Edexcel IGCSE Tutor in the UAE

An Edexcel IGCSE tutor in the UAE is quoted anywhere between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and that gap is not only about teaching quality. It is about tier, the four-character specification code, how many weeks are left before the paper, and whether somebody is being paid for travel time. This page prices all of it: what the UAE market charged in October 2026, what moves the number, and what a single paid hour should produce. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Why two quotes for the same Edexcel subject can differ by AED 400 an hour

A parent in Mirdif and a parent in Khalifa City can ask for exactly the same thing - one hour a week of Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry for a Year 11 student - and be quoted AED 90 by one provider and AED 480 by another. Neither number is a mistake. They are pricing two different products. The first is supervision: a graduate who worked through the same papers a few years ago, sitting with your child while they attempt questions. The second is instruction: a teacher who has marked against the Pearson mark scheme, knows which command words carry which marks, and arrives with the next six weeks already planned.

Most UAE tutoring pages will not tell you this, because most of them publish no figure at all. Of the six provider pages that rank hardest for International GCSE tuition searches in this market, three show no hourly rate anywhere, and of the remaining three, two quote in US dollars - a currency no family in the Emirates pays a school fee in. The practical consequence is that parents here negotiate blind, and the usual result is paying a specialist rate for supervision, or paying a supervision rate and wondering in May why nothing moved.

This page exists to end the guessing for one specific qualification. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is not interchangeable with Cambridge. The codes are different, the paper counts are different, the tiering decisions are different, and several Edexcel subjects carry a coursework or on-screen component that changes what an hour of tuition is even for. A quote that does not reference your child's code - 4MA1, 4PH1, 4EA1, 4CP0 - is a quote for something generic, and generic is the single most expensive thing you can buy in this market.

The honest answer on value is that tuition is worth funding when there is a diagnosable gap, enough weeks left to close it, and a tutor who can name both. It is poor value when it is bought as reassurance in the last fortnight, when it duplicates something the school already does well, or when it is spread so thin across five subjects that no single weakness gets eight consecutive weeks of attention. Those three failures account for most of the money wasted on tutoring in the Emirates, and none of them are fixed by paying more per hour.

What follows is the arithmetic rather than the argument: a market rate table with its sources and its date, the seven things that genuinely move a quote, a cost view of every major Edexcel code, the calendar counted backwards in both hours and money, and the costs that sit outside a tutor invoice entirely - private candidate entry, a review of marking, Ministry of Education equivalency. Figures on this page were reviewed in October 2026 and carry the source that published them.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Pearson Edexcel runs a connected set of international qualifications, and the stage your child is at decides both the shape of the teaching and the size of the bill. These are the four routes UAE families most often ask about on this page.

ILSAges 11-14 - Years 7-9

Pearson Edexcel International Lower Secondary

The three years before International GCSE begins, assessed internally by the school with optional Pearson tests at the end of Year 9. English, mathematics and science carry progression tests that many UAE schools use to set Year 10 groups, which means a Year 9 result often decides whether a child is put on the Foundation or Higher route for 4MA1.

This is the cheapest place in the whole sequence to buy help, and the least popular. An hour a week in Year 9 at the lower end of the market band does the work that forty hours of Year 11 repair tries to do later. UAE families typically start spending two years after the gap opens, which is the single most expensive habit on this page.

IGCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (9-1)

Graded 9 to 1 rather than A* to G, assessed almost entirely by terminal written papers, with a coursework route available in a handful of subjects such as English Language A. Candidates sit either a May/June or a November series. Most subjects run two papers; Science Double Award runs three and awards two grades.

This is where nearly all UAE tutoring money goes, and where it is most often mistimed. Final entries are submitted by the school months before the paper, so the decisions worth paying a tutor to inform - tier, subject count, whether to move a candidate from Core-style supervision to full Higher teaching - have to happen in the autumn term, not after the February mocks.

IALAges 16-18 - Years 12-13

Pearson Edexcel International A Level

The unitised route after International GCSE: subjects break into units that can be sat across several series rather than in one terminal block, which is the main structural difference families notice when they move up from the linear International GCSE. Grades run A* to E and feed directly into Ministry of Education equivalency for the British track.

Unitisation changes the economics of tuition. Because a unit can be re-sat in a later series, families in the Emirates often fund short, intense blocks aimed at one unit rather than a year-long weekly hour. That is usually better value, provided the re-sit entry deadline is known before the block is booked rather than after.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme (the alternative sixth-form route)

The two-year Diploma that many UAE students move into after Edexcel International GCSEs, with six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Internal assessments are marked by the school and moderated by the IB, which is a different assessment culture from a terminal Pearson paper.

