IB DP Business Management Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

The thing most families do not know when they look for an IB DP business management tutor in Ras Al Khaimah is that Paper 1 is built on a case study published months before the exam. That single fact reorganises the whole revision calendar. This page sets out how the pre-release works, the five units and four concepts, what each component rewards, the research project, and the quantitative tools a student must be able to use quickly.

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

The one fact about this course that should shape your plan from the start

Business Management is the only Diploma subject in a typical Ras Al Khaimah timetable where part of the examination is published in advance. Paper 1 is built on a case study released ahead of the exam session, which means a student can read it, research the industry it sits in, map the course theory onto the organisation described, and practise questions on it, all before the exam. Students who do that walk into Paper 1 with an advantage that cannot be obtained in any other subject. Students who treat Paper 1 as something to revise generally are throwing that advantage away.

The second thing to know is that this is not a soft option. Higher Level runs to 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level. The course has five units: an introduction to business management, human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing, and operations management. Four concepts, creativity, change, ethics and sustainability, run through all five, and examination questions are written against them. There is real arithmetic in it: break-even and contribution, cash flow forecasts, final accounts, profitability and liquidity ratios, and at Higher Level investment appraisal, critical path analysis and simple linear regression.

The third is where marks actually go. Business Management rewards applying theory to a specific organisation and reaching a judgement about it. It does not reward describing theory accurately, which is what a diligent student naturally produces. A student who can define economies of scale perfectly and cannot say what they mean for the particular firm in the stimulus will score in the middle band of every question. That gap between knowledge and application is the single most common pattern in the subject and it is diagnosable from one marked paper.

Families in Ras Al Khaimah usually come for one of three reasons. A DP1 student who finds the finance unit genuinely difficult, because it is arithmetic dressed as a business subject. A DP2 student whose research project has no access to an organisation and no usable data four weeks before the internal deadline. Or a student whose marks sit stubbornly at a 4 or a 5 because every answer explains rather than judges.

The local constraint is supply, as it is in every Diploma subject here. The emirate has a compact private-school set regulated by its own Department of Knowledge, and Business Management groups are small. The teacher carrying it often carries Economics as well. That is a reasonable response to a small year group, and it means additional subject-specific teaching has to come from outside the emirate. Over live video it can, at a fixed time on Gulf Standard Time, with no drive from Al Hamra Village, Mina Al Arab or Al Nakheel at either end of the session.

What this emirate does offer a Business Management student is unusual access to real organisations. There is manufacturing, quarrying, a bulk port, a free zone, construction, hospitality on Al Marjan Island and agriculture inland. A research project needs a real business issue facing a real organisation, and a student here can often reach one through a family connection rather than through a corporate press office. The sections below cover the pre-release calendar, the units and concepts, the three components, the research project stage by stage, where application marks are lost, the quantitative toolkit, the two-year timeline, the pricing question, and the honesty line.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Business Management sits inside a wider IB structure, and the route a student took into it changes what support has to cover. These are the programmes Ras Al Khaimah families ask about.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Individuals and Societies covers economic and social systems without teaching business as a discipline. What transfers is the habit of using evidence to support a claim about a real case, which is precisely what Business Management examination questions demand. Students who scored well on knowledge criteria and poorly on communicating findings tend to show the same split in the Diploma.

Ras Al Khaimah campuses running MYP into Year 11 rarely offer separate business teaching, so most local Diploma students meet the finance and accounts content for the first time in DP1. Budgeting a bridging block on break-even, contribution and ratio arithmetic in the first term is cheaper than repairing it in the exam year.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Business Management is assessed by Paper 1, built on a case study released ahead of the exam session; Paper 2, a data-response paper on unseen stimulus material; and a research project on a real business issue, capped at 1,800 words. Paper 1 carries 35%, Paper 2 carries 40% and the research project carries 25%, at both levels.

In a small northern-emirate cohort, Business Management is often taught by the same teacher who runs Economics, and the Higher Level extensions in each unit are delivered inside shared lessons. The pre-released case study is also the thing most likely to be left to students to read on their own, which is why it is the component a tutor can add most value to.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project, and Business Management is one of the most natural pairings available. A CP student takes exactly the same papers and the same research project as a full Diploma candidate in this subject.

