Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

A Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor in Ras Al Khaimah spends less time on concepts than parents expect and more on wording. 0610 is twenty-one topics assessed across three components, and the marks that separate a B from an A* are almost always definition marks, process-sequence marks and the practical paper nobody revised. This page covers the syllabus shape, what the emirate's own school provision looks like, and what a parent can verify for themselves. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

0610 is a precision exam before it is a science exam

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 covers twenty-one topic areas, from characteristics and classification of living organisms through to biotechnology and genetic modification, and assesses them across three components: a multiple-choice paper worth 30 per cent, a theory paper worth 50 per cent, and either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper worth 20 per cent. Core candidates are graded C to G and Extended candidates A* to E. Confirm the exact paper numbers, durations and mark totals for your child's series against the syllabus document on the Cambridge International site, since assessment detail is revised from time to time.

The reason 0610 behaves differently from chemistry or physics is that very little of it is calculation. Almost all of it is explanation, and explanation is marked on wording. A student who writes that osmosis is water moving from high concentration to low concentration has described something real and has not met the mark scheme, which expects water moving down a water potential gradient through a partially permeable membrane. Across a theory paper that distinction appears twenty times, and it is the difference between a competent script and a strong one.

This is why biology produces more frustrated parents than the other two sciences. The child clearly understands the material, can explain it out loud convincingly, revises diligently, and comes home with a B. Nothing is wrong with their understanding. What is missing is the habit of answering in the examination's language: naming the structure, stating the process, giving the direction of movement, and including the word the scheme is looking for. That habit is taught by marking, repeatedly, and almost never by reading a revision guide.

Ras Al Khaimah adds a specific supply problem to that teaching need. The emirate's private-school set is compact and clustered around Al Nakheel, Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab, and the u.ae private-schools page states that the Department of Knowledge regulates private education here, approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Biology sets are small as a result, and the number of people within driving distance who have marked 0610 scripts against the published scheme is smaller still. A family searching inside the emirate is choosing from a handful of names; a family searching for someone who has marked the papers is choosing from a national pool.

What a parent can check for themselves is the subject of a whole section further down, because almost nothing in this market is verifiable and a few things genuinely are. Published market rates, for instance: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52; Unitors publishes AED 150 as its IGCSE starting rate; TutorChase quotes AED 270; Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts examined-subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above and in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350. Those figures are on the providers' own pages and in that survey, and anyone can open them. IB Gram delivers 0610 as one-to-one tuition over live video and does not visit homes anywhere in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Biology is the science most often taken by students heading for medicine, dentistry, veterinary science or biomedical routes, and those destinations set real requirements. In Ras Al Khaimah the local post-16 provision is narrow enough that the route should be identified before Year 11 rather than after results.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

Two years, two tiers and three assessed components. The content volume is the largest of the three sciences and the conceptual difficulty is the lowest, which produces a characteristic failure pattern: students who understand everything and have never been made to write it in the scheme's wording. The practical component is worth a fifth of the grade and is the part most commonly left unrevised.

RAK schools generally teach biology in a single set per year group, so the breadth of the twenty-one topics is covered at one pace for one cohort. A student who misses the transport topics in Year 10 does not meet them again in class, because there is no second set running the material later in the year.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Biology (9700)

Requires Extended 0610 in practice and a strong grade at most centres. It deepens cell biology, immunity, gene expression and ecology substantially, and the practical assessment carries more weight and more technique than at IGCSE. The precision demand rises rather than relaxes: a student who reached a good IGCSE grade on approximate wording finds AS marking considerably less forgiving.

Sixth-form science provision in the northern emirates sits in a small number of schools, so continuing often means an application beyond Ras Al Khaimah. The Year 11 predicted grade therefore does admissions work as well as qualification work, which argues for building marked evidence during the autumn term.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Biology

Taken at SL or HL with examination papers plus an internal assessment: an individual scientific investigation the student designs, carries out and writes up against published criteria. Extended 0610 content maps onto it well. The investigation does not resemble anything at IGCSE, and the marks sit heavily in research question framing, methodology and evaluation rather than in the biology itself.

