IB Biology IA Help in the UAE

IB Biology IA help in the UAE usually comes down to one question a parent asks late in the term: how many hours does this actually need, and what does each hour buy? The investigation carries 24 marks and 20% of the final Biology grade at both Standard and Higher Level. This page publishes the AED bands the UAE market charges, maps the four criteria to the hours they really take, and states plainly what one-to-one online teaching can and cannot do with a report that has to stay the student's own work.

What Biology IA help costs in the UAE, and what sets the number

A Biology Internal Assessment is the one piece of Diploma work a parent can watch going wrong in real time. The data is collected, the school deadline is six weeks out, and the document on the screen describes a graph instead of arguing from it. That is the point at which families in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah start asking what help costs. The honest answer is that it depends on which of the four criteria has broken and how much usable work already exists. This page prices both, rather than quoting an hourly figure and leaving you to guess the total.

The investigation is marked out of 24 and is worth 20% of the final Biology grade, at Standard Level and Higher Level alike. Those 24 marks split evenly across four criteria: Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation, six marks each. A student who drops four marks on Data analysis has given away more of the final grade than a student who drops four marks spread across a whole written paper, because the IA denominator is small. That asymmetry is the entire financial argument for buying hours here rather than buying generic revision.

Rates across the UAE for IB science support run from roughly AED 150 an hour for a qualified generalist to AED 450 and above for a genuine subject specialist, with premium named tutors quoted higher still. Those are bands published by UAE providers and by Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table, not an IB Gram price list. What moves a family's total is rarely the hourly figure. It is the hour count, and the hour count is set by which criterion is failing and how late the question arrives.

IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one online tuition over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. For investigation work that is not a compromise. The session that earns its fee is the one where a spreadsheet is open, the tutor's cursor sits on the cell where a standard deviation belongs, and the student types the formula. A shared screen does that better than two people angling one laptop between them, and it means a family in Fujairah draws on the same Higher Level Biology specialist as a family in Jumeirah, at the same rate, without anyone paying for a drive.

There is a line worth stating before any price. A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback against the published criteria. The report is authored by the student, every sentence of it. Providers in this market sell finished investigations outright; the IB treats that as malpractice, and the consequence lands on the candidate rather than the seller. Every hour costed below is teaching time. None of it is text, editing to completion, or a document that arrives ready to upload.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An investigation does not appear from nowhere in Year 12. The habits that earn Criterion A and Criterion D marks are built in the Middle Years Programme, and the same experimental writing feeds an Extended Essay in Biology. Here is where each programme sits, and what each one costs a UAE family in time.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Biology

Standard Level runs to 150 taught hours and Higher Level to 240, built around four themes studied at four levels of organisation: molecules, cells, organisms and ecosystems. Assessment is Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the internal investigation at 20%. Paper 1 splits into multiple-choice questions and a data-based section, which is why data-handling practice earned during the IA pays twice. The scientific investigation is a single independent piece, 24 marks, reported inside 3,000 words.

Most UAE schools set an internal IA deadline weeks ahead of the IB's own upload window, so the real date a family works to is the school's, not the IB's. Dubai schools answer to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain schools to ADEK, Sharjah schools to SPEA; the inspection body does not set the IA calendar, the subject teacher does. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal deadline in writing before buying any hours.

Middle Years Programme Sciences

MYP Sciences is assessed against four criteria of its own: Knowing and understanding, Inquiring and designing, Processing and evaluating, and Reflecting on the impacts of science. Criteria B and C are the direct ancestors of Diploma Criterion A and Criterion B. A student who has written a controlled method and processed data with uncertainties in MYP 5 arrives in Year 12 needing teaching, not rescue. One term of MYP science-skills work is the cheapest IA insurance a family can buy.

UAE schools that run MYP alongside a national curriculum stream often compress the sciences into fewer lab hours, and the gap shows later in Criterion B. Families moving from a CBSE or American stream into MYP 4 or 5 commonly arrive without having recorded an instrument uncertainty in their lives. That is a teachable gap, and it costs two or three hours in Year 10 against eight or nine in Year 13.

EEAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Extended Essay in Biology

A 4,000-word independent research essay, supervised in school, with its own criteria and a reflection process recorded with the supervisor. A Biology Extended Essay that involves primary data runs into exactly the same statistics and uncertainty questions as the investigation, usually at larger scale and with a longer write-up. Students who have already fought through error bars and a significance test for their IA find the essay's data chapter far less expensive in hours than classmates starting cold.

