IB MYP Home Tutor in the UAE

An IB MYP home tutor in the UAE is what parents type; what we actually run is one-to-one Middle Years Programme teaching over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Nobody is sent to a UAE address — home visits are a service IB Gram offers only in India. What that buys a family here is a teacher who can name the criterion your child's subject is marked against, rather than whoever happens to live a short drive from your community.

  • Every MYP subject is marked against four criteria, each out of eight
  • Lessons run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, never at a UAE address
  • Personal Project work is process coaching; the student writes every word
  • Every AED figure here is the market's, with its source and the month read

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The MYP is marked differently from everything around it

The Middle Years Programme is marked against criteria, not percentages. Every MYP subject carries four criteria, A to D, and each is marked out of eight. The school adds the four together, lands on a figure out of 32, and converts that to the 1 to 7 grade a parent sees on the report. That is why a child can revise hard, know the content, and still come home with a 4. The marks were not lost on knowledge; they were lost on the criterion the task was actually assessing. An IB MYP home tutor in the UAE who cannot name that criterion is guessing.

Around that sits a school system with two rulebooks. Your child's school answers to an emirate authority — KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah — or, in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, to the federal Ministry of Education. The Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, according to u.ae. The IB writes the MYP. The emirate decides how a school may run it and report it. A tutoring plan that ignores the second half of that sentence keeps colliding with it.

There is a third layer most MYP families meet in the second week of term. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required them in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They take real timetable minutes beside the eight MYP subject groups, they are reported on their own terms, and their content is fixed: using different or additional material without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited. An MYP child in Dubai is therefore carrying more subjects than the programme model shows, and the squeeze usually lands on Design, Arts and the Personal Project.

IB Gram matches that child with one teacher and runs the work as one-to-one MYP tuition online, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. Nobody is sent to a UAE address; home visits are a service we run only in India. The gain is not convenience, it is supply. An MYP Sciences teacher who has marked Criterion B several hundred times is a different hire from the nearest available graduate with a science degree. Every AED figure on this page belongs to the market, attributed and dated. MYP Personal Project support is process coaching, and the student writes every word of the report.

This page is built around the system rather than the pitch: what the criteria are, where the marks go, which authority decides what, what the UAE market charges, and what an MYP year looks like counted against a real school calendar.

At a glance

  • Four criteria per MYP subject, each marked out of 8, giving a total out of 32
  • KHDA mandatory subjects sit beside the eight MYP subject groups, not instead of them
  • Market rates for a visiting tutor run AED 180–500 an hour with travel inside the figure
  • MYP eAssessment is optional; many UAE schools award school-based MYP results instead
  • A Ministry of Education equivalency file is built from IGCSE, A-level or Diploma results, not from the MYP
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The MYP is five years long and does not feel like one programme from end to end. MYP 1 is a child learning what a criterion is; MYP 5 is a candidate running a Personal Project and, in some UAE schools, sitting on-screen examinations. These four phases ask for different teaching, which is why we match by phase and not simply by subject.

MYP 1–3Ages 11–14 · Years 7–9 · Grades 6–8

Middle Years Programme, the first three years

Students arrive from the PYP or from a national curriculum and meet criterion marking for the first time. Each subject reports four criteria out of eight, so a strong content recall can still produce a 4 if the investigation, the communication or the real-life application was thin. Interdisciplinary units begin. In MYP 3 most schools split mathematics into Standard and Extended, which is the first decision with a Diploma consequence attached.

In UAE schools this phase collides with the mandatory Ministry subjects, which arrive on the timetable at the same age. Families moving in from CBSE or an American system notice it most: the content load feels familiar, the marking does not. Ask the school for the assessment policy and for the subject-group criteria it reports, in writing, during the first term rather than at the first parents' evening.

MYP 4–5Ages 14–16 · Years 10–11 · Grades 9–10

Middle Years Programme, the final two years

Subject choices narrow, the criteria tighten, and the gap between a 5 and a 7 stops being about effort. Criterion D does most of the damage here: applying mathematics in real-life contexts, reflecting on the impacts of science, thinking critically in Individuals and Societies. MYP 5 also carries the Personal Project and, where the school uses it, MYP eAssessment in the May session.

Several UAE schools enter MYP 5 students for a small number of IGCSEs alongside the programme, which puts Cambridge or Pearson entry deadlines into an MYP year. Ask which board, how many subjects and who makes the entry. Those deadlines sit months before the papers and the school owns them, so a family that finds out in February has already lost the decision.

