IGCSE Tutor near me in The Lakes

Parents who search for an IGCSE tutor near me in The Lakes are usually working around a school that is nowhere near The Lakes. Most Emirates Living teenagers sit their IGCSEs in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South or Al Sufouh, come home on a bus, and have two genuinely free evenings a week once clubs and prep are counted. IB Gram teaches into those evenings one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial lesson.

  • Lessons scheduled around clubs and prep, not just the final bell
  • Permit position and tutor location stated before you commit
  • One-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time, work marked on screen
  • Free trial lesson in one subject, no card details collected

IB & IGCSE in The Lakes

Your child's school is not near you, and that changes the search

The Lakes has no secondary school inside it. Emirates Living as a whole has one IB continuum school, in The Meadows, and the British-curriculum schools that Lakes teenagers attend for IGCSE sit outside the community - mostly in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh, with a scatter down Al Khail Road into Motor City and Sports City. So a proximity search is being run from a house, about a school that is twenty-five minutes away, for a subject taught by somebody who probably lives near the school rather than near you.

That geography produces a specific problem. The tutors available within a short drive of Deema or Maeen are the ones who happen to live in Emirates Living or the communities beside it, and they teach whatever they teach. Your child needs a particular subject at a particular tier on a particular board - Cambridge 0580 Extended, say, or Pearson 4CH1 - and the intersection of 'lives nearby' and 'teaches that exact thing' is often empty. Hiring from a radius means hiring the available rather than the appropriate.

The second problem is the week rather than the map. A Year 10 or Year 11 student at a British-curriculum school in Dubai does not simply finish at 15:15 and become available. There is a prep load of an hour or more most nights, co-curricular commitments that the school expects to be honoured, and in many schools a fixture or a rehearsal that owns one evening entirely. Count those and most households find two evenings that can genuinely hold a lesson, not five.

State the delivery position plainly, since the phrase in the heading points the other way. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE - home visits are a service offered only in India, and nobody arrives at a Lakes address under any arrangement sold here. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the paper open on a shared screen and marked during the lesson. Dubai's in-home market does exist and is published at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against AED 150 to AED 300 online for equivalent credentials.

What the rest of this page covers is deliberately not a rate card. It sets out which schools The Lakes actually feeds and what each offers to 18. It explains how to check whether a tutor is legally permitted to teach your child, which is a free, two-day, two-year permit that almost nobody asks about. It names the five regulators covering UAE private schools, because four of them appear nowhere in the competing pages. And it covers the mandatory UAE subjects that run alongside IGCSE in every Dubai private school.

At a glance

  • No secondary school sits inside The Lakes; the IGCSE catchment is Al Barsha and Al Sufouh
  • Count prep and clubs before choosing a slot: most Year 11 weeks leave two free evenings
  • The UAE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • Dubai schools are regulated by KHDA; four other bodies cover the rest of the UAE
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are mandatory alongside any curriculum
  • Delivery is online one-to-one; nobody visits a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Lakes teenager meets two systems at 14 and three routes at 16. Knowing which one the school actually runs - and which regulator oversees it - is where a tutoring plan starts.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two-year courses with a syllabus code on every paper and tiering on most: 0580 Mathematics in Core or Extended, 0610, 0620 and 0625 in the sciences, 0500 First Language English. Examinations run in June and November series, with centres allocated to one of six administrative zones that each have their own timetable version.

Cambridge is the most common board at the schools Lakes children attend, though several split boards by department. Ask the examinations officer which board each subject is entered under and which zone the centre sits in, because Cambridge states that the correct zone timetable must be used and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other major international route, graded 9 to 1, coded 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher; the sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers. Series run in May/June and November.

Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and its November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the next day; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Plan from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level and AS Level

Three or four subjects studied in depth, which is where IGCSE grades become entry conditions rather than just results. Sixth forms set their own grade requirements per subject, and a Core or Foundation tier entry at 16 frequently cannot meet a science or mathematics condition at 17 regardless of the grade achieved.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the reported requirement is one accredited subject at Advanced Level at a grade of no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3. That makes the Year 11 grade set a documentation matter as well as a school one.

