IB Tutor near me in The Lakes

Typing IB tutor near me in The Lakes narrows the search by distance, and distance is the one variable that costs money without adding marks. Published Dubai rates run AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online and AED 180 to AED 500 for a visit, and the gap is travel. This page prices two years of Diploma support from the top of the market down, says which components deserve the budget, and explains how to tell whether an hour was worth paying for.

IB & IGCSE in The Lakes

The proximity filter is the most expensive setting in your search

Start at the top of the Dubai market and work down, because that is where the shape becomes visible. One premium provider publishes AED 650 an hour. A 2026 Dubai rate study places examination-year specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and one agency quotes AED 270 for specialist work. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to AED 300, with one agency publishing AED 200 for IB and AED 150 for IGCSE. Platform rates for university-student tutors begin around AED 33 to AED 65. That is a nineteen-fold spread for an hour of somebody's time.

Now add the in-home premium, because the search phrase at the top of this page is a request for one. In-home visits in Dubai are published at AED 180 to AED 350 in that 2026 study and up to AED 500 in independent listings. Against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalently qualified tutor working online, roughly AED 60 to AED 150 an hour is the car. For a weekly hour across the two Diploma years that is somewhere between AED 4,000 and AED 11,000 spent on a journey between Al Barsha and Hattan.

What the proximity filter buys is a smaller pool, and a smaller pool costs more for less. Inside a twenty-minute drive of The Lakes there is a finite number of tutors who teach Higher Level Chemistry to DP2 standard, and in any given term some are full. A Diploma student takes three Higher Level subjects, so a geographic search asks you to accept the best available locally in each of them - which in practice is one good match and two compromises, at the higher rate.

So the position, stated plainly because the query invites the opposite. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India, and nobody arrives at a Lakes address under any arrangement sold here. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with work marked on a shared screen during the lesson. The rate bands above are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and they are printed here so a Lakes family can judge any quote - ours included - against the market.

The rest of this page is about allocation rather than price. Six subjects, three of them Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, and a household budget that will not stretch to all of it. Which components carry the most marks for the least money. What the Diploma core is actually worth in points. Which extras sit outside the hourly rate and catch families out. And a practical method for deciding, at six sessions, whether an hour was worth what it cost.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Diploma is the expensive stage and the one this page is costed for, but the two years before it determine how much of it you will need to buy. Here is the sequence a Lakes family is budgeting across.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects - three Higher Level, three Standard Level - plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject's grade is built from externally marked papers and an internally marked assessment, with the coursework component usually carrying around 20 per cent. Higher Level subjects add a third paper in many subjects, which is where the extra teaching hours go.

In Dubai, Diploma tutoring is priced at the top of the market: AED 200 to AED 450 and above for examination-year specialists according to the 2026 rate study, with one agency publishing AED 270. For a Lakes household the practical consequence is that you cannot fund six subjects, so the allocation question matters more than the hourly rate does.

CoreAcross DP1 and DP2

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

The Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition and the Extended Essay are graded and together contribute up to three bonus points to the Diploma total; CAS is a completion requirement rather than a graded one. None of the three has a daily timetabled lesson, which is why they are underprepared and why they are usually the cheapest available marks in the whole programme.

Three points is the difference between a conditional offer met and missed, and the core is where a small, well-timed coaching spend has the best ratio in the Diploma. Lakes families typically discover this in the DP2 autumn, when the school's internal deadlines for both arrive in the same fortnight as two subject coursework deadlines.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-marked across eight subject groups, each criterion scored 0 to 8 and combined into a grade from 1 to 7, with the Personal Project in MYP 5 and no external examination unless the school enters students for optional eAssessment. The assessment style is quite different from the Diploma's percentage-weighted papers.

The cheapest Diploma is one prepared for. MYP work sits at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour while Diploma specialist work starts around AED 200 and runs past AED 450, so a weakness fixed in MYP 5 is bought at roughly half the price of the same weakness fixed in DP1. That is the strongest cost argument available on this page.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE as the alternative route

Cambridge and Pearson examinations with syllabus codes and tiers - 0580 Core or Extended, 4MA1 Foundation or Higher - taken by many students at the schools Lakes children attend before they choose between A Level and the Diploma at 16. Tier decisions made in Year 10 determine which Higher Level Diploma subjects are available at 17.

