters. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are something we offer only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, timetabled in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own script, criteria sheet and mark breakdown on a shared screen. The point is not that online is a cheaper substitute. The point is that it detaches the price from the postcode: a family in Ras Al Khaimah or Khalifa City gets the Physics HL specialist the subject needs rather than whoever happens to be free within driving distance that evening, and nobody is paying for the drive.

What follows prices the Diploma the way it is actually assessed. There is a rate table with its sources named, an audit of all six Diploma slots that says plainly where paid hours change an outcome and where they do not, a Higher and Standard Level comparison read as a spending decision, component blocks costed at published market rates, four real-shaped UAE family budgets, the academic-honesty boundary that protects the money you spend, and the two UAE bills nobody puts on a tutoring quote: the Ministry subjects running alongside the Diploma and the equivalency file a graduate needs afterwards.

At a glance

  • Visiting Diploma tutors in the UAE advertise AED 180-500 an hour; the drive is inside that number
  • An HL subject absorbs roughly twice the support hours of the same subject at SL
  • Internal Assessment supervision is a four-to-five-hour job, not a weekly subscription
  • The cheapest hours in the Diploma are Mathematics hours bought early in DP1
  • Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • Every AED figure on this page is a market figure with the publisher and the month named
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four things get called the Diploma in UAE enquiries, and they cost differently. The full Diploma, individual DP courses taken as certificates, the core components that sit outside the six subjects, and the MYP or IGCSE year that feeds into DP1. Knowing which one you are buying for stops a family paying weekly rates for a job that takes six scheduled hours.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

The full Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Subject grades run 1 to 7, the core adds a small number of points on top, and 24 points is the published floor for the award of the Diploma. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment marked in school against published criteria and then moderated externally. That structure is why a Diploma budget is not one number: six subjects and three core components are nine separate decisions about whether to buy hours.

UAE schools sit the May session, so DP2 runs from late August through to examinations the following spring, with internal deadlines for Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay clustered in the autumn and winter. International Baccalaureate pupils are about 7% of Dubai's private-school roll, and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three further IB schools among seven new openings. Dubai's schools answer to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to SPEA, and the remaining emirates to the federal Ministry of Education.

DP COURSESAges 16-19 · one to five subjects

DP courses taken as certificates

A student can take individual Diploma courses and receive certificates without attempting the full award. UAE families meet this route when a transfer arrives mid-cycle, when a sixth subject is dropped to protect three Higher Levels, or when a strong student adds one DP course alongside another qualification. The assessment for each course is unchanged, including the Internal Assessment, so the tutoring need per subject is identical. What changes is the budget: a certificate candidate is buying one or two subjects, not nine decisions.

Course candidates in the UAE need two checks before any tutoring is booked. The school must confirm which components are still required, because an Internal Assessment deadline does not move for a certificate candidate. The family should also confirm with the Ministry of Education's own equivalency channel what a certificate set will be recognised as, since recognition rules differ from the full Diploma and no page should state an IB points threshold that has not been read on moe.gov.ae.

CORESpanning DP1 and DP2

The core: Extended Essay, TOK and CAS

A 4,000-word Extended Essay on a question the student chooses, a Theory of Knowledge essay on a prescribed title, and CAS, which is not graded but must be completed. The core is where UAE families most often buy help, and where the boundary matters most: a supervisor and a tutor may teach research method, challenge a scope that is too wide and respond to drafts, but the words must be the student's own. Six scheduled feedback hours across eighteen months is a realistic shape.

School supervisors in the UAE typically carry several Extended Essay students alongside a full timetable, which is why feedback can arrive late in the cycle. A scheduled external reader who reads the draft within a week is a genuine value purchase at AED 200 to AED 300 an hour. CAS is the one part nobody should be charged for: it is logged and reflected on by the student, and no tutor should be filling in a CAS portfolio.

MYP 5 / IGCSEAges 14-16 · MYP 5 or IGCSE Year 11

The year before DP1

The Diploma entry decision is made here, and it is the single most expensive decision in this whole document. A student who walks into Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level without secure algebra and functions will need twelve to twenty paid hours in DP1 simply to close a gap that six hours would have closed the summer before. The same applies to the sciences, where IGCSE Core or a foundation-tier route leaves a measurable distance from HL expectations.

