Best IGCSE Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

There is no register of the best IGCSE tutor in Ras Al Khaimah, so this page hands you the test rather than the claim. It sets out what a strong Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel teacher can show you inside ten minutes, what the three alternatives a northern-emirates family usually weighs really cost, and where each one falls short. Lessons arranged through IB Gram are one-to-one and delivered live online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, so your child's subject specialist is not limited to whoever happens to drive to Al Nakheel on a Tuesday evening.

  • Syllabus code named and confirmed before any lesson is booked
  • Sessions scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the local school day
  • Market AED rates published on this page with the source and the month
  • Coursework support is feedback on the student's own work, never a draft

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

Nobody can hand you a ranked list, so here is the test instead

The phrase assumes a league table exists. It does not. The RAK Department of Knowledge publishes judgements on schools, not on tutors. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit, which establishes that someone may legally teach for money and says nothing about whether they can teach Extended-tier chemistry. No UAE body ranks individual tutors, and every site that claims to rank them is ranking its own customers. So a parent is left to build the judgement from evidence, in one conversation, before any money changes hands. That is what the rest of this page is for.

The evidence is narrower than most parents expect, and it is checkable. A strong International GCSE tutor can tell you the syllabus code your child is entered for, how many papers that code involves, which tier the entry sits at, and what the last marked script says about where the marks went. A weak one talks about rapport, confidence and experience, and cannot name a paper. That gap shows up inside the first ten minutes and it is the most reliable signal available to someone who does not teach the subject themselves.

Geography makes the question sharper here than it would be in Dubai. Ras Al Khaimah's private school set is small, and the emirate's subject cohorts are smaller still. A Year 11 group sitting Extended-tier Physics may number a dozen students, taught by one teacher who also covers Chemistry and Biology. Dubai, by contrast, enrolled 387,441 private school students across 227 schools in 2024-25 and licensed 17 separate curricula, which is why its tutor market is deep and the northern emirates' is thin. Hiring on the basis of proximity in Al Nakheel or Al Dhait usually means hiring a generalist.

Most families here are quietly choosing between four things rather than searching for one: a tuition centre in the city, an independent tutor who will drive to the address, an agency in Sharjah or Dubai whose tutors would have to make the same drive, and a specialist reached over live video. Those options differ on price, on travel, on the size of the pool they draw from, and on whether the person teaching has ever marked the paper in question. The table in the second section sets the four side by side with published rates and the month they were published.

IB Gram arranges one-to-one tuition delivered live online, over video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Ras Al Khaimah address; visiting tuition is a service offered only in India. That is stated plainly because the alternative is a page that lets a parent assume otherwise. What online delivery buys in this emirate is specific: the pool stops being people within a thirty-minute drive of Al Nakheel and starts being people who teach 0580, 0620 or 4MA1 for a living. On a narrow Extended-tier subject, that is the whole difference.

At a glance

  • No UAE authority ranks private tutors; the RAK Department of Knowledge rates schools
  • Ask for the syllabus code first: 0580 and 4MA1 are different papers, not the same subject
  • Market rates for qualified online tutors ran AED 150-300 per hour in October 2026
  • A private tuition work permit is free of charge for two years and issued through MoHRE
  • Core-tier IGCSE maths caps the attainable grade; the tier is set at entry, not at the exam
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Ras Al Khaimah families arrive at this search from three directions: an International GCSE year group heading for the June series, a Middle Years Programme cohort choosing options, and students who will carry IGCSE grades into a Diploma or A-level sixth form. The programmes below are the ones that actually appear in this emirate's schools.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The qualification most British-curriculum schools in the emirate enter. Each subject carries its own four-digit syllabus code, and the code governs the papers, the tier and the practical arrangements. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, with centres allocated to one of six administrative zones; the zone decides which version of the timetable applies, and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who sit the wrong one.

Because Ras Al Khaimah schools are supervised by the emirate's Department of Knowledge rather than by KHDA or ADEK, parents here will not find a Dubai-style public inspection dashboard. Ask the school directly for the syllabus codes on the entry list and for the zone its exam centre falls into, because both affect what a tutor should be preparing your child for.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board in regular use locally, with codes in the 4xx1 family: 4MA1 for mathematics, 4CH1 for chemistry, 4PH1 for physics. Pearson examines in a May or June window and again in November, and publishes provisional timetables for future series well ahead of each one. Some Pearson subjects are modular in structure, which changes how a revision plan should be sequenced across two years.

