IB Home Tutor in The Lakes

Searching for an IB home tutor in The Lakes is really a question about the clock. A Diploma student bussed back from Al Barsha is through the door between 15:45 and 16:40, has eaten by five, and has four hours left before the night is gone. IB Gram builds the lesson into that window: one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, in a slot chosen to survive a bad traffic week rather than a good one. The first lesson is a free trial.

  • Sessions planned around your school's actual finish time, not a generic slot
  • One-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time, same tutor each week
  • Free trial lesson in one subject, no card details collected
  • Moved sessions are rescheduled, never forfeited

IB & IGCSE in The Lakes

Why the school run, not the postcode, decides an IB tutoring timetable

The Lakes is six villa clusters - Deema, Forat, Ghadeer, Hattan, Maeen and Zulal - sharing one road network, one set of bus routes and one evening traffic pattern. Almost none of the secondary students living in them attend school inside the community. They travel out to Al Barsha, Al Sufouh, Al Barsha South or Emirates Hills, and the bus brings them back somewhere between 15:45 and 16:40 depending on the loop and the day. That window, not the distance to a tutor's flat, is what a workable IB timetable is built from.

Here is what that does to an in-home arrangement. A tutor driving from Al Barsha into Hattan for a 16:30 start has to leave at about 16:00, which is the worst twenty minutes of the Dubai afternoon. They can realistically serve two families a night, so they price for it: published in-home rates in Dubai run from AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalently qualified tutor working online. You are paying for the car, and the car is the reason the tutor pool shrinks to whoever lives nearby.

The online version removes the drive from both sides of the arrangement. The lesson starts when the student sits down, not when the tutor parks, so a 16:30 slot can genuinely be 16:30. It also means the choice of tutor is made on who teaches Higher Level Chemistry rather than on who happens to live within a twenty-minute radius of Emirates Living. For a Diploma student taking three Higher Level subjects, that is the whole of the difference, because three Higher Level specialists almost never live in the same neighbourhood.

State the position plainly, because the search term invites the opposite. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India, and no arrangement on this page involves anyone arriving at a Lakes address. What is offered is one-to-one teaching over live video, with a shared screen and work marked while you watch, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the bus. The comparison table further down puts both options side by side with the numbers, so the case is made rather than asserted.

The rest of this page is about timing. When a DP1 week differs from a DP2 week and how many hours each actually needs. What the Monday-to-Friday school week did to the weekend. How two children in one villa get taught on one evening without one of them waiting until nine. What happens during Ramadan, when the whole family's clock shifts. And where the line sits on the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, because a tutor who crosses it creates a problem for the student rather than solving one.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as a continuum, and the scheduling problem changes at each stage. A PYP child has an evening; a DP2 student has a calendar. Here is what each stage demands of a Lakes weeknight.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher Level and three Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Externally examined in the May session for UAE schools, with internal assessments marked by teachers and moderated by the IB. The time problem is that the core work has no timetabled slot and competes directly with the evening a tutor wants.

In The Lakes, DP students are typically at schools in Al Barsha, Al Sufouh or Emirates Hills and home by 16:30 on a good day. One or two weekly hours fit; three does not, unless one of them lands at the weekend. DP2 autumn is the pressure point, when internal assessment deadlines and the Extended Essay converge on the same fortnight.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four published criteria each, every criterion marked from 0 to 8 and combined into a grade from 1 to 7. MYP 5 carries the Personal Project. There is no external examination unless the school enters students for optional eAssessment, so the calendar pressure is internal deadlines rather than a published exam window.

MYP students in The Lakes have more evening left than their Diploma siblings and more sport in it. A 17:00 or 17:30 slot usually holds better than a 16:30 one, because the activity block is what moves, not the bus. Families with an MYP and a DP child in the same villa should stagger rather than stack.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary learning across transdisciplinary themes, finishing with the Year 6 Exhibition. No external assessment and no grades in the MYP sense, so the useful questions are specific: reading fluency, number fact recall, and whether written work has a structure the next programme will assume.

Primary finish times in Emirates Living are earlier, which makes a 15:30 or 16:00 slot possible for a younger child before the secondary bus arrives. Lakes households with children at both ends often run the primary lesson first and the Diploma lesson after dinner, which is the only arrangement that fits both into one evening.

CoreAcross DP1 and DP2

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

The Diploma core carries up to three bonus points from the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay together, and CAS is a completion requirement rather than a graded one. None of it is taught in a daily timetabled lesson, so the work lands in the evening - the same evening a subject tutor wants - and that collision is the most common scheduling failure in DP2.