Fieldwork options in the UAE are genuinely good and genuinely underused: mangrove transects at Jubail and Al Zorah, intertidal quadrats along the Khor Fakkan coast, soil salinity gradients on the fringes of Al Ain's farms. Supervisors rarely have time to scope those, and a tutor can help a student assess feasibility, permissions and seasonal timing before a question is committed to.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study and its own core, including a reflective project. Where Biology is one of the chosen Diploma courses, the student sits the same papers and completes the same 24-mark investigation as a full Diploma candidate. The reflective project is separate work with separate criteria, and the two are often confused in the same household, which wastes hours.

A handful of UAE schools offer the Career-related Programme alongside the Diploma, usually with health-science or business pathways. Parents comparing quotes should check which piece of work a tutor is being asked to support, because an hour of reflective-project coaching and an hour of Biology investigation coaching are not interchangeable even though both get called coursework at home.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Biology rarely arrives alone. The subjects below are the ones UAE families book alongside an investigation, either because the same statistics appear in them or because a second science is sitting on the same deadline week.

Biology

Higher Level

240 taught hours, with extension content inside the same four themes rather than bolted on at the end. Paper 2 runs two and a half hours and rewards extended explanation. HL students write the same 24-mark investigation as SL students on the same 3,000-word ceiling, which surprises families who expect a longer piece for the heavier course.

Biology

Standard Level

150 taught hours, the same four themes at shallower depth, and an identical internal assessment. SL candidates are the ones most often caught by Criterion B, because fewer lab hours means fewer chances to practise recording uncertainties before the investigation that counts.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The science most often paired with Biology in a UAE Diploma timetable, and the one whose investigation deadline usually collides with it. Chemistry IA work leans harder on uncertainty propagation, so a student doing both can learn error analysis once and spend it twice.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

An interdisciplinary course sitting across Groups 3 and 4, with fieldwork-heavy investigation options that suit UAE coastal and desert sites. Students here need sampling design and descriptive statistics more than they need laboratory technique, and the teaching hours split differently as a result.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Human-participant investigations dominate, which puts informed consent and the IB's ethical guidelines at the centre of Criterion A rather than at the margins. A student measuring recovery heart rate on classmates needs the ethics paragraph written properly or marks go before any data is collected.

Psychology

HL and SL

The Psychology internal assessment is an experimental study with its own criteria and a required inferential test, so families who have already met a t-test through Biology find the statistical section far quicker. The write-up conventions differ, and mixing them up costs marks in both subjects.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The course that formally teaches the chi-squared test, correlation and regression that Biology Criterion B quietly expects. Students taking Biology with Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches instead often meet these tools for the first time inside their own investigation, under deadline.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route most UAE engineering and medicine applicants are pushed towards, and the one that spends least time on applied statistics. An AA student writing a Biology investigation usually needs an hour on what a p value means before an hour on how to compute one.

MYP Sciences

MYP 4 and 5

Where controlled methods, variable tables and data processing are first assessed. Two terms of deliberate Criterion B and C practice here is the lowest-cost intervention available to a UAE family thinking three years ahead rather than three weeks.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core

TOK sits beside the investigation in the same months and competes for the same evenings. It is worth knowing which deadline is immovable before hours are bought: the TOK essay and exhibition run on the school's own schedule, and families frequently buy Biology hours in a week that TOK had already claimed.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy investigation hours, with different totals. The right one depends on how far the work has got and how many weeks remain, not on how much help a student is thought to need in general.

Weekly one-to-one through the investigation

A standing session from the question-setting stage to the final upload, usually sixty or ninety minutes a week across eight to twelve weeks. The tutor sees the work accumulate, which means Criterion D can be written from a real record of what went wrong at the bench rather than reconstructed from memory at the end. This is the lowest-stress and highest total-hours option.

  • Eight to twelve sessions, scheduled at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot
  • Criterion A signed off before data collection starts, not after
  • A running log of method changes that Criterion D can draw on
  • Pauses available for mock weeks and Eid breaks without losing the slot

A block of criterion hours

Four to six hours bought against one named criterion, most often Data analysis. The student brings raw data and a half-processed spreadsheet; the sessions cover the right statistical test, uncertainty treatment, graphing conventions and what the processed table has to show. This is the option that fits a family who has diagnosed the problem and does not want to pay for the parts already working.

  • Scoped to one or two criteria, with the hour count agreed in advance
  • Statistics taught on the student's own data, never on a worked example
  • Written criterion-referenced notes after each session
  • Unused hours are not spent for the sake of spending them

A single pre-submission review

One or two hours on a complete draft, two to three weeks before the school deadline. The tutor reads against all four criteria and returns a prioritised list of what the student can still change, ranked by marks at stake against hours required. No text is supplied and nothing is rewritten; the student acts on the list alone and resubmits to their own teacher.

