IGCSE Resit Tutor in the UAE

A result has arrived that your child cannot live with, and you are now pricing an IGCSE resit tutor in the UAE against another full year of school fees. This page gives you the arithmetic rather than the reassurance: what a second attempt costs across entry, hours and a results enquiry, which of those bills somebody else sets, and what the hours have to change before the spend makes sense. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the specialist is chosen for the syllabus and the component your child actually lost marks on.

  • Market resit rates quoted in AED and attributed to the provider that publishes them
  • Component-level diagnosis from the statement of results before any hours are sold
  • One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, across all seven emirates
  • Entry deadlines taken from Cambridge and Pearson, linked rather than restated

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

A resit is a purchase with a number attached, so start with the number

Results day has already happened in your house. There is a grade on the screen that is below what the school forecast, or below what a sixth form, a university offer or a Ministry of Education equivalency file needs, and the conversation has moved from teaching to money. Two numbers decide everything from here. The first is what a second attempt costs across all of its parts. The second is what that attempt has to change to be worth buying. Most families only ever see the second number as a hope rather than a target, which is why resit money so often goes on general revision in a subject where only one component failed.

The cost of an IGCSE resit arrives as four separate bills, and you control exactly one of them. The entry fee is set and published by the school or by the examination centre that accepts private candidates. The late-entry scale is set by the board, and it bites from a date months before the papers: a Cambridge November entry closes in the middle of the year, well before the autumn papers, and a June entry closes in the spring, so the surcharge window opens long before anyone feels ready. A results enquiry, if you go that route first, is priced by the centre and filed by its exams officer, not by a parent. Only the tutoring hours are yours to size, and sizing them is the whole job of this page.

A second attempt is cheaper to teach well than a first attempt, because you are no longer guessing. A first-time Year 11 candidate has school reports and a mock. A resit candidate has a statement of results carrying marks for each component the board set, plus the syllabus code and the variant digits of the papers actually sat. That is a diagnosis rather than an impression. A child who held up on the multiple-choice component and fell apart on the structured paper has a problem with written answers under timing, not a problem with physics. Spending on a full syllabus rewrite would be spending on the part that already worked.

A second attempt is also harder to staff than a first attempt, which is the part nobody prices honestly. You need one board, one syllabus, one tier and frequently one component, inside a window that may be eight weeks long, for a student who has already lost confidence in the subject. The pool of people who can do that within a twenty-minute drive of a villa in Khalifa City or an apartment in Jumeirah Lakes Towers is small, and it gets smaller the more specific the need. The pool of people who can do it over live video is the whole country and beyond, which is why IGCSE retake tuition is the clearest case for online delivery in the entire tutoring market.

So this page is built as a cost sheet with teaching attached. It reads the evidence you already hold, lists the four bills and who sets each, publishes the market AED bands with the provider that charges them named, puts the hours against the grade change they have to produce, compares a resit with repeating the year at frozen Dubai fees, counts the calendar backwards from the day the result landed, and sets out the private candidate route for families whose school will not re-enter their child. One thing to say plainly at the top: IB Gram does not make home visits in the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video.

At a glance

  • Four bills on a resit: entry, late-entry surcharge, results enquiry, tutoring hours
  • You set only the last one, so it is the only one worth optimising
  • Component marks on the statement of results are the cheapest diagnostic available
  • UAE candidates resit in Cambridge's June or November series; the February/March series is offered to India only, so it is not a route from here
  • Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026
  • Five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 for the British track of MoE equivalency

A resit sits on one of a small number of routes, and the route changes the price, the deadline and who files the paperwork. Identify yours before you compare quotes, because a Core-tier candidate aiming at a grade the tier cannot award is being sold something that cannot be delivered. The codes and tiers below are the ones printed on your child's statement of entry.

COREAges 14-16 · Years 10-11 · resat at any age

Cambridge IGCSE, Core tier

The Core tier covers the shared content of a Cambridge IGCSE syllabus and is examined on its own component set, with a grade range narrower at the top than the Extended tier's. A resit on Core is therefore two decisions, not one: whether the marks can be recovered, and whether the tier itself is the ceiling that produced the disappointing grade. Confirm the current grade range for your syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org before planning any hours.

In UAE schools the tier is usually decided by the department during Year 10 and locked at entry, which means a family often discovers the ceiling only when the result arrives. A Dubai or Sharjah school will have its own policy on moving a former pupil up a tier for a second attempt, and SPEA approves assessment methods for Sharjah schools, so the conversation runs through the school rather than around it. Ask in writing which tier the re-entry would use.

EXTAges 14-16 · Years 10-11 · resat at any age

Cambridge IGCSE, Extended tier

Extended adds the supplement content and is examined on the harder component set, with the full grade range available. Most UAE resits happen here, and most of them are component-specific rather than syllabus-wide: a strong multiple-choice mark alongside a weak structured paper, or solid theory undone by the alternative-to-practical component. The statement of results will show which, and that is where the first hour of a Cambridge IGCSE resit should go.