UAE schools run both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE into the Diploma, and the two have different session structures. Cambridge runs a June and a November series plus a March series in some zones, with the March 2027 examination period published as 3 February to 4 March 2027 and final entries due 27 November 2026. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 timetable finishing on 19 November 2026. The summer between the two is when bridging hours are cheapest and most effective.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects UAE families ask about most, with the places marks are actually lost at Higher and Standard Level. Where the scarcity of specialists in a given emirate pushes the visiting rate up, the online route removes the premium entirely, because the tutor does not have to live within reach of your evening.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested subject on the platform and the most expensive to leave alone. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, so weak algebraic manipulation shows up immediately. At Higher Level, proof, complex numbers and the harder calculus carry disproportionate marks. Hours bought in the first term of DP1 do far more here than the same hours bought in February of DP2.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-led questions, with the graphical calculator central rather than incidental. Students lose marks for untidy modelling assumptions and for reporting statistical output without interpreting it. The route choice between AA and AI matters for admissions: several quantitative degrees expect AA, and that should be checked against each named university before a subject is switched to lighten a workload.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks leak in the extended-response questions and in the HL-only material, where students who can quote a result cannot derive it. Experimental skills are examined through data questions as well as the Internal Assessment. A Physics HL specialist is one of the scarcest categories in the UAE market, which is exactly why families in Al Ain, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain pay a visiting premium that online removes.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics are the recurring losses, and the HL extension adds depth rather than new topics. The Internal Assessment is frequently where strong candidates slip, because a question that cannot generate enough quantitative data is already capped before the writing begins. Four to five supervision hours spread over six weeks is the usual shape of useful help.

Biology

HL and SL

The content volume tempts students into recall revision when the marks sit in applying it to unfamiliar contexts. Command terms separate a 5 from a 7 here more than content does: outline, explain, evaluate and discuss each want a different structure. Statistical treatment in the Internal Assessment is the second common loss, and it is fixable in a short block.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams must be labelled and then used, not decorated. The Internal Assessment commentaries are a mark-efficient purchase because the format is learnable in two or three hours. At Higher Level the quantitative paper rewards students who practise under timing. UAE students handle the real-world material well and lose marks on the evaluation sentence that should close every answer.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools are applied mechanically when the examiner wants judgement. Marks are lost by describing a framework instead of using it on the case material, and at Higher Level by skipping the quantitative content. The Internal Assessment depends on access to usable business information, so the research question needs scrutiny before any writing starts; that review is a one-hour job done early.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis rewards a clear line of argument on an unseen text; Paper 2 needs two texts genuinely compared rather than described in turn. The individual oral is where rehearsal pays: a global issue the student actually chose, timed delivery and a structure that survives the examiner's questions. Three to four rehearsal hours is usually enough.

History

HL and SL

The source paper is a technique exam, not a knowledge exam, and students who revise content without practising source handling lose marks that were available to them. Higher Level adds depth studies and an essay paper with a longer time horizon. The Internal Assessment investigation has a strict structure that is quick to teach and costly to get wrong.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies are learned but not evaluated, which caps essays at the middle bands. The Internal Assessment is a replication with a precise write-up format, and marks go missing in the inferential statistics and the ethics discussion rather than in the experiment itself. A short block on the criteria is better value than a weekly slot across the year.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Register is the recurring issue in the writing task, and the productive-skills assessment rewards fluency practice rather than vocabulary lists. Arabic B inside the Diploma is a different purchase from the Arabic lesson the school must provide to meet UAE requirements, and families regularly pay for one when a report was flagging the other. Fortnightly conversation hours work better than weekly cramming.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The written papers test tracing and reasoning about algorithms, which students rarely practise by hand. The Internal Assessment is a solution developed for a real client, and it fails on scope and documentation more often than on code. Higher Level adds abstract data structures and the case study, which is published annually and rewards early reading.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four booking shapes cover almost every UAE Diploma enquiry. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The difference between them is not quality; it is how many hours you commit and when they land, which is the whole of the cost question.

Weekly one-to-one in a named subject

One scheduled hour a week in a single subject, usually a Higher Level science or Mathematics, running from the point the evidence appears through to the examination session. This is the most expensive pattern in a Diploma budget and the right one for a subject where gaps compound. It is rarely the right pattern for all six subjects at once.

  • Same tutor, same slot, booked a term at a time
  • Built from your child's school scheme of work and criteria sheets
  • Written notes after each session, so the next one starts where the last stopped
  • Paused during examination weeks rather than paid for and missed

A costed component block

A fixed number of hours aimed at one component: Internal Assessment supervision, the Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay, or a Higher Level option paper. You agree the hours and the deliverable before the first lesson, and the block ends. For most families this buys more marks per dirham than a weekly slot, because the work has a deadline and a published set of criteria.

  • Four to six hours is the usual size
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, in writing, between sessions
  • Criteria walked through letter by letter before drafting begins
  • Ends on the agreed date rather than rolling into a subscription

Pre-session intensive

A short, dense block in the final eight to twelve weeks before the examinations, aimed at timing, command terms and finishing papers. Content teaching is largely over by then; what remains is technique, and technique responds quickly. Demand for these weeks is the reason the same hour is dearer in February than in September across the whole UAE market.

  • Two sessions a week in one or two subjects, not six
  • Whole papers under timed conditions, marked against the published scheme
  • A written list of the specific question types still losing marks
  • Booked in December or January, because the slots are gone by March

The DP1 to DP2 summer bridge

A handful of hours in the long summer break, used to close a gap the first year exposed before the second year's deadlines arrive. In Mathematics and the sciences this is the cheapest intervention available, because it removes a problem before it is sitting on top of Internal Assessment deadlines and the Extended Essay.