IB Diploma Programme

The alternative at 16 at the IB schools near Emirates Living: six subjects across Higher and Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, examined in the May session for UAE schools. Entry to Higher Level sciences normally assumes Extended or Higher tier IGCSE grades.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake added seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places, after six opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. For a Lakes family choosing at 16, the practical point is that the route is widening rather than narrowing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects are listed with both boards' codes, because a tutor matched to a subject label rather than to a code is being matched to the wrong paper. The note says what a Year 10 or 11 student most often needs in each.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended · Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher

The subject that gates most sixth-form routes, and the one where tier matters most: Cambridge Core is graded C to G and Extended A* to E, while Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5. Most of the recoverable marks sit in showing working and in the multi-step questions at the end of each paper.

Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0654 Double Award, 0653 Combined · Pearson 4SD0

The route most students take if they are not sitting three separate sciences. It is a different specification from the separate sciences, not a reduced version of them, so tutoring from separate-science material adds content the student will never be examined on. Confirm the code before the first lesson.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge centres enter either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper; Pearson examines practical skills inside the theory papers. Either way the recoverable marks are in units, circuit analysis and stating assumptions, all of which are written skills taught well on a shared screen.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Ionic equations, mole calculations and precise observation language carry most of the losses. A student who can recite the reactivity series still loses marks describing a colour change loosely. Written practice marked against the published criteria is the only format that shifts this.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Content volume rather than conceptual difficulty, with command terms doing the decisive work. Describe, explain and compare each demand a different answer shape, and a well-prepared student can lose half a question by choosing wrongly. Data and graph questions are the fastest recovery.

English Language

Cambridge 0500, 0510 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and the analysis questions carry the marks and both are technique-led. The common failure is retelling a passage where the question asked how the writer achieves an effect. Six to eight marked pieces of writing move this grade more than any amount of reading.

English Literature

Cambridge 0475 · Pearson 4ET1

Quotation accuracy and a sustained argument separate the top bands, and the unseen component punishes students who have only studied set texts. Timed essays marked against the criteria are the working format; discussion alone does not transfer to a paper under time pressure.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450, 0455 · Pearson 4BS1, 4EC1

Application to the stimulus material rather than definition recall. High-tariff evaluation questions ask for a judgement, and students who write everything they know land in the middle band. Diagram accuracy in economics is worth more marks than most students believe.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460, 0470 · Pearson 4GE1, 4HI1

Named examples with figures attached in geography, source evaluation in history. Both subjects punish generic answers, so the efficient work is building a small bank of well-rehearsed case studies rather than covering more of the specification.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies

KHDA mandatory streams, Arab and non-Arab

Mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Tutoring must follow the Ministry-set content, since different or additional material needs prior Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats built around a British-curriculum week rather than around an empty calendar. All IB Gram teaching in the UAE is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

One protected evening a week

A single hour on the evening that has no fixture, no rehearsal and the lightest prep load, set after the bus with a buffer. Protecting one evening properly beats booking three and losing two, and in a Year 11 week it is usually all that genuinely exists. Written work is set and marked between sessions.

  • Chosen against the school's co-curricular calendar, not around it
  • Same tutor weekly, matched to the syllabus code and tier
  • Written work marked between lessons, which is where the gain happens
  • Moved for a fixture rather than forfeited

Weekend or Friday-afternoon long sessions

Most Dubai private schools now run Monday to Friday with a shortened Friday, which puts a secondary student home by early afternoon with energy left. That is where a timed paper belongs: ninety minutes under conditions, marked immediately, with the gaps it exposes worked on during the weekday hour.