Extended entries dominate the British-curriculum schools that make up the largest share of Dubai's private sector, which KHDA oversees as the authority responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Practically, that means most UAE resit candidates are Extended candidates competing for the same narrow pool of Extended-level subject specialists in the same eight-week window, and that scarcity is what the rate bands further down this page actually reflect.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's International GCSE syllabuses carry 4-prefixed codes such as 4MA1 for Mathematics A and 4PH1 for Physics, and are examined in a May/June series and a November series each year. A Pearson Edexcel International GCSE resit is often the faster of the two board routes in practice, because the November series exists specifically as a second bite and its results reach students in January.

Several UAE schools teach Cambridge for some subjects and Pearson for others in the same year group, so a family resitting two subjects can find itself managing two boards, two timetables and two sets of deadlines. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so the only safe practice on a UAE resit plan is to link the live timetable on qualifications.pearson.com rather than copy a date into a planner.

The private candidate IGCSE resit route

A private candidate IGCSE resit is an entry made through an examination centre that accepts candidates it does not teach, rather than through a school. The centre sets and publishes its own private candidate fee, handles the entry, hosts the papers and issues the statement of results. It is the route for a student whose school has left, whose school will not re-enter former pupils, or who is adding a subject the school does not offer.

Centre coverage in the UAE is uneven. Dubai carries most of the centres that take private candidates, Abu Dhabi has fewer, and the northern and eastern emirates have fewer still, so a family in Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain may be planning a drive on each paper day. Ask any centre for its published fee list, the components it can host, and whether it accepts candidates for the specific syllabus code on the statement of entry.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Resits cluster in a predictable set of subjects, and the reason is almost always component-shaped rather than subject-shaped. The codes below are the common Cambridge and Pearson pairings, but check the code printed on your child's own statement of entry before anything is booked, because the same subject name sits on different codes at different schools.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended tiers, Foundation and Higher papers

The most resat IGCSE subject in the UAE and the one where tier choice does most of the damage. Marks go missing on multi-step problems where method marks are available but no working is shown, and on the topics taught last in Year 11 when revision time had already run out. A resit plan here is a topic audit against the component marks, then timed paper work.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended tiers

Electricity and the practical component account for most physics resits. Students who can state a law lose marks explaining a circuit in words, and the alternative-to-practical component rewards a way of writing about apparatus, variables and sources of error that is rarely taught explicitly. Both are trainable inside a short block, which is why physics responds well to a focused second attempt.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended tiers

Moles arithmetic and organic reaction pathways are the two cliffs. A resit candidate usually arrives able to recite definitions and unable to carry a calculation through unit changes without losing a factor of ten. Work on the calculation habits transfers across the whole paper, so chemistry resits often improve faster than the family expects from the first mark.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended tiers

Biology grades slip on command words rather than content. Describe, explain and suggest ask for different shapes of answer and carry different marks, and a student who answers all three the same way loses steadily across a whole paper. A resit block here is largely answer-structure work against the published assessment objectives, with content revision as the smaller half.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award, Core and Extended tiers

A single qualification covering biology, chemistry and physics content, which makes a resit awkward: one weak discipline drags a grade that the other two supported. The component marks will usually show which third of the syllabus failed, and the resit hours should be weighted accordingly rather than split evenly across three sciences.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500, Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Reading response and directed writing are where marks move. Candidates who read widely still lose marks for not answering the question asked of the passage, and for writing in a register the task did not request. A resit is spent on close-reading drills and on timed writing against the published mark descriptors, not on reading more books.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended, with and without the oral endorsement

The listening and reading components reward a scanning technique that can be taught quickly, and the writing components reward a small number of reliable sentence structures. For UAE students who need an English grade for a Ministry of Education equivalency file, this is frequently the subject where a single grade change completes the whole application.

Economics (Cambridge 0455, Pearson 4EC1)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy and the evaluation half of extended answers decide economics grades. Students lose marks drawing a correctly labelled diagram and then not referring to it, and lose more by describing a policy without weighing it. Both faults are visible in a single marked script, which makes economics a strong candidate for a short, evidence-led resit block.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450, Pearson 4BS1)

Single tier

Application to the case material is the marked difference between a mid and a high grade. A resit candidate typically knows the theory and writes it in the abstract, scoring knowledge marks and missing application and analysis marks. Rebuilding answers around the case stem is the core of the work and shows up in marks within a few sessions.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Pseudocode and trace tables cost marks in volume, and the theory paper punishes vague definitions of hardware and data representation. Specialist supply in this subject is thinner across the UAE than in maths or the sciences, which shows up both in availability and in what the market charges for an hour. Book earlier than you would for a science resit.

Geography (Cambridge 0460)

Single tier

Case-study recall and the skills paper carry the grade. Candidates lose marks offering a general answer where a named example was required, and lose more misreading graphs and maps under time pressure. A resit here builds a small bank of properly specific examples rather than revising the whole syllabus again.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

A resit has a hard deadline and a known weak component, so the shape of the hours matters more than the number of them. These four shapes cover almost every second attempt we are asked about, and each is priced by the hour rather than sold as a package you cannot leave.