  • Six to twelve hours across July and August
  • Scheduled around travel, with sessions following the family's time zone
  • Targeted at named topics from the DP1 report, not general revision
  • Often the only tutoring a strong student needs all year

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What is in the hour you are quoted, tier by tier

A Diploma-level tutoring hour in the UAE is advertised anywhere between AED 33 and AED 650, and the spread is not noise. Each band is a different product with a different thing missing from it. The table below is built only from figures the providers themselves publish, with the month they were collected, because the single most useful thing a page in this market can do is show its sources: of the ranking pages reviewed in October 2026, three published no price at all and the two that did quoted US dollars.

Read the fourth column first. The bottom band is cheap because it is a generalist, and a generalist does not know that a Chemistry Internal Assessment capped by a thin data set is already in trouble, or that a Mathematics Paper 1 answer gets no credit for calculator work. The visiting band is dear because somebody is driving, and that cost sits inside the hour whether or not it appears on the invoice. The top band may well be worth it, but a parent should ask for evidence of any claimed examining status rather than accept it as a reason for the rate.

None of these are IB Gram prices. We do not publish a rate card on a landing page, for a reason that becomes obvious once you have read the next two sections: a fortnightly Arabic B conversation hour and a weekly Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level slot through DP2 are different products, and a single headline number would mislead on both. What we do instead is a free trial lesson and a written plan that states the hours, what each one targets and what it will cost before anything is agreed.

One practical note on comparing quotes. Always normalise to a teaching hour. Monthly packages in this market are advertised at around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits, and dividing those out moves providers around the table considerably. Ask whether the figure is per hour or per lesson, whether a 50-minute lesson is billed as an hour, and whether VAT treatment has been stated; our own quoted figures state whether VAT is included, and no page should assert the tax treatment of tuition without a Federal Tax Authority citation.

The six-slot audit: which Diploma subjects are worth paying for

  • Bring the last report, one marked mock paper and the coordinator's deadline list
  • Ask which of three jobs this is: content rescue, component block, or timing
  • Fund the two subjects where the marks are recoverable, not all six
  • Re-run the audit after each mock; the answer moves across the two years

A full Diploma is nine assessed commitments: six subjects and three core components. Almost no UAE family funds tutoring in all nine, and the ones who try usually spend twice as much for a worse result, because nine simultaneous tutors produce nine sets of homework on top of the school's. The useful question is not which subject is hardest. It is which marks are currently recoverable, and at what hourly cost.

Run the audit on evidence, not anxiety. The three documents that answer it are the most recent school report, the first mock paper with the markscheme beside it, and the Internal Assessment deadline list from the coordinator. A subject where the mock lost marks on unfinished questions needs three technique hours. A subject where the mock lost marks on the first page needs a term of weekly teaching. Those two diagnoses differ by several thousand dirhams, and they look identical on a report card that says grade 4.

The table applies that logic slot by slot. Two of its conclusions surprise parents. The first is that the Group 6 or second elective slot is usually the one to leave alone: it is chosen last, revised last, and rarely the cheapest place to find marks. The second is that the core deserves scheduled money even when every subject grade looks healthy, because an Extended Essay question that is too wide costs marks that no amount of subject teaching recovers.

A free trial lesson is how the audit gets done properly. Spend it on a real marked script rather than an introduction, and ask the tutor to say which of the three diagnoses applies and how many hours it implies. If the answer is a weekly slot in every subject regardless of what the script shows, that is a sales answer, and it is a reliable signal to get a second opinion before any deposit is paid.

A Higher Level hour and a Standard Level hour are not the same purchase

The HL and SL labels are usually explained as difficulty. For a family doing arithmetic, they are better understood as a quantity of teaching. Higher Level carries more taught hours across the two years, additional option or extension material, and in several subjects an extra written paper. That translates almost directly into support hours: in practice an HL subject absorbs roughly double the paid hours the same subject needs at Standard Level, and the per-hour rate is higher too, because HL option specialists are the scarcest category in the UAE market.

This is why the subject-selection conversation in MYP 5 or IGCSE Year 11 belongs in a document about cost. Three Higher Levels chosen to keep every university option open, in a student whose prior attainment supports two, is the most expensive decision available to a UAE Diploma family. It shows up eighteen months later as three weekly slots at AED 200 to AED 300 an hour. Equally, dropping an HL to save money can close a degree course: medicine, engineering and most quantitative programmes expect specific Higher Levels, and that should be checked against each named university's own published requirements before anything is changed.

The comparison table reads across seven dimensions rather than restating weightings. Where exact paper counts and weightings matter for your child's subjects, take them from the current subject guide through the school's IB coordinator. We do not reproduce or supply syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes or grade boundary tables: they are the boards' copyright, and the honest route is to reference them and work from the material your child's school already holds.