PPMYP 5 · Ages 15–16

The Personal Project

An independent piece of work with three criteria — Planning, Applying skills, Reflecting — each marked out of eight, moderated externally by the IB. The product matters less than the evidence: a process journal that shows decisions being made, success criteria that can actually be tested, and a report that reflects honestly on what went wrong. Most lost marks are evidential, not creative.

This is where UAE families are most often sold something they should refuse. Essay services in this market advertise finished coursework, and one competitor page in our research sells completed Internal Assessments outright. A tutor may teach what a criterion wants and ask the questions that expose a weak success criterion. A tutor who drafts, rewrites or finishes any part of it has put the student's whole MYP record at risk.

DPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

What the MYP feeds into

The Diploma Programme reuses MYP habits and then raises the technical floor. Analysis and Approaches expects algebraic fluency the MYP never demanded; the science Internal Assessment expects uncertainty handling that Criterion C only gestured at; Language A expects comparative work against a conceptual question. Students who were comfortable 6s in MYP 5 often see a 4 in the first DP1 report and read it as failure rather than recalibration.

The MYP 5 to DP1 transition is the single most common reason a UAE family contacts us about a 15-year-old. The useful window is the summer between the two years, and the work is specific — not revision, but the handful of technical gaps listed further down this page. Most families need between six and fourteen weeks of one-to-one time, depending on the subject group.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The MYP has eight subject groups and an interdisciplinary strand, and every one of them reports four criteria. What follows is what each group actually assesses and where UAE students lose the marks — which is rarely where parents expect.

Language and Literature

MYP 1–5

Criteria: Analysing, Organizing, Producing text, Using language. Marks go missing on Analysing, where students summarise a text instead of examining how the writer's choices create effect. Criterion D rewards register and accuracy, which is where strong readers who write loosely stall at a 5.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1–6

Criteria: Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing — the only group where the four criteria are the four skills. UAE schools place students in a phase rather than a year, so a child can sit in MYP 4 in Phase 2 French. Knowing the phase is the first thing a tutor needs.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1–5

Criteria: Knowing and understanding, Investigating, Communicating, Thinking critically. Criterion D is the usual gap: students describe sources rather than evaluate their origin, purpose and limitation. Criterion B asks for a research question narrow enough to answer, which few students have been taught to write.

Sciences

Integrated, then Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Criteria: Knowing and understanding, Inquiring and designing, Processing and evaluating, Reflecting on the impacts of science. MYP Sciences Criterion B is where UAE students bleed marks — a hypothesis with no scientific reasoning behind it, and variables that are listed rather than controlled.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended

Criteria: Knowing and understanding, Investigating patterns, Communicating, Applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B asks students to find a general rule and justify it; Criterion D asks them to defend a model's assumptions. Both are taught less than they are assessed.

Design

MYP 1–5

Criteria: Inquiring and analysing, Developing ideas, Creating the solution, Evaluating. The build is the part students enjoy and the smallest part of the mark. Specifications that cannot be tested and a plan with no evidence of following it are the two recurring losses.

Arts

Visual and performing

Criteria: Investigating, Developing, Creating or performing, Evaluating. The process portfolio carries more weight than the final piece, and students who work quickly often cannot show development. Evaluating against their own stated intentions is the criterion most often left half-written.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1–5

Criteria: Knowing and understanding, Planning for performance, Applying and performing, Reflecting and improving performance. Two of the four criteria are written work, which surprises sporty students and their parents. A training plan with no measurable targets loses Criterion B outright.

Interdisciplinary units

MYP 1–5

Criteria: Evaluating, Synthesizing, Reflecting. Assessed separately from the subject groups and often the lowest line on a UAE report, because nobody owns the teaching of it. Synthesising two disciplines into one explanation is a skill, not a by-product.

Arabic and the Ministry subjects

Beside the MYP timetable

Arabic as a first or additional language, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the programme under KHDA mandatory subjects rules. They are reported on the school's scheme, not against MYP subject-group criteria, and their content is set by the Ministry of Education.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways MYP families use us, and they are not interchangeable. A criterion problem, a Personal Project problem and a transition problem need different lesson shapes, different session lengths and different numbers of weeks.