Where a Ras Al Khaimah campus offers CP, the career-related study often connects to logistics, hospitality, construction or manufacturing, all of which exist in the emirate. That gives a CP student in this subject better access to a real organisation for the research project than most full Diploma students have.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early years to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

There is no business content in the Primary Years Programme, but the inquiry structure builds the habit of asking a question and gathering evidence to answer it. That is the foundation the research project assumes, and students who arrive from instruction-led primary schooling find independent research the hardest part of the Diploma.

Few Ras Al Khaimah campuses run the Primary Years Programme, so most local students join the IB pathway at secondary level from a British or Indian curriculum. Independent research is the skill those systems develop least, and it is worth building deliberately in DP1 rather than assuming it will appear when the project starts.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Business Management usually sits alongside other essay-and-analysis subjects in a Diploma timetable. These are the courses Ras Al Khaimah families most often ask about with it.

Business Management

HL and SL

Five units covering the introduction to business, human resources, finance and accounts, marketing and operations, with creativity, change, ethics and sustainability running through all of them. Higher Level extends each unit and adds toolkit tools including critical path analysis and investment appraisal.

Economics

HL and SL

Four units and nine key concepts, assessed by extended response, data response and, at Higher Level, a policy paper, plus a portfolio of three commentaries. Students taking both should keep the styles distinct: Economics rewards diagram analysis, Business Management rewards applied judgement on a named firm.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with technology permitted throughout. Its regression, financial mathematics and descriptive statistics content overlaps with the Business Management toolkit, and these students usually find the finance unit the least intimidating.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebra-and-calculus route with a non-calculator first paper. Business Management does not require it, though students aiming at competitive business or finance degrees should check whether a specific mathematics course is named in the entry requirement.

Global Politics

HL and SL

Power, sovereignty, human rights, development and peace, with an engagement project. The ethics and sustainability concepts in Business Management connect directly to the development content, and the written style demanded is similar.

Geography

HL and SL

Population, climate and resource units with optional themes and a fieldwork requirement. The global interactions content pairs well with international marketing and supply chain topics, and the fieldwork builds the research discipline the project needs.

Psychology

HL and SL

Biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches with research methods throughout. Motivation theory appears in both courses from different directions, and the critical evaluation of a study is the same skill a judgement question rewards.

Digital Society

HL and SL

The social and ethical impact of digital systems, assessed partly through an inquiry project. It overlaps usefully with operations management, data use and the change concept, and the inquiry builds the same research habits.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Two written papers plus an individual oral, with an additional essay at Higher Level. Business Management students usually have the structure and lose marks on close textual analysis, which responds quickly to one-to-one work.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects and a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title. The human sciences are a standing area of knowledge, and a Business Management student has usable material on models, evidence and whether a management theory can be tested.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research essay. A Business Management Extended Essay needs a real organisation and a defensible research question, and it must stay distinct from the research project rather than reworking the same material.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, chosen by which component is costing marks rather than by a package name. Most families begin with the first and add the second when the project deadline appears.

Weekly teaching with answers marked

One fixed session a week, split between content and a piece of writing produced since the last session and marked against the published criteria. For this subject the marking matters most on the application and judgement bands, where a well-written answer about theory can still score in the middle.

  • Same tutor and slot weekly on Gulf Standard Time
  • One marked extended answer every session
  • Quantitative questions timed separately from written ones
  • Specific practice set rather than a chapter to read

Pre-released case study block

A block of sessions once the case study is published, spent reading it properly, researching the industry it sits in, mapping course theory onto the organisation, and writing practice answers on it. This is work that can only be done in a defined window and it is the clearest advantage the subject offers.

  • The case read closely rather than summarised
  • Industry and competitor context researched around it
  • Theory from all five units mapped onto the organisation
  • Practice answers written on the actual case and marked

Research project support

A block across DP1 and DP2 covering organisation access, the business issue, research method, the supporting documents and the structure of the write-up. The student secures the access, gathers the data and writes every word; the tutor advises on method and responds to drafts.