One more practical point. The Internal Assessment is the same task at both levels in most subjects, and the supervision hours are therefore identical. What differs is the redraft cycle, which tends to run longer at Higher Level because the criteria are read more demandingly. A family budgeting a component block should plan the same four to five hours either way and expect the HL block to spread over a few more weeks.

Buying by component instead of by month

Most tutoring in this market is sold by the month, because a subscription is easier to bill. The Diploma, though, is assessed in components with deadlines, and a family that buys by component rather than by month usually spends less and gets more. An Internal Assessment is a finite job: a defensible research question, a walk through the criteria, feedback on the student's own drafts, a final check against the brief. Four to five hours spread over six weeks covers it. Billed as a monthly subscription from October to March, the same job costs several times as much.

The table below costs each component block at published UAE market rates, in the AED 200 to AED 300 range where a qualified subject teacher sits. The point of putting money against components is to let a family sequence the spend: an Internal Assessment block in DP1, an Extended Essay block across the DP1 and DP2 boundary, a Theory of Knowledge block once the title is chosen, and a technique block in the final term. Four blocks across two years is a very different cash-flow shape from eighteen months of weekly lessons in three subjects.

Two blocks deserve to be bought early at almost any price. The first is the Mathematics rebuild: twelve hours in DP1 closing algebra and functions gaps inherited from IGCSE or MYP, before Paper 1 practice begins. The second is the Extended Essay question. Three hours spent narrowing a question in DP1 prevents the single most common collapse in the core, which is a student in DP2 holding 4,000 words that answer a question nobody can research in that space.

The one component nobody should buy is coursework production. The hours in this table buy teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own work. If a provider offers to deliver a finished Internal Assessment or Extended Essay, that is academic malpractice under IB rules, it puts the Diploma itself at risk, and one such operator in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. It is the clearest example in the whole SERP of a price that is not value.

A visiting tutor and a live online tutor, counted across one DP2 week

Compare the two formats as they actually land in a Diploma week rather than as hourly rates. A DP2 student in the UAE finishes school in the middle of the afternoon, has CAS commitments, has Internal Assessment deadlines in several subjects at once, and in exam term is sitting mocks. The constraint is not money alone. It is which slots exist at all.

A visiting lesson at 6pm in Dubai or Abu Dhabi means a tutor leaving home around 5pm, which fixes the slot for everybody and makes a late change expensive: in this market a cancelled visit is usually still charged, because the travel was already committed. A scheduled video lesson at 6pm starts at 6pm, and if a CAS activity overruns it can move to 9pm the same evening without anyone absorbing a wasted journey. Over an eighteen-month Diploma, that flexibility is worth more than a discount on the rate.

The subject argument is stronger still. A search for a visiting tutor is a search inside a radius, and a radius is a poor filter for Diploma teaching. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Physics HL option material, Computer Science, History source technique and Arabic B are each specialist jobs; the chance that the right specialist for your child's subject also lives twenty minutes away in Al Ain, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain is low. Online delivery replaces that filter with the subject itself.

To be plain about what IB Gram sells: every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, timetabled in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own script, criteria sheet and mark breakdown on a shared screen. We do not send tutors to addresses in the UAE; the in-home service is one we run only in India. The table prices the UAE alternatives honestly, including the two that cost nothing and the one that costs a journey on a school night.

Four UAE Diploma families, four different bills

Rate tables tell a parent what an hour costs. They do not answer the question actually being asked, which is what a year of this will come to. The four shapes below are the enquiry patterns that recur across the emirates, costed at the published AED 200 to AED 300 band for a qualified subject teacher. None is a quotation; each is arithmetic a family can repeat with their own numbers.

Notice what the last column has in common. Every one of these families chose not to buy something. The DP1 Dubai family funded one subject and left five alone. The Abu Dhabi family waited for the mock evidence before committing a dirham, which cost them nothing and saved a term of weekly fees. The Sharjah family split a modest termly budget across two children instead of doubling a weekly slot. Restraint, not discount-hunting, is what keeps a Diploma budget sane.

The retake row is the one families never see coming. After results, a November session re-sit is a six-week intensive at full exam-term demand, plus the entry costs the examination centre charges a candidate. What carries forward from the first attempt, and what must be submitted again, is a question for the school's IB coordinator before any tutoring is booked, because the answer changes the hours considerably.

If you want to run this for your own situation, the inputs are short: which subjects, which levels, how many weeks until the relevant deadline, and which of the three jobs the marked evidence points at. Bring those four things to a free trial lesson and the plan that comes back should state the hours, the target and the cost before you commit to anything.

Academic honesty is a value question, not just an ethics one

Every dirham spent on Diploma support is exposed to one risk that dwarfs the others. If a tutor crosses the line into producing assessed work, the student faces an academic-misconduct investigation, and the whole two years is at stake. That makes the honesty boundary a value question as much as a moral one: the money only works if what it buys is admissible.