A Ras Al Khaimah family with children at two different schools can easily have one child on Cambridge and one on Pearson, sitting what looks like the same subject. The November Pearson window matters here in particular: it gives a student who underperformed in June a second attempt inside the same academic year, without repeating Year 11 or changing school.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Taught at the emirate's IB continuum campuses on the southern coast. The MYP is assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, and reported on a 1-7 scale that does not map neatly onto IGCSE grades. Students moving from the MYP into an IGCSE year group, or into the Diploma, meet a different assessment language rather than harder content.

Families comparing an MYP campus near Al Hamra with an IGCSE school on the city side are comparing two assessment systems, not two quality levels. If a transfer is on the table, the useful question is which subjects your child would be entered for at the receiving school and at which tier, since that decides whether any catching up is content or technique.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The sixth-form route many strong IGCSE students take next, either locally or in Sharjah and Dubai. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. IGCSE performance matters to it directly: Extended-tier mathematics and triple science are the usual expectation for Higher Level maths and sciences, and a Core-tier maths grade generally closes the Analysis and Approaches route.

This is the main reason tier choice in Year 10 deserves attention in Ras Al Khaimah specifically. Local Diploma provision is concentrated in a small number of campuses, so a student who leaves IGCSE without the prerequisites for Higher Level maths may find the nearest alternative subject combination is in another emirate rather than down the road.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the International GCSE subjects Ras Al Khaimah families ask about most, with the codes a tutor should be able to name without looking them up. Where Cambridge and Pearson differ in structure, the difference is stated rather than smoothed over.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended tier

The tier decision dominates everything else. Cambridge 0580 Core caps the grade available; Extended carries the algebra, functions and trigonometry that a Higher Level maths course later assumes. Marks are lost most often in multi-step algebraic manipulation and in unstructured problem questions where no method is written down.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Extended candidates only

Taken alongside 0580 by students aiming at Higher Level maths or engineering. It front-loads calculus, series and advanced trigonometry a year early. Students who cope with 0580 but struggle here are usually short on algebraic fluency rather than on understanding, which is a tractable gap.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended tier

Moles and stoichiometry decide the grade more than any other topic, and organic chemistry decides the top band. Extended-tier papers reward precise use of command terms: describe, explain and deduce are marked differently, and treating them as synonyms is the most common avoidable loss.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended tier

Electricity and waves produce the steepest drops locally. The practical component is assessed through written papers rather than a live practical in most centres, which means students must be fluent in describing apparatus, variables and sources of error in words they have rarely practised.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended tier

Content-heavy and deceptively easy to revise badly. Students reread notes and score the same mark twice. Gains come from converting recall into the extended-response structure the paper wants, and from the data-handling questions where graph reading beats memorisation.

English Language (0500 / 0990)

First language

Directed writing and the summary question carry weight out of proportion to the time students spend on them. Marks go missing in reading-for-purpose tasks, where candidates paraphrase the passage instead of selecting and compressing it against the question's stated audience and form.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended tier

Common across the emirate's Indian-curriculum and bilingual intakes. The listening and speaking components are scheduled separately from the written papers, and families regularly discover the dates late. Preparation is technique-led rather than content-led.

Economics (0455) and Business Studies (0450)

IGCSE

Popular option choices that reward diagram accuracy and evaluation structure. The data-response questions are where grades separate: a candidate who can read a table and quantify a change outperforms one who has memorised definitions, every time.

Computer Science (0478)

IGCSE

Pseudocode and trace tables are the recurring stumbling block, not programming ability. Students who code confidently in a language still lose marks writing algorithms in the board's own notation, which is a specific and quickly fixable deficit.

Arabic as a First Language and Arabic as an Additional Language

Ministry-required study

Required study alongside the licensed international curriculum, with first-language and additional-language streams taught separately. Federal rules place Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies outside a school's curriculum discretion, so this runs in parallel with IGCSE whatever board the school uses.