  • Ninety minutes with a fresh student, not a tired one
  • Full past paper timed, then marked line by line on screen
  • Scheduled against your centre's own zone timetable
  • Check your school's calendar; a few Dubai schools kept Sunday to Thursday

Short blocks at the decision points

Year 9 options, the post-mock analysis, and the final fortnight before a series are three moments where a few sessions are worth more than a standing slot. Each is a specific question - which subjects, which tier, which topics - and each can be answered in two or three hours rather than bought as a term.

  • Options-evening block: subject load, triple against combined science
  • Post-mock block: read the paper, not the grade
  • Pre-series block: topics that appear on every paper
  • Booked in advance because the dates are published

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Lakes

01

Why a proximity search fails subject by subject

The radius around The Lakes contains a certain number of tutors, and what they teach is fixed by who they are. Your child needs a specific board, a specific syllabus code and a specific tier - Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson 4CH1, Cambridge 0654 Double Award - and the overlap between 'available within fifteen minutes of Ghadeer' and 'has taught that exact specification recently' is frequently empty. The search returns results anyway, because a search always does.

This matters more in IGCSE than people assume, because the tiers carry hard ceilings. Cambridge Core papers are graded C to G and Extended A* to E; Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5 while Higher runs 9 to 4 with an allowed 3. A tutor who teaches the wrong tier is not merely less effective, they are preparing material that cannot be examined. That is the clearest argument against hiring by distance, and it costs a term to discover.

The second failure is subject count. A Year 11 student is sitting eight to ten subjects and, realistically, needs help in two. Those two are rarely both covered by one local tutor, so a proximity search either produces two separate in-home arrangements, two sets of travel premiums and two diaries to coordinate, or one tutor stretched across both subjects who ends up supervising homework. Neither is what the parent set out to buy.

Set against that, what a video arrangement changes is only the delivery, and it changes it in the direction of supply. The tutor is chosen because they teach 0580 Extended, and the lesson starts when the student sits down rather than when a car finds a parking space. For a Lakes household, where the school is already twenty-five minutes away, the proximity of the tutor was never the thing keeping the arrangement together. The slot was.

02

Which schools The Lakes feeds, and what each offers to 18

  • Confirm curriculum and sixth-form routes with each school; provision changes between intakes
  • Inspection reports are published by KHDA; read them at the source rather than second hand
  • No inspection rating is reproduced on this page
  • Named schools are local context; no relationship with IB Gram is implied

A Lakes family's realistic school list is a ring around Emirates Living rather than anything inside it, and the route a child takes to 18 is decided by which school in that ring they attend. Some run the British curriculum straight through to A Level. Some run the IB continuum. A few offer both at sixth form, which is the most useful arrangement for a family that has not decided. The table sets out the local picture with the regulator named, because the regulator is who publishes the inspection report.

Reading an inspection report before reading a tutor profile is worth the half hour. Dubai private schools are inspected by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. The report says what a school is strong and weak at by phase and subject, which is a better guide to where tutoring will be needed than any general reputation. We do not reproduce ratings here; read them on the regulator's own site, where they are published and current.

A scale note worth having. Dubai's private school sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curricula at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. That mix explains the tutoring market a Lakes family is shopping in: British-curriculum demand dominates, which is why IGCSE tutors are easier to find than MYP ones and why the IB specialists concentrate at the top of the price range.

One more fact that affects planning rather than price. Dubai added seven new private schools for 2026-27 - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. And KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for 2026-27, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Supply is widening and the fixed cost is flat.

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

  • The permit is free; a provider quoting a permit cost has it wrong
  • Stated processing time is two working days through MoHRE's own channels
  • No fine schedule is published; disregard amounts circulating online
  • A centre permit and an individual permit are different things

Almost nobody asks, and the answer is both simple and free. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

The eligible categories are deliberately broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. That breadth is the reason the low end of the Dubai rate market exists at all - a university student on a free permit can legitimately charge AED 45 an hour, and some do. It also means there is no honest reason for a tutor to be without one.

Two cautions. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts has been published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified and ignored. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested ahead of expiry.

