Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

A Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450 tutor in Ras Al Khaimah is usually hired at one of three moments: a weak Year 10 report, a January mock that came back four marks short of the next grade, or six weeks before the paper. Each of those moments buys a different amount of time, so each needs a different plan. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free so you can test the match before committing a term to it.

  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 practised under real time limits, not open-book
  • Every answer marked against Cambridge command words and mark counts
  • Sessions timed to Ras Al Khaimah school hours, Sunday to Thursday
  • Free first lesson, no card details, no commitment to a block

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

Where your child is now, and how many weeks are left

Business Studies looks like the kind reward of a subject that a bright reader can pick up late. Parents in Ras Al Khaimah are often told exactly that by well-meaning relatives, and then watch a child who talks confidently about marketing score a 5 on a paper full of six-mark questions. The gap is not knowledge. It is that 0450 pays for applied, evaluated judgement about a named business in a case study, and a student who writes general truths about business gets the first mark of a six-mark question and none of the other five.

So the honest starting point is a calendar, not a sales pitch. If your child is in Year 10 term one, there are roughly sixty teaching weeks before a June paper and the whole syllabus is still ahead of you: the job is sequencing, note discipline and early practice on the financial topics that defeat students in Year 11. If your child is in Year 11 after January mocks, there are perhaps fourteen usable weeks, the syllabus has been covered once badly or well, and the job is triage - find the three topics bleeding the most marks and the one habit costing marks everywhere. If the exam is six weeks away, nobody should be teaching new content at all; the work is timed Paper 1 sections and two Paper 2 case studies a week, marked hard.

That difference matters more in the northern emirates than it does in Dubai. Ras Al Khaimah has a smaller private-school set, concentrated around Al Nakheel, Khuzam, Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab, and Business Studies is frequently taught by a teacher whose main subject is Economics or Accounting. The teaching is often sound and the marking is often generous, which is the worst combination for a parent trying to read a report: the grade on the sheet is a classroom grade, and the Cambridge paper is marked by someone who has never met your child and will not infer what they meant.

There is also a scarcity problem that nobody local can fix by trying harder. A Ras Al Khaimah IGCSE exam timeline runs to the same Cambridge dates as a Dubai one, but the pool of adults within a twenty-minute drive of Al Dhait who have marked 0450 scripts is small enough to count on one hand in a bad year. That is the real argument for remote one-to-one here, and it is not a cost argument. It is a match argument: a specialist who has taught the 0450 case study for nine sessions beats a generalist who is physically closer, every time.

Everything on this page is organised around that timeline. The syllabus in teaching order, the two papers and what each actually asks, the command words that decide whether a sentence scores, thirty-six weeks counted backwards from a June paper, the Cambridge entry admin that binds the dates, and the Ministry of Education equivalency rule that determines which five subjects have to land. Read the week count that matches your child and skip the rest.

At a glance

  • 0450 is a single-tier syllabus: no Core and Extended split, one route for every candidate
  • Paper 1 is short-answer and data response; Paper 2 is a case study issued in the exam
  • Both papers are 1 hour 30 minutes and 80 marks, and each carries half the grade
  • There is no coursework and no Internal Assessment to submit in Business Studies
  • Cambridge entry deadlines fall months before the paper, and the school controls them
  • Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time

Three routes put a fifteen-year-old in Ras Al Khaimah in front of a business syllabus, and they do not examine the same thing. Before paying for tuition, confirm from your child's timetable which code the school has entered them for, because a tutor teaching the wrong board wastes the weeks you are trying to buy back.

Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies

Six syllabus sections, two written papers, no coursework. Paper 1 mixes short definitions with data-response questions built on small stimulus items. Paper 2 is a case study of three or four pages about one named business, issued inside the exam room, with every question tied to that business. Marks are awarded across knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation, and the top band of every long question needs a judgement supported by evidence from the case.

This is the code most Ras Al Khaimah British-curriculum candidates sit, including students at the RAK Academy campuses and at city-side schools running Cambridge routes. Entries are made by the school as a Cambridge centre, and each centre sits in one of six Cambridge administrative zones, which decides the local start time of the paper. Ask the exams officer for your zone before you build a revision plan around a published timetable.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Business

The Edexcel alternative, examined by two papers covering business and the business environment. It shares most of the content with 0450 but asks for it differently: more calculation inside structured questions, a different balance of extended writing, and no separate case-study booklet in the Cambridge sense. A student moving between the two boards mid-course has to relearn how marks are earned rather than what the content is.