  • A real business issue framed as an answerable question
  • Primary and secondary research planned before collection
  • Supporting documents chosen for what they actually evidence
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a supplied draft

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ras Al Khaimah

01

The pre-released case study, and how it reorganises the revision calendar

  • The organisation and its situation are known before the exam
  • Industry and competitor context must be researched, not waited for
  • Theory from all five units mapped onto the one organisation
  • Practice answers written on the real case, marked, before the mock term

Paper 1 in Business Management is set on a case study published before the examination session. The organisation, its context and its situation are known in advance. The questions are not, but the material they will be asked about is. Nothing else in a Diploma timetable works this way, and the practical consequence is that a meaningful part of Paper 1 preparation can be completed weeks before any other subject's revision has begun.

Doing it properly has four parts. Reading the case closely enough to know the organisation's structure, market, constraints and stated problems. Researching around it, which means the industry, the competitors and the external environment, so the student can bring context the case does not supply. Mapping the course onto it deliberately, asking which theory from each of the five units could be examined through this organisation. And writing practice answers on the case itself rather than on textbook examples.

Students rarely do any of this unprompted, and in a small cohort it is also the task most likely to be set as independent reading. That makes it the highest-value thing an outside tutor can add, because it is defined, time-boxed and entirely within the student's control. A student who has already written six marked answers on the pre-released case is in a different position from one who has read it twice. The window matters too: this work belongs in the weeks after release and before the mock season absorbs everything, and a plan that does not name those weeks will miss them.

02

Five units and four concepts, with the Higher Level extensions named

The course is built from five units and four concepts. The units are an introduction to business management, human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing, and operations management. The concepts are creativity, change, ethics and sustainability, and they are not a framing device: examination questions are written against them, and an answer that ignores the concept a question raises has missed part of what was asked.

Higher Level extends every unit rather than adding a separate one, which is efficient to teach and hard for a parent to audit. Alongside the unit extensions there is a set of Higher Level-only tools in the business management toolkit, including force field analysis, gap analysis, Hofstede's cultural dimensions, critical path analysis, simple linear regression and contribution analysis. These are the parts most likely to be compressed when a small group shares lessons with a Standard Level set.

Finance and accounts is the unit that causes most difficulty, and the reason is that it is arithmetic wearing business clothing. Break-even, contribution, cash flow forecasts, final accounts, profitability and liquidity ratios, and at Higher Level investment appraisal, all require a student to compute reliably and then interpret what the number means. Students who were told Business Management is a non-mathematical subject arrive unprepared for it, and the repair is mechanical practice rather than further reading. The toolkit is the other thing worth auditing early. Tools such as SWOT, Ansoff, STEEPLE, the Boston matrix and decision trees are expected to be used on a specific organisation rather than described in the abstract, and a student who can name all of them and apply none will lose marks consistently across both papers.

03

Three components, and what each one actually rewards

Business Management is assessed by two written papers and a research project. Paper 1, built on the pre-released case study, carries 35% of the grade. Paper 2, a data-response paper on unseen stimulus material including quantitative items, carries 40%. The research project carries the remaining 25%. The weightings are the same at both levels; what differs is the length and depth of the papers and the Higher Level content inside them.

Each component rewards a different behaviour. Paper 1 rewards preparation, because the case is known in advance, and rewards recommendations that fit the specific organisation rather than generic good practice. Paper 2 rewards speed and accuracy on unseen material: reading a stimulus quickly, extracting what matters, performing the calculations correctly and reaching a judgement. The research project rewards method and access, and it is decided long before the writing by whether a real organisation and real data were available.

A parent should ask for the mock breakdown by component. If the loss is on Paper 1, the question is whether the case study was actually worked. If it is on Paper 2, the question is usually calculation speed or the judgement band. If it is on the project, the question is almost always access and data rather than writing quality. Three different diagnoses, three different plans, and a single overall grade tells you none of them. It is also worth knowing that the weightings do not change between the levels. Paper 1 is 35%, Paper 2 is 40% and the project is 25% at both Higher and Standard Level, so the difference between the two courses is content and paper length rather than a rebalancing of the components. A plan built for one level transfers more cleanly here than in subjects where an extra paper appears.