IB Gram is not a Dubai training institute, occupies no UAE office, and holds no permit, registration, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. The regulators are named on this page to explain what each one does. Any provider implying endorsement by one of them should be asked to produce the permit or centre number, and the phrase to be most careful of in this market is a claim of regulator approval attached to tutors.

Who regulates the school your child attends

A Dubai parent rarely needs the whole map, until the family moves emirate or a relative asks. Private schools in the UAE are overseen by five bodies and only one of them is KHDA. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education there. Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education.

The powers are not identical, and the differences matter if you move. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods - so curriculum and fee approval sits with the emirate regulator rather than only inspection. In Dubai, KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, publishes inspection reports and, in May 2026, confirmed the fee position for the following academic year.

There is also a federal baseline worth knowing. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That single rule is why a British-curriculum school in Al Barsha teaches Arabic alongside IGCSE, and why an IB school in The Meadows does the same. It is not a school policy; it is the federal floor every emirate regulator builds on.

One Abu Dhabi rule is worth carrying even from Dubai, because Lakes families do relocate within the UAE. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct to similar effect. Treat that as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document before relying on the exact wording. The practical instruction holds in any emirate: do not go looking for your child's own class teacher privately.

The after-school week at a British-curriculum school

  • Count prep and fixtures before counting free evenings; two is the usual answer
  • Pick one weekday evening, protect it, and put long sessions on Friday or the weekend
  • Avoid scheduling a lesson directly after prep in the same subject
  • Stagger siblings using the gap between their schools' arrival times

Parents choosing a tutoring slot usually subtract the journey from the final bell and stop there. The schools Lakes teenagers attend subtract rather more. A Year 10 or Year 11 student typically carries an hour or more of prep most nights, set by subject teachers who are not coordinating with each other. Co-curricular commitments are expected to be honoured rather than optional, and in many schools a fixture, a rehearsal or a squad session owns one evening outright.

Work it through for a Hattan household. The bus arrives at 16:35. Prep is ninety minutes on a normal Tuesday. Squad training runs Monday and Wednesday. There is a Friday fixture in season. Dinner is at seven. What remains is Thursday, and possibly Tuesday if prep is light, which is two evenings - not five. A provider proposing three sessions a week into that week is proposing something the household will cancel, and cancellations are how arrangements die.

The right response is to pick the single best evening and defend it absolutely, then put anything longer at the weekend or on Friday afternoon. Most Dubai private schools now run Monday to Friday with a shortened Friday, so a secondary student is often home by about 12:15 to 13:15 with the afternoon intact. That is the slot for a timed paper, and it is the most under-used teaching time in the city. Check your own school's calendar, because a small number kept a Sunday-to-Thursday week.

Two household rules follow. First, the lesson should not sit immediately after prep on the same subject, because the student has nothing left for it; alternate the subjects across the evening instead. Second, where two children share one evening, use the natural arrival gap between their schools as the stagger rather than stacking them back to back in the same room. Headsets solve the audio problem; nothing solves a child listening to their sibling's lesson.

06

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside IGCSE

  • Mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs; combined classes are prohibited
  • Instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, 25 minutes advised as a minimum
  • Different or additional content requires prior Ministry permission

Every Dubai private school teaches these subjects regardless of the international curriculum it is licensed for, and essentially no competing tutoring page in this market mentions them. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 the equivalent point for schools whose year begins in April. For a Lakes family this is timetable reality rather than an optional extra.

The organisational rules are specific and they explain things parents find confusing. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies.

Two further details matter to anyone arranging support. Instructional time for these subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. And teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic are required by KHDA to hold appropriate approval from the regulator to teach those subjects - a concrete credential point a parent can ask about.

The constraint on tutoring is real and worth stating. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is prohibited. So support in these subjects means working with the school's own set material rather than importing a syllabus from elsewhere, and a provider offering an alternative curriculum for Arabic or Islamic Education is describing something that is not permitted. Ask what material will be used before the first lesson.