One agency publishes AED 150 an hour for IGCSE against AED 200 for IB, which is the clearest published evidence of the price step between the two. A Lakes family planning ahead should expect roughly a third more per hour once the student enters the Diploma, and budget the two years accordingly rather than reacting in the first DP1 term.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma grades are built from weighted components, so the useful question per subject is not how hard it is but where the marks sit. These are the subjects Lakes families fund most often, with the component that gives the best return named.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

At Standard Level the two papers carry 40 per cent each with the exploration at 20 per cent. At Higher Level three papers carry 30, 30 and 20 with the exploration again at 20. Paper 3 at Higher Level is the component most students never practise under timed conditions, and it is worth a fifth of the grade.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same weighting structure as Analysis and Approaches, with a graphical display calculator assumed in every paper. Modelling questions reward method marks that students routinely forfeit by not stating assumptions. The cheapest gain here is calculator fluency, which takes two sessions and is almost never taught.

Physics

HL and SL

Under the current guide, Paper 1 carries 36 per cent, Paper 2 carries 44 per cent and the scientific investigation 20 per cent at both levels. Higher Level covers additional content rather than an extra paper. The investigation is a single piece of coursework worth a fifth of the grade and is the highest-return hour in the subject.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The same 36, 44 and 20 split applies. Organic mechanisms and energetics carry most of the lost marks at Higher Level, and the data-based section of Paper 1 is recoverable quickly. The investigation has a strict honesty boundary: the tutor questions the design and reads the student's draft, and writes none of it.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume rather than difficulty, with command terms doing more work than students expect. Paper 2's extended response questions are where the grade is decided, and the fastest recovery is in data interpretation. Short frequent sessions outperform long ones, which also makes them cheaper per useful minute.

Economics

HL and SL

At Standard Level Paper 1 is 30 per cent, Paper 2 is 40 and the internal assessment 30. At Higher Level there is a third paper and the split moves to roughly 20, 30, 30 and 20. The internal assessment is three commentaries, worth a large share of the Standard Level grade, and it is the component families most often leave unsupported.

Business Management

HL and SL

Standard Level sits at roughly 35, 35 and 30 across two papers and the internal assessment; Higher Level adds a third paper and the pre-released case study. Because the case study is published in advance, structured preparation across months beats a pre-examination sprint, which makes a steady low-cost weekly hour genuinely efficient here.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

At Standard Level Paper 1, Paper 2 and the Individual Oral sit near 35, 35 and 30. At Higher Level the HL Essay is added and the weightings redistribute. The Individual Oral is a rehearsed assessment and therefore the most improvable component per hour in the whole Diploma for a student who will practise it.

Psychology

HL and SL

At Standard Level Paper 1 carries half the grade, Paper 2 a quarter and the internal assessment a quarter; Higher Level adds a third paper. The internal assessment is a replication of a simple experiment with a prescribed format, and the write-up is where the marks are lost. A short coaching block beats a standing weekly hour.

History

HL and SL

Standard Level runs roughly 30, 45 and 25 across source paper, essay paper and the historical investigation; Higher Level adds a regional-option paper worth around 35 per cent and redistributes the rest. The source paper is a technique component that can be lifted substantially in six sessions, which makes it the efficient place to start.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats with three different cost profiles. All IB Gram teaching in the UAE is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

One subject, one hour, no package

The default and the cheapest honest starting point: a single weekly hour in the subject with the largest recoverable gap, paid as you go. No block to buy, no expiry date to race, and no commitment beyond the next lesson. For most Lakes households this is the right purchase for the whole of DP1.

  • Paid by the session, so stopping costs nothing
  • Focus agreed in writing before the second lesson
  • Reviewed at six sessions against a component mark
  • No expiring credits, which is where package money is usually lost

Coursework coaching blocks

Three or four sessions placed at the planning stage, the first full draft and the final review of an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. Because the component is worth around a fifth of a subject grade, or up to three points in the case of the core, this is the best ratio of marks to dirhams in the Diploma.

  • Timed to the school's own published deadlines
  • Feedback on the student's draft against the published criteria
  • No text written for the student at any point
  • Costs a few sessions rather than a standing monthly commitment

Timed paper sessions in the final two terms

Ninety minutes under conditions, marked immediately afterwards, from January of DP2. The marking conversation is the product; the paper is just how it is generated. Two a week is the ceiling, because stamina matters more than volume by April and tired practice teaches bad habits.

