IGCSE Science Tutor in LA Mer

An IGCSE science tutor in LA Mer is usually being asked to cover biology, chemistry and physics inside a week that has room for about two sessions. Schools serving the Jumeirah 1 shoreline finish by roughly 3:30pm, activity programmes run to 6pm, and Year 11 already carries eight or nine subjects. This page works out what actually fits, which science to put first, and how the paper codes change the answer. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in LA Mer

Three sciences, one Jumeirah week, and two usable slots

The honest starting point for science tutoring in LA Mer is an arithmetic problem rather than a teaching one. A Year 11 student in this cluster finishes school between about 2:45pm and 3:30pm, reaches home between 3:15pm and 4:15pm after the Jumeirah Beach Road or Al Wasl Road exit, and then has an activity programme that in most of these schools runs until about 6pm. The evening that remains has to hold food, eight or nine subjects' worth of homework, and whatever revision the school has set. Two tutored hours a week is a realistic ceiling for most families. Three sciences do not divide neatly into two hours.

Most families discover this by trying the other thing first. Three weekly science hours are booked in September, the student keeps them for about six weeks, and then one quietly stops happening because there was never room for it. The hour that falls away is rarely the one that mattered least; it is the one scheduled latest in the evening, which is usually physics. Deciding which two hours exist is therefore better done deliberately in September than accidentally in November. That means the first decision is triage, not timetabling. Which science is actually costing marks, and in which paper? Parents frequently arrive asking for science tutoring in general, when the marked mock shows a clear pattern: strong biology, adequate chemistry, and physics losing marks specifically on the calculation questions. Tutoring all three equally in that situation spends two thirds of the budget maintaining subjects that were already fine.

The second decision is which specification the school uses, because it changes what a session should contain. Cambridge separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, carry a practical component worth 20 per cent: either Paper 5, a practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences, 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, have no separate practical paper and assess practical skills inside the written papers instead. A tutor who assumes the wrong one of those will prepare a student for a paper they are not sitting.

The third is whether the student is doing three separate sciences at all. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award, producing two grades from one set of papers that covers all three disciplines, and Combined Science 0653 is a single award. A student on 0654 does not need three subject specialists; they need one person who can move across all three at the level the paper actually demands, which is shallower than the separate sciences but broader.

IB Gram teaches LA Mer families one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, since home visits are offered only in India. For a two-slot week that matters practically: a session can be switched from physics to chemistry between one week and the next without anyone rearranging a drive, which is what makes triage a live tool rather than a decision made once in September.

At a glance

  • Two tutored hours a week is the realistic ceiling in this cluster
  • Cambridge separate sciences carry a 20 per cent practical paper; Edexcel does not
  • Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award covering all three disciplines
  • Triage from a marked mock beats splitting hours evenly across three sciences
  • Activity programmes here occupy roughly 4pm to 6pm
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

LA Mer sits in a cluster where most students meet science at IGCSE in Years 10 and 11 before choosing between A Level and the IB Diploma. These are the programmes behind the teaching on this page.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Sciences

Taken either as three separate sciences or as a co-ordinated double award. Cambridge separate sciences tier into Core and Extended, with Core graded C to G and Extended A* to E, and include a practical component at 20 per cent. Pearson Edexcel runs Foundation and Higher tier with practical skills inside the written papers.

For MoE equivalency on the British track a student must pass five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education not counted among the five. A double award in Co-ordinated Sciences contributes two of those five, which is one reason 0654 is a popular choice in Dubai schools where the timetable is tight.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

Assessed against four criteria rather than papers, with investigation design weighted heavily. A student transferring from MYP 5 into an IGCSE science cohort arrives strong on experimental design and short on timed recall of specific content, which is a different starting point from the rest of the class.

Transfers of this kind happen regularly between schools in the Jumeirah and Al Barsha clusters. The practical consequence is a term of catch-up on definitions, equations and paper convention rather than on scientific thinking, and it is cheapest to do in the summer before the move rather than in Year 11.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Sciences

Where many of these students go next. Diploma sciences front-load quantitative work and require a scientific investigation worth 20 per cent of the grade. A student who reached Extended tier comfortably has the foundation for Higher Level; one who scraped through Core generally does not.