Lakes families routinely discover the Extended Essay problem in October of DP2, when the school's internal deadline and two internal assessments arrive together. Booking core coaching as a short block at three decision points, rather than as a weekly slot, is what keeps the subject hours intact through that fortnight.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Lakes families ask for most, with the component that usually eats the evening named for each. The scheduling consequence is in the description, because that is what this page is about.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route Higher Level sciences and engineering courses expect. Paper 3 at Higher Level is an extended investigation under time pressure, and it is the component that needs a long, undisturbed slot rather than a tired half hour. Best scheduled as a weekend morning in DP2 if the weekday evening is already full.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology-heavy and modelling-led, with a graphical display calculator assumed throughout. Sessions need the actual calculator in the student's hand, not a laptop emulator, which is worth checking before the first lesson. The exploration is the piece that overruns and should be coached in blocks.

Physics

HL and SL

Problem-solving under time pressure, and the subject where Lakes students most often arrive with the content learned and the technique missing. Needs a full hour with past-paper questions timed, which rules out the 16:00 slot for a student who has just stepped off a bus from Al Barsha South.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and the energetics topics carry most of the lost marks at Higher Level. The internal assessment is a single investigation with a strict honesty boundary: a tutor questions the design and reads the student's draft, and writes none of it. Fits a weekday evening better than maths does.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume-heavy, with command terms doing more work than students expect. Short, frequent sessions beat long ones, so two 45-minute slots a week often fit a Lakes timetable where one 90-minute block does not. Data-based questions are the fastest marks to recover.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and the evaluation paragraph decide most grades. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries built on news articles, which students leave late and then write in the same week as something else. Deadline-led, so plan the term rather than the week.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study based, with tool application marked more strictly than tool recall. Higher Level students sit a pre-released case study that rewards structured preparation across months, making this a subject where a steady weekly hour genuinely outperforms a pre-exam sprint.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis against time, and the Individual Oral is a rehearsed assessment that benefits from recorded practice. Both need a quiet room and a working microphone, which in a villa with younger siblings means the slot matters more than the subject.

English B

HL and SL

Four skills assessed, with the productive ones carrying the marks that move. Speaking practice is the component families most often skip because it feels awkward at home; over video with a tutor it is simply the lesson, and it is where the quickest improvement sits.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies have to be recalled precisely and used as evidence rather than retold. The internal assessment is a replication of a simple experiment with a strict format, and the write-up is where students lose marks. A short coaching block beats a weekly slot for that component.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each chosen for how it fits an evening rather than for what it sounds like. All IB Gram teaching in the UAE is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video.

The fixed weekday evening slot

One hour a week, same day, same tutor, set after your school's actual finish time plus a buffer. The buffer is the point: a slot set at the earliest theoretically possible minute gets moved three times and then quietly stops. Lakes households usually land on 16:45 or 17:00 for a bussed secondary student.

  • Start time set after the bus, with fifteen minutes of slack built in
  • Same tutor weekly, so nothing is re-explained at the start of each lesson
  • Session notes the same evening, naming what moved and what did not
  • Moved for a school trip or tournament, not written off

Weekend morning for the long components

Some work does not fit a tired weekday hour. Higher Level Paper 3 investigations, timed unseen analysis for English Paper 1, and full past papers under exam conditions need a clear ninety minutes with a fresh student. A Saturday or Sunday morning slot is where those belong, and running one weekend session plus one weekday hour beats two weekday hours in DP2.

  • Ninety minutes, timed, under conditions rather than discussed
  • Marked live so the student sees where the marks went
  • Keeps the weekday evening free for school deadlines
  • Particularly suited to DP2 from January onwards

Core coaching in short blocks

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are deadline-driven rather than weekly. Three or four coaching sessions placed at the planning stage, the first full draft and the reflection are worth more than a standing slot, and they cost less in total. The student writes; the tutor questions, reads and marks against the criteria.

  • Timed to your school's internal deadlines, not to a generic calendar
  • Feedback on the student's own draft at each checkpoint
  • No text produced for the student at any stage
  • Leaves the weekly subject hour untouched during the autumn crunch

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Lakes

01

What a home-tutor search from a Lakes villa actually returns

Type the phrase and you will get three kinds of result. Agencies that will quote a visit at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour and send whoever is free within a twenty-minute drive. Classified listings from individual tutors, where the rate is lower and the vetting is yours to do. And online platforms, which is what IB Gram is, teaching one-to-one over live video at the AED 150 to AED 300 band for an equivalently qualified tutor. All three are legitimate purchases. They are not the same purchase.

