IB Tutor in Fujairah

Hiring an IB tutor in Fujairah is a narrower problem than hiring a tutor anywhere else in the UAE, because the emirate's private school set is small and its Diploma cohorts are smaller still. This page compares the three things an east-coast family is usually weighing against each other - the school's own support, a local generalist, and an agency that would send someone over the Hajar mountains - and explains what each one can and cannot reach. Lessons arranged here are one-to-one and delivered live online, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

A small emirate, a small cohort, and a subject nobody local teaches

Fujairah is the only emirate on the Gulf of Oman coast, cut off from the Dubai school belt by the Hajar mountains. That geography shapes the tutoring question more than anything in the Diploma itself. The private school set here is small. Where a Dubai campus might run two parallel Higher Level chemistry classes, a Fujairah school may run one group of eight, taught by the same person who covers physics and biology. When a student in that group stalls, the school has no second specialist to hand them to, and neither does the neighbourhood.

This is why the search looks different from the equivalent search in Dubai. A Dubai parent is choosing among many people who teach their subject. A Fujairah parent is usually choosing among three things that are not really the same thing: more of the school's own support, a local tutor who is strong generally but has never taught a Diploma paper, and an agency west of the mountains whose tutor would have to make a round trip of two to three hours around a sixty-minute lesson. The fourth option, a specialist reached over live video, exists precisely because the first three run out.

The Diploma itself also resists general tutoring in a way that surprises people. It is not six subjects with exams at the end. Each subject carries internally assessed work with its own criteria and mark allocations, each Higher Level course adds components a Standard Level student never meets, and the whole thing sits on top of the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, which run to school-set internal deadlines rather than to an examination timetable. A tutor who has not worked inside that structure will teach content competently and miss where the marks are going.

What a parent can check, before paying anything, is whether the person in front of them talks in components. A Diploma specialist will name the papers in your child's subject, say what each is worth at Higher and Standard Level, and ask to see the last marked script and the school's internal deadline list. A generalist will talk about confidence and rapport, which matter but are not diagnosable. That distinction is more useful on the east coast than anywhere else in the country, because the cost of a wrong match here includes the weeks it takes to notice.

Delivery is stated plainly so nothing has to be assumed. Tuition arranged through IB Gram is one-to-one and delivered live over video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Fujairah school day. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Fujairah address; visiting tuition is offered only in India. The gain for a family here is not convenience, it is reach: the pool stops being people willing to drive the mountain road twice a week and becomes people who teach your child's subject at your child's level for a living.

At a glance

  • Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, not by an emirate authority
  • Diploma cohorts here are often single-figure, so a stalled student has no second local specialist
  • Round trip to the Dubai school belt runs two to three hours around a one-hour lesson
  • Published market rates: AED 150-300 online, AED 180-500 for visiting tuition with travel inside the fee
  • Internally assessed work is marked against named criteria, which is where a general tutor loses the thread
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four programmes account for nearly every enquiry from this coast: the Diploma that a student is sitting or about to start, the Middle Years Programme that feeds it, the Primary Years Programme at continuum campuses, and Cambridge IGCSE, which is what most east-coast students actually hold when they reach sixth form.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject has externally examined papers and at least one internally assessed component marked against lettered criteria. Higher Level courses add material a Standard Level student never sees: a third paper in the sciences and in mathematics, extra depth in the options, longer written components in the humanities.

Diploma provision on the east coast is thin, so a Fujairah student's subject combination is frequently decided by what the school can staff rather than by what the student wants. That is the single most common reason a family here ends up looking for outside teaching: not weakness, but a subject taught by someone covering it as a second specialism.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject, each out of eight, reported on a 1-7 scale. The Personal Project in the final year is the first piece of long self-managed work a student produces, and it is a reliable predictor of how the Extended Essay will go two years later. Content is not harder than a national curriculum at the same age; the assessment language is unfamiliar.