Families along the Jumeirah strip usually decide between A Level and the Diploma during Year 11. Science grades carry that decision, since several Dubai schools set an Extended grade threshold for entry to Higher Level sciences. Spending on science in Year 10 is partly spending to keep that choice available.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science blocks that generate the most tutoring hours among LA Mer families, with the paper each tends to be examined in and what it actually demands.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended

Series and parallel behaviour, resistance calculations and circuit reasoning. The most requested single topic in this cluster. Students who can recite the rules often cannot apply them to an unfamiliar circuit diagram, which is a practice problem rather than a knowledge one.

Physics: forces, motion and energy calculations

Core and Extended

Rearranging before substituting is the real skill, and it is a mathematics habit rather than a physics one. Marks are lost through unit errors and through writing a final answer with no working the examiner can award method marks for.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended mainly

The dividing line between a grade 6 and a grade 8 in Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1. Multi-step problems involving limiting reagent and percentage yield reward sequencing practice, and they appear every series without fail.

Chemistry: organic chemistry and reaction types

Core and Extended

Homologous series, naming and the reactions linking functional groups. Recall volume rather than conceptual difficulty, which means frequent short testing produces more than long explanation ever will.

Chemistry: acids, bases, salts and preparation methods

Core and Extended

Students lose marks on the practical detail: which method prepares which salt, how a product is separated, what observation confirms a reaction. These are exactly the details the practical and alternative-to-practical papers probe.

Biology: transport, respiration and photosynthesis

Core and Extended

High-mark-density content that rewards precise language. Explanation questions ask for a mechanism in order, and students who know the biology lose marks by giving the right ideas in the wrong sequence.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

Core and Extended

Punnett squares, ratios and the vocabulary around alleles and phenotypes. Procedural once the convention is learned, and a reliable source of recoverable marks within two or three sessions.

Biology: human physiology and homeostasis

Extended mainly

Negative feedback, hormonal control and the detail of specific organ systems. The common failure is describing what happens without naming the controlling mechanism, which is where the marks sit.

Practical skills and experimental design

Cambridge Paper 5 or Paper 6, inside written papers for Edexcel

Reading a measuring instrument, identifying variables, spotting a flaw in a method and suggesting an improvement. Worth 20 per cent on Cambridge separate sciences and routinely the least-practised component in a tight Year 11 timetable.

Graph and data handling across all three sciences

Core and Extended

Plotting accurately, drawing a line of best fit, reading an intercept and describing a trend in the words the mark scheme expects. One skill that pays in biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously, which makes it the best single use of a shared session.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover almost every science booking from this part of Dubai. All teaching is one-to-one over live video.

Two slots, triaged from the mock

Two weekly hours allocated to whichever sciences the marked mock shows are actually losing marks, and reallocated when the picture changes. This is the arrangement that fits a Jumeirah Year 11 week, and it works because the slots are not permanently assigned to a subject.

  • Starts from a marked paper, not from a subject preference
  • Slots reallocated as the mark pattern changes
  • Written note after each session naming the topics
  • Same Gulf Standard Time slot each week

One shared data and practical-skills hour

A single weekly hour on the skills that pay across all three sciences: graph plotting, lines of best fit, identifying variables, reading instruments and evaluating a method. Efficient for students whose content knowledge is sound and whose marks are lost in the practical and data questions.

  • Covers Cambridge Paper 5 and Paper 6 demands
  • Applies to biology, chemistry and physics at once
  • Past-paper questions marked against the scheme
  • Suits students scoring well on recall questions

Single-science intensive block

Two sessions a week for six to eight weeks on one science only, aimed at a diagnosed topic list. The right purchase when a mock shows one subject failing badly and the other two holding, and the wrong one as a substitute for a year of teaching.

  • Diagnosed list with approximate mark values attached
  • Six to eight weeks, two hours a week
  • Timed paper practice under exam conditions
  • Reverts to the two-slot pattern afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in LA Mer

01

What fits into a LA Mer Year 11 week, and what has to be dropped

Start with the hours that exist rather than the hours you would like. The table below maps a typical Year 11 afternoon in this cluster from the school bell to the point where productive science work stops, which is the calculation every science tutoring plan here has to survive.