  • Needs a genuinely complete draft, inside the word ceiling
  • Feedback ordered by marks recoverable per hour of student work
  • Explicitly excludes any editing of the student's sentences
  • Suitable only while the school's own feedback round is still open

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What the UAE market charges for Biology investigation support

A qualified subject tutor working online in the UAE is quoted between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, and a genuine IB specialist between AED 200 and AED 450 or above. Those are the published bands, not an estimate. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this search publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in.

The bands matter less than the structure behind them. A generalist at AED 150 can teach Biology content competently and still not know that Criterion B will not award marks for a mean without a measure of spread. A specialist at AED 300 who has marked against the current criteria will diagnose that in ten minutes. The cheaper hour is only cheaper if it moves a mark, and on investigation work it frequently does not.

Travel is the other hidden multiplier. In-home one-to-one across the UAE is quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour, and the upper half of that range is paying for a car on Sheikh Zayed Road at six in the evening. Online delivery removes that line item entirely, which is why the same specialist hour costs a family in Ras Al Khaimah what it costs a family in Jumeirah.

Treat every figure below as the market's number with a date attached. IB Gram's own position is a free first lesson and a conversation about hours, not a published rate card, because the hour count on an investigation depends entirely on what already exists on the student's screen.

The four criteria and where the 24 marks actually sit

Nobody else in this search names a single criterion. That is the strangest gap in the whole cluster, because the criteria are published, they are four, and they are worth six marks each. A parent who knows which criterion is weak can buy three hours instead of twelve.

Criterion A, Research design, is where investigations are lost before any data exists. The question has to be narrow enough that the data collected can answer it, the independent and dependent variables have to be named and measurable, and the method has to be repeatable by a stranger. Ethics and safety belong here too, and on human-participant work they are not optional paragraphs.

Criterion B, Data analysis, is where UAE students lose the most marks in practice. Raw data needs units and instrument uncertainties as recorded at the bench, processing has to be shown rather than asserted, an appropriate statistical test has to be chosen and justified, and graphs need error bars. A table of means with no spread is the single commonest form of this failure, and it is cheap to fix if the raw data survives.

Criteria C and D, Conclusion and Evaluation, are the ones students rush in the final week. A conclusion has to answer the stated question using the processed data and set the result against accepted biology, with a citation. An evaluation has to rank sources of error by how much they actually mattered and propose extensions a person could run, which is a different task from listing human error and asking for more repeats.

Where Biology investigation marks are lost in UAE classrooms

  • A question narrower than the dataset is cheap to fix; a dataset narrower than the question is not
  • Raw readings kept at the bench are worth more later than a tidy average recorded in the moment
  • Error bars are the single most visible signal that Criterion B has been taken seriously
  • An unranked evaluation reads as a confession; a ranked one reads as analysis
  • A citation in the conclusion costs ten minutes and separates a 4 from a 6 on Criterion C

Three patterns account for most of the lost marks in the investigations UAE students bring to a first session, and all three are diagnosable in a fifteen-minute read. Knowing which one applies is what turns an open-ended tutoring spend into a quotable number of hours.

The first is a question that cannot be answered by the data. A student measures the effect of temperature on catalase activity at three temperatures, one trial each, and then asks whether temperature affects enzyme rate. The data cannot carry the claim, and Criterion A and Criterion C both suffer. This is a Criterion A failure that only becomes visible at the conclusion stage, which is the expensive way to find it.

The second is processing that stops at a mean. Five levels of the independent variable, three repeats each, a tidy table of averages, and nothing about spread. No standard deviation, no error bars, no test. Criterion B is six marks and this costs three or four of them. It is also the cheapest repair on the list, provided the raw readings were written down rather than averaged on the spot, which is why the first question in any session is whether the raw data still exists.

The third is an evaluation written as an apology. Students in a hurry list every imperfection they can remember, weight them all equally, and propose more repeats. What the criterion rewards is a ranked account: which error plausibly moved the result and in which direction, which did not matter, and what a better-designed follow-up would change. That reordering is a one-hour conversation and it is worth more than another week of reading.

04

What you pay for at each stage, counted back from the school deadline

Hours are not evenly spread across an investigation. Two stages absorb most of them, and neither is the stage families worry about first. Setting the question and processing the data together account for roughly two-thirds of the one-to-one time a typical investigation needs.