Students moving from an MYP campus into a Fujairah IGCSE year group, or the other way, meet a different assessment system rather than a different difficulty level. Where that transfer is on the table, the useful question is which subjects the receiving school would enter them for and at which tier, because that decides whether any gap is content or technique.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units with no external examinations, reported against learner-profile attributes and subject strands. Support at this stage is about securing number facts, reading fluency and written structure rather than examination technique, and it is usually short: a defined block to close one identifiable gap, then a stop.

Few east-coast families ask about primary tuition, and most of those who do are moving between systems. The honest answer for a Fujairah parent here is often that nothing is needed yet, which is worth saying because the alternative is a weekly commitment running for years against no measurable target.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE, the local feeder

Most students on this coast reach sixth form with IGCSEs rather than the MYP. Each subject has a four-digit code that governs papers, tier and practicals. Cambridge runs June and November series and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong zone's timetable.

The tier taken at IGCSE decides which Diploma routes stay open. Core-tier mathematics generally closes Higher Level Analysis and Approaches, and on the east coast the fallback is not a different sixth form down the road. That makes the Year 10 tier conversation unusually consequential for a Fujairah family.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects east-coast families ask about most often, with the component that usually decides the grade named rather than implied. Where a Higher Level course adds a paper, the paper is stated.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator and carries 30 per cent at Higher Level and 40 per cent at Standard Level. Higher Level adds Paper 3, worth 20 per cent: two long structured investigations that students abandon rather than attempt for method marks. Algebraic fluency under time pressure is the usual limiting factor.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout and heavier on modelling, statistics and technology use. Marks are lost in interpretation: a correct regression reported without a sentence saying what it means scores the calculation and not the conclusion. Higher Level carries a Paper 3 of its own with extended modelling tasks.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Paper 1 combines multiple choice with a data-based section worth 36 per cent; Paper 2 carries 44 per cent in extended response. Higher Level depth in organic mechanisms and energetics separates the top grades. The scientific investigation is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each.

Physics

HL and SL

The commonest east-coast stall is in fields and circuits, where students can quote a relationship but cannot apply it to an unfamiliar arrangement. Higher Level adds depth rather than breadth, and the data-based questions reward graph reading over recall. Uncertainty treatment is a repeated and avoidable loss in the investigation.

Biology

HL and SL

The most over-revised and under-scored subject in the Diploma. Students reread notes and score the same mark twice. Gains come from converting recall into the structure the extended-response questions want, and from practising the data-analysis items where the marks sit outside the textbook.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level adds Paper 3, worth 30 per cent, with quantitative questions and policy evaluation at the end. Diagram accuracy decides more marks than essay style: an unlabelled axis or a shifted curve drawn in the wrong direction costs the analysis marks before the evaluation is read.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application is where grades separate. Students name a framework and then describe the case rather than applying the framework to it. The internally assessed research project needs a real question and real data, and the commonest problem is a topic too broad to answer in the word limit.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, worth 35 per cent, two hours fifteen at Higher Level. Students who read widely still lose marks by summarising the text instead of analysing how it works. The Individual Oral is assessed on a global issue, which has to be argued rather than announced.

English B

HL and SL

Common across the emirate's mixed-language intakes. Productive skills are assessed under timed conditions, and the Higher Level reading texts are longer and denser. The individual oral rewards students who can sustain an unscripted exchange, which is a different skill from writing well.

Arabic A and Arabic B

Required study and Diploma courses

Arabic runs alongside the licensed international curriculum as required study, in first-language and additional-language streams taught separately. Where it is taken as a Diploma subject, assessment structure rather than vocabulary is usually the gap, particularly in the written tasks.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Diploma core

The core contributes points to the Diploma total and runs to school-set internal deadlines rather than an exam timetable. Both are self-managed, which is precisely why they slip. Support is process coaching, reading the criteria, and feedback on the student's own drafts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns cover almost every Diploma request from this coast. All three are one-to-one and delivered live online, priced by the hour, and set in Gulf Standard Time around the local school day.

