IB MYP Tutor in the UAE

An IB MYP tutor in the UAE costs less than a Diploma specialist, and is bought for a different reason: Middle Years Programme grades come from four criteria marked out of eight each, not from a paper. This page publishes the AED bands the UAE market actually charges for MYP support, the five things that move that number, and what a parent gets for it. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service IB Gram offers only in India.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What you are really paying for when you hire an MYP tutor

An IB MYP tutor in the UAE sits in the middle of the market, and the reason is structural rather than a discount. Online one-to-one support for a Middle Years Programme student runs roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour at the qualified-subject-tutor tier. Unitors publishes IGCSE support from AED 150 and IB support from AED 200, while Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts specialist exam-year work at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. A Diploma Programme Higher Level specialist costs more because an external paper is coming. For most MYP students, no external paper is coming at all.

That changes what the money buys. A Diploma tutor is hired against a syllabus with published papers, weightings and grade boundaries. An MYP tutor is hired against four criteria, each marked out of eight, which a classroom teacher applies with professional judgement and reports as a single number from 1 to 7. The useful question is not what an hour costs. It is which of the four numbers on your child's last report is holding the grade down, and whether an hour a week is the right instrument for that particular problem. A parent who can read a criterion profile buys fewer hours and gets more out of each one.

Five variables move an MYP tutor cost in practice: the subject group, the MYP year, whether the student is in the eAssessment cohort, how many subjects are in scope, and how specialised the match has to be. Design and extended mathematics in MYP 4 and MYP 5 are thin specialisms anywhere in the Emirates, so they price above Individuals and societies or Language acquisition. A single criterion repaired in MYP 2 might take six sessions and nothing more. An MYP 5 student sitting on-screen examinations in two subject groups is a different budget entirely, and should be planned as a block rather than an open-ended weekly commitment.

Delivery is the part families want straight, so here it is. Every lesson IB Gram arranges for a UAE family runs live online, one-to-one, over video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the school run, prayer times and, in Ramadan, around Iftar. Home visits are a service offered only in India. The honest case for online here is not price. It is that a Sharjah family gets a Design specialist who has actually marked criterion B of the design cycle, rather than the nearest generalist who can reach Al Majaz by half past four on a Tuesday.

What follows is the arithmetic, in the order a parent needs it: how an MYP grade is assembled, what the UAE market charges for each kind of support, what moves that number, how online MYP tuition compares with the in-home model on rate and on tutor pool, MYP 5 counted backwards from the May session, the Year 10 fork between staying in the MYP and moving to IGCSE, and where the mandatory UAE subjects sit alongside all of it. Where a figure comes from a published source, the source is named. Where a date is unverified, the page says so plainly.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The MYP is a five-year programme with a feeder below it and a decision above it, and the cost of support changes sharply between those stages. These four blocks are what a UAE family is actually buying across the middle of school, with the local wrinkle each one carries.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The feeder, and where most of the habits the MYP marks are first set. PYP has no grades and no criteria, which is exactly why MYP 1 can feel like a cliff: a student who has never been marked against a descriptor meets four of them at once. Support here is rarely subject tutoring. It is reading stamina, written structure and number fluency.

Full-continuum schools in the Emirates run PYP straight into MYP 1, so the step is softer. Students arriving from a British or Indian primary into MYP 1 at a UAE international school meet criterion marking cold, usually in the first November report, and that report is where most MYP enquiries to us begin.

MYP 1-3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Middle Years Programme, years one to three

Eight subject groups, a minimum of 50 teaching hours in each per year, and integrated sciences rather than separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Assessment is entirely internal. The marks that move most here belong to criterion C and criterion D: communicating clearly, referencing consistently, and producing a reflection that cites evidence instead of feelings.

This is the cheapest and most useful place for a UAE family to buy hours. Six to ten sessions at the AED 150 to AED 250 band, spent on referencing and research questions, transfer across all eight subject groups and across the next four years. Most families here instead wait for MYP 5 and pay the eAssessment-year rate for the same lesson.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Middle Years Programme, years four and five

Sciences split into separate disciplines, mathematics splits into standard and extended, and the Personal Project runs across MYP 5 alongside everything else. Schools that offer MYP eAssessment enter students for two-hour on-screen examinations and moderated ePortfolios. Subject choice here closes options above it, which is why the hours bought in MYP 4 matter more than their price suggests.