04

The research project, stage by stage, and where it goes wrong

The research project is a report on a real business issue or problem facing one organisation, capped at 1,800 words and supported by a small set of documents the student has selected. It is worth a quarter of the grade. Almost everything that determines its mark is decided in the first three weeks, when the organisation, the issue and the research method are chosen, and almost nothing can be repaired in the last three.

Access is the first failure point. A student who chooses a large multinational because it is interesting will find no route to primary data and no permission to use internal material, and the project becomes a secondary-source essay with weak evidence. A student who chooses a smaller local organisation, often through a family or community connection, can interview a manager, see real figures and write something genuinely evidenced. In this emirate those connections are more available than in a larger city, which is a real advantage.

The second failure point is the issue itself. 'How can this company improve marketing?' is not an answerable question; it has no boundary and no decision in it. 'Should this company open a second outlet in Al Nakheel?' has both, and the course theory maps onto it directly through investment appraisal, break-even and market research. The third failure point is the supporting documents, which students treat as an appendix to be assembled at the end rather than as the evidence base chosen at the start. The table sets out the stages with the risk attached to each.

RESEARCH PROJECT STAGES, THE RISK AT EACH AND WHEN IT SHOULD BE SETTLED
StageWhat has to existThe risk if it is rushedWhen it should be settled
Choosing the organisationA real organisation the student can actually reach and ask questions ofNo primary data, so the report rests on weak secondary sourcesEarly in DP1, before any topic is written down
Framing the business issueA decision-shaped question with a boundary, not a general improvement themeAn unanswerable question that cannot be concluded onWithin two weeks of choosing the organisation
Research methodPrimary and secondary research planned, with permission where neededData gathered that does not address the question askedBefore any interview or data request is made
Supporting documentsA small set of documents selected because they evidence the argumentAn appendix assembled at the end that evidences nothing in particularChosen alongside the method, not after the draft
Analysis with course toolsThe relevant tools applied, with the numbers computed correctlyTools described rather than used, which caps the analysis marksAs the data arrives, not in the final fortnight
Writing and cutting to 1,800 wordsA structured report with a conclusion that answers the questionCutting the conclusion because it sits at the end of the draftFinal two weeks, from material already complete
05

Why a student who knows the theory still scores in the middle band

  • Knowledge, application and judgement are marked at different levels
  • Naming the organisation is not the same as applying theory to it
  • A balanced list with no conclusion stays in the middle band
  • Judgement has a structure and can be drilled in a few sessions

Business Management mark schemes separate knowledge from application and from judgement, and they reward them at different levels. A student who defines a concept accurately earns the knowledge marks. To move up, the answer has to say what that concept means for the specific organisation in front of them, using details from the case or stimulus. To reach the top band, it has to reach a judgement: a recommendation or conclusion that follows from the analysis and acknowledges what it depends on.

The usual script looks like this. The student explains the theory well, mentions the organisation's name twice, lists two advantages and two disadvantages, and finishes with a sentence saying it depends on circumstances. That is a middle-band answer and it will stay middle-band however much more content the student learns. The constraint is structural, not informational, which is why re-teaching units does not move the grade and why a few sessions on answer architecture often does.

Judgement is teachable as a structure. State what the analysis implies. Identify the condition it rests on, usually a constraint in the case: cash position, capacity, labour market, regulation, time. Say what would change the conclusion. Then commit to a recommendation with a reason. Students resist committing because it feels risky, and the mark scheme rewards exactly that commitment when it is supported. Practising it on the pre-released case study is the cheapest way to build it, because the organisation is already familiar.

06

The quantitative tools a Business Management student has to use quickly

This is the part of the course that surprises families who chose it as a non-mathematical option. The arithmetic is not difficult, but it has to be fast and reliable, because Paper 2 presents unseen figures under time pressure and a student who is slow on contribution or on a current ratio loses minutes they need for the written parts. Accuracy matters doubly: a wrong number carried into an interpretation produces a wrong judgement, and both sets of marks go.