Weekly one-to-one on a criterion cycle

One 60-minute lesson a week, built around the criterion the next summative task will report. The teacher works from the school's own task sheet and rubric, screen-shared, so the student practises on a parallel task rather than on the live one. Progress is measured in criterion bands, not in topics covered.

  • Session planned from the school's rubric, not a generic worksheet
  • Practice on a parallel task; the assessed task is never touched
  • A written summary after each lesson naming the criterion worked on
  • 45-minute option for MYP 1–3, where attention is the limiting factor

Personal Project process coaching

Short, spaced sessions across MYP 5 rather than a block before the deadline. The teacher reads what the student has written and asks the questions a moderator would: can this success criterion be tested, does the journal show the decision being made, does the reflection admit anything. MYP Personal Project support stops at the questions.

  • Criteria A to C explained with their mark allocations
  • Process journal reviewed for evidence, never supplied
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no proofreading into shape
  • A written record of what was discussed, for the school's academic-honesty declaration

The MYP 5 to DP1 bridge

Six to fourteen weeks over the summer, aimed at the specific technical gaps between an MYP subject group and the Diploma course it feeds. Usually two subjects, usually mathematics plus one science or one language. The point is to arrive in DP1 without the first six weeks being spent on algebra the MYP never required.

  • Gap list agreed from the student's MYP 5 criterion profile
  • Non-calculator algebraic fluency for Analysis and Approaches
  • Uncertainty and significant figures before the first science IA
  • Command terms at Diploma depth, which is where MYP habits break

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in the UAE

The teachers below work in the Middle Years Programme rather than teaching down to it from the Diploma. Ask any of them which criterion your child is losing marks on, and what the command term on the task sheet was. An MYP teacher answers that in one sentence. A general subject tutor usually asks to see the textbook first.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a UAE parent is actually asking for when they search for an MYP tutor

The search term is "home tutor" and the need underneath it is almost never geography. In the enquiries we take, the parent has a report in front of them with a 4 or a 5 beside a subject their child says they understand, and no explanation of the gap. That is a criterion problem, and it is solved by a teacher who knows the subject group's rubric, not by someone who can reach your community before 5pm.

The second thing behind the search is phase. An MYP 1 child who has just left the PYP needs to be taught what a criterion is. An MYP 3 child is choosing between Standard and Extended mathematics. An MYP 5 child is running a Personal Project and may be entered for a couple of IGCSEs on the side. Those are three different hires, and a provider who matches on subject alone will send the same person to all three.

So we answer the search honestly. One-to-one MYP tuition online, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the teacher chosen for the subject group and the phase. Nobody travels to a UAE address. A family searching for an IB MYP tutor in Dubai and a family in Fujairah doing the same search get the same shortlist from us, which is the practical difference an MYP online tutor makes in a country where the middle-years teacher pool is concentrated in two emirates. The table below maps the MYP year onto the school-year labels UAE schools actually print on reports, because British and American labelled schools in the same emirate number the same child differently, and a provider who asks for the year rather than the MYP phase will match on the wrong information.

How an MYP grade is built: four criteria, eight marks each, 32 in total

Every MYP subject group reports four criteria, labelled A to D, and each is marked out of eight against published descriptors. The school combines the four into a total out of 32 and converts that total to the 1 to 7 grade on the report. The conversion boundaries are published in the MYP's general grade descriptors and schools restate them in their own assessment policy, which is the document to ask for — the boundaries are the same across subjects, which is why a 24 in Sciences and a 24 in Design are the same grade.

Two consequences follow, and neither is obvious from a report card. First, criteria are not averaged across the year in most schools: the latest and best evidence against each criterion carries, so one weak task in September does not sink a June grade, and one strong task does not rescue a criterion never retested. Second, a single weak criterion costs the same as a weak subject. A student at 7, 7, 7 and 2 is on 23 out of 32 — a grade 5 — while a flat 6, 6, 6, 6 is 24 and a grade 6.

That arithmetic is the whole case for criterion-led teaching. The 32 MYP criterion marks tell you exactly where the hour should go, and they are printed on the report most parents file without reading. The table lists the four criteria for each subject group, as the current MYP subject guides name them, so you can match the letters on the report to what the task was testing.