The transition cost is real and predictable. A strong grade 8 in 4MA1 Higher does not automatically carry into Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, because proof, modelling and the toolkit of mathematical investigation are taught differently. Families who budget six to ten hours across the first Diploma term spend less overall than those who wait for the first internal assessment to go wrong.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Edexcel prices by specification, not by subject name. The code tells a tutor the paper count, the weighting split, the tier decision and where the marks leak. These are the codes UAE families most often ask about, with the part of each that actually consumes paid hours.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

Two papers of two hours, 100 marks each, fifty per cent apiece. Foundation covers grades 5 to 1 and Higher covers 9 to 4 with an allowed 3. The tier decision matters more than any topic: a Foundation candidate never meets several Higher-only topics, so tuition aimed at a grade 7 is wasted if the entry says Foundation.

Mathematics B (4MB1)

Untiered, full 9-1 range

Two papers with the longer one carrying the larger share of the marks, and no tier to fall back on. Algebraic manipulation and structured proof are heavier than in Mathematics A. Schools usually enter their strongest sets. Hours go on fluency and on writing an argument that earns method marks rather than circling an answer.

Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

Untiered, sat alongside a main maths entry

Two papers of two hours at fifty per cent each, covering calculus, series, matrices and coordinate geometry well beyond the standard International GCSE. Most UAE timetables do not teach it in full, so it is the most common reason a family funds a second weekly hour. Scarcity pushes the rate above the normal band.

Physics (4PH1)

Single award, untiered

Paper 1 runs two hours for 110 marks, roughly sixty-one per cent of the grade; Paper 2 runs an hour and a quarter for 70 marks. There is no separate practical exam, so experimental method is examined in writing. Marks leak on equation recall, unit conversion and the six-mark questions that ask for a method rather than a result.

Chemistry (4CH1)

Single award, untiered

The same two-paper split as Physics, with Paper 2 concentrating the organic chemistry and the quantitative work. Moles arithmetic is where a mid-grade candidate loses most, followed by electrolysis and rates. A tutor who sets a timed mole-calculation drill every week does more for the grade than one who re-explains the periodic table.

Biology (4BI1)

Single award, untiered

Two papers on the same weighting pattern as the other sciences. The content is learnable, which is exactly why marks go missing: extended-answer questions reward precise command-word responses, and vague answers to explain or describe score zero. Paid hours are best spent marking written answers against the mark scheme, not re-reading notes.

Science (Double Award) (4SD0)

Three papers, two grades awarded

One paper per science, awarded as two International GCSE grades. It is the quiet budget trap on this page: three syllabuses sit behind one timetable slot, so a family funding one hour a week is funding twenty minutes per science. Families who get value from it pick the weakest of the three and work only on that for a term.

English Language A (4EA1)

Written papers, or a coursework route

Paper 1 handles non-fiction reading and transactional writing; the second component covers poetry and prose with an alternative coursework route the school chooses, not the parent. Marking time is what makes this subject expensive to tutor properly: every piece has to be read before it can be taught, so an hour of lesson implies real work outside it.

English Literature (4ET1)

Anthology, unseen poetry, prose and drama

Quotation recall under closed-book conditions plus comparative structure, which is a skill rather than a body of knowledge. Hours spent summarising plot are hours wasted. The productive use of paid time is building four or five transferable argument frames and then testing them against unseen poetry under a clock.

Computer Science (4CP0)

Written principles plus an on-screen paper

Paper 1 is written theory; the second component is a long on-screen programming paper sat at a computer. That single fact changes the tutor market: the person teaching it has to be able to code fluently in the school's chosen language as well as teach, and that combination is thin on the ground in the Emirates, so the rate sits above the band.

Economics (4EC1)

Two equally weighted papers

Microeconomics and business economics in one paper, macroeconomics and the global economy in the other. Diagram accuracy and evaluation marks decide the grade, and neither is revisable from a textbook. Paid hours earn their keep on labelled diagrams drawn under time pressure and on the structure of an evaluative paragraph.

Business (4BS1)

Two equally weighted papers

Case-study driven, with application marks that require the candidate to use the business in front of them rather than a memorised example. UAE students who have grown up around family businesses often reason well and still score poorly, because they answer from experience instead of from the stimulus material. That is a teachable fix inside a term.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways families in the Emirates buy Edexcel help, priced differently because they do different jobs. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

The weekly hour against one specification code

One subject, one code, one hour a week through the academic year, with the topic order taken from the Pearson specification rather than from the school's sequence. This is the lowest-cost route to a grade change because it spreads the work across enough weeks for practice to compound, and because weekly marking catches a misconception before it becomes a habit.

  • Priced per hour, no block commitment before the trial lesson
  • Written work marked against the published mark scheme between sessions
  • Topic order follows the specification, so school gaps surface early
  • Best value from September of Year 10 or Year 11 onwards

The paper sprint in the final ten to twelve weeks

A short, dense block aimed at technique rather than content: timed sections, command-word discipline, and the two or three topics a mock showed were recoverable. It costs more per week than the weekly hour and less in total, and it is the right purchase once final entries are locked and the tier can no longer change.

