IB Tutor near me in LA Mer

When a parent types IB tutor near me in LA Mer, the question underneath it is narrower than the search: is there anyone within reach of this stretch of Jumeirah 1 who actually knows the Diploma my child is sitting? This page answers that honestly, subject by subject, and explains why IB Gram teaches LA Mer students one-to-one over live video instead of pretending the answer is always yes.

  • An honest answer per subject, not a claim that every specialist lives nearby
  • Lessons are live online and one-to-one; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits
  • Internal Assessment criteria named by letter, as the subject guide sets them out
  • If no specialist is free at your hour we say so and give a match time

IB & IGCSE in LA Mer

What a near me search for an IB tutor actually turns up on this coast

Type IB tutor near me in LA Mer and the results are mostly agencies with a Dubai landing page, a lead form, and no statement of who teaches what. Several route the enquiry to a phone number outside the UAE. None of the six competitor pages examined in October 2026 names a single Diploma subject specialism against a named tutor, and one of the better-ranking pages names no Dubai neighbourhood at all. So the honest starting point is that the search does not answer the question you are asking. It answers a different question, which is who has bought the phrase.

The question you are asking is about supply. The Diploma is six subjects plus Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service, and the subjects split further into Higher and Standard Level with different papers and different internal assessments. That means a LA Mer parent is not looking for an IB tutor. They are looking for, say, a Physics HL tutor who has supervised the Group 4 scientific investigation, or a Maths Analysis and Approaches SL tutor who can tell a student why their exploration will not score above the middle band on Criterion B. Those are small populations.

Now put a geographic filter on top. LA Mer sits on reclaimed beachfront off Jumeirah 1, reached from the Jumeirah Road, with evening parking that fills. A tutor who must physically be in your living room at 6pm has to live and drive within roughly twenty minutes of that, at the hour the Jumeirah Road is at its slowest. Multiply a small population of genuine subject specialists by a twenty-minute radius at rush hour and the number you are left with, for most Diploma subjects, is zero or one. That is the real answer to near me, and no agency wants to give it.

So the alternative is to drop the radius rather than drop the specialism. IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. What that buys a LA Mer family is a shortlist defined by the syllabus instead of by the drive. The Chemistry HL specialist who has read a hundred Group 4 investigations does not have to live in Jumeirah to teach your child.

The rest of this page is the detail that makes that claim checkable: which Diploma subjects have genuinely thin local supply and which do not, what an IB tutor has to know that a general subject tutor does not, the internal assessment criteria by letter, the Higher and Standard Level weightings that change how many hours a subject needs, the schools on this coast that run the Diploma, what happens during Ramadan, and the point at which a tutor must stop and the student must write.

At a glance

  • Six subjects plus three core components means a Diploma student needs subject specialists, not an IB generalist
  • A visiting tutor's catchment for a 6pm Jumeirah 1 session is about twenty minutes wide
  • Two IB continuum schools sit inside the LA Mer school catchment
  • Internal assessments are marked against named criteria; a tutor who cannot name them is guessing
  • IB Gram delivers online one-to-one across the UAE, with no home visits
  • Where supply is genuinely short, this page says so rather than implying coverage
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

LA Mer families meet the IB at three different points, and the tutoring question is different at each. These are the stages, with what the programme actually demands of a student in this part of Dubai.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internal assessment marked against named criteria and moderated externally. The load is not the difficulty; the simultaneity is. A student handles four internal deadlines, an Extended Essay and a TOK essay in the same twelve months.

No IB points threshold for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency has been read on an official source, so none is published here. A LA Mer family should put that question to the school's IB coordinator and to the Ministry directly. Any tutoring site quoting you a specific IB equivalency score without a moe.gov.ae citation is guessing on your behalf.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years of criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups, ending for many students in the personal project. MYP marks are reported on a one-to-eight scale per criterion rather than as percentages, which is the first thing parents transferring from a British school find disorienting. Nothing about MYP grading predicts a Diploma grade directly.