The line itself is not vague. A tutor may teach the subject, explain the assessment criteria in the student's own words, interrogate a research question, model what a strong response looks like on a different task, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not choose the question, supply the data, restructure the argument on the student's behalf, or put sentences into a piece of assessed work. Schools ask students to declare authenticity, supervisors record their interactions, and teachers who have taught a student for two years recognise a voice that is not theirs.

This market contains providers who ignore that. One advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Treat an offer to deliver a finished Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay as a reason to end the conversation, not as a premium service: what is on sale is a malpractice finding with a price tag. The same applies to any provider claiming access to unreleased papers, markschemes or grade boundaries.

There is a second honesty line worth checking before you pay. We do not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes or subject guides; they are the boards' copyright. Work is done from material your child's school already holds, with official sources cited and linked. A provider handing out large packs of board material should prompt a question about where it came from.

The Ministry subjects that sit outside the 45 points and inside the week

A Diploma budget built only around six subjects and the core misses something every UAE family is already paying for in time. Private schools in the Emirates teach Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, because the federal rule requires it and each emirate's regulator enforces it. KHDA's mandatory-subjects guidance for Dubai sets out who takes what, in which language, and how classes must be organised, and it required implementation by the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

Two details in that guidance matter for anyone planning tutoring. Classes must be separated by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and the guidance advises that no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes.

The third detail is the one that changes what a tutor can sell you. For these subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, and schools must ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach them. A provider offering a bespoke Arabic or Islamic Education programme for a Dubai school pupil is offering something the school itself is not permitted to adopt freely. Revision against the school's own material is the honest shape of help here.

The practical consequence for a budget is simple. Confirm what the school is already obliged to deliver and to how much weekly time before paying anyone for it. Families regularly fund an Arabic tutor when the report was flagging Arabic B inside the Diploma, which is a different subject with different assessment, or pay for Islamic Education support that the school must provide to KHDA's own allocation. Checking first is free and frequently saves a line item.

What a parent can verify before paying a deposit

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated, and the regulation is checkable. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the private tuition work permit, administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website and e-services.

Two things follow for a family comparing quotes. An individual tutoring privately in the UAE needs that permit, and anyone offering lessons without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the ministry has not published a schedule of amounts, so treat any specific figure circulating online with scepticism. Equally, because the permit is free, a tutor adding a licensing or permit fee to your invoice is charging for something that costs them nothing.

The second check concerns who may teach your child. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school. Any offer of your child's own class teacher, privately, should therefore be declined. It is worth confirming the current wording against ADEK's own published policy, since the detail here has been press-reported rather than quoted from the source document.

A third check is about the organisation rather than the individual. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit as a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit and makes no claim to one: we are an independent online tutor-matching platform with no UAE premises, no regulator approval and no partnership with any board or school. A provider describing itself as approved by KHDA should be asked to show the permit number.

The equivalency file a Diploma graduate needs, and what finding out late costs

After the Diploma comes a piece of administration that no tutoring quote mentions and many UAE families discover too late. To use an international school certificate for university admission or employment inside the Emirates, it has to be recognised through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process. The requirements differ by curriculum track, and the time it takes to assemble documents is not trivial in a summer that already contains results day and university deadlines.

For the British track the published requirements are specific. A student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE at no less than grade E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five. That last detail is worth knowing, because at least one ranking competitor page tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects. For the American track, English proficiency is shown by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Mathematics.

For the International Baccalaureate, this page states no points threshold, and a parent should be wary of any page that does without citing the Ministry. Nothing in the sourced material we hold publishes an IB figure, so the honest answer is to check moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority directly. That is a thirty-minute job that protects a two-year investment, and it is not something IB Gram performs, guarantees or charges for.

Where tutoring genuinely connects to equivalency is upstream. A student who drops a subject in DP1 to lighten a timetable, or switches Mathematics route to protect a grade, may be changing what their final certificate set shows. Before any such decision, read the equivalency requirements and the named universities' own published entry requirements. No tutoring is required for equivalency, and nobody should tell you otherwise; the process is a regulatory one with a published channel.

When no Diploma specialist is free at the hour you want

Availability is the thing this market conceals most consistently. A Mathematics AA HL slot at 6pm Gulf Standard Time in February is a genuinely scarce commodity, and no honest platform can promise one on demand. When the specialist your child's subject needs is not free at the hour you want, there are four real options and we say which applies rather than filling the slot with whoever is available.

The first is a different hour. A 5pm or a 9pm Gulf Standard Time lesson often opens a tutor who is fully booked at 6pm, and for a DP2 student the later slot frequently works better anyway, after dinner and the first pass at homework. The second is a different shape: two shorter sessions a week instead of one long one, which suits timing practice better than content teaching. The third is a tutor who covers an adjacent specialism honestly: a Physics HL teacher taking the mechanics and waves work while the option topics wait for the specialist to free up.

The fourth is to wait, and sometimes that is the right advice. If a family's evidence says the real problem is the Extended Essay question rather than the weekly subject grade, the correct answer may be three hours with a research supervisor next week rather than a weekly subject slot in six weeks' time. Telling a parent that costs us a booking and saves them money, which is the trade this page is built on.