The table below is built on a mid-band market rate of AED 250 an hour, taken from the published ranges above rather than from an IB Gram price list. Use it to sanity-check any quote, including ours: a provider proposing twenty hours for an investigation that has already collected clean data is selling a package rather than diagnosing a problem.

The costs assume the raw data survives and the school's feedback round is still open. Both of those collapse the budget when they fail. A student who averaged at the bench and discarded the readings has to collect again, which may not be possible once the lab timetable has moved on. A student whose teacher has already given the one permitted round of written feedback cannot submit a revised draft for another round, however many hours are bought.

The right question for a parent is not what the hourly rate is. It is which row of this table the work is sitting in, and whether the stage before it was completed properly. Hours bought into a broken Criterion A are the most expensive hours in Diploma tutoring, because the analysis they fund answers a question the data was never able to address. Ask any provider to name the stage first and the price second, and compare the two answers against the rows below before committing to a number of weeks.

The statistics hours nobody budgets for

Ask a UAE parent what Biology investigation support is for and they will say the write-up. Ask a Biology teacher and they will say the statistics. Criterion B is six of 24 marks and it is the criterion most often answered with a test chosen because a classmate used it.

Choosing the test is the teachable part. The data's shape decides it: two groups of continuous measurements point one way, counts in categories point another, and a continuous independent variable with several levels points to correlation and regression. A student who can say why a chi-squared test does not apply to their enzyme rates has already earned Criterion B marks that a student who ran one anyway has lost.

Interpreting the output is where the second hour goes. A p value is not a verdict and r squared is not a percentage of correctness. The criterion wants a statement of what the test shows about the stated question, at a named significance level, with the limits of the inference acknowledged. That is a short paragraph and it takes most students two attempts.

None of this needs software a UAE family has to buy. A spreadsheet handles standard deviation, a t-test, chi-squared and a regression line, and it handles error bars. A session spent inside the student's own spreadsheet, with the tutor's cursor on the cell and the student typing, is worth three spent on a worked example about somebody else's bean plants.

Online investigation help versus an in-home Biology tutor in the UAE

Plenty of UAE families start by looking for someone to sit at the kitchen table, and the search phrase reflects that. It is a fair question and it deserves a straight answer rather than a dismissal: a visiting tutor is quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour in this market, the upper half of that covers the journey, and the pool a family can reach is whoever happens to live within a twenty-to-thirty-minute drive.

IB Gram delivers to UAE families as one-to-one online tuition over live video. That is the whole of the offer, stated here and on every country page on this site, and it is not a fallback. For investigation work specifically it is the better format, because the object being worked on is a spreadsheet and a document rather than a page of practice questions.

The comparison below is about this task, not tutoring in general. Where an in-home arrangement genuinely wins, the table says so. Where it costs a family money for no mark, it says that too.

The scarcity argument is the one that decides it in most of the country. A Higher Level Biology specialist who has marked against the current criteria is not a common professional in Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain, and in Al Ain the pool is thin enough that a family may have no realistic local option at all. Online delivery means the shortlist is national rather than local, at one rate, with nobody billing for the drive and nobody declining a Tuesday slot because of the distance involved.

Academic honesty: the part of this the money cannot buy

  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives criterion-referenced feedback; authorship stays with the student
  • Proofreading that changes a student's sentences is editing, and it is not permitted on assessed work
  • The school's own feedback round is limited to one formal written pass on a draft
  • Published syllabus material and mark schemes are cited and linked, never reproduced or supplied
  • A provider unwilling to describe what it returns, in writing, is the answer to the question

One provider ranking in this search sells completed investigations at AED 3,750. That is not a competing service with a different price; it is a different transaction, and the risk sits entirely with the student. The IB's academic-honesty procedures treat submitted work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the candidate is the one who faces the consequence. No refund policy reaches that outcome.

What a tutor may do is substantial and worth paying for. A tutor may teach the biology, explain a criterion in the examiner's own wording, ask why a method controls a variable, show how a statistical test works on the student's own numbers, point at a paragraph and say that it describes rather than explains, and hand back a prioritised list of what is weak. All of that is teaching, and all of it moves marks.

What a tutor may not do is supply any of the report. Not a sentence, not a reworded paragraph, not a conclusion the student copies in their own words afterwards. The student's teacher also operates under a limit here: IB regulations allow one round of formal written feedback on a draft, which is why the pre-submission timing in the stage table matters so much. A family paying for a second opinion after that round has closed is paying for information nobody can now act on through the school.