Islamic Education

Arab and non-Arab streams

Delivered in separate classes by group, with the language of instruction differing between streams. Support here is about assessment language and written structure rather than content substitution, since using different or additional material without ministry permission is not permitted.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working cover almost every request that comes in from this emirate. Each is one-to-one and delivered live online, and each is priced by the hour rather than bundled into a term commitment a family cannot leave.

Weekly one-to-one on a named syllabus code

A standing slot against one subject and one code, working through the specification in the order the school is teaching it rather than in textbook order. The first session reads the last two marked scripts and sets a topic sequence from what they show.

  • Fixed weekday slot in Gulf Standard Time, agreed around the school day
  • Session notes and annotated work the student keeps after each lesson
  • Topic sequence rebuilt when a school changes its teaching order
  • One subject per slot, so a session is never split across three sciences

Exam-term block built from the mock script

A short, dense block in the weeks after mocks, aimed at the specific papers where marks were lost. Content teaching stops; the work is timed questions, mark scheme reading and command-term precision. Useful when a family wants a defined commitment rather than an open-ended arrangement.

  • Diagnosis from the actual mock paper, not from the reported grade
  • Timed sections under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme
  • Priority given to papers with the largest recoverable mark total
  • Ends on a stated date, with no rolling renewal

Tier and option-choice consultation

A single session for families deciding between Core and Extended entry, between two boards, or between IGCSE options with a sixth-form route in mind. The output is a written summary of what each choice keeps open and what it closes, with the relevant codes named.

  • Core versus Extended entry and what each implies for grades available
  • Subject combinations that preserve Higher Level maths and science routes
  • What the school needs to confirm, and by when, for an entry change
  • No lesson commitment attached to the consultation

01

What this search can return, and what it cannot

  • No UAE regulator rates individual tutors; school inspection is a separate system
  • A MoHRE permit answers legality, not competence
  • Four checkable things: code, papers, tier, and the last marked script
  • Reputation claims on a website are the thing you came here to get past

A search for the best IGCSE tutor in Ras Al Khaimah returns advertising. That is not a complaint about the advertisers; it is a structural fact. There is no authority in the UAE that assesses individual tutors and publishes the result. The RAK Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for schools. Its remit is institutional. A tutor working from their own home with four students is outside it entirely.

MoHRE sits closer to the question but answers a different one. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. It establishes legality. It is not a competence test, and it does not distinguish between a chemistry teacher of fifteen years and a first-year undergraduate.

So the word in the search has to be replaced with something testable. For an International GCSE subject, four pieces of evidence do almost all the work: the syllabus code your child is entered for, the number and structure of the papers under that code, the tier the entry sits at, and a reading of the last marked script that identifies where marks went rather than how many were lost. A tutor who can produce all four in a first conversation is demonstrating subject knowledge in the only form a non-specialist parent can verify. One who cannot is asking to be trusted on reputation, which is exactly what a search result already offered.

02

The four options a Ras Al Khaimah family is really choosing between

Almost nobody arrives at this search with a blank slate. There is usually a tuition centre someone has recommended in Al Nakheel, a neighbour's tutor who drives over on Saturdays, an agency in Sharjah or Dubai that answered an enquiry, and the possibility of teaching over video. Those four are different products. They differ on hourly price, on how much of that price is travel, on how large a pool the tutor is drawn from, and on whether the person teaching has marked the paper your child will sit.

The pool size is the variable that matters most in this emirate and the one least often discussed. A visiting arrangement draws from people who live within a reasonable drive of your address. On the northern strip or on Al Marjan Island, that is a short list in any subject and frequently an empty one in Extended-tier physics or Additional Mathematics. A tuition centre draws from its own staff, who are typically generalists covering a phase rather than specialists covering a code. Online delivery draws from everyone who teaches the code, wherever they are, which is why it is the answer to subject scarcity rather than to cost.

Price moves in the opposite direction to convenience. Published market figures put visiting one-to-one tuition in the UAE at AED 180-500 per hour with travel inside the fee, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The centre looks cheapest per hour until the ratio is counted: a group of eight in a revision class is not one-to-one teaching priced lower, it is a different service. The table sets the four options against each other on the terms a parent actually decides on.

