IGCSE Maths Tutor in LA Mer

An IGCSE maths tutor in LA Mer costs between AED 150 and AED 450 an hour depending on who you hire, and the gap between those two numbers has almost nothing to do with how far they drive. This page sets out the Dubai market rates with their sources, shows what each band buys on Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, and names the three places families in this part of Jumeirah usually lose money. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in LA Mer

What an IGCSE maths tutor in LA Mer actually costs, and what the price is paying for

Start with the number, because most pages in this search will not give you one. Published rates for IGCSE maths support in Dubai sit in five bands. University-student and budget online tutors advertise from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik listing from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE rates from AED 150. In-home one-to-one visits, travel included, run AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to AED 500. Named IGCSE and A-Level specialists sit at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium examiner-branded tutors reach AED 500 to AED 650, with BartyED at AED 650. Those are market figures from the providers named, not an IB Gram price list.

Now the part that matters for a family living in LA Mer. The jump from AED 150 to AED 350 is often sold as a quality difference, and sometimes it is. Frequently it is a travel difference. A tutor who drives from Al Barsha to the Jumeirah coast in the 5pm hour spends an unpaid hour on Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road and prices that hour into your lesson. You are paying for Dubai traffic at the same rate you are paying for mathematics. On a weekly booking across a two-year IGCSE course, the travel component alone can exceed AED 7,000.

The second cost that families underestimate is the subject-mismatch cost. IGCSE Mathematics is two different qualifications depending on the school. Cambridge 0580 splits into Core, graded C to G, and Extended, graded A* to E, and from the 2025 syllabus the Extended tier sits two papers: Paper 2 without a calculator over two hours and Paper 4 with a calculator over two hours, each carrying 100 marks and half the grade. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, code 4MA1, sits two papers of two hours each at Foundation or Higher tier, and a calculator is permitted in both. A tutor who has taught only one of those two structures will spend your first four paid hours learning the other one.

The third is sequencing. Families in this part of Dubai often book in January of the exam year, which leaves perhaps fourteen teaching weeks before the June series. That is enough to fix technique and topic gaps, and not enough to rebuild an algebra foundation laid in Year 8. Booking a single hour a week from the start of Year 10 costs less in total than booking three hours a week in a panic in Year 11, and produces a different result. The arithmetic of that is set out further down the page.

What IB Gram does with all of this is narrow. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India. What that buys an LA Mer family is a specialist chosen for the syllabus code their child sits rather than for a postcode, and an hour of teaching rather than fifty minutes of teaching and ten minutes of a tutor finding parking off Jumeirah Beach Road.

  • Market online rate for a qualified subject tutor: AED 150-300 an hour
  • Market in-home rate including travel: AED 180-500 an hour

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

LA Mer sits inside the Jumeirah and coast cluster, where British-curriculum schools dominate and most students meet IGCSE Mathematics in Years 10 and 11 before choosing A Level or the IB Diploma. These are the programmes the maths teaching on this page connects to.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The two-year qualification most British-curriculum students in Dubai sit at 16. Mathematics is almost always compulsory. Cambridge 0580 tiers into Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 tiers into Foundation and Higher. Tier choice fixes the grade ceiling, so it is a decision with a price attached, and it is usually made in Year 10 on the strength of a mock paper.

For MoE equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among those five. Mathematics is one of the five in practice for almost every LA Mer family, which is why a borderline maths grade is a costlier problem here than a borderline arts grade.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Several schools within a short drive of LA Mer run MYP rather than IGCSE to 16. MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria rather than terminal papers, and students who transfer into an IGCSE cohort mid-course arrive strong on investigation and weak on timed non-calculator technique. That gap is specific and it is cheap to close early.

A transfer from MYP 5 into an IGCSE Year 11 class in Dubai usually means picking up two years of Cambridge 0580 Extended past-paper convention in a single term. The cost of that catch-up is roughly ten focused hours, which at market online rates is AED 1,500 to AED 3,000, and it is far lower if the transfer is planned a term ahead.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Where many IGCSE students in the Jumeirah cluster go next. The Diploma splits mathematics into Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at Standard and Higher Level. A strong Extended tier result at 0580 is the normal entry signal for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, and a Core result closes that route off.