  • Full paper, timed, then marked line by line on screen
  • Higher Level third papers included, which most students never practise
  • Official past material referenced through the school, not supplied by us
  • Friday afternoon or a weekend morning, with a fresh student

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Lakes

01

What a 'near me' search optimises for, and what that costs

A proximity search sorts tutors by driving distance from The Lakes. That is a sensible way to buy a plumber and a poor way to buy a Higher Level Chemistry teacher, because the thing being optimised - minutes in a car - is not a thing that produces marks. The filter has two costs, and both are measurable. It raises the hourly rate, and it shrinks the pool you are choosing from.

The rate effect first. Dubai in-home visits are published at AED 180 to AED 350 in the 2026 rate study and up to AED 500 in independent listings, while an equivalently qualified tutor teaching online is quoted at AED 150 to AED 300. The difference is the journey, and for a Lakes address that journey happens between 16:00 and 16:30 in the direction everybody else is also driving. Across a weekly hour for the two Diploma years, the premium alone runs into several thousand dirhams.

The pool effect is larger and less visible. A Diploma student takes three Higher Level subjects. Within twenty minutes of Hattan, the set of tutors who can teach Higher Level Chemistry to DP2 standard is small, and in a given term part of it is already committed. The same is true for Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and for whichever third Higher Level the student has chosen. So a geographic search typically yields one good match and two people who are available.

There is a third cost that only appears later. Dubai is a transient market, and an in-home arrangement ends when the tutor's residency does. Families who have rebuilt a Diploma tutoring arrangement in the middle of DP2 will recognise the expense of that, which is not an hourly rate at all but a lost term. A video arrangement survives a relocation on either side, which in a two-year programme is worth more than the hourly difference.

02

Two years of Diploma support, priced from the top down

  • Figures assume about 36 teaching weeks a year and one subject
  • Rates are other providers' published bands, read October 2026, not IB Gram prices
  • Two subjects doubles every figure in the table
  • Ask every provider in writing whether its quote includes VAT

Work downward from the most expensive option, because that is how you find out what you are actually buying. At AED 650 an hour - the top published Dubai figure, from one premium provider - a single weekly hour across the two Diploma years is a substantial five-figure commitment in dirhams. At the specialist band of AED 200 to AED 450 identified in the 2026 rate study, the same weekly hour is roughly a third to two-thirds of that. At the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to AED 300 it is lower again.

The table converts each published band into a two-year figure for one weekly hour, because that is the number a household actually commits to and nobody in this market publishes it. Read the right-hand column before the left one: the question is not which rate is lowest but which band contains a person who can teach the specific component your child is losing marks on. Paying AED 450 for general revision is worse value than paying AED 200 for targeted work on a Paper 3.

Two structural notes about the figures. They assume an hour a week for roughly thirty-six teaching weeks a year, which is what a Dubai school year supports once holidays and examination weeks are removed. And they are single-subject figures: a Diploma student funded in two subjects doubles everything. That doubling is why the allocation question in the next section matters more than the rate negotiation most families spend their energy on.

None of these are IB Gram prices. Our quote is given after the free trial lesson, against the subject, the level and the component involved, and there is no package to buy in order to start. We publish no VAT position, because the UAE treatment of tuition fees is a Federal Tax Authority matter rather than ours to assert - ask any provider directly whether a quoted figure includes it, and get the answer in writing before you transfer anything.

Six subjects, three Higher Levels, and a budget for two

  • Conditional subjects before non-conditional ones, always
  • A two-grade gap is better value than chasing a 7 from a 6
  • An unprepared 20 per cent component beats general revision per dirham
  • The core carries up to 3 points and is the cheapest place to buy them

No Lakes household funds six Diploma subjects, so the allocation decision is the real one. It has a method. Start by separating the subjects where a grade is a condition of something from the subjects where it is merely a grade. A Higher Level science required for a medicine or engineering offer is not interchangeable with a Standard Level subject chosen to balance the diploma, and the money follows the condition.

Second, look at the distance from the target rather than the absolute grade. A student sitting at a 4 in Higher Level Chemistry who needs a 6 has a two-grade gap, which is a term's work. A student at a 6 who wants a 7 is chasing the hardest marks in the subject and will often spend more for less movement. The efficient purchase is almost always the two-grade gap in a conditional subject, not the one-grade gap at the top.