03

Ten minutes of questions that separate a specialist from a confident generalist

This is the part a parent can do without knowing the subject. The questions below are not a quiz about chemistry; they are about whether the person in front of you works at the level of the paper. A tutor who teaches a code regularly answers them flatly and quickly, the way a mechanic names a part. One who does not will generalise, and the generalisation is the signal.

Run the conversation before any trial session, not after. A trial lesson is a poor filter on its own, because a warm, organised adult who is pleasant with teenagers looks identical in forty-five minutes to a subject specialist. What separates them is whether the plan after the session names topics and papers or names attitudes. Ask for that plan in writing, however short, and read it for specifics.

Pay particular attention to the answer about the marked script. A tutor who asks to see the last two marked pieces before quoting a plan is working from evidence. A tutor who proposes a programme before seeing any of your child's work is selling a programme. The second is not dishonest, but it cannot be targeted, and targeting is the entire economic case for one-to-one teaching over a revision class that costs a fraction as much per head.

Two answers are worth weighing more heavily than the rest. The first is the one about coursework, because it is the only question on the list where the correct answer is a refusal, and a tutor who hedges there has told you how they will behave in an internal assessment week. The second is the exit question. A family that has paid a term's fees up front has lost the ability to change a decision cheaply, which is the main protection a parent has when a match turns out to be wrong. Neither answer requires you to know any chemistry.

Syllabus codes: the fastest filter available to a parent

Subject names are almost useless as a specification. Two students in Al Dhait can both be doing IGCSE chemistry and be sitting different numbers of papers, different practical arrangements and different grading structures, because one school entered Cambridge 0620 and the other entered Pearson 4CH1. A tutor who works at code level knows this without being told. A tutor who works at subject level will teach the overlap and discover the difference in April.

Getting the codes takes one email to the school office or one look at the exam entry statement, and it is the highest-value ten minutes available to a parent in Year 10. The codes also resolve a second question that causes real confusion locally: whether a child can sit a subject the school does not teach. Entry as a private candidate is possible through a registered exam centre, but the centre, the zone and the entry deadline all follow from the code, and the deadlines sit months before the papers.

Cambridge publishes its key dates series by series, and for a UAE candidate the series are June and November - the extra February and March sitting in those documents is offered to centres in India only. Read a June series in order and the sequence is: final entries in the spring, roughly four months before the first paper and on a date the centre prints on the statement of entry; forecast grades on Cambridge's published deadline for that series, close to the window; papers in June on the timetable for the centre's administrative zone; results on Cambridge International Direct in August; certificates later in the year. November shifts the same sequence earlier at the entry end and later at the results end. Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are the published figures to plan against; always open the board's live timetable rather than relying on a restatement, including this one.

05

Core and Extended, and the grade ceiling nobody mentions at parents' evening

The tier decision is the one place where a quiet administrative choice sets a hard limit on an outcome. Core-tier entry in Cambridge mathematics restricts the grades available; Extended-tier entry opens the full range and assumes more algebra, more trigonometry and more problem-solving under time pressure. Pearson structures the same decision as Foundation and Higher. The school makes the entry, often sensibly, on the basis of how a student is performing in Year 10. Parents frequently do not realise a decision has been made at all.

It matters beyond the grade on the certificate. Core-tier mathematics generally closes the route into Higher Level Analysis and Approaches in the Diploma, and makes an A-level mathematics course difficult to start. In an emirate where sixth-form options are concentrated in a handful of campuses, closing a route is more consequential than it would be in Dubai, because the alternative is not a different school ten minutes away. A student who wanted engineering and discovers in Year 12 that the maths prerequisite is missing has a problem that is expensive to solve.

The practical consequence for tutoring is about timing rather than intensity. A student who is borderline between tiers in the first term of Year 10 has a real window: the algebraic fluency that separates the tiers is teachable, and it is teachable fastest before the content gets harder. The same student in February of Year 11, after entries have closed, has a different and narrower job to do. If your child is anywhere near that line, the useful question to the school is not how they are doing but which tier they are being entered for, and when that becomes final.