The second half of each tool is interpretation, which students practise even less than the calculation. A gearing ratio is a number; what it tells you about a firm's risk position and what follows for a financing decision is the mark. A break-even point is a number; what it implies about the viability of a pricing change is the mark. Teaching calculation and interpretation together, in the same question, is the only efficient way to do it, because splitting them is how students end up able to compute and unable to conclude.

The Higher Level additions deserve separate time. Investment appraisal, including payback, average rate of return and net present value, requires a student to handle discounting and to compare projects on more than one measure. Critical path analysis has its own notation and its own marks for correct network drawing. Simple linear regression needs a calculator technique as well as an interpretation. None of these appears at Standard Level, and in a shared classroom they are the first thing to be compressed.

07

A two-year timeline with the case-study release in it

UAE schools sit the May session, and the exact session dates belong to the IB and should be confirmed with your child's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org rather than taken from a tutoring page. What makes Business Management's timeline distinctive is that it has an extra fixed point nobody else has: the publication of the Paper 1 case study, which creates a defined window of preparation that closes once the mock season starts.

The research project is the other fixed point, and it is set internally by the school. The two interact badly if nothing is planned: a student doing project fieldwork in the same weeks the case study should be being worked will do one of them poorly. Sequencing them is a planning decision that takes twenty minutes and saves a term, and it is the first thing a tutor should ask about rather than the last.

The table below places both against the ordinary rhythm of a Diploma. Its use is to find the current window and check whether the previous one was actually completed. Where it was not, that is what the first month of support is for, whatever topic the class happens to be on. The summer between DP1 and DP2 is the row families overlook most, and in this subject it is the natural window for securing organisation access for the project, which is the single thing most likely to go wrong later. One caution about the final row. Revisiting the case study in the last weeks is worthwhile only if the real work on it was done in its own window; rereading it in the final fortnight is not preparation, it is reassurance. The marks come from the research and the practice answers, and both have to happen while there is still time to mark them.

What tutoring costs here, and the per-hour versus per-session trap

Before the numbers, the unit of pricing, because it is where families are most often caught out. A rate can be quoted per hour, per session of unstated length, per month as a package, or per block of sessions. A monthly package of eight sessions at AED 799 is about AED 100 a session, which looks very different from an hourly rate until you ask how long a session is. Published in-home monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions work out at roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour, which places them inside the in-home hourly band rather than below it. Always convert to an hourly figure before comparing anything.

With that done, the published UAE market bands read in October 2026 are these. Budget online tutoring runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online runs about AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An IB specialist runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. The market's premium tier reaches AED 650 an hour, published by BartyED. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour are AED 240 to 600, AED 600 to 1,200 and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more by tier.

Three other questions are worth asking of any quote in this market. Whether the figure is in dirhams or converted from another currency, since two of the competitors researched quote in US dollars. Whether a cancelled session is rescheduled or forfeited. And whether marking of written work is inside the hour or expected to happen unpaid between sessions, which for a subject assessed almost entirely through extended writing is not a trivial detail. IB Gram's own position is a free first lesson and a plan agreed afterwards, rather than a rate card for a problem neither side has diagnosed.

Academic honesty on the project, and the authorities behind the schooling

The research project is assessed as the student's own work. A tutor may teach the course content, explain what each assessment criterion rewards, advise on whether a business issue is answerable, discuss research method and permissions, check that the chosen tools suit the data, and respond to a draft the student has written. A tutor supplies no text, no analysis, no calculations and no supporting documents that appear in the submission. Research into this market found at least one operator selling completed Internal Assessments outright; a student who submits purchased work carries the malpractice finding and the penalty, and that penalty can be the whole Diploma.

There is a second honesty point specific to this subject. A project built on a real organisation may involve information the organisation considers confidential, and interviewing a manager creates an obligation about how their words are used. Getting explicit permission, anonymising where asked, and saying in the report what was and was not disclosed is both good practice and good assessment practice, because the evaluation of sources is part of what is marked. A student who writes that a figure could not be obtained, and explains the consequence, is doing better work than one who invents a plausible number.

