IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

Starting from the mark you have, not the grade you want

Physics is the IGCSE where a student's grade and their understanding most often disagree. A child can explain refraction clearly at the dinner table and still lose half the marks on a question about it, because 0625 does not test whether you understand physics. It tests whether you can state a definition in the words the mark scheme accepts, rearrange a formula under time pressure, read a value off a graph with a unit attached, and describe an experiment in enough detail that someone else could repeat it. Those are separate skills, and each one can be taught.

That is why this page is organised around time rather than around topics. The useful first question is not what your child finds hard, it is how many weeks remain before the paper and what the current script actually shows. A student twenty-four weeks out with a grade D mock has a different plan from one six weeks out with a grade B who keeps losing marks on the practical paper, and a sensible tutor will not offer the same course to both.

Ras Al Khaimah adds its own constraints to that arithmetic. The emirate's private-school set is small and spread between the city side around Al Nakheel, Khuzam and Al Uraibi and the southern coastal provision near Al Hamra, so the nearest physics specialist is often not near at all. Families from Mina Al Arab or Al Marjan Island who drive to a city tuition centre twice a week spend more time in the car than in the lesson, and the group class they arrive at is usually built around the maths and chemistry demand rather than physics.

IB Gram teaches every UAE lesson one-to-one over live video. There are no home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The gain is not convenience, it is match quality: a student in Al Dhait can be taught by a tutor who teaches 0625 all week, rather than by whoever is willing to drive to Al Dhait at five in the afternoon. Physics teaches well in this format because the work is diagrams, graphs and calculations on a shared whiteboard that both people write on, and the whole board is saved afterwards.

What follows is the plan in detail: which papers your child sits at each tier, what twelve, twenty-four and seventy-two weeks of preparation can each realistically achieve, where the marks actually go in electricity, calculation and the practical paper, what the Ras Al Khaimah school year does to a revision timetable, and what the market charges in AED. Every figure quoted is attributed, and none of it is a price list for this platform. Ras Al Khaimah parents also want to know how a physics tutor handles the practical paper when nobody is in the room, and that is answered below with the mark scheme rather than with reassurance.

At a glance

  • Core sits Papers 1 and 3; Extended sits Papers 2 and 4; both add Paper 5 or Paper 6
  • The practical component carries a fifth of the grade at either tier
  • Electricity and magnetism is the largest single source of lost marks
  • Cambridge runs June and November series, with a zone-specific timetable for each
  • Confirm tier and component details on the statement of entry for your child's exam year
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics at sixteen is a staging post. These are the three stages either side of 0625, and what a tutor is actually doing at each one.

Y9Ages 12-14 · Years 7-9

Lower secondary science, before the 0625 course begins

The groundwork that decides how the first 0625 term goes: units and prefixes, rearranging a two-term formula, drawing a line of best fit, measuring with a ruler and a stopwatch and knowing which digits are meaningful. Students who arrive in Year 10 unable to make kilo, milli and mega behave predictably spend the whole course losing marks they understood the physics behind.

Across Ras Al Khaimah campuses the switch from integrated science to separate physics usually happens at the start of Year 10, and families often notice the change only when the first assessment comes back. Support at this stage is short and cheap compared with repairs later; two months of work on calculation habits in Year 9 is worth more than a term of revision in Year 11.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics

Six topic areas: motion, forces and energy; thermal physics; waves; electricity and magnetism; nuclear physics; and space physics. Core candidates sit a multiple-choice paper and a theory paper, Extended candidates sit the harder versions of both, and every candidate adds either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper, which carries a fifth of the grade.

Tier is decided by the centre and printed on the statement of entry, and it is the single most consequential piece of paper in the course because it sets the available grade range. In this emirate both tiers are entered, sometimes within the same class, so a parent should read the entry rather than assume the tier from the textbook on the kitchen table.

9702 / DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level Physics and IB Diploma Physics

Cambridge A Level Physics 9702 and IB Diploma Physics both assume 0625 content as given and move immediately into deeper mechanics, fields and quantum ideas, with far heavier mathematical demand. The students who struggle in the first term are rarely the ones who found 0625 hard; they are the ones who passed it by memorising answers rather than methods.