06

What the northern-emirates market charges, and why the dearest is not automatically the strongest

Published rates in this market are wide and the spread is not primarily about quality. It is about what is inside the hour. A visiting tutor's fee contains a drive. A premium rate frequently contains scarcity rather than skill: a subject that few people teach costs more because few people teach it. An agency rate contains the agency. Reading the band without reading what sits inside it is how families end up paying for travel they could have avoided and calling it quality.

Three of the main competitor sites in this market publish no hourly figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Ras Al Khaimah family transacts in. The figures in the table below are market rates published by named providers in October 2026, not IB Gram's price list. For what a specific subject, tier and session length would cost, the honest answer is a short consultation and a first trial session at no charge, one per family, arranged after that conversation.

One useful piece of context when weighing the numbers: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai will not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School costs holding flat does not mean tutoring costs hold flat, but it does mean a family budgeting for the exam year has one fewer moving part than in previous cycles. Set the tutoring decision against the full picture: two sessions a week across an exam year is a material commitment and worth sizing before it starts.

Is this person legally permitted to teach your child for money?

This is the question most families skip and the one with the clearest answer. Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. Individuals providing private lessons need a MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and MoHRE states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit will be subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified.

The permit itself is undemanding and that is the point: there is no reason for a working tutor not to hold one. MoHRE's service page lists it as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. It is granted free of charge for two years. A tutor who tells you the permit does not apply to them, or that it does not cover online lessons, is telling you something about how they run their affairs.

There is a second rule worth knowing in this emirate because it is widely misunderstood. A teacher at your child's own school is generally not an appropriate choice for paid private tuition of that same child. Abu Dhabi's ADEK professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also addresses serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. This has been press-reported rather than read from the current policy document, so verify it against the authority's own text before relying on the exact wording, but the direction of travel is unambiguous.

Reading a school report and an inspection judgement before you hire anybody

A surprising proportion of tutoring in this emirate is bought against the wrong target. A parent sees a disappointing overall grade, buys a weekly session in that subject, and discovers in March that the problem was exam technique in two paper sections rather than content across a syllabus. The cheapest diagnostic available is already in the house: the last two marked scripts, the most recent school report, and the published inspection judgement on the school.

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and, as in Sharjah, approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. What a parent can take from a school-level judgement is narrower than it looks: the band is awarded to an institution, not to a classroom, and a strong school can have one department carrying a weak subject. The useful move is to read the judgement for the subject and the phase your child sits in, then ask the school directly how the subject's own outcomes compare with the overall band.

The report tells you where to look; the marked script tells you what to do. Read a script for the pattern rather than the total: method marks lost on questions with the right final answer point at working and presentation, not understanding. Marks lost in the last third of a paper point at pacing. Marks lost on command terms - describe answered as explain, deduce answered as state - point at a specific and quickly fixable deficit. A tutor who starts there will cost less over a year than one who starts at chapter one, because the sessions are aimed at something.

09

What a strong tutor refuses to do, and what happens when nobody covers the subject

The clearest quality signal in this market is a refusal. Coursework, extended writing and internally assessed work must be the student's own, and a tutor who offers to get a piece finished is offering something that puts the student at risk rather than the tutor. One site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright. That is a malpractice trigger for the candidate, and a parent paying for it is buying an exposure, not a grade. Teaching, feedback on a draft the student wrote, and coaching on process are legitimate. Producing the work is not.

The same applies to materials. Board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and are referenced and linked rather than handed over as downloads. A tutor who offers a folder of everything is a convenience in the short run and a copyright problem for whoever distributed it. Work from the official pages, and ask the school which documents it has already provided.

Honesty about availability is the last signal, and it is the one competitors in this market conceal. Some subjects and tiers simply do not have a UAE-based specialist free at the hour a Ras Al Khaimah family needs. Additional Mathematics, Extended-tier physics and several option subjects come up repeatedly. When that happens the straight answer is to say so, name the alternative - a specialist in another time zone teaching at a Gulf Standard Time slot, or a different session pattern - and let the family decide. No tutor can promise a grade, and anyone who does in a first conversation has told you how the rest of the relationship will go.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Where a family lives in Ras Al Khaimah changes which schools are realistic, which tuition centres are convenient, and what time a weekday session can start. It does not change which syllabus code your child is entered for, which is why proximity is a weaker filter here than parents expect.