Weekly one-to-one in a single Diploma subject

A standing slot in one subject at one level, following the school's teaching order rather than the textbook. The first session reads the last two marked scripts and the school's internal deadline list, then sets a component sequence from what those show.

  • One subject per slot, at the level the student is registered for
  • Annotated work and session notes the student keeps
  • Resequenced when the school changes its teaching order
  • Reviewed against the next school assessment, not a fixed week count

Component block before the May session

A short dense block aimed at named papers. Content teaching stops and the work becomes timed questions, mark scheme reading and command-term precision. Useful where a family wants a defined commitment with an end date rather than an open arrangement.

  • Built from the mock script rather than the reported grade
  • Priority to the paper with the largest recoverable mark total
  • Timed sections marked against the published scheme
  • Ends on a stated date with no rolling renewal

Core clinic for the exploration, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

Scheduled around the school's own internal deadlines. The work is criteria reading, research-question shaping and feedback on drafts the student has written. Nothing is written or edited to completion on the student's behalf, and that limit is stated before the first session.

  • Criteria read letter by letter with the mark allocations named
  • Research question narrowed until it can be answered in the word limit
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, returned annotated
  • School deadlines treated as the schedule, not the exam timetable

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Fujairah

01

What an east-coast parent is actually asking for

The search phrase is about location, but the problem underneath it is almost never location. Families on this coast rarely contact anybody because no adult within reach can help with schoolwork. They contact somebody because one Diploma subject has stopped moving, the school has one teacher in it, and there is no second specialist inside a reasonable radius. Proximity cannot solve that. Only a bigger pool can.

It helps to be precise about what is scarce. General academic help is not scarce in Fujairah; competent, patient adults who can supervise homework and keep a teenager working exist here as everywhere. What is scarce is component-level knowledge of a specific Diploma course at a specific level: someone who has marked Chemistry Paper 2 against the published scheme, who knows what the data section of Paper 1 rewards, who can look at a scientific investigation and say which of the four criteria is costing marks. That person may not exist within an hour's drive in any direction.

So the honest framing of the question is a trade. A tutor physically present brings the things presence brings: a fixed appointment somebody has travelled for, a direct relationship with the household, and a hand on the page. A tutor reached over video brings subject precision and continuity, because nothing about the arrangement depends on the mountain road being open or on a two-hour round trip remaining attractive in February. For a Diploma subject, and particularly a Higher Level one, precision usually wins. For a nine-year-old who needs reading practice, presence probably does. The next sections set that trade out with numbers attached.

02

Four things about the Diploma a general subject tutor has never had to handle

A strong school teacher from any system can teach Diploma content. What they have usually not had to handle is the Diploma's machinery: the internally assessed components with lettered criteria, the Higher Level extras, the core running on school-set dates, and the academic-honesty rules that govern what anyone outside the school may do with a student's work. Each one is a place where a well-meaning generalist costs marks.

The internally assessed work is the biggest of the four. Every Diploma subject has at least one piece marked against named criteria with published mark allocations, and the marks are not distributed the way students assume. In the scientific investigation, research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation each carry six marks, so a beautifully written conclusion sitting on a vague research question has already lost most of the top band. In the mathematical exploration, presentation and communication carry four marks each and personal engagement carries three, which is why a technically correct exploration with no stated aim scores poorly. A tutor who does not know those numbers cannot direct the student's effort.

The core is the second, and it fails quietly. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS run to internal deadlines the school sets, not to an examination timetable, and nobody chases a student in September about a date in March. By the time a parent notices, the window for choosing a workable Extended Essay question has closed and the student is committed to one that cannot be answered in the word limit. The third issue is the Higher Level extras, which appear in the table below. The fourth is the honesty line, which has a section of its own further down.

