IB Maths Tutor in DAMAC Hills 2

An IB maths tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 is only the right tutor if they teach your child's actual course. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are separate syllabuses with separate papers, and at Higher Level they diverge sharply. IB Gram matches by course and level, teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and fits the slot around your Dubailand school run.

  • Matched to AA or AI, at HL or SL, before anybody is proposed

IB & IGCSE in DAMAC Hills 2

Which IB maths course is your child actually sitting?

This is the question that decides whether a maths tutor is useful or merely competent, and a surprising number of DAMAC Hills 2 parents do not know the answer. The IB runs two mathematics courses at two levels each. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, at Higher and Standard Level, is the algebraic and proof-oriented route. Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, also at both levels, is the modelling, statistics and technology-oriented route. They are not a harder and an easier version of the same thing. They are different syllabuses with different papers.

A tutor who teaches AA HL fluently and is handed an AI SL student will teach correct mathematics in the wrong proportions. They will reach for proof where the course wants a model, and for algebraic manipulation where the course wants a sensible use of the graphical calculator. The student will learn things. They will not necessarily learn the things their paper will ask for. So the first thing we establish, before proposing anybody, is which of the four routes your child is on.

The second question out here is the clock. DAMAC Hills 2 sits along the Al Qudra corridor and almost every Diploma student in the community is driven to school somewhere else — Motor City, Dubai Sports City, or deeper into the city for a specific IB programme. A day ending at half three becomes a 4:30pm arrival home once afternoon traffic on Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is counted. A tutor who still has to drive here turns that into a half six start with a tired student.

IB Gram removes the travel from both ends. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE — in-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. So a session can begin at 4:30pm for a Year 12 student, or at 8pm for a Year 13 student who works late anyway and is sharpest once the house is quiet. Both of those are better hours than any visiting arrangement can offer from this community.

The pool matters as much as the hour. Dubai had 387,441 private-school pupils in 2024-25 across 227 schools, with the IB at roughly 7% of enrolment spread across the whole emirate, and only the final two years sitting the Diploma. Narrow that to Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and you have a small citywide cohort of students and a smaller group of teachers who have taken that course to final grade. The chance that one of them lives near DAMAC Hills 2 with a free Tuesday evening is not high.

The rest of this page is the detail that makes a maths tutoring decision sensible: how the two courses differ, what each paper is worth, where the marks actually go, what the Exploration is assessed on, and what the Dubai market charges with every figure attributed.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB mathematics runs as a continuum, and the help that works at each stage is different. These are the stages we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 families, with what each actually demands.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme mathematics

Mathematics in the PYP sits inside units of inquiry and is assessed continuously by the class teacher rather than by examination. Number sense, pattern, measurement and the ability to explain a method in words are the real outputs. A child who can compute but cannot explain looks weaker here than their arithmetic suggests.

DAMAC Hills 2 families arriving from a drill-based system often meet this as a shock: the child is quick at calculation and marked down for not showing reasoning. The fix is explanation practice rather than more sums, and it is far cheaper to do at nine than at sixteen.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme mathematics

Marked against four criteria on a 0-8 scale: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B rewards generalising from a pattern and justifying it, which is unlike anything in a traditional maths exam, and criterion C marks the quality of mathematical communication rather than the answer.

The MYP criteria are the honest preparation for whichever Diploma maths route follows. Criterion B work maps onto Analysis and Approaches thinking; criterion D maps onto Applications and Interpretation. A student strong in B and weak in D, or the reverse, has already told you something useful about the Year 11 choice.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Two courses at two levels. Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic methods, proof and calculus. Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and the use of technology. Both carry an Exploration worth 20% of the grade. Higher Level adds a third written paper and substantially more content than Standard Level in both courses.

The choice between AA and AI is made at the end of Year 11 and it has consequences for university applications that are not always explained at the time. Some engineering and mathematics degrees specify AA, and some specify Higher Level. Decide against the intended degree rather than against which course looks more comfortable in Year 11.

BridgeAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

The IGCSE or MYP to Diploma bridge

The single largest step in IB mathematics. A student arriving from IGCSE Extended or MYP maths into AA HL meets a jump in algebraic demand, abstraction and pace within the first term. Students who were comfortable at 16 can be genuinely struggling by November of Year 12, which is a curriculum step rather than a decline in ability.