Many UAE schools licensed for the MYP stop at MYP 3 and move the cohort onto Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE in Year 10. If yours does, the tutoring you need changes from criterion coaching to code-specific paper work on 0580, 0625 or 4MA1, and entry deadlines start to matter. Ask the coordinator which route the cohort takes before you book anything.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The destination for most MYP 5 students in the Emirates: six subjects at Higher or Standard Level, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Rates roughly double against MYP, because the work becomes examination craft against published papers and weightings, and because Internal Assessment supervision falls in an exam year.

The MYP to DP transition is where UAE families most often overspend, by buying Diploma hours in September of DP1 when the gap could have been closed in August for less. Extended mathematics in MYP 5 is the honest entry point for Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches; standard mathematics points towards Applications and Interpretation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

MYP subject groups are not exam syllabuses, so a tutor is matched to the group and to the criterion, not to a code. These are the groups UAE families ask about most, with what each one assesses and where the marks actually leak.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5 · criteria A-D

Analysing, organising, producing text and using language, each out of eight. Students who read well often sit on 5s because criterion B organisation and criterion C conventions are marked separately from insight. The repair is structural: thesis placement, paragraph function and quotation handling, rather than more reading.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6 · listening, reading, speaking, writing

Phase placement is the hidden variable. A student parked a phase below their real level collects comfortable 7s that mean nothing, and one placed a phase above collects 3s that panic a parent. Check the phase on the report before buying hours, then target the productive skills, which carry the lower marks.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5 · criteria A-D

Knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating, thinking critically. Criterion B asks for a research question narrow enough to answer and sources evaluated for origin and purpose. Most lost marks here are process marks, not knowledge marks, and process is teachable in a handful of sessions.

Sciences

MYP 1-3 integrated · MYP 4-5 Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Criterion B inquiring and designing and criterion C processing and evaluating are where UAE science cohorts lose most. Writing a testable hypothesis with a scientific rationale, controlling variables explicitly, and evaluating a method against its own limitations are the three habits that move a 4 to a 6.

Mathematics

MYP 1-3 · MYP 4-5 standard and extended

Criterion C is communicating in mathematical form and criterion D is applying mathematics in real-life contexts, and the second is where strong calculators collapse. The extended course in MYP 4 and 5 is the route towards Analysis and Approaches, and it is the subject families most often leave too late.

Design

MYP 1-5 · inquiring, developing, creating, evaluating

The hardest MYP group to staff in the Emirates. Marks sit in the documented design cycle: a stated problem, a research-backed specification, annotated development work, and a testing plan written before the product exists. A generalist who has never marked criterion B of a design folder cannot help with it.

Arts

MYP 1-5 · visual arts, music, drama

Assessed on investigating, developing, creating and evaluating, with the process journal carrying far more weight than parents expect. For ePortfolio candidates in MYP 5, the recorded process is the evidence. A tutor here coaches documentation and artistic intention; the work itself stays entirely the student's.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5 · criteria A-D

Often the quietest grade on a report and the easiest to lift, because criterion A knowing and understanding and criterion D reflecting are written tasks on anatomy, training principles and performance analysis. Students who perform well in the hall frequently under-write the theory.

Interdisciplinary Units

MYP 1-5 · separately reported

Two subject groups assessed together against their own criteria, with an on-screen interdisciplinary examination for eAssessment candidates. Students treat it as an extra piece of work rather than a distinct skill, which is why it so often reports a band below the contributing subjects.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First language and additional language streams

Mandatory alongside the MYP in UAE private schools and reported separately from the subject groups. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, with different curriculum expectations and languages of instruction, so the right stream matters more than extra hours for most families.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

MYP support works better as a defined block with a stated target than as an open weekly subscription, because the thing being fixed is usually a criterion rather than a syllabus. These are the three shapes UAE families use, all delivered online and one-to-one.

Weekly criterion clinic

One hour a week against one named criterion in one subject group, working from the student's own marked returns and task sheets. The target is set at the start from the report profile, and reviewed after six weeks against the next criterion-marked piece. This is the standard MYP 1 to 3 shape and the cheapest useful thing on this page.

  • One subject group, one criterion, one measurable target
  • Works from the school's own task sheet and rubric, not a workbook
  • Six-week review against the next marked piece
  • Market band roughly AED 150 to AED 250 an hour

MYP 5 eAssessment block

A fixed block of sessions across the spring term for students entered for on-screen examinations and ePortfolios. Two hours on screen under timed conditions is its own skill, separate from classroom criterion work, so the block practises it directly. Scope is set to two subject groups at most, because three rarely leaves enough homework time.