Third, look at the component rather than the subject. Around a fifth of most Diploma subject grades sits in an internally assessed piece of coursework, and Higher Level mathematics has a Paper 3 worth another fifth that almost no student practises under timed conditions. An hour aimed at a 20 per cent component that is currently unprepared buys more marks than an hour of general revision across a paper the student already half knows.

Fourth, and least intuitive: fund the core. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together carry up to three bonus points, and neither has a timetabled daily lesson, so they are systematically underprepared. Three or four coaching sessions placed at the right checkpoints is a few thousand dirhams at most, against three points that can decide whether a conditional offer is met. Nothing else in the Diploma has that ratio.

04

Where the marks sit: component weightings across the Diploma

This is the table nobody in this market publishes, and it is the one a parent allocating a budget actually needs. A Diploma subject grade is built from weighted components, and the weightings differ by subject and by level. Knowing them turns a vague worry about a subject into a specific decision about an hour: if 44 per cent of a science grade sits in Paper 2 and the student's mock showed the losses there, that is where the money goes.

The pattern is worth reading as a whole. Mathematics places 20 per cent in the exploration at both levels and adds a Paper 3 worth another 20 per cent at Higher Level. The sciences under the current guide place 36 per cent in Paper 1, 44 per cent in Paper 2 and 20 per cent in the scientific investigation at both levels, with Higher Level adding content rather than a paper. Economics and Business Management shift substantially between levels, with Higher Level adding a third paper and reducing the coursework share.

Two components are chronically underprepared relative to their weight. The first is Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, a long investigative paper that students meet for the first time in a mock. The second is the internally assessed coursework in every subject, which is worth around a fifth of the grade and is written once, usually late, often without feedback against the published criteria. Both are addressable in small numbers of hours, which is what makes them the efficient purchase.

One caution on the figures. Weightings are taken from the current subject guides and the IB revises them subject by subject on its own cycle, so confirm against your child's own guide or with the school's IB coordinator before planning from them. For the same reason no IB examination or results date appears anywhere on this page: ibo.org is the authority and the coordinator is the person who knows your cohort's dates.

Three bonus points: the cheapest marks in the Diploma

  • Three or four sessions at the planning, draft and reflection points
  • Internal deadlines are published by the school; build the blocks around them
  • The tutor returns questions and criterion references, never replacement text
  • Up to 3 points for a few sessions is the best ratio available in the programme

The Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay are graded together on a matrix that awards up to three bonus points toward the Diploma total. Three points moves a 35 to a 38. In a market where Dubai specialist tutoring costs AED 270 an hour, those three points are available for a handful of coaching sessions, because the work is underprepared almost universally and because nobody is timetabled to teach it daily.

The Extended Essay goes wrong in predictable places. A research question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words. A methodology that produces opinion rather than evidence. A first draft submitted without anybody checking it against the assessment criteria. Reflection sessions treated as an administrative formality rather than as assessed evidence of process. Each of those is a single conversation at the right moment, and the right moments are known in advance because the school publishes its internal deadlines.

Theory of Knowledge fails differently. Students write about knowledge in general where the essay asks about a prescribed title and expects real-world examples handled precisely. The exhibition asks for objects connected to a prompt and justified, which rewards specificity over sophistication. Two sessions on structure and example selection move a Theory of Knowledge grade more reliably than a term of discussion about the nature of truth.

The honesty boundary here is absolute and worth restating because the temptation is highest. A tutor questions the research question, reads what the student has written and names the criterion not yet met. A tutor does not write the Extended Essay, does not draft a Theory of Knowledge essay, and does not rewrite paragraphs into their own prose. Line-editing until the words are the tutor's is authorship by instalment. Submissions that are not the student's own work are a malpractice matter for the student.

06

Packages, group classes and the extras outside the hourly rate

  • Ask for expiry, cancellation notice and refund terms in writing before any discount
  • Ask whether materials, reports or travel are billed separately
  • Ask what happens if the tutor leaves Dubai mid-programme
  • Ask whether the quoted figure includes VAT, and keep the answer

The hourly rate is the number everybody compares and the smallest part of what is actually being bought. A package of twenty sessions at a discount is only cheaper if all twenty are used before they expire, and in a household in The Views or Zulal where tournaments and travel cancel two or three sessions a term, they frequently are not. Ask for the expiry terms, the cancellation notice period and the refund position before any discount is interesting.