We see more DAMAC Hills 2 enquiries at this transition than at any other point. The useful intervention is a short summer or first-term block on algebraic fluency, functions and trigonometric identities, before the Year 12 content has built two storeys on an unstable foundation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB mathematics routes and components we cover for DAMAC Hills 2 students, with the specific place marks go in each. Availability varies by level and term and is confirmed at the trial lesson.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

The most demanding route in IB maths. Proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers, vectors, and calculus well beyond Standard Level. Paper 3 is an extended problem-solving paper that rewards sustained reasoning. Students with small algebraic weaknesses find them exposed within a term rather than a year.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus and probability without the HL extensions or Paper 3. Marks are lost most often in calculus application questions and in the unstructured parts of Paper 2 where no scaffold indicates which technique is wanted.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Modelling and statistics taken seriously, plus matrices, graph theory and complex numbers, which surprises students who chose AI expecting less abstraction. Paper 3 demands extended modelling with technology. Statistical vocabulary is the commonest gap.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Modelling, descriptive and inferential statistics, financial mathematics and confident calculator use. The usual failure is choosing it as the lighter option and then meeting regression and hypothesis testing without any statistical language to think in.

The Exploration

HL and SL, both courses

The internal assessment, worth 20% of the final grade in every IB maths course. Assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. The commonest failure is strong mathematics with no genuine personal engagement, which caps the mark regardless of the algebra.

Calculus

HL and SL, mainly AA

Differentiation and integration techniques, kinematics, related rates and, at HL, differential equations and Maclaurin series. Students can usually differentiate and struggle to recognise which technique a worded problem requires, which is a pattern-recognition gap rather than a knowledge gap.

Statistics and probability

HL and SL, mainly AI

Distributions, correlation, regression, hypothesis testing and, at AI HL, more advanced inference. The marks are in interpretation: a student who can produce a p-value and cannot say what it means about the claim will lose most of the available credit.

Proof and algebraic technique

AA HL and SL

Induction, contradiction, algebraic manipulation of rational and surd expressions, binomial expansion and identities. This is the foundation layer, and it is where almost every AA student who is struggling in Year 13 actually needs the work rather than in the topic they named.

Graphical calculator technique

All routes, especially AI

Both courses assume fluent use of the permitted technology, and students lose marks daily on avoidable things: wrong window settings, failing to state the model they fitted, or doing by hand what the calculator was there for. This is quick to fix and rarely taught explicitly.

MYP mathematics criteria work

Years 7-11

Criterion-by-criterion support against knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Working to the criteria rather than to a general grade is the only honest preparation for either Diploma route.

IGCSE and Additional Mathematics bridging

Year 11 into Year 12

A short, targeted block on the algebra, functions and trigonometry that AA HL assumes and IGCSE does not fully build. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 covers some of it; students who did not take it arrive with a visible gap.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways DAMAC Hills 2 families use IB maths tutoring, all online over live video. The right one depends on whether the problem is foundations, technique or the Exploration.

Weekly course support, same tutor

A fixed slot following your child's school scheme of work rather than a textbook order, with the tutor closing gaps in the week they appear. Over a two-year Diploma this is what produces a grade rather than a recovery, and it is the mode in which a tutor learns which mistakes are habits.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes weekly in a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Matched to AA or AI at the correct level
  • Paced against the school's current topic, not a generic sequence
  • Reviews framed by paper and by assessment objective

Algebraic foundations block

A short, specific run on the layer underneath the course: algebraic manipulation, functions, trigonometric identities, and the pattern recognition that decides which technique a worded problem needs. Most Year 13 students who say calculus is the problem actually need this, and six to ten sessions usually settles it.

  • Diagnostic first, on real questions rather than a textbook test
  • Six to ten sessions with a named topic list as the scope
  • Best used in the summer before Year 12 or early in Year 12
  • Also the right block for an IGCSE to AA HL bridge

Exploration coaching

Process support on the internal assessment that carries 20% of the grade. The tutor helps find a topic with genuine personal engagement and workable mathematics, checks the mathematics is at the right level for the course, and gives feedback against the criteria on a draft the student has written. Every word and every calculation stays the student's own.

  • Topic narrowed until both the maths and the engagement are real
  • Mathematical level checked against the course, not against ambition
  • Feedback mapped to the published criteria and their mark allocations
  • No writing, no supplied calculations, no editing to a finish

01

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?

