IGCSE Tutor near me in LA Mer

Looking for an IGCSE tutor near me in LA Mer usually starts as a convenience question and ends as a budget one. This page prices it the way it actually spends: cheapest option first, then how many hours a subject really takes, what the Core and Extended decision does to the total, and which extras get added to the invoice. Lessons for LA Mer families run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Priced per grade and per subject, not as a vague hourly range
  • Cambridge and Pearson codes separated, because the papers differ
  • Live online one-to-one delivery; IB Gram runs no UAE home visits

IB & IGCSE in LA Mer

Start at the cheap end and work up, because that is how the money spends

Most pages answering this search open with premium pricing and work down, which flatters the writer and misleads the reader. Do it the other way. The cheapest published online tutoring in the Dubai market starts at AED 33 to AED 52 an hour at Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik. Those figures are real and they are sometimes exactly right: for a Year 8 student who needs someone to sit with them while they work, the cheap tier does the job and anything more is waste. The error families make is not buying cheap. It is buying cheap for a Year 11 Extended candidate, where the person on the other end has never seen the mark scheme for the paper being sat.

One step up, a qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing its IGCSE tuition from AED 150. A specialist in an examined subject runs AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table giving 200 to 450 or more. At the top, premium named tutors reach AED 650 at BartyED. Every one of those numbers was read from the provider that published it in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price, and this page publishes no IB Gram price list, because a made-up figure sitting next to sourced ones would poison all of them.

Now the number that actually matters, which nobody publishes: hours per subject. An IGCSE subject that is going adequately and needs polishing takes something like eight to twelve hours across a year. A subject with a real gap in the Core foundations takes twenty-five to forty. A student starting Extended content from a weak Core base can absorb more than that and still be short. Multiply hours by rate and you get the real decision, and once you do the arithmetic the hourly rate stops being the variable that dominates. The hour count does.

This is also where the near me part of the search becomes a cost line rather than a convenience. A tutor who drives to a LA Mer address prices the drive into the hour, and on the Jumeirah Road at six in the evening the drive is long. Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to AED 500 including travel against AED 150 to AED 300 for the same tutor online. Ask a visiting tutor for their online rate and the gap is usually AED 80 to AED 150 for identical teaching. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; that is an India-only service, and everything for LA Mer is delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

What follows is the arithmetic in full: hours by subject at three price points, what the Core and Extended decision costs, how Cambridge and Pearson differ on the same subject and why booking the wrong board wastes the lot, the extras that appear on invoices, which five subjects your spend should protect for Ministry of Education equivalency, when group teaching is genuinely the better buy, and what a November resit should be budgeted at before results day rather than after it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Spending decisions differ sharply by stage, and the cheapest grade is almost never bought in the examined year. These are the stages a LA Mer family passes through and where the money does most work at each.

Y7-9Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary, before IGCSE begins

No external certificate at stake, Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests available in March, May and October. The budget tier genuinely works here, because the task is usually fluency and habit rather than examination technique. An hour a week at AED 60 on algebraic manipulation in Year 8 does work that forty hours at AED 300 in Year 11 cannot replicate.

Families arriving on the Jumeirah coast mid-year frequently land in Years 7 to 9 with a method mismatch rather than an ability gap, which no school assessment will name for them. This is the cheapest window a Dubai family will ever get to fix it, and the one most commonly skipped.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE year one

Content is taught for the first time and the tier decision is usually made or confirmed. Support here costs mid-band rates and buys the most grade movement per dirham of any stage, because a topic learned properly the first time does not have to be relearned under exam pressure. Eight to twelve hours across the year is a common and sufficient commitment.

In Dubai this is also the year the KHDA mandatory subjects start showing up on reports in a way parents notice, since Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the licensed curriculum. Budget for it rather than meeting it as a surprise in a January report.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE examined year

The most expensive year and the least efficient, because recall and method cannot be rebuilt as fast as they were lost. Specialist rates apply, hours climb, and the useful work is past papers under timing with mark schemes read by the student. Exam-year specialist support is the only tier where the Dubai market routinely exceeds AED 2,000 a month.

Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series; the February and March series is India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Knowing which series and which zone your school uses determines when the money should be spent.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level or IB Diploma

Where the IGCSE decisions get paid for or get expensive. A student who took Additional Mathematics and did it properly walks into AS Mathematics; one who scraped Extended maths meets calculus notation unprepared. Specialist post-16 tuition sits in the same AED 200 to AED 450 band in published market data.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, is required alongside the five IGCSE subjects. That sourced requirement is worth checking before dropping a fourth AS to save a tuition line.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The hour counts below are the realistic shape of a year's support per subject on the Jumeirah coast, not a price list. Multiply by the tier you intend to buy and you have your actual budget.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The subject most often bought and most often over-bought. A student with solid number and algebra needs eight to twelve hours of technique work across Year 11. A student whose algebra is unreliable needs thirty or more, because every later topic depends on it. Diagnose the algebra before agreeing a package.

Additional Mathematics

IGCSE Additional

Taken by students heading to A Level Mathematics, often at Dubai College and Jumeirah College. Calculus and proof structure appear here first. Twelve to twenty hours spread across the year, and it is one of the few subjects where paying specialist rates in Year 10 saves real money at AS.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Three components including a practical or alternative-to-practical paper. Electricity reasoning with real component values is where Extended candidates in Dubai schools lose most. Twelve to eighteen hours typically, concentrated on two or three topics rather than spread evenly across the syllabus.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles arithmetic carries through most of the course, so a Year 10 weakness is still costing marks in Year 11 organic questions. Qualitative analysis is recall and is the cheapest set of marks on the paper to recover. Ten to eighteen hours, front-loaded onto quantitative work.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy but command-term sensitive. The expensive misdiagnosis here is buying content revision when the problem is answering the verb in the question. Eight to fourteen hours is usually enough, and a tutor who starts with a marked paper will see which of the two it is in one session.

English Language

First Language and Second Language

Reading response, summary and directed writing carry the marks. Sitting the wrong specification for a student's actual fluency costs a grade before teaching starts, and that is a free fix made by asking the school. Ten to sixteen hours, mostly on timing and on writing to a specified audience.

English Literature

IGCSE

Argument rather than retelling. A paragraph summarising the plot of a set text sits in the bottom band however well written, and breaking that habit takes about four sessions. Eight to twelve hours total, which makes Literature one of the better value subjects to buy help in.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE

Data response plus extended writing with heavy evaluation weighting. UAE students have abundant real context and rarely use it. The marks sit in the judgement sentence at the end of an evaluative answer. Eight to twelve hours, almost all of it on answer structure rather than content.

Computer Science

IGCSE

Theory plus problem solving and programming. Pseudocode conventions are examined precisely, so fluent Python coders still drop marks on paper. Trace tables and binary arithmetic are high-yield and under-practised. Eight to fourteen hours, with a disproportionate return on the paper-based technique.

Arabic as a Second Language

IGCSE and KHDA mandatory stream

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic alongside the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arabs and non-Arabs because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Short frequent sessions beat long weekly ones, so the efficient purchase is thirty minutes three times a week rather than ninety once.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchase shapes, cheapest first. All IB Gram delivery is live online and one-to-one; group and in-home models are described because they are what you are comparing against.

Repair block: two to four sessions on one named topic

The cheapest intervention available and the most under-bought. Four sessions on moles arithmetic, or on electrical circuits, or on summary writing, diagnosed from the student's own marked paper, and then stop. At specialist rates this is a few hundred dirhams in total and it closes the thing that was actually losing marks.

  • Diagnosed from a marked paper, not from a report grade
  • Two to four sessions with a defined end point
  • No package, no ongoing commitment
  • Repeat later for a different topic if one appears

Weekly single subject across the year

One hour a week from September, following the school's scheme of work. In Dubai market terms this sits at roughly AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month at mid-band rates on Bestimate's estimates. It is the best value route to a grade because the hours land while the content is being taught rather than being bought back in April.

  • Same tutor every week, so nothing is re-explained
  • Paused for the school's own assessment weeks
  • Session notes listing what was not finished
  • Reviewed at six sessions against a named weakness

Examination block before June or November

Two or three sessions a week in the final six to twelve weeks, worked entirely on past papers under timing. Exam-year specialist support is where the Dubai market reaches AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 a month and above on published estimates. It is the most expensive route per grade and the right one for a student who is close and misfiring.