Group classes are the other apparent saving. Six students at a lower per-head rate looks like clear arithmetic until you consider what is being delivered: one explanation at one pace, with no diagnosis of your child's specific component losses. For a cohort revising the same paper to the same deadline that can work. For a student losing marks on command terms in Paper 2 while the person beside them is losing them on calculation, it does not, and the per-mark cost ends up higher than one-to-one.

Then there are the extras that sit outside the rate and are rarely stated up front. Materials, where some providers charge for a workbook that duplicates what the school already issued. Report writing, charged per report by some agencies. Travel, in an in-home arrangement, sometimes billed separately from the hour. Replacement, where the policy if a tutor leaves mid-year ranges from an immediate substitute to nothing. And VAT, which should be stated rather than assumed.

The table compares provider models rather than named companies, on the dimensions that actually produce surprises. Use it as a question list. A provider who answers all eight columns in writing before you pay is a provider whose arrangement will hold; one who answers only the rate column has told you something about how the rest of it will be handled.

07

Judging whether an hour was worth what it cost

  • Agree the component and its current mark before the second lesson
  • Marked written work between sessions is part of the plan, not an extra
  • Six sessions, then compare the component mark and decide
  • Four honest outcomes: change focus, change format, change tutor, or stop

Tutoring is bought on hope and should be judged on evidence, and the evidence has to be agreed before the money starts. The method is short. Before the second lesson, write down which component is being targeted and what the current mark on it is. Set written work to be marked between sessions. At six sessions, compare the mark on that component. That is it, and it is the whole of what distinguishes a measurable arrangement from a subscription.

What counts as evidence is narrower than families expect. A mark on the targeted component in school work or in a marked past paper counts. A tutor's report that the student is more confident does not, because confidence rises in the first three sessions of every arrangement regardless of whether anything is being learned. Nor does the student's own sense that the lessons are useful, which correlates with how pleasant the tutor is rather than with marks.

If the mark has not moved at six sessions there are exactly four possibilities and all four are actionable. The diagnosis was wrong, so change the component. The format is wrong, so change frequency or length - two shorter sessions often beat one long one. The tutor is wrong, so change the tutor. Or tutoring is not the intervention needed, in which case stop and have a conversation with the school about tier, set or subject choice instead.

The reason to agree this at the start is that nobody renegotiates in March. A family six months into a weekly arrangement with no agreed measure will keep paying because stopping feels like giving up, and that inertia is worth more to a provider than any discount. A six-session review with stopping named as one of the options is the single cheapest piece of financial discipline available in this market.

08

Retakes, remarks and sitting as a private candidate

Three cost questions arrive after results day and almost nobody plans for them. The first is the review of marks, which opens from the student's results release and has a deadline set by the board. For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications the windows and fees are published by the board and administered through the centre; for the Diploma the process runs through the school. In all cases the decision has to be made quickly, which is why knowing the results date in advance matters.

The second is the retake. The Diploma can be resat in a later session, and the practical questions are how many subjects, whether the coursework carries forward and what the school will support. Each of those has a cost attached and the answers differ by school, so the conversation belongs with the IB coordinator rather than with a tutoring provider. What a tutor can offer is a focused block on the specific papers being resat, which is a shorter and cheaper purchase than a year of weekly support.

The third is sitting as a private candidate, which arises when a student has left a school, is between schools, or wants a subject the school does not offer. Entry is arranged through a school or examination centre willing to accept external candidates, and the fee is set by that centre rather than published centrally. No figure appears on this page because none was verified for it; ask two or three centres directly and compare, because the range is wide.

Across all three, the honest framing is the same. These are administrative processes run by boards, schools and centres, and no tutoring provider performs, accelerates or guarantees any of them. A provider implying that hiring them affects a remark, a retake or an entry is describing something it does not control. What tutoring does is prepare a specific paper for a specific sitting, and that is worth buying on its own terms.

Starting from The Lakes without buying a package

  • No package to start; pay by the session and stop whenever
  • Free trial lesson, one subject, no card details collected
  • Tutor location and expected match time stated before you commit
  • No grade promises, no borrowed accreditation, no unsourced statistics

The first step costs nothing and is deliberately small. Tell us the school, the Diploma year, the six subjects with their levels, and the component you believe is weakest - or send a marked mock paper and let us say which it is. We come back with a tutor who teaches that subject at that level, a proposed focus for the first three lessons, and a rate. Then take the free trial lesson in one subject, with no card details collected.