Where MYP marks are actually lost, criterion by criterion

  • Sciences Criterion B: hypothesis without scientific reasoning; variables listed, not controlled
  • Mathematics Criterion B: pattern found, general rule asserted, justification missing
  • Individuals and Societies Criterion D: sources described rather than evaluated
  • Language and Literature Criterion A: summary of content in place of analysis of effect
  • Design Criterion A: a specification written so vaguely that it cannot be tested later
  • Every group: an "evaluate" task answered as an "explain" task

The pattern across UAE MYP cohorts is consistent enough to predict. Criterion A, knowing and understanding, is the one students revise for and the one they rarely fail. The losses concentrate in B and D — the investigative criterion and the application criterion — because both assess a skill that is assessed more often than it is taught. A child can be fluent in the content of a Sciences unit and still score 3 on Inquiring and designing because nobody showed them what a controlled variable section looks like when it is written properly.

In mathematics the losses are specific. Criterion B asks for a pattern, a general rule and a justification of that rule; students produce the first two and stop. Criterion D asks them to apply mathematics in a real-life context and then comment on whether the model's assumptions hold; students produce an answer with no reflection on the assumptions. In Individuals and Societies, Criterion D asks for evaluation of a source's origin, purpose and limitations, and what arrives is description with an adjective attached.

Command terms are the other recurring loss, and they cut across every group. "Describe", "explain", "analyse" and "evaluate" each instruct a marker to reward something different, and the descriptor language mirrors them. A student who answers an "evaluate" task with a very good "explain" answer is capped, however much they know. This is diagnosable in one lesson from a marked task and a rubric, which is why we ask for both before the first session rather than for a general account of how things are going.

04

The Personal Project, the Community Project and the line a paid tutor must not cross

The Personal Project is assessed against three criteria — Planning, Applying skills, Reflecting — each marked out of eight, and it is externally moderated. The Community Project, where a school runs it in MYP 3 or 4, works the same way at a smaller scale. Both are student-owned by design, which makes them the components a UAE family is most likely to be offered illegitimate help with. Our research found a page in this market selling completed Internal Assessments outright at AED 3,750; the same business model reaches down into MYP coursework.

What a tutor may do is substantial and worth paying for. Explain what each criterion rewards and what its mark allocation is. Ask whether a success criterion can actually be tested, which is the question that most improves a weak project. Teach the student how to keep a process journal that shows a decision being made rather than a diary of activity. Read a reflection and say, without touching it, that it does not yet admit anything went wrong — which is where Criterion C marks live.

What a tutor must never do is produce any of it. No drafting, no rewriting, no editing to completion, no proofreading a report into shape, no building any part of the product. Your child's coordinator will ask them to declare outside support, and a truthful declaration of criterion coaching is routine. A declaration that cannot be made truthfully is a malpractice investigation, and the sanction lands on the student, not on the person who was paid. Keep a written record of what each session covered; it makes the declaration easy.

Which authority licensed your child's MYP school, and what it reaches into

Private schools in the UAE are regulated emirate by emirate, and the differences are not cosmetic. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah and the Department of Knowledge does so in Ras Al Khaimah, while the Ministry of Education plays the supervisory role in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. All of that is stated on u.ae.

For an MYP family the operative clause is what each body approves rather than what it inspects. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Assessment methods are how the school converts criterion marks into the grade on your child's report. Federally, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations — which is the rule behind every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

Two practical consequences. An inspection report is a document about teaching quality across phases, so read the middle-years judgements rather than the Diploma headline a school markets on; a school with strong Diploma outcomes can still be weak in MYP 4 Design. And a tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific thing with initial approval, a six-month completion window and annual renewal. IB Gram holds no regulator approval, accreditation or licence of any kind, and any provider telling you otherwise should be asked for the permit number.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies beside the MYP timetable

The MYP has eight subject groups. A Dubai MYP student carries those plus the Ministry subjects, because Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required them in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year — April 2026 for schools whose year starts in April. KHDA calculates the required instructional time in 40-minute lesson units, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that no mandatory-subject lesson runs under 25 minutes.

The organisational rules are specific, and they explain something parents often query. Schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies; combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students; the school's licensed-curriculum language is used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold appropriate KHDA approval.

This changes what outside help can honestly offer. For the mandatory subjects, using any different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited — so a tutor works through the school's own material, practising reading, script and written answers, and does not import a parallel syllabus. These subjects are reported on the school's scheme rather than against MYP subject-group criteria, which is why they appear on a UAE report in a different format from the eight groups and are easy to overlook until the grade arrives.