The question worth asking first is not which is cheaper but which can actually supply the subject. A Diploma student takes three Higher Level subjects, and a Higher Level Chemistry specialist, a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist and a Higher Level History specialist do not live in the same neighbourhood. An in-home arrangement in The Lakes gives you whoever is geographically available for each one, which in practice means one good match and two compromises. A video lesson gives you the specialist for all three.

The second question is about the clock, and it is the one this page is built around. In-home tutoring in Emirates Living is priced with the drive inside it, and that drive happens during the worst part of the Dubai afternoon. The tutor who has to be in Hattan at 16:30 leaves Al Barsha at 16:00 and arrives flustered or late. The lesson that starts fifteen minutes late ends on time, so you have bought forty-five minutes at the sixty-minute rate, every week, for a year.

So the honest position. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service and nobody arrives at a Lakes address under any arrangement we sell. The phrase in the heading is the phrase parents type, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a redirect. The answer is that the thing you want - a specialist teaching your child one-to-one in your own house, at a time that works - is available, over video, and the comparison two sections down sets out exactly what you gain and what you give up.

02

The Lakes weekday, bell to screen

  • Confirm your own school's bell times; these are the common Dubai bands, not a schedule
  • Add fifteen minutes to the earliest slot and defend it rather than optimise it
  • Sibling pairs at different schools need two slots, not one shared evening
  • Book around the activity block instead of hoping it moves

Dubai secondary days commonly end between 14:45 and 15:30, and most Dubai private schools now run a Monday-to-Friday week after the 2022 change, with a shortened Friday. Between the final bell and a child sitting down at a desk in The Lakes there is a bus queue, a loop with several stops, and the Al Barsha or Al Sufouh afternoon. The table below sets out what that adds up to, by catchment, so a slot can be chosen from evidence rather than optimism.

Read it as a floor rather than a timetable. The earliest column is the earliest a lesson can start on a normal day with nothing going wrong. A slot set at that minute will be missed whenever the bus is late, a club overruns or a sibling needs collecting, and three missed starts is usually the end of a weekly arrangement. The working recommendation in Emirates Living is to add fifteen minutes to the floor and then protect that time absolutely.

Two patterns show up repeatedly in Lakes households. First, the child who attends school inside Emirates Living is home nearly an hour before the child bussed from Al Barsha South, so sibling pairs at different schools need staggered slots rather than a shared evening. Second, the activity block does more damage than traffic does: a swim squad or a football academy on two evenings removes those evenings entirely, and the family that books around them rather than hoping keeps the arrangement alive.

One practical note on the room. An online lesson needs a screen the student can write beside, a microphone that works, and a door. In a villa with younger siblings the dining table at 17:00 is not that place. Families who set up a fixed corner - desk, headset, calculator, the school's own textbook - lose less of each lesson to logistics than families who relocate every week. It is a small thing that compounds across forty sessions.

What the travel premium buys, and what it costs you

The in-home premium is real and it is quantifiable. Dubai in-home visits are published at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 rate work placing the common band at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent listings running to AED 500. An equivalently qualified tutor teaching online is quoted at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE support from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and TutorChase quoting AED 270 for specialist work. The gap is the car, not the credential.

What the premium genuinely buys is worth stating fairly. A person in the room can see a student's page without asking them to hold it up, can stop a phone being picked up, and does not depend on the household's internet. For a younger child who will not sit still, or a student who needs supervision as much as teaching, that is a real purchase and some Lakes families should make it. Nobody should pretend otherwise.

What it costs is the tutor pool and the clock. Inside a twenty-minute radius of Emirates Living there are a limited number of tutors who can teach Higher Level Physics to a DP2 student, and in a given term some of them are full. The in-home model asks you to take the best available within that radius; the video model asks you to take the best available for the subject. Over three Higher Level subjects, that difference is larger than the hourly rate difference, and it compounds across two years.

The table puts the two side by side on the dimensions that actually differ for a Lakes household. It is a comparison of delivery models rather than of named companies, and the rates in it are other providers' published figures read in October 2026. IB Gram sells only the online column; the in-home column is there because it is the honest alternative and because a parent typing this search deserves to see both sets of numbers before choosing.