  • Timed on-screen practice, not past-paper drilling
  • ePortfolio tasks reviewed against criteria, never written for the student
  • Interdisciplinary examination treated as a distinct skill
  • Two subject groups maximum, planned as a block with an end date

Personal Project process coaching

Fortnightly sessions across two terms of MYP 5, aimed at the three criteria the project is assessed on: planning, applying skills and reflecting. The coaching is about narrowing a goal, setting product criteria, keeping a dated process journal and reading the descriptors. The report and the product stay entirely the student's own work.

  • A goal narrow enough to finish inside the school's timeline
  • Product criteria written by the student before building anything
  • A process journal kept in real time, not reconstructed at the end
  • No sentences supplied for the report, at any stage

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What an IB MYP tutor is actually hired to do

An MYP tutor is hired to move a criterion mark, not to cover a syllabus. Middle Years grades come from four criteria per subject group, each awarded out of eight, summing to 32 and converted to the familiar 1 to 7. Nothing in that chain involves an external examiner for most students. So the job is to find which of the four marks is low, work out whether it is a knowledge problem or a process problem, and fix the smaller of the two. That is a narrower brief than Diploma tutoring, and it is priced accordingly.

This is why the first conversation should be about a report, not about a timetable. A student on 7, 6, 4, 4 in Sciences has a communication and evaluation problem and needs perhaps eight sessions. A student on 4, 4, 6, 5 has a content and design-of-inquiry problem and needs something different. Both show a 5 on the report. A provider who quotes hours before seeing the profile is guessing, and guessing in this programme is expensive because it defaults to general revision, which is the one thing a mid-band MYP student usually does not need.

The second thing an MYP tutor does is protect the decisions above MYP 5. Subject choice in MYP 4, the standard or extended mathematics route, and whether the school takes the cohort into eAssessment or into IGCSE all narrow what is available in the Diploma. Hours spent making those decisions well are worth more than hours spent on content. A tutor who can explain what extended mathematics does to Analysis and Approaches eligibility is giving you something no worksheet provides.

What an MYP tutor is not hired to do is produce work. The Personal Project report, the ePortfolio tasks and every criterion-marked piece must be the student's own. A tutor teaches, reviews, marks against the descriptors and gives feedback. Any provider in this market offering a finished piece of assessed work is offering malpractice, and the student carries that risk, not the provider.

02

How an MYP grade is built: four criteria, 32 marks, one number

Every MYP subject group is assessed against four criteria lettered A to D, each marked out of eight. The four marks sum to 32, and the school converts that total into the 1 to 7 reported grade using the boundary table the IB publishes for the programme. The criterion names change between subject groups, which is the detail that confuses parents: criterion A is Knowing and understanding in Sciences, Analysing in Language and literature, and Knowing and understanding again in Individuals and societies. The letters are constant; the meanings are not.

The practical consequence is that two students with the same reported grade can need opposite interventions. A profile of 7, 7, 3, 3 and a profile of 5, 5, 5, 5 can both land on a 5. The first is a student who knows the material and cannot communicate or evaluate it; the second is evenly mid-band and needs a different kind of work. Ask the teacher for the criterion marks, and where the subject uses strands within a criterion, ask which strand was awarded. That request costs nothing and changes what you should buy.

Top-band descriptors in the MYP reward transfer and judgement rather than recall. A 7-8 band in criterion A usually requires terminology applied accurately in an unfamiliar situation. A 7-8 in criterion D usually requires a judgement supported by evidence on both sides with limitations named honestly. Students lose these marks for predictable reasons: describing instead of applying, reflecting on feelings instead of evidence, and treating referencing as presentation rather than as a marked requirement. All three are teachable inside a term.

The table below sets out the letters, the marks and the failure modes we see most often in UAE cohorts. Criterion names are given in the forms used across the commoner subject groups; your subject guide is the authority for the exact wording your school applies.

What MYP tutoring costs in the UAE, line by line

Online one-to-one MYP support in the UAE sits in the qualified-subject-tutor band, roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour as of October 2026. The published reference points are these: Unitors advertises IGCSE support from AED 150 and IB support from AED 200; EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 at the budget online tier; Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table gives in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350 and specialist exam-year work at AED 200 to AED 450 and above; BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Those are the market's numbers, published by those providers, not an IB Gram price list.

Monthly packages circulating in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Read a package with two questions: do unused sessions carry forward, and does the rate change if you drop from two subject groups to one? A month containing Eid, half-term or a school trip has fewer usable weeks than the invoice assumes.