  • Full papers under exam timing from session one
  • Mark schemes read by the student, not applied for them
  • A written list of topics not worth revising
  • Ends on the final paper, with no rollover

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in LA Mer

01

Price per grade, not price per hour

  • Hours needed varies three-fold by subject and starting point; rates vary less
  • A narrow diagnosed problem is cheapest served by the most expensive tutor
  • Broad content catch-up is cheapest served by the mid tier
  • Homework supervision is cheapest served by the budget tier and nothing else

The useful calculation multiplies hours by rate, and the hours vary far more than the rate. Take a Year 11 Cambridge 0580 Extended student whose problem is two topics rather than the whole subject. Twelve hours with a specialist at AED 280 is AED 3,360. The same student put on a weekly generalist hour from September at AED 180 buys thirty-six hours for AED 6,480, covers the entire syllabus again, and may never touch the two topics that were losing the marks. The cheaper hourly rate produced the more expensive year.

Run it the other way and the logic still holds. A Year 8 student who needs company and structure while doing homework gets nothing extra from a specialist. Forty hours at AED 60 is AED 2,400 and does exactly the job. Forty hours at AED 280 is AED 11,200 and does the same job with a more qualified person sitting through it. Matching tier to task is the entire skill in buying tutoring, and it is the thing no provider page explains because explaining it reduces what they sell you.

The table below runs three realistic LA Mer scenarios against three tiers. The point is not the exact figures, which depend on how many hours a particular child needs, but the shape: for a diagnosed, narrow problem the specialist is cheaper in total; for broad content coverage the mid tier is sufficient; for supervision the budget tier is correct. Diagnose first, then choose a tier, then ask about the rate. Doing it in the other order is how families end up with the wrong three thousand dirhams.

02

The Core and Extended decision is a budget decision

Several Cambridge IGCSE subjects are tiered, and the tier your child is entered for sets a ceiling on the grade available. On the 0580 Mathematics structure, Core caps at a mid grade while Extended reaches the top. That single fact reframes a great deal of tutoring spend. A family paying specialist rates for forty hours chasing a top grade while their child is entered for Core is buying something the specification does not sell, and no amount of teaching changes that.

The inverse error is more common and more expensive. A student is moved up to Extended on the strength of effort rather than attainment, arrives with gaps in the Core content that Extended assumes, and then needs the Core material closed before any Extended technique is worth teaching. That doubles the hours. A tutor who checks the tier and the Core foundations in the first session will tell you this; a tutor who starts teaching Extended content on day one will bill you for the discovery three months later.

So ask the school two questions before you buy anything, in writing if you can. Which tier is my child entered for in each tiered subject, and when is that entry confirmed? Entry deadlines sit months before the exam window, which means there is a period in which the tier can still be changed and a period in which it cannot. Spending decisions made inside that window are reversible; spending decisions made after it are not. The table sets out what each tier actually buys.

Cambridge or Pearson: booking the wrong board wastes every hour

A LA Mer parent hiring an IGCSE tutor near them is rarely asked which board, and it is the question that determines whether the hours are useful. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel both award International GCSE qualifications, in the same subjects, with different syllabus codes, different paper structures and different tiering arrangements. Cambridge uses four-digit codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology. Pearson uses codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1.

The practical consequences are concrete. Past papers from the wrong board teach the wrong question style. Mark scheme conventions differ. The availability and operation of tiering differs by subject and board. Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series; Pearson International GCSE runs May/June and November. A tutor who works from the wrong board's material will teach your child competent content and leave them unprepared for the paper in front of them, which is the most expensive form of competent teaching available.

There is a second trap. Schools do not always enter every subject with the same board. A Dubai school may use Cambridge for the sciences and Pearson for maths, or the reverse, and a parent who asks once and assumes it applies across the board will book two tutors correctly and one wrongly. Get the board and the syllabus code per subject from the school in writing, give it to the tutor before the trial lesson, and ask the tutor to confirm which board's papers they will use. That exchange costs nothing and protects the whole budget.

