Edexcel IGCSE Home Tutor in the UAE

Families searching for an Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in the UAE are usually solving two problems at once: a Pearson International GCSE grade that has stalled, and a school system answerable to five separate authorities. IB Gram teaches Pearson Edexcel subjects one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, for families in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain and the northern emirates. Nobody is sent to a UAE address. The subject specialist arrives on the screen instead, which is why a family in Fujairah can book the same 4CH1 teacher as a family in Jumeirah.

  • Teaching keyed to the Pearson code printed on the statement of entry
  • Sessions on Gulf Standard Time, including post-Iftar slots through Ramadan
  • Each tutor's MoHRE private tuition work permit position stated before you book
  • One free trial lesson, with no payment taken before it happens

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The system a Pearson Edexcel entry has to pass through in the UAE

An Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in the UAE is a tutor who teaches the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE specification, one student at a time, in the hours a UAE school day leaves free. IB Gram delivers that as one-to-one tuition over live video rather than by sending anyone to a villa or an apartment; home visits are a service we run in India only. The reason for keeping it on screen is not cost. It is that a Pearson code is narrow. A tutor who has taught 4PH1 Paper 1 for six series is not interchangeable with a tutor who has taught Cambridge 0625, and in a country where the nearest specialist may be two emirates away, the screen is what makes the match possible at all.

The board matters more than most families are told. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE qualifications are graded 9 to 1, sat in a May or June series and again in a November series, and built from papers whose codes begin with a 4: Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics is 4PH1, Chemistry is 4CH1, Biology is 4BI1, English Language A is 4EA1. Those codes are printed on the statement of entry the school issues. A parent who knows the code can tell a tutor exactly what to prepare. A parent who only knows the word IGCSE is relying on a guess, and across two years of teaching, a wrong guess is expensive.

The second thing shaping an Edexcel plan here is not the board at all. It is which authority holds your child's school file. Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain answer to the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah those bodies approve curricula, courses and assessment methods as well as fees, so the regulator is not only an inspector.

Two federal rules then sit on top of the Pearson timetable. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in UAE private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, so an Edexcel child is carrying those alongside nine or ten subject entries. And at the far end, the Ministry of Education's equivalency route for the British track asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among those five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One competitor page ranking for this query tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects. The Ministry's own July 2026 clarification, as reported by Gulf Today, says five.

What IB Gram does inside that system is narrow and worth stating plainly. We teach, we review the student's own work and we give feedback on it. We do not write an Edexcel coursework folder, we do not supply Pearson mark schemes or past papers as downloads, and we hold no approval, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or Pearson, because no such thing exists for a tutoring platform. What we can do is name the code, name the permit position, teach on your time zone, and tell you honestly when no specialist is free for the subject and tier you need.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Pearson Edexcel plan rarely starts and ends in Year 11. UAE families who stay on the British track move through four stages, and each one has a different relationship with the emirate regulator and with the Ministry's equivalency file. The notes below describe what each stage is and what it means specifically for a child schooled in the Emirates.

ILSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Pearson International Lower Secondary

The three years before the International GCSE course begins. Schools use this stage to set the maths route, decide who will be entered for separate sciences rather than a double award, and build the written English that Paper 1 of 4EA1 later rewards. No external grade is reported to a university, which is exactly why the stage is quietly decisive: the tier a child is placed in for Year 10 is usually decided on Year 9 evidence.

In the Emirates this stage is also where the mandatory UAE subjects become real work. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes strictly prohibited. A Year 8 child is therefore carrying an Arabic stream, an Islamic Education stream and a social studies stream on top of the British curriculum. Families who leave Arabic until Year 10 usually find it competing with 4MA1 revision.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (9-1)

The two-year course that ends in the Pearson papers. Most UAE schools enter eight to ten subjects, built from a compulsory core of maths, English and science plus options. Grades are reported on the 9 to 1 scale rather than A* to G. Some subjects are tiered, with a Foundation entry carrying a lower grade ceiling than a Higher one, and the tier is fixed by the entry the school submits rather than by anything the student does in the exam hall.

This is the stage where an Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in the UAE is usually hired, and where the regulator becomes visible to parents. Your school's inspection report names its licensed curriculum and its attainment judgements subject by subject, and it is published by KHDA, ADEK or SPEA depending on the emirate. Entries are made by the school as an examination centre registered with Pearson, not by the family, so the practical move at this stage is a conversation with the exams officer rather than with the board.

IASAges 16-17 · Year 12

Pearson International AS Level

The first half of the International A Level, taken as a qualification in its own right or as a staging post. Subject choice narrows to three or four, and the gap between a grade 7 at International GCSE and an AS grade A is wider than most students expect, because the command verbs change: describe and explain give way to analyse, evaluate and derive. The step is steepest in maths and the sciences.

