IB Physics Tutor in The Lakes

Parents in The Lakes type 'IB physics tutor near me' and get a list of agencies rather than an answer. Here is the answer: the pool of people within a short drive of Emirates Living who have actually taught Theme D fields at Higher Level is small, and it shrinks again if your child sits Physics HL. IB Gram matches Lakes families to an IB Physics specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so the person on the screen is chosen for the syllabus rather than the postcode.

What a Lakes parent is really asking when they search for a Physics tutor

The search phrase is about distance, but the worry underneath it is not. A parent in The Lakes typing 'IB physics tutor near me' is asking something narrower and harder: is there anybody reachable who actually knows this syllabus? Not science in general. Not physics as it was taught twenty years ago in another country. The specific IB Physics course their child is sitting, with its five themes, its two papers, its data-analysis section and its 24-mark scientific investigation. That is a fair question and it deserves a straight answer rather than a map pin.

The straight answer is that proximity and subject depth pull in opposite directions in this part of Dubai. The Lakes sits inside Emirates Living, a villa community with Emirates International School Meadows, Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Regent International School within a few minutes, and the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh schools fifteen minutes further on. There is no shortage of people in that radius who can help a child with secondary science. There is a genuine shortage of people who have taught Physics at Higher Level, marked against the current guide, and can tell you from memory what Theme D contains and what the HL extension to it adds. Searching by distance filters for the first group and ignores the second.

IB Gram resolves that by dropping the distance filter altogether. Every lesson for a UAE family is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. What that buys a Lakes household is a specialist rather than a neighbour: a tutor whose teaching history is in IB Physics specifically, who is not chosen because they happen to live on the right side of Sheikh Zayed Road, and who is not charging an hour of Dubai traffic back to you as part of the rate.

The rest of this page is written to answer the question properly. It sets out what the current Physics guide contains theme by theme, where the marks sit in each component, what the four internal-assessment criteria reward and what a tutor may legitimately do with an investigation that must remain the student's own work. It publishes what the Dubai market charges in AED, with the source of each figure, because three of the six strongest pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all. It covers the maths a Physics HL student is quietly assumed to have, the permit a private tutor in the UAE is required to hold, and what happens on the days when no Higher Level specialist has a free slot.

Read the tables before the prose if you are short of time. They are the part no competing page in this search has.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics reaches a Lakes child through more than one route. Most start inside an integrated sciences course at eleven, specialise at fourteen, and only meet the Diploma course at sixteen. Knowing which stage your child is at changes what a tutor should be doing with them.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Physics

The course this page is about. Students take Physics at Standard or Higher Level alongside five other subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. Content is organised into five themes rather than the older topic-and-option structure, and the assessment is two written papers plus one internally assessed scientific investigation. Higher Level is not the Standard course plus extras bolted on the end; the HL material is woven inside each theme.

Within a few minutes of The Lakes, Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills both run the Diploma, so a Physics DP cohort in this neighbourhood is usually small enough that one teacher carries both levels. That is normal and it is also why a second voice on a difficult theme is in demand here from October of DP1 onwards.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Physics is not a separate subject here. It sits inside Sciences, assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Each criterion is marked out of eight. A child who arrives in DP1 with strong criterion A marks and weak criterion C marks will usually struggle with Paper 1B data questions before they struggle with the physics itself.

Emirates International School Meadows runs the full continuum, so a number of Lakes children move from MYP 5 straight into DP Physics inside the same building. The gap they feel is rarely content. It is the shift from criterion-based marking out of eight to a paper marked against command terms and a mark scheme.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE Physics

The other common route into DP Physics in this part of Dubai, since British-curriculum schools account for the largest share of Dubai private-school enrolment. Cambridge Physics is syllabus 0625 with a Core and an Extended tier; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics is 4PH1 and is untiered. Both finish with a practical component, assessed either by a practical test or by a written alternative, which is where a lot of IGCSE students meet variables and uncertainties for the first time.

Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai College sit either side of The Lakes and run the British route, so plenty of Lakes students arrive in DP1 from an Extended-tier IGCSE rather than from MYP. They tend to find Theme A and Theme C familiar and Theme D unrecognisable, because fields at Higher Level go well past anything 0625 asks for.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics rarely arrives on its own. A Lakes student asking for help with fields is often really asking for help with the vector algebra underneath it, and a student stuck on an investigation is usually stuck on uncertainty rather than on apparatus. These are the subjects most often booked alongside Physics by families in Emirates Living.

IB Physics

Higher Level

180 taught hours across five themes, with rigid-body mechanics and special relativity extending Theme A, entropy and heat engines extending Theme B, and induction extending Theme D. Paper 1 runs to two hours at this level. Most HL students lose marks on the extended-response items in Paper 2 rather than on recall.

IB Physics

Standard Level

110 taught hours over the same five themes without the HL extensions. The weightings are identical to Higher Level: Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the scientific investigation at 20%. Standard Level students most often struggle with Theme D fields and with the graphical reasoning in Paper 1B.

Physics scientific investigation

HL and SL

The internally assessed component, worth 20% at both levels, written to a 3,000-word maximum and marked out of 24 across four criteria. Support is teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor who offers anything beyond that is putting the candidate at risk, not helping them.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual partner subject for Physics HL. Differentiation, integration, trigonometric identities and vectors all appear in Physics before they are finished in Maths, so a Physics student who is behind in AA feels it in Theme A kinematics and again in Theme D. Sequencing the two courses together saves weeks.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Taken by a sizeable minority of Physics SL students. AI covers regression and statistics in more depth and calculus in less, which shows up when a student meets rate-of-change arguments in Theme B. Worth flagging early if your child is considering an engineering degree, since entry requirements differ by route.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

Frequently taken alongside Physics by Lakes students aiming at engineering or medicine. The two courses share an assessment model, the same four internal-assessment criteria and the same 3,000-word limit, so a student who learns to write one investigation well usually writes the second one faster.

IB Computer Science

HL and SL

Chosen by Physics students who want a second technical subject. The overlap is logic, binary representation and the systems thinking in Theme E, and the course rewards the same habit of defining variables precisely that Paper 1B rewards in Physics.

IB Design Technology

HL and SL

Runs at several Dubai IB schools and leans on mechanics, materials and energy from the Physics course. Students who take both tend to need help separating a design argument from a physics explanation, because the command terms reward different things.

Extended Essay in Physics

DP core

A 4,000-word independent research essay, supervised in school. Tutoring here is process coaching: narrowing a research question until it is answerable with the apparatus available, reading the assessment criteria properly, and reviewing the student's own drafts. The essay has to be theirs from first word to last.

MYP Sciences

MYP 1-5

Where Lakes children meet physics content before the Diploma. Work focuses on criterion B inquiring and designing and criterion C processing and evaluating, because those two are the direct ancestors of Paper 1B and of the DP investigation.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of Physics support account for almost every Lakes enquiry. The difference between them is not price per hour. It is what the hour is for: building a theme from scratch, repairing exam technique, or getting an investigation unstuck.

Weekly one-to-one, theme by theme

A standing slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually sixty or ninety minutes, working through the theme the school is on plus the backlog underneath it. Ninety minutes suits Physics better than sixty because a worked extended-response question and its mark scheme rarely fit inside an hour.

  • Same tutor every week, so the backlog is tracked rather than rediscovered
  • Written note after each session naming what was covered and what to practise
  • Session length chosen per student, not fixed by a package

Paper-technique block before a mock or a session

A short run of sessions aimed entirely at the papers rather than the content: command terms, how Paper 1B data questions differ from the data items in Paper 2, how to structure an extended response so the marks are findable, and how to spend two hours at Higher Level without running out of time.

  • Past-paper work done live, marked against the official criteria
  • Timing drills at full paper length, not question by question
  • Official papers referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied

Scientific-investigation clinic

Short, intensive support at the two points where investigations fail: choosing a research question that can actually be answered with available apparatus, and turning raw readings into analysis that earns criterion B and criterion C marks. The writing stays entirely with the student.