A minority of Ras Al Khaimah schools enter for Pearson rather than Cambridge, and a few enter different subjects with different boards in the same year. Pearson runs International GCSE series in May/June and November, publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, and released June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Confirm the board per subject from the statement of entry, not from the textbook on the desk.

IB Middle Years Programme

The MYP has no Business Studies subject. The nearest home is Individuals and Societies, assessed against four criteria rather than a mark scheme, with command terms that look similar to Cambridge ones and reward something different. MYP students who transfer into a Cambridge class in Year 10 usually write well-structured answers that score in the middle band because they argue a position without anchoring it to the stimulus.

RAK Academy's international school route runs IB programmes, so a Ras Al Khaimah family can genuinely face a choice between an MYP class and a Cambridge class inside the same city. If your child is crossing between them, the first three sessions of tutoring should be about mark-scheme behaviour and nothing else.

Cambridge International AS and A Level Business

The two-year continuation most 0450 students meet next. It adds strategy, quantitative decision-making and a much heavier evaluation demand, with AS papers that punish the descriptive writing style that still passes at IGCSE. The students who find the jump manageable are the ones who learned at 0450 to finish an answer with a supported recommendation rather than a list.

Because Ras Al Khaimah has fewer sixth-form options than Dubai, some families plan for a move to a Dubai or Sharjah campus at sixteen, and some plan for a UAE university entry straight from Year 13. Either route needs the Ministry of Education equivalency paperwork described further down this page, and that paperwork counts IGCSE subjects, so the grade your child earns in 0450 is still being read two years later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Business Studies is rarely tutored alone. These are the Cambridge codes most often sitting alongside 0450 on a Ras Al Khaimah statement of entry, with what each actually tests and the point where students start losing marks. Syllabus codes are listed because a tutor who asks for the code before the first session is a tutor who intends to teach the right paper.

Business Studies (0450)

Cambridge IGCSE

Six sections from business activity through to external influences. The marks live in application and evaluation: naming a business's own figures, then judging between two courses of action. Students who revise definitions and ignore the case study plateau at a grade C.

Economics (0455)

Cambridge IGCSE

Shares the market and government content with 0450 but examines diagrams. A student can describe a price change in words and still lose marks for an unlabelled axis or a shift drawn in the wrong direction. Diagram drill is the highest-yield hour in this subject.

Accounting (0452)

Cambridge IGCSE

Double entry, control accounts, and financial statements under time pressure. The failure mode is arithmetic under exam conditions rather than understanding; most lost marks are transfers of a correct figure into the wrong column or a missing closing balance.

Mathematics (0580)

Cambridge IGCSE, Core and Extended

The percentages, ratios and break-even arithmetic that 0450 assumes. A Business Studies candidate who cannot do reverse percentages quickly loses marks in both subjects, which is why these two are frequently timetabled with the same tutor.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken by stronger Extended candidates heading for A Level Maths or Economics. Relevant here because the students who sit it often under-prepare for Business Studies on the assumption that a wordy subject needs less practice than a numerate one.

English as a First Language (0500)

Cambridge IGCSE

Directed writing and reading response. The overlap with 0450 is concision: an examiner reading a six-mark answer is looking for two developed points, not a paragraph of context before the first one arrives.

English as a Second Language (0510)

Cambridge IGCSE

A large share of Ras Al Khaimah candidates sit this rather than First Language. Business Studies answers from strong 0510 students often fail on the verb in the question - explaining when asked to analyse - which is a command-word problem, not a language problem.

Information and Communication Technology (0417)

Cambridge IGCSE

Practical papers on spreadsheets, databases and document production. Shares the data-handling habits that Paper 1 data-response questions reward, and the practical component means timetable clashes in the exam fortnight that a revision plan has to allow for.

Computer Science (0478)

Cambridge IGCSE

Theory and programming across two written papers. Listed because Business Studies and Computer Science are a common pairing in Ras Al Khaimah option blocks, and both papers tend to fall in the same week of the June series.

Geography (0460)

Cambridge IGCSE

Case-study driven, like Paper 2 of Business Studies, and marked with the same expectation that evidence comes from the resource rather than from memory. Students who crack the skill in one subject usually transfer it to the other within a fortnight.

Global Perspectives (0457)

Cambridge IGCSE

Research, teamwork and an individual report. It is the one subject in this list with substantial coursework, which makes it the place where academic-honesty boundaries matter most, and those boundaries are set out further down this page.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of Cambridge 0450 online tuition, matched to the three moments on the timeline at the top of this page. The right one depends almost entirely on how many weeks are left, not on budget.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One sixty-minute session a week, running alongside school teaching from Year 10. The session stays two to three weeks behind the class so it consolidates rather than pre-teaches, and ends each half-term with one timed Paper 1 section. This is the version that makes the final six weeks calm instead of frantic.