Diploma provision in this emirate is limited, so students taking this route usually change school at 16. Where we support a Diploma investigation, the design, the data and the writing remain the student's own throughout; a tutor teaches, reviews and comments, and will not produce any part of assessed work.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

The route where biology is examined together with chemistry and physics rather than separately. Coverage per subject is narrower and the grade reflects performance across all three. It suits students who need science breadth without three separate terminal science examinations inside one series, which is a real timetable consideration in Year 11.

Several northern-emirate schools place part of the cohort on a combined-science route, and the first question any tutor should ask is which qualification the school has actually entered the student for. A combined-science candidate needs a different revision sequence from a 0610 candidate, and confusing the two wastes weeks.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Biology shares its assessment shape with the other two sciences and competes with them for the same revision evenings. These notes set out what each neighbouring subject assesses and where the overlap with 0610 helps or hurts.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

This page's subject. Twenty-one topics across three components. Marks are lost to imprecise definitions, incomplete process sequences and an unrevised practical paper rather than to genuine conceptual gaps.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

The same three-component shape with a far higher calculation load. Moles, electrolysis and organic chemistry account for most of its lost marks, so it competes for different revision time than biology does.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

The most algebraic of the three sciences, with a practical or alternative paper worth a fifth of the grade. Students weak in rearranging formulae lose physics marks for reasons that have nothing to do with physics.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

Two equally weighted papers per tier, one without a calculator. Biology needs less of it than the other sciences, but percentage change, magnification and ratio reasoning all appear and all cost marks when shaky.

Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

Core and Extended

The route where all three sciences are examined together. Confirm which qualification the school has entered before any plan is written, because the revision sequence differs substantially from a 0610 candidate's.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

The subject with the largest hidden effect on a biology grade. 0610 is marked on precision of wording, so a student working in a second language can hold the understanding and still miss the scheme's required terms.

Geography (0460)

Single tier, Cambridge IGCSE

Overlaps genuinely with 0610's ecology and human-influences topics: nutrient cycles, deforestation, pollution and population pressure appear in both, assessed in different formats.

Food and Nutrition

Cambridge IGCSE

Shares 0610's human-nutrition content, including the balanced diet, deficiency conditions and digestion. Where a school offers it, students taking both find a genuine overlap in one topic area.

Physical Education

Cambridge IGCSE

Overlaps with the respiration, gas exchange and circulation topics in 0610, often with the same diagrams. The assessment model is different, but the content reinforcement is real.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns suit 0610, and the choice depends on whether the problem is coverage, precision or the practical paper. All run one-to-one over live video with a shared screen for diagrams and results tables, and each starts with a free trial lesson.

Precision block, five to six sessions

For the student whose understanding is sound and whose marks are not. Every session takes past theory questions and rewrites the student's answers into the scheme's wording, with the required terms identified explicitly. The point is not new biology; it is a habit of answering that holds under time pressure across twenty-one topics.

  • Past theory questions only, never textbook exercises
  • Answers rewritten by the student, then marked line by line
  • A self-built glossary of the terms the scheme actually requires
  • A short timed set at the end of every session

Topic coverage plan, weekly through Year 10 and 11

Built for the volume problem rather than the precision problem. Twenty-one topics is a lot to hold, and a single school set covers them once at one pace. Weekly sessions follow the school's sequence, consolidate each topic while it is fresh, and record the practical work as the lab lessons happen rather than reconstructing it a year later.

  • One session a week following the school's own topic order
  • Each topic tested with past questions before moving on
  • Practical technique captured while the lab work is recent
  • Termly written review across all three assessed components

Practical and alternative-paper block, three sessions

A short block aimed squarely at the component worth a fifth of the grade and revised by almost nobody. It covers describing method, identifying variables, naming specific sources of error, recording results with units and precision, and drawing conclusions the data actually supports.