What falls out of that map is that two tutored hours a week is the ceiling for most students, and that both have to sit in the 6:30pm to 8:30pm window unless the activity programme leaves an early slot free. A family trying to fit three weekly science hours into this week is either removing independent study time or scheduling a session at an hour when nobody learns anything. Both are worse than choosing.

So the choice has to be made deliberately, and it should be made from a marked paper. A mock script shows which science is losing marks and, more usefully, which kind of question is losing them. Lost marks concentrated in calculation questions across physics and chemistry point to one shared session on quantitative technique rather than two separate subject sessions. Lost marks concentrated in six-mark explanation questions across biology and chemistry point to a session on writing to the mark allocation.

That is the useful reframing for a tight week. The unit of tutoring is not the subject; it is the failure mode. Two hours spent on the two failure modes a student actually has will cover all three sciences, while two hours spent on two of the three subjects will leave the third untouched and the failure modes unaddressed.

Which science specification is your child actually sitting?

This is the question that most changes what a session should contain, and it takes one email to the school to answer. The code appears on the exam entry statement. Getting it wrong means preparing a student for a paper that does not exist on their timetable, and it happens often enough to be worth checking before hiring anybody.

Cambridge separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, tier into Core and Extended. Core candidates sit a multiple-choice Paper 1 and a theory Paper 3; Extended candidates sit a multiple-choice Paper 2 and a theory Paper 4. Both tiers then add a practical component worth 20 per cent, taken either as Paper 5, a practical test carried out with apparatus, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, which asks the same skills in written form. Which of those two a school enters for varies by school and sometimes by cohort.

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award. One set of papers covers biology, chemistry and physics and produces two grades, with a theory paper that is longer than the separate-science equivalent and the same practical component at 20 per cent. Combined Science 0653 is the single-award version. Students on either are examined across all three disciplines at less depth than the separate sciences, so a tutor needs breadth rather than specialism.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences work differently again. Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1 each have two written papers at Foundation or Higher tier, with practical skills assessed inside those papers rather than in a separate practical component. For a family comparing tutors, that single structural difference is worth more than any claim about experience: a tutor who has only taught Cambridge will have spent years preparing students for a practical paper your child may not sit.

The practical component is the cheapest 20 per cent to recover

  • Worth 20 per cent on Cambridge separate and Co-ordinated Sciences
  • Tests a small, learnable set of skills rather than content
  • No apparatus needed to prepare for either Paper 5 or Paper 6
  • The same skills apply across all three sciences at once

On Cambridge separate sciences and Co-ordinated Sciences, the practical component carries 20 per cent of the grade, and in a crowded Year 11 timetable it is the component schools have least time to rehearse. That combination makes it the best value target in a two-slot week, because the marks are concentrated and the skills are small in number.

What the practical and alternative-to-practical papers actually test is narrow and learnable. Reading a scale correctly and to the right precision. Identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables in an unfamiliar method. Spotting the flaw in a described procedure. Suggesting a specific improvement rather than saying be more careful. Plotting a graph with sensible axes, drawing a line of best fit through scattered points, and reading a value off it. Describing a trend in the language the mark scheme rewards.

None of those requires apparatus to learn. The alternative to practical paper is written in any case, and the practical test rewards a student who knows what the examiner is looking for far more than one who has handled the equipment a few extra times. A session spent marking past practical questions against the published scheme will typically move a student further than a session spent revising content they already partly know.

There is a second reason this component rewards attention. It is the same skill set in all three sciences, so an hour spent on it serves biology, chemistry and physics at once. For a LA Mer family with two slots and three subjects, that is the only part of the syllabus where a single hour genuinely counts three times.

04

The science year counted backwards from the June series

Planning the two slots is easier against a calendar, and this is ground no competitor page in this search covers. UAE candidates sit Cambridge in the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any February or March dates quoted to a Dubai family should be disregarded. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November.

Checkable reference points are worth having. For Pearson, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are backward-looking citations and they give the shape of a year reliably, but the live official timetable is what should be checked before acting, because provisional timetables get revised.

One Cambridge administrative point matters for any family in the Gulf. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, the timetable differs by zone, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask the school which zone it sits in rather than working from the first timetable a search returns.

