IB Chemistry Tutor in The Lakes

Booking an IB Chemistry tutor in The Lakes is rarely a question of finding one. It is a question of where the hour goes. School in Emirates Living ends between 2:30pm and 3:30pm, activities run to five, and by the time a Lakes household has collected two children and eaten, the usable window is narrow and late. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, which removes the drive at both ends and makes a 7pm Chemistry slot on a Tuesday a realistic thing to keep for a whole term.

  • Evening and weekend slots scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • No travel at either end, so a 7pm start stays a 7pm start
  • Tutors who teach the Structure and Reactivity course, not general science
  • One free trial lesson per student, bookable without card details

IB & IGCSE in The Lakes

The real obstacle is the calendar, not the chemistry

Ask a Lakes parent what stopped them arranging Chemistry support last term and the answer is almost never about the subject. It is about Tuesday. School finishes at three, football finishes at five, the younger one has to be collected from a different campus, dinner is at seven and homework is still outstanding. Somewhere in that sequence an hour of Chemistry has to fit, and if the hour also involves somebody driving across Emirates Living, it does not fit at all. The tuition conversation stalls on logistics long before anybody discusses Reactivity 3.

This page is written around that problem rather than around a sales argument. The Lakes sits in the middle of Emirates Living, with Emirates International School Meadows, Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School within a few minutes and the Al Barsha cluster fifteen to twenty minutes east depending on the hour. Those schools do not end at the same time, they do not run activities on the same days, and the two that offer the Diploma do not sequence Chemistry identically. A tuition plan that ignores all of that is a plan that gets cancelled in week three.

Delivery for every UAE family is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For the school-run problem this is the whole point rather than a compromise. A tutor who does not travel can start at 7:15pm because that is when your child is finally free, can take a session on a Friday morning when the school week has ended early, and can move a slot by forty minutes on the day of a late fixture without anybody losing an hour to Sheikh Zayed Road.

The chemistry itself is covered properly below. There are six syllabus units, three under Structure and three under Reactivity, and the page sets out what each contains and what Higher Level adds. It explains what the data booklet gives a student in the examination and what therefore has to be remembered, because that distinction decides what revision is worth doing. It publishes Dubai market rates in AED by monthly cost rather than by hourly rate, with the source of each figure, since monthly is how families actually budget. And it covers the parts of the Dubai year that move the timetable: activity season, mock season, Ramadan and the Cambridge entry deadlines that sit months before the exams.

If you are reading this at 10pm after a school run, start with the two timetable tables. They are the part that decides whether this works for your household.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry reaches a Lakes child through the school their house was chosen for. Two of the nearest schools run the IB continuum and the rest run the British route, so the same street can contain a MYP 4 student, a Year 11 IGCSE candidate and a DP2 Higher Level chemist, all needing something different.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Taken at Standard or Higher Level as one of six subjects. The course is organised into Structure and Reactivity rather than the older topic list, assessed by two written papers plus one internally assessed scientific investigation. Standard Level runs to 110 taught hours and Higher Level to 180, with the extra material folded inside the same six units rather than appended as a separate section.

Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills are the two Diploma schools nearest The Lakes. Both finish the academic day in the early afternoon, which sounds generous until co-curricular commitments are added. DP2 Chemistry enquiries from this neighbourhood cluster in October and again in January, immediately after mock results land.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Chemistry sits inside integrated Sciences and is assessed against four criteria out of eight each: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Students who are strong on recall and weak on criterion C data processing usually hit trouble in DP1, because the Diploma puts a third of Paper 1 into exactly that skill.

The continuum school on The Lakes doorstep means a number of local children move from MYP 5 into DP Chemistry without changing building. Their adjustment is to timing rather than content: MYP assessment arrives in discrete tasks, while DP Chemistry runs a continuous build with an investigation deadline sitting in the middle of DP2.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry

The usual pre-Diploma route for British-curriculum students, and the largest single curriculum group in Dubai by enrolment. Cambridge Chemistry is syllabus 0620, tiered into Core and Extended; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry is 4CH1 and untiered. Both end with a practical component assessed either by a practical test or by a written alternative, and both treat moles far more lightly than the Diploma does.