The UAE connection here is the equivalency file. The Ministry's British track asks for one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, on top of the five IGCSE subjects. A family planning a federal university application should know which of those two shapes their child's timetable actually produces, and should confirm the current requirement on moe.gov.ae rather than relying on any tutoring page, including this one.

IALAges 17-18 · Year 13

Pearson International A Level

The full two-year A Level, assessed in units. Students who struggled with the jump from International GCSE often did so because nobody rebuilt the foundations the new papers assume: algebraic fluency for the maths and physics routes, quantitative chemistry for 4CH1 successors, and the discipline of writing to a mark allocation rather than to a word count.

UAE schools sit these in the same May or June and November windows as the International GCSE papers, which means a household with a Year 11 and a Year 13 can face two sets of entry deadlines, two sets of results dates and one very crowded April. Planning tuition hours around that overlap is a scheduling problem, not an academic one, and it is easier to solve when both students are taught over video on the same evening grid.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Pearson codes are the useful unit here, because two subjects with the same name can be different qualifications. The list below gives the codes UAE schools most often enter, what each specification actually rewards, and where marks go missing. Confirm every code against your child's statement of entry before booking hours against it.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

Two written papers of equal weight, calculator permitted on both. The Higher tier opens the top of the grade scale; a Foundation entry caps it. Marks leave in the same three places every series: algebraic manipulation done in the head, geometry questions where no diagram is annotated, and multi-step problems where the method mark is lost because no working is written down.

Mathematics B (4MB1)

Single tier

A different specification from Mathematics A, not a tier of it. It leans harder on pure technique and is entered by a smaller set of UAE schools, often those pointing students at International A Level Mathematics. A tutor prepared on 4MA1 past papers is not automatically prepared on this. Ask which of the two is on the entry before the first session.

Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

Single tier

Taken alongside Mathematics A by students heading for engineering or economics routes. It covers material most IGCSE students never meet, including calculus and series, and it is where a strong mathematician in a UAE school finally gets stretched. The common failure is not difficulty but pace: schools often timetable it in fewer lessons than the content needs.

Physics (4PH1)

Single tier

Two written papers, with Paper 1 carrying the larger share of the marks. The practical skills are assessed in writing rather than in a lab, which makes them teachable over video: students lose marks on variable control, on reading a graph gradient as a physical quantity, and on unit conversion inside a multi-step calculation. Confirm current durations and weightings on the live specification.

Chemistry (4CH1)

Single tier

The specification that most often brings a UAE family to a tutor, because quantitative chemistry is unforgiving. Moles, concentration and gas-volume calculations carry several marks each and are routinely lost to a rounding error or a missed mole ratio. Organic mechanisms and the tests for ions are memory work that a weekly recall routine fixes faster than any amount of re-teaching.

Biology (4BI1)

Single tier

Deceptive, because the content reads as readable prose and the marks are allocated against precise terminology. A student who writes that a substance moves through the membrane when the mark scheme wants diffusion down a concentration gradient gets nothing. Tutoring work here is mostly command-term discipline and the practical-skills questions on enzymes, osmosis and transpiration.

Science (Double Award) (4SD0)

Single tier

Biology, chemistry and physics condensed into a two-grade award rather than three separate entries. UAE schools use it to keep the option block open, and it suits students whose strength is elsewhere. It compresses content rather than simplifying it, so the tutoring problem is coverage and triage: deciding which topics are worth the remaining weeks.

English Language A (4EA1)

Single tier, with an optional coursework route

Non-fiction reading and transactional writing on one paper, literary texts and imaginative writing on the other, with a coursework alternative available in place of the second written paper. The reading questions are where UAE students lose most: they summarise the passage instead of analysing the writer's method, and they ignore the mark allocation that tells them how many points to make.

English Literature (4ET1)

Single tier

Closed-text and set-text questions on poetry, prose and drama. The marks follow argument and quotation, not plot retelling. Students in the Emirates often arrive with strong content knowledge and no essay structure, so the work is usually building a thesis-led paragraph pattern and a bank of short quotations that can be deployed under timed conditions.

Economics (4EC1)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy decides the grade. A correctly labelled and correctly shifted diagram carries marks that no amount of written explanation can recover, and UAE students who have learnt the theory verbally usually cannot draw it under pressure. Data-response questions reward reading the figures given rather than importing remembered examples.

Business (4BS1)

Single tier

Applied rather than theoretical: the marks sit in applying a concept to the case material in front of the student, and in evaluation that reaches a judgement. Generic answers about marketing or motivation score the knowledge mark and stop there. Tutoring focuses on the evaluate command and on the arithmetic of ratios and break-even.