Counted backwards, the two slots have a natural sequence. Through the autumn term they carry whatever the school is teaching. The mock window produces the only honest diagnostic of the year. The weeks after the mocks are the highest-value hours available, spent on a diagnosed list rather than on revision in general. Practical paper work fits best in the term before the series, when content is largely covered. The last fortnight belongs to the student's own timed practice.

Online delivery against a visiting tutor, for a family with two slots

Home tutoring is the usual search term and it deserves a direct answer rather than a deflection. In-home one-to-one science tuition in Dubai is widely available and is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350. Online qualified subject tutors are published at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE rates from AED 150 and TutorChase AED 270 for specialist work. Those are market figures belonging to the providers named, read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

For a three-science family the specific problem with the visiting model is flexibility. If the mock shows physics calculation failures in January and chemistry stoichiometry failures in March, the sensible move is to switch what a slot is used for. With a visiting tutor that means either finding a second person who can reach LA Mer at the same hour or asking a biologist to teach stoichiometry. With online delivery it means changing who joins the call.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. LA Mer families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared past papers and recorded sessions. The relevant gain for this page is that a slot can carry a different science from one week to the next without a logistics negotiation.

The second gain is subject match. Requiring a person to reach the Jumeirah coast by 6:45pm on a given weekday narrows the field to those who live nearby and are free then, and narrows it again if you need someone who has taught Pearson 4PH1 rather than Cambridge 0625. Removing the distance condition is what lets the match be made on the specification instead.

Honest limits: what a science tutor should and should not be doing

IGCSE sciences are examined by terminal papers, so the coursework question that dominates Diploma subjects does not arise in the same form. The integrity question still does, in two specific places that matter for families hiring in this market.

The first concerns materials. Nobody should be offering you downloaded syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as a package. Those materials belong to Cambridge International and to Pearson, and the proper route is the official site or the school's own licensed access. A tutor who turns up with a folder of copied mark schemes has told you something about their standards before teaching anything.

The second concerns school assessments. A tutor should not be sitting alongside a student during a timed school assessment, should not be supplying answers to a paper the school is still using with its cohort, and should not be completing any work that will be submitted as the student's own. For students who go on to the IB Diploma the same principle hardens into a formal rule: the scientific investigation is 20 per cent of the grade and must be the student's own work, with a tutor limited to teaching the criteria and giving feedback on drafts. At least one operator in this search sells completed Internal Assessments, which is a malpractice risk carried entirely by the student.

The third limit is on promises. No tutor can honestly guarantee a grade or a specific improvement, and nobody offering one should be taken seriously. What can be offered is a diagnosis from marked work, teaching aimed at named papers, a written record of what each session covered, and a clear recommendation when the right answer is to buy fewer hours rather than more.

Checking that a Dubai science tutor is permitted to teach

  • The permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services, two working days to complete
  • No published fine amounts, so treat any quoted figure with caution

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the checks a parent needs are short. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Because there is no fee, there is no cost reason for a working tutor to lack one.

Eligibility is broad, which surprises many families. It covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service listing is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fees stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule has been published, any specific amount quoted to you should be treated with caution.

Two adjacent facts are worth knowing in Dubai specifically. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, a restriction the MoHRE permit's code of conduct echoes.

Reduced to what a parent actually asks: does this person hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and is my child enrolled at the school where they teach? Both answers should arrive without hesitation.

Where we tutor

LA Mer and the surrounding communities we teach

The timetable arithmetic in this page holds along the whole Jumeirah coast strip, where finish times and activity programmes are close to identical. These are the neighbouring communities on the same schedule.

LA Mer

Beachfront apartments and townhouses off Jumeirah Beach Road. The single beach-road exit at the end of the school day pushes the first realistic science slot to about 4:45pm.

Jumeirah 1

Villa streets directly inland with short drives home. Families here can sometimes hold a late-afternoon slot as well as an evening one, which is what makes two sciences a week workable.

Pearl Jumeira

One causeway in and out, so the afternoon exit is a single queue. Science sessions here generally settle after 6:30pm once the activity run has finished.

City Walk

Dense low-rise apartments inland across Al Wasl Road. Basement parking and lift waits add minutes at each end of any journey, so the evening slot is the dependable one.