07

Year 9 options and the grades that gate sixth form

  • Decide triple or combined science from the intended route at 16, not from comfort
  • Tier sets a hard ceiling and locks at the board's final entry deadline
  • Keep at least five accredited subjects outside Arabic and Islamic education
  • Confirm equivalency requirements on moe.gov.ae rather than from a tutoring page

The options evening in Year 9 is the cheapest high-value hour in this whole sequence, and it is usually spent on the wrong question. Parents ask which subjects the child enjoys. The decisive questions are narrower: how many subjects, triple science or combined, which tier each subject will be entered at, and whether the resulting grade set keeps the sixth-form routes open that the student might want at 16.

Triple science against combined is the one that recurs. Three separate sciences - Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 - produce three grades and the strongest position for Higher Level or A Level sciences. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 produces a double award across all three. Combined or double award is a perfectly sound route for a student not heading into science at 16, and a liability for one who is, so the choice should follow the intended destination rather than the current comfort level.

Tier is the other gate and it is less visible. Cambridge Core papers cap at grade C and Extended run to A*; Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5 against Higher's 9. A sixth form asking for a grade 6 in mathematics cannot be satisfied from a Foundation entry at all, however well the student performs. Because tier decisions effectively lock at the board's final entry deadline - which sits months before the examination - the conversation has to happen in Year 10, not in the spring of Year 11.

There is a documentation layer too, which almost nobody raises at an options evening. The reported Ministry of Education requirement for the British track is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. A student dropping to a very small subject load, or counting Arabic among their five, can meet a school's requirements and still have a documentation problem later. Verify the current rule at the source.

08

Arriving mid-stream: transferring into IGCSE from another system

Lakes households move, and a student arriving into Year 10 or Year 11 from another curriculum meets a specific set of gaps rather than a general difficulty. From an Indian curriculum the usual gaps are extended written answers against command terms and the practical-skills written components, because the content coverage is often ahead rather than behind. From an American system the gap is typically depth in a smaller number of subjects and the unfamiliarity of a terminal examination.

From the IB Middle Years Programme the gap is assessment style rather than content. An MYP student is used to criterion marking out of 8 against published descriptors and to coursework-style tasks; IGCSE asks for timed answers to a mark scheme with command terms carrying strict meanings. That transition is six to eight weeks of marked written practice, and it is almost entirely technique. It is also the transition most likely to be mistaken for a content problem and tutored expensively in the wrong direction.

The practical sequence for a transferring student is the same in each case. Get the syllabus codes and tiers from the new school in writing. Find out which papers have already been sat if the student arrives mid-series, because that constrains the options. Ask the examinations officer whether the entry deadline for the next series has passed. Then diagnose with one marked piece of written work before buying any hours, because the gap is rarely where the previous school's reports suggest.

On timing, the entry deadline is the hard constraint and it is easy to miss when arriving. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE series shows the shape of it in published dates: the final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the entry that fixed the subject list for those papers had closed in the preceding summer. Cambridge's June and November series, the two a UAE candidate can enter, work on the same lag, with June entries closing in the spring on a date printed on the centre's statement of entry. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so plan against the live document rather than a restated date. A family arriving in January should ask about entries in their first week, not their first term.

  • Tutor location and match time disclosed before you commit
  • No grade promises, no borrowed accreditation, no redistributed board material

Four things make the first lesson useful: the school, the year, the syllabus codes with their tiers, and the one evening in the week that is genuinely free. We come back with a tutor who teaches that code at that tier and who can teach in that window, plus a proposed focus for the first three lessons and a rate. The trial lesson is free, covers one subject, and takes no card details collected to book it.

The limit worth hearing in advance is availability for narrow combinations. Mainstream IGCSE subjects match within a few days. A specific code at a specific tier in a less common subject, or a request for one tutor across two boards, can take longer, and the tutor may be based outside the UAE teaching into Gulf Standard Time. We say which, and from where, before anything is agreed - something no competitor page researched in this market does at all.