In Dubai, MYP students at Jumeira Baccalaureate School and Emirates International School Jumeirah also carry KHDA's mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies requirements alongside the programme, which is time on the timetable that a British-curriculum family new to the system does not expect.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary and inquiry-led, with no external examinations. Tutoring at this stage is rarely about a grade and usually about a specific gap, most often in number fluency or in writing at length. Short, frequent sessions work; exam-style drilling does not, because there is no exam to drill for.

Families arriving on the Jumeirah coast mid-year from another system often land in PYP with a mismatch in arithmetic method rather than ability. Closing that in Year 5 is cheap and quick; discovering it in MYP 3 is neither.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme

A smaller IB route combining Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. Offered at far fewer UAE schools than the Diploma, so a LA Mer student on this route is almost certainly looking outside the immediate neighbourhood for subject support, which makes the radius argument on this page even sharper.

Because CP enrolment in Dubai is small, local specialist supply is thin in the literal sense: there may be no nearby tutor who has worked the reflective project at all. This is one of the clearest cases where online access to a wider pool is not a convenience but the only route.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Supply is not uniform. Below are the Diploma subjects LA Mer families ask for, what each one actually assesses, and where a general subject tutor stops being enough.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic and proof-heavy, with calculus carrying the HL paper weight. The exploration is marked against named criteria, and most mid-band explorations fail on mathematical communication rather than on mathematics. A tutor who has not read a marked exploration cannot diagnose that, which is why AA is the subject where generalist help disappoints fastest.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics led, with technology assumed throughout. Students who choose AI expecting an easier route often meet statistical inference and find it unfamiliar rather than easy. Course choice between AA and AI is a university-prerequisite decision as much as an ability one, and worth settling before Year 12 begins.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields dominate the mark allocation, and the scientific investigation is where HL candidates lose ground they cannot recover in papers. Uncertainty treatment is the single most common weakness in Dubai school cohorts, and it is teachable in a handful of sessions if someone names it early.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the HL difficulty. Students arrive from IGCSE comfortable with moles and unprepared for the quantitative reasoning the Diploma expects. The investigation rewards a tightly controlled research question, and a broad one is the most common reason a capable student scores in the middle.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume plus command terms. A student who writes everything true about a process scores below one who answers the verb. Statistical handling in the investigation surprises Biology candidates more than it surprises Physics candidates, because less of the course prepares them for it.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation carry the marks, and the internal assessment commentaries must each link to a specific article and a specific part of the syllabus. Students lose marks by choosing an article that is interesting rather than one that is analysable, which is a decision a tutor can improve in one session.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Textual analysis across literary and non-literary forms, with an individual oral and a written assessment. The oral is the component students most underestimate, because it is assessed on a line of argument held across ten minutes rather than on fluency. Rehearsal with feedback is the intervention that works.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven with a substantial internally assessed project. Strong students often produce description where evaluation is required and discover it only when a mark comes back. Teaching the command structure of an evaluative paragraph is worth more here than any amount of content revision.

Arabic

Ab Initio, B and A

Offered at several levels, and the route a student takes changes the assessment entirely. In Dubai this interacts with KHDA's mandatory Arabic requirement, which runs alongside the licensed curriculum regardless of what the school teaches internationally. Short frequent sessions outperform long weekly ones in every level of this subject.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

An exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title, both assessed on the quality of the knowledge argument rather than on subject content. Students who treat TOK as an opinion piece score poorly. A tutor coaches the argument structure and reads drafts; the writing itself has to be the student's own work, without exception.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support that work for a Diploma student on this coast, all delivered live online and one-to-one. The shape matters more than the hours, because the Diploma fails students on scheduling more often than on ability.