What we will not do is sell you a block to start. Pay-as-you-go is the default here precisely because it is the format with no expiry risk, and because a household that can stop at any point is a household that gets a measurable arrangement rather than an inert one. If a package ever makes sense for you, it will be after six sessions, not before the first.

The limit is availability in narrow combinations. Mainstream Diploma subjects match within a few days. Higher Level Philosophy, a less common Language B, Music, or a request for one tutor across an unusual Higher and Standard pairing can take longer, and the tutor may be based outside the UAE teaching into Gulf Standard Time. We state which, and from where, before anything is agreed - a disclosure no competitor page researched in this market makes at all.

Two closing statements of position. IB Gram makes no grade or points promise, publishes no statistic about past students that it cannot evidence, and holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership. And private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit: the private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, granted free of charge for two years. Asking any provider about it is reasonable.

Where we tutor

Where the money goes around Emirates Living

Tutor supply and spending patterns differ across the communities that share The Lakes' schools. These notes are about what families in each actually fund, and what the local market can supply.

The Lakes

Villa households, mostly with Diploma or IGCSE-age children at schools outside the community. Demand concentrates on Higher Level sciences and mathematics, which is exactly where the local in-home pool is thinnest and the premium highest.

The Meadows

Emirates International School Meadows sits inside the community and runs the IB continuum, so Meadows households more often fund MYP criterion work - the cheaper band - than Diploma examination support.

The Springs

Townhouses with a younger average age, so spending here is on Key Stage 3 and MYP foundations. This is the community where early, low-cost intervention has the longest payback before Diploma rates apply.

Emirates Hills

Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Dubai British School Emirates Hills create a split market: IB Diploma families at the specialist band alongside A Level families at a slightly lower one.

The Greens

Apartment stock with Regent International School inside it. Shorter commutes mean more families attempt an early weekday slot, and more of them pay for a second subject because the evening has room.

The Views

Beside Emirates Golf Club and close to the Al Sufouh corridor. Households here report the highest rate of activity-driven cancellations, which makes a package with expiring sessions a poor purchase.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Where most of the schools are, and therefore where most in-home tutors are based. A Lakes family hiring locally is usually hiring from this pool and paying for the return drive in both directions.

Dubai Marina and JLT

The nearest dense tutor supply outside Emirates Living. The drive in at 16:30 is the reason an in-home visit from here is quoted at the upper end of the published AED 180 to AED 500 band.

Jumeirah Islands and Jumeirah Park

Villa communities across the motorway with a similar subject profile. Worth noting because tutors serving them rarely also serve Emirates Living in the same evening, which tightens local supply further.

School ecosystem

British-route schools in the same catchment

Included because the budgeting decision for many Lakes families is made at 16, between A Level at one of these and the Diploma at an IB school. The hourly rate differs between the two routes in this market, with one agency publishing AED 150 for IGCSE against AED 200 for IB.

The wider Al Barsha South and Dubailand belt

A secondary catchment, and the one that most affects in-home pricing: tutors based here quote the upper part of the published visit band for an Emirates Living address because of the return journey at the end of the school day.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Arcadia School
  • Sunmarke School, Jumeirah Village Triangle

Schools are named to describe the local context a Lakes family is budgeting within; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement by any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject list and one marked paper

Six subjects with their levels, plus a photograph of a marked mock. The marked paper is what turns a budget conversation into a specific one, because it shows which component is losing marks and therefore which hour is worth buying first. Without it, any allocation advice is guesswork dressed as a plan.

  2. 02

We name the component before we name a rate

The proposal says which component the first three lessons target and why that one rather than another - a 20 per cent coursework piece, a Higher Level third paper, a source-technique paper. The rate follows the proposal. A quote given before a diagnosis is a quote for something unspecified.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, one subject, no card

Sixty minutes on a real question from the student's own paper, on a shared screen. You are checking one thing: whether the tutor's diagnosis matches what the marked paper shows. No card details are collected and nothing is owed afterwards if the answer is no.

  4. 04

Pay by the session, review at six

No block, no expiry, no cancellation penalty. Before the second lesson the component and its current mark are written down. At six sessions we compare the mark and name the honest option: continue, change focus, change tutor, or stop. Stopping is a real option and we will say so when it applies.