  • Three sessions with a stated finish date
  • Built on past practical and alternative-paper questions
  • Results tables and graph conventions drilled explicitly
  • No apparatus required for the alternative-paper route

01

The twenty-one topics and how they land across the three components

Biology's difficulty is breadth. Twenty-one topic areas is roughly double what students expect from a single subject, and they are not equally examined or equally forgiving. The classification, organisation and movement-into-cells topics at the start of the syllabus are heavily definition-based and appear reliably in the multiple-choice paper. The transport, coordination and inheritance topics in the middle generate the longest theory questions and the most process-sequence marks. The ecology and biotechnology topics at the end are frequently taught last, revised least, and worth a real share of the paper.

The three components reward different things. The multiple-choice paper rewards precise recall and punishes approximate knowledge quietly: a student who half-remembers a definition will choose a plausible distractor without noticing. The theory paper rewards explanation in the scheme's language, which is where most recoverable marks sit. The practical component rewards technique — method, variables, error, recording, interpretation — and is worth a fifth of the grade on its own.

What follows from that is a revision order most students do not use. Rather than working through twenty-one topics in syllabus sequence, the useful approach is to find out from a marked paper which topics are costing marks and in which component, then repair those. A student losing marks in the multiple-choice paper on the early topics has a recall problem that short daily drilling fixes. A student losing theory marks across the middle topics has a wording problem that only marking fixes. Those are different jobs and a single generic revision plan addresses neither.

The table below maps the topic blocks to the component where they most often cost marks, and to the type of work that recovers them. It is a planning tool rather than a syllabus listing, and it is built on what marked scripts repeatedly show rather than on how the contents page is ordered.

Definition marks: why strong students stop one word short

This is the specific mechanism behind most disappointing 0610 grades and it is worth setting out precisely, because once a parent can see it they can check for it themselves. Mark schemes for biology explanation questions award marks for named components of an answer. A two-mark definition typically needs two things: what the thing is, and the condition or qualifier that makes it that thing rather than something adjacent. Students reliably supply the first and omit the second, which scores one mark out of two and reads, to a parent, like a correct answer.

Take three familiar examples. Diffusion described as movement from high to low concentration misses the net movement of particles down a concentration gradient. Active transport described as movement against a gradient misses that it uses energy from respiration and proteins in the cell membrane. Transpiration described as water loss from leaves misses evaporation and diffusion of water vapour from within the plant to the atmosphere. In each case the student knows the biology. In each case half the marks have gone.

The repair is a drill and not a concept. The student builds their own glossary from past mark schemes rather than from a revision guide, writes each definition from memory, and has it marked against the scheme's wording until the required terms appear automatically. Thirty to forty definitions covers most of the recurring single-mark losses in the subject. It is unglamorous work, it takes about five sessions with daily practice between them, and it moves more marks per hour invested than any content teaching in the syllabus.

Process sequences are the same problem at greater length. A question asking how a nerve impulse produces a response, or how the body regulates blood glucose, expects the stages in order with the named structures and the direction of each step. Students write a paragraph that contains most of the stages in roughly the right order and lose the sequencing marks. Writing these as numbered steps, then being marked on them, is the entire fix.

Which boards and which schools: biology provision in this emirate

Ras Al Khaimah regulates its own private education. The u.ae private-schools page states that the emirate's Department of Knowledge regulates private education, and that Ras Al Khaimah's authority, like Sharjah's, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Curriculum approval sitting with the emirate regulator rather than with a federal body is the reason a school's subject offer is not purely a commercial decision, and it is worth knowing before asking a school why it does not run a second science set.