Information and Communication Technology (4IT1)

Single tier

Assessed in part on practical competence with documents, spreadsheets and databases, which translates well to a shared screen. Students who use software daily still lose marks because they cannot describe what they did in the specification's vocabulary, and because they skip the evaluation section at the end of a practical task.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways UAE families use Edexcel tuition, all delivered one-to-one over live video. The right one depends less on budget than on where in the two-year course you are standing, and on whether the problem is a subject, a tier or a calendar.

Weekly subject teaching, Years 10 and 11

One or two sessions a week against a single Pearson code, running alongside the school's scheme of work rather than ahead of it. This is the shape that actually moves a grade, because it gives time for the slow work: fixing algebra underneath 4MA1, or rebuilding quantitative chemistry for 4CH1 before the topic tests arrive.

  • Session timed after the school run and before homework, on Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutor works from the school's topic order, which the parent supplies
  • Written feedback after each session naming the specific marks lost
  • Reviewed termly against the school's own assessment reports

Series-block intensive

A concentrated run of sessions in the eight to twelve weeks before a Pearson series, built around timed papers and the student's own mock scripts. The work is diagnosis rather than coverage: identify which question types are repeatedly losing marks, drill those, and leave the topics already secure alone.

  • Starts from a marked mock script, not from the first page of the specification
  • Timed sections under exam conditions, then marked against the published criteria
  • Scheduling adjusted around Ramadan and the school's own study-leave dates
  • Stops when the series starts rather than running through the exam weeks

Tier and route consultation

A short block for the decision points rather than the teaching: Foundation against Higher on 4MA1, Mathematics A against Mathematics B, separate sciences against the double award, and whether a coursework route in English Language A suits the student. These choices are made by the school on the entry form, so the aim is to arrive at that conversation prepared.

  • A diagnostic session against past-paper questions at both tiers
  • A written summary of what each route caps and what it opens
  • The questions to put to the school's exams officer, in writing
  • No teaching hours committed until the route is settled

Mandatory UAE subjects stream

Separate support for Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies, which run alongside the Edexcel timetable in every UAE private school and are marked by the school rather than by Pearson. Teaching follows the school's own curriculum, because KHDA guidance is explicit that different or additional content for these subjects needs prior Ministry permission.

  • Streamed by first language, matching the school's own class organisation
  • Works from the material the school issues, not substitute content
  • Usually a single weekly session rather than an exam-season block
  • Booked separately so it does not eat the subject-teaching hours

What a UAE parent is actually asking for with this search

A parent typing edexcel igcse home tutor in the uae into Google is asking for a tutor who knows the Pearson specification and who is available in the hours between the school run and bedtime. The phrase home tutor is doing two jobs in that search: it means one-to-one rather than a group class, and it means at a time and place that fits the household. IB Gram answers the first job exactly and the second one differently. Lessons are one-to-one, and they happen over live video rather than in the living room.

That is worth being direct about, because the alternative is to let a family discover it after booking. A tutor travelling across Dubai in the 5pm direction can serve perhaps two households an evening, and the candidates are whoever lives within reach. On video the constraint disappears, and the question changes from who is nearby to who has taught 4PH1 Paper 2 repeatedly and can explain why a student keeps losing the gradient marks. For a minority code such as 4PM1 or 4EC1, the second question is the only one with a useful answer in most emirates.

The rest of this page is built around the part of the problem nobody else writing for this search seems to address: the system the entry sits inside. Which authority holds the school file, what the Pearson grade scale means against the Ministry's equivalency floor, who sets the tier, when the entry closes, which credential a UAE tutor is actually required to hold, and where the line sits on coursework. Those are the things that change what a family should buy, and in what order.

02

Five authorities, one British curriculum: who signed off on your child's entry

There is no single national regulator for UAE private schools, and a family that assumes KHDA covers the whole country will look for documents that do not exist for them. Dubai has KHDA. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain have ADEK. Sharjah has SPEA. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. That is the complete map, and it determines where the inspection report is published and who a parent escalates to.

The remit is not identical across the five. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is curriculum and assessment approval, not inspection alone, so a Sharjah school's internal assessment calendar sits inside an approved framework rather than being set freely by the head of department. Underneath all five sits the federal baseline: private schools are not obliged to follow any particular curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, provided they adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

None of these five bodies approves individual tutors, and none of them issues a credential a tutoring platform can hold. A permit for a training institute with premises in Dubai is a specific KHDA instrument with its own application sequence, initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. It is not a tutor licence, and any provider describing its individual tutors as approved by a UAE regulator is describing something that does not exist. What the regulator genuinely gives a parent is the school's published inspection judgements, and that is more useful than a badge.