Context matters for judging any of this. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under a Dubai economic incentives package, so a tutoring line is the part of the education budget still moving. Against a school fee, two MYP sessions a week for a term is a small number; against the alternative of three subject groups tutored simultaneously for a year, it is the difference between a plan and a panic. The table below is the shape of the bill by stage, with the market band for each.

IB Gram quotes after a trial lesson and a conversation about scope, because the honest answer depends on the criterion profile, the subject group and the number of weeks available. A provider that publishes a single hourly number for every MYP situation is either rounding up or guessing.

The five things that move an MYP tutor cost

  • Thin subject groups price higher: Design, extended mathematics, Arts ePortfolio
  • MYP 1-3 prices below MYP 4-5; eAssessment cohorts price highest
  • Three subject groups at once usually signals a study-habit problem, not a knowledge one
  • Booked early against a criterion beats booked late against a deadline
  • No examiner premium in an internally assessed programme, and no permit fee

Subject group is the first variable, and it moves the price more than most parents expect. Design, extended mathematics and Arts for the ePortfolio route are thin specialisms across the whole country, so they price at the upper end of the band or above it. Individuals and societies, Language and literature and Physical and health education are the opposite: a strong pool, a lower band, and a realistic chance of a match inside a week. Nobody advertises this difference, but it is the single biggest driver of a quote.

MYP year is the second. MYP 1 to 3 support is generic enough that a good teacher in any humanities or science background can deliver it, and it prices accordingly. MYP 4 and 5 narrows to the specific course and, for eAssessment cohorts, to the on-screen format. The third variable is scope: one subject group at one hour a week is a budget; three subject groups is a different thing entirely and usually a sign that the problem is study habits rather than subject knowledge.

The fourth is urgency, and it is the one families control and routinely surrender. Six sessions booked in October against a named criterion cost less and achieve more than fifteen booked in April against a deadline. The fifth is match specificity: a tutor who has marked the criterion you care about, in the subject group you care about, at the MYP phase your child is in, costs more per hour and fewer hours in total. The arithmetic usually favours the specialist, but not always, and the report profile is what decides.

Two things should never appear on an MYP invoice. One is a premium for a named examiner, because the MYP is internally assessed for most students and examiner status is not a relevant credential here. The other is a charge connected to a tutor's permit: the MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years, so a licensing fee passed to a parent is not a real cost.

05

Online MYP tuition against the in-home model

In-home tutoring is a real market in the Emirates and worth describing honestly. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500, with travel priced inside that number. Monthly in-home packages advertise at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Families choose it for the obvious reason: a younger student concentrates better with someone in the room, and a parent can see what happened. For MYP 1 and MYP 2 in particular, that is a legitimate preference and not a mistake.

The costs are travel and pool. Twenty to forty-five minutes each way across Dubai or Abu Dhabi at school-run hours is normal, and it is paid for either in the rate or in the slot that keeps slipping. The deeper constraint is who is reachable. An in-home search returns the tutors who live within driving distance of your community, which for Design in MYP 5 or extended mathematics may be nobody at all. Shortening the list to the geographically convenient is how a mid-band criterion problem gets handed to a generalist.

IB Gram delivers to UAE families as one-to-one online tuition over live video, and does not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the Emirates; home visits are an India-only service. The case for that model here is specific rather than general: the pool becomes national and international rather than local, the slot starts when the student sits down, screen sharing lets a criterion descriptor and a marked task sheet sit side by side, and the session leaves a written record the student can re-read. Those four things matter more in a criterion-marked programme than in a paper-based one.

The table compares the two models on the things that actually differ. Rates quoted for the in-home column are the published market figures named above, not our own.

MYP 5 counted backwards from the May session

UAE schools that enter students for MYP eAssessment sit the on-screen examinations in the May session, and almost everything that determines the result happens months before it. The sequence runs: a Personal Project proposal agreed with a supervisor early in MYP 5, eAssessment registration closed by the school, a process journal kept in real time, ePortfolio coursework finalised and uploaded in the spring, the Personal Project report submitted, then the examinations themselves. Each of those has an internal school deadline, and the internal deadline is the one that binds a family.

This page does not publish specific IB session or results dates. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, and a wrong date on a page like this is worse than no date, so the table below gives the sequence and the typical window and leaves the calendar to your MYP coordinator. Ask for the internal deadline list in September of MYP 5 and put it on a wall. Schools publish it; families routinely do not read it until the first one has passed.