WHAT HIGHER LEVEL ADDS, AND WHERE A GENERALIST MISSES IT
Feature of the DiplomaWhat it means in practiceWhat a general tutor typically misses
A third paper in maths and the sciencesMaths Paper 3 carries 20 per cent at Higher Level and does not exist at Standard LevelTeaches content to Standard Level depth and never practises long structured investigations

Command terms with defined meaningsDescribe, explain, outline, deduce and discuss are marked differentlyTreats them as synonyms, so answers are right and still score below band
The core on school-set internal deadlinesExtended Essay and Theory of Knowledge dates are set by the school, not the boardWorks to the exam timetable and discovers an internal deadline after it passed
Academic-honesty rules on courseworkWork must be the student's own; a tutor teaches and gives feedbackHelps rewrite a draft to completion, which puts the candidate at risk
03

The three alternatives, and what each one costs a Fujairah family

Set against each other, the options differ less on price than on reach. The school's own support is the cheapest and the most convenient, and in many cases it is the right first move: a subject teacher giving a Diploma student an extra hour a week knows the cohort, the teaching order and the internal deadlines. Its limit is structural rather than a criticism. If the subject has one teacher and that teacher is the reason the student has stalled, more of the same input will not move it, and in a single-figure cohort there is no colleague to swap to.

A local generalist is the next step most families take, often on a neighbour's recommendation. It works well below sixth form and runs into trouble at Higher Level, for the reasons in the table above. An agency west of the mountains is the third, and the arithmetic is the problem: a round trip from the Dubai school belt to Fujairah City runs two to three hours around a sixty-minute lesson, so either the lesson is long enough to justify the drive or the drive is priced into the hour. Published market rates for visiting tuition in the UAE run AED 180-500 per hour, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online.

The fourth option exists because the first three run out of specialists, not because it is cheaper. It is worth being clear about what it costs and what it does not include. The figures in the table are market rates published by named providers in October 2026, not a price list; a specific subject, level and session length is a short consultation, followed by one trial session per family at no charge. What the table does show is that the premium end of this market reflects scarcity at least as much as skill, which is why the dearest option is not automatically the right one for a Fujairah household.

04

The mountain road, priced into an hourly rate

The Hajar mountains are the single most under-discussed fact in tutoring on this coast, and they are worth stating as arithmetic rather than scenery. A tutor based in the Dubai school belt who agrees to teach a Fujairah student in person is agreeing to spend two to three hours travelling around one hour of teaching. Nobody sustains that at the online rate. It either appears in the fee, which pushes the hour towards the upper end of the visiting band, or it appears in reliability, as the arrangement quietly becomes fortnightly and then occasional.

The weather makes it worse at exactly the wrong time of year. The mountain road closes after heavy rain, which in a visiting arrangement means a missed week rather than a late start. In February, with mocks marked and a May session approaching, a missed week is not recoverable by doubling up later. This is the practical reason continuity matters more than presence for a Diploma student on the east coast, and it is a reason specific to this emirate rather than a general argument about online teaching.

There is a second-order effect families notice only after a term. When the lesson is a round trip, rescheduling becomes expensive for the tutor, so slots stop moving. School events, mock weeks, CAS commitments and the shortened Ramadan day all push against a fixed slot, and a slot that cannot move is a slot that gets cancelled. A video session can shift inside the same week at no cost to anybody, which over a two-year Diploma is worth more lessons than any difference in hourly rate.

05

Where Diploma marks actually go missing, component by component

Parents are usually shown grades and predicted grades, which are summaries. The useful object is the marked script, because marks go missing in patterns and the patterns are diagnosable. Method marks lost on questions with the right final answer point at working and presentation. Marks lost in the last third of a paper point at pacing. Marks lost where an answer is factually correct but scores below band almost always point at command terms.

That last one is the most common and the most fixable. The Diploma defines its command terms, and they are marked differently: outline wants a brief account, explain wants reasons, deduce wants a conclusion reached from given information, discuss wants a balanced review. A student who answers every one of those as describe is not short of knowledge. They are answering a different question from the one on the paper, and a tutor can correct it in a handful of sessions once somebody has identified it.