Families along the LA Mer and Jumeirah 1 strip often decide between A Level and the IB Diploma in the spring of Year 11. The maths grade is the hinge: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is the harder of the two routes and several Dubai schools set an Extended grade 7 or above as the condition for entry. Spending on maths in Year 10 is partly spending on that choice staying open.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE Mathematics is one qualification with several distinct cost centres inside it. These are the topic blocks that generate the most paid hours among families in the Jumeirah and coast cluster, with what each actually demands.

Algebraic manipulation and rearrangement

Core and Extended

The topic that quietly determines the whole grade. Expanding, factorising, changing the subject of a formula and simplifying algebraic fractions appear inside almost every other question. A student weak here loses marks in geometry, mechanics-style problems and statistics without the mark scheme ever mentioning algebra.

Quadratics: factorising, formula and completing the square

Extended only

Extended tier expects all three methods and expects the student to choose. Completing the square is the one most often skipped in class and most often needed, because turning-point questions and sketching questions depend on it. Two taught hours here usually recovers more marks than two hours of revision cards.

Functions, graphs and transformations

Extended, with graph sketching at Core

Reading a graph is a Core skill; transforming one is Extended. Students lose marks by describing a transformation in words when the paper asks for notation, and by sketching without labelling intercepts or asymptotes. Both are corrigible in a single session with past-paper mark schemes open.

Trigonometry, including non-right-angled triangles

Extended

Sine rule, cosine rule and the area formula, plus bearings and three-dimensional problems. The common loss is not the rule but the diagram: students do not draw, so they pick the wrong rule. Teaching the diagram habit is faster than teaching the trigonometry again.

Number: ratio, proportion, percentage change and reverse percentages

Core and Extended

High-frequency, low-glamour, and a reliable source of dropped marks on the non-calculator paper. Reverse percentage and compound interest questions are the two that separate a grade 6 from a grade 7, and they are pure technique rather than insight.

Mensuration and similar shapes

Core and Extended

Surface area and volume of cylinders, cones, spheres and composite solids, plus area and volume scale factors for similar shapes. The scale-factor squared and cubed rule is the single most commonly misremembered fact on the Extended papers, and it recurs every series.

Probability and set notation

Core and Extended

Tree diagrams, Venn diagrams and conditional probability without replacement. Students lose marks by not writing the second-branch probability as a changed fraction, and by shading a Venn region that does not match the notation given. Both errors are visible in two minutes of marked work.

Statistics: cumulative frequency, histograms and averages from tables

Core and Extended

Histograms with unequal class widths require frequency density, and that is the reliable trap. Cumulative frequency questions reward careful reading of the axis rather than calculation. This block is where a well-prepared Core candidate can protect a grade rather than chase one.

Vectors and vector geometry

Extended

Column vectors, magnitude, and proving collinearity or ratio along a line. Students who can compute a vector often cannot write the reasoning sentence the mark scheme wants, which is where the method marks sit. A tutor's job here is the written argument, not the arithmetic.

Non-calculator arithmetic and estimation

Cambridge Paper 2 specifically

A Cambridge-specific cost. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers; Cambridge 0580 does not permit one in Paper 2. A student moving between the two syllabuses, or one who has leaned on a calculator since Year 7, needs deliberate rebuilding of standard form, surds and fraction work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying IGCSE maths support turn up in LA Mer households, and they do not cost the same per unit of progress. All IB Gram teaching listed here is delivered one-to-one over live video.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed hour each week across the Year 10 and Year 11 course, with the tutor following the school's own scheme of work and the specific past papers the school sets. This is the lowest total-cost route because it prevents the gap rather than repairing it, and because no part of the hourly rate is paying for a car.

  • One hour weekly, same slot, Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutor matched to the syllabus code the school uses
  • Written note after each session naming the topics covered
  • Session recording available for revision

Intensive block before a mock or the June series

Two or three sessions a week for six to eight weeks, aimed at a diagnosed list of topics rather than the whole syllabus. Priced per hour at the same rate, so the total is higher; worth it when a mock paper has produced a clear, short list of failures. Not worth it as a substitute for a year of teaching.