Diagnostic first, block second

One free trial lesson in the subject being resat, with the statement of results open on screen, before anybody quotes you hours. The student works a short section of a past paper under timing while the tutor watches the process rather than the answers, and the session ends with a written note of which component the hours should target. No card is required and nothing is payable before or after the trial.

  • Component marks read against live performance, not against a school report
  • Written output: the target component and the number of hours it needs
  • One free trial per subject, no payment details taken
  • You can stop there and use the note elsewhere

A fixed resit block to the entry deadline

Weekly or twice-weekly one-to-one hours running from the diagnosis to the paper, sized to the component rather than the syllabus. The block is reviewed at its midpoint against the plan written in session one, and hours can be moved between subjects if a second resit is running alongside. Most families resitting one subject book in the range of eight to sixteen hours, which is a planning assumption rather than a measured outcome.

  • Sized from the component breakdown, not from the subject name
  • Midpoint review against the written plan
  • Hours transferable between two subjects on the same timetable
  • Scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, after school or post-Iftar in Ramadan

Final-six-weeks intensive

For families who come to this after the entry has already been made and the window is short. Two or three sessions a week, built entirely around timed component practice and the marking criteria, with content work only where the component breakdown proves it is the cause. An intensive block cannot rebuild a syllabus from nothing, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling hours rather than a plan.

  • Two to three sessions weekly, timed-paper led
  • Content work only where the marks prove it is needed
  • Honest about what six weeks cannot fix
  • Works for both Cambridge IGCSE resit and Pearson November entries

Private candidate support alongside the hours

Where the school will not re-enter your child, the academic work is the easier half. These sessions include time spent on the administration: identifying centres that accept private candidates for your syllabus code, reading their published fee lists, checking which components they can host, and working the entry deadline backwards into a revision timetable you can actually keep.

  • Centre shortlist built around your syllabus code and components
  • Published fee lists compared rather than estimated
  • Entry deadline placed at the top of the revision plan
  • Alternative-to-practical and oral components checked before entry

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What the statement of results already told you, for free

  • Request the component breakdown in writing from the exams officer
  • Compare forecast grade, mock result and final outcome side by side
  • Note the syllabus code and variant digits before shortlisting any tutor
  • Treat the first session as a diagnosis, not a lesson

A first attempt leaves behind evidence that a first-time candidate never has, and most families pay for tutoring without ever reading it. The statement of results carries the overall grade, and behind that grade the marks for each component the board set, together with the syllabus code and the variant digits of the papers actually sat. Those statement of results component marks are the cheapest diagnostic in the entire process, because they tell you which paper failed rather than which subject failed. The difference is the difference between a focused block and a wasted term.

Ask the school's exams officer for the component breakdown in writing, and ask for it before you speak to anybody about rates. Put it next to two other things you already hold: the forecast grade the school submitted, and the mock result it was based on. Where the forecast and the outcome agree, the problem is genuine and content-shaped. Where the forecast sat two grades above the outcome, something happened in the room rather than in the syllabus, and the hours should be spent on timing, reading the question and answer structure instead of on re-teaching topics the student already knows.

What the statement will never tell you is why. It cannot show that the paper ran out of time with two structured questions untouched, that a topic was taught during a week of absence, or that the tier was the ceiling all along. That is the only honest purpose of a first diagnostic session: the student works a section of a real past paper under timing while the tutor watches the process, and the two sources of evidence are put side by side. A resit plan written before that comparison is a guess with a price on it.

The four bills behind a second attempt, and who sets each one

Families quote the tutoring rate at each other because it is the number they are shown. It is rarely the largest number and it is the only one you control. The first bill is the entry itself, made either as a re-entry through the school or as a private candidate IGCSE resit at a centre that accepts candidates it does not teach. Either way the amount is set and published by the school or the centre, not by a tutor and not by us. Ask for the published fee list in writing, and ask whether it is per subject or per component.

The second bill is the late-entry scale, which the board sets and which starts running from a date a long way before the papers. Pearson's November 2026 timetable is the clearest illustration available: the papers run from late October to 19 November 2026, and entries close well ahead of that, so the money is committed in the summer for an autumn sitting. Cambridge works the same way across its two series, with a June entry closing in the spring and a November entry closing mid-year; the exact dates come from your centre, not from a tutoring site. The third bill only applies if you go to the board about the original mark first: a results enquiry is filed by the centre's exams officer, priced by the centre, and some centres return the fee when a grade changes. A parent cannot file one directly.

The fourth bill is the hours, and here the IGCSE resit cost in AED is genuinely yours to size. The published market bands in the next section run from roughly AED 45 at the budget end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, which is a fourteen-fold spread for something described on every website as the same service. The spread is not noise. It tracks who is permitted to teach, what they know about one syllabus, and whether the hour is spent on diagnosis or on filling time until the exam.