MYP 5 into DP1: the gaps that actually bite

The MYP is not light preparation for the Diploma, but it is differently shaped, and the mismatch is technical rather than general. MYP mathematics rewards investigation and modelling; Analysis and Approaches opens with algebraic manipulation done without a calculator. MYP Sciences rewards designing an inquiry; the Diploma Internal Assessment expects uncertainty propagation and significant-figure discipline from the first draft. MYP Language and Literature rewards analysis of a single text; Language A expects comparison driven by a conceptual question. None of that is a step in difficulty so much as a step in specificity.

Which is why the first DP1 report shocks families who had a comfortable MYP 5. A student who held 6s across four criteria can see a 4 in November of DP1 and read it as collapse, when what has happened is recalibration against a different scale. The useful response is not more hours; it is the right eight hours on the named gap. A student whose MYP Extended mathematics profile shows a strong Criterion B and a weak Criterion A almost always needs fluency work, not more investigation work.

The summer between MYP 5 and DP1 is the window, and the MYP 5 to DP1 transition is the most common reason a UAE family with a 15-year-old contacts us. Six to fourteen weeks, usually two subjects, built from the student's own criterion profile rather than a generic bridging course. The table below is the map we work from, including the number of weeks each gap has typically taken with one 60-minute lesson a week.

MYP eAssessment, school-based results, and what the Ministry looks at later

MYP eAssessment is optional, and a great many UAE schools do not use it. Where a school does, MYP 5 students sit on-screen examinations in subjects such as Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and interdisciplinary learning, and submit externally moderated ePortfolios in Language Acquisition, Arts, Design and Physical and Health Education, with the Personal Project moderated alongside. Where a school does not, MYP 5 results are school-based and internally standardised. Ask which, because it changes the whole shape of the final MYP year.

Sessions run in May and in November. We do not publish IB session or results dates on this site: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so every date in circulation is second-hand, and an MYP calendar built on a wrong date costs a family more than a missing one. Your child's MYP coordinator holds the real dates, and any certificate requirement — the number of results needed and the minimum total — should be confirmed with them or on ibo.org rather than taken from a tutoring page, including this one.

The thing to understand about Ministry of Education equivalency is that the MYP does not feed it. Equivalency is built later, from terminal certificates. On the British track, as reported in July 2026, a student must show five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education not counted among the five, plus one A-level at no less than E or two AS-levels at the same grade. One competitor page in this market publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong. No IB points figure appears in that source, so we publish none — verify on moe.gov.ae before you plan around any number.

What MYP tutoring costs in the UAE market, and who publishes what

Three of the six best-ranking pages for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. The figures below are the market's, read in October 2026, with the source named — they are not IB Gram's price list, and nothing on this page is an offer. Middle-years rates generally sit a band below Diploma rates, which is the one piece of good news in the table: an MYP family is buying at AED 150–300 an hour where a Diploma Higher Level family is quoted AED 200–450 and upwards.

Monthly packages are where the market gets confusing. Published UAE offers include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599–1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table estimates AED 240–600 a month for a weekly hour at the budget end, AED 600–1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000–2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Compare on cost per hour of teaching, not on the monthly headline, and check what a package does with an unused session.

Set it beside the school fee to see the real proportion. Dubai had 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, and KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no fee increase for 2026-27 under Dubai's second economic incentives package. For most MYP families the tutoring decision is a few thousand dirhams a year against a fee that is holding flat — which argues for buying fewer, better-targeted hours rather than a standing weekly commitment in every weak subject.

A tutor travelling to a UAE address, against one-to-one MYP tuition online

The honest version of this comparison starts with what the visiting model is good at. A teacher in the room reads a 12-year-old's body language better over video, can take a pen to a page without screen-sharing it, and removes the question of whether the child is actually working. For MYP 1 and MYP 2 students with an attention problem rather than a criterion problem, that is a genuine advantage and worth saying out loud.

What it costs is a two-hour minimum and a tutor pool defined by driving distance. Market rates of AED 180–500 an hour carry travel inside them, and the economics push providers towards longer sessions than a middle-years child can use well. The deeper cost is selection: in an emirate with a limited MYP cohort, the set of people who can reach your community before 5pm and also know what Sciences Criterion B wants is often empty. An Al Ain or Fujairah family looking for MYP Extended mathematics is rarely choosing between candidates at all.