  • Session notes sent after each lesson, naming the next week's target
  • One timed section marked to the published mark scheme per half-term
  • Financial topics front-loaded into Year 10 rather than left for Year 11

Twin sessions in the run-up to a paper

Two sessions a week across the eight to twelve weeks before the series. One is content repair on the three weakest syllabus sections, the other is pure examination practice: a Paper 1 section or a full Paper 2 case study, written under time, marked before the next session. Most Year 11 families start here after January mocks.

  • Diagnostic from the mock script, not from a general assessment
  • A fixed marking turnaround so the feedback lands while the attempt is fresh
  • Weekly mark trend shared with you, including the marks lost per objective

Case-study clinics in the final fortnight

Short, frequent sessions in the last two weeks: no new content, three to four case studies a week, and a single habit targeted at a time. Useful for November series Business Studies revision as well as June, when a student is retaking one subject while a new school year is already running.

  • Forty-five minute slots so they fit between other papers in the exam fortnight
  • Command-word drill: fifteen questions sorted by verb, answered in one sitting
  • A written one-page plan for the morning of the paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ras Al Khaimah

01

What a 0450 tutor can and cannot change in the time you have

The number of weeks remaining decides what is realistically on the table, and an honest tutor says so in the first conversation. With a full year, the content and the exam technique can both be rebuilt. With fourteen weeks, content repair has to be rationed to the two or three syllabus sections that are costing the most marks, and the rest of the time goes on how answers are written. With four weeks, nothing new gets learned well enough to be examined; the only remaining lever is making sure the knowledge already in the student's head reaches the page in the form the mark scheme rewards.

That last point is where most of the available gain sits anyway. In Business Studies, a student who knows the content and writes undirected answers typically leaves marks on every long question: the analysis mark for not developing a consequence, the evaluation mark for not choosing, the application marks for never mentioning the business by name. Those are mechanical faults with mechanical fixes, and they move faster than a missing understanding of cash-flow forecasting does.

The table below is the planning conversation written down. It is deliberately conservative, because the quickest way to waste a family's money is to start teaching new content in April. Nobody can promise a particular grade from a particular number of weeks, and anyone who offers that number before seeing a marked script is selling something other than teaching.

Read the row that matches your child, then look at the backwards calendar further down the page. The two together are the plan: the row tells you what the sessions are for, the calendar tells you what has to be finished by when.

The six syllabus sections of 0450, in the order a tutor should teach them

  • Section 1 Understanding business activity - classification, enterprise, objectives, growth
  • Section 2 People in business - motivation, organisation, recruitment, communication
  • Section 3 Marketing - research, the mix, segmentation, international marketing
  • Section 4 Operations management - production methods, scale, quality, location
  • Section 5 Financial information and decisions - cash flow, finance sources, statements, ratios
  • Section 6 External influences - government, economy, environment, ethics, trade

Cambridge organises 0450 into six sections, and the order they appear in the syllabus document is not the order that works best for a student who is behind. Section 1 covers business activity, enterprise, classification and growth. Section 2 is people in business: motivation, organisation, recruitment and communication. Section 3 is marketing, from market research through the marketing mix to strategy. Section 4 is operations management, including production methods, scale and quality. Section 5 is financial information and decisions - cash-flow forecasting, sources of finance, income statements and balance sheets, ratio work. Section 6 is external influences, covering government, the economy, environment, ethics and international trade.

The ordering problem is Section 5. It is the section students most often meet last, in Year 11, when time is short and confidence is already fragile, and it is the section where the marks are most mechanically winnable because the questions ask for calculations with a right answer. A plan built backwards therefore pulls finance forward: a Year 10 student who has drawn a cash-flow forecast six times by March is in a different position from one meeting it for the first time in November of Year 11.

Section 2 has the opposite property. Motivation and organisational structure read easily, generate confident classroom answers, and reward almost nothing extra for a fourth revision pass. It is the section students happily revise because it feels productive. A tutor's job on a tight timeline is to notice that and redirect the hour, which is a conversation worth having with your child rather than behind their back.

Section 6 is where Ras Al Khaimah candidates have an advantage worth using. External influences asks about exchange rates, trade, government intervention and ethics, and students here live inside a working example: a trade-dependent economy, a currency pegged to the dollar, free zones and a tourism build-out along Al Marjan Island. A case study about an exporter reads differently to a student who has watched cement and ceramics leave the local port.