What that means for biology specifically is set-size. The emirate's school population is small, the schools are concentrated near Al Nakheel and Khuzam with southern provision at Al Hamra, and separate sciences are typically taught in a single set per year group. One teacher therefore carries the full twenty-one topics for the whole cohort, at one pace, with one lab schedule. That is a perfectly workable model for a school and it has two consequences for an individual student: a topic missed is not revisited, and individual marking of long explanation answers is limited by arithmetic rather than by willingness.

The board matters too, and families should establish it in writing before buying any help. Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology are different qualifications with different papers, different practical arrangements and different mark-scheme conventions, and past papers are not interchangeable in practice. Ask the exams officer for the board and the syllabus code. A tutor drilling the wrong board's wording conventions will actively cost marks, which is a worse outcome than no tutoring at all.

The table sets out the local picture as a planning aid: who regulates, what is typically offered, and what a parent should ask. It is deliberately a question list rather than a claim list, because school-level provision changes and the authoritative answer always comes from the school.

Extended-only biology: the content that separates A* from B

Both tiers cover the same twenty-one topic areas, and the Extended tier adds supplement content within them. That structure confuses families, because it means Extended is not a separate syllabus with separate topics but the same topics carried further. A student can therefore feel entirely familiar with a topic and still be unprepared for the Extended questions on it, which is a more insidious problem than simply not having covered something.

The supplement material concentrates in identifiable places. Movement into and out of cells gains water potential terminology and more demanding osmosis explanation. Transport in animals gains more detailed heart and vessel structure. Coordination and response gains fuller treatment of hormonal control and homeostasis. Inheritance gains more complex genetic crosses and the molecular basis of variation. Biotechnology and genetic modification gains considerably more process detail. Those five areas are where a B becomes an A, and they are also where a single school set is most likely to compress coverage under time pressure.

For a student aiming at Extended, the practical implication is to treat those areas as named targets rather than as parts of topics already covered. The table gives working session estimates, which assume the Core content underneath is secure and the student does the between-session work. They are estimates and not promises; nobody can attach a grade to a number of hours, and a provider who does should be read sceptically. What can be said is that these five areas are where additional hours produce the most movement at the top of the scale.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies beside a triple-science timetable

A Year 11 student taking three separate sciences in Ras Al Khaimah has a fuller week than the option block suggests, and the reason is not the international curriculum. Private schools in the UAE teach Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies alongside whichever curriculum they are licensed for. The federal position is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. These are timetabled lessons with their own assessment, not enrichment slots that can be traded away.

KHDA's published mandatory-subjects guidance, which describes Dubai's arrangements, is the clearest public account of how this works in practice, and it is useful for understanding the model even though it is not the Ras Al Khaimah regulator's document. It calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided total weekly time is met, and advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. It requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, and it prohibits using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission.

The arithmetic consequence for a biology plan is straightforward. Three sciences, mathematics, English, the mandatory subjects and one or two options leave fewer free evenings than a parent assumes, and in Ras Al Khaimah the free ones start late because of the drives. Twenty-one biology topics cannot be covered in whatever time is left over after everything else; the time has to be allocated first. In practice that means one fixed weekly session, protected, with the definition drilling happening in short daily bursts rather than in long weekend blocks that collide with the other two sciences.

Sessions, retakes and the published timetables worth planning against

Exam sessions are the part of this subject where families most often act on rumour, so here are the sourced facts. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and it says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Get the zone and the timetable from your school's exams officer in writing.

Where a school uses Pearson Edexcel instead, the published pattern is also concrete. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each June and November series, usually a year or more out, which is why a plan should link the live official timetable rather than restate dates that can be revised before the statement of entry ever arrives.

Those dates matter for retakes more than for first entries. A student disappointed in a summer series and considering a November retake is working with a short window: results arrive in August, the November timetable runs to mid-November, and the entry has to be made through a centre. The decision therefore has to be taken within days of results rather than contemplated over a month. In a small emirate the additional constraint is whether a local centre enters that series at all, which is a question for the school and not for a tutoring platform.