What we will not say is as load-bearing as what we will. No grade promise and no improvement figure, because neither can be evidenced. No statistic about past students without the number, the date and the method behind it. No claim of approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, because IB Gram holds none. No UAE office, because there isn't one. And no tutor described as an examiner unless their current status can be shown.

Nor do we supply board material. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson; we reference them, cite the official URL and link out. A provider sending you a pack of mark schemes is distributing someone else's copyright, and for unreleased material it is a malpractice exposure for the student. Official past material is available through your school's examinations officer and from the boards' own sites.

Where we tutor

The Lakes and the catchment around it

Six clusters inside The Lakes and the communities beside them, described by where their teenagers actually go to school and what that does to a tutoring week.

Deema

Golf-club side of The Lakes. Children here are frequently on the earlier part of the Al Barsha bus loop, which is why Deema households are the ones most likely to manage a 16:15 lesson.

Forat

Mid-loop, close to the community centre. The practical consequence is a predictable arrival time, which makes a fixed weekly slot easier to hold here than in the clusters at the far end of a route.

Ghadeer

Lake frontage with a longer internal drive. Families who collect by car arrive earlier than bus families from the same street, so two neighbours can have quite different workable slots.

Hattan

Large villas, furthest internal stop on several routes, and the cluster where a Year 11 student most often walks in after 16:30. A 17:00 slot is the standard recommendation rather than a fallback.

Maeen

Close to the exit onto Sheikh Zayed Road. Sibling pairs at two different schools commonly arrive forty minutes apart here, which forces staggered sessions rather than a shared evening.

Zulal

Quietest cluster, and the one where children most often go straight to an activity rather than home. Later slots dominate and a 18:00 lesson is normal rather than an exception.

The Meadows and The Springs

Share bus routes with The Lakes. The Meadows has Emirates International School Meadows inside it, so Meadows teenagers are more often on MYP 4 and 5 than on IGCSE.

Emirates Hills and The Greens

Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School sit here on the British route, giving these households the shortest commute in Emirates Living and the earliest realistic lesson times.

Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh

Where most Lakes IGCSE students actually study. This is also where most in-home tutors are based, which is why a visit to an Emirates Living address is quoted at the upper end of the published range.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Lakes

Schools The Lakes feeds for Years 10 and 11

The British-curriculum schools Lakes teenagers most commonly attend for IGCSE, all outside Emirates Living and all regulated by KHDA. Each sets its own prep expectations and co-curricular calendar, which matters more to a tutoring timetable than the distance does.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools reachable without crossing Sheikh Zayed Road. Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School run the British route; Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills run IB programmes, so a family choosing at 14 is choosing between IGCSE papers and criterion-marked MYP.

  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School, The Greens
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills

The Al Khail Road and Jumeirah Village belt

A secondary catchment for Lakes households, and the one with the longest return journey at the end of the school day. Students bussed from here are usually the last home in a two-child household, which is what forces the stagger.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Arcadia School
  • Sunmarke School, Jumeirah Village Triangle
  • Victory Heights Primary School

Schools are named to describe the local catchment and regulatory context a Lakes family is working within; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement by any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes, the tier and the free evening

The syllabus code and tier come off the entry sheet and decide which of four versions of a subject your child is sitting. The free evening decides whether the arrangement survives past November. Both pieces of information do more work than a description of how the child is finding the subject.

  2. 02

We match on specification and on availability

The proposed tutor will have taught that code at that tier and will be free in your window on Gulf Standard Time. If the combination is narrow we say how long the match takes and whether the tutor is UAE-based or teaching in from elsewhere, before anything is agreed.

  3. 03

    Ask us the permit question

It is a reasonable question and the answer is free and quick: the UAE private tuition work permit is issued by MoHRE under Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with a stated two-working-day processing time. Ask any provider, not only us, and ask what the arrangement is for the tutor who will actually teach.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson against a real paper

Sixty minutes on a past question from the student's own specification, on a shared screen. You are judging whether the tutor's diagnosis matches what the marked work shows, and whether the time of day worked. No card details are collected and nothing is owed if the answer is no.