The table below sets out the components where east-coast students most often lose ground, with the weightings they carry. Two things are worth noting about it. First, the heaviest components are not the ones students spend the most time on; the data-based sections and the internally assessed work are routinely under-practised relative to their weight. Second, no IB session or results date is published on this page. The IB's own assessment pages could not be verified for this project, so dates must be confirmed with your child's Diploma coordinator rather than taken from any third-party restatement.

06

The core, and the line a tutor does not cross

Three parts of the Diploma are self-managed, and all three fail the same way. The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the internally assessed component in each subject run to dates the school sets rather than to the examination timetable, and nobody rings a bell. A Fujairah student with a supervisor who teaches a different subject, in a school where one person coordinates the whole programme, is more exposed to this than a student in a large Dubai cohort with a dedicated core team.

The most useful intervention is also the earliest and the cheapest: narrow the research question until it can be answered in the word limit, and read the criteria before writing anything. Most weak Extended Essays are not badly written. They are answering a question nobody could answer in four thousand words, chosen in a week when the student was busy, and the problem was baked in before the first draft. The same is true of the mathematical exploration and the scientific investigation: the research question decides the ceiling.

Where the line sits should be stated before anybody pays for anything. A tutor may teach the skills the task assesses, explain what each criterion rewards, discuss the student's own ideas with them, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write it, rewrite it to completion, or supply a version to adapt. One site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright; a candidate who submits one is exposed to an academic-honesty finding, and the exposure falls on the student. Board syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked at source rather than redistributed, because they belong to the IB and to Cambridge, not to a tutoring platform.

07

Who supervises a Fujairah school, and what follows for sixth form

Private schools in Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which plays a pivotal role in overseeing private schools in those three emirates. That is different from Dubai, where the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education, and from Abu Dhabi, where the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Minutes down the coast at Kalba and Khor Fakkan, the Sharjah Private Education Authority applies instead, and Sharjah's authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

What that means for a parent is practical. There is no emirate-level inspection portal for Fujairah of the kind a Dubai parent is used to, so school-level information comes from the school and from ministry circulars. The federal baseline also applies: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the ministry's general regulations. That is the rule behind the required subjects running alongside whatever international programme a school is licensed for.

Looking further ahead, the Ministry of Education's equivalency requirements decide what a leaving certificate is worth for UAE university entry. On the British track, students must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from those five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the Diploma, no points threshold is published here, because the figure could not be verified from the ministry's own source. Equivalency is a ministry process, not something a tutoring platform performs; check the current requirements through the official channel before relying on any restatement.

08

The east-coast week, and what happens when no specialist is free

Scheduling is where arrangements on this coast actually break. A Fujairah school day ends in the early afternoon, clubs and sports run on into the late afternoon, prayer timings shape the evening, and families working shifts at the port need a slot that can move between weeks rather than a fixed hour for two years. Add the shortened Ramadan school day, when the whole rhythm changes for several weeks, and a rigid weekly slot looks less like discipline and more like a plan that will lose lessons.

What works in practice is a standing slot that can be moved inside the same week, a shorter session more often rather than one long evening for younger students, and an explicit decision about mock weeks and exam weeks: either pause or switch the content to timed papers, but decide rather than drift. During Ramadan, sessions after Iftar tend to hold better than late-afternoon ones, and it is worth agreeing that change before the month starts rather than during it.

The last thing to say is the one most providers in this market leave out. Some Diploma subjects at Higher Level have no UAE-based specialist free at the hour a Fujairah family needs. It happens most in the smaller Group 3 and Group 6 options, in Higher Level physics and in Further Mathematics where a school offers it. When it happens, the straight answer is to say so and name the alternative: a specialist in another time zone teaching into a Gulf Standard Time slot, a fortnightly longer session, or a wait for a slot to open. No tutor can promise a grade, and a conversation that starts with one has told you how the rest will go. Coverage limits disclosed in advance are the reason this page is longer than the ones it is competing with.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Fujairah

Fujairah's districts differ on how long the school run takes and when a weekday session can realistically start. They do not differ on which Diploma subjects are taught locally, which is why the reach of the arrangement matters more here than its distance.