One subject, one specialist, every week

The default for a Diploma student with a single weak subject. The same tutor each week through the two-year course, following the school's scheme of work rather than a parallel syllabus, and stepping into internal assessment coaching when the deadline approaches. Continuity is the value: nothing is re-explained and no diagnosis is repeated.

  • Ninety minutes suits HL; sixty is usually enough at SL
  • Scheduled around the school's own assessment weeks
  • Session notes naming what was not finished
  • The same tutor from Year 12 to the final papers

Two subjects, two specialists, same evening

Common from LA Mer, and effectively impossible with a visiting tutor. Two back-to-back one-to-one sessions with two different subject specialists, which is the honest alternative to asking one nearby person to cover both Chemistry HL and Maths Analysis and Approaches. Nobody does both well; the search result implies otherwise.

  • Back-to-back slots on one evening, two specialists
  • No travel gap between them to schedule around
  • Each tutor sees only their own subject's internal assessment
  • Reviewed separately, so a weak match in one does not disturb the other

Core support: Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

Process coaching on the two components that sit outside any subject teacher's remit. Research question framing, source evaluation, argument structure, and the discipline of meeting the school's internal interim deadlines. The writing is the student's, in full, and a tutor who offers otherwise is offering a malpractice finding.

  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable
  • Drafts read and criticised against the criteria
  • Interim deadlines mapped backwards from the school's dates
  • No drafting, rewriting or editing to completion by the tutor

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in LA Mer

These tutors teach named Diploma subjects at Higher or Standard Level rather than the IB in general. That distinction is the whole point of the page: a Chemistry HL specialist and a Maths Analysis and Approaches specialist are not interchangeable, and a parent searching near me is usually being offered someone who is.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in LA Mer

01

The radius problem, said out loud

A visiting tutor serving a 6pm appointment in LA Mer leaves their own area around 5:10pm and gets home around 8:10pm. That is three hours of an evening for one teaching hour, which caps the number of families any one tutor can serve and forces them to work a tight geographic patch. The practical effect is that your shortlist is not drawn from everyone who teaches Diploma Chemistry in Dubai. It is drawn from everyone who teaches Diploma Chemistry, is free on a Tuesday, and lives close enough to Jumeirah 1 to make the trip pay.

For a handful of subjects that is still a reasonable pool. Maths at Standard Level, English A, Business Management and Economics are taught widely enough across Dubai that a nearby competent tutor genuinely exists. For others the pool thins sharply: Physics HL, Chemistry HL with investigation experience, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL, Arabic A, and any of the less common Group 6 or Group 3 options. For Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, the number of people within twenty minutes who have actually supervised either is very small.

The table below is the version of this answer nobody publishes. It is a disclosure rather than a sales pitch, and the final column is the part that matters: what we do when a UAE-based specialist is not free at the hour a LA Mer family wants. No competitor page in the researched set discloses a coverage limit at all, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number. We would rather name the limit and give you a realistic match time.

02

What an IB tutor has to know that a subject tutor does not

A competent A Level chemist is not automatically a competent Diploma chemistry tutor, and the difference is not content. It is three things. First, the internal assessment, which is marked against named criteria and moderated, and which a tutor must be able to read like a marker rather than like a teacher. Second, the command terms, which the IB uses with a precision that changes what a correct answer looks like. Third, the core, because a Diploma student's time is being eaten by the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge whether or not your subject tutor acknowledges it.

The command terms are the fastest diagnostic a parent can apply. Ask a prospective tutor to explain the difference between outline, describe, explain and evaluate as the IB uses them, and what each is worth in practice on a Paper 2 question. A tutor who answers crisply has marked work. A tutor who treats them as synonyms for write about it will teach your child a great deal of chemistry and leave their marks where they are, which is the most frustrating outcome a family can pay for.

The second diagnostic is the internal assessment criteria. Every Diploma internal assessment is assessed against criteria labelled by letter, each with its own mark band and its own descriptors, and the mark is not a global impression. A student can know the subject thoroughly and still score in the middle because one criterion was never addressed. The table below sets out the shape of this; mark allocations and criterion sets are revised by cohort, so confirm the current version against your child's subject guide and their school's IB coordinator rather than against any tutoring page.