Dubai British School Emirates Hills, Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School all run this route within reach of The Lakes. Students arriving in DP1 from an Extended-tier IGCSE find Structure 1 and Structure 2 familiar and then meet entropy, equilibrium and organic mechanisms at a depth that 0620 never asked for.

DP coreAges 16-19 · DP1 into DP2

Extended Essay and the scientific investigation

Two independent pieces of work with fixed limits: a 4,000-word Extended Essay supervised in school, and the Chemistry scientific investigation at a 3,000-word maximum worth 20% of the subject grade. Both are the student's own work throughout. Tutoring here is process coaching, question narrowing and feedback on drafts the student has written, and nothing beyond that.

School internal deadlines for both land in the busiest weeks of the Dubai academic year, often alongside mock examinations. Lakes families who plan for that in September rather than January tend to need fewer sessions overall, because the work is spread rather than compressed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is rarely booked alone from this neighbourhood. A Higher Level chemist usually carries a second science and Maths, and the week has to hold all three. These are the courses most often taken alongside Chemistry by Emirates Living families.

IB Chemistry

Higher Level

180 taught hours across the same six units, with entropy and spontaneity, extended equilibrium work and a fuller treatment of organic mechanisms sitting inside them. Paper 1 runs to two hours and Paper 2 to two and a half, so HL students need stamina practice as well as content revision.

IB Chemistry

Standard Level

110 taught hours with identical weightings to Higher Level: Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44%, investigation at 20%. Standard Level students most often lose marks in Reactivity 2, where equilibrium and rate questions reward a precise answer rather than a broadly correct one.

Chemistry scientific investigation

HL and SL

The internally assessed component, 20% of the grade, 3,000 words maximum, marked out of 24. Students who choose a topic in the first fortnight do better than students who choose a clever one in the third month. Support is teaching and feedback on the student's own draft only.

IB Physics

HL and SL

The most common second science for Lakes students aiming at engineering. The two courses share an assessment model and the same four investigation criteria, which helps, but they compete for the same evening slots, which does not. Sequencing the two in one week is a scheduling problem worth solving deliberately.

IB Biology

HL and SL

The other common pairing, particularly for students aiming at medicine or dentistry. Biology rewards precise terminology where Chemistry rewards precise quantity, and students who carry both often need help switching between those two habits of answering.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Chemistry leans on logarithms for pH, on proportional reasoning throughout the mole work and on gradients in rate questions. A student who is shaky on logs will read Reactivity 3 proton-transfer questions as chemistry they cannot do, when the obstacle is algebraic.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Common among Chemistry SL students. The statistics strand helps with uncertainty treatment in the investigation, while the lighter calculus coverage occasionally shows up in rate work. Worth checking against the published entry requirements of any science degree your child is considering.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 and Edexcel 4CH1

The year that decides how hard DP1 feels. Core and Extended differ in content as well as grade ceiling on the Cambridge route, and the practical component is where variables, uncertainty and method evaluation are first examined formally.

Extended Essay in Chemistry

DP core

A 4,000-word independent research essay, supervised in school. The most common failure is a research question that cannot be answered with school apparatus. Narrowing it early is the single highest-value hour of support available on this component.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core

Sits across the Diploma and takes real time out of the week in DP1. Lakes families planning a Chemistry schedule need to know when the TOK exhibition and essay deadlines fall, because those weeks are when science tuition gets cancelled.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The three shapes below exist because of the timetable rather than the syllabus. Which one suits your household depends on how much of the week is already committed, not on how much Chemistry your child needs.

A fixed weekday evening slot

One standing session a week, usually ninety minutes, placed after activities and before homework collapses. The slot is held for the term so it survives a busy fortnight, and the same tutor keeps a running record of what has been covered and what is still outstanding.

  • Start times from 5pm to 8:30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Ninety minutes fits one taught concept plus a worked past-paper question
  • The slot is held across the term rather than rebooked each week

Friday morning and weekend blocks

The UAE school week runs Monday to Friday and many Dubai schools shorten the Friday, which opens a quiet two-hour window that nothing else competes for. Weekend mornings work the same way, and both suit longer investigation or revision work better than a tired weekday evening.

  • Longer sessions for investigation design or full-paper practice
  • No competing activities, so cancellations are rare
  • Useful for siblings in sequence rather than in parallel

Short intensive run before mocks or a session

A concentrated block of sessions over two or three weeks aimed at papers rather than content: command terms, how to use the data booklet at speed, and how to structure an extended response in Paper 2 so the marks are findable by an examiner.