  • Research question narrowed until it is measurable
  • Uncertainty and error treatment taught properly, not patched at the end
  • Feedback given on the student's own draft, with no text supplied

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Lakes

01

Who you will actually find teaching Physics within reach of The Lakes

Start with the honest version. Within a twenty-minute drive of The Lakes there are five or six strong schools, a handful of tuition centres and a large informal market of private tutors advertising on community groups. Most of the people in that market are competent. Very few of them are IB Physics specialists, and fewer still have taught Higher Level in the last two years. That is not a slur on anybody. It is arithmetic: Physics is the least-taken of the three main IB sciences at most schools, Higher Level is the smaller half of that, and a neighbourhood of a few thousand villas simply does not contain many people who have done it.

The practical consequence is that a distance-first search gives you the wrong shortlist. You will get science graduates, engineers, retired teachers from other systems and university students, all nearby and all cheaper than a specialist. Some of them will be genuinely useful to a child who has missed a fortnight of Theme A and needs the basics rebuilt. None of them will reliably spot that your child's Paper 2 answers are losing marks because they describe when the command term asks them to explain, or that their investigation has an uncontrolled variable that will cost criterion A marks no matter how neat the write-up is.

The table below is the shortcut. It lists the categories of tutor a Lakes parent realistically encounters, what each one tends to be good at, where the gap usually shows, and one question you can ask in the first five minutes that reveals which category you are talking to. The questions are deliberately specific. A person who knows the current guide answers them without pausing; a person who learned physics elsewhere and is improvising will give you a general answer about problem-solving.

What the current IB Physics guide actually contains, theme by theme

IB Physics is organised into five themes labelled A to E rather than the older core-plus-options structure. Theme A is space, time and motion. Theme B is the particulate nature of matter. Theme C is wave behaviour. Theme D is fields. Theme E is nuclear and quantum physics. Standard Level runs to 110 taught hours and Higher Level to 180, and the extra seventy hours are not a separate module at the end. They sit inside the themes, which is why a student who moves from SL to HL mid-course finds the earlier material has grown rather than been added to.

Knowing the theme letters matters more than it sounds. School schemes of work, revision guides and tutor conversations all use them, and a parent who can say 'she is fine until Theme D' has described the problem precisely enough for a specialist to quote a plan. It also works as a credential test. Anyone who has taught the current course can tell you what sits in Theme D without looking it up; anyone working from the previous structure will reach for topic numbers instead.

The pattern of difficulty is consistent across Dubai cohorts. Theme A feels familiar to anyone with a decent IGCSE, which breeds false confidence. Theme B punishes students who learned gas laws as formulae. Theme C is where graphical reasoning starts to matter. Theme D is where most students genuinely stall, because gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are taught as one idea with three faces and a student who learned them as three separate chapters cannot transfer between them. Theme E then arrives late in DP2, when revision for everything else has already started.

Paper by paper: where the marks are and how they leave the room

The assessment is three components and the weightings are identical at both levels, which surprises most parents. Paper 1 carries 36% and splits in two: Paper 1A is multiple choice and Paper 1B is a set of data-based and experimental questions. Paper 2 carries 44% and mixes short-answer with extended-response items. The scientific investigation carries 20%. Standard Level students sit shorter papers; Higher Level students sit two hours on Paper 1 and two and a half on Paper 2, so stamina becomes a real variable rather than a figure of speech.

Paper 1B is the component most often neglected and the one most responsive to tutoring. It asks students to work with somebody else's experiment: read a method, identify the controlled variable, interpret a graph, comment on uncertainty, suggest an improvement. Those are the skills of the investigation, examined under time pressure on unfamiliar apparatus. A student who has done a good investigation and never practised 1B will still lose marks, because the paper rewards speed of recognition rather than care.