03

Paper 1 and Paper 2: what each one actually asks for

Both 0450 papers last 1 hour 30 minutes, both carry 80 marks, and each is worth half the final grade. The symmetry hides a real difference in what they test. Paper 1 is a mix of short-answer questions and data-response items built on small stimulus pieces, so it rewards breadth: a student who knows all six sections shallowly can score respectably. Paper 2 is one case study, several pages long, handed out inside the exam room, and every question is about that business. It rewards discipline: reading the case properly, using its figures, and answering about that business rather than business in general.

That difference shows up in how students fail. Paper 1 failures are usually knowledge-shaped - a whole topic missing, or a definition confused with a neighbouring one. Paper 2 failures are usually behaviour-shaped: the student has the knowledge, spends too long reading, writes generically, never quotes a figure from the appendix, and finishes with a recommendation that is a summary rather than a decision. Business Studies Paper 1 short answer practice and Paper 2 case-study work are therefore different exercises, and a tutor who sets the same homework for both is not reading the problem.

The appendices in Paper 2 are the most under-used marks in the subject. They are there to be converted: a cash-flow extract exists so a candidate can calculate, comment and judge. Students treat them as decoration, mention them once, and lose the application marks that the examiner has already decided to give away. Marking three of your child's past attempts with a highlighter on every sentence that cites the case is often the single most persuasive thing a tutor does in the first month.

A note on marks and grades: 0450 is not tiered, so there is no Core and Extended ceiling to worry about as there is in Mathematics 0580 or the sciences. Every candidate sits the same two papers and the full grade range is available. That removes one decision from your planning and adds another - there is no easier route to retreat to if the year goes badly, which is an argument for diagnosing early.

The command words that decide whether a sentence scores

Every 0450 question opens with a verb, and the verb is a price list. Identify and state are worth a mark each and need nothing more than the correct noun. Explain requires a consequence: the point, then why it matters to this business. Analyse requires a chain - cause, effect, effect on the business - and a student who stops after one link gets half the available marks however well written the sentence is. Evaluate, justify and recommend require a choice, and a choice means rejecting the alternative out loud with a reason.

IGCSE Business Studies command words are the fastest-moving variable in the subject because they are mechanical. A student can be taught in two sessions to recognise the verb, allocate time by mark value, and write to a template per verb, and the improvement shows up on the next marked attempt. Content learning does not behave like this. That is why, on any timeline shorter than a term, command-word drill comes before topic revision.

The most expensive habit in the subject is answering a six-mark evaluate question with six marks' worth of knowledge. The student writes everything they know, feels they have earned it, and scores two: one for knowledge, one for a half-developed consequence, nothing for analysis they never completed and nothing for an evaluation they never attempted. Showing a student their own script with the marks annotated per sentence is uncomfortable and effective in roughly equal measure.

Practise this on old papers rather than on invented questions. Cambridge past papers and mark schemes are published through the school's exams officer and the official Cambridge site; a tutor should reference them and work from the school's copies rather than circulating files. The honest position is that we teach from the published mark scheme's criteria and never redistribute Cambridge material.

Thirty-six weeks counted backwards from a June paper

No competitor page in this market publishes a calendar, which is strange, because the calendar is the thing a parent is actually trying to build. The table below counts backwards from a June Business Studies paper for a Year 11 candidate in Ras Al Khaimah. Dates for the series itself come from the school's statement of entry and the official Cambridge timetable for your centre's zone; the week counts are a planning frame, not a Cambridge document.

Two things on it surprise families every year. The first is how early the final entry deadline falls: the school commits your child to subjects, boards and tiers months before the paper, and after that date a change is an administrative problem rather than a decision. The second is the mock window in January. Parents treat mocks as a progress report. On a backwards calendar they are a diagnostic instrument with a two-week shelf life - the script is worth more than the grade, and the script is what a tutor should be reading in the first session after it comes back.

The third of the three pressure points is Ramadan. The UAE academic calendar puts a shortened school day and a shifted family routine inside the revision run for a June series in some years, and plans built on 16:00 weekday sessions quietly fail. Families who move to post-Iftar slots for that period keep the continuity; families who pause for a month lose roughly a sixth of the available preparation and come back to a plan that no longer fits the weeks left.

Treat the table as a checklist you can hold a tutor to. If a tutor cannot tell you what should be finished by week twelve, they are teaching lessons rather than running a plan, and on a timeline-led page that is the distinction worth paying for.

Cambridge series, entry deadlines and the zone rule that binds your dates

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Which series your child sits is a school decision, made as a Cambridge centre, and it is made early. Entries are the hinge of the whole plan: a revision schedule aimed at the wrong series is wasted work, and a family that assumes June when the school has entered November loses a term of urgency it will not recover.