  • Starts from a marked mock paper, not from the first chapter
  • Two or three hours weekly across six to eight weeks
  • Timed paper practice under exam conditions
  • A written triage list so the spend is visible

Diagnostic single session

One hour spent marking and discussing recent work to establish where the marks are actually going before any ongoing commitment. Families in this cluster often discover the problem is non-calculator arithmetic rather than the topic the school flagged, which changes what should be bought next.

  • One paid hour, no ongoing booking required
  • Student brings a marked paper or class test
  • Output is a topic list with mark values attached
  • Free trial lesson available before this is booked

What the Dubai market charges for IGCSE maths, by provider model

  • Cheapest band: AED 33-65 an hour, published by Tutopiya and EdFlik
  • Qualified online subject tutor: from AED 150, published by Unitors
  • In-home including travel: AED 180-500 across Bestimate and independent tutors
  • Specialist: AED 270 published by TutorChase; premium examiner-branded reaches AED 650

An IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai costs between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and the spread is explained by provider model rather than by subject. The table below sets out each model with the published figures and the provider that published them, read in October 2026. Nothing here is an IB Gram price list.

Read the table from the cheapest row upwards rather than from the premium row down, because that is the order in which a family's money is actually at risk. The AED 45 to AED 65 band buys a tutor who can answer a textbook question. It does not reliably buy someone who has marked a Cambridge 0580 Paper 2 against the published mark scheme and can tell you which two marks your child dropped on a reverse-percentage question. For topic-gap work in Years 7 to 9 that distinction may not matter. In the twelve weeks before the June series it is the only thing that matters.

The in-home row is the one worth looking at hardest, because it is the only row whose price contains something other than teaching. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350; independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to AED 500. Monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions are commonly quoted at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799, against AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. That comparison is not subtle. For the same monthly outlay you are choosing between four long in-home sessions and roughly sixteen online ones.

Cambridge 0580 against Pearson Edexcel 4MA1: why the code on the paper changes the bill

Before paying anyone, find out which syllabus code your child's school enters them for. The answer is on the exam entry statement and the school's maths department will confirm it in a sentence. It changes which past papers are useful, which tier decision is coming, and whether non-calculator technique is a cost centre at all.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 tiers into Core and Extended. From the 2025 syllabus, Core candidates sit Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 3 with one, each one hour thirty minutes. Extended candidates sit Paper 2 without a calculator and Paper 4 with one, each two hours and 100 marks, carrying half the grade apiece. Core is graded C to G and Extended A* to E, so the tier decision sets a ceiling before a single paper is marked.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, code 4MA1, works differently. There are two papers of two hours each, both with a calculator permitted, and the tiers are Foundation and Higher. A student who has spent a year drilling Cambridge non-calculator technique has spent part of that year on something 4MA1 does not test in the same way. The reverse is sharper: a 4MA1 student moved to 0580 Extended meets a two-hour non-calculator paper for the first time, which is a real and quantifiable catch-up cost.

This is the first place families in LA Mer waste money. A tutor hired on proximity and general reputation, with no question asked about the code, spends the opening sessions calibrating. At AED 250 an hour, three calibration sessions is AED 750 spent on something a single question at booking would have prevented.

Online against in-home in LA Mer: the same hour at two prices

Home tutoring is what most LA Mer parents search for, so it deserves a straight answer rather than a redirection. In-home one-to-one maths tuition in Dubai is widely available, it is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, and for some families the simple fact of a person sitting at the kitchen table is worth the premium. That is a legitimate preference and this page is not going to pretend otherwise.

What the premium does not buy is a wider choice of tutor. It narrows it. A tutor who must physically reach LA Mer on a Tuesday at 5pm is drawn from the set of people who live close enough and are free at that hour, which in practice is a small set, and it is smaller again once you require someone who has taught Cambridge 0580 Extended Paper 2 specifically. The usual outcome is a competent general maths tutor rather than a specialist, at the specialist price.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Lessons for LA Mer families are delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing for past-paper work. The practical consequence is that the pool a family chooses from is the whole pool rather than the twenty-minute radius, and that the hour billed is an hour taught.

The table sets the two formats side by side on the things that actually differ. Note the row on cancelled sessions: in-home bookings lost to traffic or illness are the hidden cost nobody quotes, and across an exam year they matter more than the headline rate.