Paper 2 loses marks for a different reason. The command terms do precise work. Describe, explain, deduce, discuss and justify each ask for a different structure, and an extended-response answer that gives a good physical account without matching the command term collects partial credit at best. In practice a Lakes student who is capable of a 6 and scoring a 4 is usually losing those two grades in the extended responses, not in the content. That is a diagnosable, fixable problem, and it is the single most common reason a family in Emirates Living books Physics support in the first place.

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion, and what a tutor may touch

Twenty per cent of the grade is decided before any exam, by a single piece of coursework marked out of 24 against four criteria, each worth six marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The report runs to a 3,000-word maximum. Those are the numbers that nobody ranking for these searches publishes, and they are the numbers that decide whether your child's investigation is on track in November of DP2 or already capped.

The failure mode is almost always criterion A. A student picks a question they find interesting rather than one they can control, measures something with an uncontrolled variable sitting in the middle of it, and then writes a careful report about compromised data. No amount of polish in the conclusion recovers those marks, because the criteria are not independent: a weak design limits what the analysis can show, and a limited analysis caps the conclusion. The investigation is won in the first fortnight and lost in the first fortnight.

The honesty boundary here is firm and worth stating plainly, because at least one site ranking in this search sells completed internal assessments outright. A tutor may teach the underlying physics, explain what each criterion rewards, ask the questions that expose a flawed design, teach uncertainty treatment and graph construction properly, and read a draft the student has written and say where it falls short. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite sections, produce the analysis or draft the report. Under IB academic-honesty rules the work has to be the candidate's own, and a breach is a malpractice matter for the student, not an inconvenience for the tutor. No tutor at IB Gram will write an internal assessment for a child.

What Physics tuition costs around Emirates Living, cheapest band first

Work up from the bottom and the price structure explains itself. The cheapest online tutoring advertised to Dubai families starts around AED 45 to 65 an hour at EdFlik and from roughly AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya. Those rates buy a university student or an early-career tutor, usually a generalist. For a child who has missed two weeks of Theme A and needs the mechanics rebuilt, that can be perfectly adequate. For a Higher Level student losing marks on extended responses, it is not, and the reason is simply that the person at that price point has not marked against the criteria.

The next step up is where most Lakes families land. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate survey puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutoring at AED 200 to 450 and above. The jump from the budget band to this one is not a jump in enthusiasm; it is the step from somebody who knows physics to somebody who knows this examination. Premium named and examiner-led tutors sit higher again, with BartyED publishing AED 650 an hour. Every figure in this paragraph is a published competitor or survey rate as of the October 2026 research, not an IB Gram price.

In-home visiting rates are a separate band and the gap is instructive. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages seen in the Dubai market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Compare those two monthly figures and the travel premium becomes visible: roughly double the monthly cost for half the number of contacts. For a Physics student the economics are worse than that, because contact frequency is what fixes paper technique. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE, so these figures are published as market context for the comparison rather than as an alternative we offer.

Maths is the quiet gate in Physics at Higher Level

Physics HL assumes mathematics the student has often not been taught yet. The Diploma does not synchronise the two courses, so a Physics class reaches kinematics with calculus in it before the Maths class has finished differentiation, and reaches fields before vectors are secure. Students read that mismatch as being bad at physics. They are usually behind in maths and converting it into a physics diagnosis, which sends the family looking for the wrong tutor.

The route choice matters too. Analysis and Approaches carries the calculus and algebraic fluency that Physics HL leans on hardest. Applications and Interpretation goes further into statistics and modelling and lighter on calculus, which is survivable alongside Physics SL and uncomfortable alongside Physics HL. The right time to think about this is in the subject-choice weeks of DP1, not in February of DP2, and it is also worth checking the published entry requirements of the specific university courses your child has in mind, since engineering routes differ on this point.

In practice a diagnostic session answers the question quickly. Give a Physics HL student a Theme A problem that needs differentiation and a Theme D problem that needs vector resolution and you can see within twenty minutes whether the obstacle is physical or mathematical. If it is mathematical, the efficient fix is a short block of targeted maths rather than a term of physics tuition, which is cheaper and faster. The table below maps the main pressure points.