  • Two sessions a week, each built around a timed paper section
  • Explicit work on the command words Pearson uses in each subject
  • A deliberately short topic list - everything else is triaged out
  • Scheduled around the mock window, not around convenience

Coursework and practical-skills clinic

For the Edexcel components that are not a conventional written paper: the English Language A coursework route, the on-screen programming component in Computer Science, and the experimental-method questions that stand in for a practical exam in the sciences. The tutor teaches the skill the task assesses and gives feedback on work the student has already done.

  • Teaching and feedback only - submitted words must be the student's own
  • Experimental method taught through method design and data questions
  • Programming taught by live screen-share in the school's language
  • School deadlines drive the sessions, not the other way round

Holiday and post-results blocks

The UAE academic calendar leaves three usable windows - the winter break, the long summer, and the fortnight after results arrive. Hours bought in these windows are cheaper in opportunity cost because nothing competes with them, and they are the only time a full syllabus repair is realistic rather than aspirational.

  • Four to six consecutive days rather than scattered single hours
  • Winter break used for the mock, summer for the next year's foundations
  • Post-results sessions begin with the decision, not with teaching
  • Sessions time-shifted to post-Iftar hours through Ramadan

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What an Edexcel IGCSE tutor costs in the UAE, with the sources attached

An Edexcel IGCSE tutor in the UAE is quoted between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour as of October 2026. A qualified subject teacher working one-to-one over video sits at AED 150 to AED 300. A visiting in-home tutor sits at AED 180 to AED 500, because travel time is paid time. A former examiner or premium brand sits above AED 500. Those four sentences are more pricing information than most provider pages in this market publish at all.

The bands come from two places: provider rate cards published openly and surveyed in October 2026, and the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, which is the only independent compilation of UAE tutoring rates we could verify. They are market figures. They are not an IB Gram price list, and nobody should read a range as a quote - the point of publishing them is so that you can tell whether the number you have been given is normal, high or implausibly low for what is being promised.

Monthly packages behave differently from hourly rates and are worth understanding separately. Packages seen in this market run at about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. On a per-hour basis the online package is competitive and the in-home package is not, which is almost entirely the cost of a car. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

One warning about the bottom of the range. A tutor charging AED 45 an hour is not necessarily bad, but they are almost certainly not reading your child's work between sessions, because nobody can mark a 110-mark Physics paper against a mark scheme for that money. If marking matters to you - and for 4BI1 and 4EA1 it is the single highest-yield activity available - then the rate you are comparing has to include it explicitly, or you are comparing two different products again.

The seven things that actually move an Edexcel quote

  • Ask which tier the entry actually is before agreeing a target grade
  • Ask whether written work is marked between sessions, and by whom
  • Ask what the travel component of an in-home quote is worth per hour
  • Ask whether a weekend or holiday slot changes the rate

Price in this market is not a mystery, it is a sum. Seven variables account for almost every quote you will be given, and six of them are things you control or at least know in advance. Ask a provider which of the seven they are pricing and the conversation stops being about brand and starts being about the work.

Tier sits at the top because it changes the content, not just the target. A Foundation-tier entry for Mathematics A caps the grade at 5, so an hour aimed at a 7 for a Foundation candidate is an hour spent on topics they will not be asked about. Scarcity sits second: Further Pure Mathematics and the on-screen Computer Science component have a thin regional teaching pool, and thin pools price up regardless of where you look.

Time is the variable parents underestimate most. Eight weeks before a paper, the cheap slots and the strong tutors are already committed, so late demand buys from a smaller, pricier pool - and buys fewer usable weeks with it. The fourth and fifth variables, format and marking, are where the biggest hidden differences live: travel inside a fee can be a third of the price, and whether somebody reads a timed paper between sessions can double the real work behind a stated hour.

The last two are mundane and still worth asking about. Time of day concentrates almost all UAE demand between 5pm and 8pm on school nights, which is exactly why weekend-morning and holiday hours are easier to book and often cheaper. And session count per subject matters: two subjects at one hour each is a different purchase from one subject at two hours, and the second usually produces a grade change sooner.

Priced by specification code, not by subject name

Pearson publishes its International GCSEs as coded specifications, and the code is the most useful four characters in this entire conversation. It tells a tutor the paper count, the weighting split, whether a tier decision exists, and whether a component is written, coursework or on-screen. A provider who quotes for International GCSE Physics without asking whether it is 4PH1 or a double-award component is quoting for a subject they have not yet identified.

The practical test is simple. Before you pay anything, get the statement of entry from the school's exams officer, or at minimum the subject code list. Then ask the prospective tutor what Paper 2 of that code contains and how it is weighted. A specialist answers in one sentence. Somebody who has worked from generic British GCSE material will answer in generalities, and generalities are what you are trying not to buy at AED 300 an hour.