  5. 05

Protect the slot, review at six sessions

The agreed evening is defended rather than optimised, with sessions moved for fixtures rather than lost. Before the second lesson we write down the component being targeted. At six sessions we compare the mark on it and name the option: continue, change focus, change tutor, or stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Scheduled against the whole week

Prep load, fixtures and rehearsals are counted before a slot is proposed, which is why most Lakes households end up with one protected evening rather than three optimistic ones. A session cancelled three times is a session that has stopped existing, and that is the usual cause of a tutoring arrangement failing by November.

The permit question answered, not avoided

The UAE private tuition work permit, its legal basis, its two-year validity, its absence of a fee and its eligible categories are set out on this page with a table you can use as a question list. Only one competitor page researched in this market touches licensing at all, in a single heading.

All five regulators named

KHDA for Dubai, ADEK for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA for Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge for Ras Al Khaimah and the federal Ministry of Education for Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. ADEK is named by none of the researched competitors and SPEA by one, which is why the map appears here in full.

Matched on the specification, not the postcode

Cambridge 0580 Core, 0580 Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and 4MA1 Higher are four courses with four ceilings. A tutor is matched to the code and tier on your child's entry sheet, which is a thing a proximity search cannot do reliably within a few kilometres of The Lakes.

Delivered online, and said so plainly

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Dubai's published in-home band of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour is printed here against AED 150 to AED 300 online, so you can see what the travel costs.

Mandatory UAE subjects taken seriously

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside IGCSE in every Dubai private school, with separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs and a prohibition on different or additional content without Ministry permission. No competitor page researched in this market has a section on them at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Lakes: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE tutor near me in The Lakes, or does the lesson happen online?+

Online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The practical argument in an IGCSE context is supply rather than price: your child needs a specific board, syllabus code and tier, and the overlap between tutors who live near Ghadeer and tutors who teach that exact specification is often empty. Dubai's in-home market is real and published at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against AED 150 to AED 300 online for equivalent credentials.

Which schools do Lakes children attend for Years 10 and 11?+

Almost all of them outside Emirates Living. The common IGCSE destinations are in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh - including Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Kings' School Al Barsha, Safa Community School, GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai College - with Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School in The Greens closer to home. Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills run IB programmes instead. All are regulated by KHDA, and named here as local context rather than as partners.

How do I check that a tutor is legally allowed to teach my child in Dubai?+

Ask for the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE requires the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years and MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services. Because it costs nothing and takes two days, there is no good reason for a working tutor not to have one. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Does a tutor need a KHDA permit as well as a MoHRE one?+

Not as an individual. The MoHRE private tuition work permit covers an individual providing private lessons. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a different instrument, issued to a training institute with premises and staff in Dubai, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested ahead of expiry. The two are frequently confused in marketing copy. IB Gram is not a Dubai training institute, occupies no UAE office and holds no permit from KHDA, so it claims none. If a provider implies regulator endorsement, ask for the permit or centre number.

Who inspects my child's school, and what does an inspection report actually tell me?+

In Dubai it is KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and publishes inspection reports on its own site. The reports are more useful than a school's reputation because they break performance down by phase and by subject, which tells you where tutoring is likely to be needed rather than whether the school is generally good. Read them at the source. No inspection rating is reproduced on this page, because ratings should be read where they are published and kept current.

Can a university student legally charge for tutoring my child in the UAE?+

Yes, if they hold the permit. MoHRE's eligible categories for the private tuition work permit explicitly include university students, alongside registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals and school students aged 15 to 18. The permit is free and valid for two years. This is why the bottom of the Dubai rate market exists: platform rates from roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour are genuinely available and genuinely lawful. Whether a university student is the right teacher for a tiered IGCSE paper is a separate question from whether they may be paid.