  • Timed full papers, marked live against the official criteria
  • Data booklet drills, since speed of lookup is a real variable
  • Official past papers cited and linked, never reproduced or supplied

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Lakes

01

A Lakes weekday, hour by hour, and where an hour of Chemistry can actually go

Start with the day as it is rather than as a timetable describes it. Most Emirates Living secondary schools finish the academic day between 2:30pm and 3:30pm. For a child at a school inside the community that means home by about 3:15pm. For a child at a school in Al Barsha it means a return drive in the slowest part of the afternoon and home closer to four. Activities, where they exist, run until about five, and many Lakes households are also collecting a younger sibling from a different campus at a different time.

The window between five and seven is therefore more contested than it looks. It holds the second school run, dinner, and whatever homework has been set, and it is also the window when a child is least able to absorb a new concept. The windows that actually work for Chemistry in this neighbourhood are later than parents expect: roughly 6:30pm to 8:30pm on a weekday, a shortened Friday morning, and weekend mornings before the day fills up. Those are not compromises. They are the times a fifteen-year-old can concentrate on equilibrium.

This is where delivery format stops being a marketing point and becomes arithmetic. A visiting tutor needs a start time that accommodates their drive, which in practice means either an early slot that collides with activities or a late one that collides with bedtime, plus the cost of the travel inside the hourly rate. A session on a screen starts when the child sits down. The table below sets out the day band by band, with the reason each window works or does not.

Which schools The Lakes feeds, and what each route does with Chemistry

A Lakes address does not imply a school. Families here send children to at least three distinct clusters, and the Chemistry route differs in each. Inside Emirates Living, Emirates International School Meadows runs the IB continuum, so a child there meets chemistry inside MYP Sciences and then as DP Chemistry at sixteen. Regent International School and Dubai British School Emirates Hills sit on the British route, so the same child's neighbour sits IGCSE Chemistry at sixteen and then chooses between A Level and the Diploma.

Fifteen to twenty minutes east, the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh cluster adds more options again, with Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School on the British route and the IB Diploma available at more than one school in the group. Dubai's private sector carried 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum 37%, Indian 26%, US 14% and International Baccalaureate 7% by enrolment. That spread is why two children on the same Lakes street can be preparing for genuinely different chemistry examinations in the same term.

For scheduling purposes the useful detail is end-of-day time and activity pattern rather than inspection band. A school that finishes at 2:40pm with no compulsory activities gives a family a very different evening from a school that finishes at 3:30pm with fixtures twice a week. The table below gathers what matters for a Chemistry plan; always confirm current bell times and the inspection record with the school itself and with KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai.

Structure and Reactivity: the six units, and what Higher Level adds

The current Chemistry course is built on two organising ideas. Structure asks what matter is made of and how it is arranged: Structure 1 covers models of the particulate nature of matter, including the nuclear atom, electron configurations, the mole and ideal gases; Structure 2 covers models of bonding and structure across ionic, covalent and metallic models and the materials that follow from them; Structure 3 covers classification, meaning the periodic table and the functional groups of organic chemistry.

Reactivity asks what happens when matter changes. Reactivity 1 covers what drives reactions, through enthalpy, energy cycles and fuels, with entropy and spontaneity added at Higher Level. Reactivity 2 covers how much, how fast and how far, meaning amount of change, rate and extent, which is where equilibrium lives. Reactivity 3 covers mechanisms, organised by electron behaviour: proton transfer, electron transfer, electron sharing and electron-pair sharing. That organisation is deliberate and it is a gift to a student who learns it, because it tells them which tool a question is asking for before they read the chemistry.

Higher Level is not a seventh unit. The extra seventy taught hours sit inside the six, which is why a student moving up a level finds that Reactivity 1 has grown rather than been supplemented. In Dubai cohorts the predictable pressure points are Reactivity 2, where equilibrium questions punish approximate answers, and Reactivity 3 at Higher Level, where organic mechanisms require a student to draw and justify rather than recall. Structure 1 is the quiet risk: mole calculations feel like arithmetic, so students stop practising them, and then lose marks on them in Paper 2 two years later.