Codes also explain price differences that otherwise look arbitrary. The sciences at 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 share a two-paper structure where the first paper carries around sixty-one per cent of the marks over two hours and the second around thirty-nine per cent in an hour and a quarter. No separate practical exam exists, so experimental method is examined in writing - which is teachable over video in a way a laboratory is not, and which is one of the few places where the online format is straightforwardly better value rather than merely equivalent.

Two codes deserve a specific warning. Science Double Award, 4SD0, puts three sciences behind one entry and awards two grades, so an hour a week is twenty minutes per science and almost always the wrong shape of purchase. And Computer Science, 4CP0, carries a long on-screen programming component, which means the tutor must code fluently in the school's language as well as teach - a combination scarce enough in the Emirates that the rate sits above the standard band. Always confirm the current structure of any code on qualifications.pearson.com before planning hours around it.

Mathematics A, Mathematics B or Further Pure: the route choice that moves the bill most

Of every decision on this page, the maths route changes the budget most and gets the least attention. Pearson offers three distinct maths qualifications at International GCSE level, they are not ranked versions of each other, and the one a child is entered for determines both the grade ceiling and the kind of teaching an hour can usefully contain.

Mathematics A, 4MA1, is the common route and the only tiered one. Foundation covers grades 5 down to 1; Higher covers 9 down to 4 with an allowed 3. That cap is the single most expensive misunderstanding in UAE tutoring, because a family can spend a full year funding work towards a grade 7 that the entry makes impossible. The tier is a school decision, it is reviewable in the autumn term, and it is the first thing a tutor should ask about rather than the last.

Mathematics B, 4MB1, is untiered, so the whole 9 to 1 range sits on one route with no safety net below. It leans harder on algebraic manipulation and on structured proof, and schools generally reserve it for stronger sets. Hours here are spent differently from 4MA1: less topic repair, more fluency and more attention to writing an argument a marker can follow and award method marks to.

Further Pure Mathematics, 4PM1, sits alongside a main maths entry rather than replacing it, and covers calculus, series, matrices and coordinate geometry. Most UAE schools cannot timetable it fully, which is why it is the most common reason a family funds a second weekly hour and why its rate sits above the ordinary band. For a student heading towards engineering or mathematics at university it is usually money well spent; for a student who still loses marks on 4MA1 algebra it is money spent in the wrong order.

05

What a single paid hour should actually produce

  • After one hour: a named topic list, the code and tier confirmed, work annotated
  • After four hours: one timed section marked, command-word answers visibly changed
  • After eight hours: the weak-topic list is shorter, with evidence for each removal
  • Stop paying when two marked papers show no movement on the named topics

Value in tutoring is measurable, and the unit is not satisfaction. By the end of a first paid hour on an Edexcel subject you should be able to see four things: a named list of the topics that are costing marks, the specification code and tier confirmed out loud, a piece of the student's own written work annotated against the mark scheme, and a plan for the next three sessions with the order explained. If an hour produces only the feeling that it went well, you bought reassurance.

By the end of a month - four hours, somewhere between AED 600 and AED 1,200 at the mid-market band - the test changes. There should be at least one timed section attempted under exam conditions and marked, a visible change in how the student answers a command word such as explain or calculate, and a shorter list of weak topics than the one you started with. A list that has not shortened after four hours is information: either the diagnosis was wrong or the match is wrong, and both are worth acting on quickly.

The cost-per-mark view is more useful than cost-per-hour, even though nobody advertises it. Twelve hours spread across one term on one subject, at AED 200 an hour, is AED 2,400 aimed at a specific band of recoverable marks. The same AED 2,400 spread over four subjects in the last fortnight buys three hours each, which is not enough to change how anyone answers anything. The arithmetic is unglamorous and it is the whole argument for concentration over coverage.

There is a point at which the right decision is to stop paying. If two consecutive marked papers show no movement on the topics the plan named, if sessions are being filled with content the school has already taught well, or if the student cannot say what the last session was about, the hours are not working. A provider worth using will raise that before you do, and will say plainly when a weekly hour has done its job and a short sprint nearer the paper is the better remaining purchase.

06

The Pearson calendar counted backwards in hours and money

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams run in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so any plan should be built against the live official timetable rather than a date copied from a page like this one.

What this means financially is that the value of an hour decays, and not smoothly. Three decisions stop being available at different moments: the tier stops being changeable once the school submits final entries, the subject count stops being changeable at the same moment, and after that only technique and topic triage remain. Money spent before those gates can change what is sat; money spent after can only change how it is answered. Both are worth spending - but confusing the two is how families end up disappointed by a tutor who was never able to affect the thing they cared about.

The second timing fact worth planning around is the gap between the last paper and results day, which for the June 2026 series was roughly eleven weeks. That gap is dead time for tuition and live time for decisions, and the fortnight after results is the single most productive block in the whole year: a review of marking has a deadline, a November entry has a deadline, and both are better decided with two or three paid hours of analysis than with a family argument.