One scheduling note specific to Ras Al Khaimah. The long revision run-up to a June series can overlap Ramadan, when school days shorten and household routines move into the evening, and the same is true of the early entry work for a November series when Ramadan falls in the first weeks of the academic year. The approach that holds up is to complete the heavy timed-paper work in the weeks before, and to use the Ramadan weeks for shorter definition drilling and correction review, which suits this subject well because biology revision breaks into small pieces more naturally than chemistry or physics does.

What a parent can actually verify before paying anybody

Very little in this market is checkable, which is precisely why the checkable things are worth using. Start with the rates, because they are published and anyone can open them. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Unitors publishes AED 150 as its IGCSE starting rate and AED 200 for IB. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table gives in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350, independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500, and examined-subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with BartyED at AED 650 at the named-premium end. A quote far outside those bands is not necessarily wrong, but it should come with a reason.

Next, verify the permit position for anyone tutoring inside the UAE. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and u.ae states that it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone quoting you a price for the permit is wrong, and u.ae states that tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no schedule of amounts published.

Then verify subject knowledge with three questions that have checkable answers. How many topic areas are in the 0610 syllabus, and what are the three components worth? What exactly does a two-mark definition of active transport need to include? And can we see a marked script, with the student's name removed? Vague answers to any of those indicate somebody who knows biology rather than somebody who knows 0610. Finally, be sceptical of what cannot be verified: self-published star ratings, student numbers with no method, and any promise attached to a grade. No tutor can promise an outcome, and claims of that kind are the clearest signal available that the rest of the page should not be trusted either.

0610 for medicine, equivalency and what nobody should tell you

Biology is the science most associated with medical and health-science ambitions, so it attracts the most anxious planning. Two things are worth separating. Entry to competitive degree courses rests on post-16 qualifications, so Extended 0610 matters mainly as the gateway to AS and A Level Biology or Diploma Biology rather than as a credential in its own right. And Ministry of Education equivalency is a separate process with its own published requirements, which has nothing to do with how competitive an application is.

On equivalency, the sourced position for the British track is that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. Biology counts as one of the five on the same basis as any other IGCSE. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math.

Two things are not published and will not be stated here. No IB points threshold appears in the sourced reporting, so no figure for the IB route is given on this page; it must be read on moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority's own page before anyone relies on it. And one ranking competitor in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which the sourced reporting does not support. Equivalency is a process the Ministry performs, not a service IB Gram provides or guarantees, and nobody should tell you that tutoring is required for it, for university admission, or for school progression. That is a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process.

Starting with 0610, and what we say when nobody is free

The first step is one message and no payment: the school, the year group, the board if you know it, and a photograph of the last marked biology script. For this subject the script is particularly revealing, because the pattern of one-mark-out-of-two answers is visible immediately and tells a specialist whether the work ahead is precision, coverage or the practical paper. A free trial lesson with that specialist follows, and nothing is paid until after it has happened.

Scheduling respects the emirate's distances. Families in Al Hamra Village, Mina Al Arab and Al Marjan Island realistically start on a weekday at 7.30pm or later; Al Nakheel, Khuzam, Al Dhait and Al Qusaidat can often manage earlier. Sessions are 60 minutes by default. Rescheduling with reasonable notice carries no charge, and the plan pauses deliberately during school mock weeks rather than competing with the school's own assessment timetable, because the marked mocks are better diagnostic material than anything bought separately.

The availability answer, stated before you ask. Biology specialists at Extended level are in heaviest demand in the eight weeks before a main series, which is when most families begin looking. When nobody suitable is free at your preferred hour we say so and offer three real choices: a different time with the specialist you asked for, an available tutor whose 0610 experience we describe precisely enough for you to judge it, or a dated place on the waiting list. A general science tutor will not be presented as an 0610 specialist. Because tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video, the pool is national rather than limited to who will drive to Ras Al Khaimah, which for a subject taught in single sets across a small emirate is the whole of the argument.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah is the most spread-out emirate for school travel, and in a subject taught in small single sets the practical consequence is who a family can actually reach. These notes record that rather than describing the areas.