Post-16 physics provision in the northern emirates is thinner than in Dubai, and some families move campus or commute for it. A 0625 candidate planning an engineering or medicine route should check the specific entry requirement published by the university for their intake year, because the grade and the subject combination expected differ between institutions.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Tutoring 0625 means teaching six topic areas plus two skill sets that cut across all of them. These are the blocks, and what each one costs a student who has not secured it.

Motion, forces and energy

0625 Core and Extended

Speed, acceleration, graphs of motion, Newton's laws, moments, pressure, work, power and energy transfer. The largest topic area on the syllabus and the one most students meet first. Graph interpretation here is examined all the way through the paper, so a student who cannot read a gradient loses marks in topics that have nothing to do with motion.

Thermal physics

0625 Core and Extended

Particle model, thermal expansion, specific heat capacity, latent heat, conduction, convection and radiation. The explanation questions here are marked on particle-level language, and a student who writes that heat rises rather than that warmer, less dense fluid rises will lose the mark despite understanding the convection current perfectly.

Waves, light and sound

0625 Core and Extended

Wave properties, reflection, refraction including ray diagrams and the refractive index, dispersion, lenses, the electromagnetic spectrum and sound. Ray diagrams are drawn marks: a construction line missing an arrow or a normal drawn by eye rather than at ninety degrees costs marks that the physics itself had already earned.

Electricity and circuits

0625 Core and Extended

Charge, current, potential difference, resistance, series and parallel circuits, electrical power and energy, and circuit symbols. More 0625 marks are lost here than anywhere else, usually because a student treats a parallel branch as though it were in series, or calculates correctly in a circuit they have misread.

Magnetism and electromagnetic effects

0625 Core and Extended

Magnetic fields, the motor effect, electromagnetic induction, transformers and the d.c. motor. The questions reward a student who can state a rule and then apply it to the orientation actually drawn, which is a different skill from reciting the rule, and one that responds quickly to practice with varied diagrams.

Nuclear physics

0625 Core and Extended

Atomic structure, isotopes, alpha, beta and gamma radiation, half-life, nuclear equations and safety. A comparatively small topic with a predictable question set, which makes it reliable territory for a student who needs secure marks quickly. Half-life calculations in particular reward a method on paper rather than mental arithmetic.

Space physics

0625 Core and Extended

The solar system, orbits, stellar life cycles, the Big Bang and redshift. Often taught last and therefore revised least, which is why it appears disproportionately in the list of topics students say they have never seen. Teaching it takes a few hours and usually converts straight into marks.

Practical skills for Paper 5 and Paper 6

0625 practical component

Reading instruments, tabulating results with units in the heading, plotting, drawing a best-fit line, calculating a gradient, identifying anomalies and suggesting improvements. A fifth of the grade sits here and it is examined on method and precision rather than on knowledge, which is why it is teachable in a way the theory papers are not.

Calculation and command-term discipline

Cuts across every 0625 paper

Rearranging formulae, handling prefixes and standard form, significant figures, unit conversion, and answering state, describe, explain, calculate and suggest with the response each command term actually wants. This is the fastest-moving part of any 0625 course, because it adds marks across all six topic areas at once.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of 0625 support, chosen by how many weeks are left rather than by preference. The plan is written down at the start and revised after each mock.

Two-year course support

One hour a week through Years 10 and 11, running a term or two behind the school so that each topic is consolidated after it has been taught rather than pre-empted. Used by families who want the grade secured rather than rescued, and by students moving into physics from an integrated science programme.

  • Weekly fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time
  • Practical-skills work folded in from the first term rather than left to the end
  • Short retention checks on topics taught two months earlier

Twenty-four week rebuild

Two sessions a week from roughly the start of the final academic year, used where a mock has come back one or two grades below target. Content gaps are closed in priority order, with electricity and calculation first because they pay across the whole paper, and timed questions start from week eight.

  • Diagnostic from the marked mock script rather than a generic test
  • Written topic order with the series date as the fixed point
  • Paper 6 technique taught as its own strand

Final twelve weeks

Intensive work on the gap between what a student knows and what they can produce in forty-five or seventy-five minutes. Full papers to time, mark-scheme comparison afterwards, command-term drilling and a decision about which topics to leave alone because they cannot be rescued in the time available.