This choice is made at the end of Year 11 and it is the most consequential maths decision in the Diploma. It is often made on the wrong basis — which course the student finds more comfortable now, or which their friends are taking — rather than on what the intended degree expects. Reversing it after the first term of Year 12 is possible in some schools and painful in all of them.

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic route. Proof, functions, calculus, and at Higher Level proof by induction and contradiction, complex numbers and vectors. It rewards a student who likes manipulating symbols and following an argument. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling route. Statistics, regression, financial mathematics, and at Higher Level matrices and graph theory. It rewards a student who likes real data and is comfortable with technology.

The pitfall is treating AI as the easy option. It is not easier; it is different. AI Standard Level students who chose it to avoid difficulty regularly meet hypothesis testing and regression with no statistical vocabulary and find it harder than the algebra they were avoiding. AI Higher Level, meanwhile, contains matrices, graph theory and complex numbers, which is a genuine surprise to anyone who picked it expecting less abstraction.

The university question is the one to resolve first. Some mathematics, physics and engineering degrees specify Analysis and Approaches, and many specify Higher Level in a mathematics course. Check the actual published entry requirements of the actual universities your child is considering, including UAE institutions, before the choice is made rather than after. The table below sets out what each route involves so the conversation can be concrete.

What each paper is worth, and where the marks go

Students revise topics. Examiners mark papers. Those are not the same organising principle, and a student who knows the content but has never thought about paper structure will underperform what they know.

Every IB maths route has written papers plus the Exploration at 20%. Higher Level adds a third paper that Standard Level does not sit, and that paper is a different kind of task: longer, less scaffolded, and rewarding sustained reasoning across a single extended problem rather than quick recall across many. Students meet it late in the course and often meet it unprepared, because school practice naturally concentrates on the papers that exist at both levels.

The paper-by-paper losses are consistent. On the non-calculator paper, arithmetic slips and incomplete algebraic manipulation. On the calculator paper, failing to state a model or a method, so the marks for reasoning are unavailable even when the answer is right. On HL Paper 3, abandoning a question after the first unfamiliar part rather than working the later parts that were accessible. Each of those is a technique fault with a specific fix, and none of them is solved by learning more content.

The table below is the structure to plan practice around. The last column is the useful one: it names the thing to actually work on, which is almost never the topic the student says is the problem.

Notation is the quiet one on that list. Marks for correct mathematical communication are available on every component and are lost habitually rather than dramatically: a symbol used without definition, a line of working with no equals sign, an answer given to a precision the question did not ask for. Across a full paper that adds up to a meaningful fraction of a grade boundary, and unlike content it can be fixed in a fortnight.

03

The Exploration: twenty per cent, and the part nobody coaches properly

A fifth of the final maths grade comes from a piece of independent work, and it is assessed on criteria most students never read carefully. That combination makes the Exploration the single most recoverable block of marks in the course, and also the one most commonly left until it is too late to recover.

The criteria reward presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Note what is not on that list: difficulty for its own sake. A student who takes a topic they genuinely care about and handles it with mathematics appropriate to their course will outscore a student who attempts something ambitious, half understands it, and shows no sign of caring. We see the second pattern constantly, usually from strong students who assumed harder meant better.

Personal engagement is where DAMAC Hills 2 students lose the most. It cannot be added at the end; it has to be visible in the choice of question and in the way the work is conducted. Reflection is the next biggest loss — written as a summary of what was done rather than as genuine evaluation of what the mathematics showed and what its limitations were.

What a tutor can do here is coach and only coach. Help find a topic with real engagement and workable mathematics. Check the mathematical level fits the course. Explain what each criterion asks for and what it is worth. Read a draft the student has written and give feedback against the criteria. What a tutor may not do is write any of it, supply the calculations, rewrite the prose, or edit it to a finish. The student signs a declaration that the work is their own.

Fitting maths sessions into a DAMAC Hills 2 week

  • Maths needs a slot where the student can still think, not whichever hour is free
  • Year 12: usually 4:30pm, straight off the school run
  • Year 13: usually 8pm, ninety minutes, for full paper sections with marking
  • Weekend mornings suit maths better than scattered weekday hours

Maths is the subject families most often try to tutor at the wrong hour, because it is the one they worry about most and so they book whatever slot is available. That is a mistake with maths specifically, because the work is cognitively dense: a tired student can read a history chapter and absorb something, and cannot follow a calculus derivation at all.