What the UAE market charges for resit hours, with the publisher named

Three of the six best-ranking pages for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. The figures below were read in October 2026 from each provider's own published page, plus Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They are the market, not an IB Gram price list. We do not publish an hourly rate on this page because the honest answer depends on the subject, the component and the window, and a number invented to fill a table is worse than no number.

Read the bands as a description of supply rather than of quality. The budget tier is occupied largely by university students and recent school leavers, a group the UAE private tuition work permit explicitly covers: the permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years and its eligible applicants include unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. A lawful AED 60 hour is therefore entirely possible. What it is unlikely to include is a reading of your child's component marks, a plan written against the board's assessment objectives, or experience of the specific variant sat.

At the other end, a premium named figure such as the AED 650 an hour BartyED publishes buys scarcity, and on a resit scarcity sometimes is the product: a thin-supply subject like Computer Science 0478 inside a six-week window is a genuinely hard booking. The band that most resits actually settle in is the qualified-to-specialist range of roughly AED 150 to 450, and the decision inside that range should be made on whether the person can name where the marks went, not on where they sit in the table.

Cost per grade: the arithmetic that decides whether to resit at all

A resit is worth buying when the grade change it produces is worth more than the total of the four bills. That sounds obvious and it is almost never written down. Write it down. Name the grade you need and why you need it, because the answer is usually one of four things: a sixth-form or college entry requirement, a conditional university offer, a Ministry of Education equivalency count that is one subject short, or a subject the student intends to continue at A-Level and cannot currently cope with. Each of those has a different tolerance for a near miss, and some of them do not need the resit at all.

Then size the hours against the component rather than the subject. A single weak component inside an otherwise sound performance is the cheapest thing in this whole market to fix, because the content is already there and what is missing is a technique. A syllabus that was never properly taught is the most expensive, because you are buying a year of teaching in a term and the honest number of hours is large enough that repeating the year starts to compete on price. The planning figures in the table below are planning figures: they are how we size a block, not a measured outcome, and no tutor can promise a grade.

Finally, put a stop condition on the spend before it starts. Agree at the midpoint review what evidence would say the plan is working, usually a marked paper on the target component showing a specific movement in marks. If the evidence is not there, the right decision is to change the plan or stop, not to add hours. Families who skip this step tend to discover in the last fortnight that they have bought twenty hours and still have the original problem, which is the single most common way resit money is wasted in this market.

Repeating Year 11 against resitting the subject

  • Dubai's 2026-27 private school fees were confirmed frozen by KHDA on 22 May 2026
  • A resit fixes a grade; a repeated year fixes an education
  • Ask the admissions office whether the grade is actually disqualifying, first
  • Price the twelve months as well as the fees

This is the comparison UAE families actually make, and it is almost never laid out with the numbers facing each other. Repeating a year means a full year of published school fees, and in Dubai that figure is unusually knowable right now: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. So the comparison is a known annual fee at a frozen rate against an entry fee plus a block of hours.

On price the resit wins overwhelmingly in almost every case, which is why the decision should turn on what each route actually fixes. A resit fixes a grade. A repeated year fixes an education, and sometimes that is the thing that is broken: a student who arrived mid-year from another curriculum, who missed a long stretch through illness, or who was placed in a tier that never suited them may need the teaching rather than the second entry. A repeated year also costs twelve months of a young person's life, and that cost does not appear on any fee schedule.

There is a third route families forget to price, which is accepting the grade and making the case. A sixth form, a college or a university admissions office may take a lower grade in one subject alongside strong results elsewhere, particularly where the subject is not a prerequisite for the intended course. Asking the admissions office before buying anything costs one email. It is, measured against every other row in the table below, the cheapest option on this page, and the one nobody in this market has any commercial reason to recommend to you.

The resit calendar, counted forward from the day the result landed

Nobody in this search cluster publishes a date. The word November returned no hits on every competitor page we could fetch, which means a UAE parent researching a resit online is given rate cards and no calendar. The calendar is the part that decides whether a plan is possible at all, because every meaningful deadline on a resit sits months before the paper and the entry closes while the family is still deciding whether to resit.

The published anchors are worth memorising. Pearson's International GCSE runs in a May/June series and a November series; its November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Its June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and its November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That last date is the single most useful fact on this page for a family weighing a November entry, because it tells you precisely when a November resit grade becomes a document you can send to anybody.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and for a resit that pairing is the whole decision. June is the main sitting with results in August; November is the fast resit route, sat in October and November with results in January. The February/March series that appears on some tutoring sites is offered to India only and is not available to a UAE candidate, so a plan built on it collapses at the entry stage. Pearson gives the same choice with dates you can hold: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, the November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Confirm every date against the board's live timetable, since Pearson publishes provisional timetables that are later revised.