Al Nakheel

The central district with the shortest access to the emirate's schools. Weekday afternoon sessions are achievable here in a way they are not further south along the coast.

Khuzam

Adjacent to several school campuses, which makes short-notice scheduling comparatively easy. Weekend morning slots go early in the autumn and are difficult to recover.

Mina Al Arab

Waterfront housing south of the city with no tuition centre within a short drive. For a specialist science subject the practical options here are remote or none.

Al Hamra Village

A gated community well south of the centre. The drive into the city at session times is long enough that in-home tutoring means paying for the journey as well as the lesson.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed islands with a largely expatriate population and a mainland crossing on every school run. Realistic weekday starts sit past 7.30pm during term.

Al Dhait and Al Qusaidat

Established inland districts closer to the older campuses, where earlier weekday slots remain workable and sibling scheduling is easier to coordinate.

Al Rams, Digdaga and Khatt

Outlying towns and agricultural districts with no specialist in-home option at all. Families here are the clearest case for remote matching rather than local searching.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah city and Khuzam

The emirate's larger private schools sit near the city and span British, Indian and IB provision. Because biology runs as a single set in most year groups, the twenty-one topics are covered at one pace, and a student who falls behind in the transport or coordination topics does not meet them again in class.

  • RAK Academy - British International School Khuzam
  • Ras Al Khaimah English Speaking School
  • Delhi Private School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • Indian School Ras Al Khaimah

Al Hamra and the southern communities

Southern provision serves Al Hamra Village, Mina Al Arab and Al Marjan Island, where the drives are the longest in the emirate. A family here choosing a biology specialist on proximity is choosing from a very short list, which is the structural argument for matching on subject instead.

  • RAK Academy - British International School Al Hamra
  • Little Flower English School
  • Emirates National School, Ras Al Khaimah

Schools are named here only as context for the provision a family is choosing within. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the marked biology script

The school, the year group, the board if known, and a photograph of the last marked paper. In 0610 the pattern of one-mark-out-of-two answers shows up immediately, which tells a specialist whether the work is precision, coverage or the practical component.

  2. 02

Confirm board, tier and practical route

Cambridge 0610 and Pearson International GCSE Biology are different papers; Core caps at a C; and the practical test and the alternative paper need different preparation. All three answers come from the school's exams officer, in writing, before a plan is written.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the specialist

Sixty minutes with the tutor who would teach the course, working on questions from the marked script. One answer is rewritten into the scheme's wording so you can see the method rather than hear it described. No payment before this lesson.

  4. 04

Build the glossary from mark schemes

The student writes their own definition glossary from past mark schemes rather than from a revision guide, then writes each one from memory and has it marked. Thirty to forty definitions covers most of the recurring single-mark losses in the subject.

  5. 05

    Schedule the practical component explicitly

Worth a fifth of the grade and revised by almost nobody. Three sessions on method, variables, specific sources of error, results conventions and supported conclusions, written into the plan rather than left for whatever time remains.

  6. 06

Review with a second marked paper

After six sessions a second full paper is marked and compared against the first, topic by topic. Movement in the targeted areas with the rest flat is the right result. No movement means the plan changes rather than continues.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The marks are in the wording, so that is the work

0610 is marked on precision, not on comprehension. Sessions rewrite the student's own answers into the scheme's language until the required terms appear automatically, which moves more marks per hour than any content teaching in the syllabus.

Built around this emirate's provision

Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge approves curricula and assessment methods, biology runs in single sets, and the southern communities are a long drive from anywhere. The plan starts from that rather than from generic UAE copy.

Board confirmed before anything is taught

Cambridge 0610 and Pearson International GCSE Biology use different papers and different conventions. Drilling the wrong board's wording is worse than no tutoring, so the syllabus code is established in writing first.