  5. 05

Add the core blocks at the school's deadlines

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay coaching goes in as short blocks placed at the school's own published checkpoints rather than as a standing hour. Up to three bonus points for a handful of sessions is the best ratio in the Diploma, and it does not disturb the weekly subject hour.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices published with their sources

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider page or rate study that published it, read in October 2026, and converted into the two-year figure a household actually commits to. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars rather than dirhams.

Allocation advice, not just a rate

The useful question in a six-subject programme is which two components to fund, and this page answers it with a method: conditional subjects first, two-grade gaps before one-grade gaps, unprepared 20 per cent components before general revision, and the core before almost anything else.

No package required, ever

Sessions are paid as they happen. There are no credits to expire, no cancellation penalty and no block to buy before a first lesson. In a market where package expiry is the most common way families lose money, that is a structural difference rather than a promotion.

Online, so the rate buys teaching rather than travel

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. On published figures, roughly AED 60 to AED 150 of an in-home hourly rate is the journey rather than the teaching.

A measurable six-session review

The component being targeted and its current mark are written down before the second lesson, and compared at six sessions. Four outcomes are named in advance, one of which is stopping. Agreeing the measure at the start is what prevents an arrangement running for a year on inertia.

The honesty line and the legal position stated

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work, and produces no coursework, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. IB Gram claims no regulator or board accreditation, no UAE office, and no statistic it cannot evidence. The regulators appear here to explain what each governs.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Lakes: your questions answered

Does filtering for an IB tutor near me in The Lakes cost us money?+

Yes, in two ways. It raises the price, because Dubai in-home visits are published at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalently qualified tutor online, and the difference is travel. And it shrinks the pool: within twenty minutes of Hattan the number of tutors who teach Higher Level Chemistry to DP2 standard is small, and some are already committed. A Diploma student needs three Higher Level specialists, and three specialists rarely live in one neighbourhood. Distance is the one search filter that adds cost without adding marks.

What does two years of Diploma tutoring actually add up to?+

For one weekly hour across roughly thirty-six teaching weeks a year: about AED 10,800 at the AED 150 band, about AED 14,400 at AED 200, about AED 19,440 at the AED 270 figure one agency publishes, about AED 32,400 at the AED 450 upper specialist band, and about AED 46,800 at the AED 650 top published rate. Two subjects doubles each of those. Those are other providers' published rates read in October 2026, converted into the figure a household commits to, which nobody in this market publishes.

Three Higher Levels and three Standard Levels. Where should the budget go?+

Four filters, in order. Fund subjects where the grade is a condition of an offer before subjects where it is only a grade. Prefer a two-grade gap in a conditional subject to chasing a 7 from a 6, because the top marks cost the most for the least movement. Target an unprepared component worth around 20 per cent of a grade rather than general revision of a paper already half known. And fund the core, because Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay carry up to three bonus points for a handful of sessions.

Is it worth paying for help with a component worth a fifth of the grade?+

It is usually the best purchase available. Most Diploma subjects place around 20 per cent of the grade in internally assessed coursework, and Higher Level mathematics adds a Paper 3 worth a further fifth that most students meet for the first time in a mock. Both are written once, late, and often without feedback against the published criteria. Three or four well-timed sessions on an unprepared fifth of a grade moves more marks per dirham than a term of general revision. Check the weightings in your child's own subject guide, since the IB revises them by cycle.

How many points are Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay worth together?+

Up to three bonus points toward the Diploma total, awarded from the combination of the two grades. Neither has a daily timetabled lesson, which is why both are systematically underprepared and why they are the cheapest marks in the programme. The Extended Essay fails in predictable places - an unanswerable research question, a methodology producing opinion, a draft never checked against the criteria - and each is a single conversation at a known checkpoint. The school publishes those checkpoints, so the coaching can be booked in advance rather than in a panic.

What should I ask about replacement if a tutor leaves Dubai mid-programme?+

Ask it before you start, in writing. Dubai is a transient market and an in-home arrangement generally ends when the tutor's residency does, with no replacement attached. Platform and agency models vary: some rematch within days, some depend entirely on the contract, and some offer nothing. In a two-year programme the cost of rebuilding an arrangement mid-DP2 is a lost term, which is larger than any hourly difference. A video arrangement survives a relocation on either side, which is a practical rather than a marketing advantage.

Six students in a group class at a lower rate. Does that arithmetic work?+

Only when everybody in the room is losing the same marks. A group class delivers one explanation at one pace with no per-student diagnosis, which suits a cohort revising the same paper to the same deadline. It does not suit a student losing marks on command terms while the person beside them is losing them on calculation, and in that case the per-mark cost ends up higher than one-to-one despite the lower per-head rate. Ask what diagnostic the centre runs before placing students, and whether the group is grouped by weakness or by availability.