07

Practical and data skills when the lesson happens on a screen

The fair objection to online Physics tuition is apparatus. A tutor on a screen cannot hand a student a trolley and a light gate. That objection is real, and it is worth answering rather than brushing aside, because practical work is examined in this course through Paper 1B and through the investigation.

What the examination actually tests, though, is the thinking around apparatus rather than the handling of it. Paper 1B gives the student somebody else's method and somebody else's readings and asks them to find the weakness, process the data and judge the conclusion. Not one mark in that paper depends on having touched the equipment. The investigation does require real measurement, but the measurement happens in the school laboratory under a teacher's supervision, which is where the IB requires it to happen. The parts a tutor can affect are the design before the data and the analysis after it, and both are done better on a shared screen than across a kitchen table, because a spreadsheet, a graph and a mark scheme can all be visible at once.

There is a practical advantage as well. A screen session can be recorded for the student's own revision, graphs can be built live and saved, and a tutor can mark a scanned Paper 2 answer in real time with the official criteria open alongside it. A Lakes family that has tried both usually notices the difference in the week before a mock, when the useful thing is a shared document rather than a shared room.

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

This is the question almost nobody in the search results answers, and it has a clear answer. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are, in the ministry's own words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting you a specific amount is guessing.

The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Those are checkable facts on a government website, and a parent is entitled to ask a tutor whether they hold the permit.

One further constraint is worth knowing because it shapes who may teach your child. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported rather than read from the policy document itself, so treat it as a strong indication to verify rather than a quotation. The general principle still holds in Dubai: 'your child's own class teacher, privately' is not a product anybody should be selling you.

Starting from The Lakes, including what happens when nobody is free

The first step is a conversation rather than a form, and the most useful thing you can bring to it is specificity. 'Physics is going badly' takes a diagnostic session to decode. 'Higher Level, strong on Theme A, lost in Theme D, last Paper 2 came back at 4 with the extended responses blank' lets a specialist quote a plan in ten minutes. If you have a recent mock paper, the school's scheme of work, or the predicted grade, say so. If your child has an investigation already underway, say which stage it is at, because that changes the urgency entirely.

Then there is a free trial lesson, one per student and with no card details needed to book it, with the tutor who would actually teach the course. Not a sales call, not a different person. A Physics trial should include a real problem at the real level, and you should expect to hear the tutor name the theme and the command term rather than talk about confidence and motivation. If the chemistry is wrong, say so and ask for a different match; that costs nothing and it is a far better outcome than three paid sessions of politeness.

The honest part: Higher Level Physics specialists are the scarcest category on the platform, and there are weeks when no suitable tutor has a free slot in the evening band a Lakes family needs. When that happens you will be told, with a date, rather than matched to whoever is available. If the slot you need cannot be covered by a UAE-based tutor, the alternative offered is a UAE-timed slot with an IB Physics specialist elsewhere, which is the same delivery format at the same hour in Gulf Standard Time. Waiting a fortnight for the right person beats starting on Thursday with the wrong one, particularly in a subject where the wrong teaching has to be unlearned before the right teaching can begin.

The useful map for a Physics parent is not a map of drive times. It is a map of which nearby schools actually run DP Physics, and at which levels, because that is what decides how thin the local teaching pool is for your child's exact course.

The Meadows

Directly adjacent, and the location of Emirates International School Meadows, which runs the IB continuum through to the Diploma. Physics DP enquiries from this pocket are usually about Theme D or about an investigation that has stalled at the research-design stage.

Emirates Hills

Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills sits here and runs the Diploma. Enquiries from these villas skew towards Higher Level and towards students holding two sciences plus Maths AA HL, where the timetable pressure matters as much as the content.

The Springs

Townhouses with a younger average age, so most Physics contact here is pre-Diploma: MYP Sciences criterion C, or Extended-tier IGCSE work on electricity and waves before a child commits to Physics at sixteen.