Fujairah City and Merashid

Where most of the emirate's private school places sit. Families here have the shortest school run and the widest local choice, and are the most likely to try the school's own after-school support before looking outside it.

Al Faseel

Coastal and close to the city schools, with corniche sports and club commitments running late into the afternoon. The binding constraint on a weekday slot is the end of those activities rather than the drive home.

Sakamkam

Inland of the city with a mixed-curriculum intake. A practical early session here is usually after five, and a diagnostic first session works better than a content lesson because the local school report rarely identifies the component at fault.

Madhab and Al Gurfa

Residential districts with a steady turnover of posted families, so mid-year arrivals are common. A student joining a Diploma cohort in DP1 mid-term has a different and more urgent job than one who started with it.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

An hour up the coast from the city, with very little school choice in range. Any arrangement depending on someone driving here twice a week has a continuity problem before term begins, which is the main reason video sessions dominate this stretch.

Qidfa, Mirbah and Al Aqah

Spread along the northern coast road with long gaps between settlements. Households here are the clearest case for subject matching over proximity: there is no local Diploma specialist to choose from in any subject.

Masafi and the mountain road

Split between Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, on the route west. The road closes after heavy rain, which turns a visiting arrangement into a missed week rather than a late lesson.

Kalba and Khor Fakkan

Sharjah exclaves minutes down the same coast, under the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than the Ministry of Education. Term dates and fee rules differ even though the drive does not.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level, not the year group

Start with the Diploma subjects your child takes and whether each is Higher or Standard Level. On the east coast this matters more than anywhere else, because the Higher Level extras are exactly the components a local generalist has never taught and the ones where marks are usually going.

  2. 02

Send the last two marked scripts and the internal deadlines

A recent marked paper shows whether marks are lost on method, pacing or command terms. The school's internal deadline list for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the subject's assessed work shows what is genuinely urgent, which is rarely the thing that feels urgent.

Agree a slot that can move inside the week

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the Fujairah school day, clubs and prayer timings. Build in the ability to shift a lesson rather than cancel it, because over two years that single arrangement decides how many lessons actually happen.

  4. 04

One trial session, then a plan that names components

One trial session per family at no charge follows the consultation. Ask for the plan in writing afterwards: it should name papers, components and a sequence. A plan written in terms of confidence and motivation cannot be measured against the next marked script.

  5. 05

Review at the next school assessment

Set the review point at the school's next assessment rather than after a number of weeks, and judge it on whether marks moved in the components the plan targeted. If they did not, the aim was wrong and should change. That is a normal event in a two-year programme.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by subject and level, not by distance

The pool is everyone who teaches your child's Diploma subject at your child's level, rather than everyone willing to drive the mountain road. In an emirate where a Higher Level cohort can be eight students, that is the difference between a specialist and a second generalist.

Component-level teaching from the first session

Work starts from the marked script and the published weightings: which paper, which section, which criterion. Sessions aimed at a named component are the reason one-to-one teaching can be worth several times a group revision class per hour.

Continuity the mountain road cannot interrupt

Nothing about the arrangement depends on the Hajar road being open or on a two-hour round trip staying attractive in February. Slots move inside the same week at no cost, which over a two-year Diploma is worth more lessons than any difference in hourly rate.

Published rates belong to the market, with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it and dated October 2026. Three of the main competing sites in this market publish no hourly figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars rather than dirhams.

The honesty line is written down before you ask

Coursework support is teaching, criteria reading and feedback on the student's own draft. Board papers and mark schemes are linked at source rather than handed over. Those limits are published so a family never has to discover them during an assessment week.