The extras that appear on an invoice

The hourly rate is the advertised number and rarely the whole bill. A travelling tutor's time is priced in, but so sometimes is a minimum session length, a cancellation window, a materials charge, a registration or matching fee, and a minimum package commitment. None of these are improper. All of them are worth establishing before the first session, because a family comparing AED 180 with AED 220 an hour may be comparing a flexible hourly arrangement with a ten-session minimum and a seventy-two-hour cancellation rule.

Three specific things to settle in writing. First, whether the quoted rate is per hour or per session, because a ninety-minute session at a per-session price is a different unit from an hourly one. Second, the cancellation policy and how much notice avoids a charge, which matters more in Dubai than elsewhere because school events, travel and Ramadan all move plans. Third, what happens if the match is wrong: whether there is a replacement policy, and whether unused sessions in a package are refundable or transferable.

On VAT, this page takes the careful position. UAE VAT treatment of tuition is not something to assert without a Federal Tax Authority citation, and this page offers none. What a parent can reasonably do is ask any provider directly whether their quoted dirham figure is inclusive or exclusive, and ask for a tax registration number if one is claimed. A provider who cannot answer that question clearly has told you something useful about their invoicing generally.

Which five subjects your spending should protect

If the household has a finite tutoring budget, the subjects to protect are the ones that carry forward. For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. That is the sourced requirement. One UAE tutoring site ranking for these searches states six subjects are required; publishing the correct five is both more accurate and more useful.

There is a second layer. The British track also requires proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. On the American track, English proficiency is shown by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. For the IB, no points threshold has been read on an official source, so none is published here.

None of this makes tutoring necessary for equivalency, and it would be a false urgency claim to suggest otherwise. What it does is tell a family which grades are load-bearing. A student comfortably above the threshold in five subjects has already secured that requirement, and spend is better directed at the subjects their intended degree needs. A student at risk of dropping below it in a sixth subject has a clearer priority. Equivalency itself is a process the Ministry administers; IB Gram does not perform it, guarantee it or submit anything on a family's behalf.

When a group or a school class is genuinely the better buy

  • Group beats one-to-one when the task is coverage, pace or confidence in speaking
  • One-to-one wins for a diagnosed, narrow, individual weakness
  • School clinics and extra marked papers are free and under-used
  • Ask the school first; it often identifies a missed topic at no cost

One-to-one is not always the right purchase, and a page that never says so is selling rather than advising. There are three situations in which a group is better value and one in which it is better outright. Better value: when the content is new to everyone and the task is coverage rather than diagnosis; when the student is motivated and the constraint is pace rather than understanding; and when the budget simply does not stretch to enough one-to-one hours to be useful, where a well-run group beats two isolated private sessions.

Better outright: when the student's problem is confidence in speaking up, and watching peers ask the question they were afraid to ask does something a private session cannot. That is a real effect and it is worth knowing before spending on individual hours. The counter-case is equally clear. A diagnosed, narrow, individual problem is exactly what a group cannot address, because the group runs at the group's pace and your child's two topics are not the group's two topics.

The free option is also real and routinely ignored. Most Dubai schools run subject support sessions, revision clubs or clinics, and many teachers will mark an extra past paper if asked directly. That costs nothing, uses the teacher who knows the entry, the tier and the board, and should be exhausted before any invoice is signed. Families who approach the school first often discover the problem was a missed topic during an absence, which the school fixes free. IB Gram delivers one-to-one online only, so this recommendation costs us a sale and is still the right first step.

07

Budget the resit before results day, not after it

  • November is the resit route for UAE candidates after a June series
  • Pearson June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026
  • A resit block is roughly eight to ten weeks and must be narrow to work
  • Confirm the entry route and the centre's Cambridge zone with the exams officer

The November series exists and almost nobody plans for it. Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. For a UAE candidate, November is the resit route after June. The financially sensible move is to decide in advance what you would do if a grade comes back below what a sixth-form place requires, because the decision window after results day is short and the tutoring market tightens quickly.

Timing makes this concrete. June results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026 for Pearson, with November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. A June result arriving in late August gives roughly eight to ten weeks before a November window that runs through to mid-November. That is enough time for a focused block and not enough time for a rebuild, which means the resit plan has to be narrow: one or two subjects, specific papers, past papers from the first session.