  • Timed papers every week, marked against the published scheme
  • An explicit list of topics being deliberately dropped
  • Pacing budget written on the front of each paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ras Al Khaimah

01

Where your child is now: reading a 0625 mock properly

A mock percentage is the least informative number on the report. Two students on 48 per cent can need completely different courses: one has learned four topics well and never met the other two, the other half-knows everything and cannot finish a paper. The script tells you which, and it takes about fifteen minutes to read if you know what to look for. That reading is the first thing a tutor does, and it is why we ask for the marked paper rather than the grade.

Look first at whether marks were lost on questions the student attempted or on questions left blank. Blank questions at the end mean pacing; blank questions scattered through mean missing content. Then look at the calculation questions: if the method line is right and the final number is wrong, the problem is prefixes, rearrangement or significant figures, which is a week of work. If there is no method line at all, the problem is that nobody has taught the student to write one, which is cheaper still to fix.

Next, separate the explain questions from the state questions. 0625 explanation marks are awarded for a specific chain of reasoning, and students who write a true sentence that does not contain the chain get nothing for it. A tutor can show the difference in one session using two versions of the same answer side by side, and most students never lose those marks again afterwards. It is the single highest-return hour in a physics course.

Finally, check the practical questions separately from the theory. The practical component carries a fifth of the grade and is marked on method, tabulation, plotting and precision rather than on knowledge, which means a student can be strong on physics and weak on this paper, or the reverse. Scoring those questions on their own gives you a second, more honest grade, and it is usually the one that explains the gap between what you expected and what the report said.

02

Core or Extended: which papers your child actually sits

Cambridge examines 0625 through three components, and which versions a candidate sits depends on the tier the centre enters them for. Core candidates take a multiple-choice paper and a theory paper built on the core syllabus; Extended candidates take the harder versions of both, covering the supplementary content as well. Every candidate then adds a practical component, either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical written paper, worth a fifth of the grade.

The decision matters because the tiers do not share a grade range. The Core route is capped below the top grades, and the Extended route does not reach the lowest ones, so entering a struggling student for Extended and a strong one for Core both carry a cost. The tier appears on the statement of entry, and it can usually still be changed before the final entry date for the series, which is why reading that document in the autumn is worth the five minutes it takes.

In practice the tier conversation in this emirate happens too late. Classes are sometimes taught with both tiers in the room, textbooks cover both, and the first time a family sees the word Extended in writing is on the entry confirmation. If you are not sure, ask the head of science two questions: which tier is my child entered for, and what mark in the next assessment would change that answer. Both have short, factual answers.

The table sets out the components for each route, with durations and weightings as published for the current syllabus. Confirm the version for your child's exam year on cambridgeinternational.org or with the school's exams officer, because component details and timings are reviewed between syllabus cycles and the entry is the document that governs.

Twelve weeks, twenty-four weeks, two years: what each can do

The honest answer to how much tutoring will help is a function of time. Physics content takes hours to teach and weeks to consolidate, and no amount of intensity compresses that below a floor. What changes with a short runway is the plan: you stop trying to cover the syllabus and start protecting the marks that are still reachable, which usually means securing three topic areas properly and drilling exam technique rather than touching all six.

A two-year runway allows the opposite approach. Topics are consolidated as they are taught, the practical paper is prepared from the first term rather than discovered in April, and calculation habits are built before they harden into errors. Families who start in Year 10 tend to use one hour a week and finish with fewer sessions overall than families who start panicking in February, which is an argument about cost as much as about grades.

The table below is the version of this conversation we have at the consultation. It is deliberately blunt about what gets dropped, because a plan that pretends everything is coverable in six weeks is how students end up thinly prepared across the whole paper rather than solidly prepared on two thirds of it. Grade predictions are not part of it: no tutor can promise a grade, and anyone who does should be treated with suspicion.

One caveat specific to the northern emirates. School mock timetables, half-terms and the Ramadan adjustment to the school day all land inside these windows, so the usable number of weeks is always lower than the calendar suggests. We build the plan around the school's own calendar, which means asking for it at the start rather than discovering a two-week mock block in the middle of the rebuild.

04

Electricity and circuits: the topic that decides most grades

If a 0625 cohort's marks are broken down by topic, electricity is almost always the weakest column. The physics is not conceptually harder than waves or thermal, but it is unforgiving in a specific way: a student who misreads a circuit diagram does everything else correctly and still scores zero, because the error happens before the calculation starts. Diagnosing that is simple, and the repair is a drawing habit rather than a knowledge gap.