The timetable out here is tight. A school day ending at half three in Motor City or Dubai Sports City means a 4:30pm arrival home once the afternoon traffic is counted; from an inner-city IB school it is closer to five. Because nobody is driving to you, a session can start at 4:30pm, which for a Year 12 student is usually the best available hour. For a Year 13 student the better slot is often 8pm or 8:30pm, ninety minutes long, once the house is quiet and a full paper section plus marking can be done without rushing.

There is a third option that DAMAC Hills 2 families underuse: weekend mornings. Two hours on a Friday or Saturday morning is worth more for maths than three separate weekday hours, because the subject rewards sustained work on one thread. During a term with an Exploration deadline it is often the only honest answer, and it competes with nothing.

What we try to avoid is the slot that moves. A maths arrangement that drifts — cancelled, rescheduled, cancelled — loses continuity faster than any other subject, because each session builds directly on the last. Pick the window, protect it, and plan the Ramadan change deliberately rather than discovering it.

What IB maths tutoring costs in this market

Published Dubai rates, read from provider pages in October 2026. Budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33-65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65. Qualified online subject tutors run AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai research giving the specialist band as AED 200-450 plus. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

In-home visits are published at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate and UAE home-tutor listings. Monthly packages in the market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home two-hour sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour are AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work.

For maths specifically there is a clear place where money is wasted, and it is the bottom band. A budget generalist can genuinely help a Year 8 student with homework. Handed an AA HL student in Year 13, they will teach plausible mathematics that is not the course, and the term will pass pleasantly with no change in the paper performance. That is the most common expensive mistake in this market, and it is expensive precisely because it felt cheap.

All figures belong to the providers named beside them. None is an IB Gram price — we publish no rate card on these pages, because the honest number depends on the route, the level and the weeks remaining. Take the free trial lesson and get a quote from the consultation.

The Diploma maths year, counted backwards

UAE schools sit the Diploma in the May session, and a maths year planned backwards from there looks different from one planned forwards. Almost everything that decides the grade has an internal school deadline months earlier, and the Exploration is the clearest example: it is worth 20% and it is finished long before any exam revision begins.

One honesty note. The IB's own site blocks automated retrieval, so no IB exam or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org. We write about the May session as the one UAE schools sit and publish no specific date. Get exact dates from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org, which are the only sources worth planning around. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published and we use them: Cambridge runs June and November series, with February/March offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

The backwards sequence for maths runs roughly like this. Course and level chosen at the end of Year 11, against the intended degree. Algebraic foundations secured early in Year 12, because everything afterwards sits on them. Exploration topic chosen in the second half of Year 12, while there is still time for it to be a good topic rather than an available one. Exploration drafted and finished to the school's internal deadline. Mocks. Then a final term that is almost entirely paper technique, including HL Paper 3 if the student sits it.

The practical consequence for a DAMAC Hills 2 family is that the best time to start maths tutoring is early Year 12 and the worst is March of Year 13. In March the only thing left to move is technique, which is worth real marks but is a smaller lever than foundations plus Exploration plus technique together.

07

Academic honesty in a mathematics context

  • Permitted: teaching content, explaining criteria, coaching a topic, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not permitted: writing sections, supplying calculations, model Explorations, editing to a finish
  • No IB past papers or mark schemes offered as downloads
  • The student signs the authorship declaration, so the line is not a formality

The honesty question sounds abstract until it meets an Exploration deadline. Then it becomes very concrete: can the tutor just check these calculations, or rewrite this section, or send a worked version to compare against? The answer is no to all three, and it is worth knowing why before the week it matters.

The permitted ground is wide. A tutor may teach any content in the syllabus. They may explain what each Exploration criterion asks for and what it is worth. They may help narrow a topic until the mathematics is appropriate and the engagement is real. They may read a draft the student has written and say that the notation is inconsistent, that the reflection is a summary rather than an evaluation, or that a step does not follow. All of that is teaching.

What is not permitted is producing the work. Not writing a section. Not supplying the calculations the student then transcribes. Not providing a model Exploration to be adapted. Not editing a draft to a finish so the submitted piece is substantially the tutor's. The student signs a declaration of authorship and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice.