Sitting the resit as a private candidate when the school says no

  • A school is not obliged to re-enter a former pupil for a second attempt
  • Ask a centre: your syllabus code, the components it can host, the published fee
  • Check whether your syllabus permits a component mark to be carried forward
  • Dubai holds most UAE centres; the northern and eastern emirates hold fewest

A school is under no obligation to re-enter a former pupil, and plenty do not. That is the moment many UAE families discover the private candidate route exists, usually with less time left than they would like. A private candidate entry is made through an examination centre that accepts candidates it does not teach. The centre sets and publishes its own fee, makes the entry with the board, hosts the papers and issues the statement of results. Nothing about it is unusual; it is simply administered by somebody other than a school.

The question that catches families out is components. A syllabus is not only written papers. There may be an alternative-to-practical component, a coursework component, or a speaking endorsement, and not every centre can host every one of them. Ask a shortlisted centre three things in writing: whether it accepts private candidates for your exact syllabus code, which components of that code it can host, and what its published fee is per subject. If a centre cannot host a component your syllabus requires, the entry is not viable there no matter how convenient the location.

The second question is carry-forward. Some syllabuses allow a previously awarded coursework or component mark to be carried into a later series, and some do not; it is a syllabus-specific rule rather than a general one. The exams officer at the centre can confirm the position for your code against the board's own syllabus page, and the answer changes the plan materially, because a carried mark removes a whole component from the revision timetable. Settle it before you buy hours, not after.

The five grades a UAE resit is usually chasing

A great many UAE resits are not about an A at all. They are about reaching a count. For the British track of Ministry of Education equivalency, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must also show either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for that count.

Read what that does to the maths of a second attempt. A student with four qualifying subjects and a fifth below the threshold needs one grade, in one subject, to move one step. That is the single cheapest and most consequential resit in this market, and it is the one families most often misunderstand, because they assume more subjects or higher grades are required. One ranking competitor states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published clarification says five, and the difference is an entire unnecessary entry plus a block of hours.

Two cautions. The American track has its own requirements, including a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT for English, and at least 450 in SAT Math before applying. And no IB points threshold for equivalency should be taken from any tutoring website, including this one, without reading it on moe.gov.ae. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of an equivalency or attestation process, and tutoring is not required for it; we describe it, cite the source and point you to the official channel.

Why the right resit tutor is probably not within driving distance

Everything a resit needs works against hiring locally. You need one board, one syllabus code, one tier and often one named component, available in a window that may be eight weeks wide, for a student who has stopped believing the subject is learnable. The pool of people who satisfy all of that within a twenty-minute drive of your address is small in Dubai and very small in Ajman, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain. Widen the pool to anyone who can teach over live video and the constraint disappears, which is why online IGCSE resit tuition is not a compromise on this particular purchase but the obvious form of it.

Be clear about what we do and do not sell. IB Gram does not make home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and we do not provide in-person tuition in the UAE at all. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. The query that brought you here may well have been for a visiting tutor, and the honest answer is that the market for visiting tutors is real, it charges roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel priced in, and on a component-specific resit it usually buys you a generalist close by instead of a specialist in your syllabus.

The practical gains are specific rather than rhetorical. A screen-shared past paper means both people are reading the same mark scheme at the same time, which is how answer-structure work actually gets done. A session can be recorded for the student to re-watch before a paper. Nobody loses forty minutes of a sixty-minute slot to the Sheikh Zayed Road at five o'clock. And when a result has already gone badly once, being taught by the person who knows that exact variant matters more than being taught by the person who lives nearby.

Where a tutor stops on a second attempt

  • A tutor teaches, marks and gives feedback; the assessed work stays the student's own
  • A carried-forward component mark is not reopened or improved after the fact
  • Board material is linked from cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, never redistributed
  • Ask any tutor to confirm the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which costs them nothing

A resit raises the temptation, because the stakes are higher and the window is shorter. The line does not move. A tutor teaches, questions, marks and gives feedback. Everything the board assesses has to be the student's own, from first note to submission, and nobody at IB Gram will produce assessed material on a student's behalf or supply finished text for a student to submit. One page ranking in this market sells finished Internal Assessments outright. That is an academic-integrity breach that puts the student's qualification at risk, and it is the clearest available example of what to refuse to buy.

Where a component mark is being carried forward from the first attempt, the position is stricter rather than looser: that mark belongs to work already submitted and assessed, and it is not something to be revisited or improved after the fact. Where a coursework component is being sat again, the student starts again, with a tutor who may discuss method, question an argument and mark a draft against the published criteria, and who may not supply the content. Say this out loud to any provider you are considering, and listen carefully to how they answer it.

Two more boundaries worth knowing. Past papers, mark schemes, grade-threshold tables and syllabus documents belong to Cambridge and Pearson; we link to the boards' own sites and we do not redistribute their material as a download, no matter how convenient a revision pack would be. And the person teaching your child in the evening needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years; those offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. You can ask a tutor to confirm their permit before the first paid hour.

The dead months, Ramadan, and when resit hours actually fit

A resit year has a strange shape. The result lands in the middle of August, when a large part of the country is out of the UAE, and the next set of papers may not sit until late October or February. Those weeks in between are where resit plans quietly die. The family decides to resit in August, nothing is arranged while people are away, September goes on settling back into school, and by the time anybody books an hour the entry deadline is close and the useful preparation window has halved. The fix is unglamorous: make the entry decision and the first diagnostic booking in the same fortnight as the result.