On the institutional side, two separate authorities apply and they are frequently conflated. Private schools in Ras Al Khaimah are regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which according to u.ae regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Individual private tutors are a different matter: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ministry of Education equivalency for university entry is a third process, run by the ministry, and no tutor performs or guarantees it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

A Business Management session needs an uninterrupted hour, because most of the work involves writing or reading a case. These are the Ras Al Khaimah communities families book from.

Al Nakheel

The central district near the creek and the older campuses, close to the commercial side of the city. Short journeys home make an early weekday slot practical, and students here often have the easiest access to local organisations for project research.

Al Hamra Village

Gated housing in the south beside the RAK Academy campuses, with hospitality and real estate operations on the doorstep. Weekend morning sessions work well here for case study work, which benefits from a longer uninterrupted block.

Mina Al Arab

Waterfront communities including Hayat Island. Pickup traffic through Al Qusaidat makes later fixed starts more reliable than early ones, which matters when a session involves marking extended writing.

Al Marjan Island

The emirate's resort and leisure development area. Students here have direct sight of a hospitality and construction economy, which is genuinely useful project material, and a single access road that argues against anyone driving to a lesson.

Khuzam

Served by a RAK Academy campus with a steady Diploma intake. Sessions around 4.45pm are standard, and Ramadan timings shift to post-Iftar across the community together rather than household by household.

Al Dhait North and South

Inland villa districts where siblings frequently attend different campuses. Staggered slots an hour apart are normal and simple to hold over video, where a visiting tutor would have to make two journeys.

Al Qusaidat and Julphar

Older city neighbourhoods near the industrial and port areas. Family connections to manufacturing, shipping and trade are common here, which gives a research project a realistic route to a real organisation and real data.

Seih Al Uraibi and Al Mamourah

Established districts near the ring road with a mix of commercial activity. Parents here often arrive having used a general tutor and now asking whether a tutor can mark an answer against the actual assessment criteria.

Digdaga and the inland belt

The agricultural and low-density inland area, with genuine primary-sector businesses. For a student researching operations, supply chains or seasonality, the material is local rather than borrowed from a textbook case.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ras Al Khaimah

Southern and Al Hamra campuses

Where most Ras Al Khaimah Diploma students take Business Management. Groups are small and often share a teacher with Economics, which means the Higher Level extensions and the pre-released case study get less dedicated time than they warrant.

  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam
  • RAK English Speaking School

City-side campuses

British and Indian curriculum schools serving Al Nakheel, Al Qusaidat and Julphar. Students joining Diploma Business Management from these campuses usually meet break-even, contribution and ratio arithmetic for the first time in DP1.

  • The Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School Ras Al Khaimah

Where Business Management students here go next

Regional destinations for business, management, finance, logistics and hospitality degrees. Several accept Business Management directly; a few ask for Economics or a named mathematics course alongside it, which is worth checking in DP1.

  • American University of Ras Al Khaimah
  • University of Stirling RAK
  • Ajman University
  • American University of Sharjah
  • University of Sharjah

Schools, universities and organisations named here are local context for Ras Al Khaimah families; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them and claims no endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which component is losing marks

Paper 1, Paper 2 and the research project fail for different reasons: an unworked case study, slow calculation and weak judgement, or no organisation access. Naming the component tells a tutor what the first session should be and avoids a fortnight of diagnosis.

  2. 02

Free first lesson on that component

The opening session costs nothing and runs on something real: a marked answer, a quantitative question, or the project's current state. You see how the teaching works and how the criteria are applied before anything is agreed.

  3. 03

A plan with both fixed dates in it

The written plan names the school's project deadline and the window after the case study is published, and sequences them so neither is done badly. That sequencing is twenty minutes of planning that regularly saves a term of repair work.

  4. 04

Fixed weekly slots on Gulf Standard Time

Sessions sit at the same time each week, set around pickup reality in your community, with the same tutor throughout. Longer weekend slots are available for case study work, and Ramadan timings move to post-Iftar for the whole month.

  5. 05

    Monthly review against marked answers

Progress is judged on marked extended writing and timed quantitative work, not on how the sessions felt. If answers are still landing in the middle band, the plan shifts to answer architecture rather than to more content.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The pre-released case worked, not skimmed

Paper 1 is set on a case study published before the exam, which is an advantage no other Diploma subject offers. It gets a defined block: the case read closely, the industry researched, theory mapped onto the organisation, and practice answers written and marked.