HOW AN INTERNAL ASSESSMENT IS MARKED, BY CRITERION LETTER
CriterionWhat it rewardsCommon reason marks are lostWhat a tutor can legitimately do
AFraming and presentation of the taskA research question too broad to answer in the word countChallenge the question until it is answerable
BCommunication in the subject's own conventionsCorrect work presented in a form a marker cannot followTeach the conventions and critique a draft
CPersonal engagement or data handling, by subjectEngagement asserted rather than visible in the workExplain what visible engagement looks like

EUse of subject knowledge and methodTechnique beyond the syllabus used incorrectlyKeep the student inside what they can justify

03

Higher Level against Standard Level, and what it does to the hours

Parents often ask how many sessions a Diploma subject needs, and the answer is set mostly by level rather than by subject. Higher Level adds content, adds a paper in most subjects, and raises the analytical demand on the internal assessment. A Standard Level subject that is going adequately usually needs one weekly hour and a block before the papers. A Higher Level subject that is going badly can absorb ninety minutes a week for two years and still want more in the final term.

The second thing level determines is the ceiling on usefulness. There is a point past which more tutoring in a Higher Level subject stops helping, because the binding constraint has become the student's available hours rather than their understanding. A Diploma candidate carrying three Higher Levels, an Extended Essay and a TOK essay has a finite week. A family buying four sessions a week across three subjects is often buying the thing that makes the other two worse.

Use the table to decide where hours go, not to decide whether to buy them. The right question is which single component, in which single subject, is currently losing the most marks for the least effort to fix. That is usually one of three things: an internal assessment criterion never addressed, a command term misread consistently, or a topic taught while the student was absent. All three are cheap to fix and none of them needs a two-year commitment.

LEVEL, LOAD AND WHERE TUTORING HOURS EARN THEIR KEEP
Compare acrossStandard LevelHigher LevelWhat it means for tutoring

04

The core: Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and where a tutor stops

  • Legitimate: narrowing the research question, source evaluation, draft feedback, deadline planning
  • Not legitimate: writing, rewriting, editing to completion, or supplying text
  • Official papers and mark schemes are linked, never supplied as downloads
  • Say the boundary to your child explicitly before the first core session

The Extended Essay and the TOK essay are the two components where the near me search becomes actively dangerous, because the same search returns sites that will write them. One page competing in this cluster sells completed Internal Assessments outright. A family under deadline pressure in February of Year 13 is exactly the family that gets tempted, and the consequence of a malpractice finding lands on the student's Diploma, not on the vendor.

What legitimate support looks like is concrete and genuinely valuable. On the Extended Essay, a tutor helps narrow a research question until it can be answered within the word limit, evaluates whether the chosen sources will sustain an argument, reads a draft the student has written and says where the reasoning breaks, and maps the school's interim deadlines backwards so the essay is not written in one weekend. On Theory of Knowledge, a tutor coaches the structure of a knowledge argument and the use of real examples, and reads drafts critically.

What is not permitted is writing, rewriting, editing to a standard, or supplying text that ends up in the submission. IB Gram tutors teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work; they do not produce coursework. We also do not reproduce or supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables, because those belong to the IB and reproducing them is both a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. We reference and link the official source instead. Word limits and component requirements are revised by cohort, so confirm the current ones with your child's coordinator.

05

Who regulates the school, and why a LA Mer parent should care

A Diploma student's tutoring plan is governed by their school's calendar and internal deadlines, and the school is governed by an emirate regulator. In Dubai that is KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. For a LA Mer family that is the only regulator that applies, but families move within the UAE often enough that the full map is worth having, and ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages researched.