The data booklet: what the examination gives you and what has to be in your head

A chemistry data booklet is available in both written papers, and most students use it badly for the first year. It contains the periodic table, constants, common relationships and reference values, which means a student does not need to memorise them. What it does not contain is the judgement about which relationship applies, and under timed conditions the lookup itself costs seconds a student may not have.

The practical consequence is that revision should split into two piles rather than one. Anything in the booklet needs recognition speed: knowing that the value exists, knowing which page it is on, knowing the units it is quoted in. Anything not in the booklet needs genuine recall: definitions, mechanisms, the reasoning that connects structure to property, and the command-term structure of a good extended answer. Students who revise everything as though it must be memorised waste weeks, and students who assume the booklet will carry them arrive at Paper 2 unable to start. A useful diagnostic is to hand a student a past-paper question and time how long they spend hunting for a value they should have recognised in three seconds.

This is a skill that teaches well on a screen, because the booklet can be open on a shared document while a past-paper question is worked beside it. A tutor can watch the lookup happen, time it, and intervene at the point of hesitation. That is far more useful than being told afterwards that the answer was wrong, and it is the part of Chemistry support that Lakes parents most often report as unexpected value.

Two children, two sciences, one evening: the Lakes scheduling problem

The households that struggle most are not the ones with a weak student. They are the ones with two children at different schools, or one child carrying Chemistry and Physics at Higher Level. Both situations create a competition for the same two-hour window, and the usual response is to alternate weeks, which is the worst available option because it halves the contact frequency in both subjects at the point when frequency is what builds technique.

A better pattern is to separate by day rather than by week and to use the parts of the Dubai week that nothing else wants. Chemistry on Tuesday evening, Physics on Thursday evening, and investigation or revision work on a Friday morning when many schools finish early. Two children can take sequential slots on the same evening, since nobody is travelling between them, and a ninety-minute block can be split as sixty and thirty when one child needs maintenance rather than teaching. None of that is possible when a tutor has to be physically present for both.

The second half of the problem is the Dubai calendar. Activity season, mock weeks, internal investigation deadlines, Ramadan and the long summer all move the usable window, and a plan that assumes a constant Tuesday collapses three times a year. The sensible approach is to agree the standing slot and then agree in advance what happens to it during each of those periods, rather than renegotiating under pressure in the week it arrives.

WHEN THE DUBAI YEAR MOVES A CHEMISTRY SLOT
PeriodWhat changesEffect on a weekly slotWhat to agree in advance

What Chemistry support costs a Lakes family per month, not per hour

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for a household budget. Families commit to a term, so the number that matters is the monthly one, and in Dubai the monthly figures are published. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate work puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Packages advertised locally include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visiting sessions.

Read those two package figures next to each other and the travel premium is no longer abstract. Roughly twice the monthly outlay buys half the number of contacts, because a visiting tutor's drive across Emirates Living is billed inside the hour. For a subject examined on technique rather than knowledge alone, contact frequency is what moves a grade, so the arrangement that looks more premium is often the one that delivers less practice. That is the comparison a Lakes parent is actually making, and no page ranking for these searches lays it out.

The underlying hourly bands, for reference and with their sources: budget online tutoring from roughly AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; specialist IB or IGCSE tutoring at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting around AED 270; visiting one-to-one at AED 180 to 500; and premium named tutors higher again, with BartyED publishing AED 650. Every figure here is another provider's published rate as of the October 2026 research, not an IB Gram price. Worth noting as context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private-school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in the same crowded week

Any Chemistry schedule for a Dubai child competes with subjects that are not optional. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. For a Lakes family that means the school week already contains lessons that sit outside the IB or British framework, and often homework alongside them.

The rules are specific in ways parents rarely hear. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided weekly totals are met, and lessons for any mandatory subject are advised to run at least 25 minutes.

Two consequences follow for a Chemistry plan. The first is purely practical: the week is fuller than the IB subject list suggests, so a realistic schedule accounts for Arabic homework as well as science homework. The second is about support. Schools are required to ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, and for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited. Tutoring in those subjects therefore works differently from tutoring in Chemistry, and should be arranged with the school's guidance rather than around it.