The Greens

Apartments across Sheikh Zayed Road, with Regent International School inside the community. Physics requests from this side are more often British-route IGCSE than Diploma, and more often about practical papers than about theory.

The Views

Mid-rise towers next to Emirates Golf Club with a heavy Diploma presence relative to their size. Sessions booked from here cluster late, after a working parent is home, which suits a 7pm or 8pm Physics slot better than a 4pm one.

Al Barsha

Fifteen minutes east, holding GEMS Dubai American Academy, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and Kings' School Al Barsha. The IB Diploma runs at more than one of these, so a Lakes family comparing schools often asks about Physics teaching strength here first.

Al Sufouh

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School sit on this stretch towards the coast. Both are British-route, which means Physics conversations from Lakes families with children here are about A Level choices rather than about HL and SL.

Dubai Marina

Apartment living with later evenings and a strong weekend preference. Several Marina families share schools with The Lakes, so the same Physics tutor often teaches siblings and classmates across both communities in one week.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Lakes

Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools a Lakes child is most likely to attend, all within roughly ten minutes. Two of them carry the IB Diploma, which is where DP Physics is actually taught in this neighbourhood; the others run the British route to IGCSE and A Level.

  • Emirates International School - Meadows
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Barsha Heights

The secondary ring, fifteen to twenty minutes from The Lakes depending on the hour. Families comparing science provision across Dubai usually end up looking at this cluster, and a number of Lakes students commute into it daily.

  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Repton School Al Barsha
  • American School of Dubai

Motor City, Sports City and the Dubailand belt

A longer run inland, taken by Lakes families who chose a school before they chose a house. Physics enquiries from this group often come with a travel constraint that rules out any after-school session before 6pm.

  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Fairgreen International School

Schools are named here as context for the neighbourhood only. IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from or relationship to any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which theme, not just which subject

Tell us the level, the theme letter where the trouble starts, the last paper mark and whether the investigation is underway. Four pieces of information turn a general enquiry into a specific brief, and they let us check availability against the exact Physics profile your child needs rather than against the word 'science'.

  2. 02

A trial with the tutor who would teach

One free trial lesson per student, no card details required to book, taught by the person who would take the course if you continue. Expect a real problem at the real level, and expect the tutor to name the theme and the command term they are working on. A trial that is all rapport and no physics has told you something useful.

  3. 03

A diagnostic against the real criteria

Before a plan is written, the tutor marks a piece of your child's actual work against the official assessment criteria, and shows you where the marks went. Most Lakes students who book Physics support are losing grades to command terms or to uncertainty treatment rather than to missing content, and that distinction changes the whole plan.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with a written note each time

A standing slot in Gulf Standard Time, sixty or ninety minutes, with a short written note after each session naming what was covered, what was set and what still needs work. The note is for you as much as for the student, because it is how you tell progress from attendance.

  5. 05

    Reassess at each reporting point

School reports, mocks and internal deadlines are the natural review points. At each one the plan is checked against the mark, the level of entry and the state of the investigation, and the session frequency is adjusted. Dropping from weekly to fortnightly once a theme is secure is a normal outcome, not a lost customer.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus, not by distance

The constraint that makes a local Physics search frustrating is removed rather than worked around. A Lakes family is matched to a tutor who has taught the current Physics guide at the level their child sits, and that pool is national rather than a twenty-minute radius of Emirates Living.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the competitor or survey that published it, with the October 2026 research date attached. Three of the six strongest pages in this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in.

The investigation boundary stated in writing

What a tutor may do with an internal assessment is set out on this page, criterion by criterion, and what a tutor may not do is set out just as plainly. One site competing for this search sells completed internal assessments. That is a malpractice risk carried by the student, and it is not something IB Gram will do.

One tutor, tracked, with a written record

The same tutor each week, a written note after every session, and a reassessment at each school reporting point. Continuity is what lets a backlog be cleared in sequence instead of rediscovered, and the note is the evidence a parent needs to judge whether the money is working.