The UAE calendar then sits on top of the examination calendar. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA calculates their instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, so a resit candidate in school is carrying those periods alongside the subject being resat. They cannot be dropped to make room, and the resit timetable has to be built around the week the school actually runs rather than the week a revision guide assumes.

Ramadan deserves planning rather than improvisation. Shortened school days, altered family routines and later evenings change when a sixty-minute session is genuinely useful, and for many UAE families post-Iftar is the most productive slot of the day rather than a concession. Because lessons run over live video, the slot can move without anybody renegotiating a commute, and sessions can follow a family that travels between emirates or out of the country mid-block. Build the Ramadan weeks into the plan at the diagnosis, and decide then whether the hours drop in number or simply move in the day.

Where we tutor

Where a UAE resit candidate actually sits the papers

A resit is an administrative act as much as an academic one, and the administration is emirate-specific. Which authority oversees the school, how many centres accept private candidates nearby, and how far you drive on a paper morning all change by emirate. Lessons themselves are delivered online everywhere below.

Dubai

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and Dubai carries most of the examination centres that accept private candidates. Both the June and November series are commonly available here. Ask your school in writing whether it re-enters former pupils before assuming the private candidate route.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, so the person who taught the first attempt will not be the person coaching the resit.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with far fewer centres than the capital. Families here often find that a private candidate entry means travelling to Abu Dhabi on each paper day, which has to go into the plan before an entry is made rather than after. Confirm the centre's hosted components early.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A post-results change of qualification or tier is therefore a school-and-authority conversation, not something a parent can arrange independently with a tutor.

Ajman

The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, alongside Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Centre choice is thin, so the practical question on a resit is which nearby centre hosts the specific components your child needs, including any alternative-to-practical paper.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. Appearing in none of the competitor pages we studied, RAK families are usually planning both a tutor and a paper-day drive at the same time.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory, and the thinnest centre coverage in the country. An east-coast family resitting in November should settle the centre question before the entry deadline, because a cross-country drive on three separate paper mornings is a different commitment from an eight-week block of online hours.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. UAQ appears nowhere in the competitor corpus we measured, which means families here get the least published help and the most guesswork. Start with the centre's published private candidate fee list, then plan the hours around the paper dates it can host.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's British-curriculum schools produce the largest share of UAE resit candidates simply by volume, and they are also where tier decisions are most often the hidden cause of a disappointing grade. Students we support attend schools across the emirate; the names below are the ecosystem a Dubai resit sits inside.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Winchester School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

In the capital the resit conversation is shaped by ADEK's ethics rules, which keep a child's own subject teacher out of paid private tuition. That pushes families towards an external specialist from the start, and online delivery removes the Corniche-to-Khalifa-City drive from the equation entirely.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Repton Al Barsha families relocating to Abu Dhabi
  • Al Ain English Speaking School

Sharjah and the Northern Emirates

Here the binding constraint is rarely the tutor and almost always the centre. With SPEA, the RAK Department of Knowledge and the Ministry of Education each overseeing part of this group, families resitting outside Dubai need the centre's hosted-component list before they need a timetable of lessons.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Australian International School Sharjah
  • RAK Academy
  • Ajman Academy

Named schools and centres are context for the UAE examination ecosystem only; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, centre, board or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the statement of results, not a description of it

Share the document itself, with the component marks, the syllabus code and the variant digits. Add the forecast grade the school submitted if you have it. Nothing useful can be planned from a subject name and a grade letter, and any provider willing to quote hours without seeing the breakdown is quoting a package rather than a plan.

  2. 02

Take the free diagnostic trial lesson

One free trial lesson per subject, with no payment details taken and nothing payable before or after it. The student works a timed section of a real past paper while the tutor watches the process. The session is a diagnosis, not a sales call, and it ends with a written note of the target component and the hours it needs.

  3. 03

Get the resit plan in writing, with the deadline at the top

The plan names the board, the syllabus code, the series, the final entry date, the component being targeted and the evidence that will show progress at the midpoint. If a private candidate entry is needed, it also names the shortlisted centres and what each one has confirmed it can host. Then you can compare it against any other quote.

  4. 04

Buy a block, with a stop condition agreed in advance

Hours are bought by the hour against the plan, not as a monthly subscription, because a resit changes shape once the diagnosis is in. Agree at the start what the midpoint review has to show and what happens if it does not. Hours can be moved between two subjects where a child is resitting more than one.

  5. 05

Review at the midpoint, before the window closes

A marked paper on the target component, compared against the first diagnostic. If the marks have moved, the block continues as planned. If they have not, the plan changes or the spend stops. Adding hours to a plan that is not working is the most common way resit money disappears in this market.