Ask any provider in this market a direct question before paying: what exactly will be returned to my child, and in whose words will it be? A provider who will not answer that in writing has told you the answer.

08

The investigation inside the whole Biology grade

Twenty per cent is an awkward share. Large enough that four lost marks move a grade, small enough that families postpone it in favour of papers. Seeing the components side by side usually settles the argument about where the next ten hours should go.

Paper 1 carries 36% and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. The data-based section is the one to notice here: it tests exactly the skills Criterion B rewards. A student who has learnt to read error bars, spot an unsupported trend claim and interpret a significance statement for their own investigation has been revising Paper 1B at the same time, which is the strongest argument for doing investigation work properly rather than quickly.

Paper 2 carries 44% and rewards extended explanation, with Higher Level candidates sitting two and a half hours against Standard Level's hour and a half. Command terms decide marks here more than content does. Students who answer outline with an explanation and explain with an outline lose marks they have the knowledge to earn, and the same instinct shows up in a conclusion written as a description.

Check the current component weightings and durations against your child's subject guide or Diploma coordinator before building a revision plan on them, and treat any IB exam or results date you read online as unconfirmed until the coordinator or ibo.org states it. The practical consequence of the table below is simple arithmetic: four marks recovered on the investigation shift the final grade by more than four marks recovered on Paper 2, because the investigation is marked out of 24 while the papers are marked out of far more. That is the number to hold on to when deciding where the next block of hours goes.

The date that governs an investigation is the school's internal deadline, not the IB's submission window. UAE Diploma coordinators typically set theirs weeks earlier so marking and moderation can be completed in order, and families who plan around a date found online are routinely a month out.

Get the internal deadline in writing from the coordinator before buying any hours. Then count backwards through the milestones below. Most of them are set by people inside the school, which is also why most of them can be negotiated earlier but almost never later.

No IB exam or results date appears on this page deliberately. The IB publishes those, secondary sites paraphrase them inaccurately, and a wrong date in a revision plan is worse than no date. For Cambridge the structure is at least clearer and worth noting by contrast. In the UAE, Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and nothing else: the February window that turns up in search results is offered to India only, and the Checkpoint tests in March, May and October are Primary and Lower Secondary, not IGCSE. Entries for the June series close in the spring, a term or so before the first paper, and the exact date is set per series and reaches families through the centre rather than through a website. The gap between paperwork and papers is the point, not the particular day. Internal IB deadlines work the same way, for the same administrative reasons, and your coordinator is the only source that is current for them.

Ramadan shifts roughly eleven days earlier each year and currently falls inside the Diploma teaching year, with shortened school days and evenings reorganised around Iftar. Sessions move to post-Iftar slots for the month without a rescheduling charge; what families should not do is assume the fortnight after Eid can absorb work that was due before it. Count the weeks backwards with the fasting month and the Eid break struck out, and the picture that emerges is usually three or four fewer usable weeks than the calendar suggests. Data collection, which depends on a school laboratory being open and staffed, is the stage that suffers most from that arithmetic.

What the regulators control about what you pay, and what they do not

School fees and tutoring fees sit in different regulatory worlds, and UAE parents are often surprised by which one is governed. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Nothing equivalent applies to private tutoring. The hourly figure a tutor quotes is not set, capped or reviewed by any authority in the country.

What is regulated is who may teach. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applied for through MoHRE and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the ministry has not published a fine schedule, so any specific figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. Because the permit itself costs nothing, no tutor can reasonably price it into an hourly rate.

Abu Dhabi adds a condition families meet in person. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. When a child's own Biology teacher offers evening lessons, that is the rule in play, and the offer is worth declining for the student's sake rather than the teacher's.

Beyond fee approval, the emirate regulators shape the calendar a family is paying into. SPEA in Sharjah and the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods; KHDA oversees quality in Dubai; ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. None of them sets an internal assessment deadline. That remains the subject teacher's call, which is why the first question in this process is a question for the school.

MoE equivalency, UAE universities, and what the investigation mark is worth later

Families weighing the cost of investigation support often ask whether the mark follows the student anywhere beyond the grade. It does, in two ways, and neither is the one parents expect.

The first is the subject grade itself, which is what universities read. Ministry of Education equivalency for a UAE secondary certificate is curriculum-specific, and the published rules are clearer for some tracks than others. For the British track, students must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count of five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. For the American track, English proficiency is demonstrated by IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Math. One competing page in this market publishes a six-subject requirement for IGCSE candidates, which is wrong, and inheriting a wrong number from a ranking page is how families make plans that fail.