Al Nakheel

The city-side cluster of Indian-curriculum campuses and most of the emirate's tuition centres. The widest local choice, and the highest risk of hiring on convenience: a centre ten minutes away may be teaching a board your child is not entered for.

Al Dhait North and South

Residential and well connected to the city-side schools. Families here can usually reach a centre within fifteen minutes, which makes the comparison between group revision classes and one-to-one teaching a live weekly decision rather than a theoretical one.

Khuzam

Built around a school campus, with clubs running into the late afternoon. The practical constraint is not distance but the end of the extended school day, which pushes a realistic weekday start past five o'clock for most students.

Al Hamra Village and Al Hamra

The southern coastal strip, closest to the emirate's continuum campuses. Villa households here often want sibling sessions scheduled back to back, which is simpler over video than with a visiting tutor pricing a round trip.

Mina Al Arab and Hayat Island

Low-density coastal development some distance from the city-side schools. A visiting tutor prices the drive into the hour; a video session does not, which is the single clearest cost difference for households on this stretch.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed islands with a long single access road. Families here report that an evening slot which looks fine on paper collapses once the return leg is added, so continuity is the first thing to check against any visiting arrangement.

Al Qusaidat and Al Mamourah

Northern districts where crossing to the city-side schools takes longer than the map suggests at the end of the school day. Prayer timings and the crossing together narrow the usable weekday window considerably.

Al Uraibi, Al Mairid and Seih Al Uraibi

Older city districts with mixed-curriculum intakes, including Indian-board and British-curriculum students in the same street. Two neighbours asking for an IGCSE maths tutor can need two different boards.

Al Rams, Sha'am and the northern strip

Thinly populated and furthest from the emirate's schools. Any arrangement that depends on someone driving here twice a week has a continuity problem built into it before term starts.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ras Al Khaimah

Al Hamra and the southern coast

The emirate's continuum provision is concentrated here, which is why southern-coast families comparing International GCSE with the Middle Years Programme are often comparing two campuses within a few minutes of each other.

  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam
  • RAK English Speaking School

The city side: Al Nakheel, Al Uraibi and Khuzam

Mostly Indian-curriculum and mixed intakes, with International GCSE taught alongside other boards. The practical consequence is that a street can contain students on three different exam systems sitting in the same tuition centre classroom.

Campuses in neighbouring emirates that families also weigh

When a subject or tier is not available locally, the realistic alternatives sit in Ajman and Sharjah. Each is under a different regulator from Ras Al Khaimah, which changes term dates and fee rules as well as the inspection cycle.

  • Ajman Academy
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • Wesgreen International School Sharjah

Schools are named here as context for Ras Al Khaimah families; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation with, endorsement by, or representation of any named school.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes, not the subject

Start with the syllabus codes from your child's entry list, the tier, and the school's current teaching order. If you do not have them, one email to the school office produces all three. This single step removes most of the mismatch risk before anybody is matched.

  2. 02

Share the last two marked scripts

A recent test and a recent piece of written work say more than a report. They show whether marks are being lost on method, pacing or command terms, and they let the first session start on a diagnosis instead of a general chapter review.

  3. 03

A short consultation, then one trial session at no charge

The consultation confirms the code, the tier and the time slot in Gulf Standard Time. One trial session per family follows at no charge, after which you decide. Nothing beyond that session is committed, and there is no term block to exit.

  4. 04

Agree a plan in writing that names topics

Ask for the plan after the trial in writing, however brief. It should name papers, topics and a sequence. A plan that names attitudes rather than topics cannot be measured, and an unmeasurable plan is how a year of weekly sessions passes without a change in outcome.

  5. 05

Review against the next marked script

Set a review point at the next school assessment rather than at a number of weeks. The question at that point is whether the marks moved in the sections the plan targeted. If they did not, the plan was aimed wrongly and should change, which is a normal event rather than a failure.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The pool is defined by the code, not by the drive

Matching starts from the syllabus code and tier rather than from a postcode. In an emirate where a subject cohort can be a dozen students, that is the difference between a specialist in the paper and a generalist covering three sciences in one slot.