DP1 and DP2 need different weeks, not different tutors

  • No specific IB session or results date is published here; confirm yours with the school's IB coordinator
  • Core coaching in blocks protects the subject hour through the DP2 autumn
  • Ninety minutes once beats sixty minutes twice for timed practice
  • Three hours a week in a bussed household is usually one hour too many

The most common scheduling mistake in The Lakes is booking the same weekly hour for two years. DP1 and DP2 are not the same job. DP1 is content acquisition with internal assessments appearing towards the end; DP2 is deadlines first, then revision, then examinations, with the core work colliding with everything in the autumn. The sensible hour count changes across the two years, and so does what that hour should contain.

In DP1, one weekly hour per difficult subject is usually right, and the content is the content: building the topics as the school teaches them, with past-paper questions used to check rather than to cram. The useful addition is a short block in the spring on whichever internal assessment the school starts first, normally a science investigation or the Mathematics exploration. That block is three or four sessions, not a new standing slot, and it prevents the autumn pile-up in DP2.

DP2 autumn is the fortnight that breaks timetables. Internal assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay draft and the Theory of Knowledge essay all land within a few weeks of each other at most Dubai schools, and the subject tutoring hour gets cannibalised to deal with them. The fix is to plan for it: move core coaching into blocks placed at the known deadlines, keep the subject hour, and accept that for three weeks the subject hour will be used for the subject's internal assessment rather than for new content.

From January in DP2, the shape changes again. Timed practice under conditions becomes the most valuable hour of the week, and it needs ninety minutes with a fresh student rather than sixty with a tired one. That is the point where a weekend morning slot earns its place and a second weekday evening does not. The table sets out the whole two years, term by term, with an hour count that a Lakes evening can actually absorb.

Two children, one router, one evening

  • Use the natural arrival gap between schools as the stagger
  • Headsets, not separate rooms, solve two lessons at once
  • A writing surface beside the screen is worth more than a bigger screen
  • One tutor per child per weak subject; shared tutors drift into homework help

Lakes villas commonly hold two or three school-age children, and the evening they share is finite. The arithmetic is unforgiving: two one-hour lessons between 16:45 and 19:00, with dinner in the middle, works only if the two slots are genuinely staggered and both students have somewhere to sit. Stacking them back to back in the same room produces one good lesson and one in which somebody is listening to the other lesson.

Start from the arrival times rather than from preference. A child at Emirates International School Meadows is home around 15:30; a sibling bussed from Al Barsha South arrives closer to 16:30. That hour of difference is the staggering, free of charge: the younger child takes 16:00, the older takes 17:15, and the evening holds. Households that ignore the arrival gap end up with both lessons after 18:00, and the second one is taught to a tired student.

The technical side is smaller than families expect but not nothing. Two simultaneous video lessons on a domestic connection are generally fine; two in the same room are not, because the microphones fight. Headsets solve it for under a few hundred dirhams. What matters more is that each student has a surface to write on beside the screen and a door that closes, because the lesson a tutor can see into is the lesson they can actually mark.

One scheduling rule saves more Lakes arrangements than any other: do not give two children the same tutor to save money unless the subjects and the weak points genuinely overlap. A tutor alternating between an MYP 3 science criterion and a DP2 Chemistry internal assessment is running two unrelated jobs in fortnightly instalments and will end up supervising homework for both. Two tutors, two slots, two diagnoses is the arrangement that survives a full year.

06

The Monday-to-Friday week, the short Friday, and where the weekend went

Dubai's school week changed and the tutoring week has not caught up. Most private schools in the emirate now run Monday to Friday with a shortened Friday, though a small number kept a Sunday-to-Thursday pattern, so the first thing to check is your own school's calendar rather than a general rule. What follows from the common pattern is that Friday afternoon became the most under-used teaching slot in the city and Saturday morning became the most contested one.

A shortened Friday puts a secondary student home by about 12:15 to 13:15. That is a fresh student with an entire afternoon in front of them, and it is the single best slot in a Lakes week for anything that needs ninety undisturbed minutes: a full past paper under conditions, a Higher Level Paper 3 investigation, an unseen analysis for English Paper 1. Families who use it get their timed practice done without touching a weekday evening.