The grade scale on a Pearson certificate, read against the Ministry's floor

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE qualifications report on a 9 to 1 scale. Grade 9 is the top; grade 1 is the bottom. Parents who sat O Levels or lettered GCSEs read that scale wrongly in a predictable direction, assuming 9 to 1 maps onto A* to G one step at a time. It does not: the numbered scale has more points at the top of the range, so the distance between a 7 and a 9 is a real academic distance rather than a relabelling.

Where the scale becomes a UAE question is the equivalency file. The Ministry of Education's British-track requirement, as set out in its July 2026 clarification, is that a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. Alongside that sits one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One page currently ranking for UAE IGCSE queries states six subjects. The Ministry's clarification says five.

The practical consequence reorders a family's spending. If a child is sitting nine Pearson subjects and three of them are already comfortably above the floor, the equivalency risk lives in the weakest two, not in the strong seven. Hours bought for a subject already at grade 6 buy university competitiveness; hours bought for a subject sitting at grade 2 buy the file itself. Those are different purchases with different urgency, and no tutoring page can tell you which you need without seeing the mock results. Confirm the current requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate before acting on any figure here.

04

Higher or Foundation: the entry form sets the ceiling before any teaching starts

Some Pearson International GCSE subjects are tiered and some are not, and families routinely assume the wrong one. Mathematics A is tiered: a Foundation entry and a Higher entry sit different papers and reach different parts of the grade scale, with the Foundation route capped below the top grades. Most of the sciences and most of the humanities on the Pearson International GCSE list are single-tier, so every candidate sits the same papers and the whole scale is in reach.

The decision is made by the school, on the entry it submits, and it is usually made on Year 10 evidence. That timing is the problem. A student who was a borderline case in the spring of Year 10 and has since worked hard can be sitting a Foundation paper in Year 11 with a ceiling they no longer deserve, simply because nobody revisited the decision. The window to change it is the school's own entry amendment window, which closes well before the papers, and the conversation has to be opened by the parent.

This is where a short diagnostic is worth more than a term of teaching. Put the student in front of Higher-tier questions from a past series, mark them honestly, and the answer is usually obvious within an hour. If the Higher paper is reachable with support, that is a case to take to the exams officer in writing before the amendment window shuts. If it is not, Foundation is the right entry and the hours should go into securing the top of that tier rather than fighting the ceiling. Always confirm the tier and the code printed on the statement of entry before booking anything.

Two Pearson series a year, counted backwards from the paper

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year. Having two series is the single most useful fact in a UAE family's planning, and it is the fact competitor pages for this query leave out entirely. It means a disappointing summer result has a route in the following winter, and it means a student who joined a UAE school late can sometimes split their entries across two sittings rather than facing ten papers in one month.

Working backwards from published dates makes the shape obvious. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October through to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. So a November resit decided in late August produces a certificate in the following January, not the following summer. For a Year 11 student applying to a sixth form, that difference decides whether the grade arrives in time to matter.

Two cautions. Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each International GCSE series, a year or more before the first paper, and dates can be revised, so the official timetable page is the only safe source for your own series. And entries are made by the school as a registered centre, which means the deadline that actually binds your household is the internal one your exams officer sets, usually weeks before Pearson's. Ask for it in writing in September and put it in the calendar; it is the cheapest piece of exam planning available.

Is the tutor permitted to charge? What the permit does and does not certify

Private tutoring in the UAE is not unregulated. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is the credential the state actually issues to an individual tutor. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

The application route is public. MoHRE's own service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a two-working-day completion time and no fee listed. A tutor who has not obtained one when it costs nothing and takes two working days has made a choice, and a parent is entitled to ask about it before the first paid session.

What the permit does not do is the part that matters for an Edexcel entry. It does not assess subject knowledge, it does not mention a board, and it says nothing about whether the holder has ever taught 4CH1. It is a right-to-work document, not a teaching qualification. Two further conditions sit beside it: the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the holder's own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. Those press-reported rules should be checked against the current ADEK policy document before anyone relies on their exact wording.

Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies beside an Edexcel timetable

Every UAE private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies regardless of the international curriculum it is licensed to deliver. KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines set this out for Dubai and required implementation by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. The federal position is the same in substance: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, provided they adhere to the Ministry's general regulations.

The organisation rules are specific enough to matter to a tutor. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs. Schools must also ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval.

Two things follow for a family buying tuition. First, these subjects are marked by the school, not by Pearson, and they do not appear among the five subjects the Ministry counts for British-track equivalency, where Arabic and Islamic education are explicitly excluded. They still sit on the report card and still consume timetable hours. Second, the content is constrained: KHDA states that using any different or additional content for the mandatory subjects without prior Ministry permission is strictly prohibited. A tutor working on these subjects should be working from the school's own issued material, and any provider offering a better Arabic syllabus is offering something the rules do not allow.