What we will not do is substitute quietly. If the person teaching your child is not the specialist the plan named, you are told before the lesson, not after it. The same applies to the free trial lesson: it exists so that a family can test the diagnosis and the fit before any payment, and if the trial shows the match is wrong, the next step is a different tutor rather than a conversation about commitment.

Where we tutor

What a Diploma tutor costs across the seven emirates

Supply, not demand, sets the visiting rate in each emirate, and the regulator differs as you move between them. The pattern is consistent: the further a family is from the Dubai and Abu Dhabi school belts, the shorter the local specialist list becomes and the more of the quoted hour is travel. Online delivery flattens that curve, which is why the same lesson costs a Fujairah family what it costs a Jumeirah family.

Dubai

The deepest tutoring market in the country, with 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25 and seventeen curricula in play. Visiting rates cluster at Bestimate's AED 180-350. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees will not rise for 2026-27, which makes tutoring the variable line in a Dubai education budget.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK licenses and inspects the emirate's private schools, and its professional-ethics rules for school staff bar paid tutoring of pupils enrolled at the teacher's own school. Visiting rates match Dubai, but the island-to-Khalifa-City drive at 5pm removes a usable evening slot, so an early-evening online lesson is often the only pattern that survives a working week.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with far fewer Diploma schools than the capital. A Higher Level option specialist usually means somebody driving in, and that hour is priced accordingly. Families here get the clearest value from online delivery, because the subject list stops being limited by who lives within an hour of the house.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods, not just inspection outcomes. Many Sharjah families work in Dubai, so a visiting tutor is often a cross-border trip in the evening peak, with 45 minutes or more of the fee spent on Al Ittihad Road.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The local Diploma specialist pool is small, and quotes for a visiting HL tutor commonly include a Dubai or Sharjah journey. Scheduled online lessons are the realistic way to reach a named subject specialist at a fixed weekly time.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education is regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which, like SPEA, approves curricula and fees. Diploma candidates here are spread thinly across a handful of schools, and a visiting Mathematics AA HL tutor is rarely a local resident. Online removes the travel component from both the price and the timetable.

Fujairah

On the east coast, under Ministry of Education supervision, a visiting Diploma specialist often means a drive through the mountains in each direction. Very few families can fund that twice a week. The subject-by-subject approach in the audit below matters more here than anywhere: a small number of well-aimed online hours beats a weekly slot nobody can staff.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school market in the country, supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. Searching locally for an HL option specialist usually returns nothing at all, which is the real argument for live video rather than a cost argument. The rate is the same one a Dubai family pays, with no travel inside it.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai's Diploma schools

Dubai carries the largest concentration of IB World Schools in the country, and three more International Baccalaureate schools open in the 2026-27 intake as part of seven new openings adding 16,846 places. Students we support attend schools across this cluster, and their internal Internal Assessment deadlines rarely align, which is why tutoring plans are built from the school's own calendar rather than a generic one.

  • Dubai International Academy - Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School - Arabian Ranches

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK oversees licensing and accreditation for private schools in the emirate, and its inspection reports are the document to read before a tutoring plan is written: a subject flagged in a school report is a different purchase from a subject flagged in one mock. Diploma candidates in the capital are concentrated in a small number of schools, which thins the local specialist pool for HL options.

  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS World Academy - Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Diploma provision thins quickly north of Dubai, and the regulator changes with the emirate: SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Families here frequently hold a Dubai school place and a northern-emirates address, which makes an evening visiting slot almost impossible to staff.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, regulator or examination board named on this page; schools are listed only as the context UAE Diploma families work inside.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the six subjects, the levels and the evidence

Tell us all six Diploma subjects, which three are Higher Level, the school and the emirate, and attach the last report plus one marked mock paper if you have it. Evidence changes the recommendation more than any conversation does, and it is what lets us say which of the three jobs this actually is.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson spent on a real script

The trial is a diagnosis, not an introduction. The tutor works through a recent marked paper or Internal Assessment draft with your child, live, and names where the marks went. There is no payment at this stage and no obligation afterwards. If the fit is wrong, the next step is a different tutor.

  3. 03

A written plan with hours, targets and cost

You receive a plan that states which subjects or components are being funded, how many hours each needs, what those hours target, and what it costs before anything is agreed. Subjects the evidence does not support funding are listed as such, with the reason. Nothing starts until you approve the shape.

  4. 04

Weekly online lessons in Gulf Standard Time

Lessons run one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot, built from your child's own scheme of work and criteria sheets. Written notes follow each session so the next one starts where the last stopped, and feedback on drafts is given in writing on the student's own work between lessons.

  5. 05

    Re-audit after every mock

Mock results move the answer. After each round we re-run the audit: hours that have done their job stop, hours aimed at a solved problem are re-pointed, and a component block is scheduled against the coordinator's next deadline. A plan that never changes across two years was not built on evidence.