Saturday morning is the slot everyone wants, which means it goes first and it competes with sport. Sunday is quieter and, for a Monday-to-Friday school, has the advantage of landing the day before the school week restarts, so work done on Sunday is still in the student's head on Monday. For a household running one weekday hour plus one longer session, Friday afternoon or Sunday morning is usually the better second slot, and both are easier to book than Saturday.

The holiday question follows the same logic. The long Dubai summer and the winter break are when most Lakes families travel, and because lessons are over live video the timetable can follow a trip rather than pausing for it - subject to a time-zone conversation if the family is far west. A pause is also perfectly reasonable and costs nothing structurally. The only break worth protecting is the one before DP1 starts, where six weeks of bridging work changes the following year.

07

Ramadan, Eid and the examination term in the same calendar

  • Set the Ramadan slot before Ramadan starts, not in the first week of it
  • Post-iftar suits Diploma students; early afternoon suits younger children
  • Front-load timed practice into the weeks before, if exams sit close
  • Cambridge zone timetables differ; use the one your centre is allocated to

Ramadan reshapes a Lakes evening completely, and a tutoring arrangement that ignores it loses a month. School days shorten, the household eats after sunset, and the hours between the end of school and iftar are low-energy for a fasting student. The practical answer is to move the slot rather than to pause: either a late-morning or early-afternoon session when the school day has ended early, or a post-iftar slot once the family has eaten.

Post-iftar works better than most families expect for Diploma students, because it is quiet, the student has eaten, and there is no bus to catch afterwards. It does not work for younger children, who are usually finished for the day by then. A household with both should expect to run the MYP child in the early afternoon and the DP student after iftar during that month, which is a different shape from the rest of the year and needs setting up before Ramadan starts, not during it.

The timing matters more in some years than others because Ramadan moves earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar, which changes how close it sits to the spring examination term. In a year where it falls near the mock examinations or the final weeks before the May session, the sensible plan is to front-load revision into the weeks before it and to use Ramadan for lighter, shorter, more frequent sessions rather than for ninety-minute timed papers.

Two adjacent calendar facts are worth having in front of you. Cambridge runs its International GCSE and International A Level examinations in June and November series, with centres allocated to one of six administrative zones and a warning that the correct zone timetable must be used. Pearson Edexcel runs May/June and November series and publishes provisional timetables in advance. For the IB, no session or results date is published on this page: confirm your child's dates with the school's IB coordinator or on the IB's own site.

08

What a tutor may do with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

This is the part of a Diploma arrangement where a tutor can do real harm, so the boundary is worth stating in full rather than gesturing at. The Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay are assessed work that must be the student's own, submitted with a declaration to that effect. The student has a supervisor at school. A tutor is an additional reader, and an additional reader has a narrow and genuinely useful role.

What that role contains: questioning whether a research question is answerable in 4,000 words; checking that the methodology will produce evidence rather than opinion; reading a draft the student has written and saying which assessment criterion is not yet met; rehearsing the reflection sessions so the student can discuss their own process; and teaching the difference between describing a source and evaluating one. That work is coaching, it is permitted, and it is where most of the recoverable marks sit.

What it does not contain: a tutor never writes the Extended Essay, never drafts a Theory of Knowledge essay, and never rewrites a student's paragraph into their own prose. Line-editing a draft until the words are the tutor's is authorship by instalment, and the IB treats authorship as the student's responsibility. A submission that is not the student's own work is a malpractice matter with consequences for the student, not a service complaint against a provider. Providers in this market do sell finished coursework; that is the risk being sold.

The practical test for a Lakes parent is simple. Ask the tutor what they will send back after reading a draft. The right answer is questions, criterion references and a list of what the student needs to decide. The wrong answer is a marked-up document with replacement sentences in it. Both look like help; only one of them leaves the student able to defend the work in a reflection session with their own supervisor.

09

Starting from The Lakes, and what we cannot promise

  • Send the real door time, not the school's finish time
  • Free trial lesson, one subject, no card details collected
  • Availability and tutor location disclosed before you commit
  • No grade promises; a six-session review with stopping as an option

The start is short. Tell us the school, the year, the subjects and - most usefully for this page - what time the student is genuinely through the door. We come back with a tutor who teaches that subject at that level and a slot that sits after the bus with a buffer. The trial lesson is free, covers one subject, and takes no card details, and you decide afterwards whether the match is right.