What the UAE market charges for Edexcel teaching, and who published each figure

Three of the six best-ranking pages for UAE tutoring queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family pays school fees in. So here are the AED bands, each attributed to whoever published it, read in October 2026. These are market figures and not IB Gram prices; our own position is a free trial lesson and a conversation about what the specific subject and tier actually needs, because quoting an hourly rate before seeing a mock script is guesswork dressed as transparency.

The bands are wide for a reason worth understanding. At the bottom of the market the tutor is often a university student with no board specialism stated and no permit position published. In the middle sits a qualified subject tutor who may or may not have taught the Pearson code your child is entered for. At the top, the premium is usually attached to a claim about examiner experience, and examiner status should never be taken on assertion, nor read as access to marking, boundaries or paper content.

Useful context for any of these numbers: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are the household's fixed education cost and they are flat this year. Tutoring is the variable one, which is why deciding how many hours to buy, and against which subject, is a decision worth making with a marked script in front of you rather than a price list.

A tutor in the living room against a subject specialist on screen

This is the comparison a family searching for a home tutor deserves to see made properly rather than avoided. Both arrangements are one-to-one. Both can be good. They differ on four things: who is in the candidate pool, what fraction of the paid hour is teaching, what evidence you can check before committing, and what happens in the weeks when the schedule breaks.

The candidate pool is the decisive one. A tutor travelling to a Khalifa City villa is drawn from whoever will make that drive on a weekday evening. For 4MA1 that pool is probably adequate. For 4PM1, 4EC1 or English Literature at the top of the scale it frequently is not, and in Umm Al Quwain or Fujairah it is close to empty. On video the pool is every specialist available on Gulf Standard Time, which is why edexcel igcse online tuition in dubai and the same tuition in Dibba are the same product with the same teacher list.

The second difference is arithmetic. A travelling tutor crossing Dubai in the 5pm direction is pricing the journey into the rate, whether or not the invoice says so, and a Bestimate in-home band of AED 180 to 350 against an online band of AED 150 to 300 is roughly that gap. The honest counterweight is that a tutor in the room can read a distracted eleven-year-old better than a camera can, and some students genuinely focus better with someone physically present. For an exam-year student working on timed Pearson papers and marked scripts, the shared screen is the stronger tool: the script is on it, annotated, and the session can be recorded for revision.

Coursework, practicals and the line a tutor must not cross on a Pearson entry

Where a Pearson International GCSE includes work produced outside an exam hall, a tutor's role narrows sharply and should be stated in advance. English Language A offers a coursework route in place of one written component. Information and Communication Technology assesses practical competence. In the sciences the practical skills are examined through written questions rather than through assessed lab work, which changes the shape of the help but not the principle.

The principle is simple and it is the whole of our position. A tutor may teach the skill, explain the assessment criteria, model the technique on a different question, ask the questions that make a student see a weakness in their own draft, and give written feedback on work the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write, redraft to completion, or supply text for a coursework folder. One page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is a malpractice trigger for the student and it is not a service we will provide at any price.

The same line applies to materials. We do not reproduce or distribute Pearson specifications, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. We cite them and link to the official pages on qualifications.pearson.com so a parent can read the primary source, which is also the only place a current paper structure or weighting can be confirmed. And no tutor, however many series they have taught, can tell you what the grade boundaries will be or guarantee the grade your child will finish with. Anyone who offers either is selling something they do not have.

What an inspection report tells you about a 4CH1 grade, and what it does not

Inspection reports are the most useful free document in UAE education and the most commonly misread. A band such as Outstanding or Good is a judgement about a school, built from attainment and progress evidence across phases and subjects, published by KHDA, ADEK or SPEA depending on the emirate. It is not a prediction about one child in one subject, and a strong overall band is entirely compatible with a weak cohort in one science in one year group.

Read it the way a tutor would. Go past the headline band to the subject-level and phase-level judgements, because that is where a parent learns whether secondary science attainment was judged weaker than secondary maths, and whether progress was judged weaker than attainment. Attainment against progress is the distinction that matters most: a school where attainment is high but progress is only acceptable is a school where able children are coasting, and that is a different tutoring problem from a school where both are low.

Then weigh it against the evidence you already own and nobody else has: your child's marked mock script. The report describes a school in the year it was inspected. The script describes your child this term, question by question, with the lost marks visible. When the two disagree, the script wins for the purpose of deciding what to buy. The report is how you judge the school; the script is how you judge where the next ten hours should go, and starting from it is the difference between tuition that moves a grade and tuition that reassures a parent.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across the UAE

Who regulates your child's school changes what you can look up, who answers a complaint and where the inspection report lives. It does not change the Pearson specification, and because lessons run over live video it does not change who can teach your child either. The notes below are the practical differences, emirate by emirate.