IB Gram resolves that by not competing on proximity. Lessons run over live video, 45 or 60 minutes, with the school's rubric and task sheet shared on screen and a written summary afterwards. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and no UAE page of ours will tell you otherwise. For an MYP 1 attention problem a visiting teacher may genuinely be the better buy, and we would rather say that than sell you the wrong thing; for a criterion problem in any of the eight subject groups, the teacher's knowledge of the rubric decides the outcome and their postcode does not. The table sets the two models side by side on the things a parent is actually weighing.

The MYP year counted against a UAE school calendar

An MYP year has its own rhythm and it does not match the exam-season rhythm parents know from the Diploma. There is no single terminal series to count backwards from unless the school uses eAssessment or enters MYP 5 students for IGCSEs. What there is instead is a sequence of summative tasks, each reporting specific criteria, plus the Personal Project running underneath MYP 5 from the autumn. Starting support in April because a report was poor in March is starting after the criteria that produced it were already reported.

Where board examinations do enter an MYP year, the published deadlines are months ahead of the papers and the school owns them. The Cambridge March 2027 series is the cleanest worked example: the exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027, final entries were due 27 November 2026 and forecast grades 27 February 2027. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and says it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November series, with the November 2026 timetable finishing on 19 November 2026.

Ramadan moves revision rather than removing it. Evening sessions after Iftar work better than tired afternoon ones, and in practice families shift a weekly slot by two or three hours for the month and keep the cadence. School holidays are the other planning point: the summer between MYP 5 and DP1 is the most productive block in the five years, and the winter break is when a Personal Project either gets ahead or quietly stalls.

Where we tutor

Where MYP families are, emirate by emirate

MYP provision is not spread evenly across the UAE. Dubai and Abu Dhabi hold most of the IB continuum schools; the northern emirates have a handful, and a thinner pool of experienced MYP teachers to go with them. Online delivery is what flattens that difference, which is the honest reason we work this way.

Dubai

227 private schools and 17 curricula in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate programmes accounting for 7% of the roll (Dubai Media Office, January 2025). Most UAE MYP continuum schools sit here, and so does most of the competition for their teachers.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK licenses and accredits the private schools here. Its professional-ethics rules for school staff reach into paid private tutoring, which changes who may legitimately teach your child outside school hours.

Al Ain

Also ADEK, not KHDA — a point families moving from Dubai get wrong. Fewer MYP cohorts, so an Al Ain family looking for a Design or Phase 4 Spanish teacher is almost always looking outside the city.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Assessment-method approval is the clause that matters to an MYP family: how the school reports criteria is not purely the school's call.

Ajman

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority. Fewer MYP places, and most enquiries here involve a child commuting to a Sharjah or Dubai school.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education and, like Sharjah, approves curricula and assessment methods. A new MYP cohort needs that approval before it can run, which is why provision grows slowly here.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education supervision and very little MYP provision on the east coast. Online one-to-one teaching is not a convenience here; for an MYP 4 Extended mathematics student it is often the only route to a specialist.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under Ministry of Education supervision, and the emirate named by none of the competitor pages in our research. Families usually travel to Sharjah for an IB school and do everything else over video.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai holds the densest group of IB continuum schools in the country, which is also why its MYP teachers are the most heavily recruited. Seven new private schools open for 2026-27 — four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate — adding 16,846 places (KHDA, 2026).

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK territory, with a smaller MYP cohort than Dubai and a tighter staffing market. Its professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar paid tutoring of students at a teacher's own school, so the convenient option is often the one to decline.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report and one marked task

Not a description of how things are going. A recent report showing the criterion letters, plus one marked summative task with its rubric. That pair tells an MYP teacher in ten minutes what three conversations would not, and it is enough to decide whether tutoring is even the right purchase.

  2. 02

A 15-minute call about phase, not subject

Which MYP year, which school and emirate, whether mathematics has split into Standard and Extended, whether the school uses eAssessment, and whether any IGCSEs are being sat alongside MYP 5. We also ask what the school has already put in place, because paying for a repeat of it is common.

  3. 03

Matched to a subject group, not a subject

An MYP Sciences teacher, a Language Acquisition teacher who works at the right phase, a Design teacher who has moderated Criterion A. If nobody with that profile is free in the week you want to start, we say so and give a date rather than sending whoever is available.

  4. 04

A first lesson with a written outcome

The teacher works from your child's own rubric and task, and the summary afterwards names the criteria to target, the number of weeks it is likely to take, and anything that does not need paid help at all. You decide after reading it, and the conditions of the first lesson are stated before it is booked.