The limit is availability, and it is worth hearing before you book rather than after. For mainstream Diploma subjects a match usually takes a few days. For a narrow combination - Higher Level Philosophy, a less common Language B, Music, or an unusual Higher and Standard pairing that needs one tutor - it can take longer, and the tutor may be based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time. We say which, and from where, before anything is agreed. No provider researched in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

What we will not do is promise an outcome. No grade, no point total, no improvement figure, and nobody can honestly offer one. What is measurable is narrower and more useful: the criterion or component targeted, the work marked between sessions, and whether the mark on that component moved by the review point at six sessions. If it has not, the options include changing the focus, changing the tutor, or stopping, and we will say which we think it is.

One last practical matter. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years to a wide list of eligible categories. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, Ministry, IB or Cambridge accreditation and claims none; the regulators are named on this page to explain what each governs, not as a badge.

Where we tutor

The Lakes clusters and the communities around them

Each cluster inside The Lakes sits on a different bus loop, and the loop decides what time a lesson can start. These are the practical differences a timetable has to account for.

Deema

Towards the Emirates Golf Club side, usually earlier on the loop out and earlier back. A 16:15 start is realistic here on a normal school day, which makes it the one cluster where an early slot holds.

Forat

Mid-loop and close to the community centre, so the bus arrives after Deema and before Hattan. Households here commonly settle on 16:45, which also absorbs a fifteen-minute delay without collapsing the lesson.

Ghadeer

Backs onto the lake frontage with a longer internal drive. Parents who collect by car rather than use the bus often get back earlier than the bus families, so the workable slot depends on which the household uses.

Hattan

Largest villas and the furthest internal stop on several routes. Expect the child through the door nearer 16:40 than 16:00, which is why a 17:00 slot is the standard recommendation for Hattan households.

Maeen

Compact and close to the exit onto Sheikh Zayed Road, so car collection is quick and bus drop-off is late. Siblings at different schools frequently arrive forty minutes apart here, which forces staggered sessions.

Zulal

Quietest cluster and the one where families most often report the child doing activities straight after school rather than coming home. Later slots dominate, and a 18:00 lesson is normal rather than unusual.

The Meadows

Next door and sharing several bus routes, with Emirates International School Meadows inside the community. Lakes families with a child at that school get the earliest start times available in Emirates Living.

Emirates Hills

Feeds Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Dubai British School Emirates Hills. Short commute, so the constraint for these students is the activity block rather than the bus.

The Greens and The Views

Apartment stock on the Marina side, closer to the Al Sufouh corridor. Shorter journeys but a noisier home environment, which makes the quiet-room question a real part of planning an online lesson.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Lakes

The Al Barsha and Al Barsha South corridor

Where the largest share of Lakes secondary students study. Secondary days in Dubai commonly end between 14:45 and 15:30, and the return bus into Emirates Living at that hour is what sets the earliest realistic lesson time. Confirm your own school's bell times before fixing a slot.

  • Safa Community School
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Repton School Al Barsha

Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools reachable without crossing Sheikh Zayed Road, and the only ones that give a Lakes household a genuinely early evening. A child walking or driving back from inside Emirates Living can hold a 16:15 slot that a bussed child cannot.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School, The Greens

Al Sufouh and the Marina corridor

Reached down Al Sufouh Road, with the return leg crossing the busiest stretch of the afternoon. Students here are frequently the last home in a Lakes household, which is why a sibling pair at different schools almost always needs two different slots.

Schools are named to describe the local catchment a Lakes family is timetabling around; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement by any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the clock, not just the subject

The most useful first message names the school, the year, the subject and the time the student is actually through the door in The Lakes. A tutor matched to a 16:30 slot that was never realistic is a tutor you will replace in six weeks, so the arrival time does more work than the subject label does.

  2. 02

We match on subject and on the slot

A tutor who teaches that subject at that level and who is free in the window your evening has, on Gulf Standard Time. If the subject is narrow we say how long the match will take and whether the tutor is UAE-based or teaching in from elsewhere, before you agree to anything.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, one subject, no card

Sixty minutes with the student's own work on screen. You are checking two things: whether the tutor finds the same weakness the school's reports do, and whether the time of day worked for your child. Both answers are clearer after one lesson than after any amount of discussion.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and build in the buffer

The agreed slot sits fifteen minutes after the realistic door time, and it is protected. School trips, tournaments and travel move a session rather than cancelling it. During Ramadan the slot shifts, including to post-iftar for Diploma students, and that shift is agreed in advance.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions, with stopping allowed

Before the second lesson we write down the component being targeted and how you will know it moved. At six sessions we look at the mark on that component. The honest options are continue, change focus, change tutor, or stop, and we will tell you which one we think applies.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The timetable is designed around your bus, not ours

Slots are set from the school's actual finish time plus the return journey into The Lakes plus a buffer. That is why our sessions are still running in March. A lesson scheduled at the earliest theoretically possible minute is a lesson that gets moved three times and then abandoned.