The three places LA Mer families lose money on maths tuition

  • Two one-hour sessions beat one two-hour block for technical maths work
  • Supervision does not need a specialist rate; mark-scheme diagnosis does
  • Seventy hours spread across two years costs less than forty compressed into one term
  • Leave unsupervised practice time in the week or the paid hours stop compounding

The first is the two-hour in-home block. It exists because a tutor who has driven for forty minutes needs the trip to be worth making, not because a fourteen-year-old concentrates on quadratics for 120 minutes. Attention on technical maths work degrades sharply after about fifty minutes. Two one-hour sessions on different days teach more than one two-hour session, and the market monthly packages are priced the other way round because of travel economics rather than pedagogy.

The second is paying specialist rates for homework supervision. A great deal of what is billed at AED 250 to AED 350 an hour in this cluster is a competent adult sitting beside a student while the student does the homework the school set. That has value, and it is not worth AED 300. If the requirement is supervision and momentum, the budget online band exists and is honest about what it is. Pay the specialist rate when the task is mark-scheme work: diagnosing why a method mark was lost, rebuilding non-calculator arithmetic, or converting a grade 6 into a grade 7 on the Extended papers.

The third, and the most expensive, is starting late. Fourteen weeks before the June series, a tutor can fix technique, teach exam convention and drill a list of named topics. A foundation problem in algebraic manipulation laid down in Year 8 needs a different and longer intervention, and compressing it into a term means paying for three hours a week where one would have done. A single weekly hour from the start of Year 10 is roughly seventy hours across the course; the panic route is often forty hours in one term at the same rate, with less to show.

There is a fourth that is less about money. Buying tuition in more subjects than a student can absorb produces a week with no unsupervised study in it, and unsupervised practice is where maths is actually learned. Two subjects supported properly beats five supported thinly, and it costs less.

05

Cost in context: tuition against the rest of a Dubai school bill

Tutoring is a line in a larger budget, and in Dubai that budget has been unusually stable. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. For a family planning two years of IGCSE support, that is a rare piece of certainty to plan against.

The scale of the market around that decision is worth knowing. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

What that means for a maths tuition budget is supply. A deep British-curriculum market means a deep pool of people who have taught Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, and it also means a deep pool of people who have taught maths generally and will quote the same rate. The scarcity is not teachers; it is teachers who have marked these specific papers against these specific mark schemes. Pricing in this market does not reliably signal that distinction, which is why asking about the syllabus code does more for your budget than comparing hourly rates.

The table below is a planning tool rather than a quotation. It uses the published market bands to show what different commitments cost across a term and across the two-year IGCSE course, so that the decision is made against a total rather than against an hourly figure.

The exam calendar counted backwards from the June series

Spending decisions make more sense when they are placed on the calendar, and this is a part of the picture no competitor page in this search sets out. UAE candidates sit Cambridge in the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so an LA Mer family should disregard any February or March dates they see quoted. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November.

Dates that are publicly checkable are worth stating with their provenance. For Pearson, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are backward-looking citations and they give a reliable shape to the year even as specific future dates shift. Always check the live official timetable before acting on any of them, because provisional timetables are revised.

One Cambridge administrative detail deserves attention from any family in the Gulf. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask the school which zone it sits in rather than downloading the first timetable a search returns.

Counting backwards, the spending shape falls out on its own. Entries are made months before the papers. Mocks sit in the winter term and are the only honest diagnostic a family gets. The last genuinely useful intervention window closes several weeks before the first paper, because the final fortnight belongs to the student's own timed practice rather than to new teaching.

How to verify that a tutor you pay in Dubai is permitted to teach

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services, with a two-working-day completion time
  • No fine amounts are published, so treat any quoted figure with caution

This is a question about money as much as about legality, because an unverifiable tutor is an unverifiable invoice. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years.

Eligibility is broader than many families expect. It covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fees stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

Two further points apply specifically to this cluster. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. Separately, in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

The practical test for a parent is short. Ask whether the person holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit. Ask whether your child is enrolled at the school where that person teaches. Both answers should come back without hesitation, and neither costs you anything to obtain.