Counting backwards changes what you buy and when. If ePortfolio tasks close weeks before the examinations, then Arts, Design, Language acquisition and Physical and health education support belongs in the autumn and early spring, not in the revision run-up. If the Personal Project report is due in the spring term, the planning and process-journal work belongs in the first term, when it is cheap and unhurried. Students who leave both to the same eight weeks pay specialist rates for work that is now too late to do properly.

One honest note on the result itself. The IB MYP Certificate requires results across eight components, including the interdisciplinary examination and the Personal Project, with a minimum total of 28 points from a possible 56 and a minimum grade in each, alongside the service as action requirement. Confirm the current requirement with your coordinator, because programme requirements are revised. No Diploma place in the Emirates depends on it, which is worth knowing before anyone buys crisis hours in April.

MYP or IGCSE at Year 10: the decision that changes your tutoring bill

A large share of UAE schools licensed for the MYP run it to MYP 3 and then move the cohort into Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE for Years 10 and 11. Both routes are legitimate and both lead into the Diploma, but they produce completely different tutoring briefs. MYP 4 and 5 work is criterion coaching spread across the year with internal deadlines. IGCSE work is code-specific: syllabus 0580 or 4MA1 in mathematics, 0625 in physics, with specimen papers, mark schemes, tier decisions and entry deadlines that sit months before the exam.

The deadline difference is the one that catches families. Cambridge's March 2027 series, for example, had final entries due on 27 November 2026, with the exam period running from 3 February to 4 March 2027, forecast grades due 27 February and results on Direct on 13 May. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November series, with June 2026 results issued to centres on 19 August 2026. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam through using the wrong zone timetable. None of that machinery exists in the MYP.

For tutoring, the honest advice is to buy against what the student sits. If Year 10 begins an IGCSE syllabus, past-paper work and command-term fluency become the point, and a tutor who cannot name the syllabus code is the wrong tutor. If the student stays in MYP 4 and 5, criterion repair remains the point and past papers barely exist. The expensive mistake is hiring IGCSE-style drilling for an MYP student, which produces a well-drilled child whose criterion C mark has not moved.

Equivalency sits above both routes rather than inside them. The federal British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one accredited A-Level at E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure; the sourced number is five. No IB points threshold for equivalency has been confirmed on the Ministry's own pages, so treat any quoted IB figure as unverified and check moe.gov.ae directly.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the MYP

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside every licensed curriculum
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required, not optional
  • Mandatory-subject time is counted in 40-minute units, with at least 25 minutes advised per lesson
  • Check the stream and the weekly minutes before buying hours
  • Additional or different content needs prior Ministry permission

No UAE private school runs the MYP on its own. Federal rules require private schools to teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies regardless of the international curriculum they are licensed for, and in Dubai the KHDA mandatory-subject requirements apply to every private school whatever the programme. Those subjects appear on the report alongside the eight MYP subject groups, and they are frequently the grades a parent least understands and most often tries to solve with paid hours.

The structural detail matters before any money is spent. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, while non-Arab students are taught Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic are required to hold the appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is prohibited, which is a real constraint on what any tutor can legitimately bring to a session.

The practical sequence for a parent is therefore: confirm which stream your child is in, confirm the weekly minutes the school is delivering, and only then decide whether extra hours are warranted. A non-Arab student placed in a first-language Arabic class does not have a tutoring problem; they have a placement problem, and the school fixes it at no cost. Where tuition genuinely helps is vocabulary and script fluency for additional-language learners, and that work sits comfortably in the AED 150 to AED 250 band.

Academic honesty: what an MYP tutor must refuse

The MYP is almost entirely internally assessed, which makes the honesty boundary sharper here than in an examination programme. Criterion-marked tasks, ePortfolio pieces and the Personal Project report are all submitted as the student's own work, and a teacher who suspects otherwise escalates it as a programme matter. The exposure sits with the student. A provider who crosses the line keeps the fee; the child carries the consequence, which can reach the loss of a result.

Here is the line in plain terms. A tutor may teach the underlying skill, explain a criterion descriptor, mark a draft against the descriptors and say precisely why a strand sits in the 3-4 band rather than the 5-6 band. A tutor may teach how to narrow a goal, how to keep a dated process journal and how to reference consistently. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite a paragraph into its final state, hand over material that is then submitted, or take a piece of assessed work from first draft to finished. Those are different activities, not points on a spectrum.