The specialist, not the nearest available person

Because the lesson is over video, the tutor is chosen for teaching your child's subject at your child's level. A Diploma student with three Higher Level subjects needs three specialists, and three specialists do not live within twenty minutes of Emirates Living. That is the whole of the argument.

In-home rates published, not hidden

The Dubai in-home band of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour is printed on this page alongside the online band of AED 150 to AED 300, with each figure attributed to the provider or rate study that published it in 2026. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all.

The honesty line on the core, written down

A tutor questions a research question, reads what the student wrote and names the criterion that is not yet met. No Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or internal assessment is produced for a student. The test is what comes back after a draft: questions, or replacement sentences.

Sessions move rather than disappear

Emirates Living runs on tournaments, school trips and travel. A missed session is rescheduled within the same week where the tutor's diary allows, and the Ramadan shift is agreed before Ramadan begins rather than improvised during it.

Coverage limits stated before you book

Where no UAE-based specialist is free for a narrow Diploma subject we say so and name the alternative, including when the tutor is outside the UAE teaching into your evening. That disclosure is the opposite of the practice in this market, where non-local delivery is routinely concealed.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Lakes: your questions answered

Will an IB home tutor actually come to our villa in The Lakes?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; villa visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Lakes families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared screen and the student's work marked during the lesson. Agencies in Dubai do sell in-home visits, at a published AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalently qualified tutor online. The difference is travel, and the comparison table on this page sets out what that premium buys and what it costs you.

What time can a DP2 student living in The Lakes realistically start a weekday lesson?+

If they attend school inside Emirates Living, about 16:00. If they are bussed from Al Barsha or Al Barsha South, 16:45 is the first slot that holds. From Al Sufouh, the Marina corridor or the Motor City belt, 17:00. Those are floors on a normal day, so add fifteen minutes and protect that time. Dubai secondary days commonly end between 14:45 and 15:30, and the return loop into The Lakes is the variable. Hattan and Zulal households, being furthest along several internal routes, should assume the later end of each band.

Our child is bussed back from Al Barsha South. How much does that push the session back?+

Typically twenty to thirty-five minutes beyond the final bell, with the inbound loop through Emirates Living adding more for the clusters furthest in. A child who leaves school at 15:15 is commonly through the door in The Lakes between 15:50 and 16:20, which makes 16:45 the earliest slot worth committing to. The reason to use the later time rather than the earlier one is simple: three missed starts usually end a weekly arrangement, and a bus is late more than three times a term. Choose the slot that survives a bad week.

Is a Friday afternoon session a good idea now that Dubai schools finish early?+

It is the most under-used slot in the week and often the best one. Most Dubai private schools now run Monday to Friday with a shortened Friday, putting a secondary student home around 12:15 to 13:15 with a whole afternoon ahead and no bus to catch. That makes it the right slot for anything needing ninety undisturbed minutes: a full past paper under conditions, a Higher Level Paper 3 investigation, or timed unseen analysis. Check your own school's calendar first, because a small number of Dubai schools kept a Sunday-to-Thursday week.

How many hours a week does a DP1 student need, and does DP2 need more?+

DP1 generally works at one hour a week per genuinely difficult subject, plus a short three or four session block in the spring when the first internal assessment appears. DP2 is not more hours but differently shaped ones: during the autumn, when internal assessments, the Extended Essay draft and the Theory of Knowledge essay collide, core coaching goes into blocks at the deadlines and the subject hour is used for that subject's own coursework. From January, one weekday hour plus ninety timed weekend minutes beats two weekday evenings.

Can both my children have online lessons on the same evening in a Lakes villa?+

Yes, and the natural arrival gap usually does the staggering for you. A child at a school inside Emirates Living is home around 15:30 while a sibling bussed from Al Barsha arrives nearer 16:30, so 16:00 and 17:15 fits both without either lesson running late. Two simultaneous video lessons on a domestic connection are generally fine, but not in the same room, because the microphones interfere; a pair of headsets solves it. Each student needs a writing surface beside the screen and a door that closes.