Independent, and specific about what that means

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, the Ministry of Education or any emirate authority, and no school named on this page is a client. Delivery is online; visiting tuition is offered only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

What does an IB tutor need to know that a strong maths teacher does not?+

The machinery around the content. A capable maths teacher from any system can teach Diploma mathematics, but they may never have taught Paper 3, which exists only at Higher Level and carries 20 per cent of the grade as two long structured investigations. They may not know that the mathematical exploration is marked on presentation, communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics with published mark allocations, so a technically sound piece with no stated aim loses the top band. Command terms are the third gap: deduce, outline and explain are marked differently, and a student answering them all the same way is losing marks they already earned.

My son's school has one teacher per Diploma subject. Is outside teaching the right fix?+

Often, but check the cheaper option first. If the problem is a missed sequence of lessons or confusion about the teaching order, the subject teacher is the fastest and least expensive route and knows the cohort and the internal deadlines. Outside teaching earns its cost when the bottleneck is the input itself: a single-figure cohort with one teacher has no colleague to swap to, and more of the same explanation will not move a student who has already not understood it twice. The test is diagnostic rather than emotional. Ask what the last two marked scripts show, and whether the gap is content, technique or pacing.

Is the school's own after-school support enough to get through DP2?+

For many students, yes. School support has advantages nobody outside can match: it is close to the teaching order, cheap or included, and the person giving it knows the internal deadlines. It runs out in three situations. The subject has one teacher and that teacher is the reason the student has stalled. The need is Higher Level depth the school does not routinely teach, such as a third paper or an option topic. Or the core has slipped and the student needs sustained process coaching the school cannot give to one individual. Outside the first case, more school support is usually the right next step.

How do I tell whether the problem is content or examination technique?+

Read the marked script rather than the grade, and look for the pattern. Marks lost where the final answer is correct point at working and presentation, not understanding. Marks lost steadily through the last third of a paper point at pacing. Marks lost on answers that are factually right but score below band almost always point at command terms. Content gaps look different: whole questions untouched, or working that goes wrong at the same step every time. The distinction matters financially, because a technique problem can often be fixed in a short block while a content gap needs sustained weekly teaching.

Can a tutor based in Dubai realistically teach my daughter in Fujairah every week?+

In person, rarely for long. The round trip from the Dubai school belt to Fujairah City runs two to three hours around a sixty-minute lesson, so either the lesson gets long enough to justify the drive or the drive gets priced into the fee, which pushes the hour towards the upper end of the AED 180-500 visiting band. The arrangement then becomes fragile: the mountain road closes after heavy rain, slots stop moving because rescheduling costs the tutor a round trip, and by February the weekly lesson has become occasional. Over video the same specialist teaches the same hour with none of that attached.

What does an hour of Diploma tuition cost a family on this coast?+

Published market rates in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutors at AED 150-300 per hour, visiting one-to-one tuition at AED 180-500 with travel inside the fee, IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above, and premium or examiner-experienced tutors at AED 500-650 and above. Monthly packages seen in this market ran around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visiting sessions. Those are other providers' published figures, not a price list. For a specific subject, level and session length the honest answer is a short consultation, then one trial session per family at no charge.

How many Higher Level subjects can one student sensibly have support in at once?+

One, in most cases, and two at the outside. The constraint is not money but the student's week. A Diploma year already contains six subjects, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, and adding three weekly sessions to that usually means homework gets done worse rather than better. The productive pattern on this coast is to start with the subject where the marked scripts show the largest recoverable mark total, hold it for a term, and add a second only if the first has moved. A short pre-session block in a third subject is a different thing and can sit alongside.

How many points does the Diploma core contribute to the final score?+

They contribute points on top of the six subject grades, and they are awarded together rather than separately, which is why a weak Extended Essay cannot be fully offset by a strong Theory of Knowledge essay. The more important point for a Fujairah family is that both run to deadlines the school sets rather than to the examination timetable. Confirm the exact point allocation and the current core requirements with your child's Diploma coordinator, because the IB's own published documentation is the authority on it and this page does not restate figures it could not verify from the source.