The administrative detail families most often miss is zoning. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For a Ras Al Khaimah parent that means a timetable downloaded from a search result is not evidence of anything. Ask the exams officer which zone the centre sits in and work from that version.

A worked example of how far ahead entries fall, without borrowing a series your child cannot sit. For the June series the papers run from May into June, the final entry closes in the spring some four months earlier, and forecast grades are due to Cambridge weeks before the first paper. For the November series the entry closes over the summer and the papers run in October and November. Cambridge's February and March sitting, which a search result will happily hand you, is offered in India only, so a RAK family working to those dates is working to another country's calendar. The exact day in each case sits on the statement of entry the centre issues, which is the document to ask for rather than a figure restated on a tutoring page. The shape is the point: the deadline that decides what your child sits lands months, not weeks, before the first paper.

Pearson candidates work to a parallel but separate calendar. International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year, the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the right habit is to link the live official timetable rather than trusting a date copied onto a tutoring page, including this one.

Does Business Studies count towards UAE equivalency?

For a British-track student, the Ministry of Education equivalency rule is specific and worth knowing before Year 10 option blocks are chosen. Students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

Business Studies is an accredited IGCSE subject and can sit inside that count of five. What the rule does not do is rank subjects, so a family worrying about whether Business Studies is respected has the wrong question; the questions that matter are whether the certificate is from an accredited board and whether the grade clears the floor. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a requirement of six IGCSE subjects for UAE candidates. Five is the figure in the sourced reporting, and a family planning around six is budgeting for an exam it may not need.

Equivalency is a Ministry process, not a tutoring product. IB Gram does not perform, submit or expedite it, and no tutoring purchase makes it faster. Verify current requirements on the Ministry of Education's own channels or with the emirate attestation authority before relying on any figure, including the ones quoted here, and keep in mind that the American-track requirements are different again - English through a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and at least 450 in SAT Mathematics.

There is no published IB points threshold in the sourced material, so this page does not state one. If a tutoring site quotes you an IB equivalency score without pointing at a Ministry page, treat the number as decoration.

08

Finding a 0450 specialist when the local pool is small

Private education in Ras Al Khaimah is regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a broader remit than inspection alone, and it is why RAK Department of Knowledge private schools can differ from Dubai schools in fee structure and in approved programme mix even when both sit Cambridge papers.

What the regulator cannot do is manufacture subject specialists. Across the northern emirates the realistic supply of adults who have taught 0450 to examination for several years is thin, and thinner again in a specific subject-and-year combination. Postcode matching therefore fails here in a way it does not fail in Dubai: insisting on someone who lives nearby narrows an already narrow pool to whoever is available, which is how a family ends up paying specialist rates for a generalist with a textbook.

IB Gram's answer is to drop the distance constraint rather than the specialism. Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard for cash-flow tables and screen sharing for marked scripts. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE - home visits are a service we run only in India - so the comparison a parent should make is not online against our own in-home option, but a subject specialist on video against a nearby generalist in the room.

On permits, the position is worth stating plainly because it is a live compliance question in the UAE. Individuals providing private lessons need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023; it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and MoHRE publishes the application route as 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' through its smart app, website and e-services system. Academic honesty, past papers and what a tutor may hand over

Business Studies 0450 has no coursework, which removes the most common academic-honesty trap in the IGCSE suite. It does not remove the question entirely, because families often tutor Global Perspectives 0457 or an IB Middle Years project alongside it, and because the habits a student learns in a Business Studies session carry into subjects where work is submitted.

The boundary is simple to state. A tutor teaches, questions, models an answer to a different question, and gives feedback on the student's own attempt. A tutor does not supply finished answers for submission, does not edit a submitted piece into shape line by line, and does not sell assessed work. One operator in this market openly sells completed Internal Assessments; under IB and Cambridge regulations that is malpractice, and the exposure falls on the student, whose certificate is at risk, not on the seller.

The same restraint applies to material. Syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, and the right behaviour is to reference and link them rather than host or redistribute copies. A session can work through a paper your school has provided; it should not be a file-sharing service. If a tutoring site offers you a download pack of mark schemes, that is a copyright problem advertising itself.

The practical version for a Ras Al Khaimah parent: expect written feedback on your child's own scripts, expect a tutor to be able to quote the criteria a mark scheme uses, and treat any offer to produce finished written work as a reason to end the conversation. On a timeline-led plan this matters more than it sounds, because the fastest route to a wasted year is a student who reaches May having submitted work they cannot reproduce under exam conditions.