08

What a maths tutor may and may not do with your child's assessed work

IGCSE Mathematics is examined by terminal papers, which means the academic-honesty question looks simpler here than it does in a coursework subject. It is not absent. Students in the Jumeirah cluster frequently sit IGCSE maths alongside subjects that do carry assessed coursework, and several go on to the IB Diploma where the mathematical exploration is 20 per cent of the grade.

The boundary is the same in every case and it is worth stating plainly, because at least one operator in this search sells completed Internal Assessments. A tutor teaches, explains, sets practice, marks work and gives feedback on what the student has produced. A tutor does not write, complete or redraft an assessed piece, and no tutor on this platform will do so. A student who submits work that is not their own risks a malpractice finding, and that risk sits with the student rather than with the person who sold them the shortcut.

For maths specifically the useful version of this is narrow and concrete. A tutor can teach the technique a question needs, work through a parallel problem, mark the student's attempt against the published mark scheme and explain why a method mark was awarded or withheld. A tutor can teach a student how to structure a written vector-geometry argument. A tutor cannot sit beside a student during a timed school assessment, and should not be asked to supply solutions to a paper the school is still using.

Nor should anyone offer you downloaded syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as a package. Those materials belong to Cambridge International and to Pearson, and the correct route is the official site or the school's own licensed access. A tutor who arrives with a folder of copied mark schemes is telling you something about their standards before the first lesson begins.

Villa streets immediately inland from LA Mer, feeding the Jumeirah and Al Safa school cluster. Visiting tutors quote the same AED 180 to AED 500 in-home band here, and the same unpaid travel hour sits behind it.

Pearl Jumeira

The reclaimed island directly north, reached by a single access road. Families here face the same tutor-pool limitation: a short radius contains plenty of general tutors and very few 0580 Extended specialists.

City Walk

High-density low-rise apartments inland across Al Wasl Road. Visitor parking and building access add fifteen minutes to any in-home booking, which is a cost paid in lesson time rather than in dirhams.

Al Wasl

The corridor between Jumeirah and Al Safa, carrying most of the school traffic for this cluster. A tutor driving in from Al Barsha or Business Bay crosses it twice, which is the travel premium made visible.

Jumeirah 2

Established villa plots with a high proportion of British-curriculum families. IGCSE maths is the most requested single subject here, and demand peaks in the mock window before the June series.

Jumeirah 3

Further along the coast towards Umm Suqeim, with longer internal drives. Online delivery removes the distance question entirely, which is why rates here do not need to carry a travel component.

Umm Suqeim

Home to several large British-curriculum schools and a correspondingly deep local tutor market for Key Stage 3 maths, and a thin one for Extended tier work on specific past papers.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in LA Mer

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Al Wasl

The school cluster LA Mer families draw on most. These schools run British curriculum to 16, which means Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 in Years 10 and 11, with A Level or the IB Diploma afterwards. Knowing which code a school uses changes which past papers are worth buying.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Horizon English School Dubai
  • Safa British School
  • GEMS Jumeirah Primary School
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • The English College Dubai
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School

Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha

The next cluster west, within a twenty-minute drive in off-peak conditions and considerably more at 4pm. Several of these schools run the IB continuum rather than IGCSE, which is why a tutor sourced purely by proximity may not have taught the syllabus your child sits.

  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Dubai College
  • Wellington International School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Repton School Dubai

Named schools are listed as context for the local education market only. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any school or school group is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Tell us the syllabus code

The first question is whether the school enters your child for Cambridge 0580 or Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, and at which tier. That single answer determines which past papers matter, whether non-calculator technique is a cost centre, and which tutors are worth matching. It is on the exam entry statement.

  2. 02

    Take the free trial lesson

A full one-to-one session over live video at no charge, with the student rather than with you. It is a working lesson, not a sales call: the tutor looks at recent marked work and starts teaching. If the match is wrong, say so and nothing is owed.

  3. 03

Get a diagnosis with mark values attached

After the trial, the tutor writes a short topic list drawn from marked work, with the approximate marks each gap is costing on the papers your child will sit. This is what makes the spending decision a decision rather than a guess, and it is what distinguishes paid teaching from paid supervision.