For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold is published here. The equivalency article that sources the British and American requirements does not state one, and an unsourced figure on a page like this would be worse than silence. Verify the IB position on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority directly. Equivalency is a process the family and the school complete with the Ministry; it is not something a tutoring platform performs, arranges or guarantees, and no amount of tutoring is required for it.

The second way the investigation mark travels is less obvious. Degree programmes in the Gulf and beyond that interview for laboratory science ask applicants to talk about an independent investigation, and a student who designed their own question, chose their own statistical test and can explain what the error bars showed has something concrete to say. That is a return on the same hours, and it is the part no mark scheme records.

Where we tutor

Biology IA support across the seven emirates

Delivery is online, so the tutor pool does not shrink as you move away from Dubai. What does change is the school calendar, the number of IB World Schools nearby, and how far a family has had to travel for help until now. Here is the position emirate by emirate.

Dubai

The deepest Diploma market in the country, regulated by KHDA, with the largest number of IB World Schools and therefore the largest number of competing internal IA deadlines in the same fortnight. Rate quotes here are the ones competitors publish, and they are the highest in the UAE.

Abu Dhabi

Regulated by ADEK, whose professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. Families offered evening lessons by a child's own Biology teacher should know that position before accepting, and it is a common offer in the capital.

Sharjah

Regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods rather than only inspecting. Fewer Diploma schools means fewer Higher Level Biology specialists within driving distance, which is precisely where online delivery changes the maths for a family.

Al Ain

Under ADEK alongside Abu Dhabi city, with a smaller Diploma cohort and a genuine shortage of science specialists willing to drive out. Fieldwork options around the farms and the Jebel Hafeet slopes are unusually good for an ecology investigation and almost nobody uses them.

Ajman

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level regulator. A handful of IB World Schools serve the emirate, and families here have historically driven into Sharjah or Dubai for subject-specialist help, paying for the journey in both directions.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education is regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge. The Diploma cohort is small enough that a Higher Level Biology student may be one of a dozen in the emirate, which makes a local in-home specialist close to unobtainable and an online one ordinary.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, with the longest distances to a Diploma science specialist of anywhere in the country. The Khor Fakkan and Dibba coastline is also the best intertidal fieldwork in the UAE for an ecology investigation.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school market in the UAE, also supervised by the Ministry of Education. Al Sinniyah Island and the Khor Al Beidah mudflats sit on the doorstep and offer sampling-design investigations that no examiner has read a hundred times.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7% of private enrolment. Seven new schools open for 2026-27, three of them IB, adding 16,846 places. More IB seats means more investigations due in the same weeks.

  • Greenfield International School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and the Diploma cohort is concentrated on the island and in Khalifa City. Al Ain's smaller cohort is the clearest case for online delivery anywhere in the country, because a Higher Level Biology specialist within driving distance may simply not exist.

Sharjah and the northern emirates

SPEA regulates Sharjah's private schools and approves their fees and curricula; Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge, while Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit under the federal Ministry of Education. Diploma provision thins quickly moving north, and so does specialist availability on the ground.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the question, the criterion and the deadline

Three things get a useful answer: the investigation question as currently written, which criterion the teacher has flagged, and the school's internal deadline. A draft or a spreadsheet helps more than a description of one. Within that message a realistic hour count can be given rather than a package.

  2. 02

A free first lesson on the actual work

One 45-minute lesson at no charge, one per student, with no card details taken and nothing to cancel afterwards. It runs on the student's own investigation, not a sample task, because the only useful diagnosis is of the document that will be submitted. You will hear which criterion is weakest and roughly what fixing it costs.

  3. 03

Agree the hours against named criteria

Hours are scoped to criteria, in writing, before anything is booked. Four hours on Data analysis is a different commitment from twelve weeks of general Biology support, and conflating the two is how tutoring budgets in this market quietly double. If the work needed is two hours, the quote is two hours.

  4. 04

Work the criteria in order, on the student's screen

Sessions run with the student's own spreadsheet and document open and the student at the keyboard. Each one ends with written criterion-referenced notes. Nothing is typed into the report by anyone but the student, and the feedback trail is kept because Criterion D is written from it weeks later.

  5. 05

Hand back and step away before submission

Support stops while the school's own feedback round is still open, so the student has time to act on it independently and their teacher sees work the student can account for. If no Higher Level specialist is free at your Gulf Standard Time slot, you will be told that rather than offered a generalist at the same rate.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate bands are on the page, with their sources

Three of the six best-ranking pages in this search publish no price. This one publishes the market's bands in AED, names the provider and the date each figure came from, and separates them from what IB Gram does. You can check every number against the source before you talk to anyone.