  6. 06

Hand back for the paper, and disclose any gap

The final sessions belong to timed practice under exam conditions on the component that failed first time. If no specialist is available for a thin-supply subject or an unusual syllabus code in your window, we say so rather than substituting a generalist, and we say it before anything is paid for.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The component, not the subject

A resit is the one point in a student's school career where the evidence already exists. Every plan starts from the component marks on the statement of results rather than from the subject name, because teaching a whole syllabus again to fix one structured paper is the most expensive mistake available in this market.

AED figures with the publisher attached

Every rate on this page is a market figure read in October 2026 from the provider that publishes it, named in the table. We do not print an IB Gram hourly rate here because the honest answer depends on subject, component and window, and a number invented to fill a column is worse than an empty column.

Deadlines linked, never remembered

Entry dates, timetables and results dates come from cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, with the published position and the date we read it stated. Pearson revises provisional timetables, so every resit plan links the live official document rather than trusting a figure copied into a planner.

One specialist, chosen from the whole pool

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the tutor is selected for your syllabus code, tier and component rather than for proximity to your address. On a second attempt in a thin-supply subject, that difference is frequently the difference between a booking and no booking.

A stop condition, not an open-ended package

Hours are sized to a target, reviewed at a midpoint against a marked paper, and stopped or changed if the evidence is not there. Nobody can promise a grade, and we do not. What can be promised is that you will be told what the hours bought while there is still time to spend them differently.

Independent, and plain about what that means

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, occupies no UAE office, and performs no part of the equivalency or attestation process. Named schools and centres on this page are context, not relationships.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

The grade came back one band below the forecast. Should we ask for a review or go straight to a resit?+

Ask about the review first, because it is time-limited and a resit is not. A results enquiry is filed by the examination centre's exams officer, not by a parent, and the centre prices it per candidate per component. Ask the officer for the deadline, the price and whether the fee is returned when a grade changes. A review is most worth filing where the result is inconsistent with every mock and every piece of coursework, and least worth filing where the component marks match what the school already saw all year. Either way, note the entry deadline for the next series while you wait, because the review timetable can run close to it.

Does a resit grade replace the original one, or does the lower result stay visible?+

Each series produces its own statement of results, and the earlier result is not deleted from the record. What a particular institution sees depends on what is submitted to it and on that institution's own rule about which attempt it considers. Some admissions offices take the highest grade, some ask for every result, and some care only that a threshold was met. The only reliable way to find out is to ask the sixth form, college, university or attestation authority directly before you make the entry, and to get the answer in writing. It costs one email and it occasionally makes the whole resit unnecessary.

Can our son resit only the paper he failed, or does the whole subject have to be sat again?+

In most cases the whole subject is entered again and every written component is sat again, because an IGCSE grade is awarded on the complete syllabus rather than paper by paper. The partial exception is carry-forward: some syllabuses permit a previously awarded coursework or component mark to be carried into a later series, and some do not. It is a syllabus-specific rule, so the exams officer at your school or centre should confirm the position for your exact code against the board's own syllabus page. Settle that question before hours are bought, because a carried component removes a whole chunk of the revision timetable.

Our daughter has left school and nobody will re-enter her. Can she still resit in the UAE?+

Yes, through a private candidate entry at an examination centre that accepts candidates it does not teach. The centre makes the entry, hosts the papers and issues the statement of results, and it sets and publishes its own fee. Ask any shortlisted centre three things in writing: whether it accepts private candidates for your exact syllabus code, which components of that code it can host, and what the published fee is per subject. Dubai carries most of the UAE centres that take private candidates; Al Ain, the northern emirates and the east coast carry fewer, so paper-day travel belongs in the plan from the start.

How many one-to-one hours does a one-grade resit usually need?+

It depends entirely on what the component marks show, and any provider who answers this before seeing them is guessing. As planning assumptions rather than measured outcomes: a single weak component inside an otherwise sound paper is usually sized at six to twelve hours, two or three weak topics at twelve to twenty, and a syllabus that was never securely taught at thirty or more, at which point repeating the year starts to compete on price. Those are the figures we use to size a block, reviewed at the midpoint against a marked paper. Nobody can promise a grade from any number of hours.

Is it cheaper to resit three subjects or to repeat the whole of Year 11?+

Three entries plus a shared block of hours is far cheaper than a year of school fees in almost every case, and in Dubai the fee side is unusually knowable: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27. The real question is not price but cause. Resits fix grades; a repeated year fixes an education, which is the right purchase for a student who arrived mid-curriculum, missed a long stretch, or sat the wrong tier throughout. Also weigh the twelve months, which appears on no fee schedule and is the largest cost in the comparison.

Will a November resit result arrive in time for a September university start?+

Usually, but check the admissions deadline rather than assuming. Pearson's International GCSE runs a November series, and its November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026; its November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. So an autumn resit grade becomes a document you can send in late January, which is comfortable for a September start and tight for anything earlier. Confirm the current dates on qualifications.pearson.com, because provisional timetables are revised, and tell the admissions office before you enter that a result is pending so the file is not closed in the meantime.