Rates on this page are the market's, with sources

Every AED figure published here is attributed to the provider that published it and dated to October 2026. Three of the main competing sites in this market publish no hourly figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars.

The honesty line is stated before you ask

Coursework support is teaching and feedback on the student's own writing. Board papers and mark schemes are linked at source rather than redistributed. These limits are written here so that a family does not have to discover them during an internal assessment week.

Scheduling is built around the local school day

Sessions run in Gulf Standard Time and are set around the end of the school day, club commitments and prayer timings, with the Ramadan timetable adjusted rather than suspended. Slots move inside the same week when a school event intervenes.

Availability limits are disclosed, not hidden

Where no UAE-based specialist covers a subject at the hour you need, that is said plainly along with the alternative. Several providers in this market route families to a foreign phone number instead of disclosing where delivery happens.

Independent, and clear about what that means

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from any education regulator or examination board, and no school named on this page is a client or partner. Those are statements of fact rather than modesty.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

Is there an official ranking of IGCSE tutors in Ras Al Khaimah?+

No. The RAK Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and approves school fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, but its remit covers institutions rather than individuals. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit, which establishes that someone may legally teach for money and tests nothing about subject competence. Any site presenting a ranked list of tutors is ranking its own customers. The practical substitute is evidence you can check in one conversation: the syllabus code your child is entered for, the paper structure under that code, the tier of the entry, and what the last marked script shows about where marks were lost.

How do I check in one conversation whether a tutor actually knows the syllabus?+

Ask which syllabus code your child is entered for and what the papers under it are worth. A specialist answers flatly and quickly, names the tier, and distinguishes Cambridge 0580 from Pearson 4MA1 without prompting. A generalist talks about covering all the boards. Then ask what they want to see before the first lesson. The useful answer is the last two marked scripts and the school's teaching order; the weak answer is the textbook. Finally, ask what they will not do with coursework. A tutor who says the writing stays the student's own work has told you where their limits are before you had to test them.

My son's school enters Pearson Edexcel. Does a Cambridge-trained tutor still work?+

Often yes, but only if they say so openly and adjust. The content overlap between Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 is large; the paper structure, practical assessment route and data-question style are not identical, and past-paper practice has to come from the right board. A tutor who has taught both will tell you which parts of their usual approach change. A tutor who says the boards are basically the same will teach the overlap and discover the difference during the mock season. Confirm the code from the school's entry statement and give it to the tutor before the first session rather than after it.

What should a trial session produce before we commit to anything?+

A written plan that names topics and papers. Forty-five minutes with an organised adult tells you very little, because a pleasant generalist and a subject specialist look alike over that span. What differs is the output: a specialist leaves you with a sequence that cites the specification, identifies two or three topics in order, says which paper sections the marks are sitting in, and sets a point at which to review. A plan describing confidence, motivation and rapport cannot be measured against anything. Ask for the plan in writing, however short, and read it for nouns rather than adjectives.

Is a tuition centre in Al Nakheel better value than one-to-one for IGCSE maths?+

It is a different service rather than a cheaper version of the same one. A group revision class is cost-effective when the whole group shares the same gap and the aim is broad coverage before a series. It stops being effective when your child's problem is specific: method marks lost on questions answered correctly, or pacing collapsing in the last third of a paper. Centres also tend to teach to a phase rather than to a code, which matters if your child sits a different board from most of the room. Check which board the class is built around before booking a term.

Does paying more per hour get a stronger IGCSE tutor?+

Not reliably, because the hourly rate contains things other than skill. A visiting tutor's fee includes the drive, which on the northern strip or Al Marjan Island can be most of the cost. A premium rate frequently reflects scarcity: a subject few people teach costs more because few people teach it. An agency rate includes the agency. Published market figures in October 2026 ranged from AED 45 at the budget end to AED 650 at the premium end, and the useful question is what sits inside the hour rather than where the number falls in that range.

How many hours a week does an Extended-tier student in Year 11 actually need?+

One well-aimed hour a week per subject, sustained, beats three unfocused ones. Most families here start with a single weekly slot in the subject where the marked scripts show the largest recoverable total, add a second subject only if the first is moving, and switch to a short dense block after mocks when the target is specific papers. Two sessions a week across a full exam year is a material financial commitment, so it is worth sizing before starting. What changes outcomes is whether the hour is aimed at something identified in a script, not the number of hours bought.