What Cambridge 0450 tuition costs around Ras Al Khaimah

Market rates are publishable, and almost nobody in this search result publishes them. The figures below are other providers' published rates, with the tier they sit in, so you can see where a quote falls rather than whether it feels expensive. They are market context and not an IB Gram price list; our own position is a free first lesson and a consultation that quotes against the plan your child actually needs.

Two structural things drive the spread. The first is travel: a visiting tutor is paid for the hour plus the journey, and in a spread-out emirate like Ras Al Khaimah the journey can be a third of the booking. The second is specialism. A graduate who can keep a Year 10 moving through Section 2 and a teacher who can mark a Paper 2 case study to the published criteria are different products at different prices, and the gap widens in the exam year because the second one is scarce.

On a timeline view, the cheapest effective purchase is almost always early and small - one weekly hour in Year 10 - and the most expensive is late and large: four sessions a week in April, which buys technique and cannot buy content. Families who start after mocks should budget for twin sessions across twelve to fourteen weeks rather than a single weekly hour, because once the weeks are short, frequency is the only variable left to pull.

Monthly package shapes seen in the market include online blocks around AED 799 a month for eight sessions and in-home blocks around AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah is spread out, and where a family lives changes what the school day looks like and therefore when a session can start. These notes are about timing and travel, because on a timeline-led plan the realistic start time of a Tuesday session is the thing that decides whether forty weeks of tutoring actually happen.

Al Nakheel

The city-side centre, closest to the older school campuses. Short school runs mean a child is home by around half past two, so a 15:30 start is realistic even in exam term.

Al Hamra and Al Hamra Village

An Al Hamra IGCSE tutor slot usually works best at 16:00 or later, because the southern coastal campuses finish later and the drive back along the E11 adds a buffer at the end of the school day.

Mina Al Arab

A Mina Al Arab IGCSE Business Studies session tends to be booked twice weekly in Year 11 rather than once, since families here often combine it with sport that occupies two weekday evenings.

Al Dhait North and South

Residential, with children spread across several city campuses. Parents here more often ask for a single fixed weekly slot that survives a term, rather than a flexible booking that quietly erodes.

Khuzam

Close to British-curriculum provision and to the ring road. A 15:00 start works for Year 10; by Year 11 most families move the slot later to protect a homework hour before it.

Al Uraibi and Al Mairid

Older established neighbourhoods on the city side where Indian-curriculum and Cambridge candidates sit side by side in the same building. Sunday evening is the most requested slot for mock-season triage.

Al Marjan Island

Newer housing with longer runs to any campus. Early-evening sessions after 17:00 are the norm, which suits Paper 2 case-study work better than a tired mid-afternoon hour anyway.

Al Rams and the northern strip

Long commutes in both directions and the thinnest local pool of subject specialists in the emirate. This is where one-to-one Business Studies tuition online stops being a convenience and starts being the only version available.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ras Al Khaimah

Southern coast and British provision

The campuses running Cambridge examined routes near Al Hamra and Khuzam. Students we support attend these schools; the point of naming them is that their term dates and mock windows differ by up to three weeks, which changes when a revision plan should start.

  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam
  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK English Speaking School

City-side campuses

Al Nakheel, Khuzam and Al Uraibi schools, several of which run Indian-curriculum classes alongside Cambridge entries. Families here often discover in Year 10 that the school enters Business Studies with one board and a sibling's subject with another.

  • The Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School Ras Al Khaimah

Campuses Ras Al Khaimah families also consider

Where a northern-emirates family looks when a subject combination is not available locally, usually at sixteen rather than fourteen. Worth knowing before Year 10 option blocks are chosen, because a mid-course board change costs a term.

  • Ajman Academy
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • Wesgreen International School, Sharjah

Named schools are listed as context for the local examination ecosystem; IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the week count, not just the subject

The first message that helps is short: year group, series the school has entered for, the last mock or report grade, and the date of the paper if you know it. That is enough to say which of the three plans applies and whether weekly or twin sessions make sense.

  2. 02

A free first lesson used as a diagnostic

The trial is a working session, not a sales call. The tutor sets two past questions - one data response, one six-mark evaluate - marks them live, and names which assessment objective is losing the marks. You get that assessment in writing whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

A written plan with dates on it

After the trial you receive a plan mapped to the weeks remaining: which syllabus sections get rebuilt, when the first timed paper lands, and what should be finished before the January mock or before study leave. It is a document you can hold the tutor to.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marking between them

Sessions run on a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, Sunday to Thursday or at the weekend. Work set in one session is marked before the next, with the marks broken down by objective so you can see whether the loss is knowledge, application, analysis or evaluation.