The habit we teach is redrawing. Before any calculation, the student redraws the circuit as a clean sketch, marks which components share a branch, labels the current direction, and writes the known values onto the diagram. It takes forty seconds and it converts a misreading problem into an arithmetic problem. Students resist it because it feels slow, which is why it has to be practised under timed conditions until it is faster than the alternative.

The second cluster of lost marks is conceptual: potential difference described as something that flows, current described as being used up, resistance treated as a property of the circuit rather than of the component. These misconceptions survive because they produce correct answers to easy questions, then fail on the parallel-circuit question worth five marks. A tutor who knows the standard set can find all of them in one session with four well-chosen questions.

The third is practical. Circuit questions on Paper 5 and Paper 6 ask students to describe how to measure a resistance, what to do about a reading that drifts as a component warms, and how to improve the reliability of the result. Those answers are formulaic in the good sense: there is a right way to say them, and a student who has been shown the structure scores on questions they have never seen before.

05

Paper 5 and Paper 6: practical physics taught over video

A fifth of the 0625 grade comes from the practical component, and it is the part families worry about most when lessons are online. The worry is misplaced for a specific reason: both versions of the component examine recording, tabulating, plotting, analysing and evaluating rather than manual dexterity. The alternative-to-practical paper is written throughout, and even the practical test awards most of its marks for how results are handled rather than for the handling of the apparatus.

Those skills teach well on a shared whiteboard. A tutor presents a set of raw readings, the student builds the table with units in the column headings, plots the points, draws the best-fit line, calculates the gradient with a large triangle, and identifies the anomaly. The tutor marks it against the published criteria while the student watches, which is the part that actually moves the score, because the criteria are specific and nobody meets them by accident.

What online teaching cannot replace is the student's own time in a school laboratory, and we say so plainly. If your child sits Paper 5, their school's practical programme is the preparation and the tutoring complements it: we work on the write-up, the precision language and the evaluation questions, which is where the marks are lost. Ask the head of science which component the centre enters candidates for, because preparation for the two differs enough to matter.

There is one practical advantage to the online format here. Every graph, table and marked attempt from a session is saved rather than left in an exercise book, so a student revising in May has a folder of their own corrected work with the criteria written beside it. In our experience that folder is the single most used revision resource a 0625 candidate ends up with, and it costs nothing extra to produce.

06

Units, prefixes and significant figures: the quiet mark drain

Across a 0625 paper, a surprising share of lost marks has nothing to do with physics. It is milliamps entered as amps, centimetres used where metres were needed, a density answer given in the wrong unit, an answer written to six digits because that is what the calculator said, or a formula rearranged incorrectly under pressure. Each error is worth one or two marks, and together they routinely account for a grade boundary.

The repair is drill, and it is the least glamorous part of a physics course. Ten minutes at the start of a session on prefix conversion and rearrangement, every week, until it is automatic. Students find this tedious and parents sometimes question why a tutor is doing arithmetic rather than physics, so it is worth stating the logic: these marks are available in every topic area, they require no new understanding, and they are the cheapest marks on the paper.

Command terms belong in the same category. State, describe, explain, calculate, suggest and determine each have a required response shape, and 0625 mark schemes enforce the distinction. A student who explains when asked to state wastes time; one who states when asked to explain loses marks. Teaching the six command terms explicitly, with two examples each, takes one session and pays across both theory papers.

Significant figures deserve a specific mention because the rule is simple and widely misapplied. Give the answer to the same number of significant figures as the least precise value in the question, show more digits in the working, and never round twice. A student who writes their intermediate values in full and rounds once at the end stops losing the accuracy mark, and that is a habit rather than a skill.

07

The Ras Al Khaimah school year, and where the weeks actually go

Private schools in Ras Al Khaimah are regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, according to the UAE government's own guidance on private schools. One practical consequence is that term dates, assessment calendars and the school day differ between campuses more than parents expect, so a revision plan has to be built from your own school's calendar rather than a generic one.

The predictable interruptions are worth planning around. Mock examinations usually occupy a block of one to two weeks and consume revision time rather than creating it. Half-term and the winter break arrive at the point in the year when a twenty-four week plan is at its most fragile. Ramadan brings a shortened school day, which changes when a student is actually able to concentrate, and for many families an evening slot after iftar works better than an afternoon one during that period.