Is it acceptable for my child's own class teacher to tutor them privately?+

Treat it as something to avoid. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct to similar effect. Verify the current ADEK wording against its own policy document before relying on it. Even in Dubai the arrangement creates an obvious conflict around marking and predicted grades, so the practical answer in any emirate is to find a teacher from outside the school.

At Year 9 options, should my child take triple science or combined science?+

Decide from the intended route at 16 rather than from current comfort. Three separate sciences - Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625 or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 - produce three grades and the strongest position for A Level or Higher Level sciences. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award across all three and is a sound choice for a student not heading into science, and a liability for one who is. It is also a different specification rather than a reduced one, so it must be tutored from its own material.

How much prep does a Year 10 student get, and where does a tutor fit around it?+

Commonly an hour or more on a normal night, set by subject teachers who are not coordinating with each other, which is why the load is uneven rather than predictable. The working rule is not to schedule a lesson immediately after prep in the same subject, because the student has nothing left for it - alternate subjects across the evening instead. Add fixtures and rehearsals and most Year 10 and Year 11 weeks leave two genuinely free evenings. Pick the better one and protect it rather than booking three and cancelling two.

Two clubs a week and a Friday fixture. Which evening is actually left?+

Usually one, sometimes two. Work it through: the bus into Hattan arrives around 16:35, prep runs ninety minutes on a typical night, squad training owns two evenings, the fixture owns a third in season, and dinner is at seven. What survives is often a single weekday evening, with Friday afternoon available because most Dubai private schools now run a shortened Friday that puts a secondary student home by early afternoon. That Friday slot is the best place in the week for a ninety-minute timed paper with a fresh student.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education continue through Years 10 and 11 in Dubai?+

Yes. They are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, alongside social and moral studies, and KHDA required its current arrangements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. This follows a federal rule: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. They also sit outside the five-subject count the Ministry uses for British-track equivalency, which is a separate and important point.

Does a non-Arab student study Arabic in the same class as an Arab student?+

No. KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies.

Which IGCSE grades gate entry to A Level or the IB Diploma afterwards?+

Sixth forms set their own conditions, and the gate is usually a specific grade in the subject plus mathematics and English. The hidden constraint is tier: a Cambridge Core entry caps at grade C and a Pearson Foundation entry at grade 5, so a condition asking for a 6 or a B cannot be met from those tiers however well the student performs. Higher Level Diploma sciences normally assume Extended or Higher tier grades. Because tier locks at the board's final entry deadline months before the papers, this is a Year 10 conversation.

We are transferring from an Indian curriculum school into Year 10. What is the gap?+

Usually not content. Students arriving from an Indian curriculum are often ahead on coverage and behind on two specific things: extended written answers shaped to command terms, and the written assessment of practical skills. Both are technique and both respond to six to eight weeks of marked written practice. The first practical steps are administrative: get the syllabus codes and tiers from the new school in writing, ask whether the entry deadline for the next series has passed, and diagnose from one marked piece of work before buying hours.

What happens if no tutor is free for the subject and tier we need?+

We tell you, which is not the norm in this market - no competitor page researched discloses a coverage limit at all. For mainstream IGCSE subjects a match usually takes a few days. For a narrow combination, a less common subject, or a request for one tutor across two boards, it can take longer, and the proposed tutor may be based outside the UAE teaching into Gulf Standard Time. We state the expected wait and the tutor's location before anything is agreed, so the decision is yours rather than a surprise later.

Send the codes and the one evening that is genuinely free

Two pieces of information get a Lakes family to a useful first lesson: the syllabus codes with their tiers, and the evening in the week that has no fixture, no rehearsal and the lightest prep. We come back with a tutor who teaches that specification and can teach in that window, plus a focus for the first three lessons. The trial lesson is free, covers one subject, and takes no card details. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; nobody arrives at a Lakes address, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. Ask us the permit question as well - it is a fair one.