Al Wasl

The corridor carrying this cluster's school traffic twice a day. The hour lost crossing it is the hour a second science session has to be found inside.

Jumeirah 2

Established villa plots with many British-curriculum families. Demand here concentrates on physics and chemistry in the weeks after the Year 11 mock window.

Jumeirah 3

Towards Umm Suqeim, with longer internal drives and later arrivals home. Online delivery is what keeps an early-evening start available from this stretch.

Umm Suqeim

Several large schools with staggered finishes and heavy afternoon congestion. Planning a science week here starts from the activity calendar rather than the school bell.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the specification codes

Tell us whether the school enters for Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, for Co-ordinated Sciences 0654, or for Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, and whether Paper 5 or Paper 6 applies. That one answer determines what every session should contain, and it is on the exam entry statement.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper, not a wish list

A recent mock or class test script shows which science is losing marks and which kind of question is losing them. That is what turns two weekly hours into a plan. Without it, the hours get split evenly across three subjects and address nothing in particular.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full session at no charge, taught rather than pitched, with the student. The tutor works from the marked script and starts teaching. One trial lesson per student, before any booking is made; if the match is wrong, say so and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

Assign the slots to failure modes

The two weekly hours are allocated to the two things actually going wrong, which is often quantitative technique and writing to the mark allocation rather than two of the three sciences. Slots are reallocated when the mark pattern changes.

  5. 05

Add the practical paper block, then taper

In the term before the series, one slot moves to practical and alternative-to-practical paper work, which is the same skill set in all three sciences. In the final weeks the sessions reduce deliberately so the student practises alone under timed conditions.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The week is sized before anything is sold

Two tutored hours is the realistic ceiling for a Year 11 student in this cluster, and saying so is more useful than selling three. Everything on this page is built around what actually fits between a 3:30pm finish and the point where calculation work stops holding.

Specification first, subject second

Cambridge separate sciences carry a practical paper worth 20 per cent; Pearson Edexcel assesses those skills inside the written papers. A tutor matched without that information may spend months preparing a student for a component they will never sit.

Slots follow the failure mode

Lost marks concentrated in calculation questions across two sciences call for one quantitative session, not two subject sessions. Treating the failure mode as the unit of tutoring is how two hours end up covering all three sciences.

A slot can change subject without a logistics problem

Because teaching is one-to-one over live video, moving a slot from physics to chemistry after the mocks means a different tutor joins the call. With a visiting tutor it means finding a second person who can reach the Jumeirah coast at the same hour.

Rates quoted with their sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider who published it and dated to when it was read. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars, which is not the currency these families transact in.

No guarantees and no copied mark schemes

No grade or improvement is promised, because none can honestly be. Syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge and Pearson and are referenced rather than supplied, which is a standard worth checking before hiring anyone.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in LA Mer: your questions answered

Can a LA Mer family realistically fit three sciences into one tutoring week?+

Not as three separate hours, for most students. School in this cluster ends between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, activity programmes run to about 6pm, and Year 11 carries eight or nine subjects of homework. Two tutored hours a week is the ceiling before independent study time starts disappearing. The way three sciences fit into two hours is by treating the failure mode as the unit rather than the subject: one hour on quantitative technique covers physics and chemistry at once.

Which science should we prioritise if we can only book two hours?+

Decide from a marked mock script rather than from the subject that feels hardest. The script shows both which science is losing marks and which kind of question is losing them. Lost marks clustered in calculation questions across physics and chemistry point to one shared session on quantitative technique. Lost marks clustered in six-mark explanation questions point to a session on writing to the mark allocation. Either way the two hours then address something specific instead of being split evenly across three subjects.

What is the difference between Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 and three separate sciences?+

0654 is a double award: one set of papers covering biology, chemistry and physics produces two grades, with a longer combined theory paper and the same practical component at 20 per cent. The three separate sciences, 0610, 0620 and 0625, each produce their own grade and go deeper in each discipline. A student on 0654 does not need three subject specialists; they need one tutor comfortable moving across all three at the depth the combined paper actually demands.