The honest financial framing is that a resit block is a concentrated purchase at specialist rates, and it is one of the few cases where premium pricing is justified by the calendar rather than by the content. Set aside the possibility of it when you plan the year's spend, rather than discovering it as an unbudgeted emergency in late August. And confirm the entry route with the school's exams officer, including the centre's zone, since Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable.

08

Checking a tutor is permitted, before money changes hands

  • The MoHRE private tutor permit is free and valid for two years
  • No published fine schedule exists, so no amount should be quoted to you
  • Do not engage your child's own class teacher as a paid private tutor
  • A centre with premises needs a KHDA permit, which is not a tutor credential

Cost and legitimacy are the same conversation, because an unpermitted tutor is one who can disappear mid-block. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone quoting a permit fee is describing something that does not exist. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so this page quotes no amount and you should treat any specific figure you see online as unverified. The official route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is different again and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute.

One more boundary, which is free to observe and expensive to breach. Do not arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately for payment. The MoHRE permit code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school. For completeness and because several competing pages blur this: IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, and operates no office or centre in the UAE.

Where we tutor

LA Mer and the communities that share its school run

Lessons are delivered online, so the notes below bear on timing, catchment and what families in each pocket actually buy, rather than on whether a tutor can reach the address.

LA Mer

Beachfront apartments and townhouses on Jumeirah 1 behind the retail promenade. Short school runs inland, but the Jumeirah Road between 5pm and 7pm is the reason an online 4:30pm slot is cheaper and easier than a 6pm visit that includes someone else's drive.

Jumeirah 1

Villa streets behind the beach feeding Jumeirah College, Latifa School for Girls and Horizon English School. Households here often buy two subjects for one child rather than one subject for two, which changes the arithmetic on any package price.

Jumeirah 2

Continuing south-west along the coast, with heavy British-curriculum enrolment and consistent Year 10 and 11 demand in maths and the separate sciences. The common spend pattern is a mid-band tutor for maths and a specialist for one science.

Jumeirah 3

The furthest of the three Jumeirah numbers from LA Mer, running towards Umm Suqeim. Longer commutes mean later session starts, which historically pushed families here towards online delivery before the rest of the coast.

Al Safa

Safa British School and GEMS Wellington Primary School sit here, and this is the school calendar that actually governs a LA Mer tutoring plan. Pause sessions for the school's own assessment weeks rather than paying for hours a student cannot use.

Al Wasl

Immediately inland across the Jumeirah Road, holding Horizon International School Al Wasl. Early-to-mid afternoon pickup makes a 4pm session genuinely available, which is the single largest practical saving online delivery offers this neighbourhood.

City Walk

Apartment living minutes from LA Mer. Compact homes mean a visiting tutor works at the dining table with the household around them; the quiet-room advantage of a laptop session is the reason parents here cite for switching.

Pearl Jumeira

The causeway island off the Al Wasl shore, newer and lower density. More Lower Secondary demand than exam-year demand, which means more families here are correctly served by the cheaper tiers than anywhere else on this coast.

The British-curriculum schools most LA Mer secondary students attend. Ask each school which board and syllabus code it enters per subject, because it is frequently not the same board across all subjects, and booking a tutor for the wrong one wastes every hour bought.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • Horizon International School Al Wasl
  • Safa British School
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • JESS Jumeirah

IB and alternative routes in the same catchment

Listed because LA Mer families regularly weigh an IGCSE route against an IB continuum one, and because a household often holds children in both. Two online slots on one evening is the practical answer to that; one visiting tutor is not.

  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Horizon English School
  • GEMS Wellington Primary School

Schools are named as neighbourhood educational context only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board, code and tier from the school

In writing, per subject, because schools mix boards across subjects. Cambridge 0580 Extended is a different booking from Pearson 4MA1, and a tutor working from the wrong board's papers teaches competently towards the wrong examination. This one email protects the entire budget.

  2. 02

Find a marked paper and name the problem

A recent assessment with a mark on it tells a tutor whether the issue is content, method, timing or question interpretation. Those four need four different plans at four different costs. Without it, your first two paid sessions are diagnosis at full rate.