This matters more in this search result than it should, because it contains operators selling finished coursework — one advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. We also do not supply IB past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables as downloads, because they belong to the IB. We cite them, link the official source and teach from them.

08

What we will not promise about a maths grade

  • No grade, points or improvement guarantees of any kind
  • No statistics without sample size, date and method — so none at all
  • No regulator claims, no UAE office, no unevidenced examiner descriptions
  • An honest diagnostic verdict instead, including when the answer is 'not in this time'

No grade guarantee. Not a 7, not a specific points improvement, not a particular paper score. Anyone offering one in this market is either not serious or is relying on a refund clause nobody reads, and in maths specifically the offer is especially hollow because the variables — the student's prior algebra, how many weeks remain, which paper structure they are meeting for the first time — are not under a tutor's control.

No invented statistics either. No average score achieved by students we have taught, no percentage who improved, no satisfaction figure. Competitors publish numbers like these routinely and almost none states a sample size, a date or a method. A statistic without those three is decoration. We would rather publish nothing than publish decoration dressed as evidence.

No regulator or awarding-body claim. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, has no office or centre anywhere in the UAE, and does not describe tutors as IB examiners unless current examiner status can be evidenced — which in practice means we do not describe them that way at all. Examiner status is also not access to marking or boundaries, whatever anyone implies.

What we will say is narrower and more useful. After a diagnostic we will tell you whether the gap is foundations, technique or the Exploration, roughly how long each of those takes to move, and whether the time available is enough. Sometimes the answer is that it is not, and that the better plan is to concentrate on two components rather than three. That is the conversation worth having.

Where we tutor

DAMAC Hills 2 and the communities that share its school run

Maths tutoring has to fit around a long drive out here, and the drive differs slightly by community. These are the neighbourhoods around DAMAC Hills 2 and what changes between them.

DAMAC Hills 2

Villa and townhouse community off the Al Qudra corridor, formerly Akoya Oxygen. Diploma students mostly travel out to Motor City, Sports City or further, which puts the usable evening after half four.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside this community. Families there have a short run, so a 4pm maths session is feasible in a way it usually is not one community over.

Arabian Ranches 3

Nearest established neighbour on the Emirates Road side, sharing the same school pool and the same evening traffic pattern. Collection often twenty minutes earlier, which matters for a Year 12 slot.

Mudon

Mostly younger families on the Al Qudra side. Maths enquiries here are usually MYP criteria work or Year 11 bridging rather than Diploma rescue, which is the cheaper end to intervene at.

Remraam

Apartment community served by South View School, with the shortest local run. Also the community where the travel premium on a visiting tutor gets weighed most carefully against an online rate.

Town Square

Further along the corridor with commuting parents, so maths sessions here usually land after six or at weekends. The local pool of AA HL specialists is as thin as in DAMAC Hills 2.

Dubai Sports City

Fifteen to twenty minutes towards town, with Victory Heights Primary, GEMS United and Bradenton Preparatory Academy. The nearest point where a DAMAC Hills 2 school run becomes genuinely short.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard. If you are not sure, the school will confirm it in one email. This single fact determines which specialists are even candidates, and getting it wrong wastes a term on correct mathematics in the wrong proportions.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic on real past-paper questions

The student works through questions at their own level while a specialist watches, including non-calculator work. This is where the real gap appears, and in maths it is usually underneath the named topic: algebraic manipulation rather than calculus, statistical vocabulary rather than regression.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

Not a sales call and not a different person. The specialist who would continue teaches a full session, and you and your child judge the fit. If the explanation style does not land, nothing has been spent and we propose someone else. In maths, explanation style matters more than in any other subject.

  4. 04

Set the slot where your child can still think

Around the DAMAC Hills 2 school run and prayer times, usually 4:30pm for Year 12 and 8pm for Year 13, with weekend mornings as the alternative. Maths does not survive a tired hour, so we would rather propose a weekend block than a weekday slot that will not work.

  5. 05

Review by paper and by criterion

Every few weeks the tutor reports against something checkable: which paper technique is now reliable, which Exploration criterion the draft is weak on, whether the algebraic foundation has moved. If nothing has shifted, that is where the plan or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the route, not to the word maths

AA HL, AA SL, AI HL and AI SL are four different jobs. We establish which one before proposing anybody, because a tutor teaching the wrong route will teach correct mathematics in the wrong proportions and the paper will not reward it.