  6. 06

    Stop when it is finished

A component block ends on the date agreed. A weekly subject slot pauses through examination weeks rather than being charged and missed. We would rather a family bought twenty well-aimed hours and came back in DP2 than paid for eighteen months of lessons nobody was reading the notes from.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates on the page, with their sources

Every AED figure here names the publisher and the month it was collected, because three of the pages competing for this search publish no price at all and the two that do quote US dollars. A parent should be able to check our numbers against the original, and then ask us what our own quote is.

Matched by subject, not by radius

Because lessons are online, the search for a Mathematics AA HL or Physics HL option specialist is not restricted to who lives within a thirty-minute drive of your address. That is the single largest practical difference between the two formats for families in Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.

We will tell you not to buy something

The six-slot audit on this page exists to argue a family out of funding nine commitments at once. Group 6 rarely needs paid hours. CAS never does. Islamic Education is usually the school's obligation. A recommendation that every subject needs a weekly tutor is a sales pitch, not a diagnosis.

The honesty boundary stated in writing

A tutor here teaches, questions and gives written feedback on your child's own work. Nobody produces an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay, and nobody supplies board material we have no right to distribute. That is what keeps the marks your money defends admissible.

No regulator claims, no invented statistics

IB Gram is an independent online platform with no UAE premises, no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or Ministry permit, and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We publish no self-asserted star rating and no satisfaction percentage, because a statistic without its sample, date and method tells a parent nothing.

Availability disclosed before you pay

When the specialist a subject needs is not free at the hour you want, you are told, and offered a different hour, a different shape or a wait. The person teaching your child is the person the plan named. Quiet substitution is the commonest complaint in this market and the easiest thing to rule out.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What should I expect to pay an IB DP home tutor in the UAE per hour?+

Published UAE rates in October 2026 fall into clear bands. A generalist working online advertises from AED 33 to AED 150, with Tutopiya listing from AED 33 and EdFlik from AED 45. A qualified subject teacher online sits at roughly AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. A tutor travelling to a UAE address is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500, Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table showing AED 180 to AED 350. Declared specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and a named or examiner-tier tutor can reach AED 650. Those are market figures, not IB Gram's price; ours follows a free trial lesson and a written plan.

Is a visiting Diploma tutor worth the extra dirhams an hour compared with live online?+

The gap between AED 180 to AED 500 for a visit and AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified teacher online is largely travel, and travel buys nothing academic. What a visit does buy is a person in the room, which matters for some younger students and for some families. At Diploma level the trade usually runs the other way: a radius search returns a short list, and the Higher Level option specialist your child needs may not be on it. Our own answer is that IB Gram does not offer visits in the Emirates at all; UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video, so the fee is teaching time.

How many paid hours does one Higher Level subject usually absorb in a term?+

A weekly hour across a twelve-to-fourteen-week UAE term is the common pattern, so twelve to fourteen hours, which at published rates of AED 200 to AED 300 is roughly AED 2,400 to AED 4,200 a term for one subject. A Higher Level subject tends to need about twice what the same subject needs at Standard Level, because of the extra option material and, in the sciences, an additional paper. Before committing to a term, look at whether the marked evidence points at content, at a component deadline or at timing. The third needs a six-hour block, not a term.

We can only fund tutoring in one of my son's six Diploma subjects. Which one?+

Take the three documents first: the latest report, one marked mock with the markscheme, and the coordinator's deadline list. In most UAE enquiries the answer is Mathematics or a Higher Level science, because gaps there compound and are examined twice. If the mock shows marks lost on the first page of a paper, that subject needs sustained teaching. If marks were lost on unfinished questions, buy a short technique block instead and leave the weekly slot alone. And if the Extended Essay question is still vague in DP1, three hours there outranks any subject hour on this list.

Does paying a higher hourly rate get my daughter a better Diploma grade?+

No tutor at any rate can promise a grade, and anyone who does should be treated with real scepticism. What a higher rate reliably buys is scarcity: a teacher who knows the Higher Level option material, has marked against the current criteria and can read an Internal Assessment draft in a week. What it does not buy is more hours of your child's attention or a different set of published criteria. Between the AED 150 band and the AED 300 band the difference is usually real. Above AED 500, ask precisely what the premium covers and for evidence of any examining status claimed.

Can one tutor cover both of my child's Higher Level sciences to save money?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking. Physics and Chemistry at Higher Level are taught by the same person often enough in schools, and a tutor who genuinely covers both saves scheduling effort rather than money, since the rate is per hour either way. Where it stops working is the option or extension material, which is where Higher Level marks are concentrated and where single-subject depth shows. A reasonable compromise is one tutor for the shared ground and a specialist block for the option paper in the final term, which is cheaper than two weekly slots across two years.