Booking from The Lakes when the school run already owns your afternoon

The enquiry that gets answered fastest contains four things: the level, the unit where the trouble starts, the most recent paper mark, and the two evening windows that are genuinely free. The last one matters more than parents expect. Availability is the binding constraint on matching a Higher Level Chemistry specialist, and a family that can offer 6:30pm Tuesday or 7pm Thursday is far easier to place than a family that can only say 'after school'.

After that comes a free trial lesson, one per student and bookable without card details, taught by the tutor who would take the course. A good Chemistry trial does real chemistry: a question at the real level, the data booklet open, and the tutor naming the unit and the command term rather than discussing motivation. If the match is wrong, say so and ask for another. That costs nothing, and it is a better outcome than discovering it in February.

The honest caveat concerns the slots everybody wants. The 6:30pm to 8:30pm weekday band is the most contested on the platform, and there are weeks when no Higher Level Chemistry specialist is free inside it. When that happens you will be told, with a date, rather than matched to a generalist. The usual alternatives are a Friday morning or weekend slot, which for investigation work is better anyway, or a UAE-timed session with an IB Chemistry specialist based outside the UAE, delivered in the same format at the same Gulf Standard Time hour. Nobody will be sent to your address, because that is not a service offered here.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Lakes

What matters to a Chemistry schedule is not how far a neighbourhood is from The Lakes but when its schools let out and what happens afterwards. These are the communities whose timetables actually interact with a Lakes household.

The Meadows

A two-minute drive, and the home of Emirates International School Meadows with its full IB continuum. Children here are often back by 3:15pm, but a sizeable share stay for activities until five, which pushes Chemistry to a 6:30pm start or later.

The Springs

Townhouses with a younger average age and more primary-aged siblings, which matters because the second school run is what actually blocks a 5pm slot. Chemistry enquiries from here are mostly pre-Diploma, with an eye on subject choices at sixteen.

The Greens

Apartments across Sheikh Zayed Road, with Regent International School inside the community. Parents here often work in Barsha Heights or Media City and are home earlier than Marina commuters, so 6pm sessions are more workable from this side.

The Views

Towers beside Emirates Golf Club with a heavy Diploma presence for their size. Most bookings from here are late, after a working parent is back, and weekend mornings carry more of the load than in the villa communities.

Emirates Hills

Large villas immediately north, with Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills nearby. Higher Level Chemistry combined with a second science is common here, so the week usually has to hold two science slots rather than one.

Al Barsha

Fifteen to twenty minutes east, holding GEMS Dubai American Academy, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and Kings' School Al Barsha. The return drive at 3:30pm is the slowest part of a Lakes afternoon and rules out any session before 5pm.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School sit on this stretch. Both are British-route, so Chemistry conversations here concern IGCSE 0620 or 4CH1 and A Level choices rather than Higher Level and Standard Level.

Motor City and Sports City

Inland, and chosen by Lakes families who picked a school before a house. The commute home is long enough that a weekday Chemistry session before 6pm is unrealistic, and Friday mornings become genuinely useful.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level, the unit and two free evenings

Tell us Standard or Higher Level, which of the six units the trouble starts in, the last paper mark, and the two weekday windows that are genuinely free after activities. Those four details let us check real availability against your real week rather than quoting a plan that collapses in the first fortnight.

  2. 02

A trial lesson in a slot you would keep

One free trial per student, no card details needed, scheduled in the slot you intend to use so you can test the time as well as the tutor. Expect a genuine question at the right level with the data booklet open. A trial that avoids chemistry has told you something useful about the match.

  3. 03

Map the school's sequence before the plan

The tutor asks for your child's scheme of work and the school's internal deadlines, including the investigation dates, then plans backwards from them. Working on Reactivity 2 while the class is being assessed on Structure 3 produces no visible benefit, which is how families conclude tuition is not working.

  4. 04

Hold the slot for the term

The session is booked for the term rather than week by week, which is what makes it survive a busy fortnight. A short written note follows each session naming what was covered, what was set and what is still weak, so you can tell progress from attendance without asking your child.

  5. 05

Agree in advance what moves and when

Mock weeks, investigation deadlines, Ramadan and the summer all change the usable window. Deciding now whether the slot shifts earlier, moves to a Friday morning or pauses entirely means the plan bends at those points instead of breaking, and it is the main reason some arrangements last two years.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Built around the hour you actually have

Slots run from 5pm to 8:30pm in Gulf Standard Time plus Friday mornings and weekends, with no travel at either end. A session starts when your child sits down rather than when a tutor finishes a drive across Emirates Living, which is why a late weekday slot survives a full term here.