Judgement taught as a structure

Mark schemes separate knowledge, application and judgement. A balanced list with no conclusion stays mid-band however much content the student knows, and the fix is answer architecture: what the analysis implies, what it rests on, and a supported recommendation.

Finance treated as arithmetic

Break-even, contribution, cash flow, ratios and, at Higher Level, investment appraisal and critical path analysis have to be fast and accurate under time pressure. They are drilled as computation and interpretation in the same question rather than separately.

Project access settled early

The research project is decided by whether a student can reach a real organisation and real data, which in this emirate is often possible through a local connection. That access is secured in DP1 or the summer, not in the term the report is due.

Prices converted before they are compared

Rates in this market are quoted per hour, per session, per month and per block. Every figure on this page is converted to an hourly equivalent with its published source named, so a monthly package can be compared with an hourly rate honestly.

A stated line on coursework

Support is teaching, method advice and feedback on the student's own draft. No text, calculations, analysis or supporting documents are supplied for submission, and confidentiality obligations to a researched organisation are treated as part of the work.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

Is it true that part of the Business Management exam is published before the exam?+

Yes. Paper 1 is set on a case study released ahead of the examination session, so the organisation, its context and its situation are known in advance even though the questions are not. No other subject in a typical Diploma timetable works this way. Used properly it means reading the case closely, researching the industry and competitors around it, mapping theory from all five units onto the organisation, and writing practice answers on the real case. Students who do that arrive at Paper 1 in a materially different position from those who read it twice.

When should the pre-released case study work actually be done?+

In the weeks after it is published and before the mock exam season absorbs everything. That window is short and it closes: once mocks in six subjects are running, nobody has time to research an industry properly. A workable target is six marked practice answers on the actual case before mocks begin, plus a written map of which theory from each unit could be examined through that organisation. In a small cohort this task is often set as independent reading, which is exactly why it is the thing most likely to be left undone.

Why does my daughter know the theory and still score 4s in Business Management?+

Because the mark schemes separate knowledge, application and judgement, and reward them at different levels. Defining a concept accurately earns the knowledge marks. Saying what it means for the specific organisation in the stimulus, using details from it, earns application. Reaching a supported recommendation that acknowledges what it depends on earns judgement. The standard mid-band answer explains the theory, names the firm twice, lists two advantages and two disadvantages and concludes that it depends. More content will not move that; answer architecture will, usually in a handful of sessions.

How much mathematics is really in the Business Management course?+

More than families expect when they choose it as a non-mathematical option. Both levels cover break-even and margin of safety, cash flow forecasts, final accounts, and profitability and liquidity ratios. Higher Level adds investment appraisal with payback, average rate of return and net present value, critical path analysis, simple linear regression and contribution analysis. The arithmetic is not hard, but it has to be quick and accurate because Paper 2 presents unseen figures under time pressure, and every calculation carries an interpretation mark that depends on getting the number right.

What makes a good research project topic, and what makes an unworkable one?+

A workable topic names a real organisation the student can actually reach and asks a decision-shaped question with a boundary, such as whether to open a second outlet in a named location. An unworkable one picks a large multinational with no route to primary data, or asks how a company could improve its marketing, which has no boundary and nothing to conclude. The report is capped at 1,800 words and carries 25% of the grade, and almost everything that decides the mark is settled in the first three weeks rather than the last three.

Can my son use a family business for the research project?+

Often yes, and in this emirate it is frequently the most practical route to real data, which is a genuine advantage over students in larger cities. Two conditions matter. The organisation must have a real business issue worth analysing rather than being chosen purely for convenience, because a thin issue caps the analysis marks. And the confidentiality side has to be handled properly: explicit permission for what is used, anonymising where asked, and a clear statement in the report of what could not be disclosed. Explaining a gap honestly scores better than inventing a plausible figure.