  5. 05

Review against criterion bands, not vibes

Every four to six weeks we look at the criterion letters on the next reported task. Going up on B and D is the point. If the bands are flat after a fair run, the match or the diagnosis was wrong, and changing teacher is the right answer rather than adding hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the criterion, not the postcode

The constraint in a visiting arrangement is drive time; the constraint in an MYP problem is whether the teacher knows what Inquiring and designing rewards. Teaching over live video removes the first constraint entirely, which is the only reason we can solve the second one in Fujairah as readily as in Dubai.

The school's own material, on screen

Lessons run from your child's rubric, task sheet and unit planner rather than a generic worksheet pack. For the Ministry subjects this is also a rule: using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited, so a tutor who imports a parallel syllabus is working outside it.

A stated line on coursework

Criterion coaching, questions and feedback on the student's own work. No drafting, no editing to completion, no proofreading into shape, and a written record of each session so the academic-honesty declaration your child signs is easy to make truthfully.

Figures with a source and a date

Every AED band on this page is attributed to a UAE provider price page or to the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026, and presented as the market rather than as our price. No invented statistics, no self-awarded ratings, no claim of regulator approval we do not hold.

Honest about what we do not have

No UAE office. No regulator licence. No IB session dates, because ibo.org cannot be checked automatically and a wrong date is worse than a missing one. If no MYP specialist for your subject group is free, you get a date instead of a substitute, and you can wait or go elsewhere.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What is the MYP, and how is it different from the Diploma my older child sits?+

The Middle Years Programme covers five years, roughly ages 11 to 16, and sits between the PYP and the Diploma. The difference that matters day to day is the marking. The Diploma reports examination grades and internally assessed components; the MYP reports four criteria per subject, each out of eight, and converts the total out of 32 into a 1 to 7 grade. So a Diploma parent reads a percentage and an MYP parent reads criterion letters. The same child can look strong in one system and middling in the other without anything about them having changed.

My son is in MYP 3 and his report shows letters instead of percentages. What do they mean?+

Those letters are the four assessment criteria for each subject group, A to D, and each is marked out of eight against published descriptors. In Sciences, for example, A is knowing and understanding, B is inquiring and designing, C is processing and evaluating, and D is reflecting on the impacts of science. The letters tell you precisely what was being tested, which a percentage never does. A 7 on A beside a 3 on B is not a weak scientist; it is a student who has never been taught to write a controlled-variables section properly.

How do 32 criterion marks turn into the 1 to 7 grade on an MYP report?+

The school adds the four criterion marks, each out of eight, to a total out of 32, then applies the MYP general grade boundaries to convert that total to a grade from 1 to 7. The boundaries are the same across every subject group, which is why totals are comparable between Design and Mathematics. Schools restate them in their own assessment policy, so ask for that document rather than relying on a summary. The arithmetic matters: 7, 7, 7, 2 is 23 marks and a lower grade than a flat 6, 6, 6, 6 on 24.

Can a tutor help with the Personal Project without breaking IB academic-honesty rules?+

Yes, and the useful help is narrower than most families expect. A teacher may explain what criteria A to C reward and how the marks are allocated, ask whether a success criterion can actually be tested, show what a process journal entry needs to evidence, and say that a reflection does not yet admit anything went wrong. A teacher may not draft, rewrite, edit to completion, proofread into shape or build any part of the product. Your child declares outside support to their coordinator, so keep a written record of what each session covered.

Does the MYP produce a certificate the UAE Ministry of Education will attest?+

No. Equivalency is built from terminal certificates, not from middle-years results. On the British track, as reported in July 2026, the Ministry looks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one A-level at no less than E or two AS-levels at the same grade. No IB points figure appears in that source, so we publish none. Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate before planning around any number.

Which MYP subject groups do UAE families ask for help with most often?+

Mathematics first, usually at the point where MYP 3 splits into Standard and Extended and the route decision arrives before the family understands its Diploma consequences. Sciences second, almost always on Criterion B. Then Language and Literature, where strong readers lose Criterion A marks by summarising rather than analysing. Design and the interdisciplinary units generate fewer enquiries and more surprise, because both are commonly the lowest line on a report and neither has an obvious owner in most school timetables.