  4. 04

Pick a cadence and hold it

A fixed weekly hour in the same Gulf Standard Time slot, agreed around the school run and the rest of the week. One hour weekly across Years 10 and 11 is the lowest-total-cost route. Intensive blocks are available but should be bought against a diagnosed list, not as a replacement for teaching.

  5. 05

Review against the calendar, not the clock

Progress is reviewed at the mock window and again ten to twelve weeks before the series, which is when the remaining paid hours are worth most. In the final four weeks the hours taper deliberately so the student has unsupervised timed practice, which is where the technique actually sets.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates on this page carry their sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it and dated to when it was read. Three of the six ranking pages in this search publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars. A number you can check is worth more than a number that flatters us.

You pay for teaching, not for driving

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, so no part of the hourly rate is covering a drive across Al Wasl Road at 5pm. The hour you buy is an hour of teaching, from the first minute, and it does not disappear when Jumeirah Beach Road does.

Matched on the syllabus code, not the postcode

A tutor is matched to Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, or to Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher, because the papers differ in duration, calculator rules and grade range. Proximity tells you nothing about whether someone has marked the paper your child will sit.

A free trial before any money moves

The first full session costs nothing and is taught rather than pitched. The condition is simple and stated here: one trial lesson per student, before a booking is made. If the student does not want to go back, that is the answer and nothing is owed.

Honest about what tutoring cannot do

No grade is promised and no outcome is guaranteed, because nobody can honestly promise one. What is on offer is diagnosed teaching against a named syllabus, a written record of what was covered, and a clear statement of where paid hours stop being the best use of your money.

Clear about where we do not operate

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are offered only in India. Saying so on the page rather than at the end of a sales call is the point: you should know what you are buying before you spend an evening finding out.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in LA Mer: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE maths tutor in LA Mer cost per hour?+

Published Dubai market rates run from about AED 33 to AED 650 an hour. Tutopiya lists from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 at the budget end. Unitors publishes IGCSE rates from AED 150 for a qualified online subject tutor. TutorChase publishes AED 270 for specialist work, and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500. Those are market figures from the named providers, read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. Ask for the current rate and the free trial before committing.

Is online maths tuition cheaper than a home tutor coming to LA Mer?+

Usually, and for a structural reason. The in-home band of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour includes an unpaid driving hour that the tutor prices in. Market monthly packages make the gap visible: roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. For the same outlay you are choosing between four long visits and around sixteen shorter online lessons. The second difference matters more than the money: online removes the driving radius, so the pool you choose from contains specialists rather than only whoever lives nearby and is free at five o'clock.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to our villa or apartment in LA Mer?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Lessons for LA Mer families are delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing for past-paper work. The page is deliberately plain about this because the search term is a home-tutor term and you should know before you spend an evening on a call. What the online format buys is a tutor chosen for the syllabus code your child sits rather than for how close they live.

Which IGCSE maths syllabus does my child's school in the Jumeirah cluster use?+

It will be either Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, code 4MA1, and the two are not interchangeable. The code appears on the exam entry statement, and the maths department will confirm it in one email. It matters because Cambridge 0580 includes a two-hour paper with no calculator while 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers, and because the tier names differ: Core and Extended against Foundation and Higher. Establish the code before hiring anyone, or the first paid sessions go on calibration rather than teaching.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended in cost terms?+

Core is graded C to G; Extended is graded A* to E. That difference sets a ceiling, so the tier decision is the most financially significant choice in the course. Core candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 3 at one hour thirty minutes each; Extended candidates sit Paper 2 and Paper 4 at two hours and 100 marks each. Extended tutoring tends to cost more in total because the content is deeper and the non-calculator paper is longer, not because the hourly rate differs. A single diagnostic hour on a mock paper is the cheapest way to make the tier decision well.

Can one weekly hour really be enough for IGCSE maths?+

For most students who are broadly coping, yes, provided it starts early and the week leaves time for unsupervised practice. One hour weekly across Years 10 and 11 is roughly seventy hours of teaching. The alternative families often end up buying is around forty hours compressed into the final term at the same hourly rate, which costs less in total and achieves less, because a foundation gap in algebraic manipulation needs months rather than weeks. If a mock paper shows failures across several unrelated topics, two hours a week for a fixed block is the better purchase.