Siblings in sequence on one evening

Two children at different schools and different stages can take back-to-back sessions on the same night, with different tutors if they need different specialisms. Nothing has to be rearranged around one person's route, and a ninety-minute block can be split unevenly when one child needs maintenance rather than teaching.

Rates quoted monthly, with sources

Monthly figures are how a term is budgeted, so this page publishes monthly bands in AED with the survey or competitor that published each one, as of the October 2026 research. Three of the six strongest pages in this search publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars.

Taught by unit, not by year group

A tutor is matched to the unit your child is stuck in, whether that is mole arithmetic in Structure 1 or organic mechanisms in Reactivity 3 at Higher Level. The relevant question is what they teach, not how far away they live, and that is the filter a distance-based search cannot apply.

The investigation stays the student's work

A tutor may teach the chemistry, explain what each criterion rewards, question a research design and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not supply text or produce the analysis. One site competing in this search sells completed internal assessments; the risk of that sits with the candidate, not the seller.

Regulator rules explained, never claimed

KHDA's mandatory-subject requirements and the MoHRE private tuition permit are set out here with links to the government sources, because they change what a week looks like. IB Gram holds no KHDA, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge accreditation and claims none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Lakes: your questions answered

What time does the school day end for children living in The Lakes?+

Most secondary schools in and around Emirates Living finish the academic day between 2:30pm and 3:30pm. A child at a school inside the community is usually home by about 3:15pm; a child commuting back from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh lands closer to four because the return drive coincides with the afternoon peak. Co-curricular activities then run to roughly five on the days they are scheduled. Confirm the exact bell time with your own school, because it differs by campus and by year group, and it is the single number that decides which tuition slot will survive the term.

Can a Chemistry session fit between the school run and dinner?+

It can, but it is the slot most likely to be cancelled. The window from five to six-thirty holds the second school run, dinner and set homework, and it is also when a teenager is least able to absorb new material. Families in The Lakes get better results from a 6:30pm to 8:30pm weekday slot, a Friday morning when many Dubai schools finish early, or a weekend morning booked as a standing appointment. Because lessons are delivered over live video there is no travel at either end, so a later start costs nothing in logistics.

Which schools near The Lakes actually teach IB Chemistry?+

Within a few minutes, Emirates International School Meadows runs the IB continuum through to the Diploma and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills runs the Diploma, so DP Chemistry is taught at both. Regent International School and Dubai British School Emirates Hills follow the British route, where chemistry is examined at IGCSE and then A Level. Fifteen to twenty minutes east the Al Barsha cluster adds further options. Schools are named here as neighbourhood context only; check current programme availability with the school and the published record with KHDA, which oversees private education quality in Dubai.

How is the IB Chemistry course divided between Structure and Reactivity?+

There are six units. Structure 1 covers models of the particulate nature of matter, including the nuclear atom, electron configuration, the mole and ideal gases. Structure 2 covers models of bonding and structure. Structure 3 covers classification, meaning the periodic table and organic functional groups. Reactivity 1 covers what drives reactions, through enthalpy and energy cycles. Reactivity 2 covers how much, how fast and how far, where equilibrium sits. Reactivity 3 covers mechanisms, organised by electron behaviour. Higher Level adds roughly seventy taught hours inside those same six units rather than a seventh unit.

Is organic chemistry genuinely the hardest part of the IB course?+

For most students it is the part where the kind of thinking changes, which is not quite the same thing. Reactivity 3 asks a student to draw and justify a mechanism rather than recall a fact, and at Higher Level the range of electron-pair chemistry widens considerably. Students who have coasted on memory until that point find it abrupt. The predictable remedy is to learn the organising logic, which is electron behaviour, rather than a list of named reactions. Structure 1 mole work is the quieter risk, because it feels straightforward and therefore goes unpractised for two years.