We look underneath the named topic

Students name calculus; the diagnostic usually finds algebra. Students name regression; it is usually the absence of statistical vocabulary. Starting the plan from a marked past paper rather than from the school report is what makes the difference measurable.

The Exploration treated as 20% of the grade

Because it is. We coach topic choice early, when it can still be a good topic, and give criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft. The mathematics and the writing stay theirs, and we state that boundary plainly rather than leaving it vague.

Sessions at an hour maths can survive

A calculus derivation cannot be followed by a tired student, so we plan from your school's finish time rather than from our availability. No travel either side means a 4:30pm start exists at all, which from the Al Qudra corridor it otherwise would not.

AED figures with their publisher and date

Three of six ranking competitors publish no price and two quote US dollars. Every rate here names the provider that published it and the month it was read, and none is presented as an IB Gram price.

No guarantees, no decorative numbers

No promised grade, no improvement percentage, no satisfaction figure, no claimed regulator approval, and no home visits anywhere in the UAE. What you get instead is a diagnostic verdict that may say the time available is not enough.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills 2: your questions answered

How do I find out whether my child takes AA or AI maths?+

Ask the school, and ask for the level as well — the full answer is one of four: Analysis and Approaches Higher or Standard, or Applications and Interpretation Higher or Standard. It is usually on the subject choice form from Year 11 and on the Diploma timetable. It matters because the two courses have different syllabuses and different papers, so a tutor matched to the wrong one teaches correct mathematics in proportions the paper will not reward. We will not propose a tutor before we know which of the four it is.

Should we pick Applications and Interpretation because it looks lighter?+

No, it is different. AI emphasises modelling, statistics, financial mathematics and the use of technology, where Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebra, proof and calculus. Students who choose AI to avoid difficulty frequently find hypothesis testing and regression harder than the algebra they were avoiding, because they arrive with no statistical vocabulary. AI at Higher Level also contains matrices, graph theory and complex numbers, which surprises almost everyone who picked it expecting less abstraction. Choose on what the intended degree expects, not on which looks lighter.

Which maths route do universities expect from an IB student?+

It depends on the course and you must check the published requirement rather than rely on general advice. Many mathematics, physics and engineering degrees specify Analysis and Approaches, and many specify Higher Level in a mathematics subject. Business, social science and design programmes are generally comfortable with Applications and Interpretation. UAE institutions publish their own requirements and they are not identical to UK or US ones. Do this before the Year 11 choice is confirmed, because reversing it after a term of Year 12 is painful where it is possible at all.

How much does the Exploration count towards a DAMAC Hills 2 student IB maths grade?+

Twenty per cent, in every IB maths course at both levels. It is assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. The commonest pattern we see is a strong student attempting ambitious mathematics they half understand, with no visible personal engagement, scoring below a student who handled a modest topic they genuinely cared about correctly. Difficulty is not on the criteria list. Because it is worth a fifth of the grade and is finished before exam revision begins, it is the most recoverable block of marks in the course.

Can a tutor check the calculations in my child's Exploration?+

A tutor can tell your child that a step does not follow, that notation is inconsistent, or that a conclusion is not supported by the working — feedback on a draft the student has written is permitted and useful. What a tutor may not do is supply the calculations, write a section, provide a model Exploration to adapt, or edit the piece to a finish so it is substantially theirs. The student signs an authorship declaration and the supervisor signs alongside, and the IB withdraws awards for malpractice, so the distinction is practical rather than procedural.

Why does my child suddenly struggle with maths in Year 12?+

Usually because the step from IGCSE Extended or MYP maths into Diploma maths — especially Analysis and Approaches Higher Level — is the largest jump in the whole curriculum, in abstraction, pace and algebraic demand all at once. A student who was comfortable at sixteen can be genuinely lost by November of Year 12, and that is a curriculum step rather than a decline in ability. The effective intervention is a short block on algebraic fluency, functions and trigonometric identities, done early, before the Year 12 content builds two storeys on it.