How do the four concepts actually affect answers in this subject?+

Creativity, change, ethics and sustainability are not a framing device; examination questions are written against them, and an answer that ignores the concept a question raises has left part of the task undone. A question about a restructuring that treats it purely as a cost exercise, with nothing on how change affects the people in the structure, is incomplete. The practical habit is to read a question twice, once for the unit content and once for the concept, and to make sure the answer addresses both rather than only the familiar one.

What does Higher Level add to Business Management compared with Standard Level?+

Depth in every unit rather than a separate unit, plus a set of Higher Level-only toolkit tools: force field analysis, gap analysis, Hofstede's cultural dimensions, critical path analysis, simple linear regression and contribution analysis. Higher Level runs to 240 teaching hours against 150, and the papers are longer. The weightings are the same at both levels, at 35% for Paper 1, 40% for Paper 2 and 25% for the research project. Because the additions sit inside existing units, they are the first thing compressed when a small group shares lessons with a Standard Level set.

Is there a Business Management specialist available in Ras Al Khaimah for private work?+

Rarely. Diploma groups here are small, and the teacher carrying Business Management frequently carries Economics as well, which is a sensible use of a small timetable and leaves no spare capacity for private teaching. Matching a specialist over live video on Gulf Standard Time makes subject depth the selection criterion rather than who lives within driving distance. For this subject that matters most on the pre-released case study and the Higher Level quantitative tools, the two things a shared classroom is least likely to cover separately.

Should I compare tutoring prices per hour or per session?+

Per hour, always, after converting. Rates in this market are quoted per hour, per session of unstated length, per month and per block, which makes headline figures hard to compare. A published monthly plan of AED 799 for eight online sessions is roughly AED 100 a session, and published in-home plans of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions work out at about AED 200 to 225 an hour, which sits inside the in-home band rather than below it. Ask the session length first, then convert, then compare.

What should I ask before agreeing a tutoring rate in the UAE?+

Four things. Whether the figure is quoted in dirhams or converted from another currency, since two of the competitors researched publish in US dollars. What the session length actually is, so a monthly package can be compared honestly. Whether a cancelled session is rescheduled or forfeited. And whether marking written work sits inside the paid hour, which matters a great deal in a subject assessed almost entirely through extended writing. A provider unwilling to state a figure before a call is telling you something useful.

How late is too late to start Business Management support in DP2?+

It depends which component is failing. Judgement structure can be built in a few sessions and will lift marks across both papers, and quantitative speed responds quickly to drilling, so a late start is often worth making. What a late start cannot do is work the pre-released case study after the exam, or improve a research project that has already been submitted. An honest late plan names the marks still reachable, which are usually the answer-architecture and calculation marks, and leaves out the ones that are not.

Does Business Management count for business and finance degrees?+

Widely yes, and some programmes prefer or require Economics or a named mathematics course alongside it, which is the thing to check rather than assume. Business, management, logistics, hospitality and marketing routes commonly accept it directly. More quantitative finance and economics degrees sometimes specify a mathematics course at a stated level. Read the published entry requirement for each of the three or four programmes your child is actually considering, in the current admissions cycle, since requirements differ between courses inside one institution and are revised between cycles.

Can sessions work around Ramadan and the summer break for this subject?+

Yes, and the summer is unusually valuable here. During Ramadan most families in this emirate move the weekly slot to after Iftar for the whole month rather than renegotiating weekly. The summer between DP1 and DP2 is the only stretch with no competing deadline, and in Business Management it is the natural window for securing organisation access and permissions for the research project, which is the single thing most likely to go wrong later. A fixed video slot also survives family travel, which many households here do over those weeks.

Does a tutor working with a family in this emirate need a MoHRE permit?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, so it is a fair question to ask. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. MoHRE's private tutor licensing service is the official route.

Name the component and take the free first lesson

Business Management has three assessed components and they fail for different reasons: a case study that was never worked, calculations that are too slow and answers that never reach a judgement, or a research project with no access to a real organisation. Say which one applies, send the exam session and the current grade, and the first lesson is free, worked on something real with a Business Management specialist, live online on Gulf Standard Time. The plan that follows names your school's project deadline and the case-study window, and sequences them so neither gets done badly.