Hours are quoted against criteria, not sold as packages

A quote tied to Criterion B is auditable: either the processing and the statistics are right at the end of it or they are not. A twelve-week package is not. Scoping to named criteria is also what keeps a four-hour job from becoming a two-term commitment.

Statistics taught on the student's own numbers

Choosing between a t-test, chi-squared and a regression is the teachable part of Criterion B, and it is taught inside the student's own spreadsheet with the student typing. A worked example about someone else's data teaches a procedure; the student's own data teaches a judgement.

A specialist, not the nearest available tutor

Online delivery means a family in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah or Al Ain chooses from Biology specialists nationally rather than from whoever lives within a half-hour drive. The rate is the same in every emirate because no part of it is paying for a journey.

An honesty line that does not move

A tutor teaches, questions and gives criterion-referenced feedback. Authorship of the report stays with the student, and that is stated to the family before any hour is booked. It is also the difference between this page and the providers in the same search selling finished investigations outright.

Availability stated plainly, including when it is nil

If no Higher Level Biology specialist is free in your time slot, you hear that instead of being matched with a generalist at a specialist rate. Nobody else in this search discloses a coverage limit, and families find out about it after paying rather than before.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

How much does IB Biology IA help cost in the UAE?+

Market rates for IB science support in the UAE run from about AED 150 an hour for a qualified generalist online to AED 200-450 for a subject specialist, with premium named tutors quoted from AED 500. Those bands come from UAE providers' own rate pages and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table, dated October 2026. The total depends far more on hour count than on rate. A broken Criterion B with the raw data intact is typically three or four hours; an investigation whose question cannot be answered by the data collected costs considerably more, because earlier stages have to be redone.

How many one-to-one hours does a Biology investigation actually need?+

Eight to twelve hours spread across the whole investigation is typical when support starts at the question-setting stage, and four to six when it is scoped to a single weak criterion. The distribution is uneven: narrowing the question and processing the data absorb around two-thirds of the time, while the conclusion and evaluation are usually one or two hours each. A provider quoting twenty hours for an investigation that already has clean collected data is selling a package rather than diagnosing a problem. Ask which criteria the hours are attached to before agreeing to any number.

Which of the four Biology IA criteria is worth paying for first?+

Criterion B, Data analysis, in most cases. It carries six of the 24 marks and it is where UAE students lose the most in practice, usually by presenting means with no measure of spread, no error bars and no statistical test. It is also the cheapest criterion to repair, provided the raw readings were recorded rather than averaged at the bench. Criterion A is more important but less fixable late: if the question cannot be answered by the data collected, no amount of analysis rescues it, which is why a single hour before data collection is worth several afterwards.

My daughter's data is collected but her graphs have no error bars. Is that an expensive fix?+

No, provided the raw readings still exist rather than only the averages. Standard deviation and error bars take about thirty minutes to teach in a spreadsheet, and the student does the work. The longer part is deciding whether a statistical test is also needed and which one fits, which is another hour or two. At a mid-band market rate of AED 250 an hour, that is a two-to-three-hour job. If the repeats were averaged on the spot and the individual readings discarded, the spread cannot be recovered and the lab timetable may not allow recollection.

Is a t-test or a chi-squared test right for enzyme rate results?+

Enzyme rates are continuous measurements, so a chi-squared test does not apply; chi-squared handles counts falling into categories. If two conditions are being compared, an unpaired t-test fits. If the independent variable was measured at five or more levels, a correlation coefficient with regression and r squared says more about the relationship. A student who can explain why chi-squared was ruled out has already earned Criterion B credit that a student who ran one anyway has lost. Choosing and justifying the test is the teachable hour; computing it in a spreadsheet takes minutes.

A tutor offered to tidy up the wording of my son's report. Where is the line?+

Changing a student's sentences is editing, and on assessed work it is not permitted. A tutor may point at a paragraph and say it describes where it should explain, ask what mechanism the student thinks is operating, or note that the conclusion does not answer the stated question. The student then rewrites it themselves. The practical test is whose words end up in the submitted report. If any of them are not the student's, the work is no longer the student's, and under IB academic-honesty procedures the consequence falls on the candidate rather than the provider.