Ramadan deserves explicit planning rather than improvisation, because in recent years it has sat across the UAE mock window. Schools shorten the day, energy drops in the afternoon, and the honest answer is that the usual 5pm slot does not work. Families who move sessions to post-Iftar hours for the month keep their momentum; families who simply cancel four weeks lose a tenth of a year's tuition at precisely the point when a mock result is meant to be driving the plan.

Online, visiting, group or centre: the four formats compared on cost

This is the comparison UAE parents search for most and get answered least honestly, usually because the page answering it sells only one of the four. The useful version prices each format against the thing it is actually good at, and states plainly what it gives up.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video. Home visits are a service offered only in India, and no tutor is sent to a UAE address. That is a limit and it is also the argument: a family in Al Zahia or Fujairah gets the specialist who teaches 4CP0 or 4PM1 rather than whichever generalist can reach the gate by five o'clock. On the cost side, no travel is being paid for, and a 5pm session starts at 5pm whether the student is in Jumeirah or Umm Al Quwain.

A visiting tutor buys presence in the room, which genuinely helps some students - the ones who need a book physically taken off them and a page pointed at. It costs AED 180 to AED 500 an hour in this market with travel inside the fee, the tutor pool shrinks to whoever can reach your address, and in practice cancellations cluster on the days the roads do not cooperate. Small groups and centre classes cut the per-hour price and hand the pace to the group, which works for coverage and fails for a specific weakness.

There is no format that is best for everyone, and anyone who says otherwise is describing their own inventory. The question worth asking is narrower: for this code, this tier and this number of remaining weeks, which format puts the right teacher in front of the student for the most hours per dirham? For scarce Edexcel codes in the northern emirates, that answer is almost always video. For a Year 10 student who needs supervision more than instruction, a group class may be the honest recommendation even though it is not what we sell.

The Edexcel costs that sit outside a tutor's invoice

  • Ask a private-candidate centre for its fee list and internal deadline in writing
  • A review of marking runs through the centre, on a deadline of weeks not months
  • Five accredited International GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 for the British track
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside the five subjects the Ministry counts

Tuition is rarely the only line item, and the ones families miss are the ones with deadlines attached. Four sit around a Pearson entry: the entry itself if the candidate is private rather than school-registered, a review of marking after results, a re-sit entry in a later series, and Ministry of Education equivalency for the certificate once it exists.

Private candidate entry is the first surprise. A student not entered through their own school has to find a centre that accepts external candidates, and those centres set their own administrative charges on top of the Pearson entry fee. There is no central published figure for the UAE, so the only reliable step is to ask the centre for its fee list in writing, along with its own internal deadline, which always sits before Pearson's. Centres also fill up, and in this market a late private entry can fail on capacity rather than on money.

A review of marking carries an administrative fee set by the board and is requested through the centre, not by the family directly, with a deadline measured in weeks after results rather than months. That is the real cost of the post-results fortnight: not the fee, but the fact that a decision has to be made quickly and well. Two or three paid hours spent reading the paper and the grade against the mark scheme is a rational purchase at that moment, and it is cheaper than a re-sit entered in panic.

Equivalency is the one families discover latest. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects at International GCSE or GCSE with grades of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade - and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One competing provider page states that UAE candidates need six IGCSE subjects; the sourced rule is five. Equivalency is a process the family completes with the Ministry, not something a tutoring provider performs, and no tutoring is required for it.

What money cannot buy: the honesty line on Edexcel components

Some Edexcel subjects carry components that are not a terminal written paper: the coursework route in English Language A, the on-screen programming paper in Computer Science, and the experimental-method questions that stand in for a practical exam in the sciences. Those are exactly the components where a market in finished work exists, and where parents are occasionally offered something that would end their child's entry rather than improve it.

The boundary is not vague. A tutor may teach the skill the task assesses, model an equivalent example that is not the task itself, question a draft the student has already made, and give feedback the student then acts on alone. A tutor may not supply sentences, paragraphs, code or data for submission. Submitted material has to be the student's own, and board malpractice rules treat the student as responsible for it regardless of who was paid.

The test we apply is whether a session could be described out loud to the school's exams officer without anyone becoming uncomfortable. Teaching paragraph structure before a coursework piece passes. Reading a draft and saying which paragraph does not answer the question passes. Dictating a replacement paragraph does not, and neither does debugging a student's on-screen programming submission to the point where the work is no longer theirs. Any provider in this market offering a finished piece of assessed work for a fee is selling an entry cancellation with a lesson attached.

This matters commercially as well as ethically, because it is the clearest difference between providers in this SERP. One operation found during research sells completed internal assessments outright. Pages that quietly imply the same thing use phrases such as help with your submission and done-for-you. A provider that writes the boundary down, as this paragraph does, is a provider you can hold to it - and that is worth more than any claim about quality that nobody can check.