Does a tutor really need to see my child's school deadline list?+

Yes, and it is the single most useful document a parent can send. The Diploma core and every internally assessed component run on dates the school chooses, and those dates differ between schools sitting the same session. Without the list, a tutor works to the examination timetable and discovers an internal deadline after it has passed, which is the commonest way a term of sessions gets aimed at the wrong thing. With it, the plan can put the exploration or the Extended Essay draft ahead of content revision in the weeks where that is genuinely the priority.

Which Diploma subjects are hardest to staff from inside the UAE?+

The smaller Group 3 and Group 6 options, Higher Level physics, and Further Mathematics where a school offers it. The pattern is simple: a subject taken by few students nationally is taught by few teachers, and those teachers are already fully committed during the hours a Gulf Standard Time family wants. When that happens the options are a specialist in another time zone teaching into a Gulf Standard Time slot, a fortnightly longer session, or a wait for a slot to open. None of those is hidden behind an enquiry form, and no provider in this market publishes its coverage limits, which is why they are stated here.

We may move west of the mountains next year. Does that change the plan?+

It changes the school and the regulator, and it need not change the teaching at all. A move from Fujairah into Dubai moves your child from federal Ministry of Education supervision to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, with a different inspection cycle and term calendar; a move to Sharjah or Kalba puts them under the Sharjah Private Education Authority instead. What usually causes trouble in a mid-course move is coursework in progress, because internal deadlines and supervisor arrangements differ between schools. Settle the Extended Essay question and any assessed component before the transfer rather than after it.

Which authority supervises my child's school in Fujairah?+

The federal Ministry of Education, which plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. Dubai schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge. The practical consequence for a Fujairah parent is that there is no emirate-level inspection portal of the kind Dubai families use, so school-level information comes from the school itself and from ministry circulars rather than from a public dashboard.

Is a Diploma student allowed to use a tutor for the exploration at all?+

Yes, within clear limits, and the limits are the point. A tutor may teach the skills the task assesses, read the criteria with the student and explain what each one rewards, discuss the student's own ideas, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write it, rewrite it to completion, or supply a model to adapt. The work must be the student's own, and the consequence of crossing that line falls on the candidate rather than on the tutor. Any provider offering to supply a finished internal assessment is offering an academic-honesty exposure rather than a grade.

How late in DP2 is it still worth starting with an IB tutor?+

Later than most families assume, provided the aim narrows as the time shortens. With two terms left, content teaching is still viable in a subject with identifiable gaps. With one term left, the productive work is technique: timed papers, mark scheme reading and command-term precision, aimed at the one or two components carrying the largest recoverable marks. With six weeks left, the honest answer is triage on a single paper rather than a broad programme. What does not work at any stage is starting from chapter one, which is why the first session reads the marked scripts instead of the textbook.

What should the first session with a Diploma specialist actually produce?+

A written plan that names components. Not a reassurance, not a general impression, but a short document saying which papers and criteria the marks are sitting in, which two or three topics come first and in what order, and when the plan will be reviewed against the next school assessment. Ask for it after the trial session and read it for nouns. A plan describing attitude and engagement cannot be measured against anything, and an unmeasurable plan is how two years of weekly sessions pass on the east coast without the component scores moving.

Send the subject, the level and the deadline list

The useful first message is short: which Diploma subjects your child takes, which are at Higher Level, the school's internal deadlines for the core and the assessed components, and a weekday window that survives clubs and prayer timings. Attach the last two marked scripts and the consultation can start on a diagnosis instead of an introduction. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live online in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Fujairah address, holds no regulator or examination-board approval, and names no school as a partner. What it does is reach past the mountain road to someone who teaches your child's subject at your child's level.