  3. 03

Pick the tier to match the task, then ask the rate

Supervision needs the budget tier. Broad content catch-up needs the middle. A diagnosed narrow weakness is cheapest with the most expensive tutor, because it needs fewest hours. Choosing the rate before the task is how families buy the wrong three thousand dirhams.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson and settle the invoice terms

One lesson per family, before any payment. In the same conversation, settle whether the rate is per hour or per session, the cancellation notice, any minimum commitment, and what happens if the match is wrong. All four belong in writing before session two.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions against the named problem

Not against a feeling about how it is going. Either the specific weakness has moved or it has not, and if it has not, change the tutor or the plan. Families who never set a review point are the families still paying in May for a match that was wrong in October.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Hours are quoted, not just rates

This page gives realistic hour counts per IGCSE subject so you can calculate a total rather than guess from an hourly band. Hours vary roughly three-fold by subject and starting point, while rates vary much less, which makes the hour count the number that decides the bill.

The travel premium is removed rather than absorbed

Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to AED 500 including travel against AED 150 to AED 300 online for comparable tutors. Online delivery takes the Jumeirah Road out of the invoice. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE; that is an India-only service, stated plainly.

Board and tier are confirmed before teaching starts

A tutor is matched to Cambridge 0620 Extended or Pearson 4MA1, not to IGCSE science or maths. Getting that wrong is the single most complete way to waste a tutoring budget, and it happens because nobody asked the school which board each subject is entered with.

Market figures are attributed and dated

Every AED band here is credited to the provider or rate table that published it, read in October 2026. We publish no satisfaction percentage, no average grade and no star rating, because we cannot produce the underlying data for any of them and neither can the pages that do.

Cheaper options are named, including free ones

Group teaching beats one-to-one for coverage, pace and confidence, and most Dubai schools run free subject clinics that should be exhausted first. Saying so costs us sessions and is still the right advice, which is the test of whether a page is advising or selling.

Availability is disclosed, not implied

When no specialist is free for a subject at your hour, we say so and give a realistic match time rather than putting a generalist in the slot. No competitor page in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, which is precisely why discovering one in March is a common experience.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in LA Mer: your questions answered

What does an IGCSE tutor near me in LA Mer work out to across a whole year?+

Multiply hours by rate rather than reading a rate alone. A Year 11 subject with two misfiring topics needs about twelve hours, which at specialist rates of around AED 280 is near AED 3,400. A Year 10 subject with broad gaps needs nearer thirty hours, which at mid-band rates around AED 180 is about AED 5,400. Published Dubai bands run AED 33 to 65 at the budget end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor and AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists, from sources read in October 2026.

Is the cheapest tutoring tier in Dubai ever the right choice?+

Yes, for a specific job. Published rates from AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik suit a Year 7 to 9 student who needs structure and company while working, where the task is habit rather than examination technique. Forty hours at that level costs a fraction of the same hours with a specialist and does the same job. It is the wrong choice for a Year 11 Extended candidate, because examination technique requires someone who has worked the mark scheme.

How do I find out which board my child's school enters each subject with?+

Ask the school directly and get it in writing per subject, because Dubai schools commonly mix boards. A school may use Cambridge for sciences and Pearson Edexcel for mathematics, or the reverse. You want the awarding body and the syllabus code for each subject, such as 0620 or 4MA1, plus the tier where the subject is tiered. Give that list to any tutor before the trial lesson and ask which board's past papers they will use. Mismatched board material is the most complete way to waste a tutoring budget.

Does the Core tier cap the grade my child can get?+

Yes, in tiered Cambridge subjects. On the 0580 Mathematics structure, Core reaches a middle grade while Extended reaches the top grades. So paying specialist rates to chase a high grade while a child is entered for Core buys something the specification does not offer. Ask the school which tier each tiered subject is entered for and when that entry is confirmed, because there is a window before the deadline in which the tier can change and a period afterwards in which it cannot.

Which five subjects should we prioritise if the budget is limited?+

The ones carrying your child above the equivalency threshold and towards their intended degree. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five. A student comfortably clear in five has secured that requirement, so spend belongs on subjects their degree needs. Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutoring provider performs or guarantees it, and tutoring is not required for it.

What extras should I check before agreeing an hourly rate?+

Six things, all settled in writing. Whether the rate is per hour or per session, since a ninety-minute session priced per session is a different unit. The cancellation notice that avoids a charge. Any minimum package or session commitment. Whether materials or a registration fee are added. What happens if the match is wrong, including unused sessions. And whether the quoted dirham figure includes VAT, which you should ask the provider directly rather than read from a tutoring page.