  5. 05

A re-plan at each pressure point

The plan is revisited after mocks, at the start of Ramadan if it falls in the revision run, and six weeks out. Each review can reduce frequency as well as increase it; a student who is on track in April does not need four sessions a week, and we will say so.

  6. 06

Change the tutor without losing the plan

If the match is wrong, say so after the second session. The diagnostic, the plan and the marked scripts move to a different tutor so the new person starts from your child's actual position rather than from a blank page.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan is built from a date, not a package

Most tutoring is sold in blocks of hours. A Business Studies plan starts from the week count to the paper and works backwards, which is why the first thing we ask for is the series your school has entered rather than how many hours you want to buy.

Marking against the published criteria, every week

Answers are marked the way a Cambridge examiner marks: by objective, with the missing link named. A parent gets a weekly picture of where the marks went rather than a sentence saying the session went well.

Specialism instead of proximity

Dropping the distance requirement widens the pool from whoever is free in Ras Al Khaimah to a teacher who has taught 0450 repeatedly. Lessons run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the gain in match quality costs nothing in convenience.

Figures that carry their source

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider who published it, and every regulatory statement to u.ae, KHDA, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson. Nothing here is a statistic we invented about ourselves.

Honest limits on what weeks can buy

We will tell you when a request is unrealistic - new content four weeks out, or eight subjects tutored at once - and what to spend the money on instead. No tutor can promise a grade, and the ones who do are describing something other than teaching.

Clear boundaries on assessed work

Teaching, questioning and feedback on your child's own attempts. Never finished answers for submission, never redistributed Cambridge papers, and no pretence that a tutoring purchase affects a Ministry equivalency decision.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

How many weeks before the June series should 0450 tutoring start?+

If you want content and technique both rebuilt, start thirty weeks out, at the beginning of Year 11, with one weekly hour. If the aim is to convert a mock grade into a better final grade, twelve to sixteen weeks of twin sessions after January mocks is the realistic window. Under six weeks, the honest plan is examination technique only: command-word drill, timing and two case studies a week. Starting late is not pointless, but it changes what you are buying, and a tutor who promises the same outcome from six weeks as from thirty is not reading your calendar.

What is actually on Paper 1 and Paper 2 of Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies 0450?+

Paper 1 is short-answer and data-response questions drawn from all six syllabus sections, 1 hour 30 minutes, 80 marks, half the grade. Paper 2 is a case study about one named business, handed out inside the exam room, also 1 hour 30 minutes and 80 marks for the other half. Paper 1 rewards breadth of knowledge; Paper 2 rewards reading the case properly, using figures from its appendices, and finishing long answers with a supported decision. Confirm the current structure for your child's syllabus year with the school's exams officer, since Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle.

Is Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies split into Core and Extended tiers?+

No. Unlike Mathematics 0580 or the sciences, Business Studies 0450 is a single-tier syllabus: every candidate sits the same two papers and the whole grade range is available to all of them. That simplifies entry decisions and removes the tiering conversation families have about Maths. It also removes a safety net, because there is no easier paper to move down to if the year goes badly. The practical consequence is that diagnosing a problem early matters more in this subject than in a tiered one, since the only available lever later is preparation rather than entry.

My son sits Business Studies next June and it is already late October. Is that too late?+

No, but it changes the shape of the work. You have roughly thirty weeks, which is enough to revise all six sections twice, sit a mock in January, triage the weak sections in spring and still arrive at study leave with technique trained. What it is not enough for is a comfortable pace alongside two other subjects started at the same time. Pick the subject that is costing the most marks, start there with one weekly hour, and add a second subject only when the first shows a stable mark trend across three marked attempts.

Does 0450 have any coursework or an assessment to submit?+

No. Business Studies is examined entirely by the two written papers, with no coursework component and nothing to submit through the school. Families sometimes budget tutoring time for a project that does not exist in this subject, usually after confusing it with Global Perspectives 0457, which does carry an individual report, or with an IB Middle Years project. If your child's school mentions a Business Studies assignment, it is almost certainly internal school assessment rather than a Cambridge component, and it will not count towards the certificate grade.

Why does my daughter write long answers and still score two marks out of six?+

Because length is not what the mark scheme pays for. A six-mark question in 0450 usually wants a developed chain of reasoning and then a judgement that rejects the alternative. A student who writes everything they know earns the knowledge mark, perhaps one development mark, and nothing for analysis they never completed or evaluation they never attempted. The fix is mechanical and fast: identify the verb, allocate time by mark value, and write to a template per command word. Most students show a visible change on their next marked attempt within two or three sessions.