Does the 3,000-word ceiling include data tables and the bibliography?+

The limit applies to the body of the report rather than to tables of raw and processed data, graph labels, or the reference list, but the detail matters and the current subject guide is the authority. Ask the Diploma coordinator to confirm what the school counts, in writing, because interpretations vary between teachers and the consequence of a late discovery is severe. Students who overrun almost always solve it by cutting the evaluation, which hands away Criterion D marks. Planning the word budget across the four criteria before drafting is a half-hour conversation that protects two or three marks.

The school already gives feedback. Why pay for more?+

Because the school's feedback is limited to one formal written round on a draft under IB regulations, it arrives on a timetable set for thirty students at once, and it is not always specific enough for a student to act on alone. Paid support is useful before that round, so the draft the teacher sees is the student's best work rather than their first attempt. It is far less useful afterwards, when no revised draft can be resubmitted through the school. Timing decides the value here more than quality does.

Three weeks to the deadline and nothing is processed. What can money still fix?+

Quite a lot, in a specific order. Processing and statistics first, because Criterion B is six marks and is achievable in three or four hours if the raw data exists. Then the conclusion, which needs to answer the stated question using the processed data with one citation to published biology. Then the evaluation, ranked rather than listed. What cannot be fixed in three weeks is a question the data cannot answer or a collection window that has closed. Establish which of those applies before booking anything, because it changes the whole plan.

Why is this quoted per hour instead of as a fixed package?+

Because the work needed varies by a factor of four depending on what already exists. A student with clean data and a weak evaluation needs two hours. A student whose question cannot be answered by the data collected needs the method stage again. A fixed package prices the average, which means families with small problems subsidise families with large ones. Hours scoped to named criteria are also auditable: at the end of four hours on Criterion B, either the processing and the statistics are right or they are not, and that is a conversation a parent can have.

Does the mark my child's Biology teacher awards stay as it is?+

Not necessarily. The teacher marks against the four criteria and the IB moderates a sample of the school's marks, which can move a cohort's marks down as well as up. That is one reason a report should be written so a stranger could follow it: the moderator has never met your child, never saw the laboratory, and reads only what is on the page. Methods described as repeatable by someone else, and raw data presented with its units and uncertainties, survive moderation better than work that relies on the teacher's memory of the project.

Can lessons move to after Iftar during Ramadan without a rescheduling fee?+

Yes. Sessions shift to post-Iftar slots for the month at no extra charge, and the regular slot is held. School days shorten during Ramadan across the UAE, which changes when a student is actually able to concentrate rather than merely available. The planning point is different: Ramadan and Eid together remove usable teaching weeks from the calendar, so an investigation deadline that falls shortly afterwards needs its data collection finished before the month starts, not during it. Count the weeks backwards with the fasting period removed.

We live in Ras Al Khaimah rather than Dubai. Does that change the price or the tutor?+

Neither, which is the main practical argument for online delivery. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, so the rate carries no travel component and the shortlist of Biology specialists is national rather than whoever lives within a half-hour drive. Ras Al Khaimah's private schools are regulated by the emirate's own Department of Knowledge, and the Diploma cohort is small enough that a Higher Level Biology student may be one of very few in the emirate. Locally, a subject specialist for that student is close to unobtainable; online, they are ordinary.

Does a private tutor in the UAE need a permit, and is that cost passed to us?+

A permit is required and it costs nothing, so there is nothing to pass on. Private tutoring runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, applied for through MoHRE and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The ministry has not published a fine schedule, so treat any specific amount you read online as unverified.

Will a strong investigation mark help with UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Equivalency is assessed on certificates and grades rather than on individual coursework components, so the investigation helps only through the subject grade it contributes to. The published British-track rule requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels. No International Baccalaureate points threshold is published on this page because the sourced article does not state one; verify that on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority. Equivalency is completed by the family and the school, not by a tutoring platform.

What happens to our booking if no Biology HL specialist is free in our slot?+

You are told, before any payment, rather than matched with a generalist at a specialist rate. Higher Level Biology investigation work in a specific Gulf Standard Time window is a narrow requirement, and in peak deadline weeks it occasionally cannot be filled immediately. The options are a different time slot, a short wait, or a referral elsewhere. No competitor page researched for this market discloses a coverage limit at all, which is why families usually discover one after paying a deposit rather than during the first conversation.

Start with the criterion, not the hourly rate

Send the investigation question as it currently reads, the criterion the teacher has flagged, and the school's internal deadline. The first 45-minute lesson is free, one per student, with no card details taken, and it runs on your child's own work rather than a sample task. At the end of it you will know which of the four criteria is costing marks, roughly how many hours fixing it takes, and what that comes to against the published UAE market bands on this page. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, anywhere in the seven emirates. Every sentence of the report stays your child's own.