What does supervision of an Internal Assessment cost, and what do we get for it?+

Four to five hours over about six weeks is the shape that works, which at published rates of AED 200 to AED 300 an hour is roughly AED 800 to AED 1,500. Those hours buy a research question that can actually be answered, a walk through the assessment criteria in the student's own words, written feedback on drafts the student wrote, and a final check against the brief before submission. They do not buy a written Internal Assessment: choosing the question, supplying data or rewriting paragraphs is malpractice under IB rules and puts the Diploma itself at risk.

Is it cheaper to book a block of hours than to pay week by week?+

Usually, and for a better reason than a discount. A block is defined by a deliverable and a date, so it ends. Weekly billing has no natural end, which is why a job that needs five hours can quietly cost a parent thirty. Monthly packages in this market are advertised at around AED 799 for eight online sessions, so divide any package by its teaching hours before comparing. Ask three things before paying: whether unused hours expire, whether a lesson can move at 24 hours' notice without charge, and whether VAT treatment has been stated in writing.

My child starts DP1 in September. When is the cheapest time to begin support?+

The summer before, and the saving is substantial. Six to twelve bridging hours in July and August, aimed at named topics from the MYP 5 or IGCSE report, close gaps that would otherwise need twelve to twenty hours in DP1 once Internal Assessment deadlines are also on the timetable. Mathematics is the clearest case: algebra and functions left unsecured will cost far more to repair in February of DP2. Demand and price both rise as the session approaches, so the February-to-April window is when slots are scarce and quotes are firmest across the whole UAE market.

Are group Diploma classes a reasonable substitute for one-to-one at half the price?+

For content coverage in a Standard Level subject, sometimes. For Higher Level option material, Internal Assessment work or anything diagnostic, rarely, because the pacing is set by the group rather than by your child's gaps. Centre packages advertised from AED 799 a month look efficient until you divide them by teaching hours and notice that individual coursework is not included. A workable hybrid is a group class for breadth plus a short one-to-one block for the component with the deadline. Check too what the drive to Al Quoz or Mussafah costs a school-night evening.

What questions should I ask before paying a deposit to a UAE tutoring provider?+

Six. Who exactly is teaching, and will I be told if that changes? Is the figure per hour or per lesson, and is a 50-minute lesson billed as an hour? Does the tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and valid for two years? What happens to unused hours, and what notice moves a lesson without charge? What will you not do with an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay? And what does the plan say this is for? Any provider calling itself regulator-approved should be asked to show the permit number.

Do we still pay for Arabic or Islamic Education help if the school already teaches it?+

Check what the school owes before paying anyone. Dubai private schools must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies alongside their licensed curriculum, with weekly instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups. KHDA also requires teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education to hold its approval, and prohibits different or additional content without prior Ministry permission. Families often fund an Arabic tutor when the report was actually flagging Arabic B inside the Diploma, which is a separate subject with separate assessment and a different kind of help.

My son is retaking two subjects in a November session. What does that add to the bill?+

Plan for a six-week intensive in each subject, roughly twenty to twenty-four hours in total, which at published rates of AED 200 to AED 300 an hour comes to about AED 4,800 to AED 7,200. On top sit the entry charges the examination centre makes for the session, which are the centre's fees and not a tutoring cost. Before booking anything, ask the school's IB coordinator which components carry forward from the first attempt and which must be submitted again, because that single answer can halve or double the hours you need.

Does the hourly rate change for a DP2 student in the weeks before the examinations?+

Rates themselves move less than availability does, but the effect on a family is the same. Every Diploma candidate in the Emirates wants the same ten weeks between January and the session, so the specialist slots fill, the flexible hours disappear, and what is left is often the wrong subject or the wrong time of day. Families who book a technique block in December pay the ordinary rate for the right tutor. Families who start looking in March pay the ordinary rate for whoever remains. Booking early is the discount available in this market.

Will an IB DP home tutor in the UAE come to our villa, or are the lessons online?+

IB Gram delivers UAE tuition one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with your child's script, criteria sheet and mark breakdown on a shared screen. We do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the Emirates; the in-home service is one we run only in India. The phrase home tutor is what parents search, so we target it honestly and then make the case on merit: no travel inside the fee, a lesson that can move the same evening, and a specialist chosen for the subject rather than for living nearby.

What happens to the money if the first tutor turns out not to be the right match?+

Nothing is paid before the free trial lesson, which exists precisely to test the fit on a real marked script rather than on a biography. If the trial does not work, the next step is a different tutor, not a conversation about commitment. After lessons begin, tell us early: a mismatch in week two is a rematch, while a mismatch left until week ten is wasted hours. We would rather re-point hours or stop a block than keep billing a plan the evidence has moved past.

Price the Diploma, then buy only the hours the evidence asks for

Start with the three documents: the last report, one marked mock with the markscheme beside it, and the coordinator's deadline list. They will tell you which of your child's nine Diploma commitments has recoverable marks and whether the job is content, a component or timing. Bring them to a free trial lesson spent on a real script, and the plan that comes back should name the hours, the target and the cost before you agree to anything. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, across every emirate, with no travel inside the fee and no tutor sent to a UAE address.