This market contains providers who sell the second thing. One site found in research for these pages advertises finished Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is an academic-integrity breach and a malpractice trigger under IB rules, and a page that quietly competes with it on price is making the same offer in softer words. IB Gram does not take that work, and if a session drifts towards it the tutor stops and says why.

Two practical tests for a parent. First, ask what the student will produce between sessions: an honest answer names the student doing the work. Second, ask whether the tutor will work from the school's own task sheet and rubric, because a provider planning to supply content has no use for either. A tutor who asks to see the marked return before quoting hours is working the right way round.

The regulator, the inspection band, and whether you need a tutor at all

Five bodies regulate private schools across the seven emirates, and which one covers your school changes what information you can get for free. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does so there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The emirate authorities do more than inspect. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the regulator approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum and fee approval sits at emirate level rather than federally. Published inspection reports name strengths and weaknesses by phase and often by subject, which is free diagnostic information about the teaching your child is already receiving. Read the one for your own school before buying anything: a reported weakness in middle-phase science assessment practice tells you something a tutor cannot.

Two regulatory points bear directly on hiring. Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-based: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any circulating figure as unverified. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school.

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and it operates no office or centre in the Emirates. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific licence for a specific thing. Any provider describing its tutors as regulator-approved is describing something that does not exist in that form.

Where we tutor

Where MYP cohorts actually sit across the seven emirates

The MYP is concentrated in a small number of full-continuum schools, which is why a neighbourhood tutor search for a Middle Years subject group so often fails. Here is what the map looks like emirate by emirate, and what it means for matching and for timing.

Dubai

The deepest MYP market in the country, inside a private sector of 227 schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25, of which International Baccalaureate programmes accounted for 7 per cent of enrolment. MYP tutoring in Dubai is the one place a subject-group specialist might also live nearby, though Design remains thin.

Abu Dhabi

Fewer MYP cohorts than Dubai and spread much further apart, from the island out to Khalifa City and Al Raha. MYP tutoring in Abu Dhabi is where the online case is strongest: a 4.30pm slot survives a Corniche commute only in theory, and ADEK's ethics rules bar a teacher from paid tutoring of students at their own school.

Al Ain

ADEK-regulated like the capital, with a handful of international schools and almost no local pool for MYP 4 and 5 sciences or extended mathematics. Families here are usually choosing between a generalist in the city and a subject-group specialist on screen, and the criterion profile should decide it.

Sharjah

Regulated by SPEA, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so an MYP timetable in Sharjah can differ from a Dubai one in genuinely material ways. Evening slots after the Dubai commute home are the normal pattern for working parents here.

Ajman

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority, with one established IB continuum school and a lot of cross-border enrolment into Sharjah and Dubai. Session timing has to absorb a long school run, which in practice means starting no earlier than 5pm.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education is regulated by the Department of Knowledge, which also approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. MYP numbers are small enough that a specialist in a thin subject group almost certainly does not live in the emirate, and no amount of local searching changes that.

Fujairah

Under federal Ministry of Education supervision, with the smallest international cohort of the seven emirates and effectively no local MYP tutoring market. The mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies requirements still apply here exactly as they do in Dubai.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai full-continuum schools

The schools below run IB programmes in Dubai and are where most MYP enquiries to us originate. Several run the full continuum from PYP through MYP to the Diploma; read your own school's published inspection report for the phase and subject detail before deciding where hours should go.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Universal American School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

A mixed cluster, and the mix is the point. Some schools here run the MYP to Year 11; others take the cohort into Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE at Year 10. Students we support attend both kinds, and the tutoring brief differs completely between them.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the Northern Emirates

Thin on MYP cohorts and thinner still on resident subject-group specialists, which is why online matching does most of the work north of Dubai. Session timing in this cluster is built around the commute home rather than around the school bell.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy

Schools are named here as context for the UAE Middle Years landscape only: IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, group or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report, not the timetable

Share the latest criterion marks for the subject groups in question, and the marked return if you have it. Ten minutes reading a profile of 7, 6, 4, 4 tells us more than an hour discussing availability. If the school reports strands within a criterion, include those too.

  2. 02

A trial lesson before any commitment

One session, no package attached, with the tutor marking a piece of the student's own work against the descriptors and explaining the band. You get a written note afterwards naming the criterion to target. If the match is wrong, say so and we change it rather than absorbing it.

  3. 03

A scope and a price for that scope

We quote against the number of subject groups, the MYP year and the weeks available, and we say which market band that sits in. If a thin subject group means a specialist in another time zone, you hear that before booking, along with the hours that actually overlap Gulf Standard Time.