Does Pearson Edexcel IGCSE science have a practical exam like Cambridge?+

No, and this is the single most useful thing to establish before hiring. Cambridge separate sciences and Co-ordinated Sciences include a practical component worth 20 per cent, taken as Paper 5, a practical test with apparatus, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical in written form. Pearson Edexcel Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1 and Physics 4PH1 have no separate practical paper and assess those skills inside the written papers. A tutor prepared for the wrong structure will waste months.

Is the Cambridge practical paper worth tutoring if we have no laboratory at home?+

Yes, and it does not need apparatus. The practical and alternative-to-practical papers test a narrow, learnable set of skills: reading a scale to the right precision, identifying variables in an unfamiliar method, spotting a flaw in a procedure, proposing a specific improvement, plotting a graph with sensible axes, drawing a line of best fit and reading a value from it. All of that is taught by marking past practical questions against the published scheme. It is also the same skill set in all three sciences.

Why is electricity the most requested physics topic among Jumeirah families?+

Because it is where the gap between knowing the rules and applying them shows most sharply. A student can recite how current and potential difference behave in series and parallel and still fail a question built on an unfamiliar circuit diagram, because the question requires reading the circuit rather than recalling the rule. That is a practice problem rather than a knowledge problem, and it responds quickly to marked past-paper work on progressively less familiar diagrams.

Our mock results were bad across all three sciences. Where do we start?+

With the scripts rather than the grades, and with one diagnostic session. Marks lost uniformly across three sciences almost always share a cause: either quantitative technique, or writing to the mark allocation, or the practical and data questions. Each of those is one session a week rather than three. Booking three separate subject tutors in that situation triples the cost and addresses the shared cause only incidentally. Start with the pattern, then decide how many hours the pattern actually needs.

When do IGCSE science exams run for students in Dubai?+

UAE candidates sit Cambridge in the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so disregard any February or March dates quoted by a tutor or a website. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. As checkable reference points, the Pearson November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026. Confirm current dates on the official timetable, since provisional versions get revised.

Which Cambridge zone timetable applies to a school on the Jumeirah coast?+

Ask the school, because it varies and the consequence of guessing is serious. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and the exam timetable differs between them. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. A tutor building a revision schedule should be working from the school's zone timetable rather than a generic one found through a search.

Does IB Gram send a science tutor to homes in LA Mer?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. LA Mer families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen-shared past papers and recorded sessions. For a three-science family that format solves a real problem: when the mark pattern changes after the mocks, a slot can move from physics to chemistry by a different tutor joining the call rather than by finding a second person who can reach the area.

How much does IGCSE science tutoring cost in the Dubai market?+

Published rates for qualified online subject tutors run AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase publishing AED 270 for specialist work. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the usual range at AED 180 to AED 350. Budget online options start lower, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65. Those figures belong to the named providers and were read in October 2026.

Do the two Co-ordinated Sciences grades both count towards MoE equivalency?+

On the British track a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among those five. One provider ranking for these searches states that six subjects are required, which is not what the published rule says. A double award in Co-ordinated Sciences contributes two of the five. Verify the current requirement through the Ministry of Education's own channel rather than relying on any tutoring website.

Should we switch from Core to Extended tier, and what does that cost in hours?+

The tier sets the grade ceiling, so it is the most consequential decision in the course: Cambridge Core is graded C to G and Extended A* to E. The honest way to decide is a single diagnostic hour on a marked Extended past paper, which shows whether the student is short of content or short of technique. Short of technique is recoverable within a term. Short of content across several topics, with the series close, usually is not, and protecting a strong Core grade is the better plan.

Can a tutor give us past papers and mark schemes for all three sciences?+

They should not, and a tutor who offers a folder of them has told you something useful. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge International and to Pearson, and the correct route is the official site or the school's own licensed access. A tutor references and links those materials rather than redistributing them. Working through a paper the student has legitimately obtained, marked against the published scheme, is the actual job and it does not require copying anything.

Find the codes, size the week, then choose what the two hours do

Three things settle a science tutoring plan for a LA Mer family, and none of them is an hourly rate. First, the specification codes, because Cambridge and Pearson differ on whether a practical paper exists at all. Second, the honest size of the week, which in this cluster is two tutored hours between a 3:30pm finish and the point where calculation work stops holding. Third, a marked mock script, which shows which failure mode those two hours should address. Take the free trial lesson, which is taught rather than pitched. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