Availability disclosed rather than concealed

Higher Level Physics is the thinnest specialism in the set, and when there is no suitable tutor free in the slot you need you will be told so with a date. No competitor page in this search discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an international phone number.

Regulator facts cited, never borrowed as credentials

KHDA, MoHRE and Ministry of Education requirements are explained on this page with links to the government sources. IB Gram holds no KHDA, MoHRE, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge accreditation and claims none; explaining what a regulator does is not the same as being endorsed by it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Lakes: your questions answered

Is there really an IB Physics tutor near me in The Lakes?+

Within a twenty-minute drive of The Lakes there are plenty of science tutors and very few IB Physics specialists, particularly at Higher Level. Physics is the smallest of the three main IB sciences at most Dubai schools, and Higher Level is the smaller half of that, so the local pool is thin by arithmetic rather than by accident. IB Gram answers the question by removing distance from it: your child is matched to an IB Physics specialist and taught one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The tutor may live elsewhere; the lesson still starts at 7pm Dubai time.

Which IB Physics themes do students around Emirates Living struggle with most?+

Theme D, fields, by a wide margin. Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are one idea presented three ways, and a student who memorised them as three separate chapters cannot move between them under exam pressure. Theme B comes second, usually because gas behaviour was learned as a set of formulae rather than as a particle model. Theme A is deceptive: it looks like IGCSE mechanics, so students coast through it and then meet calculus-based kinematics unprepared. Theme E suffers from timing more than difficulty, since it often arrives in DP2 when revision for everything else has already begun.

How is Paper 1B different from the data questions in Paper 2?+

Paper 1B is a dedicated set of data-based and experimental questions sitting inside the 36% that Paper 1 carries. It hands the student an unfamiliar method and someone else's readings and asks them to identify the controlled variable, process the data, comment on uncertainty and suggest a specific improvement. Paper 2's data items are embedded in wider short-answer and extended-response questions and are usually closer to the taught content. In practice 1B rewards speed of recognition on apparatus a student has never seen, which is why it needs separate practice rather than general revision.

My child is at a Meadows school doing Physics HL and is lost in fields. Is that fixable?+

Usually, and faster than parents expect, because the problem is normally structural rather than cumulative. Students who stall in Theme D have almost always learned gravitational, electric and magnetic fields as three unrelated topics. Teaching the shared structure, inverse-square behaviour, field lines, potential and the force on a test object, lets them reuse one piece of reasoning in three contexts. A specialist will also check the vector mathematics underneath, since resolution of components is often the real obstacle. Six to eight focused sessions is a typical plan, with Paper 2 extended responses practised throughout rather than saved for the end.

Can a tutor help with the Physics scientific investigation without writing any of it?+

Yes, and that is the only acceptable arrangement. A tutor may teach the physics involved, explain what each of the four criteria rewards, interrogate a research question until the student finds the uncontrolled variable themselves, teach uncertainty treatment and graphing on practice data, and read a draft the student has written to say where it falls short. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite sections or produce the analysis. Under IB academic-honesty rules the investigation has to be the candidate's own work, and a breach is a malpractice matter for the student. No IB Gram tutor will write an internal assessment.

What does Physics tuition cost for a family in Emirates Living?+

Market rates in Dubai, as published in October 2026, run from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget online generalists, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, and AED 200 to 450 and above for an IB or IGCSE specialist. TutorChase quotes around AED 270; Bestimate's 2026 Dubai survey puts specialist tutoring at AED 200 to 450 and above. In-home visiting rates sit at AED 180 to 500 because travel is billed through the hourly rate. Those are other providers' published figures, not IB Gram prices. Ask about our rates on the consultation call.

Does my child need Maths AA to cope with Physics at Higher Level?+

Not formally, but Analysis and Approaches carries the calculus and algebraic fluency that Physics HL leans on hardest. Applications and Interpretation goes deeper into statistics and lighter into calculus, which works alongside Physics SL and gets uncomfortable alongside Physics HL, particularly in Theme A kinematics and Theme D fields. The time to weigh this is during DP1 subject choices, and it is worth reading the published entry requirements of the specific university courses your child has in mind, since engineering routes differ. A single diagnostic session will usually show whether the obstacle is physical or mathematical.