Cambridge adds its own fixed points. Entries close months before the papers, every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and Cambridge states plainly that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the exams officer for the zone and then work from that timetable only.

Put together, a twenty-four week plan on paper is usually eighteen or nineteen usable weeks in practice. We build that in from the start, which is why the first consultation asks for the school calendar and the mock dates alongside the mark. It is also why we would rather start a plan in September with one hour a week than in February with three.

08

What 0625 support costs around Ras Al Khaimah

Published tutoring rates in the UAE are set in Dubai, quoted in AED, and rarely broken down. The figures below come from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, with the source named in each row. They are market rates rather than this platform's prices: IB Gram's own rate is given at the consultation, after the trial lesson, because it depends on the subject, the level and the number of sessions.

Two things distort the comparison in the northern emirates. In-person rates look lower here than in Dubai, but the specialist pool is much thinner, so the real choice is often between a general science tutor nearby and a physics specialist online rather than between two physics specialists. And in-home rates always carry travel: a visiting tutor covering twenty-five kilometres between Al Nakheel and Al Hamra is paid for that time whether the invoice itemises it or not.

Monthly packages advertised in this market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, with Bestimate estimating AED 240 to 600 a month for budget weekly tutoring, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those are useful anchors for a budget conversation, with the date and source attached.

The variable nobody prices properly is the number of sessions actually needed. A student twenty-four weeks out who starts with a diagnostic and a written plan usually needs fewer total hours than one who starts six weeks out at three hours a week, so the monthly rate is a poor guide to the total. Ask any provider what the plan is, how many sessions it assumes, and what happens when the plan changes.

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Where a family lives in Ras Al Khaimah changes the school run, the earliest workable lesson slot and what local alternatives exist. These are the areas 0625 enquiries come from, and what the week looks like in each.

Al Nakheel

City centre, shortest school run, most tuition-centre choice. Group classes here fill around maths and chemistry first, so a physics-specific request often means waiting for a cohort to form.

Khuzam and Al Dhait

Residential belt feeding both British and city-side campuses. Buses arrive late enough that a 4.30pm or 5pm slot is the first realistic one, and that constraint decides the weekly plan more often than preference does.

Al Hamra Village

Southern coastal community near the emirate's British and international provision. Short school run, long drive to anything in the city, which is why remote lessons dominate enquiries from this side.

Mina Al Arab and Hayat Island

Newer coastal housing with a young school-age population and no tuition infrastructure of its own. Two centre visits a week cost well over two hours of driving, which is a whole extra lesson in time.

Al Marjan Island

Island housing with a single causeway route out. Evening slots work better than late-afternoon ones here, and families tend to prefer a longer weekend session to two short weekday ones.

Al Uraibi, Al Mairid and Julphar

Older city districts feeding long-established schools. Enquiries are typically single-subject and exam-driven rather than programme-wide, which fits a short, dense block of physics work.

Al Qusaidat, Al Rams and the northern strip

Coastal villages running north towards Sha'am. Distance rules out mid-week travel entirely, so the realistic options are online teaching or nothing, and families here say so plainly when they call.

Digdaga and the inland belt

Inland communities with longer bus routes and later arrivals home. A 5.30pm start protects the slot from a delayed school bus, and homework still gets done afterwards.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the script and the date

Two things start the conversation: the most recent marked 0625 paper and the series your child is entered for. The script shows whether the problem is content, pacing or calculation, and the series date fixes the number of weeks available. A grade on its own cannot be planned from.

  2. 02

    A diagnostic trial lesson

One no-charge trial lesson per subject, run as a working session. The tutor tests calculation fluency, one electricity question, one explain question and one practical-skills question, then writes you three lines on what is secure, what is shaky and what has not been taught.

  3. 03

A written plan with the weeks counted

You receive the topic order, the session pattern, the point at which timed papers start, and an explicit note of anything being deliberately left out. The school's own mock dates and term calendar are built in, so the plan survives contact with the term rather than collapsing in week four.