Is MYP mathematics split into Standard and Extended, and which should my child take?+

Most schools split it in MYP 3 or MYP 4. Extended carries additional content and is the usual route into Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Diploma level; Standard leads more naturally to Applications and Interpretation. The decision should be made on the criterion profile, not on ambition. A student strong on Criterion A and weak on Criterion B can usually cope with Extended content with support; a student weak on A will find Extended compounds the gap. Ask the school what the movement rules are between the two before choosing.

What does MYP eAssessment involve, and does my child's UAE school even use it?+

It is optional, and many UAE schools do not use it. Where a school does, MYP 5 students sit on-screen examinations in groups such as Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and interdisciplinary learning, and submit externally moderated ePortfolios in Language Acquisition, Arts, Design and Physical and Health Education, with the Personal Project moderated too. Where a school does not, MYP 5 results are school-based and internally standardised. Ask the coordinator directly, because it changes what the final MYP year is actually building towards.

My daughter moves from MYP 5 into DP1 next August. What should we fix first?+

Her criterion profile tells you. For Analysis and Approaches the usual gap is non-calculator algebraic fluency and the language of proof, which takes eight to twelve weeks of weekly one-to-one work. For a science the gap is uncertainty, significant figures and data processing of the kind the Internal Assessment demands. For Language A it is comparative analysis against a conceptual question. Pick two subjects, not five, and use the summer. The first DP1 report often drops a grade against MYP 5, and that is recalibration rather than collapse.

Does my child still take Arabic and Islamic Education inside an MYP timetable?+

In Dubai, yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required them in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They sit beside the eight MYP subject groups rather than replacing any of them, and KHDA calculates the required time in 40-minute lesson units while advising that no mandatory-subject lesson runs under 25 minutes. They are reported on the school's own scheme, not against MYP subject-group criteria.

Why is the Arabic class split between Arab and non-Arab students at my child's school?+

Because KHDA requires it. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited, since the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; non-Arab students are taught Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold appropriate KHDA approval.

What does an MYP home tutor charge in the UAE, and what does online cost instead?+

Published UAE rates for a visiting tutor run AED 180–500 an hour with travel inside the figure, according to the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, usually with a two-hour minimum. Qualified subject tutors working online are published at AED 150–300, and programme specialists at AED 200–450 and upwards. Monthly offers seen in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599–1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices; ours are quoted after the first lesson.

Does an MYP tutor need a UAE permit, and how do I check they hold one?+

Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask to see the permit, and check the official route on the MoHRE private tutor licensing service page rather than taking a website's word for it.

Can my child's own MYP teacher at school tutor them privately for a fee?+

In Abu Dhabi, no. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That is press-reported, so confirm it against the current ADEK policy document. The arrangement is usually a bad idea anyway: the person who sets and marks the assessment should not also be paid to prepare your child for it.

How does Ramadan change when MYP revision actually happens?+

It moves the time of day rather than the amount of work. Families generally shift a weekly slot to after Iftar, where an hour of criterion work lands better than a tired afternoon session during fasting, and keep the same cadence through the month. Because lessons run over live video, moving a slot by two or three hours costs nothing and needs no travel rethink. Plan around it in advance if a summative task or a Personal Project checkpoint falls inside the month, since those dates will not move.

No MYP Design teacher was free when we asked. What happens then?+

You get a date, not a substitute. Design, the interdisciplinary units and Language Acquisition at the higher phases are the thinnest parts of the UAE middle-years pool, and an emirate with a small MYP cohort makes that worse. We will say which week a teacher with the right profile is likely to be free, and you can wait, start with a different subject group, or go elsewhere. Sending a general subject tutor to a Criterion A problem in Design wastes your money and tells us nothing useful about the student.

What does the first lesson cost, and what conditions come with it?+

The first one-to-one lesson is free and runs to 45 or 60 minutes depending on the MYP phase. The conditions are stated before you book: one free lesson per student, with the subject group and phase agreed in advance, no card details taken to arrange it, and the lesson delivered over live video like every other. What you receive afterwards is a written summary naming the criteria to target and an estimate of the weeks involved. There is no obligation to continue, and no fee is charged if you do not.

Start from the report, not from the search term

If you are looking for an IB MYP home tutor in the UAE, the fastest useful step is not a shortlist of providers. It is to pull out the latest report, find the criterion letters beside the weak subject, and get hold of one marked task with its rubric. That pair tells an MYP teacher what the problem is, and often tells you that the problem is one criterion rather than a subject. Send it over and we will match a teacher to that subject group and phase, run the first lesson over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and put in writing what we think the work actually is — including when it is less than you feared.