A verification list, not a trust request

Published competitor rates, the MoHRE permit position, the syllabus page, the board timetables and the u.ae regulator map are all checkable, and this page says where. What cannot be checked is named as such.

The practical paper is treated as examinable

A fifth of the grade comes from the practical or alternative component and most students give it no revision at all. It is scheduled as three specific sessions, and the alternative-paper route needs no apparatus whatsoever.

No claim we are not entitled to make

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from the Department of Knowledge, the Ministry of Education, KHDA or Cambridge. We explain what each body does and never imply any of them endorses us, and no tutor here promises a grade.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

Why do strong students lose 0610 biology marks on definitions?+

Because a two-mark definition usually needs two things and students supply one. Diffusion described as movement from high to low concentration misses net movement of particles down a concentration gradient. Active transport described as movement against a gradient misses that it uses energy from respiration and membrane proteins. Transpiration described as water loss from leaves misses evaporation and diffusion of water vapour to the atmosphere. In each case the biology is understood and half the marks have gone, which is why the script reads correct to a parent. The repair is a glossary built from past mark schemes, written from memory and marked repeatedly.

How many topics are in the Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 syllabus?+

Twenty-one topic areas, running from characteristics and classification of living organisms through to biotechnology and genetic modification. That breadth is the subject's main difficulty, because the conceptual demand of any single topic is modest while the volume to hold is roughly double what students expect. The planning consequence is that revision should be ordered by what a marked paper shows is costing marks rather than by the contents list, since the early topics are usually well scored and the ecology and biotechnology topics at the end are taught last and revised least.

Which 0610 papers does my child in Ras Al Khaimah actually sit?+

Three components: a multiple-choice paper worth 30 per cent of the grade, a theory paper worth 50 per cent, and either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper worth 20 per cent. Which tier and which practical route is decided by the school, not by the family, and Core candidates are graded C to G while Extended candidates are graded A* to E. Ask the exams officer to confirm the tier, the practical route and the syllabus code in writing, and check the current paper numbers, durations and mark totals on the Cambridge International syllabus page rather than relying on a secondary summary.

What extra biology content does the Extended tier add?+

The same twenty-one topics carried further rather than a separate set of topics, which is why students can feel familiar with an area and still be unready for its Extended questions. The supplement concentrates in five places: water potential terminology in movement into and out of cells, fuller heart and blood vessel detail in transport in animals, hormonal control and homeostasis in coordination and response, more complex crosses and the molecular basis of variation in inheritance, and additional process detail in biotechnology. Those five are where a B becomes an A, and where a single school set is most likely to compress coverage.

Does the Department of Knowledge decide which exam board a RAK school uses?+

The u.ae private-schools page states that Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and that, like Sharjah's authority, it approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. So curriculum and assessment approval does sit with the emirate regulator rather than purely with the school, which is useful context when a school explains that it cannot add a subject or a second set. For the specific question of which board your child is entered with, the authoritative source is the school's exams officer, and the answer should be obtained in writing.

How do Arabic and Islamic Education fit around triple science in Ras Al Khaimah?+

They are timetabled lessons with their own assessment, not optional extras. Private schools in the UAE teach Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, and the federal position is that private schools must cover those beyond their chosen curriculum while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. KHDA's published guidance for Dubai describes the mechanics clearly: time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, a minimum advised lesson of 25 minutes, and separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. The practical effect is fewer free evenings than an option block implies.

When do Pearson Edexcel international GCSE results reach students?+

On the board's published dates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, well before the entry window for that series opens, so any plan should link the live official timetable rather than restate a date that can be revised. Your school's exams officer confirms how results are released locally.

Can my child retake 0610 biology in a November series?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, so a November retake exists in principle. Whether it is available to your child depends on the school entering that session, which is a question for the exams officer rather than for a tutoring platform. The practical constraint is time: results arrive in August, the series runs in the autumn, and entries have to be made through a centre well in advance. So the decision has to be taken within days of results rather than considered over a month, and in a small emirate the local centre's entry pattern is the deciding factor.