Dubai

KHDA territory: 227 private schools in 2024-25 serving 387,441 enrolments across 17 curricula, with the UK track the largest at 37%. The deepest pool of Edexcel-entering schools in the country, and the emirate where inspection reports are easiest to find and read.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools here. Abu Dhabi families often find Edexcel option subjects taught in smaller cohorts than in Dubai, which makes a one-to-one specialist on video the practical answer for a minority subject such as 4PM1 or 4EC1.

Al Ain

Also ADEK, not a separate authority, which surprises parents who assume the regulator follows the city. Fewer British-curriculum schools than the coast, so subject availability rather than teaching quality is usually the constraint. Evening video sessions sidestep the drive entirely.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a wider remit than inspection alone, so a Sharjah school's assessment calendar is an approved document rather than an internal choice.

Ajman

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority. Families in Al Nuaimiya and Al Rashidiya often commute towards Sharjah or Dubai for a British-curriculum place, which makes a 5pm or 6pm video slot more realistic than any travelling arrangement.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under the federal Ministry of Education. The smallest British-curriculum population in the country, and the clearest case for online delivery: the chance that a 4CH1 specialist happens to live within driving distance of Al Salamah is close to nil, and on video it is irrelevant.

Ras Al Khaimah

Regulated by the emirate's own Department of Knowledge, which like SPEA approves curricula, courses and assessment methods as well as fees. Families in Al Nakheel and Al Hamra typically have one or two Edexcel-entering schools within reach, so option blocks are tight and tier decisions are made early.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education supervision, on the east coast, where a two-hour round trip to a Dubai tutor would consume more time than the lesson. Students in Fujairah city, Dibba and Khor Fakkan book exactly the same Pearson specialists as a family in Dubai Marina, on the same evening grid.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai, UK-curriculum cluster

The densest concentration of Pearson and Cambridge entries in the country, spread across Al Barsha, Jumeirah, Nad Al Sheba and Dubai Hills. Option blocks here are wide enough that a student can usually sit three separate sciences, which is why Dubai families more often need depth in one subject than coverage across many.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Hartland International School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK-regulated British-curriculum schools concentrated on the island, in Khalifa City and along the Al Ain road. Cohorts are smaller than Dubai's, so a minority option such as Further Pure Mathematics or Economics may run with a single teacher and no second opinion available inside the school.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Ain English Speaking School

Sharjah and the northern emirates

SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah and the federal Ministry elsewhere. Families here frequently choose between a nearer school with a narrow option block and a longer commute to a wider one, and that trade-off is the single most common reason a northern-emirates parent starts looking for an Edexcel tutor.

  • Sharjah English School
  • The Westminster School Sharjah
  • RAK Academy
  • Our Own English High School Fujairah

Schools are named here as context for the UAE British-curriculum system only. IB Gram has no affiliation, relationship or endorsement from any school or school group named on this page, and every name should be checked against the relevant regulator's own school listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes, not the subject names

Start by sending the statement of entry or the subject list with the Pearson codes on it. 4MA1 Higher is a different brief from 4MB1, and a double award is a different brief from three separate sciences. This single step removes most of the mismatch risk before anyone is matched.

  2. 02

    Send a marked script

A mock paper with the examiner's or teacher's marks on it is worth more than any description of the problem. It shows which question types are failing and whether the issue is content, technique or timing. Where no script exists, the trial lesson produces one from a past-paper section.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson with the proposed tutor, at no cost and before any payment is taken. Use it to ask which Pearson codes they have taught and in which series, how they would approach the weakness the script shows, and what their private tuition work permit position is. All three are fair questions.

  4. 04

Set the weekly slot on your clock

Sessions are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, around the school run, prayer times and the household's evening. Ramadan slots move after Iftar. The slot matters more than families expect: a session scheduled when a student is already exhausted produces attendance rather than learning.

  5. 05

Review against the school's own reports

Each term, read the school's assessment report beside the tutor's written feedback. If the two disagree, that is the conversation to have. If neither shows movement after a term of consistent attendance, change the tutor or change the plan rather than buying more of the same hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the paper code

Tutors are proposed against the Pearson code on the entry rather than against the word IGCSE. A teacher who has taken students through 4CH1 repeatedly knows which quantitative chemistry questions recur and where the method marks sit. That specificity is the main thing a video lesson buys a family outside central Dubai.

The permit position stated, not implied

Each tutor's MoHRE private tuition work permit position is stated before you book. The permit is free and takes two working days, so there is no reason to be vague about it. We also say plainly what it does not certify: it is a right-to-work document, not evidence of subject depth.