The regulator does more than inspect. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not merely quality assurance sits at emirate level. The federal baseline is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations, which is the rule underneath every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

One thing a regulator does not do is endorse tutors. There is no such thing as a KHDA-approved private tutor, and any tutoring service implying that status is misrepresenting it. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises, involving initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, and operates no office or centre in the UAE.

Ramadan, the UAE calendar, and when Diploma work actually happens

  • Ramadan dates move each year; a tutoring plan should assume disruption rather than a fixed date
  • Post-Iftar sessions are straightforward online and difficult with a visiting tutor
  • Shorter and more frequent beats long and weekly during the month
  • A summer block between Year 12 and Year 13 is the cheapest grade movement on offer

A tutoring plan written without the UAE calendar in it will fall apart twice a year. Ramadan shortens the school day across the Emirates, shifts family routines towards the evening, and lands in the academic year at a point that moves, because it follows the lunar calendar. For a Year 13 Diploma student that can coincide with the final run into examinations or with the last internal assessment deadlines, and the difference between a plan that accounts for it and one that does not is substantial.

What works in practice is moving sessions rather than cancelling them. Post-Iftar slots are productive for many families, and a student who would be unfocused at 5pm during Ramadan is often sharp at 9pm. Online delivery makes that trivially schedulable, which is a genuine practical advantage over a visiting tutor whose own evening is already committed. Shorter, more frequent sessions also work better than long ones during the month.

The second calendar feature is the gap between school terms and examination series. The school year in Dubai does not end when the Diploma examinations end, and the summer break is long. For a student moving into Year 13, a short block of sessions in the summer on the one subject that went badly is the highest-value tutoring available all year, because it is the only time the student is not simultaneously handling four other deadlines. Families who use the summer this way rarely need the panic block in spring.

07

How to test whether a tutor really knows the Diploma

  • Ask the tutor to name the internal assessment criteria by letter
  • Ask what they will not do on assessed work, and expect a fast, specific answer
  • Give them the school's interim deadlines, not just the IB's session
  • In the trial, watch who is talking and writing

Four questions, asked before you pay anything, will separate a Diploma specialist from a competent subject teacher. First: which level and which paper is my child weakest on, and how would you know? A specialist asks to see a marked paper rather than answering. Second: name the internal assessment criteria for this subject and tell me which one my child is likely losing marks on. A specialist names letters and descriptors. A generalist describes the project.

Third: what will you not do on the internal assessment? The right answer is immediate and specific, covering writing, rewriting and editing to completion, and it should come without hesitation. A tutor who is vague here is a tutor who has been vague with other families. Fourth: what is my child's school's interim deadline for this component, and how does your plan sit against it? A specialist wants the school's dates, because the school's dates are the real constraint, not the IB's.

Then take the free trial lesson, which is one lesson per family and happens before any payment is taken. Watch for whether your child does most of the talking and writing, and whether the session ends with something specific that was not true at the start. A session that felt good and covered a lot of ground is usually a session where the tutor did the thinking. The point of the trial is to watch teaching, not to be persuaded. If the tutor spends the trial describing their experience rather than teaching a topic, that is the answer to whether they know the Diploma, and the answer is no.

08

What online one-to-one actually looks like for a Diploma student

  • Shared whiteboard, screen sharing and an optional session recording
  • Sessions can begin at 4:30pm rather than 6pm
  • Two specialists back to back on one evening is straightforward
  • If the real problem is not starting work, we will say that rather than sell hours

The scepticism parents bring to this is reasonable, and it is usually about writing. A Diploma session involves derivations, diagrams, mechanisms and annotated graphs, and a conversation over video with nothing shared is useless for all of them. What makes it work is a shared whiteboard both people write on, screen sharing for the student's own draft or marked paper, and a session recording the student can go back to, which is something no home visit provides.

The practical gains for a LA Mer family are scheduling and continuity. A session can start at 4:30pm straight after the Al Wasl or Al Safa school run instead of waiting for a tutor to cross Dubai at 6pm. A missed session can be rescheduled inside the same week rather than fitted into someone's driving route. Two subject specialists can take back-to-back slots on one evening. And when a family travels, which families on this coast do, the schedule travels with them.