Which part of the 0450 syllabus costs Ras Al Khaimah students the most marks?+

Section 5, financial information and decisions, in most cases. It arrives late in the course, it is the least forgiving under time pressure, and it is where a correct method still loses marks for a missing unit or an untransferred figure. Section 6, external influences, runs second, usually because students treat exchange rates and government intervention as general knowledge rather than applying them to the business in front of them. Section 2, people in business, is the one students over-revise because it feels productive and rewards a fourth pass with almost nothing.

Does Business Studies count among the five subjects the UAE equivalency rule requires?+

Yes. The sourced British-track rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. Business Studies is an accredited IGCSE subject and can sit inside that count. One ranking competitor states six subjects are required; five is the figure in the sourced reporting. Verify current requirements with the Ministry of Education or the emirate attestation authority before planning around any number.

Can a tutor in Ras Al Khaimah teach my child the Paper 2 case study in advance?+

No, and anyone offering to is describing something that does not exist. In 0450 the case study is seen for the first time inside the exam room; there is no pre-release booklet for this syllabus. What a tutor can do is practise the skill the case study tests: reading three pages quickly, mapping each question to the relevant appendix, quoting the business's own figures, and finishing with a decision. Students who have worked through twelve old case studies under time walk into an unseen one with a routine, which is the only legitimate form of advance preparation available.

What does Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies tutoring cost around Ras Al Khaimah?+

Market rates published by other providers run roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour for budget online help, AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to AED 500 for a visiting in-home tutor once travel is included, and AED 200 to AED 450 or more for examination-year specialists. Those are their figures, not ours. The spread is driven by travel time and by whether the tutor can mark a Paper 2 answer against published criteria. IB Gram's first lesson is free, and we quote against the plan your child needs rather than selling a fixed block.

My child's school has entered the November series rather than June. Does the plan change?+

Yes, and mostly for the better if you plan early. Cambridge runs IGCSE examinations in both a June and a November series, so a November candidate gets the long summer inside the preparation window rather than outside it. The risk is that a new school year starts in September while the paper sits in November, so the student is revising one syllabus while a timetable pushes another. Twin sessions from late August, tapering to short clinics in the exam fortnight, handles that better than a steady weekly hour. Confirm the series on the statement of entry.

Do we need a Business Studies tutor who actually lives in Ras Al Khaimah?+

Not for this subject. The pool of adults within a short drive of Al Nakheel or Al Dhait who have taught 0450 to examination repeatedly is small, and insisting on proximity narrows it to whoever happens to be free. Dropping the distance requirement widens it to teachers who have marked the case study many times. IB Gram delivers lessons one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time; we do not offer home visits in the UAE, since that is a service we run only in India. The comparison to make is specialist on video against generalist in the room.

How do online Business Studies lessons handle cash-flow tables and calculations?+

With a shared whiteboard and screen sharing, which suits this subject better than it suits a practical science. A cash-flow forecast is built cell by cell on screen with the student driving, so the tutor sees the order the numbers go in rather than only the final answer. Marked scripts are shared on screen and annotated live. Students photograph handwritten attempts and send them before the session, which is how the marking turnaround stays inside a week. The one thing to arrange is a quiet room and a device with a keyboard rather than a phone.

What should the first session cover if the mock is three weeks away?+

Command words and timing, not content. Three weeks before a mock, the highest-yield hour is sorting fifteen past questions by verb, writing the opening two sentences of each, and learning to allocate minutes by mark value. The second hour should be a full timed Paper 1 section, marked hard. Content repair starts after the mock, because the mock script tells you which sections to repair and guessing before it wastes the one diagnostic you get for free. Bring the previous report and any marked work to the first session.

Does Ramadan interrupt a Business Studies revision plan in the northern emirates?+

It changes the timetable rather than stopping it, provided you plan for it. School days shorten, family routines shift, and plans built on a 16:00 weekday slot quietly stop happening. Families who move to post-Iftar sessions keep continuity through the period; families who pause for a month lose roughly a sixth of the preparation window and return to a plan that no longer fits the weeks remaining. Decide which it will be before the month starts, and tell the tutor early enough that the slot is still available when you want it back.

Who regulates private schools in Ras Al Khaimah, and does it affect tutoring?+

The emirate's Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and, like Sharjah's authority, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. It is a broader remit than inspection alone. For tutoring, the regulator that matters more is MoHRE: individuals giving private lessons need the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and those tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask any tutor for their permit; it is a reasonable question and a quick one to answer.