What is in the Chemistry data booklet, and what does my child still have to memorise?+

A data booklet is available in both written papers. It carries the periodic table, constants, standard relationships and reference values, so those need recognition speed rather than recall. What it does not carry is judgement: definitions, mechanisms, the reasoning that links structure to a property, and the answer structure a command term demands. Revision should split into those two piles. Students who try to memorise everything waste weeks, and students who assume the booklet will carry them cannot start Paper 2. Practising lookup speed against a timed past paper is the fix.

What does Chemistry tutoring cost per month for a family in The Lakes?+

Published Dubai figures for a weekly one-hour arrangement run roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support, per Bestimate's 2026 rate work. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visiting sessions. Those are other providers' published figures as of the October 2026 research, not IB Gram prices. Compare the two packages and you can see what travel costs: double the money, half the contacts.

My child takes Chemistry and Physics at Higher Level. Can both fit into one week?+

Yes, provided they are separated by day rather than by week. Alternating weeks halves contact frequency in both subjects at exactly the point when frequency is what builds exam technique. A workable pattern from The Lakes is Chemistry on one weekday evening, Physics on another, and longer investigation or revision work on a Friday morning when many Dubai schools finish early. Because there is no travel involved, two separate specialists can be used rather than one tutor stretched across both subjects, which is usually the better outcome at Higher Level.

Do Chemistry sessions move during Ramadan?+

Usually, because school hours shorten across the UAE during Ramadan and the shape of the day changes at home as well. Two patterns work. The first moves the session earlier, into the gap created by the shorter school day, which suits younger students and anyone fasting. The second moves it to a post-Iftar slot, which suits DP2 students who prefer a late, quiet hour. The useful thing is to decide which before Ramadan begins rather than during it, and to hold the alternative slot in advance so the weekly rhythm is not lost for a month.

Can two children in the same Lakes household use the same evening?+

They can, and sequential slots on one evening are the most common arrangement in this neighbourhood. Nobody is travelling between the two sessions, so a 6:30pm and a 7:45pm can sit back to back without a gap for a drive. The two children can have different tutors if they are at different stages, which is often better than one tutor covering both. A ninety-minute block can also be split unevenly, with the longer part going to whichever child is closer to an assessment that term.

How different is Higher Level from Standard Level inside the same unit?+

The difference is depth and quantity inside the same six units rather than extra topics at the end. Higher Level runs 180 taught hours against 110, and the additional material is folded in: entropy and spontaneity extend Reactivity 1, equilibrium and rate analysis go further in Reactivity 2, and organic and electron-pair chemistry widen in Reactivity 3. The weightings are identical, with Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the investigation at 20%, but Higher Level papers are longer, so stamina and pacing become genuine variables rather than afterthoughts.

When in DP1 should Chemistry support start for the best value?+

October of DP1 is the point at which support is cheapest in total hours, because the first assessed work has been returned and the gaps are visible while the course is still short. Families who wait until January of DP2, after mock results, are buying the same outcome under time pressure and usually need a higher session frequency to get there. The other high-value entry point is the fortnight before the investigation topic is chosen, since a controllable research question is worth more marks than any amount of polishing later.

Does the mandatory Arabic requirement affect how we schedule Chemistry?+

Indirectly, yes, because it makes the school week fuller than the subject list implies. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab groups. That brings homework alongside the IB or British workload. Account for it when choosing a Chemistry slot, and arrange any Arabic or Islamic Education support with the school's guidance, since content for those subjects is tightly specified.

How late can we move a weekday Chemistry session if an activity overruns?+

Within reason, a same-day shift of thirty to sixty minutes is straightforward because no one is travelling to you. The practical limit is the tutor's own evening and your child's capacity to think after a long day; past about nine in the evening a session stops being productive regardless of goodwill. The more durable fix is to place the standing slot late enough that fixtures do not reach it, which in The Lakes usually means starting at 6:30pm or later, and to keep a Friday morning in reserve for the weeks when the evening is lost entirely.

Pick the hour first, then the tutor

Most Chemistry plans in this neighbourhood fail on scheduling rather than on teaching, so settle the hour before anything else. Look at your actual week, find the two evenings that survive activities and the second school run, and treat those as the constraint. A tutor who does not have to drive anywhere can meet them, hold them for a term, and move by half an hour on the day a fixture overruns. Send us the level, the unit your child is stuck in and those two windows, and the trial lesson can be booked into the slot you intend to keep rather than into whatever happens to be free.