How are practical skills taught if the Physics lesson is on a screen?+

The examined practical skills are mostly skills of reasoning about apparatus rather than handling it. Paper 1B gives the student someone else's method and readings to evaluate, and no mark in it depends on having touched the equipment. The scientific investigation does require real measurement, and that happens in the school laboratory under a teacher's supervision, which is where the IB expects it. What a tutor affects is the design before the data and the analysis afterwards. Both are done better on a shared screen, where a spreadsheet, a graph and the criteria can all be visible together.

What time can a Physics session realistically start on a Lakes school night?+

Most Emirates Living schools finish between 2:30pm and 3:30pm, and once activities and the drive home are accounted for, a workable weekday start is 5pm at the earliest. Families with a parent commuting back from Business Bay or DIFC tend to prefer 7pm or 8pm, and an online slot makes that straightforward because there is no travel at either end. Ninety-minute Physics sessions work better than sixty-minute ones, since a full extended-response question and its mark scheme rarely fit inside an hour. Weekend mornings are the other popular band, especially in the run-up to mocks.

Does a Physics tutor teaching my child in Dubai need a MoHRE permit?+

An individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued by MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific figure you read as unverified.

How long is the IB Physics scientific investigation allowed to be?+

The report runs to a maximum of 3,000 words and is marked out of 24. Length is rarely the binding constraint, though. Students who exceed it have usually written a literature review in front of their method, and students well under it have usually skipped the evaluation. The useful target is proportion rather than total: enough design detail that a reader could repeat the experiment, enough analysis that the uncertainty treatment is visible, and a conclusion short enough to be judged against the data. Confirm the current limit with your child's school coordinator before submission.

What do the four Physics investigation criteria actually reward?+

Research design, six marks, rewards a focused question with properly controlled variables and a workable method. Data analysis, six marks, rewards correct processing, honest uncertainty treatment and appropriate graphs. Conclusion, six marks, rewards a conclusion the data actually supports, set against accepted physics. Evaluation, six marks, rewards limitations that are specific and improvements that are realistic. The criteria are not independent: a weak design caps the analysis, and a limited analysis caps the conclusion. That is why investigations are won or lost in the first fortnight rather than in the write-up.

Will the tutor follow my child's school scheme of work or the IB guide?+

Both, in that order of priority. The school's sequence decides what is useful this week, because a student revising Theme C while the class is being assessed on Theme B gets no immediate benefit. The IB guide decides what has to be covered by the end, and it is the reference point for depth at each level. In practice a tutor asks for the scheme of work in the first session, maps it against the guide, and flags anything the school is covering lightly that the examination weights heavily. The investigation timeline comes from the school, since internal deadlines are set there.

What happens if no Physics HL specialist is free when I get in touch?+

You get told, with a date, rather than matched to whoever happens to be available. Higher Level Physics is the thinnest specialism in the set, and the evening slots Lakes families want are the most contested. If no UAE-based tutor covers the slot, the alternative offered is a UAE-timed session with an IB Physics specialist based elsewhere, delivered in the same format at the same Gulf Standard Time hour. Waiting a fortnight for the right match is usually the better outcome, because incorrect teaching in Physics has to be unlearned before correct teaching can take hold.

Ask one specific question and you will know within minutes

If you remember one thing from this page, make it the test rather than the sales pitch. Ask any prospective Physics tutor which theme contains fields and what Higher Level adds to it, then ask them to name the four investigation criteria and their marks. Someone teaching the current guide will answer both without hesitating. Someone improvising will talk about confidence and problem-solving. That question works whether you call us, a Dubai agency or a neighbour's recommendation, and it is a fairer filter than distance. When you are ready, a free trial lesson with the tutor who would teach the course is the next step, and it costs nothing but the hour.