The thing it does not do is supervise. A visiting tutor is a physical presence that makes a teenager sit down, and for a student whose problem is genuinely that they do not start work, online one-to-one is not the fix and we will say so. That is an organisation problem, and the honest intervention is a structure the family enforces, not an hour bought weekly. Tutoring works on understanding and technique. It does not work as a substitute for a schedule.

Where we tutor

The coast this page is written for

Because lessons run over video, the geography below matters for school catchment, session timing and which schools run the Diploma, rather than for whether a tutor can reach you.

LA Mer

Beachfront apartments and townhouses on Jumeirah 1 behind the retail strip. Two IB continuum schools sit within a short drive, which is why Diploma enquiries from this specific address skew towards Group 4 sciences and Maths Analysis and Approaches rather than general support.

Jumeirah 1

The villa streets inland from the beach, feeding both British-curriculum and IB schools. Diploma families here commonly need two different subject specialists at once, which is the point at which a single local tutor stops being a workable answer.

Al Wasl

Immediately inland across the Jumeirah Road, holding Horizon International School Al Wasl. Pickup here ends mid-afternoon, so a Diploma student can realistically take a 4:30pm session and still have an evening for internal assessment work.

Al Safa

Home to Safa British School and GEMS Wellington Primary School, and the route most LA Mer families drive twice a day. The Al Safa school calendar, not the LA Mer postcode, is what governs when a tutoring plan has to pause for school assessments.

Pearl Jumeira

The causeway island off the Al Wasl shoreline. Younger average household age means more MYP than Diploma demand, and MYP families here usually want criterion-referenced feedback explained before they want subject teaching.

City Walk

Apartments a few minutes from LA Mer across Al Wasl. Compact homes are a practical argument for online sessions: a Diploma student needs a door that closes for ninety minutes, which is easier to arrange than a spare room for a visitor.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Along the coast towards Al Sufouh, feeding Raffles World Academy and the Al Barsha cluster. Longer afternoon commutes push Diploma sessions to 6:30pm or 7pm, which in turn rules out most visiting tutors who have already routed their evening.

Palm Jumeirah

Across the water with a similar mix of British and IB enrolment. The trunk-road commute is the reason online scheduling became normal here earlier than elsewhere on the coast, and Diploma families report it as the main reason they stopped booking visits.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, the level and the component

Chemistry HL with a weak investigation is a different request from Chemistry SL with a Paper 1 timing problem. Naming the component lets us check honestly whether a specialist is free at your hour before anyone commits an evening, and it is the information most enquiry forms never ask for.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper and the school's deadline dates

One recent assessment with a mark, plus whatever interim deadlines the school has set for internal assessments and the Extended Essay. The school's dates are the real constraint on a Diploma plan, and a tutor working only from the examination session will plan the wrong year.

  3. 03

    Hear the honest availability answer

For a mainstream subject at Standard Level the answer is usually days. For Higher Level sciences, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or Theory of Knowledge, it may be a week or longer, and we will tell you that instead of filling the slot with whoever is free.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson per family, before any payment is taken, at a time that works after the school run. Ask the tutor the four questions on this page beforehand. The trial exists so you can watch a specialist teach your child rather than read a description of one.

  5. 05

Review at six sessions, then at the next school assessment

Six sessions shows whether a named weakness is closing. The next school assessment shows whether it closed in the place that counts. Two review points in a term is enough; families who never review are the ones still paying for a weak match in the final year.

This page states which Diploma subjects have thin specialist supply within reach of Jumeirah 1 and which do not, including a table of realistic match times. No competitor page in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, because disclosing one looks like a weakness until you have been let down by a page that did not.