10

Regulators, mandatory UAE subjects and what each does to a tutoring budget

Which authority oversees your child's school changes what you can ask for, what is public, and occasionally who is allowed to teach your child privately. In Dubai that is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain it is the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge, both of which approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education.

The budget consequence runs through inspection reports, which are published and which almost nobody reads before buying tuition. A school rated strongly in mathematics and weakly in a science is telling you where a paid hour will and will not add value. Buying a weekly hour in the department your school does best is the most common avoidable expense in this market, and the report is free.

There is also a rule that removes the cheapest-looking option from the table. ADEK professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 carries a code of conduct to the same effect. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, covers school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask any tutor you pay directly whether they hold it.

Finally, the subjects your Edexcel fees do not cover. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and schools need prior Ministry permission to use different or additional content. That last rule is why honest tutoring in these subjects follows the school's own materials rather than importing a syllabus of its own.

Where we tutor

What the same Edexcel hour costs across the seven emirates

Rates in this market are partly a function of geography: how many subject teachers live within driving distance, and how long that drive takes at five in the afternoon. Delivering over video removes the second variable entirely, which is why the bands below converge once travel comes out of the fee.

Dubai

The deepest British-curriculum pool in the country - 227 private schools in 2024-25 with 37 per cent of enrolments on a UK curriculum. Depth is why Dubai quotes span the whole AED 45 to 650 range, and why a Foundation-tier maths hour and a 4PM1 hour are priced nothing like each other here.

Abu Dhabi

Schools licensed by ADEK, with the British-curriculum cluster spread between the Corniche, Al Bateen, Khalifa City and Al Raha. A visiting tutor crossing from the islands to Khalifa City at 5pm is charging for roughly ninety minutes of road, which is most of the gap between the online and in-home bands.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK, with a far smaller resident pool of International GCSE subject specialists. Families here feel the scarcity premium first on sciences and Further Pure Mathematics. Over video the Al Ain rate is the Dubai rate, because the only thing distance was ever pricing was petrol and traffic.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves fees, curricula and assessment methods in the emirate. Many Sharjah families work in Dubai, so evening slots are tight; the practical saving is a 7pm video session that needs no return trip across the Al Ittihad corridor.

Ajman

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. The resident specialist pool is thin enough that in-home quotes often include a surcharge for the drive up from Dubai. Removing the drive is the whole argument for video in the northern emirates, and it is a cost argument before it is an education one.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under the federal Ministry of Education, and the emirate where a parent is least likely to find a resident Edexcel Chemistry teacher at all. Families here are typically choosing between a generalist who can attend and a specialist who cannot. Video makes that a false choice.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education is regulated by the emirate Department of Knowledge, which also approves fees and curricula. The school pool is small and concentrated, so a single subject gap can go unmet for a whole term locally. Scheduling around the longer school run matters more here than the hourly rate does.

Fujairah

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, and the clearest illustration of why travel dominates in-home pricing: a tutor driving from Dubai is committing four hours to the road around a one-hour lesson. That is the top of the AED 180-500 band before a word has been taught.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai - British-curriculum schools entering Pearson papers

Schools in this group commonly split their entries between Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge by department, so a single student can sit 4MA1 for maths and a Cambridge code for a science. Ask the exams officer for the statement of entry rather than assuming the school is a one-board school, because the code decides the tutor.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Jumeirah College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Repton School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from taking paid private tuition with students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct to the same effect. That rules out the cheapest-looking option in this cluster, which is your child's own classroom teacher.

  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Al Ain English Speaking School

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Fewer schools means fewer teaching sets per subject, so a child who needs Higher-tier mathematics in a school that runs one Higher set has no internal alternative if the fit is wrong. This is the cluster where families most often fund a weekly hour as a substitute for a second set rather than as remediation.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • RAK Academy
  • Ajman Academy

Schools are named here as context for the UAE Edexcel ecosystem and because families recognise them; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any school or school group is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send two documents before anything is quoted

The statement of entry or subject code list, and the most recent marked paper or report. Those two documents turn a generic enquiry into a specific one: they confirm the Edexcel code, the tier, the series and the current standard, which between them determine the kind of tutor needed and the honest number of hours.

  2. 02

A trial lesson that produces a diagnosis

One session, used as a diagnostic rather than a sales call. The student attempts questions from their own specification while the tutor identifies what is actually costing marks. You should finish it holding a named topic list and a view on the tier, which is the first thing worth paying for and the first thing most providers skip.

  3. 03

A written plan with hours and cost attached

Before any block is agreed: topic order, number of hours, what is marked between sessions, and the total. Written plans make tutoring comparable and arguable, which is the point. If a provider will not put an hour count against a target, the target is decoration rather than a plan.

  4. 04

Weekly teaching with work marked between sessions

Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's written work annotated against the published mark scheme between them. Marking is where most of the real value sits, and it is the first thing cut by a rate too low to pay for the reading it requires.