What does an IGCSE resit entry cost, and why is there no figure for it on this page?+

Because the amount is not ours to publish. The entry fee is set and published by the school making the re-entry or by the examination centre accepting the private candidate, and it varies by centre, by subject and by whether the entry is made before or after the board's final deadline. We would be inventing a number, and an invented number on a resit page is worse than none. Ask for the centre's published fee list in writing, ask whether it is charged per subject or per component, and ask for the late-entry scale that applies after the final entry date for your series.

Does a coursework mark from the first attempt carry forward to the second?+

Sometimes, and it is decided by the syllabus rather than by general policy. Certain syllabuses allow a previously awarded component or coursework mark to be carried into a later series under defined conditions; others require every component to be sat again. The exams officer at your school or centre can confirm the position for your syllabus code against the board's own published page. The answer changes the plan materially, because a carried mark removes a component from the revision timetable and reduces the hours needed. A carried mark also belongs to work already assessed, and is not something to be revisited or improved afterwards.

Our son was entered at Core tier and the grade still disappointed. What does a resit change?+

Possibly nothing, until the tier question is settled. The Core tier is examined on its own component set and its grade range is narrower at the top than the Extended tier's, so a student aiming above that ceiling cannot reach it on a Core entry however many hours are bought. Confirm the current grade range for your syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org, then ask the school or centre in writing which tier a re-entry would use. If the answer is Core again, the honest conversation is about what that grade can do for the next step rather than about tutoring.

How do we read the component marks on a statement of results?+

Start with the structure: the statement shows the overall grade plus a mark for each component the board set, identified by the syllabus code and a component or variant number. Compare the components against each other rather than against a pass mark. A strong multiple-choice mark beside a weak structured paper points at written answers under timing. A theory paper holding up beside a weak alternative-to-practical component points at a specific skill nobody taught explicitly. Then set the whole picture against the forecast grade the school submitted: a large gap between forecast and outcome moves the hours from content towards exam conditions.

Do UAE universities treat a resit grade differently from a first-attempt grade?+

Institutions set their own rules and they genuinely differ, so this is a question for the admissions office rather than for a tutoring site. Some consider the highest grade achieved, some ask to see every result, and some are concerned only that a stated threshold is met in named subjects. Ask directly, in writing, before you make the entry, and ask the same question of any sixth form or college involved. For Ministry of Education equivalency the published British-track rule is about grades and subject counts rather than attempts, but verify the current position on moe.gov.ae rather than relying on any third party.

Does a resit help or hurt a Ministry of Education equivalency file?+

For most families it is the thing that completes it. The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. A student sitting at four qualifying subjects needs one grade in one subject, which is the cheapest consequential resit in this market. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae; IB Gram performs no part of the equivalency process and tutoring is not required for it.

The resit window falls across Ramadan. How should the hours be arranged?+

Deliberately, at the diagnosis, rather than week by week once it starts. Shortened school days and later family evenings change when a sixty-minute session is actually productive, and for many UAE families a post-Iftar slot is the most useful of the day rather than a compromise. Because lessons run one-to-one over live video, moving a slot costs nobody a commute, and sessions can follow a family travelling between emirates or abroad mid-block. Decide at the start whether the Ramadan weeks drop in number of hours or simply shift in the day, and write that into the plan alongside the entry deadline.

Can one tutor handle resits in two different subjects for the same child?+

Sometimes, within a related pair such as two sciences or maths and physics, and it is worth asking because a single tutor sees the whole timetable and can move hours to whichever subject needs them. More often a second attempt is better served by two specialists, because the value on a resit lies in knowing one syllabus and one component deeply rather than covering a wide range adequately. Where two tutors are involved, ask for one shared plan with both entry deadlines on it, so the hours are allocated against the grades you actually need rather than split evenly out of fairness.

Nobody in the UAE covers the syllabus we need to resit. What happens then?+

You get told, before anything is paid for. Thin-supply subjects such as Computer Science 0478, unusual syllabus codes and very short windows are the cases where availability genuinely runs out, and the dishonest response is to substitute a generalist and hope. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, the alternatives are a specialist elsewhere teaching one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, a later series with more preparation time, or a frank conversation about whether the resit is the right route at all. No competitor page we measured in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere.

What does the free trial lesson cover before we commit to a block of resit hours?+

One free trial lesson per subject, with no payment details taken and nothing payable before or after it. The statement of results is open on screen, the student works a timed section of a real past paper, and the tutor watches how the work is produced rather than only what the answers say. The session ends with a written note naming the component the block should target, the hours it needs and what the midpoint review should show. You are free to stop there and use that note wherever you like, including with another provider.

Settle the entry deadline first, then buy the hours

A second attempt is won or lost on two dates and one document. The dates are the final entry deadline for the series you are aiming at and the day the result will reach you. The document is the statement of results already sitting in your email, with the component marks that say which paper actually failed. Get those three things in front of a specialist before anybody quotes you a rate. Book the free trial lesson in the subject being resat, ask for the plan in writing with the deadline at the top, and decide on the hours once you know what they have to change. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, anywhere in the UAE.