  4. 04

Weekly lessons and a short note after each

Lessons run one-to-one over live video at a fixed time in Gulf Standard Time, with everything written on a shared whiteboard and saved. Each session ends with two or three lines on what was covered and what to practise, which is also the revision list for May.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan is written down

You get the topic order, the number of weeks, the date timed papers start and the list of topics being dropped, in writing, before the first paid lesson. A plan that can be checked is also a plan that can be challenged, which is the point of putting it on paper rather than describing it on a call.

Matched on tier as well as subject

Core and Extended are different courses with different grade ranges, and preparation differs accordingly. We match on the tier printed on the statement of entry, which avoids the common waste of an Extended-focused tutor drilling supplementary content at a Core candidate who will never be examined on it.

Practical marks taken seriously

A fifth of the grade sits in the practical component and it is examined on tabulation, plotting, analysis and evaluation. Those are teachable over video and are built into the plan as their own strand rather than mentioned in the last fortnight when there is no time left to fix them.

Distance removed from the equation

From Mina Al Arab, Al Marjan Island or the northern strip, two centre visits a week cost more time in the car than in the lesson. Live one-to-one video returns those hours and widens the pool from tutors who will drive to your area to tutors who teach this syllabus every week.

No grade promises, attributed figures

No tutor here will promise a grade, and every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or source that published it. IB Gram is an independent matching platform with no regulator or examination-board endorsement, which is exactly what allows it to publish the market numbers plainly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

Is my child entered for Core or Extended 0625, and where do I check?+

The statement of entry from the school is the document that settles it, and the exams officer can confirm it in a sentence. Tier is not inferred from the textbook or the class, because many centres teach both tiers in one room. It matters because the two routes sit different papers and have different grade ranges: Core is capped below the top grades and Extended does not award the lowest ones. Tier can usually still be changed before the final entry date for the series, so autumn is the time to ask, not spring.

What is the difference between Paper 5 and Paper 6 in 0625?+

Paper 5 is a practical test taken with apparatus, and Paper 6 is a written alternative-to-practical paper. Both carry a fifth of the grade and both examine the same underlying skills: recording readings, tabulating with units, plotting, drawing a best-fit line, calculating a gradient, spotting anomalies and evaluating a method. Which one a candidate sits is decided by the centre, so ask the head of science. Preparation overlaps heavily, but a Paper 5 candidate also needs time with real apparatus, which is the school's laboratory programme rather than anything a tutor can substitute.

My daughter understands the physics but keeps losing marks on calculations. What actually fixes that?+

Three habits, drilled rather than explained. Writing the formula before substituting, so method marks are available even when the arithmetic fails. Converting prefixes at the point of substitution rather than hoping, which stops milliamp and kilojoule errors. And carrying full digits through the working, rounding once at the end to the significant figures the question justifies. Ten minutes a week on these for two months usually recovers more marks than a whole topic re-taught, because the gain applies to every question on both papers rather than to one topic area.

How many weeks of 0625 support does a student usually need before the June series?+

It depends far more on the starting mark than on the target. A student within one grade of target typically needs twelve weeks at two hours, mostly technique and timed papers. A student two or more grades below usually needs twenty-four weeks, because content has to be taught before it can be practised. Under six weeks the plan changes shape entirely: exam technique, the practical paper and formula fluency, with no pretence of syllabus coverage. We set the number after the diagnostic lesson rather than selling a package before anyone has read the script.

Is electricity genuinely the hardest part of 0625, or does it just feel that way?+

It is where most cohorts lose the most marks, though not because the concepts are the hardest on the syllabus. Circuit questions punish misreading: a student who treats a parallel branch as a series one performs every subsequent step correctly and still scores nothing. Add the standard misconceptions about potential difference and current, and electricity accounts for a disproportionate share of lost marks. The repair is a redrawing habit plus four diagnostic questions that expose the misconceptions, which is a fortnight of work rather than a term.

Can practical skills for the 0625 practical component be taught over video?+

The examined skills, yes. Both versions of the component award most marks for tabulating results with correct units, plotting accurately, drawing a best-fit line, calculating a gradient, identifying anomalies and suggesting improvements, and all of that works on a shared whiteboard with the tutor marking against the published criteria while the student watches. What video cannot provide is time handling apparatus, which is the school laboratory's job. For a Paper 5 candidate the two are complementary: the school supplies the practical work and the tutoring targets the recording and evaluation marks.