  5. 05

Two scheduled reviews, pinned to real dates

One after the mock window, one before the school submits final entries, because those are the two moments when the plan can still change what is sat rather than only how it is answered. Each review ends with a decision: continue, concentrate on fewer topics, change the format, or stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The market rate is published here, with its date

Every AED figure on this page carries the source that published it and the month it was surveyed, because three of the six provider pages ranking for this search publish no rate at all. You can tell from this page whether a quote you have been given is normal for the Emirates, which is the minimum a parent needs.

Teaching from the code, not from a generic syllabus

4MA1 is not 4MB1, and Science Double Award is not three single sciences. Tutors work from the Pearson specification the student is entered for, which is why the first question is always about the statement of entry rather than about a year group or a target grade.

Online because the specialist matters more than the postcode

Lessons are one-to-one over live video. Home visits are offered only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For scarce codes such as Further Pure Mathematics or the on-screen Computer Science paper, that is the difference between the right teacher and the nearest available one.

The academic honesty boundary is written down

Teaching, questioning and feedback on work the student has already done. No supplied sentences, paragraphs, code or data for submission. The line is stated on the page so it can be held to, which is more useful than an unverifiable claim about quality.

What happens when nobody is free is stated too

If no specialist covers a code and tier at the hour you want, you are told that rather than offered a generalist at a specialist price. Where the best available match sits outside the UAE, that is disclosed before the first session, with the time zone written into the schedule.

Nothing here is a guarantee, and no statistic is invented

No promised grade, no claimed pass rate, no self-published star rating, and no claim of approval or partnership with any board or authority. The figures are market rates with sources, and the regulatory facts carry the government page they came from.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What is the going hourly rate for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE tuition in the Emirates?+

Surveyed in October 2026, quotes in this market run from AED 45 to AED 650 an hour. A qualified subject teacher working one-to-one over video sits at AED 150 to AED 300. A visiting in-home tutor sits at AED 180 to AED 500, because travel time is inside the fee. Former examiners and premium brands sit above AED 500. Those bands come from published provider rate cards and from the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They are market figures rather than an IB Gram price list, and the right use of them is to judge whether a quote you have been given is normal for what it promises.

Why does a Physics specialist for 4PH1 quote more than one for English Language 4EA1?+

Scarcity, mostly. The regional pool of teachers who can handle the full Physics specification, including the experimental-method questions that replace a practical exam, is smaller than the pool who can teach English Language, so the hour is bid up. The counter-point is marking load: a 4EA1 hour implies real reading time outside the session, because every piece of writing has to be read before it can be taught. A rate that looks lower per hour is not automatically cheaper per mark once you ask which quote includes work annotated against the mark scheme between sessions.

Is Mathematics Specification A cheaper to tutor than Specification B?+

Usually, and for a structural reason rather than a quality one. Mathematics A is the common route and is tiered, so most tutors in the market know it and the supply is deep. Mathematics B is untiered, carries heavier algebraic manipulation and structured proof, and is typically entered by stronger sets, so fewer tutors offer it confidently. Expect Specification B quotes nearer the upper half of the band. The more important question is which one your child is actually entered for, because planning hours for the wrong specification wastes every dirham spent regardless of the rate.

Our school mentioned units rather than papers. Does that change what we should budget?+

It usually means your child has moved up to International A Level, which is unitised: subjects break into units that can be sat across more than one series rather than in a single terminal block. That changes the shape of sensible spending. Instead of a year-long weekly hour, families often fund a short intense block aimed at one unit, then stop. It is generally better value, with one condition: find out the entry deadline for the next available series before booking the block, not after, because a block timed for a series the school has not entered is money spent on nothing.

Pearson runs a November series as well as May and June. Which is cheaper to prepare for?+

Preparation for the November series is often cheaper in practice, because demand is thinner and the strong tutors are less fully committed than they are in the spring rush. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The trade-off is teaching time: a November candidate has the summer in the middle of their run-up, which suits a disciplined student and undoes a disorganised one. Check the live timetable on the Pearson support pages before planning anything around either series.

We can fund two subjects, not five. Which Edexcel codes repay the hours fastest?+

Pick by recoverable marks, not by weakest grade. Mathematics A rewards concentrated work quickly because its topics are discrete and testable, so a term of focused hours usually shows on a paper. The sciences respond well where the loss is traceable to one mechanism, such as moles arithmetic in 4CH1. The slowest returns come from English Literature, where the gain is a skill built over months. Two subjects with eight consecutive weeks each beats five subjects with three hours each, every time, and that is the whole argument for choosing rather than spreading.

What does the on-screen programming paper in Computer Science 4CP0 do to the cost of tuition?+

It raises it, because the component demands a tutor who can write working code fluently in the school's chosen language as well as teach a syllabus. That combination is thin on the ground in the Emirates, so quotes sit above the ordinary band and availability is tighter than for other subjects. It is also the clearest case for live video rather than a visiting tutor: screen-sharing an editor while a student writes and debugs their own program is a better teaching tool than sitting beside one laptop, and it costs no travel.