  4. 04

Six weeks, then a real review

The target is one criterion and the test is the next criterion-marked piece from the school. At six weeks we either name the next target or tell you the hours are no longer earning their place. Stopping on time is part of the service, and a tutor who never recommends it is not reviewing anything.

  5. 05

Replan at each MYP decision point

Subject choice in MYP 4, standard against extended mathematics, eAssessment or IGCSE, and the summer before DP1 are the four moments worth an unhurried conversation. Each one changes what is available later, and each is cheaper to get right in advance than to repair afterwards.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Criterion-first, not syllabus-first

Tutors are matched to the criterion holding the grade down, in the subject group it sits in, at the MYP phase the student is in. The brief starts from your school's own marked return and rubric, which is the only document that says what went wrong.

Published numbers, named sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or table that published it, with the month it was read. We do not present market bands as our own prices, and we do not publish a statistic without the number, the date and where it came from.

A national pool rather than a local one

Online delivery means a Design or extended mathematics specialist can be matched to a family in Fujairah or Al Ain as easily as in Jumeirah. The alternative is choosing from whoever is reachable by car, which in thin subject groups means choosing a generalist.

Hours that end

MYP support is planned as a block with a target and a review date, not an open subscription. We would rather tell you at week six that the criterion has moved and the hours can stop than keep a slot running because it was already in the calendar.

A clear honesty line

Tutors teach, mark against descriptors and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not supply sentences for a Personal Project report, an ePortfolio task or any criterion-marked piece, and they will say so in the session if the question moves that way.

Scheduling built for the UAE week

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time around the school run and prayer times, shift to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan, and compress into intensive blocks in the long breaks when that suits the family better than a thin weekly hour.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

How much does an IB MYP tutor cost per hour in the UAE?+

Market rates for online one-to-one MYP support run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour at the qualified-subject-tutor tier. Unitors publishes IB support from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table gives in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350 and specialist exam-year work at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, while budget online providers advertise from AED 33 to AED 65. Those are the market's published numbers, read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. We quote after a trial lesson and a conversation about scope.

Why does MYP tutoring cost less than Diploma Programme tutoring?+

Because the work is different. A Diploma Higher Level tutor is paid for examination craft against published papers, weightings and boundaries, and for Internal Assessment supervision in an exam year. Most MYP students sit no external paper at all; their grades come from four criteria a teacher applies in class. The specialism is narrower and the available pool is wider, so the hourly band sits lower. The exceptions are MYP 5 eAssessment candidates and thin subject groups such as Design or extended mathematics, where rates climb towards the Diploma band because very few tutors have marked that work.

My child's MYP report shows 5s in every criterion. Is that worth paying to fix?+

A flat profile of 5s usually means a student who understands the material and loses marks on the criteria that reward structure and judgement, typically C and D. That is a cheaper problem than it looks. Six to eight sessions on referencing, research-question framing and evidence-backed evaluation often move two criteria by a band without touching content. Ask the teacher which strand within each criterion was awarded, then buy hours against that strand. Paying for general subject revision when the profile is flat is the most common wasted spend we see in this programme.

How many criterion marks make up an MYP subject grade?+

Four criteria lettered A to D, each marked out of eight, giving 32 marks per subject group. Your school converts that total into the 1 to 7 grade on the report using the boundary table the IB publishes for the programme. Criterion names differ by subject group: criterion A is Knowing and understanding in Sciences and Analysing in Language and literature. Two students reported on the same 5 can have entirely different profiles, which is why the four numbers behind the grade matter far more than the grade itself for planning any tutoring.

Is it worth paying for tutoring in MYP 1, or should we wait until MYP 4?+

MYP 1 to 3 is where the cheapest useful hours are. Criterion habits, such as referencing, framing a research question and writing a reflection that cites evidence, transfer across all eight subject groups and across five years. Buying them at AED 150 to AED 250 an hour in MYP 2 is better value than buying the same lesson in MYP 5 at the eAssessment rate with a deadline attached. Waiting is defensible when the profile is even and the student self-manages. It gets expensive once criterion C and D marks are already drifting.