What is HL Paper 3 and why do students lose marks on it?+

It is the third written paper that only Higher Level candidates sit, and it is a different task from the other two: longer, less scaffolded, rewarding sustained reasoning across a single extended problem in Analysis and Approaches or extended modelling in Applications and Interpretation. The commonest loss is abandoning the whole question after the first unfamiliar part, when the later parts were accessible. Schools meet it late because practice naturally concentrates on the papers both levels sit, so it benefits from explicit, separate preparation.

What time should a maths session be scheduled from DAMAC Hills 2?+

At an hour the student can still think in, which for maths matters more than for any other subject — nobody follows a calculus derivation while tired. For Year 12 that is usually 4:30pm, straight off the school run from Motor City or Dubai Sports City, which only exists as an option because nobody is driving to you. For Year 13 it is often 8pm for ninety minutes, once the house is quiet and a full paper section plus marking fits without rushing. Weekend mornings suit maths better than scattered weekday hours.

Is there an AA Higher Level specialist living near DAMAC Hills 2?+

Frequently not. The IB is roughly 7% of Dubai's 387,441 private-school pupils spread across the whole emirate, only the final two years sit the Diploma, and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is one route of four. The pool of people who have taught it to final grade is therefore small citywide, and most of them are serving school teachers whose permit code of conduct bars tutoring students enrolled at their own school. Online matching removes distance from a problem where distance was never the binding constraint.

What do IB maths tutors charge in Dubai?+

Published figures read in October 2026: budget online from AED 33-65 an hour (Tutopiya, EdFlik), qualified online subject tutors AED 150-300 with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, IB specialists AED 200-450 and above with TutorChase at AED 270, in-home visits AED 180-500 including travel, and BartyED at AED 650 premium. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid and AED 1,000-2,000 plus for specialist exam-year work. Those belong to the providers named. We quote after the free trial, because route, level and weeks remaining change the answer.

Where is maths tutoring money most often wasted here?+

In the bottom band, applied to the top of the course. A budget generalist at AED 33-65 an hour can genuinely help a Year 8 student with homework. Handed an Analysis and Approaches Higher Level student in Year 13, the same tutor will teach plausible mathematics that is not the course, and a term passes pleasantly with no change in paper performance. It felt cheap, which is exactly what makes it the most expensive mistake available in this market. The second commonest waste is paying an in-home travel premium for presence rather than course knowledge.

When is the best time to start IB maths support?+

Early Year 12, because that is when foundations, Exploration and technique are all still movable. Everything in the Diploma maths year sits on algebraic fluency, so securing that first makes the rest cheaper. The Exploration topic should be chosen in the second half of Year 12, while it can still be a good topic rather than an available one. By March of Year 13 the only remaining lever is paper technique, which is worth real marks but is a smaller lever than all three together. We will say so rather than imply otherwise.

Can the same tutor cover maths and physics for a Diploma student?+

Often yes, and there is a real argument for it in these two subjects specifically: the algebraic and graphical demands overlap heavily, and a tutor who sees both can stop a student from treating them as unrelated. It also lets one person weigh a Physics Internal Assessment deadline against a maths mock instead of two tutors each optimising for their own subject. What we will not do is stretch a tutor across subjects they do not genuinely teach to save you a second match.

Can any tutor promise my child a top grade in IB maths?+

No, and nobody honestly can. The variables that decide a maths grade — prior algebraic fluency, how many weeks remain, whether the student has ever been taught paper technique, whether the Exploration was started early — are not all under a tutor's control. We publish no grade guarantees, no improvement percentages, no average scores achieved by students we have taught and no satisfaction figures, because every one of those would need a sample size, a date and a method we could show you. A promise of a specific top grade tells you something about the provider making it.

When do IB exams happen for DAMAC Hills 2 students?+

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no specific IB date, and the reason is worth stating: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from ibo.org, and we will not put an unverified date in front of a family that will plan around it. Get exact dates from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. For IGCSE siblings, Cambridge runs June and November series, with February/March offered to India only, and Pearson runs May/June and November.

Start with four words: which course, which level

An IB maths tutor in DAMAC Hills 2 is the right hire only once you know whether your child sits Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. Send us that, the school, and what time your child reaches the door, and we will propose a specialist who has taught that exact route, diagnose on real past-paper questions rather than on the school report, and arrange a free trial lesson in a slot where maths can actually be thought about. Everything is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