What are the extras that sit outside the hourly rate?+

Five recur. Materials, where some providers charge for a workbook duplicating what the school already issued. Progress reports, billed per report by some agencies. Travel, sometimes charged separately from the hour in an in-home arrangement. Replacement, where the policy if a tutor leaves ranges from an immediate rematch to nothing at all. And VAT, which should be stated rather than assumed - the UAE treatment of tuition fees is a Federal Tax Authority matter, so ask any provider directly whether its quote includes it and keep the answer.

How do I work out whether an hour of tutoring was worth what we paid?+

Agree the measure before the second lesson: which component is targeted and what the current mark on it is. Set written work to be marked between sessions. At six sessions, compare the mark on that component. A mark counts as evidence; a report that the student is more confident does not, because confidence rises in the first three sessions of every arrangement regardless. If the mark has not moved there are four honest options - change the component, change the format, change the tutor, or stop - and all four are better than paying on inertia.

What does it cost to sit IB examinations as a private candidate in Dubai?+

The fee is set by the school or examination centre that accepts external candidates rather than published centrally, so no figure appears here because none was verified for this page. Ask two or three centres directly and compare, because the range is wide. Entry has to be arranged through a centre willing to take private candidates, and availability for Diploma subjects is narrower than for IGCSE. No tutoring provider arranges, accelerates or guarantees an entry; what a tutor can do is prepare the specific papers for that sitting.

If my child resits a subject in a later session, what does that add in cost?+

Less than a year of weekly support, if it is planned properly. A resit is a focused block on specific papers rather than a full re-teach, so it is usually a short run of sessions aimed at the components where marks were lost. The questions that actually determine the cost are administrative: how many subjects, whether coursework carries forward, and what the school will support. Those belong with the IB coordinator rather than with a tutoring provider, because the answers differ by school and each one has a fee attached.

Our tutor is inexpensive but the grades have not moved. What should we change?+

Change the diagnosis before you change the price. Cheap and ineffective is usually a targeting failure rather than a quality one: an hour of general revision at any rate produces little, while an hour aimed at an unprepared 20 per cent component produces marks even at the lower band. Ask the tutor to name the component they are working on and the current mark. If they cannot, the arrangement has no measure and no amount of extra spending will fix that. If they can and it has not moved in six sessions, change the tutor.

Why is Higher Level tutoring priced above Standard Level in Dubai?+

Partly content and partly scarcity. Higher Level courses carry additional material and, in several subjects, an extra paper - Higher Level mathematics adds a Paper 3 worth 20 per cent, Economics and Business Management each add a third paper. That requires a teacher who has taught to that level recently, and in Dubai that pool is smaller than the Standard Level pool. The published evidence of the step is visible across boards too: one agency lists AED 150 an hour for IGCSE support against AED 200 for IB.

Can we drop from two subjects to one and still make progress?+

Usually yes, and it is often the better arrangement rather than a compromise. One hour a week with marked work between sessions produces a complete feedback cycle; two hours split across two subjects with nothing in between produces two incomplete ones. If both subjects genuinely need support, alternating them fortnightly with written work set in the off week keeps two cycles running at one subject's monthly cost. What does not work is two subjects, two hours and no marked work, which is the most expensive version of homework supervision available.

Does the price depend on whether the tutor lives in Dubai?+

It can, and you should ask. A UAE-based tutor working online is priced within the same AED 150 to AED 300 band as the broader market, while the in-home premium of AED 180 to AED 500 applies only where someone is travelling. Where no UAE-based specialist is free for a narrow Diploma subject, a tutor based elsewhere teaching into Gulf Standard Time may be proposed, and we say so before anything is agreed. No competitor page researched in this market discloses a coverage limit or a tutor's location at all.

Send the marked mock, and we will say which hour to buy first

The most useful thing you can send is a photograph of one marked mock paper alongside the six subjects and their levels. That lets us name the component worth funding first instead of quoting a rate for something unspecified. The trial lesson is free, covers one subject, and takes no card details, and there is no package to buy before it or after it. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; nobody arrives at a Lakes address, because home visits are a service we offer only in India. If the honest answer is that one subject and a core block is all you need, that is what we will propose.