No approval we do not hold

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or Pearson, and we do not imply one. No UAE authority approves individual tutors. We name the regulators because understanding them helps you, not because any of them endorses us.

The honesty line published in advance

A tutor teaches, reviews the student's own work and gives feedback on it. We will not write or finish coursework on a student's behalf, supply mark schemes as downloads, predict grade boundaries, or promise the grade a student will end up with. Publishing that before you ask is more useful than a promise, because it tells you what to expect in week ten.

Availability stated honestly

If no specialist is free for the code and tier you need, we say so and offer a waiting position rather than a generalist. For minority codes in the northern emirates that is a real possibility, and a family deserves to hear it before a term of hours is committed to the wrong teacher.

One evening grid for the whole country

A family in Khor Fakkan books the same Pearson specialists on the same timetable as a family in Jumeirah, because the lesson runs over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Geography stops being a constraint on teacher quality, which is the entire argument for delivering it this way.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Our school enters Pearson Edexcel papers. Which UAE authority actually signed off on that?+

Your emirate's regulator licenses the school and its curriculum, not Pearson's specification. In Dubai that is KHDA; in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, ADEK; in Sharjah, SPEA; in Ras Al Khaimah, the Department of Knowledge; and in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, the federal Ministry of Education. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves curricula, courses and assessment methods as well as fees, so the choice of board sits inside an approved framework there. Pearson's own involvement is as the awarding organisation and the school's examination centre registration. The practical answer to who chose Edexcel is the school's leadership, inside the licence its regulator granted.

Pearson grades International GCSE from 9 down to 1. Which of those grades clears the Ministry's floor?+

The Ministry of Education's British-track requirement, as reported from its July 2026 clarification, is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3. On the numbered scale that puts grade 3 at the stated floor, so grades 3 and above count and grades 2 and 1 do not. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five subjects. Clearing the floor is not the same as being competitive for a course, though: a grade 4 in maths counts towards the five but rarely supports that subject at A Level. Verify the current requirement on moe.gov.ae before relying on it.

Who decides whether my son sits the Higher or the Foundation tier of 4MA1?+

The school does, on the entry it submits to Pearson, usually on evidence from Year 10. The family is not asked to sign anything. That is why the decision is worth revisiting: a student who was borderline in spring and has since worked hard can be sitting a Foundation paper with a grade ceiling they no longer deserve. The route back is the centre's own entry amendment window, which closes well before the papers. Put the request in writing to the exams officer, with evidence, and bring Higher-tier past-paper work to the conversation. An hour of honest diagnostic marking usually settles which tier is the right one.

What would a tutor have to show us to prove they teach the Edexcel specification rather than the Cambridge one?+

Ask three concrete questions. First, which Pearson codes they have taught and in which series: 4CH1 and 0620 are different specifications with different paper structures. Second, how the practical skills are assessed on the Pearson science papers, since a Cambridge-trained tutor may expect a different arrangement. Third, what changes in their teaching between Mathematics A and Mathematics B. A tutor who has genuinely taught the board answers all three without hesitation. There is no Pearson certificate for tutors that would settle this on paper, so the trial lesson is where the question gets answered. Use it for exactly that.

Our daughter is at school in Ras Al Khaimah. Does KHDA guidance apply to her Edexcel timetable at all?+

Not directly. KHDA regulates private education in Dubai. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge, which regulates private education in the emirate and approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. The federal baseline still applies to her: Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies are required of private schools whatever international curriculum they are licensed to teach. So the mandatory subjects are on her timetable, but the document setting out how they are organised is her own emirate's, not Dubai's. The Pearson specification is identical either way, which is why her tutor can be the same one a Dubai student uses.

The school has offered the November series instead of June. What does that change about the next six months?+

It moves every date, including the one that matters most. Pearson runs International GCSE papers in May or June and again in November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Results follow the series, not the school year: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, where June 2026 results reached them on 20 August 2026. So a November entry means teaching peaks in September and October rather than April, and the certificate arrives in January. Check your own series on the official Pearson timetable page, since provisional timetables can be revised before they are confirmed.

Is a Science Double Award entry counted as one subject or two for Ministry equivalency?+

The Pearson Science Double Award produces two grades rather than one, which is why it is called a double award. How the Ministry's attestation process counts it towards the five accredited subjects on the British track is a question for the Ministry or your emirate's attestation authority, and we will not publish an answer we have not read on moe.gov.ae. What we can say is that it is worth settling before Year 11, not after results. If the count matters to a federal university plan, ask the school's university counsellor to confirm it in writing with the authority rather than relying on any tutoring provider's interpretation.