Specialists by subject and level, not IB generalists

A tutor is matched to Chemistry HL or Mathematics Applications and Interpretation SL, not to the IB. Dropping the twenty-minute radius is what makes that possible, and it is the entire argument for online delivery over a visit on this particular coast.

Delivery stated without ambiguity

Lessons are live, online and one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service. No sentence on this site implies a tutor will arrive at a Jumeirah address, and no UAE office or centre exists.

Internal assessment help that cannot get a student investigated

Tutors coach the research question, teach the criteria, read drafts and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not write, rewrite or edit to completion. One site competing for this exact search sells finished Internal Assessments, which makes stating the boundary a differentiator rather than boilerplate.

No unverifiable claims about tutors or outcomes

We publish no star rating, no satisfaction percentage, no average Diploma score and no grade guarantee, because we cannot produce the data behind any of them. We also do not describe a tutor as an IB examiner unless that status can be evidenced, which several pages in this cluster do freely.

Built around the school's calendar, not a generic one

Plans are set against your child's school interim deadlines and the Dubai academic year, including Ramadan, rather than against an examination date alone. For a Diploma student juggling four internal assessments, the deadline map is worth more than extra content hours.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in LA Mer: your questions answered

Is there really an IB tutor near me in LA Mer who knows my child's exact subject?+

For Mathematics at Standard Level, English A, Economics or Business Management, probably yes. For Physics HL, Chemistry HL with investigation experience, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Arabic A or Theory of Knowledge, the pool within a drivable radius of Jumeirah 1 at 6pm is very small and sometimes empty. That is the honest answer, and it is why IB Gram teaches LA Mer students over live video instead. Dropping the radius keeps the specialism; keeping the radius means dropping it.

Why does a tutor's travel time to Jumeirah 1 change who is available?+

Because it caps their working evening. A 6pm appointment on the LA Mer side of the Jumeirah Road means leaving home around 5:10pm and returning around 8:10pm, so one teaching hour consumes three. A tutor can realistically serve two nearby families a night, which forces them to work a tight patch of Dubai. Your shortlist therefore becomes whoever teaches the subject, is free that day, and lives close enough for the trip to pay. That is a much smaller list than the list of people who teach the subject well.

What should I ask a prospective Diploma tutor before paying anything?+

Four things. Ask them to name the internal assessment criteria for the subject by letter and say which one your child is probably losing marks on. Ask them to distinguish outline, describe, explain and evaluate as the IB uses them. Ask what they will not do on assessed work, and expect an immediate, specific answer. And give them your school's interim deadline dates and ask how their plan fits. A specialist answers all four crisply; a competent subject teacher without IB marking experience will not.

Can one tutor cover both Chemistry HL and Maths AA for the same student?+

Occasionally, and it is usually a mistake to want it. The internal assessments are marked on different criteria, the papers reward different techniques, and the person who is genuinely strong at both is rare enough that insisting on one tutor shrinks your shortlist far more than it saves you in scheduling. Online, two specialists can take back-to-back slots on the same evening with no travel gap between them, which is the arrangement most LA Mer Diploma families end up with once they stop looking for one person.

Does my child's school year group match what you call Year 12 and Year 13?+

Diploma Programme students are in the final two school years, generally ages sixteen to nineteen, which Dubai British-system schools label Years 12 and 13 and some IB schools label DP1 and DP2. The labels matter less than the position in the two-year course: whether the first internal assessments have been set, whether the Extended Essay question is fixed, and how far the school is through the syllabus. Tell us those three things and the year-group label becomes irrelevant to planning.

How does online tutoring handle derivations, diagrams and mechanisms?+

Through a shared whiteboard that both tutor and student write on, so a mechanism is drawn and annotated in front of the student rather than described. The student's own marked paper or draft is shared on screen and worked through directly. Sessions can be recorded, which a home visit never offers and which students use most before papers. This is the part parents are most sceptical about and it is also the part the free trial lesson settles fastest, usually inside the first twenty minutes.