Our son is entered for Foundation tier in maths. Is that a reason to spend less?+

It is a reason to spend differently. Foundation tier in Mathematics A caps the award at grade 5, so hours aimed at a 7 are hours spent on topics he will not be asked about. Two sensible options exist. Fund a smaller number of hours squarely inside the Foundation content and target the top of that range, or raise the tier with the school in the autumn term, while entries can still change, and then fund the Higher content properly. What makes no sense is paying specialist rates for Higher teaching against an entry that caps the result.

We were quoted a monthly figure rather than an hourly one. What should the invoice itemise?+

Four things: the number of sessions, the length of each, whether written work is marked between them, and what happens to an unused session. Monthly packages in this market run at about AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, so the per-hour maths is easy once the session count is explicit. Ask whether the figure includes VAT as quoted, and get the answer in writing. A package that does not state its session length is not a price, it is a deposit.

What will the exam itself cost if our daughter sits Edexcel papers as a private candidate?+

More than the board fee, and it is not published centrally for the UAE. A candidate not entered through her own school needs a centre that accepts external candidates, and those centres set their own administrative charges on top of the Pearson entry fee. Ask the centre for its fee list in writing, together with its internal deadline, which always falls before the board deadline. Capacity matters as much as cost here: popular centres fill, and a late private entry can fail on space rather than on money. Start the conversation a full series ahead.

A grade came back one mark under a boundary. What can be done and how fast?+

A review of marking is requested through the centre rather than by the family, carries an administrative fee set by the board, and runs on a deadline measured in weeks after results day rather than months. So the sequence is: get the paper and the mark breakdown, read them against the mark scheme, and decide quickly. Two or three paid hours of analysis at that moment is a rational purchase, because it tells you whether a review is plausible or whether an entry in the next series is the better use of the same money.

Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 came up when we asked about permits. What does it mean for us?+

It introduced the UAE private tuition work permit, issued by MoHRE. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible holders include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals providing private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. For a parent paying an individual directly, the practical step is simply to ask whether they hold it. The permit is permission to charge, not a teaching qualification, and the two should not be confused.

Our son's English coursework folder is due next week. What are we allowed to pay a tutor to do with it?+

Teach the skill it assesses, model an equivalent example that is not his task, question the draft he has already made, and give feedback he then acts on alone. Not supply sentences, paragraphs or structure for submission. The useful test is whether the session could be described out loud to the school's exams officer without discomfort. Reading a draft and saying which paragraph fails to answer the question passes that test. Dictating a replacement paragraph does not, and the consequence of crossing it falls on the student under board malpractice rules, whoever was paid.

We asked for a tutor to come to our villa in Dubai. What are we actually buying instead?+

One-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram offers home visits only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. The cost case for that is straightforward: an in-home hour in this market runs AED 180 to AED 500 with travel inside the fee, and the pool shrinks to whoever can reach your gate by five o'clock. Over video the same money buys the specialist who teaches your child's exact Edexcel code, and a 5pm session starts at 5pm rather than whenever Sheikh Zayed Road allows.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education add to our tutoring bill if the Ministry does not count them?+

They are separate questions. For British-track equivalency, the Ministry of Education counts five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not among the five. They are still mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, so they affect the school report and the timetable. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in these subjects and sets instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, and schools need prior Ministry permission to use different content, so honest support follows the school's own materials.

Nobody covers Accounting at the hour we want. What happens then?+

You are told, before any money changes hands. Scarce codes in this market include Accounting, Further Pure Mathematics and the on-screen Computer Science component, and the honest answer when no specialist holds your slot is a choice: wait for an opening, shift the session to a weekend morning where availability is better, or accept a match based outside the UAE with the time zone written into the schedule. What should not happen is a generalist being presented at a specialist rate, which is how most disappointing tutoring in the Emirates starts.

How do we know after a month whether the money is working?+

Check three things rather than asking how it is going. First, has at least one timed section been attempted under exam conditions and marked against the mark scheme? Second, has the list of weak topics got shorter, with a reason for each removal? Third, can your child say what the last session was about without prompting? Four hours at the mid-market band is AED 600 to AED 1,200. If none of those three has moved, the diagnosis or the match is wrong, and the right response is to change one of them rather than to buy more hours.

Does Ramadan change what we pay for in a month?+

It changes when sessions happen, not what they cost. Ramadan has recently fallen across the UAE mock window, schools shorten the day, and the usual 5pm slot stops working for most families. Moving sessions to post-Iftar hours keeps the plan intact for the month; cancelling four weeks removes roughly a tenth of a year's tuition at exactly the point where a mock result is meant to be driving decisions. Agree the shifted timetable before the month begins rather than renegotiating it weekly, and keep the marking cycle running even if the lesson count drops.