Why do tutors quote more for sessions in the Jumeirah and coast area?+

Because of the drive rather than the mathematics. A tutor coming from Al Barsha or Business Bay to the Jumeirah 1 shoreline in the 5pm hour crosses Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road at their worst, and that unpaid hour is priced into the lesson. Across a weekly booking over two years the travel component alone can exceed AED 7,000. Nothing in that figure buys better teaching. Online delivery removes it, which is why the published online band for a qualified subject tutor sits well below the in-home band for comparable experience.

My child has fourteen weeks before the June series. What should we spend on?+

Buy one diagnostic hour first, on a marked mock paper, and turn it into a topic list with approximate mark values attached. Then spend ten to twelve weeks teaching that list rather than the syllabus. In the final four weeks reduce the paid hours deliberately and protect timed, unsupervised practice, which is where exam technique actually sets. Fourteen weeks is enough to fix technique, exam convention and a short list of named topics. It is not enough to rebuild arithmetic laid down in Year 8, and spending as though it were is the most common way money disappears here.

When do UAE students sit IGCSE maths exams, and what about the February series?+

UAE candidates sit Cambridge in the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so disregard any February or March dates quoted at you by a tutor or a website. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. As checkable reference points: the Pearson November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026. Confirm current dates against the official timetable, since provisional timetables are revised before each series.

Which Cambridge zone timetable should a LA Mer family be planning revision against?+

Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs by zone. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. For a family in Dubai the practical step is to ask the school which zone it sits in, rather than downloading the first timetable a search returns. A tutor planning a revision schedule should be working from the school's zone timetable, not a generic one.

Is a cheap AED 50 an hour maths tutor ever the right choice?+

Sometimes, if you are honest about the task. The AED 33 to AED 65 band published by Tutopiya and EdFlik buys someone who can explain a textbook question and keep a student working. For homework momentum in Years 7 to 9 that is adequate and the cheaper rate is the sensible one. It does not reliably buy someone who has marked a Cambridge 0580 Paper 2 against the published mark scheme and can identify the two method marks your child lost. In the twelve weeks before a series, that specific skill is the only thing worth paying for.

Does my maths tuition budget need to allow for a resit?+

Holding a small reserve is sensible rather than pessimistic. The November series exists as a resit route for UAE candidates, and a decision taken in August about a June result needs money available in September. As a checkable shape for the year: Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November resit means a result arriving in the following January rather than in the summer. Factor that timing into any university or sixth-form application that depends on the grade, and confirm current deadlines with the school's exams officer.

How do I check that a maths tutor in Dubai is legally permitted to teach?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, so there is no cost reason for anyone to lack one. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Also ask whether your child is enrolled at the school where that person teaches, because the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. No fine amounts are published, so treat any quoted figure sceptically.

Can a tutor help with the mathematical exploration if my child moves to the IB Diploma?+

Within clear limits, yes. The exploration is worth 20 per cent of the Diploma mathematics grade and it must be the student's own work. A tutor can teach the mathematics the student has chosen to use, explain what each assessment criterion is asking for, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor does not write, complete or redraft it, and will not do so. One operator in this search sells completed Internal Assessments; submitting purchased work is a malpractice risk that falls on the student, not on the seller.

How many subjects should we buy tutoring in at once?+

Fewer than most families start with. A week filled with paid sessions leaves no unsupervised study time, and unsupervised practice is where maths is learned rather than explained. Two subjects supported properly produces more than five supported thinly, and it costs less. If the mock results show problems in four subjects, the honest sequence is to fix the one carrying the most marks first, hold the others at school level for a term, and revisit. A tutor who encourages you to book everything at once is selling hours rather than diagnosing a problem.

Start with the syllabus code and a free trial, not with an hourly rate

The single most useful thing an LA Mer family can do before spending anything is find out whether the school enters their child for Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, and at which tier. That answer narrows the search faster than any price comparison. After that, take the free trial lesson, which is a taught session rather than a pitch, and ask the tutor for a topic list with mark values attached. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the rate carries no travel component and the hour you book is the hour that gets taught. No grade is promised, because no honest tutor can promise one.