Which IB schools near LA Mer would my child most likely attend?+

Jumeira Baccalaureate School and Emirates International School Jumeirah are the IB continuum schools closest to this stretch of the coast, with Raffles World Academy, Kings' School Al Barsha and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai drawing from further out. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places in total. These schools are named as neighbourhood context; IB Gram has no affiliation or partnership with any of them.

Can a tutor help write my child's Extended Essay if we are short of time?+

No, and nobody should. A tutor may help narrow the research question, evaluate whether the sources will sustain an argument, read a draft the student has written and say where the reasoning fails, and map the school's interim deadlines backwards. A tutor may not write, rewrite or edit to completion, or supply text that ends up in the submission. A malpractice finding falls on the student's Diploma. One site competing for this search sells completed Internal Assessments; that is the thing to walk away from.

Is a tutor allowed to be my child's own teacher from school?+

Avoid it. The MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school. The ADEK detail is press-reported, so check the current policy document before relying on exact wording. The practical rule anywhere in the UAE is not to arrange paid tutoring from your child's own class teacher.

How do sessions work around Ramadan in Dubai?+

They move rather than stop. School days shorten, routines shift later, and the month falls at a different point in the academic year each year because it follows the lunar calendar. Post-Iftar sessions work well for many families, and shorter, more frequent sessions beat long weekly ones during the month. Online scheduling makes a 9pm slot easy to arrange, which is awkward for a visiting tutor whose evening is already routed. For a Year 13 student the plan should assume disruption rather than a fixed date.

Which IB session do students in the UAE sit?+

Dubai IB schools sit the May session, with November available as an alternative route at a small number of schools worldwide. This page publishes no specific IB examination or results date, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Any site quoting you an exact IB session date should be able to cite ibo.org or your school's IB coordinator. Confirm dates there, and plan your tutoring against your school's internal deadlines, which are earlier and more binding.

Does the Ministry of Education recognise an IB Diploma for UAE university entry?+

The equivalency process exists for international certificates, but no IB points threshold has been read on an official Ministry source, so this page publishes none. For the British track the sourced requirements are five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3 with Arabic and Islamic education excluded, plus one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade. For the IB, ask your school's coordinator and the Ministry. Equivalency is not something a tutoring service performs or guarantees.

My child is in MYP now. When does Diploma tutoring become worth buying?+

The useful moment is the summer between the last MYP year and the start of the Diploma, on the one or two subjects where the student intends to take Higher Level. MYP criterion grades do not predict Diploma grades, so the handover is where gaps hide. A short block then is worth more than a year of weekly sessions in DP1, because the student is not yet carrying four internal assessments, an Extended Essay and a TOK essay in the same twelve months.

What if we try a tutor and the match is wrong?+

Say so early and change. The review point we suggest is six sessions, which is enough to see whether a named weakness is closing and not enough to have spent a term. Signs of a weak match are specific: the tutor talks more than the student, sessions cover ground without ending in anything concrete, or the internal assessment criteria never come up. Changing tutor at session six costs very little. Discovering the mismatch in the final term costs the year.

Is a nearby Higher Level specialist quoted differently from a Standard Level one?+

Pricing is set at the consultation after the free trial rather than published as a list, because it depends on subject, level and frequency. For market context, published Dubai rates put specialist IB and A Level tuition at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Unitors starting its IB tuition at AED 200, from sources read in October 2026. Those are other providers' figures, not ours. What is fixed is that the free trial lesson comes before any payment, one per family.

The honest answer to near me, and what to do with it

If your child needs Standard Level maths or English A support, a capable tutor near LA Mer probably exists and you should look for one. If they need Physics HL, Chemistry HL with investigation experience, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or Theory of Knowledge, the twenty-minute radius is the thing standing between you and a specialist. Send the subject, the level, the component and one marked paper, together with your school's interim deadlines. We will tell you whether someone is free, when, and what the wait is if they are not.