Would a small group be cheaper and just as good for my child?+

Sometimes genuinely better, not just cheaper. A group suits new content where the task is coverage, a motivated student whose constraint is pace, and a child whose real problem is not speaking up, because watching peers ask the awkward question does something private sessions cannot. A group cannot address a diagnosed narrow weakness, since it runs at the group's pace and your child's two topics are not the group's. IB Gram delivers one-to-one online only, so this is advice against our own sale.

Should we budget for a November resit before results arrive?+

Yes, because the window afterwards is short. Cambridge runs June and November series and Pearson runs May/June and November, so November is the UAE resit route. Pearson's June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026, leaving roughly eight to ten weeks before a November window running to mid-November. That is enough for a narrow block on one or two subjects at specialist rates, and not enough for a rebuild. Deciding in advance what you would do turns an emergency into a plan.

Why is a specialist sometimes cheaper in total than a generalist?+

Because they need fewer hours for a diagnosed problem. Twelve hours at AED 280 is about AED 3,360 and closes two named topics. Thirty-six weekly hours at AED 180 is about AED 6,480, covers the whole syllabus again, and may never reach those two topics at all. The lower hourly rate produced the larger bill and the smaller result. This inversion only applies where the problem is narrow and identified, which is why diagnosis from a marked paper comes before any purchase.

Can we use the school's own support instead of paying for a tutor?+

Start there. Most Dubai schools run subject clinics, revision sessions or support groups, and many teachers will mark an additional past paper if asked directly. That costs nothing and uses someone who knows the entry, the board and the tier. Families who ask the school first frequently find the problem was a topic missed during an absence, which the school closes for free. Exhaust that before signing anything. We deliver one-to-one online tuition and still think this is the correct first step.

How many hours does IGCSE Chemistry usually take to fix?+

Between ten and eighteen across a year for a typical Cambridge 0620 Extended student, weighted heavily towards the quantitative work. Moles arithmetic runs through most of the course, so a Year 10 weakness there is still costing marks in Year 11 organic questions and has to be closed first. Qualitative analysis is pure recall and the cheapest set of marks on the paper to recover, usually two sessions. A tutor who starts with new content rather than with the arithmetic will take considerably longer and cost more.

Does IB Gram send someone to a LA Mer address?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video to families across the UAE and does not make home visits anywhere in the Emirates; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. We target the near me search because it is the phrase parents type, and the honest answer is that removing the drive removes both the travel premium from the rate and the twenty-minute radius from your shortlist. Sessions run in Gulf Standard Time with a shared whiteboard and an optional recording.

Is there a fee for the tutor's UAE permit that we end up paying?+

No. The MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and the MoHRE service page lists no fee with a two-working-day completion time. Anyone adding a permit cost to your quote is charging for something that does not exist. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific dirham figure you read online as unverified.

When in the year is tutoring money best spent?+

Earlier than most families spend it. Hours bought in Year 10 while content is being taught for the first time cost mid-band rates and prevent the relearning that makes Year 11 expensive. Hours bought in the eight weeks before a series cost specialist rates and can only reorganise what is already there. The single best-value block available is the summer between the two IGCSE years, on the one subject that went badly, because nothing else is competing for the student's time.

What review point should we set so we do not overspend?+

Six sessions, measured against a named weakness rather than against a general impression. Six is enough to see whether a specific topic or technique has moved and not enough to have committed a term's budget. Signs of a weak match are concrete: the tutor talks more than the student, sessions cover ground without ending in anything specific, or the board and tier never came up. Changing tutor at session six is inexpensive. Discovering the mismatch in May costs the examined year.

The three emails to send before you spend anything

One to the school asking for the awarding body, syllabus code and tier for each subject, in writing. One to yourself, finding the most recent marked paper and naming what the marks are actually being lost on. One to any tutor you are considering, asking which board's papers they will use, whether the rate is per hour or per session, and what the cancellation notice is. Those three exchanges cost nothing and decide whether the money you spend on an IGCSE tutor near LA Mer buys a grade or buys hours. Then take the free trial lesson, one per family, before any payment.