Is Biology 0610 required for medicine at a UAE university?+

Competitive medical admission rests on post-16 qualifications rather than on IGCSE, so Extended 0610 matters mainly as the gateway into AS and A Level Biology or Diploma Biology. Separately, Ministry of Education equivalency for British-track students requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Biology counts as one of the five. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority, and treat any claim that tutoring is required for admission as false urgency.

What can a parent verify about a biology tutor before paying?+

More than most parents attempt. Competitor rates are published, so a quote can be benchmarked: EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52, Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE, TutorChase at AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. The MoHRE private tuition work permit position is published on u.ae and on MoHRE's service page, and any UAE-based tutor can be asked to show it. Subject knowledge is testable with three questions: the number of topic areas, the three component weightings, and what a two-mark definition of active transport must include.

Why is biology taught in small sets in Ras Al Khaimah schools?+

Because the emirate's school population is small and the private schools are concentrated near Al Nakheel and Khuzam, with southern provision at Al Hamra. Separate sciences are therefore usually taught in a single set per year group, with one teacher carrying all twenty-one topics for the whole cohort at one pace and on one lab schedule. That works well for a school and has two consequences for an individual student: a topic missed is not revisited in class, and individual marking of long explanation answers is limited by arithmetic rather than by willingness. That marking gap is what families here most often buy.

How do students revise 21 biology topics without running out of time?+

By abandoning the contents list as a revision order. A marked paper shows which topics are costing marks and in which component, and the work goes there first. Students losing multiple-choice marks on the early cell and molecule topics have a recall problem that short daily definition drilling fixes cheaply. Students losing theory marks across the nutrition, transport and coordination topics have a wording problem that only marking fixes. The ecology and biotechnology topics are taught last and revised least, so they are frequently worth more attention than their position in the syllabus suggests.

Does 0610 need as much maths as chemistry and physics?+

No, and that is part of why it attracts students who find the other two sciences harder. What it does need is percentage change, magnification calculation, ratio reasoning such as surface area to volume, and competent reading of graphs and results tables. Those appear in the theory and practical components and cost marks when shaky, but there is nothing comparable to mole calculation in chemistry or formula rearrangement in physics. The trade is volume for calculation: 0610 asks a student to hold far more material and to express it far more precisely than either of the other two sciences does.

How do we prepare for the biology practical paper without a school lab session?+

If the alternative-to-practical paper has been entered, no apparatus is needed at all: the paper assesses describing method, identifying variables, naming specific sources of error, recording results with units and appropriate precision, and drawing conclusions the data supports — all in writing. If the practical test has been entered, the apparatus work happens at school and private sessions add the exam technique school lab time does not reliably cover, since a lesson optimises for completing the experiment. Either way the preparation is three focused sessions on past practical questions, which transfers to a shared screen without loss.

What makes a 0610 answer score full marks rather than most of them?+

Naming things and stating conditions. A full-mark explanation identifies the structure by name, states the process, gives the direction of movement or change, and includes the qualifier the mark scheme requires. For process questions it sets the stages out in order rather than in a paragraph that contains most of them in roughly the right sequence. Students lose sequencing marks constantly for that reason. Writing such answers as numbered steps and having them marked line by line is the whole of the fix, and it usually takes five sessions with daily practice between them.

Send a marked script and confirm the board

Two things start a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 plan properly: a photograph of the last marked script, and written confirmation from the school of the board, the tier and the practical route. With those a specialist can say whether the work ahead is precision, coverage or the practical component, and roughly how long each takes. A free trial lesson with that tutor follows at no charge, and one answer is rewritten into the mark scheme's wording during it so you can see the method rather than take it on trust. Every figure on this page names a source you can open yourself. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.