What does MYP eAssessment involve, and does it need separate preparation?+

MYP eAssessment is the optional external route in MYP 5 that leads to the IB MYP Certificate. It combines two-hour on-screen examinations in subject groups such as Language and literature, Sciences, Mathematics and Individuals and societies, an interdisciplinary on-screen examination, and moderated ePortfolios in Language acquisition, Arts, Design and Physical and health education. It does need its own preparation, because answering on screen under timed conditions is a separate skill from classroom criterion work. Confirm with your MYP coordinator which route your school runs, since many UAE schools do not enter students at all.

Can a tutor help with the MYP Personal Project without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. The project is assessed on planning, applying skills and reflecting, and the report and process journal must be the student's own work throughout. A tutor can teach how to narrow a goal, how to set product criteria, how to keep a dated process journal and how to read the descriptors. A tutor must not supply sentences, rewrite a paragraph into its final state, or hand over material that is then submitted. Any provider offering a finished piece of assessed work is offering malpractice, and the student carries that risk.

How many sessions a week do UAE MYP families usually book?+

One a week in a single subject group is the normal start in MYP 1 to 3, which at market rates lands around AED 600 to AED 1,000 a month. MYP 4 and 5 families often run one to two, and eAssessment candidates covering two subject groups two to three. More than three hours a week across subjects rarely helps a Middle Years student, because MYP work is set daily and the limiting factor is usually homework quality rather than teaching time. Start at one hour, set a target, and review after six weeks.

Is a monthly package cheaper than paying per session for MYP support?+

Packages advertised in this market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Per hour, the online package is often the cheaper unit. The risk is paying for a month containing Eid, half-term or a school trip, when several slots cannot be used. Ask two questions before committing: do unused sessions carry forward, and does the rate change if you drop from two subject groups to one? A package with neither answer in writing is a liability.

Our school teaches the MYP to Year 9 then switches to IGCSE. Which tutor do we hire?+

Hire against what the student sits, not what the school calls the programme. If Year 10 begins a Cambridge or Pearson syllabus, the work becomes code-specific, on 0580, 0625 or 4MA1, with specimen papers, tier decisions and entries closing months before the series. If the student stays in MYP 4 and 5, the work stays criterion-based and past papers barely exist. The transition term is the part worth paying for: command terms, mark-scheme language and timed papers are genuinely new, and six weeks of bridging usually covers the gap.

Does the MYP count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Equivalency is assessed on the leaving certificate, not on Middle Years results, so the MYP itself is not what gets attested. For the British track, federal guidance requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. No IB points threshold has been confirmed on the Ministry's own pages, so treat any figure quoted elsewhere as unverified and check moe.gov.ae or your emirate's attestation channel directly.

Are we paying twice if we hire an Arabic tutor the school already provides?+

Possibly, so check what the school is required to deliver first. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum is licensed, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is counted in 40-minute units. If your child is in the correct stream and the weekly minutes are being delivered, extra hours are a choice. If the stream is wrong, raise it with the school, which fixes it at no cost.

Which MYP subject groups do UAE families most often ask for help with?+

Mathematics and Sciences lead, mostly on criterion C and criterion D rather than content: processing data, evaluating a method and writing a reflection that uses evidence. Language and literature comes next, usually on criterion B organisation and criterion C conventions. Design is the quietest request and the hardest to staff, because its criteria reward a documented design cycle that few generalists have marked. Language acquisition requests cluster around phase placement, where a student sits a phase below or above what the report profile actually suggests.

Can MYP lessons move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan?+

Yes. Schools shorten the teaching day in Ramadan, so a 4pm slot that worked in January is usually wrong in it. Most UAE families move MYP sessions to after Iftar or to weekend mornings and keep the same tutor rather than the same time. Plan it a fortnight ahead, because every family reschedules in the same week and the good evening slots go first. The same thinking applies to the long summer break, where two intensive weeks often achieve more than eight thin ones spread across a term.

What happens to the fee if no UAE-based MYP specialist is free?+

We say so rather than substituting a generalist. Thin subject groups, including Design, extended mathematics in MYP 5 and Arts for the ePortfolio route, sometimes have no UAE-resident specialist available in the slot you want. The options are then a specialist in another time zone whose working hours overlap Gulf Standard Time, a different slot with the right person, or a wait with a date attached. The rate quoted is the rate for the match you accept, and we do not bill a specialist rate for a generalist.

How do we tell a cheap MYP tutor from a bad one?+

Ask three questions. Which criterion are you targeting, and what does its top band actually require? What will my child produce between sessions, and how will you mark it? And will you work from the school's own task sheet and rubric rather than a generic workbook? A tutor at AED 150 who answers all three well is better value than one at AED 350 who answers none. Ask also whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years.