We live in Khalifa City and every Edexcel Chemistry tutor we found advertises in Dubai. What are the options?+

This is the exact problem online delivery solves. A tutor travelling to Khalifa City is drawn from whoever will make that drive on a weekday evening, and for 4CH1 at the top of the grade scale that pool is thin. Over live video the pool is every Pearson chemistry specialist free on Gulf Standard Time, and the drive disappears from both the schedule and the rate. IB Gram does not send anyone to a UAE address; home visits are a service we run in India only. The session happens on a shared screen, with your daughter's marked script open and annotated as it is discussed.

How far ahead of a Pearson paper does the entry actually close?+

Months, and the deadline that binds your household is earlier than Pearson's. Final entries go to Pearson from the school as a registered examination centre, and the school sets its own internal cut-off weeks before that so it can collate and check the data. The arithmetic is easiest to see on the November series: the November 2026 written timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, which means the entry decisions behind it were made and checked over the summer, while the student was still thinking of the exam as something far off. The May/June series runs on the same long lead. Ask your exams officer in September for the internal deadline in writing, and put it in the family calendar alongside the paper dates.

My son takes the coursework route in English Language A. Where exactly does a tutor's help have to stop?+

At the point where words stop being his. A tutor may teach the skill, explain how the assessment criteria allocate marks, model the technique on a different text, ask the questions that make him see a weakness in his own draft, and give written feedback on what he has written. A tutor may not write a section, redraft it to completion, or supply text to be used. That line is not ours; it is what keeps the submission his own work and keeps him clear of a malpractice finding. Any provider offering to finish the folder is offering to put his qualification at risk.

The private tuition permit is free and takes two working days. Does that make it worth checking?+

It makes it more worth checking, not less. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services under the service name Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time. A tutor who has not obtained a free document that takes two days has made a choice worth asking about. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount you are quoted with scepticism.

Our school moved from Cambridge to Pearson between Year 10 and Year 11. What has to be re-taught?+

Less content than you fear and more technique than you expect. The underlying subject knowledge largely transfers, but the paper structures, the mark allocations and the command verbs differ, and students lose marks on the shape of the answer rather than on the facts. The first job is to get the statement of entry with the new codes on it and map each one to its current paper structure on qualifications.pearson.com. The second is timed practice on the new papers, marked against the published criteria. A term of that usually closes the gap; a year of re-teaching content is mostly wasted money.

Should my daughter take Arabic as a Pearson International GCSE, or is the school's Arabic lesson a separate requirement?+

They are separate things. The Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies lessons on her timetable are mandatory UAE subjects required of private schools whatever curriculum they are licensed to teach, marked by the school, and excluded from the five subjects the Ministry counts on the British track. A Pearson International GCSE in Arabic would be an additional external qualification with its own entry and grade. Whether to add it depends on her level and her timetable space, not on the mandatory requirement, which she is already meeting. Ask the school which Arabic stream she is in, since classes are organised separately by first language.

The inspection report praised teaching, but our son's 4CH1 mocks sit at grade 4. Which of the two should we believe?+

Both, for different purposes. The inspection judgement describes the school in the year it was inspected, built from attainment and progress evidence across phases and subjects. The mock script describes your son this term, question by question, with the lost marks visible. A well-judged school can still have a weak cohort in one science in one year group, and a strong overall band tells you nothing about quantitative chemistry. Use the report to judge the school and the script to decide where the next ten hours go. When they disagree about your child specifically, the script is the better evidence.

Our plan is a federal university here in the Emirates. Does an Edexcel International GCSE on its own get her there?+

No, and the Ministry's own requirement explains why. The British track asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. So the International GCSE is one half of the file and a post-16 qualification is the other. Nothing about tutoring is required for any of it, and we do not perform equivalency or attestation ourselves. Confirm the current rule on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority before building a plan on it.

If an August result is one grade short, what is the Pearson route and how long does it take?+

Two routes, on different clocks. A review of marking is requested through the school within the board's published window after results, and it can only correct a marking error, not a performance. A resit in the next series is the other route: Pearson runs International GCSE papers in May or June and again in November, so a result received on 20 August 2026 could in principle be followed by a November entry. Judging by the November 2025 series, whose results reached students on 22 January 2026, the new grade lands in January. Decide quickly, because the entry deadline sits weeks after results.

Start with the code on the entry form

An Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in the UAE is worth hiring when the match is made on the Pearson code rather than on the word IGCSE, and when the first session starts from a marked script rather than from chapter one. Send the statement of entry and whatever mock paper you have. We will tell you which specialist fits, state their permit position, and give you a free trial lesson before any payment. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is why a family in Fujairah and a family in Dubai Hills get the same teacher list. If nobody is free for the code and tier you need, we will say so.