Does the Core tier limit the grade my son can achieve in physics?+

Yes, and that is the point of the tier rather than a flaw in it. The Core route is capped below the highest grades, so a candidate who needs a top grade for a post-16 physics route must be entered for Extended. The reverse also costs: an Extended entry for a student who is not secure on core content produces a thin result rather than a stretched one. The right question for the school is what mark in the next assessment would change the entry decision, and then whether the remaining weeks make that mark realistic.

We are five months from the paper and the 0625 mock came back very low. What is realistic?+

Five months at two hours a week is enough to change the result materially, provided the plan is selective. Expect the first six weeks to go on electricity, calculation habits and the practical component, because those pay across the whole paper. Expect one or two topic areas to be dropped deliberately, with that decision written down rather than drifted into. No honest tutor will name a grade at this stage, and anyone who does is selling. What you can ask for is a written plan and a review after the next assessment.

Does my child need maths support as well as 0625 physics support?+

Sometimes, and the diagnostic lesson usually makes it obvious. Physics at this level needs confident rearrangement of formulae, work with powers of ten and standard form, gradient calculation and proportional reasoning. A student who is comfortable in Cambridge 0580 Extended almost always has enough. A student whose physics errors are really algebra errors is better served by a short block on those specific skills inside the physics lessons than by a second subscription, and that is cheaper as well as faster.

How do physics lessons work during Ramadan and the shortened school day here?+

Schools in the emirate run a shortened day, which moves the hours when a student can actually concentrate rather than removing them. Most families switch to a later slot, commonly after iftar, and some reduce to one session a week and extend the plan instead. Because lessons are online, the change is a scheduling message rather than a renegotiated commute, which is one of the quieter advantages of the format. We ask about this at the planning stage so the plan accounts for it rather than breaking when the term shifts.

What does a Cambridge 0625 physics tutor cost around Ras Al Khaimah?+

Published UAE rates are Dubai rates. EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150, TutorChase quotes around AED 270, Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts specialist IGCSE and IB tutoring at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for premium examiner-led work. In-home visits in that table run AED 180 to 350 once travel is counted, and travel distances in this emirate are long. IB Gram's own rate is quoted at the consultation after the trial lesson.

Is 0625 enough preparation for A Level Physics 9702 or IB Diploma Physics?+

It is the assumed starting point for both, which is not the same as being sufficient. Students who struggle in the first post-16 term are usually those who passed 0625 by memorising answers rather than methods, and the gap shows up fastest in mechanics and in the mathematical handling of data. A candidate who can derive rather than recall, who writes method lines, and who is comfortable with graphs and units will find the step manageable. If post-16 physics is the plan, say so, because it changes what a tutor emphasises in Year 11.

Can one tutor cover both 0625 Physics and 0580 Maths for the same student?+

Often yes, and where the physics problems are really algebra problems it is the better arrangement, because the same person sees both symptoms. The limit is depth: a tutor who teaches physics all week and maths occasionally is the right choice for a student whose maths is solid, and the wrong one for a student who needs genuine 0580 Extended teaching. Tell us both subjects at the consultation and we will say honestly whether one specialist covers it or whether two shorter weekly slots serve the student better.

What happens if no 0625 specialist is free at the time we need?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with a general science tutor. In practice there are three options: a different hour on the same days, a different day, or a wait with a date attached. Which one is on offer is stated plainly along with the trade-off, because a physics specialist at an inconvenient hour usually beats a non-specialist at a convenient one for an exam-year student. If none of the three works for your family, we say that too instead of taking a booking we cannot staff properly.

Will a tutor come to our house in Al Hamra Village for physics lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video. On a practical level that is also what makes a 0625 specialist available to a family on the southern coast of this emirate at all, rather than whichever tutor is willing to drive to Al Hamra Village on a weekday afternoon. Physics suits the format: diagrams, circuits, graphs and calculations live on a shared whiteboard that both people write on, and the work is saved.

Count the weeks, then pick the plan

The useful next step for a Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 candidate in Ras Al Khaimah is small and specific. Send the most recent marked paper, the series your child is entered for, the tier on the statement of entry and your school's mock dates. We read the script, run one no-charge trial lesson per subject as a working diagnostic, and send back a written plan: topic order, session pattern, when timed papers start and what we are deliberately leaving out. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If no physics specialist is free at the hour you need, we will say so and give you the alternatives rather than fill the slot.