Can my daughter move from Core to Extended tier before the entry closes?+

Sometimes, and the window is earlier than parents expect. The tier is set when the school makes the entry, and Cambridge publishes final entry deadlines months before the papers: for a June sitting the entry closes in the spring, roughly four months ahead of the first paper, and the November series has its own earlier deadline. Once entries are submitted the tier is fixed for that series, and the only honest version of the date is the one the centre gives you in writing. If your daughter is near the line, ask the school which tier she is being entered for and when that becomes final, then work on algebraic fluency, which is what usually separates the tiers and is the part that responds fastest to teaching.

What qualifications should I expect an IGCSE science tutor to hold?+

A degree in the subject rather than in education generally, plus demonstrable teaching of the specific code. The permit system does not test this: MoHRE's private tuition work permit is open to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 alike. So the qualification question has to be asked directly. For Extended-tier chemistry or physics, ask which code they teach most often, how they handle the practical paper when teaching remotely, and to see an example of marked feedback they have given on a past paper.

How do I verify a private tutor's MoHRE permit before the first lesson?+

Ask to see it. The permit is issued through MoHRE under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and the service appears on MoHRE's own site as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time via the smart app, website and e-services system. Because it costs nothing and takes two days, there is no good reason for a working tutor not to hold one. MoHRE states that individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure you see quoted as unverified.

We live in Al Dhait and the specialist is in another country. Does that matter?+

It matters for scheduling and for nothing else, provided the format is genuinely one-to-one and live. Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the local school day, so the tutor's location affects their working hours rather than your child's. What it changes in your favour is the pool: instead of choosing among people willing to drive to Al Dhait twice a week, you are choosing among people who teach the specific code. In an emirate with small subject cohorts, that swap is usually the difference between a specialist and a generalist covering three subjects.

Will a tutor help my child finish a piece of IGCSE coursework by Friday?+

Not in the sense the question usually means. A tutor can teach the skills the task assesses, explain what the criteria reward, and give feedback on a draft your child has written. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it to completion, or supply a version to adapt. Work that must be the student's own has to stay the student's own, and the risk of crossing that line falls on the candidate rather than on the tutor. One site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright; a parent buying that is buying an exposure. If a deadline is tomorrow, the honest help is triage and planning.

Does my child need five or six IGCSE passes for UAE equivalency?+

On the British track, students must show passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. Above that, the requirement is one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One competing site in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. Equivalency is a ministry process; verify the current requirements on the ministry's own channel before acting on any restatement, including this one.

What happens if nobody can teach the IGCSE subject my child has chosen?+

You get told, with the alternative named. Some subjects and tiers have no UAE-based specialist free at the hour a Ras Al Khaimah family needs: Additional Mathematics 0606, Extended-tier physics and several option subjects come up repeatedly. The options at that point are a specialist in another time zone teaching into a Gulf Standard Time slot, a different session pattern such as a fortnightly longer session, or waiting for a slot to open. None of those is hidden behind a form. No provider in this market discloses a coverage limit, which is exactly why it is written here.

Does the inspection judgement on my child's school tell me anything useful about tutoring?+

It tells you where to look, not what to buy. A judgement is awarded to an institution, so a strong overall band can sit above one department that is carrying a weaker subject, and a weaker band does not mean every classroom is weak. Read the judgement for the subject and the phase your child is actually in, then ask the school how that subject's own outcomes compare with the overall picture. Pair that with the last two marked scripts, which show whether marks are going on method, pacing or command terms. The report narrows the question; the script answers it.

Start with the code, the tier and the last marked script

If you take one thing from this page, make it the email to the school office asking for the syllabus codes and the tier on your child's entry list. Those three facts turn an unanswerable search into a specific question a specialist can answer in minutes. Send them with the last two marked scripts and a workable weekday window in Gulf Standard Time, and the consultation can start on a diagnosis rather than an introduction. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live online; IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Ras Al Khaimah address, and it holds no regulator or examination-board approval. What it does is match a student to someone who teaches their code.