What internet connection and setup does an online IB lesson actually need?+

Less than families expect. A standard Dubai home connection carries a one-to-one video lesson comfortably, including a second one at the same time. What matters more is the physical setup: a headset so the microphone picks up the student rather than the room, a surface to write on beside the screen, the student's own textbook and calculator within reach, and a door. A graphical display calculator must be the real device rather than a laptop emulator for Applications and Interpretation work, which is worth checking before the first lesson.

Does the tutor follow my child's own school deadlines or a generic plan?+

The school's. Internal assessment deadlines, mock windows and Extended Essay checkpoints are set by each school and they differ, so a generic plan is wrong for almost everyone. Send the school's published deadline list at the start and the tutoring plan is built backwards from it: coursework coaching placed at the planning stage, the first draft and the reflection, with the weekly subject hour protected around them. For examination dates, confirm with your school's IB coordinator, since no IB session date is published on this page.

During Ramadan, what time of day works best for a Lakes household?+

Yes, and for Diploma students it often works better than the rest of the year. The household has eaten, the house is quiet and there is no bus the next morning at the usual hour. Set it up before Ramadan begins rather than in the first week. Younger children are usually finished for the day by then, so a household with both an MYP and a DP child should expect to run the younger one in the early afternoon, when school days are shortened, and the older one after iftar.

What does an in-home IB tutor charge in Dubai, and how much of that is the travel?+

Published in-home rates run AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai work placing the common band at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent listings reaching AED 500. Equivalently qualified tutors working online are quoted at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and TutorChase quoting AED 270. On those figures roughly AED 60 to AED 150 an hour is the drive. Monthly in-home packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits are also advertised in this market.

We travel between Dubai and abroad in the holidays. Can the timetable follow us?+

Usually yes, and this is one practical advantage of video delivery that an in-home arrangement cannot match. The constraint is time zones rather than geography: a trip eastwards or within a few hours of Gulf Standard Time changes little, while a long westward trip may need the slot moved to a morning. Tell us the dates in advance and the sessions are rescheduled rather than lost. A pause is equally reasonable, except in the summer before DP1, where bridging work genuinely changes the following year.

Which schools do children living in Hattan and Zulal usually attend?+

Mostly schools outside Emirates Living. The common destinations are the Al Barsha and Al Barsha South corridor, including Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Kings' School Al Barsha, Safa Community School and GEMS Wellington International School, with Dubai College and American School of Dubai on the Al Sufouh side. Inside Emirates Living the options are Emirates International School Meadows, Dubai British School Emirates Hills, Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Regent International School. Named schools here describe the catchment a family is timetabling around; no affiliation is implied.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay without crossing the IB honesty line?+

Yes, and the permitted work is substantial. A tutor can question whether a research question is answerable in 4,000 words, check that the methodology produces evidence, read a draft the student has written and name the assessment criterion not yet met, and rehearse the reflection sessions. What a tutor must never do is write the essay, draft sections of it, or rewrite paragraphs into their own prose. The test for a parent is what comes back after a draft: questions and criterion references, or replacement sentences. Only the first leaves the student able to defend the work.

What happens if the weekly slot keeps getting moved by school activities?+

Then the slot is wrong and it should be changed rather than endured. A session moved three times stops being weekly, and a non-weekly arrangement does not produce the feedback cycle that makes tutoring work. The fix is to book around the fixed activity block rather than hoping it shifts: if there is squad training on Monday and Wednesday, those evenings are gone, and Friday afternoon or Sunday morning is the better slot. Missed sessions are rescheduled within the same week where the tutor's diary allows, not forfeited.

Is a weekend morning session better than a weekday evening for a Diploma student?+

For timed work, clearly yes. A full past paper under conditions needs ninety minutes and a fresh student, and neither exists at 18:30 after a day at school and a bus home. From January of DP2 the highest-value hour of the week is usually a weekend or Friday-afternoon session spent on a timed paper, marked live, with the gaps it exposes worked on during the weekday hour. Saturday mornings compete with sport in Emirates Living, so Sunday or Friday afternoon is often both better and easier to book.

Send us the door time and we will build the week around it

Tell us the school, the year, the subjects and the time your child is genuinely through the door in The Lakes, and we will come back with a tutor who teaches that subject at that level and a slot that sits after the bus with a buffer in it. The trial lesson is free, covers one subject, and takes no card details. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; nobody arrives at a Lakes address, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. If the honest answer is that the evening has no room in it, we will say that and suggest Friday afternoon instead.
